i don't even know what is going on in that side of tumblr

anonymous asked:

Hi, 7goodangel. I am here to ask you about PaperJam as a shy, smol and innocent being (mainly thegreatrouge made him be). There has been some conflicts regarding his trait. Some said his canonical personality is a jerk, like what you wrote in his bio / info and some said that is severely wrong and being shy, (which made him shipped with Fresh), is his canonical personality. What are your thoughts about this? I mean, it is your character and people are taking control of it. Don't you disagree?

Well… I have talked to people and seen public conversations and this has happened several times to me over months. I guess I’ve gotten a little numb to it now… or maybe it’s due to school that I haven’t given it the attention that it deserves. Probably due to school.

I just can’t update constantly like others - even though some others in school were and are able to update constantly. I can’t keep going around and holding up my bio of PJ and police people. It’s exhausting to me… it really takes up the small bit of free time I have.

I think after I get a solid job that I’ll be able to go around better… but anyway - back to your question.

While I love seeing interpretations and do not want people to be limited by something and have their imaginations go forth… it’s proving that a huge con comes with that mentality - which you have pointed out. A lot of people swear that PJ is the cute, innocent interpretation that really, did get PJ popular in the first place. While I did have him as a jerk from the beginning - I kinda kept that info to my RP blog - so you could say it is my fault this is all happening and I do think that. I could of done something to make it not as bad as it is now…

It’s just like the NSFW stuff… people just assume the first thing and run with it. And it really does make me feel like I really am not needed for my own character at points.

It’s a struggle - I don’t want to have people stop interpreting PJ within AUs… but I also don’t want people to just see him as an innocent child to ship with Fresh.

And I’m still trying to find the best solution to it.

But… I feel like the damage is already done. It’s too late for me to talk to all of these people going around swearing on their life that PJ is canoncally like Rouge’s interpretation/AUs. It feels like an hopeless battle to me.

And I guess I needed someone to ask me this question so then I can fully say my thoughts on this.

So in short, while I love creativity and don’t want to snuff it out (considering some people would probably think I’m doing that already with saying “No Sin”), I still don’t like it. It irritates me, irks me, frustrates me, and I feel like even as the person who thought of PJ in the first place, my voice isn’t enough. Communities seem like they don’t care about artists unless they reach a ‘certain goal of popularity’ or seem like they have a more professional style of art. I know I do not reach either of those titles.

People misspell my username all the time - I actually claimed ‘7goodangle’ on tumblr for that reason.

People still say “I’m too lazy to find who made PJ” when they clearly mentioned they looked at the bio on the wiki.

People still go around arguing others on the canon ship of OmniPJ and swearing that FreshPaper is the true canon ship, when all people are pointing out is that they need to keep the canon ship in mind when going around with information.

Even just basic personality traits… and these things are happening on sites that I do not nor want an account for.

I still want others to have fun - to be happy; but I don’t know… I guess I’m cutting out my own happiness to get everyone else happy? I want to eventually write a version of PJ within his own universe and story… and he is more like the version I created within the UT verse. Not exact - but close. Though who knows… I might shove PJ to the side and replace his role with another character. I’m still weighing options.

Cause PJ was the first character I ever put this much time and thought into… my first character that was balanced, well rounded…

And what happens?

…well.

You said it Anon.

They took it - changed it (initially as an AU but now people think it’s canon) - and I can’t do much about it. Due to school and not much free-time… due to how many don’t know the true creator… and just back talking anyone who is just mentioning it to people who swear by it.

As an artist and a character designer…

It makes me not want to show designs, characters, and stories ever again online.

Considering if this is how I was treated on the first one… why even take a chance at a second one? If it has brought me so much stress, frustration, and time… why even try it again?

I said I was only going to do fanart so if anyone stole it, it didn’t really matter.
I think I should have stuck with that thought process.

In conclusion, there are some major things to take away here. First – that yes, I do not like how it has skewed this far to the point of arguing over a fandom version with the canon. Canon is canon and I get the different AUs – this is too far. Way too far. I am emotionally drained from this – from this whole mess that I have been defending throughout majority of PJ’s lifespan. I will state this – Paper Jam is my character. He is my original character that I created more than a year ago. And the UT AU fandom took my character and warped him to something he is not and all of his original meaning is lost. I do not like to hurt others or make other sad – but I must put my foot fully down. This miscommunication needs to stop. I am tired of repeating things over and over and I have past my breaking point time and time again. I just want people to see PJ how he really is… and I wish that people could be focusing more on the reality of him instead of the alternate that they all claim as truth.

Final words: I still like Undertale – I still like creating characters and having fun – but the Undertale AU fandom is ridiculous now. The Amino UT community is insanity in an app, and there is a lot of stuff that has made many artists and creators to their breaking point and leaving the fandom entirely. Everyone in this fandom needs to take ten steps back and look at what they are doing. Go back to the game. Play it again – watch your favorite let’s player’s videos of it again.

And just… food for thought… please don’t jump the gun on someone else’s OC’s personality and actions.

I do not want anyone to experience what I had.

THE SIGNS REACTIONS AFTER WATCHING A SAD MOVIE
  • Aries: "I'M NOT CRYING. I JUST HAVE ALLERGIES, LEAVE ME ALONE."
  • Taurus: They didn't pay attention to the movie because POPCORN!
  • Gemini: "The thoughts I have at night were sadder than that movie and yes, I do cry every night before I go to sleep."

  • Leo: The movie was okay. It reminded me of a time when... *goes on to tell a story about themselves*
  • Virgo: They just stare at the screen in emptiness and despair. They also used up all their tears during the movie.
  • Libra: "Am I feeling something?? What is this feeling?? Is it... SADNESS?? Oh no... Don't cry. You got thi-" *starts to cry*
  • Scorpio: "What was that? You said this movie was supposed to be sad. I didn't even shed a single tear. If this qualifies as a sad movie I don't even want to know what my life qualifies as."
  • Sagittarius: They keep ranting about the movie, and they constantly point out what was wrong with it.
  • Capricorn: "I need to go to my room..." *Screams into their pillow and cries for a good 10 minutes. Eventually walks out of their room like nothing happened*

I honestly tried so hard not to ship Destiel but it's just one of those ships y'know you just kinda accidentally ship and I really don't wanna cause some of the fandom is kinda toxic but I can't help but to ship it

Dude, SAME.

Honestly, I’ve never shipped anything before (I liked it when Spike x Buffy did eventually go somewhere and was kinda beautiful but I didn’t really ship it), I didn’t even know what shipping was until I found tumblr a few months ago, I’m mostly straight (I’m a bit fluid but meh, mostly straight), and I never really thought about representation that much beyond ‘yeah, thats a great thing, there should be more of it’.

So I just watched the show (on my own) with no previous knowledge of anything at all and…. well…. it was so obvious?!

I mean, I just binge watched the show last year because I love sci-fi and I was in a bit of a bad place and needed a distraction and had watched all the Buffy/True Blood/GoT I could and was looking for something new.

I loved seasons 1-3, I did, but then, enter Castiel and literally, my life has kind of changed?! I have an obsessive personality anyway but…. jeez. What a character and WHAT A ROMANTIC GLORIOUS LOVE STORY!

And then it just dragged… and dragged…. and yet also GREW so much?!

So, like, what exactly are they doing? Well, I believe they know exactly what they are doing, especially since Dabb took over, but hey, let’s see…. but my blog description is ‘endgame Destiel positive’ so you know what I mean ;)

It’s all THERE, they all know its there, the writers USE it in their plots, the editors make it visually obvious, it’s even referenced in the show, the actors all KNOW, I mean come on!

It’s not our fault if they use all the romance tropes with these two.

I think it is very relevant that so many Destiel meta-writers and shippers have a background in understanding stories, being teachers, journalists, book worms, cinematography students etc etc and therefore can make pretty good conclusions from the material that is being shown.

