i don't give a shit if their relationship is different now

(long post, sorry)

In spite of everything I love Harley Quinn but, damn, writers treat her so badly. I swear, the temptation to make her actually stupid must be terrible because it’s so often implied, or explicitly stated, that she slept her way through school. First of all, it does not work like that.  Second, she’s not a therapist or a psychologist, she’s a psychiatrist, she’s a fricking MD and a damn young one too. Managing pre-med and collegiate gymnastics that she relied on to keep her scholarship? Harley is fucked up, but she’s not the dumb blonde she plays. (also stop making her stacked, she’s a gymnast. she is 4’11” of pure muscle and is not top heavy)

If you want a good Harley backstory it’s simple. She’s ADHD but medicated and slightly robotic because of it. I want to take special care not to demonize meds but, rather, people’s disapproval of neurodivergence and a lack of focus on what is best for a patient rather than what is most convenient for others. So, maybe, around ten years old Harley is a hyperactive space cadet who’s brilliant at tests but sloppy at coursework, who would be a gymnastics prodigy if she could actually focus on technique and put in practice time instead of fooling around. Then the meds come and it’s actually really cool because she can do the things she needs to do instead of just wanting to do them, doing something else entirely, and getting in trouble. People are proud of her, she’s proud of herself. But now there are expectations. Family and teachers and coaches overschedule her, find worth only in her success and don’t care about her mental health at all as long as she’s performing and castigate her when she does fail. Fuck if you don’t internalize that. But she doesn’t look unhealthy and she’s doing amazing. She actually has to choose between the Olympic trials and continuing her grad studies. She probably has some issues with self-harm but it either doesn’t look like self-harm or is well covered up.

When Arkham accepts her, fresh from her residency, it’s not a mistake. The woman is amazing. All they can see is a mountain of achievements rather than the seething ball of nerves, self-loathing, and imposter syndrome boiling just under the surface. That’s when Joker comes in. He’s got the Hannibal Lecter shtick down. Where everyone else sees an intelligent driven young woman he sees a frightened overwhelmed girl who is working her hardest to convince the world she’s anyone other than herself. Sending her into a nervous breakdown would be too easy so he doesn’t even bother. Instead he’s open with her, almost friendly. The other doctors are amazed, Harley is amazed, she’s not done anything particularly revolutionary but, for the first time in forever, it looks like the clown prince of crime is showing progress. He unravels her and it’s a challenge, she flinches back and gets very serious when he comes too close to the real Harley under the professional. Still, soon she’s questioning everything. She doesn’t even really like her co-workers. She hasn’t had a real friend in years. She’s forgotten how to have fun. Did she ever want this to be her life or did she just do it for other people? It starts so slowly that it looks, at first, like she’s getting better at self-care. Maybe something totally silly one weekend, a trampoline park where she can enjoy the way her toned body moves without stressing out over landings, a face painting booth at a street fair, some garishly colored downright tacky decoration that clashes with her sensible apartment. Suddenly she realizes how much she hates knowing the difference between cream and ecru. The beigeness of her life is repulsive. She hates the person she’s pretending to be even more that she hates herself which is really saying something.

After her weekend of freedom she would have called in sick if it wasn’t so suddenly important to see him. The relief she feels at talking to one of Gotham’s most infamous supercriminals is disturbing but it is relief and she’s been swallowing a slow-motion panic attack for hours. She admits, though she shouldn’t, that she took his advice about doing something fun and he teases her, what would straight-laced Doctor Quinzel do for fun? Did she realphabetize her sock drawer or buy a new clipboard? It’s not important to impress him, it’s really not. He’s dangerous, cruel, and he looks so proud when she admits that she bought a lamp shaped like a lawn flamingo. The only mistake, he says, is that she should have stolen it. She hopes the wicked thrill it gives her doesn’t show on her face. It does. She almost even laughs. He likes it when he can make her laugh and she likes it when he likes things.

It’s wrong and unprofessional, the relationship she develops, and she knows it but her whole life she’s been so high strung. Nothing she’s done has been for her, she’s not sure she knows how to really do selfish things anymore, but he knows the selfish things she needs to do. It feels good when she follows his advice even when it’s small things like the rainbow striped socks she wears concealed under her very bland slacks and sensible shoes. She’s so happy, almost giddy, and he loves her happiness, he loves her, he loves the real her that she’s had to beat down and hide for so long, the her that even she isn’t able to love. She is able to love him, though, and since he loves her she’s able to love herself for him, to protect and nurture something so important to him.

When the choice comes between her old self, the tedious endless labor of making the world proud, and Him, the spectacular man that brought color into her life, it’s not even a question. She kills Doctor Harleen Quinzel, she throws away the version of her that let herself burn just for medals and hollow accolades. She embraces Harley Quinn and it’s so much a part of her nature she can’t even see that she’s still living her life for someone else’s approval, except this time that person is a murderous clown. She hasn’t let her hair down, she’s just put it in pigtails instead of a bun.

I wanted to ask one of the writing advice blogs I follow this but when I actually went through them they all either have a specific theme, don't take asks, or haven't updated in months, so I was wondering if you could help cause I know you've answered questions about writing. I'm writing a story that's main character isn't the hero, as in it's told from the perspective of and focuses on one character but the good guys are led by a separate character who ultimately defeats the antagonist(1/2)

at first I planned to kill off the main character at the end but as I built the story more I kinda gave him things to live for and people who would miss him that I hadn’t really given him originally and now I’m not sure if I should kill him, but if I don’t I’ll have to change the end and I don’t really know how I’d do it. all the advice I ever see about killing characters is how to show how all the other characters deal with it and that’s not really what I need so I thought I’d ask about it(2/2)

I can see why other advice blogs would answer that way! It’d definitely be impactful to see all these connections your MC makes and understand that they’re over when the other character defeats the antagonist.

But, like…I totally don’t ever want to kill my MC. Shout out to those writers who can, but I’ll make them dig up the Fountain of Youth before my MC dies.

So, if I may, I’ll offer some advice from that perspective and hopefully it’ll help!

1) Emphasize the stakes.

Your MC sounds like they’re very close to the fighting. They have to know that they may die at any moment. Give them that panic.

They’ve collected these relationships and reasons to live. What if they realize they didn’t have that before? And that they could lose it all now?

This can work as a type of death–one where the MC realizes that, no matter the ending, they’ll never be the same because of this journey. They could die and they wouldn’t be the person they were when they started. They’d be someone who had something to lose and that hurts. (If that makes sense.)

And even if they live? How the hell are they supposed to go back to the beginning with what they’ve done? With the types of friendship’s they’ve now experienced?

2) Existential Crisis

I actually love that last paragraph so Im giving it its own bullet point.

