A while back, during book 3, I came up with a theory, but since it was still pretty early into the Freshman/Sophomore series, it just looked like a coincidence I think not, but now that we’ve got 5 books, I’m starting to notice a pattern, and I can’t be the only one.
On the cover of book 1, we have Chris and MC. On the cover of book 2, we have MC by herself. On the cover of book 3, we have Kaitlyn and MC. Book 4 doesn’t matter right now cuz it was just an interlude. On the cover of book 5, we have Zig and MC.
I don’t think anyone has forgotten the cringeworthy “dispute” between Chris, Becca and our MC. Putting everything aside, we all know Chris is the one MC had the most trouble with in book 1.
Initially, I thought James was on the cover of book 2, why? idk, may have had something to do with that Christmas special. And since I thought it was James on the cover of book 2, I also thought James was the one MC had the most trouble with. My MC was dating James so therefor his storyline was more present and interesting to me lmao. But I still clearly remember MC getting blamed by Kaitlyn for outing herself. Tbh I don’t quite remember why Chris and MC were fighting but it happened.
I’m sure we can all still remember the fights with Kaitlyn and her band in book 3. Like I don’t even need to explain this one, do I?
Like I mentioned above, book 4 doesn’t really matter, as it was just an interlude.
Now, book 5, there Zig and MC. Every time a LI was featured on the cover, MC’s relationship/friendship was tested to the point of breaking and to the point of me hating them but I digress. Taking everything said above into consideration, I fear for whatever is coming for Zig and MC.
Hello friends !! I’ve been on tumglr.hell for a little over a year now and I just hit 200+ followers !!! I’ve met so many new friends and wonderful people during my time on this website, and I’d like to thank all of you for being so so kind and making me laugh and smile (and sometimes a little disturbed) even though hard times :’)
Listed below are some of my beloved mutuals, friends, and favorite blogs. I can’t put into words how much I love all of you, some of you I’ve know for a long time and others I haven’t interacted with that much but I still love you lots and would not hesitate to take a bullet for you if the opportunity arose 👀👀
Wait what's this about cassandra clare being a plagarist? I only half-read one of her books and it was pretty terrible...
I got a lot of asks about this and I really don’t want to go into it too much cause boy howdy do I not want to bring the wrath of her or her friends anywhere near me. I didn’t survive the fandom wars to go out like this.
I’ll preface this by saying: no one behaved well. There were hackings and threats and fans taking “justice” into their own hands (doxxing), and someone even got thrown out of college because of it and any of us with any sense took several prudent steps back and hid from the fallout that ensued.
CC was a prolific fanfic author for the Harry Potter fandom, she wrote a lot and had a devoted following of fans and while it might seem redundant to accuse a fanfic writer of plagiarism, CC was known for lifting direct lines from other media. Some argue this was part of a “game” like “spot the fandom” sort of thing, but at the time in the 2000s when fanfic sites existed at the mercy of IP holders and without the protection Ao3 affords us, and fanficers were being actively pursued and sued by writers for creating fanfic of their work, these direct “quotes” (and they were not just “quotes”, there were entire paragraphs and pages of her work which if you ran them through plagiarism software it’d spit out entire screeds of other works) was particularly dangerous for fandom and I feel in part goes toward explaining some of the acerbic vitriol aimed towards her—rather than the simple spiteful jealousy her fans like to cite.
There were also some claims that she stole from other fanfic writers, though I can’t find any sources. In fact you will find it remarkably hard to find any “reliable” sources. That’ll happen when you have lawyers and a PR teams to scrub you as clean as they can in order to sell original books.
And while Mortal Instruments seems to be her own work, (debatable given it’s sort of her fanfic work rehashed, so idk how to make head nor tails of that mess) in 2016 the author Sherrilyn Kenyon attempted to sue over her Shadowhunter series for plagiarism, and while certain things were never proved…eh…I haven’t wanted anything to do with her or her fandom since the early 2000s. And that’s all I’m going to say.
Am I the only one who thinks that Clary is the least interesting female main character on the show? I just find Izzy and Maia sooo much more intriguing, even Lydia. I think that's why I ship jaia and jimon because I just find Clary bland/boring/not faceted enough to really ship her with anyone.