I mean, the overall story of these two characters is that one is a fallen, rebellious Angel who just wants to feel Human and belong somewhere and loves caring for others and one is a faithless man with abandonment issues who just wants someone to stay with and care for him.

Said fallen Angel rebels and does it, all of it for Him, eventually looking to Him instead of God, is in return called ‘family’ and cared for himself.

Said Human learns to have Faith in and through his Angel and through this in himself, which is a key part of his overall story in the whole show.

They’re WRITTEN as each other’s canonical other half (see this post about how its a romantic and not a buddy story according to literary guidelines).

Their story is like so many rom-com, shakespearean and classical for that matter love/mythical stories where they start out on opposite sides and kind of meet in the middle you know? The idea being that they ‘complete’ each other and lead themselves to be the best that they can be and who they really are and want to be deep down? As these two clearly do?!

I’ve said before and I’ll say again, Dean and Cas are canonically central to each other’s CORE CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT and their endgames are INTERLINKED.

I mean, if this was a guy and a girl and it was a movie, so all the story was shown in 1h30 minutes and at the end they were like oh, no, but you see, they’re just FRIENDS. Literally everyone would just be like WHAT?!

The fact that Disney movies and romcoms are so highly parallel-able with Destiel, because it fits that literary box - as a romance, not a buddy story or a drama or even a familial story, it does up to a point, but it definitely transcends this and moves into romance realms pretty early on, like, season 5 FFS.

It’s not our fault, the show made us do it.

If fandom wank is a problem for you, well, I don’t like it either, I guess no one does apart from the ones instigating it who seem to get a high off it, I just blacklist on tumblr and I don’t attend cons, so… meh, I have this gorgeous little space where we all know and all discuss what is happening and it is lovely, feel free to join us :)

Ship, this probably won't get answered but youre one of the smartest people on tumblr. I just found out that my friend just killed themselves, and i feel so unstable. I'm either on my side sobbing my eyes out or just staring at my iPad with my mind completely blank. I never even got to tell them i loved them. I don't know what to do and i just need to know if this sort of unsteady reaction is normal. I'm sorry if I'm wasting your time. Thank you.

Man… I. I’m so, so sorry. I’ve been in your place before. It feels like your gut is being ripped out over and over again and the hole filled with ice water.

Don’t worry about whether or not your reaction is normal. It is. Grief is weird and scary and uncertain and it’s never as clean as it is in the movies. Sometimes it feels fake and performative and unreal, other times it feels like physical pain. You’re going to need people and they’re going to need you, so ask for support and love and comfort and touch. It’s not going to make sense, not anytime soon, but your job right now is to breathe and eat and let yourself be loved and protected however you can.

Yes, Dee, you really should be working. Bet your horses and their owners miss you when you spend all day on here. Why don't you be a regular fan & stop spreading lies & conspiracy theories about Sam & Cait. Wonder what the uni would think of Professor McD's wife being such an obsessed out of touch with reality fanatic. And it would really be embarrassing for K to know that her mother is considered an Outlander tinhatter. Light shipping with no conspiracy theories spread is the way to go, Dee.

Awww, anon, am I spending too much time on Tumblr for your tastes? Debunking too many of your sacred, but not very well supported opinions? Sorry about that- but what I choose to do with the publicly available information that is available to me is my prerogative, as also is how I spend my free time. That’s the time when I am not working. My tag line is a bit of humour, anon, not to be taken seriously. All the work gets done and then some, anon, never worry about that!
And speaking of publicly available information, I see that you have also availed yourself of some and done some poking about as to me and my family. No problem as far as I am concerned, or my family either. It is, after all, publicly available information and you are quite welcome to it. But you leave me at something of a social disadvantage, anon, in that you presume to address me on a first name basis- but, as you have chosen to remain anonymous-I don’t yet have your name to reciprocate properly with our first name basis communications. Oh, well, I suppose there is nothing for it but to just go on addressing you as “anon” until you see fit to introduce yourself.
But I suppose I should now get down to answering your questions. Since you have troubled yourself to learn so much about me it’s the least I can do to reciprocate your interest!

First, my clients are all quite aware of my blog, and of its direction. In fact we often laugh about the absurdities of social media, and the proclivities of certain of its users to take it upon themselves to tell others how they should think. ( that’s a polite way to say “NSTer, anon)

And then there is my husband, who as you point out, anon, is indeed a professor. He was a little miffed to learn about your interest in him, anon, but only because your research seems to have failed to turn up, and refer to him by, his actual job title. He is actually a Distinguished Professor- which means he holds an endowed chair, anon, which means he is a very important part of his department, he teaches the advanced courses, sits on important committees, oh, and he also has tenure. Which means that it doesn’t really matter to him, or to his uni, what sort of things his wife might choose to do with her spare time. Even if that thing is to be an “obsessed out of touch with reality fanatic” lol! He is also well aware of my blog, and it’s content. In fact we both get a really good laugh together most mornings when he shares with me the latest political news a la Trump and friends, and I fill him in on the latest fandom happenings (that’s also a polite way to say “NSTer happenings, anon)

And then there is my lovely daughter, anon. I am so glad you didn’t leave her out of this as I am always happy to talk about her- that’s what parents love to do! She’s also well aware of my blog, and it’s content as well, anon. In fact she was the one who got me started in Tumblr. She ran a fandom blog in another fandom for several years and is also well aware of ships and shipping- and how the term "tinhatter” is applied to any ship that an individual disagrees with (which is a polite way of saying “NSTer”, anon)

So now that the pleasantries are sorted, anon, let’s get down to your real reason for writing. The conspiracy thing. You advocate “light shipping” for me, but there is no such thing. Not in the dictionary, not in the Urban Dictionary, and not even on Google. It doesn’t exist as a word, or a concept. It is only a “thing” in the minds of certain bloggers. The truth is, anon, you either ship it or you don’t. No heavy or light to it.
And as to any “conspiracies” that is also a thing that comes with the territory in this fandom. The position of both sides requires there to be a “conspiracy” for their position to exist. The Sam Cait ship requires the “official” narrative of Sam and other girls to be a put on. And the Samzie ship requires the whole of the matter between Sam and Cait, as displayed by them their own selves, to be a put on. Either way someone is doing a put on, anon, it’s just a difference of opinion as to who.

When I add it up I get sam and Cait, as do my family and friends. Others get a different answer. So be it. Live and let live, and it is all public information after all. It’s not illegal, or even immoral to form opinions about it. Or to print those opinions or discussions.

And that brings me to your last point, anon. The implication that I am putting my family at risk by looking at publicly available information, and printing my opinions about it. Or that I am doing something wrong that I, or they, would not want known about.
It’s obvious that is not the case. If I was doing wrong, and if you were actually someone with the power to do something about that, then we would be having this communication via letterhead, and not via an anonymous submission to my Tumblr blog.

And maybe you should ask yourself what it is that you are really saying when you resort to threats to try to silence the words what you claim to be nothing more than an “obsessed, out of touch with reality fanatic”. If I was truly just a “tinhatter” shouldn’t it be easy to simply ignore me the same way that everyone ignores the homeless guy who stands on the busy intersection preaching loudly, every day, about the end of he world which according to him is directly upon us?
Instead you take the time out of your life to research my family and compose implicit threats- and no one likes to waste time. That tells me that my words are not meaningless. That tells me that my words are believable- and that they are believable enough to cause a threat to your worldview. And that you had no facts at hand, or even a good argument to make to refute them. No reason to need me silenced otherwise that I can see. There really isn’t a higher compliment

So thanks, anon, for taking the time out of your day so send me such a gracious compliment. My family and I send you our regards. Sorry we can’t thank you personally at this time since you are still anonymous, but perhaps in time you will feel comfortable introducing yourself. Or maybe not, since your choice to remain anonymous rather confirms the view that revealing your true identity would also be a reveal that you are in fact nobody whose opinion actually matters- or you would be using your real name and revealing that your opinion DOES matter after all. But this all is making even my eyes roll, anon, so take care of yourself, anon, whoever you are!
Until then- Cheers!