I love the idea of a character who knows that this isn’t their story. They’re the soldier to the other character’s hero (or spy or friend or villager) and they know it.

Their struggle with their identity can grow to represent the state of the world around them. Say your story is about a country ruled by a tyrant and the MC is a member of the revolution. When they realize that they’re not only inconsequential to the Crown but also to the revolutionaries, they might ask what they’re fighting for. What will they be when the tyrant falls? Still someone ruled by the throne? Or someone different?

They don’t have to be the hero and they don’t have to be a victim of the fight. They can be a symbol for what comes after, something the hero often doesn’t contemplate.

3) Kill them anyway.

Okay, I know I said this would be about keeping them alive, but I do have to chime in on the dead ending.

Rather than showing how the MCs group reacts to their death, let them show the reader how they feel before the final scene. Have them give pre-fight confessions. Let them have the fear of battle. Let them open up.

Then kill the MC. Don’t give their friends individual reactions.

It’s so tempting to let each side character realize what’s happened and react to it! It’s even great to read it!

But holy shit the angst if you don’t and all the reader can see is dried tears and red eyes.

Kill them and finish the story with the grief the other characters feel. Have them report to the hero and have them speak with bitter tones. Let them snap at anyone who asks “was it worth it?” with an of course it was, it has to be, it IS.

Show the reader the impact your MCs death has on the tone of the story. Then you can do an aside of what the MC “would have wanted” by one of their close friends. Or, hell, have them be a spectral ghost during the whole affair.

Honestly, your story sounds amazing, even from the little bit you sent about it!

Sorry if this is rambling, killing a character (or saving them!) is tricky business! I wish you luck and hope even a little bit of this helped!

i'm still in awe at how good sheith is like??? they have such an emotional and heartwarming relationship and have parallels between each season and countless quotes (way more compared to other ships) and you get the sweetness between them but all the angst of keith losing shiro (twice already) and them being separated and their unexplained backstory and there's just SO MUCH to them that it honestly boggles my mind? i don't want to get my hopes up about the possibility of canon sheith but damn

YEAH. purely with what we have in canon already it’s just… //clenches fist. so good. that literally no one–regardless of whether they think it’s romantic–can say they don’t love each other is really incredible for a kid’s action show about robots?

and they’re so healthy and mutually supportive. they talk their shit out, they keep an eye on each other, they give each other space and respect. it’s honestly low-key inspirational. relationship goals, big time.

it’s a really believable relationship because it’s so complex and you can see all these different aspects and insecurities play out in real time within the show.

i mean, i’ve had this tumblr for six years now but i’ve never even remotely cared before. sheith is just that good.

Sally Hemings

Born sometime in February of 1773; a forgotten symbol of oppression. Someone who is only referred to as ‘Thomas Jefferson’s Mistress.’ Someone who is referred to, by the few who know of her, the slave involved in a love scandal between the third president of the United States.

Brushed aside is the fact that she was between 14-16 years old when he, as a 44 year old, forced himself onto her, impregnated her, and only agreed to free the children he sired with her when he feared she would try and gain her freedom while in France. And here is where some people may say she was willing, but since when are people aged 14-16 100% sound of judgement? We’re kids. We do stupid shit without even realizing how dumb it is.

And let’s not forget the fact that she was also his slave. By the laws of those time, she was his property. By the laws of those times, she wasn’t considered anything more than livestock. So, pardon for the crude nature of this following statement, but… Thomas was essentially practicing a period-centric form of bestiality. I do not, by any means, condone treating people as anything less than human, but by period-centric standards what he did was wrong.

It sure as hell is wrong now, even more so. Which is why I get so utterly heartbroken when I don’t see her remembered the way she should be. I know so, so many people, fellow children, who are the Survivors of rape and molestation, who are Survivors of abuse and oppression. I am equal parts grateful and guilty for having been born white, but with it comes a flaming passion to do what’s right. I connected with her story. It’s one I can relate to, so I’m going to take this down out of a historic perspective and put it into a personal, empathetic perspective.

If you have a friend, loved one, a child, a sibling… someone between the ages of 14 through 16, hell, let’s just make it be anyone’s game…

There is a level of heartbreaking pain and disarray that takes hold of a Survivor’s mind. Though it’s different for everyone, it’s kind of like… like you’re ejected from your body. Suddenly, everything around you is pushed into this state of slow-motion. You can’t move even if you try. You can’t cry out, you can’t protest… and even if you could, there’s always that looming threat, if I say anything they’ll kill me.

This is my fault.

What did I do to bring this on?

Silence is all you know. You can’t fight back. You’re forced to submit. But then when it’s all over, if you manage to become a Survivor and not a Victim, then what? You try and reach out to family, to friends around you. Nada. Nothing. You’re told you should have fought back. You’re told you’re overreacting. You’re told you should have fought harder. That if you didn’t fight, you obviously wanted it.

And that’s a stigma that finds its roots in events like these. Criminalizing the Survivors, criticizing Victims. Our nation is founded on it. Brush it to the side, brush it under the rug, don’t let anyone know, don’t let anyone see how weak you are. It’s like trying to find your way out of a dark forest, but the further you stumble into the light the darker and darker it gets and it’s terrifying. You don’t know what to expect, because you can see everything so clearly now but the world is so much darker, so much colder, it’s forcing you to break, to buckle, to bend, until…

What little there was left, is gone. There’s no sympathy left, no attempts to reach out to people anymore. This is the shell left behind. This is the husk of a person that people try to pull on, to form back into shape. Sure, you might get some response. Some flare of emotion, but it’s… wrong. It’s not the same.

It’s this sort of mentality that allows the Monster to keep lurking under your bed. To everyone else, there’s nothing there, but you know better. You know there’s something there. Lurking. Waiting. And so you keep your mouth shut, and you don’t tell anyone until your story becomes clouded, the once pristine water that made up your reflecting pool is now murky, stagnant, swamp-like. There’s maggots drowned on the surface, mosquitoes bred in this steamy, boiling vat of rot.

So yeah. I get a little upset when people think there’s a debate, a “controversy” surrounding Sally Heming’s relationship with Jefferson, because there was no relationship.

It’s a four letter word disguised as love, and it’s not lust, fuck, or kiss.

It’s Rape.

@of-lams-and-stars and I have spoken fondly of this girl with which we’ve grown to adore, to respect, and remember. It is with these thoughts in mind that we’ve decided to give her an honorary birthday, since all we have for her is her birth month and birth year.

FEBRUARY 15TH will be Sally Heming’s honorary birthday, and I’d like it to become a day for victims of abuse, sexual assault, trauma, and oppression to come together. We both desire for her to be remembered as Sally Hemings, a symbol of encouragement to fight back against oppressors. We want her to be something more than Jefferson’s Mistress, Sally Hemings. And there’s no better way to honor and remember her than to make her a symbol of hope, of courage, of vengeance.