Nah. Judging by the answers on my Jaia posts, you’re very likely not the only one to think that. But funny enough, all those posts shitting on Clary make me want to defend her. Dammit, Law School.
Anyway, I agree when you say the other female characters are more intriguing than Clary. I feel the same way. Izzy, Maia, Lydia, I relate to them way more than I do Clary. The problem I see with her is that Clary is the kind of character that didn’t age well.
The Chosen One is a trope that was at its highest in 2007, especially for YA. Ten years later, we don’t want a miraculous savior that gets swooped into the eyes of the hurricane and magically is given the solution to saving the universe. We want a daughter trying her best to fulfill her mother’s expectations while being unapologetically herself. We want a hard working badass with a heart of gold. We want a hard ass soldier with a tragic backstory who is capable of changing.
We want a character that has to go through an inner transformation and earn her improvement.
My problem with Clary is how the story bent over backward to make her oh so special. How Magnus and Ragnor remarked on her artistic skills, how Hodge kept saying Jocelyn was ah-mazing and Clary was just as much, how Clary twirled in high heels and killed a greater demon after four days in the Shadow World.
Those things were “cool” in 2007. Now, they are unnerving. The main character has to earn her due and preferably don’t take part in tropes such as the White Savior or The Only One.
However, I believe the show is starting to take on a solid route with her. Because you see, nonny, Clary shouldn’t be the one talking downworlder leaders into cooperating with each other (1x09), but she should be disgusted by Jace’s passiveness when the Clave is ordering him to racially profile the downworlders (2x13). Clary shouldn’t be able to make a huge jump and expertly stab a possessed Izzy (2x04), but she should be the one busting her ass off to slash Valentine’s throat open and then stab him four times (2x20).
Clary is an eighteen-year-old spoiled and immature teenager. When the story recognizes that and makes her deal with those flaws, she grows as a character. There is a lot of potential to tell an organic story from there. The writers just need to remember that Clary needs an inner journey (from immature to mature, for example) as well as an outer journey (‘rescuing her mother’ or ‘defeating her father’). Basic storytelling; give her a character flaw and make it have actual consequences when she gives in to her flaw. Make her work to get over it.
Now that her outer journeys are done, I’m excited to see where they will take her. At this point in the books, Clary is just… there in the story, reacting to what happens to Jace. I think the show can give her a storyline that doesn’t revolve solemnly around that.
And for fuck’s sake, give her angelic powers limitations and stick to those limitations. No one likes an overpowered character. At least, no one over the age of eleven.
Real talk: The ending to the Balance Arc is my favorite ending for anything up to this point. No joke. It left me feeling warm and fulfilled and satisfied in a way I thought no form of media could. There isn’t anything I would change. It truly was, to quote Griffin McElroy, the ending they deserved.
So I get so angry and frustrated with healthy (BOTH physically and mentally) people are lazy. I just can’t stand it because they’re wasting that perfectly good body to sit on their asses and do nothing. Or even have not healthy people do stuff for them.
It makes me so mad because I would kill to have a working body so I could do all the things I’m dying to do. I’d kill to be able to work out and go on adventures and travel the world…and just exist happily in no pain. I would kill for that. I think about it every day.
And then here are these certain people who could do all that and more. But they’re sitting on their asses doing nothing. Too lazy to even walk down the street for something or take the trash out or whatever. It kills me. I just want to scream at them.
I know this isn’t the nicest opinion but it’s something I feel. It’s something that makes me cry and rage. I just want a working body so badly and they’re wasting theirs.
((i had a few issues with it, but i don’t plan to talk about them, because i still loved the movie))
so, here’s an embarrassing story.
immediately after diana made her debut in batman v superman, i wrote a little kara/diana (supergirl/wonder woman) ficlet because i adore kara danvers (and melissa benoist) to death and i am literal trash who will use any available excuse to ship her with amazing, incredible women. i never posted it because i thought people would think it was stupid.
buttttttttt now that i’ve fallen even more deeply in love with gal as diana, i’m probably going to write even more?? i’m so so so sorry.