Here’s my breakdown of what happened at C2E2!

I spent Friday attending professional panels for the comics industry, which probably deserves a post of its own, but I don’t think anyone is interested in me talking shop. But Saturday was devoted to Agents of SHIELD stuff with Iain and Liz. I had an amazing time and so many awesome things happened. Truly it was the best con experience I’ve ever had and, as @bigfunnywords (HEY Tumblr finally let me tag you!) said, I lived my best life. I’ll try to do the tl;dr version but this will probably get long.

Putting the rest behind a cut for your scrolling convenience.

‘I have a party on Friday night, would love it if you came. xxx Jun’

You had stared at the message a lot after you had gotten it on Tuesday of that week, despite having already answered it. Even though you and Jun were in a relationship highly based on the physical side - in fact it really was more of a physical relationship above anything else - and you had gone to his parties before, there was something that made you squint your eyes a little.

Normally he’d just ask you if you wanted to go to his party - this time he had said he’d love it if you went. Small details, but they caught your attention nevertheless.

thank you very much, i’m glad you enjoyed my stuff! :3

since this blog is exactly 5 years old today, what better occasion is there to do cherik fic rec post, as lurking around cherik fic rec tumblr posts waaay back in the day is actually what originally brought me to tumblr in the first place. the following list is in no particular order, and odds are i like multiple fics by the authors included but i was determined to limit myself to one from each (though in some cases, this was a veeeery close call, haha).

anyway, the actual title of this list is coincidentally the main criteria i used in the interest of not having it stretch on for miles, which is to say:

i'm sorry it why do you ship junkrat with mei?? if you haven't noticed or actually played overwatch, you'd know that mei hates junkrat, they despise each other and they're total opposites. and no, opposites don't always attract.

Ladies and Gentleman, we have a first!

In the two or so years I’ve had this blog, I’ve never had an antagonistic anon before. Then again, I only ever started branching out into non-Soul Eater things in September, so maybe this is just what happens when you start to create content for bigger fandoms?

First things first: If you don’t like the content I post, I suggest that you either unfollow my blog or use blacklist to block the tags for content you don’t like. Your Tumblr experience is curated by you. I’ll tag my content to help you blacklist topics you wish to avoid, but it’s ultimately up to each user to take the necessary steps to tailor their dashboard.

Secondly, in sending me a rude ask, you have given me an excuse to talk about a favorite ship of mine. So buckle up, we’ve got a long post incoming!

Why ship Junkrat and Mei? Why ship any two characters?

Take a gander at this post by @chaoticlivi. It’s a pretty exhaustive list of reasons people get invested in the relationship between any two characters. They span from aesthetic and visual tastes (these two look great together!) to more in depth, thematic ones (their relationship embodies a theme I care about). Basically, there are many many reasons to love a ship, and canon rarely has much to do with it.

In general, canon is a box of scraps. This is especially true for Overwatch, which despite its exhaustive lore leaves many holes in character stories and relationships. Nothing in the game itself (which I do play often, btw) is ‘canon.’ The voicelines you hear haven’t actually happened. They are meant to give us insight into the characters, their histories, and their relationships, but you can’t quote them as something Mei or Junkrat have actually said.

In-game content is also in flux. As more shorts and comics come out, as the actual Overwatch lore grows, the game evolves too. It’s possible what’s canon within the game now will change later on.

What I’m saying is, you can point at two voicelines and wave around words like ‘hate’ until you are blue in the face, but that won’t 1) make it canon that Junkrat and Mei will be at odds forever or 2) make me any less likely to ship them.

Now that I’ve got the “shipping doesn’t need a canon basis and Overwatch shipping is a crapshoot built on nearly nothing anyway” part done, I can actually talk about Mei and Junkrat.

I'm really sad about something I don't understand and was hoping you could explain. Why do people block without giving a reason to? I don't why it first seems like it's all going so well then the next you're blocked and you don't know why or what you did or said wrong? It's happened twice now and to say it hurts is an understatement.

Oh, my precious Kabby babies.  Circle up, it’s time for some firm but gentle life advice from Mom.

First of all, unless I personally am the person who blocked you (which I’m obviously not since we’re having this conversation!), in a very real sense the short answer to this question is that you know I can’t actually answer this question.  You’re asking me to tell you why a person I don’t know did a thing for which I have no context, and for which there could be a thousand reasons. So in a concrete, specific sense, my answer is: I do not know.

However.

(You knew there was going to be a however.)

Social media is a deeply personal avenue for self-expression and it’s also a world where many of us spend a great deal of our time, which means that we have the full and free right to customize it into exactly what we want it to be.  The things that you post are personal reflections of you, which is  why it bums you out when someone mutes or blocks or doesn’t follow back; it feels on some level like a personal rejection.  But the space you curate is also a personal reflection of you.  You have the right to post anything you want and other people have the right to choose not to see it.  Both of those rights are equal, even though you’re only on one side so naturally the other one feels like it’s in some way “wrong.”

I’m speaking with zero context for what your preexisting relationship with these people was beforehand (like obviously if it was a close friend and they blocked you out of nowhere, you’re going to have to sort that out with them directly, I can’t advise you there), but it’s important to remember that there may be no “right” and wrong” in this scenario.  It’s fully possible for both of these things to peacefully coexist at the same time:

1) your absolute right to feel a little bit rejected and hurt that a stranger on the internet made the choice that they didn’t want your social media sphere to overlap with their social media sphere,

and

2) that other person’s absolute right to say “if something or someone makes me feel even the tiniest bit ‘nope’ I am purging it out of this space so it is exactly what I want and need it to be.”

They don’t need to have a reason.  That sucks, when you’re on the receiving end of it, which all of us have been - it truly and genuinely sucks - but it’s also reality.  One of the hard truths that incidents like this make us sometimes have to face - and we don’t want to face these things, because they can feel really icky and vulnerable and ping all the little gremlins in our brain  - is this:

nobody on the internet owes you their time or attention for anything you do or say.

This sounds mean and brutal, and I don’t mean it to be, because you know mom loves you, but it’s incredibly important, so I’m going to say it again to make sure that if nothing else, this gets through:

nobody on the internet owes you their time or attention for anything you do or say.

The celebs you stan don’t owe you a response to your tweet, just because you want one.  The people you tag in meta don’t owe you reblogging it to continue having that conversation with you forever, just because you want to prove you’re right.  The fans of the fic you write for your most popular ship don’t owe you crossing over to give you hits on your rare-pair fic if they don’t feel like it.  Nobody owes you a certain number of followers, nobody owes you a response to every anon you send them, nobody owes you finishing that fic you like in time for them to read it when they feel like reading it.  We owe each other one thing and one thing only: basic human decency.  That’s it.  Everything else is freely offered to the world, and freely taken by the people who want it.  It’s not a transactional exchange.  If you make art or write fic and you put it out there into the world, you’ve done a cool thing, and whether it gets ten hits or thousands it was still worth doing.  There will be people who aren’t interested, but if you get hung up on feeling rejected by that, it will paralyze you.

Social media is personal. That’s unavoidable.  It’s an extension of ourselves.  When someone is cruel to you or to one of your friends on the internet, even if it’s an anonymous stranger, it feels shitty.  When you express an opinion about something and a ton of people reblog it and the tags are full of “OMG YES THISSSSS”, it feels great.  We all experience that in different ways.  Society has always selected arbitrary measures for young girls and women to live up to in order to feel like they’re popular or they’re approved by the cool kids, and right now it’s things like “how many followers do you have” and “did you get an RT from a celebrity” and “how many likes on your posts”.  So on a primal level, maybe having someone you thought was a friend block you on Twitter or Tumblr hits you in the same deep core place as having the cool kids not come to your birthday party.  That feeling is super real!  It brings up alllllll that deep stuff we try to hide and pretend that we’re above experiencing, but we all have those squishy vulnerable inner selves that just need the cool kids to like us and we feel bad when they don’t.