Hey love! Listen I was wondering if you can make another alternate ending to the prompt 'Jay leaves Carlos for evie.' Can it be where Harry, umm and Gil come to Auradon. And Harry flirts with Carlos and tries to ask him out and has like this obsession with him. containing Jealous!Jay and Jealous!Evie and them getting all protective. Who know maybe Mal too? Thank you, it doesn't have to be written right away don't stress! Have a nice day! :)

Okay, so I kind of tweaked this prompt a little bit! It’s kind of a mix of the fic you’re talking about and the prompt I gave earlier this week.

Basically, Jay, Mal and Evie are in a relationship and haven’t quite asked Carlos to join them yet and get mighty jealous when Harry makes a move on him.

Rated: PG13

Harry Hook on the Isle was deranged and impulsive and violent. He shoved people into water, stole from anyone, fought with everyone and listened to no one.

Harry Hook in Auradon is…a little less terrifying. He’s rough on the tourney field, snappy and as crude as ever. But he’s not violent. All the time.

So Carlos is really doing his best to give the guy a second chance. Even when Harry stands too close for comfort and puts an uninvited arm around his waist.

He admits the attention is rather…flattering. It’s unusual for someone to pay Carlos so much time and really want to talk to him. But then again, a lot of things have been unusual lately.

Ben brought over more Isle kids, but that wasn’t really that start of anything.

They started their senior year at Auradon Prep, but that wasn’t a big deal.

No, the start was…probably when they all came back from the Isle the second time.

Yep, Carlos nods to himself. That’s when shit changed.

Mal, so panicked and self-conscious of every little thing she did, found comfort in the arms of Jay, who resented his constant urge to steal, and Evie, still nitpicking her own flaws.

But not Carlos. Even when he told Mal that she was beautiful, perfect, that she should only ever try to be herself and, honestly, he loved her like crazy. She had patted his hand, watched him curiously, and genuinely thanked him.

Then she went to Jay and Evie and confided in them. Because, apparently, Carlos’ heartfelt speech wasn’t enough.

It’s not like the three of them are flaunting it. They’re open, but quiet, about their relationship. Evie holds hands with Jay and cuddles with Mal while Jay and Mal kiss in their dorm.

And Carlos awkwardly walks in on that some days.

Whatever. He’s not surprised by it. Evie is breath taking and Mal is stunning and Jay is charm on legs. They’re all wonderful and gorgeous and lovely and deserving of each other.

Carlos is Carlos.

He is…not ugly. No, definitely not ugly, especially with how Lonnie loves to loudly declare how cute he is and even Audrey complimenting his fashion. Carlos is the youngest though, gets put into separate classes form his friends, he struggled the most with being evil.

Special, Evie called him one day, you’re special.

It seemed like a compliment at the time, but Carlos has begun to think that special is just the coded word for different.

But not being surprised is different from not being hurt. Carlos isn’t jumping for joy that the three most important people in his life are fucking and loving and cuddling and caring for each other while he…spies on them sometimes.

Jay’s into the girls and the girls are into him and they’re also into each other and Carlos is just…avoiding his dorm as much as possible.

Which has him in the library with Harry Hook. Again.

Even if his hands are all over Carlos, it’s nice. At least he’s being noticed.

“Come now, love, I’m much more pretty than a book.”

“I dunno. This one has a new, hardback cover.”

Harry chuckles, rests his chin on Carlos’ shoulder. “Ya wound me, dear. Pay me some attention.”

Carlos knows he’s being flirted with. Partly because it’s Harry Hook who flirts as often as Jay does and partly because the physical affection from the pirate is the most he’s gotten in a while.

It’s flattering. It makes him feel…wanted.

But when Harry spins him around, pushes Carlos up against a shelf and leans incredibly close, he feels less hell yeah, someone likes me! and more like oh shit, someone likes me.

Because Harry’s lips are centimeters from his face, strong hands still pushing him into the books. “Ya’ve got to be the prettiest boy I’ve ever seen.”

“Uh. Thanks?”

“Ya’d look so damn pretty without all these clothes on.”

Umm… “Well, that’s rather inappropriate. We’re right in front of the books. We’re not even in the young adult section.”

Harry laughs again, pulls back. “How about mah room then? I can kick Gil out.” He grins, “unless ya prefer he stayed.”

Carlos bites his cheek. He knows about sex, about boys and girls and how everything goes together but he hasn’t had it. He knows that Jay and Evie and Mal fuck each other and that makes him curious and…excited in ways that they probably wouldn’t like.

And Harry’s been nice and kind of sweet lately. He’s built and tall, just like Jay, kind of hot. He’s not getting into Carlos pants here and now, but, maybe, one day…

It could happen.

Not in a library of course. Even his three friends have managed to keep their affections soley in the dorms. If they ever heard Carlos was fooling around in a public area, they wouldn’t believe it. Evie would probably just laugh at the idea.

“Get away from him, Harry.”

Crap. Speak of the devil and she will appear with deathly high heels and a razor sharp eyeliner.

“Oh, relax princess,” Harry drawls, eyes flickering to Evie. “I’m just making him an offer.”

“I don’t think Carlos is interested.” She squirms and turns to Carlos quickly. “Are you?” Evie asks, sick expression on her face.

He is, kind of. At least, Carlos is interested in affection and attention and feeling special. And Harry has been providing that lately.

But in sex?

“It’s not like yar group is appreciating him,” Harry runs a hand down Carlos’ face, cups his cheek gently. “Don’t be pissy because I like him. One crew’s trash is another man’s treasure.”

Okay, ow. He’s definitely not having sex with Harry Hook. Ever.

Even if he did bring up a pretty good point.

“That’s disgusting and disrespectful,” Evie snips, reaches for Carlos.

“I know an abandoned pup when I see one.”

“We didn’t abandon anyone! Carlos is a part of everything we do!”

“He is?”

“I am?”

Evie looks at him and Carlos notes that they’re the same height. She normally towered over him in heels. It’s easier to see her soft expression, her full lips and lovely eyes. It’s not fair for Evie to be as gorgeous as she is. “Of course, you are. Why wouldn’t you be?”

“Because you and Jay and Mal are…”

In love.

Happy without me.

Evie crinkles her brow, sighs softly. She’s close enough that Carlos can smell her perfume. “Come back to my dorm. We need to talk.”

“Ya can swing by my dorm when ya’re done.”

“They are thousands of books in this room,” Evie turns away, holds tightly onto Carlos’ hand, “find one with instructions for being a gentleman!”

They turn out of the library, through the halls and dodging students. After a minute, Evie slows down, huffs quietly. “Sorry. I just… I hated that.”

“Yeah. You’re usually not so confrontational.”