I will write you the most beautiful words,
because anything else would be absurd,
I want you to feel the beauty that I see,
and I want you and me, to be a we.
I’m going to take you on cute dates,
and I’ll show you off to all my mates,
because when I have your hand in mine,
I often wonder what could be more divine.
You could be with any girl you see,
but yet you chose me,
you could do so much better,
because I don’t even really matter,
but when I’m with you everything is okay,
and I would do anything you say,
because you see, I love you.
and I’m pretty sure you do too.
Me, at 2am, writing poetry that has no true meaning.
No, Coach won't be in the season finale. The tag line "New Beginnings" applies to every loft member: Schmece moving out, Jess' new job and more.. Yes, the break up was shot, MF is done. Yes, Jess is a factor. How? I can't tell you. But Ness fans will love the upcoming episodes and Ness scenes.. Rumspringa is one of my favorite episodes of the season, and I'm a Ness fan.. No season finale spoilers! Liz created something amazing and I don't want to ruin anything. (SSA)
Guys, if you like a fic writers work- please let them know. Likes are great, wonderful even, but they don’t get a writers work out there and they don’t let us know how you feel about it. It doesn’t even have to be anything elaborate! Just a quick ‘this was good’ would suffice. It makes our day. And if you aren’t comfortable reblogging, replies are fine too! I love this fandom but I’ve never participated in a fandom where feedback for fic writers is so scarce. Just something to consider.
Okay so here’s a thing. I kinda hate tumblr. I really do. For an awful lot of reasons but this is going to be long enough so here are only a few of them:
1. Y’all are always preaching about how everyone should feel comfortable in their own skin no matter who they want to be and what they want to look like. Except you feel superior because your eyebrows or your hair or your winged eyeliner are on point. There are so many you vs me posts that put others down for the clothes they wear or the accuracy of their make up. Know what you are? Hypocrites.
2. I’m all for equaltiy and I think it is great that important matters such as racism and sexism etc are discussed and taken seriously on such a platform. However, it seems to me that unless you are a part of a minority group or underprivileged, you are not allowed an opinon. Like, I get that those who are affected most by those things have to speak up and need to be respected and listened to. But that doesn’t mean that someone who does not have to face these problems can’t have something important to say about it. Tumblr doesn’t value your opinion unless you are a poc or belong to the lgbtq+ community.
3. Can fandoms just get along? Why do people get hate for a bunch of tv shows they love? I mean it is pretty obvious which ones I’m talking about (*cough* superwholock *cough*). You cannot openly admit to be a fan of those three shows without getting hate for it. Which is stupid. Yeah, there are people in this fandom that are utter douchebags. But you will find douchebags in every single fandom. Don’t make assumptions on someone’s personality based on the tv shows they enjoy. It keeps people from enjoying their fandoms.
4.Problematic. I don’t know if it’s a meme or a trend that i missed or simply didn’t get but it pisses me off so much. There are so many posts that go something like ‘when your friend won’t realise their fav is problematic…’ Like I dunno, do you get that your fav is problematic? Do you get that you’re problematic? Cause we are all human beings and we are all problematic in one way or another. There’s no way any of us go through life without ever voicing an offensive opinion. And just because a celebrity once said something problematic doesn’t make them ‘human trash’, as many like to lable them.
(same goes for tv shows btw. I know some are very popular to hate and be called out but honeslty, pretty much everyshow lacks representation in some aspect but that doesn’t mean that the writers are ‘problematic’ or racist douchebags)
5. Tumblr made me a way angrier person. I get offended so easily because if there’s a funny situation or a joke or anything I would usually laugh about, thanks to this lovely website I can think of a hundred reasons why pretty much anything could be offensive or problematic, even if they are so freakin far fetched that noone would assume it is offensive at all.
I could probably go on forever. I mean, yeah, there are hilarious textposts and gifs and great fandoms on here. And I love that bit. But then there’s this other side that makes me want to visit tumblr less and less. Maybe that’s just me but it’s kind of taking the fun out of tumblr.