I had this exact conversation with my therapist a few weeks ago when she was giving me a hard time because my book has 60 reviews on Amazon, of which like the majority are 5 stars with two negative ones, and I have both the negative ones like memorized.  And she was like “CLAIRE.  WHAT THE HELL.  WHY DO YOU DO THIS?  58 POSITIVE AND YOU CANNOT QUOTE A SINGLE ONE.  TWO SHITTY ONES AND YOU KNOW THEM VERBATIM.  THAT IS NOT HEALTHY BEHAVIOR.”  And I was like “… . okay fine when you put it that way, yes I do sound like a crazy person.”  So like my advice to you – advice which I have just proven I am absolute garbage at taking myself, so like I may have just eroded my own credibility in my efforts to help – is to remember that you probably have a lot more than two followers so honestly this is probably not a bad collective ratio, and there may be lots of people who are very interested in what you have to say but you’ve focused a lot of your energy on these two people and it’s worth giving some thought as to why that is.

My question for you is this: what is the net negative impact of having these two people block you on social media? Like in an actual, concrete way, separate from those sort of core gut “I feel unloved in this moment” feelings, what is the effect on your life?  You might be surprised.  It might be zero.  In which case, let yourself feel those feelings, experience them as valid, and then breathe through them and move on and keep on doin’ you.

I’m pushing back on you a little bit here very gently because it feels, reading this anon, like you’ve made a determination of hurtful intent on the part of the person who blocked you, or at the very least a certainty that this choice that made was about you and not about them.  That the fact that things seemed to be going fine and then they blocked you means you were somehow intentionally misled or mistreated.  Be really, really, really careful about deciding the cool girl didn’t come to your birthday party because she’s a bitch who wanted to make you feel terrible and is sitting somewhere cackling at the thought of your sad lil’ face waiting by the front door; maybe she didn’t come to your birthday party because she has depression and it’s hard for her to leave the house sometimes and she knew your party would be loud and wild and crazy and too much for her brain to handle right now. Be careful about presuming negative intent with no proof it exists.  The internet makes this so easy, the internet conditions us for this, and it conditions us to respond in kind. The worst thing you could do here is to, like, make a callout post or subtweet in the hopes that it will get back to them and they’ll feel bad, or to sic your other followers onto them, because that turns this into a situation that really does have a right and wrong; and since you don’t know if they were trying to make you feel shitty, or just went on a big block/mute purge to whittle their list down for mental health reasons that are totally their own, once things escalate you can’t put the horse back in the barn. It’s too late.  Now it’s A Thing, when maybe it never really needed to be A Thing.  And in almost all situations for almost all people in almost all ways, Kabby Mom’s advice is going to be, “please think carefully before you make this A Thing.”

This got long, I’ve been having a lot of thoughts lately about the conversations I’m always having with fandom folks the way we let social media permeate and shape our sense of self, in good ways and bad, so I apologize for my verbosity but also not really because that’s how things roll over in Kabby Mom’s Advice Corner.  But I will sum up in bullet points for those of you who have been skimming, to bring you up to speed:

  1. Everyone has the right to curate their own social media space however they see fit, and they don’t have to explain their reasons.
  2. They aren’t obligated to include you in that space even if you want them to.
  3. None of that is an objective measure of your worth as a person or a sign that you should stop being you on the internet.
  4. Your feelings of rejection come from a real place and you get to feel them, as long as
  5. You are striving to move through them without permitting them to paralyze you, and finally
  6. You never use someone else’s choice to curate their social media sphere as a justification for treating them like crap.

Focus on your positive interactions instead of negative ones – your friends, creating stuff and putting it out into the universe – whether it be art, fic, opinions, a podcast, gifsets, crackposts, whatever – and your social media world will be a better place.

anonymous asked:

Hi, if you don't mind could you explain what that means because I'm lost, also what trend where you talking about here: "me, being kicked out of school for plagiarism: um you’re not entitled to my emotional labor? find the sources yourself"

um, you’re not entitled to my emotional labour.

No, I’m joking, of course I will explain.

This is a joke about an exchange you might see rattling around tumblr, usually in regards to social justice topics. Someone will ask for an explanation of or clarification on a topic, or advice on how to handle something and they’ll just be told to “educate themselves”, and sometimes told directly that asking is demanding emotional labour of minorities.

(in case you’ve not run across the term, emotional labour originated in describing the extra emotional theatre service workers are expected to perform for customers, but nowdays gets used more broadly to demands for emotional support and processing and free domestic and similar labour which is disproportionately demanded of women and other minorities).

So the joke is about the differing epistemological standards between Tumblr, where that’s appropriate and academia, where you’d actually be punished because you are, quite legitimately, expected to back up your statements.

And the reason that I reblogged it specifically in the meanest way possible is that I do not like the concept of “just educate yourself”. I really, really do not.

This is an idea that comes from a lot of good places, which is what I’m going to start with. But it also gets used in a lot of ways I find at best deeply suspect and at worst fairly toxic, which is why I was reblogging the joke in my nastiest voice.

1. I do think that if you’re going to ask someone for advice directly the polite thing to do is to exhaust your own resources first. The idea that Dr. Google should be your first stop is a good one and I don’t want to bash on it.

2. A lot of this arises from people who get deluged with questions, often invasive, and often repeatedly exerting the right to take a break. AND THAT’S DEFINITELY AWESOME. No one should be compelled to do activism. When someone says “hey can you answer my question” unless you’re actually being paid to educate them, “no” is definitely an excellent and reasonable answer. And if someone tells you their not doing the question answering thing, the only polite option is to gracefully go ask someone else.

3. Some people get tremendously picky about how other people offer them free time and effort and the call to educate yourself comes, in part from people who’ve been offered summaries and curated reading lists and demanded, instead, private lessons. Which is just bloody rude.

BUT, even though “go away and educate yourself” is a totally reasonable idea in many circumstances, as I’ve listed, there are some really icky ways I see some of this getting used.

1. I find the idea that dropping an ask in someone’s open ask box is a “demand” very suspect. Its certainly a request, but there’s no force associated with it. If I’d decided not to answer this, for instance, I could simply delete it. If I kept getting too many asks I could even close my ask box, or turn off anon. You can’t compel me to answer your ask. You can’t punish me for not doing it. (I am perfectly happy to answer this, fyi). Now, the nature of Tumblr means that searching is very hard and its easy to end up deluged with the same basic question over and over. I’m not an education blog, I get few asks and I’ve still been asked what image captions are for 5-6 times. So I get that it can be very frustrating… but its still not a demand.

2. It often seems to carry the idea that finding information is a lot easier than it actually is. Really basic information can be readily googled. But there’s huge amounts of ideas I’ve encountered during fandom conversations, or just floating through tumblr threads, or on ask blogs that I have LITERALLY been unable to find via google, even after a good few hours looking, and that’s for information that I already know. I don’t think this is malicious a lot of the time. When you’re an expert its very easy to loose track of what is and isn’t easy to find for a non-expert. But its still pretty brutal to exhaust your google-skills, go ask something and be told in so many words to “just google it stupid”.

These two aren’t so bad, they’re mostly just a case of conflicting experiences and that happens. But.