“No, I mean,” Evie sighs. “Harry touching you.” Her hand drops his suddenly. “We thou - I thought that you liked him, but you looked so confused back there. Do you like him?”

Carlos shrugs. “I mean, I guess I like that he’s in Auradon instead of suffering on the Isle.”

“No, I mean…you guys aren’t a thing, right?”

“We’re not having sex.”

“Do you want to?”

Carlos closes his mouth and stares.

“I mean with Harry!” Evie hisses. “Do you want to have sex with Harry?”

“Oh. Uh, no. I don’t…want to have sex with Harry.”

That sick, chilling sensation in his stomach is growing. It started in the library, with the oh-so kind comparison of himself to garbage and Carlos ignored it as best he could. But it’s freezing again, spinning the realization that Harry only ever wanted…

Not Carlos. It was never Carlos he wanted.

“Pup? Are you okay?”

“Yeah,” Carlos swallows heavily. “I thi-. Yeah. I’m fine.”

Evie reaches for his hand again, pulls him along. “You don’t look fine. You look…like how I use to. After talking to my mom.”

He remembers those days. Evie’s broken face, broken heart, broken self-esteem. “I guess I just…” She gets it, Carlos reminds himself, Evie understands this. “I liked someone liking me. Someone wanting me.”

“Oh, Carlos.”

“You and Jay and Mal,” he pulls his hand away, wipes it on his pants. “You guys have your…thing. I get that. I’m happy for you guys. I - I dunno - I wanted something like that too.” He has missed her so much. He misses talking to Evie, confiding in her, being close with her.

She doesn’t reach for him this time, just watches his face even as Carlos stares at the ground in his thoughts.. “Do you still want that?”

It probably won’t happen, Carlos knows. At least not for a while. But he should be grateful for what he has. He still has Jay as a roommate, Evie and Mal when they’re around. He has Dude and friends in Auradon - Ben and Jane and Lonnie and sometimes Audrey and Chad. It’s more than he ever had on the Isle. It’s the most Carlos has had in his life.

Why does he still feel so lonely?

“I guess so. I don’t know when it’ll happen.” When he looks up, Evie is wiping at her eyes, trying to avoid smearing her mascara anymore. “E?”

“We should have had this talk a long time ago and I’m gonna kick their asses for this.”

“Come on, pup.” She holds out her hand, gives Carlos the choice of coming to her, “we gotta talk with the others.”

He grabs her hand and follows.

Evie pushes open the room to her room, where Jay and Mal lay side by side, deep in discussion, facing each other.

Mal lifts her head. “Hey, princess. Wha…” he voice trails off as she looks at Evie and Carlos holding hands. “What’s up?”

“It’s now.”

“No,” Jay says slowly, sitting up, “what abou-.”

“He’s an ass. And I’m going to kill him.”

“Why?” Mal scrambles out of bed, rushing to them. “What did Hook do?”

“Nothing?” Carlos asks rather than answer, squeezing Evie’s hand and looking between the three of them. Something is going on. “He was just…a dick.”

Jay snorts from the bed. “I could have told you that. People who have never met Hook could have told you that.”

“Well we kind of have been too.” Evie huffs.

Mal takes a step back, relieved at the lack of damage she has to do (for now) and sits in her desk chair. “What do you mean?”

“Carlos,” Evie turns to him, holds both of his hands, looks into his eyes. “We have not been the best of friends lately. After everything that happened, it just seemed… Like you didn’t want to be a part of this. You didn’t struggle fitting in like we did and you’re younger than us and we didn’t mean to make you feel unwanted.”

“What?” Jay swings his legs off of Mal’s bed, walks closer. “What made you feel like that?”

It’s hard to speak, his mouth feels so dry and the ice of Harry’s words is still pooling in his stomach. After all these months, he has what he’s been craving and Carlos is faltering under the attention.

“Just say what you said to me a couple of minutes ago,” Evie prompts, squeezes his hand. “What you liked about Harry.”

“You guys all have each other and I…liked that he liked me,” Carlos mumbles. “He made me feel wanted.”

“Like what we have, right?”

Carlos nods at her words, keeps his eyes lowered. This is humiliating. He’s so needy and whiny, he should have kept his problems to himself. Dealt with it alone, not dragged his friends down in all their happiness. He’s weak and self-centered and they’re just gonna isolate him more.

He jumps at the arms around him, stills when Jay hugs him tightly. “I’m sorry, pup,” he mumbles into Carlos’ hair. “We didn’t think you were into stuff like this yet.”

“Like what?” He’s a pretty big fan of love and warmth and acceptance.

“Like relationships and sex.” Jay rests his head on Carlos’ shoulder. “You’re younger, we didn’t think… We thought maybe you would be grossed out by it.”

“Well, I’m not grossed out by it. I have a healthy libido.”

Jay laughs and Carlos feels the vibrations from his chest.

“You’ve never had sex though.”

Carlos turns to Mal. “No. Why?”

“Nothing, that’s fine.” She rises from her chair, moves closer. “We won’t pressure you, that doesn’t change anything.”

“Change what?”

Evie pulls his attention back. “You said you wanted to be a part of this, right Carlos?” He nods and she grins. “We want you to be a part of this too.”

He stares. “…What?”

“Me and Mal and Jay and you.”

He can’t respond before Mal is adding, “we talked about it all the time, but we never thought you’d want to be a part of us.”

Jay finally releases his hug. “We thought you liked Harry. We didn’t want to get in the way of that.”

Carlos swallows. “You’re not… This isn’t some pity thing because I don’t want that.”

No!” Three voices exclaim at once.

Evie grabs his face, forces him to look at her. “We want you. We love you too. We just made our own assumptions and that wasn’t fair to you.”

Mal winds an arm around Evie’s waist. “I don’t do pity.” She reminded harshly. “If I didn’t think you were worth my time, we wouldn’t be extending the offer.”

“We will go totally slow. We’re all still kind of new to this too,” Jay explains, brushing Carlos’ shoulder. “But it’s always been the four of us. It should have been like that since the beginning.”

He leans into Jay out of reaction, so familiar to seek comfort in him even though it’s been so long since Carlos allowed himself to touch his friends. Jay puts an arm around him fully, looks at Carlos with undivided attention. When the smaller teen looks, Evie and Mal are watching him the same way, cuddled into each other.

He’s wanted them for as long as he can remember.

In the silence, in their patience for his answer, Carlos realizes it’s gone. The ice from Harry’s words, the chilling sensation of not being good enough, the fear of being abandoned.

Because Jay’s arm on his shoulders is warm and Evie’s hands on his are gentle and Mal is watching him with pride.

Carlos swallows, leans further into Jay and nods with a smile.

