Sufjan’s cover of “Space Oddity” isn’t like, some revelatory interpretation of the song, but I’m sure it’s not meant to be–I love this whole trend of him ending concerts by playing a straightforward cover of a song the whole crowd is familiar with. It’s like to close out the night everyone gets this joyful moment that is not just about us watching the artist but more like us enjoying something with the artist. Being surprised with that cover of Prince’s “Kiss,” even as haphazard as it was (watching Sufjan blank on the lyrics was probably at least as entertaining as it would’ve been had he gotten them right), was one of the absolute best moments of seeing Sufjan at Pitchfork. We had SO much fun.
*waiting for the yuri on stage fanfictions* 😏😏 (not a request)