3. Even though “go do it yourself” is a great thing to say if you’re looking to avoid activism (and I’ll reiterate I think that’s everyone’s right and you should never feel bad for saying ‘no I’m done/not doing this’ about activism, God knows I do it enough) I see it being used as activism instead. And it gives me a case of the nopes. Because the person who does the educating sets the curriculum. And when you say “go educate yourself” you’re rolling the dice on if the person who does educate them is on your side or not. Especially because it is virtually impossible to fact-check something you’re unfamiliar with. There’s also often a HUGE effort imbalance. Like, sure, it takes me some effort to dig up my “here’s why image captions are a thing” post. And it took me a bit of effort to write it in the first place, but It would probably take the asker a lot longer to google it all up. And that’s a pretty simple topic. I’ve asked activist friends for reading lists before and realistically getting 20-30min help from them has saved me probably 2-3 hours. And the information quality is better on top of that.

4. While this doesn’t happen a huge amount, I see this sometimes attached to very complex issues, or or topics where opinions are very diverse and then it, quite frankly, creeps me out a bit. Because when I see “just educate yourself omg” attached to a post with a strong opinion element, even though it might not be intentional, I cannot help but perceive an undercurrent of “if you were truly educated you’d agree with me” and “how dare you ask for sources, don’t question me, just shut up and do as I say”… and those… those are not good dynamics.

jannock-jess  asked:

Tumblr Mom, I keep seeing posts about Hunger Pangs and I'm so torn because, I'm like super ace and don't have any interest in erotica??? But I am super interested in your writing and the characters and the plot?? So I guess my question is what is your rough estimate of what the plot-to-sexytimes ratio is going to be? (I'll probably wind up buying it either way just because I love your writing lol)

oh! Oh you don’t know! I’m also writing the book without smut for those who don’t want to read that :)

It will likely come out a few months after the initial book comes out because well, I am not just printing the book sans sex scenes, I’m replacing them with what I suppose in fanfic would be termed “missing moments” so all the soft fluff and character moments authors get told to cut out of their work because it bogs down the narrative.

It’s still quite heavy on displays of physical affection, but there’s no actual sex and the scenes that would normally lead up to sex have been changed to reflect that. So much less handsy in the sense of “I can’t keep my hands off you, I must have you!” and more “why can’t I stop touching this idiot, look how cute they are, oh gosh their hair is doing the thing, I can’t believe I’m spending eternity with this asshole, I love them.”

It’s been a lot of fun to do in tandem and I hope it will be just as much enjoyed.

But to answer your question, the erotica version of the manuscript is very heavy on sex scenes, I’m not sure how many but there’s entire chapters dedicated to just scenes. I have been told however by some friends who also identify as ace that they don’t mind the sex scenes because I tend to write heavily toward the emotional side of things, and they’re able to enjoy the very obvious love and care the characters have for each other. Even if one of them is tied up.

So, for whatever that’s worth, thank you for being interested in my work. I really, god, really hope it lives up to expectations, I’m so nervous you have no idea.

i’ve posted before about why i think sunny is genuinely building toward endgame macdennis and not simply engaging in queerbaiting, and i’ve touched on this specific point before but like. queerbaiting originated as a writing and marketing strategy within pieces of media that stood to benefit financially from cultivating the emotional investment of shippers. supernatural, merlin, and teen wolf all come to mind - shows that catered to audiences of primarily women, and primarily queer women who write fanfiction and care deeply about lgbt representation.

sunny is not that type of show. sunny’s audience is not that type of audience. like, the showrunners are aware that they have an lgbt audience; they felt that mac coming out would be “a societal good.” but all of us - the ~500 gays sitting on the internet screaming about macdennis day in and day out - we are not the show’s target audience. i don’t even know that we’re a statistically significant chunk of the total viewership. there are 424 macdennis fics on ao3 and 64487 deancas fics. both shows started airing in the same year.

i guess the point i’m trying to make is that it doesn’t make much sense to talk about “baiting” when it’s plainly obvious that the vast majority of viewers don’t have any particular interest in taking the bait. like, okay, when i posted my craigslist ad asking for a fellow macdennis shipper to let me watch the finale with them, saying “i think they’re finally going to make macdennis canon,” the ad hit reddit, and this was what sunny’s target audience had to say:

  • “Wait, so is Dennis gay too?” “I think Dennis just gets off to other people being attracted to him”
  • “I don’t think Dennis cares what he sticks his dick in, as long as he is in control.”
  • “Definitely not gay, but very possibly bisexual. Either way, dude’s crazy about sex. I really don’t think he’d hook up with Mac though.”
  • “I’ll be extremely surprised if [Macdennis] actually happens.”
  • “I mean, I’ve been watching and I haven’t really picked up on anything that would lead me to this Dennis/Mac thing. Did I miss something?” “I don’t think so. Except that Mac did something nice for Dennis last episode and he’s now openly gay. But that’s not really anything.”
  • “Gay/bi people on tumblr really want it to happen. I search for IASIP discussion on there and there are certain blogs that are dedicated to it.They think reddit is homophobic too, and will hate it. Side note: they also hate the Dennis is a serial killer theory. I guess because it competes against their Dennis is gay/bi theory? They’re strange people.”
  • “The reason I would hate Mac/Dennis is not because I’m homophobic, but because it would come out of nowhere and be totally out of character for both of them.”
  • “Mac’s coming out was really organic. Dennis doing the same would feel forced and teetering on pandering. Although they have laid some groundwork to make a future hookup/drunken one night stand possible.”
  • “Mac coming out made perfect sense because from the beginning of the series it was established that he was (probably) gay. Dennis is a complete sexual enigma, and he’s a far more interesting character that way.”
  • “I’ve seen that more in the context of a “brotherly” relationship gone a little too far than anything sexual. If they manage to pull off Mac/Dennis in a way that’s funny and makes sense instead of just pandering to the tumblr crowd, I’m all for it.”
  • “Well it’s always been pretty evident Mac is in love with Dennis, I just don’t see Dennis reciprocating.”
  • “Dennis is definitely arrogant enough to pretend to be gay just because Mac thinks he’s a god.”
  • “If they make Mac/Dennis canon I think it’ll be a one time thing like Charlie and Dee. If that happens, I don’t think the whole dynamic of the show is going to change just because they hooked up once. Lol.”
  • “Mac is clearly into Dennis. Dennis knows this but doesn’t reciprocate. He probably uses it a psychological leverage though”
  • “Dennis isn’t gay though, just extremely vain. The attraction is only coming from Mac. If they were going down this route they’d drop hints for seasons.”

right like that’s not… that’s not exactly a fandom chomping at the bit for this to happen. like, if anything, it sounds like making macdennis canon would piss the fanbase off. this despite the showrunners explicitly declaring mac and dennis to be gay, explicitly saying that dennis is bisexual - on multiple occasions - like. this is all adding up to something and it certainly doesn’t look like they’re pandering to their audience.

Where do you think someone who knows maybe 5 words/phrases in French should start if they're going to France in two months (i.e. I am) ? I really don't want to just be speaking Spanish and English in France haha

Wow that is quite the predicament you’ve got there. I would say use some language learning apps like Duolingo and Memrise (my personal favourite). Remember to use them every day, and that the best way to learn is to spread it evenly not do one massive learning session once a week. A little bit every day goes a long way.

Here is a list of a whole bunch of PDFs of English books in French eg Harry Potter and The Hunger Games series’. If you’ve previously read the books then you’ll be able to focus more on the language learning part rather than the actual plot and getting lost when trying to figure out what’s going on. Here is also a website where you can read and listen to books in French with the English on the other side, so if you get lost then it’s there to help you learn. Write down new words that you find and look them up after you have finished that chapter, that way you focus more on the book and don’t get confused with sentence structure.

Look up French music and when you find a song that you like, go and look at the lyrics and see what you can translate for yourself, then find an actual translation and see how close you were. Write down words that you don’t know/understand/recognise and look them up. Write down new words so you can look back at them later. Do the same with some French YouTubers. Some have English subtitles and are actually there to help you learn french whilst still being like normal English vloggers. I really like Antastesia as she makes videos in English too.