I don't know WHAT it means, or HOW I'm ~supposed to interpret it, but that that they chose THAT to shoot in slo-mo over everything else in the episode/season made me all a;ldkjfa;lsdjfa;lsdjfa;ldskjf

First of all, here’s my (relatively unfounded) theory as to why the bunker stuff was so uneven: Bob said something at a con like “I can’t really speak to that scene very much because what was filmed was different than what they aired” (I’m paraphrasing) and around when Jroth would have been editing that episode (and when he would have been breaking the broad strokes of s5) Isaiah made a salty JAHA OUT post on social media, so I’m thinking the bunker stuff was written to be centered on Clarke reaching a line and crossing it.  If you think about the way scenes were written (as in, the words people said) it was mostly focused on Clarke and how her choice risked damaging her relationships with her mother and Bellamy, but the editing (as in, the way scenes/shots were edited) centered Jaha instead.  So my theory is around the time they edited that episode (411, right?) JRoth decided Jaha wasn’t going to make it very far into s5 and decided to make the bunker decision more about Jaha to give him a bigger role to play in the end of s4, but in order to do that they had to cut some bellarke stuff.  (Not shippy stuff, just emotional fallout).  This pisses me off and I really wanted more on that scene, because it was SUCH a big moment for their relationship.  But on the other hand, with no actual text to guide us, we can headcanon whatever the fuck we want for that scene, so there’s that too.

Okay, so with that out of the way: BELLAMY TURNING HIS BACK ON CLARKE WAS SUCH A GREAT MOMENT.  I’m choosing to read it as Bellamy reaching his Limit with Clarke’s bullshit, but in a very different way from how he hit that same Limit in 305.  In 305, he was fucking furious with Clarke for siding with who he perceived as the enemy, in addition to feeling betrayed by her leaving and not coming back and making him deal with the fallout from Mount Weather, and he just could. not. take. it. anymore.  I think both of them saw that fight in 305 as a possible end of their friendship, and when it wasn’t, that changed things between them– because now they know that literally no matter what, the other person is going to be there for them.  There is a certain freedom in knowing someone will love you no matter what, and while that definitely doesn’t give you the right to do whatever the fuck you want with no consequences, it does allow room for some pretty big mistakes.  So Bellamy turning his back here wasn’t a “I’m done with you forever” moment, it was a “god I am so pissed at you I can’t even deal with you, but give me some time and then we’ll deal with this shit.”  It takes an awful lot of love to reach that point with another human, and while I think that love and trust is what cushioned the fallout from the bunker I do think we needed more than just the teasing conversation in the rover from 412 for them to sort through it.

But think about what the bunker moment meant to both of them emotionally: Bellamy had to face the fact that Clarke might literally kill him, and Clarke had to make a choice between Bellamy’s life and the rest of humanity.  And she chose Bellamy.  Clarke has faced very similar choices before, and she always chose the group over the individual.  I think once she had a chance to process that (after praimfaya) I think the implications of that will hit her like a freight train.  But that also doesn’t make her previous decisions okay in the slightest, and when I think about Clarke at the start of 412 I think about the fact that she kept looking at Bellamy like a puppy with her tail between her legs. That is not a Clarke we see often (or ever, really), and she’s so desperate for his forgiveness it almost hurts to watch.  And I do like how Bellamy gently teases her out of her guilt, even though I really think we were owed another tearful fight while they put on their hazmat suits.  The rover moment felt like the conversation you have after a big fight– it’s the resolution, not the fight itself.

Okay so those are MY rambling thoughts on that scene– now I want to hear YOURS.

So yeah, Digimon Tri Part 5 was…a thing.

And I’ve finally figured out the main thing that was bugging me about this show, and it’s come to a head in this series right here. So here goes…

My friend started talking about how different everything would be if Draco had been Gryffindor and now I just can't get Gryffindor!Draco out of my head. Don't worry, this isn't Slytherin hate, I'm Slytherin through and through, I just think a Gryffindor Draco would be interesting - being rejected by his own family so Molly Weasley accepts him into her brood like she does Harry, and although he's friends with the Golden Trio his best friend is Neville and later Ginny and Luna and just AHHH 💜

I don’t want anyone in my inbox saying “well that could happen if he was in Slytherin too you are stereotyping” because no. Draco’s upbringing and the way he’s treated like royalty in Slytherin wouldn’t make way for any of the following things to happen. Thank you.

Gryffindor!Draco hmm interesting.

  • Draco staying in the same dorm as Harry and Ron
  • being very scared of how his father would react, he has every right to
  • after Walburga’s howler to Sirius many years ago, Lucius’ howler comes in second in the scariest Howler competition
  • Ron writes to his mother to send in two extra Weasley jumpers because neither Draco nor Harry has anyone to send them presents
  • Lucius and Narcissa send Draco presents but Draco knows Narcissa just pushed Lucius to do it
  • Harry and Draco bonding over family issues
  • Draco is aware that his parents are alive but Harry feels like that having parents that don’t care for you is somehow worse
  • Harry and Draco bonding a little too much for Ron’s liking Drarry shippers I see you
  • Draco coming to the Burrow during holidays
  • Arthur Weasley being in complete shock when he sees him the first time because his hair shines the was Lucius’ does and WHY THE HELL IS THERE A MALFOY IN MY HOUSE
  • then it’s just normal to have a black head of hair and a blond one with all the red
  • Draco losing his shit because Molly Weasley cooks for all those people herself, no house elf, no nothing
  • Draco buying Molly Weasley presents because she deserves it
  • Molly crying each time he brings something even if it’s just flowers
  • Molly being an absolute darling to Draco and Draco being flabbergasted by all the kindness she has
  • Ron going to Draco for relationship advice because Harry’s just not good at that department
  • Draco hexing anyone who calls Hermione a Mudblood because she’s just as brilliant if not better than the Purebloods
  • Narcissa secretly thanking Molly every chance she gets because she just can’t get out of the mess she’s in
  • Molly not giving a shit because if she loves her son so much then why doesn’t she just get out? Or treat her beautiful son the way he deserves to be treated?
  • Draco helping Fred and George with their pranks and him lending them money for their merchandise
  • Draco and Dobby getting along the way Regulus and Kreacher did
  • Dobby being sent to Harry in second year as a warning
  • Draco helping save Sirius and giving him somewhere to hide
  • Draco taking Cedric’s death the hardest because he was killed by the monster his father works for
  • Draco cutting his relation with his parents once and for all after that
  • Bellatrix hunting Draco after she gets out because he’s friends with the boy who lived
  • During the battle in the Department of Mysteries, Draco is saved from a curse by Remus Lupin, the man who left the school for being a werewolf
  • Lucius told Draco to stay away from despicable creatures like werewolves
  • him realising everything he was taught by his father is disgusting and wrong
  • Draco being the one who hexed Fenrir Greyback as he was attacking Bill Weasley
  • Draco being a good asset against the fight with Voldemort and him not feeling regret at all
  • Draco having a prize on his head because he’s a blood traitor
  • Draco keeping all these things he is feeling in himself during the war because it’s hard enough without all this messed up feelings
  • Harry whispering “I have to do this alone but thank you for everything” before he leaves for the forest, his heart in his mouth because he would give everything to stay like that forever
  • Draco screaming the hardest when Hagrid comes back with his body
  • Draco fighting all these people he knew since he was a baby with all he had alongside the Order
  • because they killed his Harry
  • and they killed Fred
  • and they killed the man who saved his life and his beautiful wife
  • they killed the other family disappointment right in front of his eyes
  • they killed his aunt’s husband just because he was Muggleborn
  • so he fought and he never gave up
  • when Harry cast that Shielding Charm between Molly and Voldemort, Draco felt blood running in his veins
  • After Voldemort’s defeat Draco distracting people for Harry to get away and then quietly following him with Ron and Hermione by his side
  • Draco and Harry moving into Grimmauld Place,12 for the time being because they both have nowhere to live
  • Narcissa coming to apologise, Draco accepting it because he’s not one to hold grudges
  • Harry being extremely protective over him
  • them bonding over their trauma from the war
  • Hermione going “For goodness sake, finally” when they kiss. Harry’s the one to tell her.
  • Ron going “It took you long enough” when they kiss. Draco’s the one to tell him.
  • Ron and Draco’s bromance.
  • Draco and Harry’s love.
  • and as you can see I can’t stop, wait one last thing
  • them raising Teddy Lupin who’s a bad ass Hufflepuff
  • Draco telling stories about Remus and Tonks to Teddy
  • them wanting kids so they resort to having surrogate mothers
  • guess who?
  • Ginny and Luna gladly helping
  • I’m stopping sorry got a bit carried away