In terms of translating stuff, I find WordReference really helpful. It’s a website and an app where you can look up words in English and French (and other languages). It’s much better than Google Translate, as it gives you possible translations of words, and what they mean. So if you wanted to know what something meant in a specific context then it would give you different options and you choose the one that best fits the situation you need it for. I don’t know anything other than Google Translate for phrases (other than Memrise or Duolingo), so if you have specific phrases then I think Google Translate would be the best, but make sure to double check the words in the sentences with WordReference before you use it as some can be wildly wrong. And, of course, you can just google it and see what comes up.

For help with conjugating verbs, I recently found these two sites (x) (x) to be really useful.

Write down any questions you have about the language and then if you have a teacher or someone who knows French either online or in real life, then ask them.

Practice speaking/writing as much as you can. Find someone to help you with the language and use them as a language buddy. If you can find someone online, even better. You most likely won’t know them so you can use all of the basic small talk that you will use in France.

For learning the words for objects around the house try writing the names on sticky notes and placing it on the object, this way you’ll remember the word when you see the object.

Learn how to ask for tickets/directions/suggestions for places to eat. These are very important if you are new to a place and doesn’t just apply to France. Also, when learning how to ask for things, remember to learn some possible answers to these questions, as when you ask, you probably want to understand their answer, right?

Read articles or things in french out loud to practice pronunciation. Do the same with writing. Say the sentence you want to write in French out loud. Speak each word as you write it down, and when you’ve finished writing it down, say the sentence out loud again.

Mnemonics and puns are your bet friends for remembering certain words. For example, when remembering ou (or) from où (where), I remember it by the phrase where is the graveyard, as the accent on the u is called Accent Grave and où means where.

For a brief rundown of uses of accents and how to pronounce them, I have a post here of my notes from a French class where we did just that.

In terms of writing accents online, French.typeit.org is really good. Basically, it just lets you add accents to letter then you copy and paste it to wherever you need it. Woo.

Learn the grammar rules. I know it’s boring, hard, and confusing, but trust me, once you learn it your life will be a whole lot easier. Speaking of, grammar books are better than phrase books in this sense as with grammar books you can actually learn the structure of sentences and learn how to make them yourself where as with phrase books you’re more spoon fed.

Finally, there’s a whole lot of French blogs with lots of vocab words and grammar posts to look at and learn from. One of my personal favourites is @frenchaise . They were the first blog I came upon when starting out in the French Tumblr community and all of their posts are top notch. Highly recommend you check them out.

There are a ton more resources on the web (as the kool kidz say) that you can find but these are just a few that I use. These are just a few tips to hopefully help you survive on your trip. Bonne chance!

Hey there, Rani! FitzSimmons + 35) things you said that made me feel real

Hi, Jane!! How’ve you been? Just super intimidated to write something for you, but here ya go haha. Set towards the end of season 2, but no Maveth or “maybe there is.”

“You’re not here,” he whispers to himself and then shuts his eyes, knowing when he opens them she’ll be gone. This has never happened before—he’d never allowed it to happen before. Mostly because it seems disrespectful to her, to force her into a relationship she’s never wanted, even if it all exists within his imagination. But partly because he knew crossing this line would turn her from a supportive crutch into a weighted stone around his neck.

Imagining her eyes shining with affection and longing and…love? Love. Imagining the feel of her in his arms, in his bed. All it will do, in the end, is drag his body back down to the ocean floor where his soul has dwelled for a lifetime.

“What?” she asks, voice tight and small, and his eyes flicker open to find her still here, sheet tucked around her, makeup smeared, hair mussed beyond recognition. He’s never seen her like this before and she’s beautiful.

“I-I uh…nothing,” he says, turning away from her because staring at her too long is like staring into the sun.

So, does this mean he is living in a universe in which Jemma Simmons barged her way into his room, told him “enough, Fitz,” and then kissed the words right out of his mouth?

And if that’s all true, how is it possible that she’s still here, drawing on his body heat? Why didn’t she escape in the middle of the night when she had the chance?

“Fitz,” she says softly and rests a hand on his chest, right over his thudding heart. He should be embarrassed. He is embarrassed, but it’s far enough down on his list of emotions that it barely registers.

“Are you okay?” she asks, when he doesn’t respond. Tears catch at the corners of his eyes and now he’s properly mortified. He can’t answer her. What could he possibly say? He’s not brain damaged enough to believe this is anything but physical comfort for Jemma, still reeling from betrayals and deaths and her own trauma.

And it’s not that he minds, truly. He’d given her his last, most important breath—what is one night of making her body thrum with pleasure? But why couldn’t she have just left? Why did she have to stay and program his brain to think waking up next to her was normal?

She loves him, in a way, but this, the hands and the mouths and the aching of a want finally sated, this is not real. She’s not real. Maybe, after everything, he’s not either.

“Oh, Fitz, I’m so sorry,” she sighs, and her breath warms the side of his neck in a way that makes his whole world shatter.

“It’s okay,” he says, and he thinks these might be the first words he ever spoke, as if his sole reason for existing is to reassure her. “It’s okay, I underst-I uh, I get it.”

“No,” she says sadly, “I don’t think you do.”

She leans her head against his shoulder, burrowing into his side. He can feel her cool skin against his and his entire body tenses. So that part, at least, hadn’t been a desperate fiction. There’s no way his brain could conjure up precisely how she feels fitted against him with no barriers remaining.

“I’m sorry for…springing this all on you. I’m just so tired of wasting time. And I’m not…so great with expressing myself either, you know. I thought I could just show you.”

Her echo of his own words causes something to catch in his lungs and he struggles to remember that this time he has all the oxygen he needs.

Jemma slides her hand down from his heart until she can grasp his hand, and she holds on tight. “Talk to me. Please.”

“I can’t do this,” he says, finally turning to look at her. This act might be the most courageous he’s ever been. “I can’t pretend that…I mean, I’m happy to make you feel better. I’m happy that we’re friends again. But I can’t pretend that this is just…” He tries to pull his hand away, but she’s strong and won’t let him.

“Just what, Fitz?” and she’s looking at him like she truly doesn’t know and he can’t understand it.

“I’m in love with you,” he finally chokes, the words falling from his mouth like bullets and he hates that because his love for Jemma is not a warzone. Despite the hurt that clawed at his limbs when she returned, despite the lies between them, his love for her has only ever been a carefully tended, wildly overgrown garden. He loves all of it—the wildflowers sprouting up where no one has planted them, the crisp apples and inexplicable tropical fruits, sweet mango juice trailing down his chin, the weeds that refuse to be killed, the roses he yearns to touch without cutting himself to pieces.

He wishes he could show her.

Jikook Fic Masterlist

Hi! This is my first official post on this blog other than just reblogging Jikook. I recently just found out that my best friend (who I succeeded in getting obsessed with BTS) ships Jikook and

I’m so unbelievably happy you have no idea.

Anyway, this masterlist is dedicated to her to get her started on the Best of the Best Jikook fics that I’ve read, needless to say that’s a lot.

But, don’t worry! To all who are reading I don’t ONLY rec fics, I also WRITE them. I have multiple fics lined up to write, they’re all Jikook because I’m an actual dumpster. I just have a shit ton of homework like all the time, so I have no idea when they’re going to be uploaded.

Follow me on AO3! I have one fic and it’s not even Jikook, but do it for the future fics.

ANYWAY, enough with my ramblings and onto the fics! I read a lot of fluff so that’s mostly what these are, but they’re REALLY GOOD so go read them! @thatdeadlypenguin this is for you!

On Patrol - It’s ongoing but GOD it’s so good. It’s a cop AU and my lord the feels are strong and wonderful. It has side ships Yoonseok and Namjin, but everything is so fluffy. Up until chapter 18, just watch out for that one, it ripped my heart out.