How after the mixtape are Dean and Cas' romantic feelings not considered canon? That shit was not subtext and even if you disregard the Mary and John Led Zepplin connection, mixtapes are almost exclusively romantic in fiction not to mention the whole returning one as a break up and framing of the scene. I just don't understand how even to the GA that was ambiguous. Honestly these moving goalposts are very confusing to me. Aside from PR not mentioning it I don't get what more the show needs (1/2)

to do, to establish that yes it’s written as romantic but that they are not in the being together stage. We don’t know what will happen in the future but to me 12x19 pretty clearly showed that at least at that point in their relationship, that’s where they were at. I wondered if you had any thoughts on it because it’s been nagging at me for a while? (2/2)

I mean, yeah, I have a LOT of thoughts about it because it was a sea change in the way Destiel presented, for me. There’s been MULTIPLE moments which took it up another notch, at pretty regularly spaced intervals through the show. I know my personal limit, when bingewatching 4-6 for the first time after an unintentional break from the show, was 6x20. Everyone who got into the ship without being prompted has a a moment along the way, whether it was considering all the ship teasing seriously, or thinking something about the narrative, or whatever, got to that moment where they actually hit the goalposts and started taking it seriously.

I think several of the past moments that I find really important are also statements of intent - 9x18 for me was when I went from casual viewer and while I believed in Destiel I also saw it entirely as a subtextual creation that was not sort of… for serious consideration as a narrative tool/character endgame the show would ever even nod towards at the end of the day… to definitely thinking they were at the very least intentionally building their story with these blocks, and that it was worth investigating and exploring… That was Metatron asking us to consider the subtext and how it was a part of the story. That it wasn’t something that passes by like that but that there is an awareness and that it can and will give the story meaning. The episode being so full of strong Destiel subtext, it put me firmly where I am now in meta fandom with an overnight transformation >.>

And 10x05 was the other one where there was a serious goalpost, where “Destiel” was said in text and a pseudo Destiel depiction happened on screen… To whatever degree it was jokey or wish fulfilment or could be interpreted this way and that as a statement to how Destiel stood in the text, it gave it a weight and presence it hadn’t had before. Even though fans had had a name for it all along, there’s something very important about naming the thing within the story and even having Sam sound out different versions of the name with pedantic detail. Between that and “I’ll just wait here then” it really established Destiel in the subtextual building blocks of the show in a fascinatingly meta way.

Then for all the random canon events of maybe extreme shippiness, it was 12x19 that for me was a real SHIFT when it came to perceptions and presentation in the story, because of course even on the surface level it’s an extremely romantic trope to give a mixtape, and ignoring all the other analysis of the scene which only makes it worse, it betrays an enormous amount of emotion and care between Dean and Cas, in a way that’s coded strongly to our cultural perceptions as a romantic gesture having passed between them. Which means it’s another goal scored when it comes to… upping the ante of not-quite-canon-ness?

I sort of feel like Cas’s death and return and all the connected stuff from the moment he’s stabbed through Dean saying “I do” and hugging him under the romeo+juliet glowing neon cross was either a further upping of the ante, or just showing us how to play in the rules which now exist post-mixtape, where this is the level of implied canon it’s at now…

I mean I honestly keep saying and I mean it that pretty much since the mixtape or 12x23 I’ve been quite lost about how to handle Destiel in the sense that these were goalposts I didn’t even know I would expect the show to meet, or that if they did it would be the implied canon ending of the show where it gives us an equivalent gesture and leaves us to wonder what it was about. Instead it happens at this point and we’ve got over a season of Dean n Cas portrayed as exasperated husbands and all my interest and expertise in lawyering subtext to prove how gay it is has been left behind in its wake, so I’m just here to enjoy myself and see how it pans out now, because I set my own personal goalposts of what I assumed the show would do much lower than what Dabb set? Like, the reverse problem of people who keep moving them rather than examine the subtext and see what it says fairly without trying to lawyer their way out of what all these implications are instead. :P

But at least the mixtape made it very clear to me that you can now sort out the people who will NEVER accept something as good enough proof that the show even has romantic subtext for Dean n Cas and refuse to understand why people see it or ship it. To discount that entire conversation and the clearly expressed feelings of concern for each other, regardless of shipping, in order to claim that they don’t mean that much to each other and it’s ooc to suggest otherwise, means they’re doing the harder work when it comes to interpretation and THAT is a flipping of the stances from pre-mixtape where plausible deniability and doubt and stuff all mixed together to make it at least an awkward sell to people who hadn’t thought of it that way yet, and empowered people who wilfully didn’t want to see it.

The Cas death arc just gave us more fodder for where shippers do less work than people who actively want to deny that Dean cares.

But for general audiences, I think it’s quite easy to get stuck at the stage where I was pre-9x18 where Dean n Cas might even seem to be somewhat a ~confirmed couple~ except that people will lend it no credit to intent or their importance to each other in the emotional endgame, just for reasons of it not being done, or not thinking it’s possible, or in general not putting in the attention and time to piece together the relationship that a definitive canon statement would cause them to do a double take on. And that even if they then say they knew it all along, because many of these goalposts are unmissable in some senses, the credibility lent to the ship is fully missable without knowing to give it. Which is the whole problem, really.

I’ve known the show long enough to feel its old school bones pretty deeply so I feel like that affects my personal perspective on… owedness of canon or where I started to take it seriously, and how much of the old gods of TV vs new gods possibility I would casually see in its genetic makeup. So 12x19 - being written by the new gods of TV - took the show a step further as Dabb seems to be the first showrunner of that generation of TV writers vs the ones who would play the subtext game forever - and that’s really unsettling to me. In the sense that there’s some sort of storytelling subversion thing going on here and my understanding is still kinda maybe rooted in an older postmodern take than what might end up being labelled something entirely new by future scholars… And a lot of that to me is in expectations and tropes no longer being what they were and I end up thinking of all the factors from the mass-saturation of media vs everything having to be new and individual to be considered worthy, to the effect of the internet, and the political climate in America, and the world the younger millennial writers grew up in (and we can see that literally warring with Buckleming’s old school writing in the show), and not just storytelling but representation of all walks of marginalised life coming into it, and it’s all a bunch of stuff that probably soon there’ll be a bunch of interesting scholarship on, but in the mean time we’re all riding the wave and in my personal experience I feel like we don’t even know what our surfboards are any more.

I mean 12x23 seriously knocked me into orbit when it came to my understanding of the show, and I haven’t recovered yet. And since I spend a lot of time over-thinking as a matter of course, this is a tiny percentage of the ridiculous musings I have on it all and why I can’t just get mad at it for goalpost issues, and why I feel people lag behind and stuff. I feel like WE are lagging behind, even the people who claim to know everything about the show and analyse it all the time, and the best we can do is take it as it comes and see… But this is very much an utter fascination with watching Dabb era shed Carver era’s subtext cocoon and start testing its bizarre, mirrored, fractal wings.

Hi! I'm sorry, you seem like a nice person and all, but don't you see how your URL is a quote of an abusers threat, and how spreading that is entirely a bad example for impressionable kids, abuse survivors, unstable toxic relationships etc? I'd genuinely like to know how you see this/excuse it

This is gonna be loooong, so buckle up kids.

First of all, I️ don’t excuse abuse.

I’ve been through actual abuse, love, and this is NOT abuse. Sure, it’s unhealthy at times, but it’s a FICTIONAL SPACE OPERA, between TWO ENEMIES ON OPPOSITE SIDES OF A WAR.

There’s this kind of relationship dynamic in GOT, in The Tudors, in the fucking telenovelas I️ see on TV. Hell, even the Kardashians.

That being said, where the fuck is Kylo ‘abusing’ Rey? Y’all throw around this word like you know what it means but I️ don’t think you do…

You seem like someone who isn't new to fandom and I have to ask: have you ever had the experience of seeing a large chunk of a show's fanbase actively campaign against a spinoff? i.e. is what's going down with The Blacklist a unique case?

Jokes aside, yes, to me it is rather unique, anon, because TBL/R is a unique creative catastrophe. More rambling and complaining behind the cut, as usual:

You think MikaYuu will actually be canon? People always says "it won't be canon 'cause OnS is a shonen" or "it won't be canon 'cause OnS is written by a male" but I really don't think these are valid arguments. (love your blog. sorry for bad english)

Those arguments are silly. There’re actual shonen mangas with LGBT characters.

Yu Yu Hakusho was a shounen, written by a man and has gay characters and in HxH it’s kind of hinted that killugon is a thing too, because Togashi supports LGBT.

Shingeki no Kyojin has Ymir and Historia too, and it’s written by a man.

At the very least, Shonen jump might not want it to be canon but *shrugs* then all he would have to do is not pair them with someone else and hint at mika/yuu. (Like korrasami)

Bad arguments made by people with low-quality thought processes tbh.

Asexual Derek Hale, Sterek-style

Sterek fandom is so active and expansive that it’s hard to not find what you’re looking for, no matter what specific kinds of tropes/characterizations/headcanons you’re into. One that I’ve always wished for more of, though, is ace!Derek. While my personal headcanon is more in line with demisexuality, I think that asexuality is (a) an interesting and realistic choice for his character and (b) something that’s simply not explored enough in general, particularly in the healthy, happy, monogamous context.

I’ve been meaning to compile and post this list for a while, so here are ten lovely monogamous Sterek fics with ace!Derek. Because how can you resist Stiles loving and committing to a Derek who doesn’t see sex as the ultimate conclusion to a healthy relationship?

(More complete explanation of why I created this list, if you’re interested.)

Title: Ten Years
@jentnova (tumblr fic)

Summary: Derek spends the afternoon in the kitchen with Stiles, bickering about everything from seasoning to dessert, and Derek’s going to miss that. Stiles puts a hand on his hip at one point and says it’s only a month and Derek nods, tries for a smile.

They’ve been living together for four years and sharing a bed for two and never once has Stiles asked him for something he can’t give. Derek can let him do this. He knows Stiles will be back.

Title: I’m Not Gonna Wait Until The Winter (I’m Just Gonna Wait Until The Springtime)
Word Count: 7,382
Published: 2012-11-21
Rating: Mature

Summary: Stiles’ grin splits his face and lights up his eyes and Derek feels his heart stutter in his chest. Jesus Christ.

“Any time, dude,” Stiles says. “Well. Any time within reason. Especially on school nights.”

Stiles is gone with that, to sneak back into his house, and Derek’s left with a realisation settling deep into his bones.

When the hell did he find time to start falling for Stiles?

Summary: “Uh, don’t take this the wrong way,” Stiles says the first time– the hopefully only time– Derek kisses him, “but I’m not into you. Like, yeah, your body is hot and all, but your personality kinda is not and I’m the sort of guy that, well,” he shrugs, a rueful smile on his face. “It’s called demisexual. Look it up.” And then he bites his lower lip, grabs his backpack and hightails it out of there, leaving Derek alone, his hands clenched helplessly into fists at his sides.

Title: I Surrender To The Strawberry Ice Cream

Summary: So it’s trope fic; the trope is accidentally married. Stiles has moved in with a werewolf and his dad wants to know when he’s getting grandkids and Stiles and Derek haven’t even had sex. At least partially because Stiles never got around to asking what exactly their relationship is.

“Nearly seven.”

“Shit, really? Well, he’s obviously the longest relationship you’ve ever had - was it a shock when your desperate, wanton lust for each other started to die down?”

Stiles laughs. “Erica, Derek and I don’t have sex.”