Track one: I love you - My heart is breaking one piece at a time and it feels so good because this story just puts it right back together again. IT’S ANGST and I barely ever read angst because I can’t handle it, but this was just so GOOD. It has Yoonmin in the beginning, but they break up and Jungkook has to help him build up again and it’s so heartbreaking I hardcore cried while reading this and I’m not a crier. I’ve said this before and I’m going to say it again this is BEAUTIFUL. Wonderfully written and it’s absolutely stunning go read it please.

Riptide - My TEARS this is SO GOOD. It’s non AU and there’s angst but MY GOD it is so beautifully written and I love it. Eighteen chapters of magic right here guys READ IT. It’s heartbreaking at some parts, smutty in others, and fluff dotted here and there but it’s wonderful and you all should read it.

Blow Me Like Your French Horn - This is fucking hilarious. 8 chapters of crack basically. French Horn!Jungkook and Trumpet!Jimin. Jungkook is such a child and it’s hilarious. Warning - The cursing in this story in cranked up to 10, just saying.

You’re My Genie, Lamborghini (You’re My Teeny Weeny Meenie) - Social Networking!AU and my heart cannot describe how much I love it. A little bit of smut but it’s mostly just fluff. I love it. Tip for moblie users: Scroll to the right. It’ll make a lot more sense when the pictures can show up because then you’ll actually be able to read everything (it took me 3 reads to figure that out).

The Ocean at the End of the Universe - Aviation Academy!AU that takes place 5000 years in the future and the characters in it are mostly Jimin, Jungkook, and Taehyung but the rest of Bangtan is mentioned. This is fabulous though, one of my most recent reads and it’s wonderful.

sugar, we’re going down swinging - AAAAAAAAHHHHHHH this fic is one of my favorites of all time. Modern Sherlock!AU. Basically Jimin is Sherlock and Jungkook is Watson and Jungkook is Done like all the time. Jimin is a child. A really smart child who likes to solve crimes and drags Jungkook the med student/roommate along with him on his adventures. MUST READ

Could you turn off your cell phone? (Bts Social Media au) - Ongoing It’s exactly what it says in that it’s a Jikook social media au served with a side of Yoonseok and a dollop of Namjin. It’s fluff and humor, basically. AGAIN, A TIP- Mobile users, scroll to the right when the pictures come up.

longing: a yearning desire - Ongoing. nnnnggghghghh oh my GOD I love this. Soulmate!AU with Mute!Jimin and Jungkook the Romantic. It’s beautiful, side of Yoonseok, it’s cute. Read it.

slytherpuff relationships are the best 1 2 3 - It’s a series. Harry Potter!AU and I don’t really like Harry Potter, but this is so UNBELIEVABLY GOOD that I just had to read it. Hufflepuff!Jimin and Slytherin!Jungkook. Basically, Jungkook is the seeker for Slytherin and Jimin is his fanboy and then Jungkook goes and sits at the Hufflepuff lunch table and FLUFF ENSUES SERIOUSLY IT’S SO GOOD GO READ IT EVEN IF YOU DON’T LIKE HARRY POTTER. Should be read in the order of which they’re listed.

In the Line of Fire - Fraternity!AU and Jimin and Jungkook are in enemy fraternities and there’s a water war and Jimin wants nothing to do with it and he keeps getting soaked. Jungkook thinks he’s cute and this ends up with smut, but it’s a good lead up to good smut so go read it.

Guilty Pleasures - CCCCUUUUUTTTTTEEEE pure fucking fluff and it’s wonderful. It’s just a thousand word one-shot but it’s so WORTH IT. Jimin wakes up at 2 am to make brownies and Jungkook wakes up to help him and Seokjin is mad because he smells chocolate when he wakes up the next morning.

Flower Talk - Oh MY GOD this is so beautiful. Jikook both work in a flower shop with Jungkook as the delivery boy and Jimin really likes talking about flowers and it’s so beautiful and cute and fluffy and I HIGHLY RECOMMEND.

That’s basically it at the moment regarding all the REALLY GOOD ones I’ve read. Most of the stuff I read is fluff, but when I’m feeling sinful I’ll read smut. But yeah, hope this was helpful and you enjoyed!

Do you have any tips for writers who want to write sim stories but don't know how to get them posted in order?

Hi Nonny! I’ll be honest, I wasn’t 100% sure what this question was asking, but I don’t like to give advice that isn’t at least somewhat well-thought out. So here are my tips for starting out and how to format/order your posts (or something like that.)

Jade’s Super Awesome Tips For Getting Your Simblr Story/Legacy Off the Ground i.e. Potentially Helpful Formatting Tips For New Simblr Writers

First of all: If you want to do a sims story, DO IT. They’re great creative outlets, and someone will want to read it! And remember, it is your blog, so do whatever you want, and don’t feel pressured to have to make things a certain way. But, if you want to be organized, these are some guidelines:

1. Identify your posts in some way. Doesn’t matter how. Some simblr writers use episode, some use chapters, some use a mixture of both (i.e. Chapters for longer portions, like an entire arc, and episodes for each individual scene. Example: Chapter 1: Episode 1, Chapter 1: Episode 2… etc.). This is helpful in letting regular readers know if they’ve missed a post, and follow along linearly. It’s just helpful all around.

2. Linkage. My dudes, this is so important, which is why I made a previous post about it. A lot of simblr writers are already doing previous/next links on their posts, and that’s GREAT. Everyone should definitely be doing this. Personally, I really think the movement should expand to include “beginning” links. On my own posts I have all three, a link to to the start of that particular story, the previous post in the sequence, and I update all posts to include the “next” link once I have it posted. Tumblr’s post formatting makes this SO easy, there’s no real reason not to do it, because it’s super helpful to readers, and trust me, people want to read from the beginning. Maybe not everyone, but you also don’t want to turn people away because they couldn’t find the start of your cool story. So, I repeat, all stories should have this format: Beginning/ Previous / Next links on each post. I’m beating a dead horse here, but it’s so nice, as a reader, just to be able to flip through someone’s story via easy linking, because I don’t have to break my immersion of the story by tabbing out or looking around, or scrolling through your posts to find the next one in line.

  • Helpful side note: If you’re the type of writer who posts things out of chronological order, using these links would still be a good idea, because you can go back and edit them at any time, and you can link to any post on your tumblr, so if you post something later down the line that you think should have happened at an earlier time in the story, you can just rearrange your links to reflect your correct chronological timeline.
  • Here is my tutorial on how to link your story posts with beginning/next/previous links!

3. Tag correctly. Some simblr writers have more intensive tagging systems than I do, so I won’t speak too much about this, because as a reader, I don’t really use tags to navigate new stories I read. But it is still important to tag all posts in a story the same, so either with the title or legacy name, and then you can tag individual chapters or episodes if you want to. Also be sure to tag if you’re doing a story, or a legacy, or whatever type of story. I use #ts4 story #sims story #ts4 storytelling, there’s a whole other slew of legacy tags which I don’t use, cuz obviously I am not a legacy simblr.

4. Have a table of contents or story page of some sort, especially if you’re doing multiple stories/legacies at once, but even if you’re not, it will help people who are lurking around your profile navigate through your story. If you’d like an example of how to format them, here is my story page and here are my table of contents pages.  As I am not the be all and end all for formatting, I think another great example is @beverlyallitsims index page (she made it SO easy to catch up on her MLSC story and now I’m just another Randy fangirl. I’m a living testament to this process working wonders!).

5. Billboard advertising. Okay, now this one is totally optional, but if you are doing a legacy or story, it’s a really nice little touch to have a banner or some tell, even if it’s just a small one (you don’t need to be some Photoshop wizard), to let people know that this is an ongoing thing you’re doing, not just a random collection of photos (those are cool too!), but some people go looking specifically for stories and/or legacies to read, so having a banner or something with your story title or legacy name (generation number) is a good idea, too.