“Yeah, pull the other one.”

“We don’t!”

Stiles has never seen so many jaws drop at once. “What?

What’s coming ahead “My thoughts”

I quoted here a few times the theory that management could make the fandom believe that Camren was real one day and that now is no longer. I thought the management would leak some photo suspected of them (and maybe this still happens) but it seems that the management found a more subtle way of stating this without creating too much noise. Who’s in the fandom from the beginning knows how much Chelsea has become the co-captain of this boat, her words literally weigh heavily on Camren’s fans, so what she says will have credibility. In the first place she did not have to answer anything, could have given a like, but besides giving a retweet, she responded to the CS’s knowing the importance that its presence has in the fandom. Two things caught my attention this time and again, it’s just my theory my friends.

1. Chelsea quoted that Camren was long ago, and that we were all very young and how time went by fast. For me in that sentence she affirms Camren as something that was real, past, but that today no longer exists.

Second, she cites how much Lauren grew up not to be affected by the “offenses” of the people who invaded her privacy. That last time she checked with them everything was ok. This part has a double meaning for me: Chelsea at some point may actually have verified this with them, obviously in private and I believe that both really do not call it over after all this time, on the other hand, this can be interpreted as “contempt "by Lauren, because she did not give a damn about it anymore. Of course for me it will always be the first choice lol

Then we have the cake cherry with all this mess created with your retweet. Chelsea claims that both Lauren and Camila are in a wonderful relationship and doing well in their careers. But wait! Was not Chelsea itself pronounced against the guru just after the guru’s "betrayal” appeared in the middle of the fandom? Now does she praise for Camila being in a wonderful relationship?

Okay, in the next sentence we have the purpose of your little interaction with fandom: kill the last drops of hope on Camren. “People need to stop making noise about it all, let them live …” Which reminds me of one of EL’s last asks before she leaves again. “… They just want to be free, let’s respect their privacy from now on …” EL was asking us to stop tagging them or do something that could make the things worses to them, and Chelsea was asking to us don’t take this like a real thing anymore. We can see the difference between of two sentences, what’s the real intention with that!!!

EL said that the management would use Camren for his own benefit as a PR, but for me this does not necessarily have to be a couple, because it would not make the slightest sense to spend a lot of money hiding Camila’s sexuality during all those years and then “ lose” its greatest asset in making money overnight. I may be hallucinating about it, but as I always say, no one has to agree with my thoughts.

My theory is that management will increase our anxiety about rapprochement with them in some relevant event, (I bet on the jingles balls) and show off in front of the cameras how much they have become friends again. I also do not doubt that we can see the two PRs side by side in one of these events, it would be almost the end of Camren in the eyes of all the fandom who still have their doubts that their relationships are pure marketing.

Whatever it is, I hope my girls stay strong enough and get through all those barriers. As for us, we are going strong and strong in our boat, the storms can be difficult, but our perseverance must be greater my friends.

Ahh, and for those who are attacking Chelsea because of this shit, stop being stupid!!! 😉

And then, she explains again her retweet 😎

i have an issue

Okay, so I think we knew that this is Endeavor Redemption Arc was comin for a while now. Lot of us don’t like it, some do. I feel like I’m the type of person who’s like “FUCK ENDEAVOR HE’S TRASH” because I feel like he doesn’t really deserve to redeem himself as a hero externally because I know he’s not one internally (i.e. behaviors/relationships with his family, jealousy of all might) but let’s move swiftly along..

and clearly in this first panel, we see that natsuo is on the same page as me. maybe not as aggressive as me but you know what I mean. natsuo is relaying this info to his mom for a reason, as a reminder that his hero status and his personality will never be rectified

and as the one who probably went through the most abuse (rei), he’s essentially saying that she should not be swayed by his success. he’s also implying that endeavor does feel some guilt (“he doesn’t appear on talk shows”). originally, I thought that was because endeavor was a closed-off asshole, but maybe it’s to avoid any and all questions about his family because he knows what he did but the world doesn’t

also, the fact that rei has been in the hospital for 10 years is fucking wild. i really don’t want to believe in my heart that endeavor just dropped his wife and mother of his children in a hospital to rot for 10 years in isolation but unfortunately that was the reality and it makes me sick. I’m sure his external reason was “well she burned my son so she’s insane she needs help” but internally is was probably “this woman ruined my one chance to have an aesthetically perfect offspring”. I feel like this is very much possible because of previous chapters expressing endeavor’s obsession with producing a perfect kid with a perfect quirk. also it’s very obvious (thanks to natsuo) that endeavor wanted to forget about rei hence putting her in a space where he couldn’t see her would help with that guilt.

natsuo continues to backup his reason for never forgiving endeavor in a bullet point list:

  • terrible treatment to us (kids)
  • terrible treatment to you (rei)
  • non-existent behavior towards rei and shouto
  • never apologised for his actions

I personally feel like natsuo’s feelings are completely justified because everything he said is true. He witnessed this shit first hand and he knows that endeavor is leaving his family behind in order to escape from his past actions.

when rei says “that’s wrong” - this fucks me all the way up. even after natsuo just said all that stuff, rei is essentially like “I understand what you’re saying, but he’s different BECAUSE OF A FLOWER

here’s where the argument for the relationship between women and victimization comes in. in many stereotypical cisgender storylines, the woman gets hurt by the man. the man tries to redeem himself by giving a trash reason, gift, etc. the woman interprets said reason, gift, etc. as an opportunity to forgive all the man’s wrongdoings and they fall back in love or whatever the fuck.

essentially this is what horikoshi is setting up. rei, because even though she’s been through the worst, she can see the light of hope inside of endeavor and the flower and secret visits is proof, therefore making her the outsider opinion (in theory) in her own family. everybody knows that the kids don’t like or trust endeavor, yet rei is the one outwardly disagreeing with natsuo because of endeavor’s actions currently. Like she’s willingly ready to forget everything he did and move on like none of that shit was traumatizing in the least. I think all of this is happening for the wrong reasons. we see the signs “I’m too afraid to face him” “my doctor thought it was a bad idea”

So why attempt to rekindle the relationship now in light of all these things?? her own children are shocked to the fact that endeavor would visit their mom because they know he’s not that kind of person!

but no, ever since a couple chapters ago, when he had his fucking epiphany did he realize that maybe he should start treating his family better when he had to step up to the plate to be #1 hero.

but it’s too late for that shit, bro. the reason this redemption arc gets me so hurt is because we know endeavor don’t deserve that shit and now the one person (rei) who should be the most angry and sad at him, is not. so now it’s like a weird twisted justification that makes everything okay but it doesn’t.

now this whole “just watch me” phrase is the center of endeavor’s redemption because now it’s a message to not just the world or hero society, but his family too (according to the last panel).