Bottom Line: Make your stuff accessible! Unless, of course, you don’t actually want people to read it lol, which is totally fine, too. Some people like to use their blogs as a personal outlet, and don’t need to be noticed. But there’s nothing wrong with trying to be visible, and if you do have a small pool of readers, be generous and help them along. Total strangers want to read your work, put in a little extra time to make sure their stay is a pleasant one. You know, before you rip out their hearts with your edgy theatrical sim-drama.

Again, idk if this answers your question, Nonny. But I do want to help! If anyone has any questions or is looking for advice, feel free to message me, either privately, or on Nonny, I don’t mind. My inbox is always open.

I notice everything. I might not say anything, but trust me, I notice.
I can tell when you’re trying to maintain your excitement because you want to come off nonchalant and cool. You’ll either clasp your hands together, then shrivel your shoulders up, or you’ll slightly lean back with a little smirk on your face.
I notice the little facial changes that coincides with your moods. When you are sad or disappointed, you don’t speak as much, but rather you stay on your phone, constantly refreshing your social media, making people believe that you are busy talking to someone or that you have better things to do then to feel. You avoid eye contact with people because you don’t want them to know that you are down, or that if they look into your eyes long enough you might just burst out into tears.
When you constantly say that you don’t care, or that you’re okay, I know that you’re not, but you just don’t want to talk about it because you don’t want to come off weak.
I know that when you’re interested in someone or if you’re trying to flirt, you’ll always play with your hair. You’ll either constantly push your bangs back, or readjust your hair to the side.
When you are cold, you’ll just mention how chilly it is once, and then you’ll cross your arms and hold your phone in your right hand. There are times you will come closer so that I can block off the wind, or just for some kind of body heat, but still you’ll refuse a jacket because you want me to know that you are independent and that you don’t need me to take care of you.
I know that you hate confrontations because you’re afraid that if you talk about it, the situation might turn bad, and people will leave. So you change the subject or say, “okay, I understand” and just leave it at that. But I know. I know that you are opinionated, and that you have so much you want to say back, but you’ll bite your tongue for the sake of maintaining peace in your life.
When you say that you’re over it or that you’re over people, I know that you’re not. I know that it bothers you when things end on a bad note. It might not bother you now, but I know that months later you’ll start to wonder when and why did it go wrong, but you won’t say anything because you have too much pride. There are times that you will question yourself and just wonder if you are the problem, but believe me when I say that you’re not.
I know that you know my tumblr. I know that you’ve read everything, and I know that you know that I write about you. I know that you are trying to handle my feelings with care, but at the same time you’re trying to process it yourself. I know that you are slowly pushing me away because you don’t know what to do because you don’t feel the same and you never will. I know that you feel guilty for having me around, and expecting me to be there when you think that you don’t deserve it because you can’t reciprocate the same feelings. I know that.

-Here’s what you should know.

I know that you don’t feel the same, nor will you ever. Still, I fell for you knowing what the outcome would be. I’m in my emotions because I chose you, even when you never asked me to. This is my own doing, so don’t feel guilty about it. They are emotions that I need to handle on my own so don’t feel responsible. You need to know that our friendship is far more important than my one-sided feelings. You’re important to me and I don’t want to lose you as a friend. To end what we have will hurt far more than what is unreciprocated.

Ya know what grinds my gears about RWBY

When ‘edgy’ rwde RWBY fans:

- Try and blame the bumbleby shippers for the ‘ship war’ between it and [the other ship involving Blake] that’s apparently ruining the show and the three characters, or vice versa ship wise

Because insinuating it’s all our fault will make us feel guilty and hopefully we will shut up [not likely tho]; the whole thing is just our fault because we want our ship to happen just as much as the other side whom of which are not at fault at all. Like almost a ‘war’ doesn’t take two opposing sides to actually happen? Lmao. Nobody is really at fault, except the people that attack others.

- Use them as a reason to not watch it anymore [even though they 'hate it anyway and the writing is awful omg’]

Since the plot that was probably thought up years ago is being ruined by us, even though it 'sucks anyway because Miles and/or Kerry is/are terrible’ and it’s not like two VAs for two of the characters ship it or anything.

- Say 'they only attack the other ships and only want to focus on their ship at all times’

Because I can remember the amount of times I’ve attacked another person for liking a ship [it’s zero], and most people aren’t dickheads, and we shouldn’t be lumped in with the ones that are because that’s bs generalisation. And we all don’t only focus on bumbleby, but for some of us it’s a really big deal that maybe there’s gonna be gay gals that are on screen, and not just in the last scene of the series [cough LoK]. And I think about the whole show but I like to discuss important things to me i.e the ship.

- Claim 'maybe not all of bb shippers are bad but *proceeds to reason why they’re all bad anyway and/or make the ship suffer for a few bad eggs*’

Cool thanks for contradicting yaself, generalising once again and/or making a perfectly reasonable ship seem like it’s shit because some people are mean about it.

- We’re man haters/unreasonably disliking [or insert anything about $un], since ’$un is amazing’

Some people not liking $un that much as a character ≠ man hating/≠ unreasonable. I don’t like all the characters in a show wow I’m a monster.

- Say 'I’m fine with f/f but *here’s why I will not support it anyway*’

If you’re fine with f/f, you don’t have to mention it if you’re disagreeing with the ship for unrelated reason m8!

- Or my favourite: say “the shippers ruined Blake x Yang and I don’t even want it to happen now”

I don’t even know any of these people irl and now I have to watch some people bash a ship because of some random person’s actions I had no control over. Sounds pretty dumb doesn’t it?

- Possibly more stupid bs that is purely subjective opinion they use to try to justify hating the show/a ship/a character.

Apparently we act/are acting like 'entitled brats’ when we want LGBT etc etc representation in the show that has been said by its creators to have it; and we want it in the bumbleby ship. Because somehow, we are forcing them to do it by supporting it, and therefore making the show a piece of shit.

That we are reaching; since [insert any possible evidence for Blck$un] happened and it’s **proof** they’re going to date and that no other ship has a chance.
(if I thought BB was the only option I wouldn’t be discussing it like I do; anything is possible right now).
Literally nothing is canon or set in stone (I promise I don’t say that as a reason to 'disprove’ the legitimatacy of Blck$un as a possibility).

Because two main characters being interested in each other would //ruin the plot//, even though some of the plot has included Yang (and even $un too) being dragged into Blake’s consequences of her past.

And especially, that we are solely responsible for the drama because we are all crazy or just seeing what we want to see.

Because that isn’t exactly what everyone does when they want a ship to happen…?

Let’s be clear:
This goes both ways for anyone who goes around hating (yet some of the reasons would differ).

Going around attacking someone for liking a ship is ludicrous. Spreading hate about a ship is too.

I endeavour to never do that and have been successful. It’s not difficult.
I stay in my tag and all that tumblr shit; I stick to being positive and not including *why another ship won’t happen* as a reason to justify my favourite ship.

Using another ship as a reason to disprove something makes no sense because nobody is correct at this point, we’ve got equal chance of getting what we each want. In the end some of us may end up disappointed, but that’s not happening right now so why can’t we just be civil?

Why should Blck$un shippers suffer because of other shippers? They shouldn’t.
Why should bee shippers suffer because of other shippers? We shouldn’t.

Seriously, any normal person in any ship camp wouldn’t agree with being rude or mean to other people over a ship, or attacking somebody for having different tastes.

Most importantly to me; why should the chance of Bumbleby happening be damaged or suffer, just because a few people are disgruntled because of some assholes that NONE of us sane people agree with?

Don’t let anybody tell you what to ship. Decide for yourself and be positive about it, aim for support and *that’s it*.

Stop the negativity, please.
