4 tips for getting ahead after falling behind

So ‘it’ happened. You got sick, you scheduled too much at once, you had a bad day (or week). We’ve all been there and it sucks. And now you’re behind and you’re feeling overwhelmed. These are just a few tips I have for getting back on track (and hopefully ahead) after falling behind.

  • If you are behind on homework it’s time to prioritize. You’re at a point where it might be worth it to let the tiny assignments that aren’t worth very much sit on the back burner until you’ve dealt with the important stuff. So what are your priorities?
    • Do you have work in a class that you’re doing really well in and you feel like you can set it aside and hand it in late, or you can afford to miss the assignment without screwing up your final grade? Great, set it aside and leave that stress for later.
    • Do you have work in a class you’re terrified of failing? Okay, focus in on that. If you don’t eliminate the chief point of stress first you’re going to find it very hard to focus on anything else.
  • Do you have exams coming up that you haven’t studied for? This is rough but you need to decide whether sleep or studying is better for you. There’s no wrong choice here; it’s different for everyone. I am a ‘needs sleep’ person but my roommate is a ‘stay up and get shit done’ person. If you know you can’t function without a decent amount of sleep then ixnay the idea of an all night all together.
    •  Now that you’ve figured that out it’s time to focus; what topics are you doing the worst in? Get started on figuring out what it is you don’t know.
    • Also make sure to write down what you do know and keep looking over that constantly so you don’t lose the knowledge you already have.
    • Now figure out what methods you actually have time for; if you’re in a crunch you may not have time for flashcards. I find that when it a crunch it’s helpful to essentially begin compiling a cheat sheet.
    • Write down everything you could possibly need for the exam as though you were going to be able to take it into the exam. Make it clear! Make it easy to glance at! Don’t waist time on making it look pretty!
    • As you go through creating the sheet make sure that you would know what kind of problem or topic that the concept/formula would go with and how you would use it to solve a problem.
    • The above means that you aren’t just copying over formulas, dates, quotes, etc.; You are committing the CONTEXT to your memory and if need be to your sheet.
  •  Is the problem reading? Heaven knows that’s been mine this week! First thing first: READ for the NEXT class. Don’t start with what you should’ve read last week; playing catch up is stressful and means that you may do a ton of work and still not be prepared for the next class.
    •  If you come across parts that don’t make sense because you haven’t read the earlier stuff skip back and skim those bits.
    • Once you’ve read for the next class you can decide what the best option is for continuing.
    • Either start at the back end of what you’re behind on or work your way backwards.
  • Is it an essay? Is it more than one? Okie doke. Break those kiddos down into the sections you think you need; intro, para 1, para 2, etc, conclusion.
    • Alright, now give those sections titles and maybe like a brief summary.
    • Okay now you’re ready; pick one section from one of your papers to start on. It doesn’t have to be the intro you just need to get started. I like to start with ones that require a bit of research on my part so that I can really get the ball rolling and start collecting articles.
    • Then you should either set a timer for about thirty minutes and switch off every time the timer goes off, or (my preferred method) write until you finish the section before deciding which one to work on next.
    • The real key is making sure that you change sections when you find yourself losing steam even if it’s in the middle of a sentence. Sometimes I start a sentence and then forget where I was going with it and it throws off the whole game so by changing sections you allow yourself to refresh and come back with new eyes.

That’s what I’ve got for now, I hope that some of this helps. I also want to remind you that you are not a bad person for getting behind whatever the reason was. Sometimes it happens even when you’re paying attention so try not to worry too much about it! If you find yourself getting overwhelmed and way too stressed out remember to let yourself breath and walk away for a few minutes. I wish you the best of luck and my ask/messenger is always open if you need anything.

“He definitely did it.” Jinyoung said nonchalantly.

“Ok, I know you’ve been right for the last five episodes, but it isn’t always going to be the husband or boyfriend.” As any couple would spend their evening together, you and Jinyoung and you were watching a Swamp Murders rerun on the TV. The lights were switched off and Jinyoung had tossed a blanket over both of your laps to keep warm.

Tips on Writing a Research Paper

As I usually state in my posts this is just what I do to make the process easier, it is not going to work for everyone.  This is the process I use when writing a paper (yes it takes some time to do the organizing part, but I have found that writing is much less daunting when done in this way).  Start your paper as early as you can.  Usually, since I suffer from A-motivational syndrome as well, do your paper piece by piece and it will seem less daunting and stressful.

1.)  Review your syllabus:  Look for requirements including page number requirements, paper format (APA vs. MLA), number of resources needed, what type of information to include, and list any questions you have regarding the paper.  If you have any questions, ask your teacher MONTHS BEFORE it is due.  You do not want to be stuck writing your paper with no direction and waiting on a response from your teacher the night before it is due.

2.)  Identify your topic:  Get a simple, basic idea for the topic of your paper.  Have some idea of what you want, but be open-minded to changing it as you do your research and find more information.

3.) Searching for Sources:  I always start the writing process for a research paper with actually finding the sources I want to use.  If you start your paper and then look for sources, you may find yourself changing various aspects of your paper and having to eliminate some of the previous work you’ve done.  By doing your research fist, you can give yourself direction on where you want to go with your paper and get ideas of various things you can include in your paper.  I will do another post on finding sources in the future, but there are tons of studyspo blogs that have this information.

4.) Type your notes:  I know that some people love taking hand-written notes when doing research, if you prefer this then I guess you could write then type it out.  I found it easier to type because a) I type fast than I write and b) some PDF files and other sources allow you to copy the quote you want to use and paste it into a word document so you don’t have to type it out.

5.)    Format: (title – citation – each quote followed by in-text citation)  For each source I find, I format it in the word document in the following way:

Title of the Article/Source – Author

Citation (done in MLA or APA format depending on requirements)

           “First Quote” (Author(s), Page Number)

           “Second Quote” (Author(s), Page Number)

I do it in the above way with (Author(s), Page Number) because usually my papers are supposed to be in APA format.  This way, it is quoted and cited in a way that I can copy and paste it into my paper where I need it and it is already cited in the proper way for in text citations.

6.) Note page numbers: It is so much easier to note the page numbers as you are taking notes (whether it be hand written or typed).  Trust me, if you have 15 sources and don’t note the page numbers as you take notes you will spend hours searching through your previously read research trying to find a page number just to cite it properly and it will be frustrating.  It is much easier to just quickly note it in case you use it later.

7.) Assign a color to each different source:  I do this so that the next few steps are easier.  You will see in a minute as you continue reading that I combine my research by topic, so keeping it color coded allows me to know which source it originally came from.  I am a visual learner, if you are too this step can help you tremendously.  If you aren’t a visual learner and you find this step to be futile, then feel free to skip it.  (I’ve included pictures below, but in this paper did not color-code as I was unfortunately racing against a time limit).

8.) Open another word document

9.) Outline: Now that you have done your research and notated your sources, it is time to start an outline of your paper.  Personally, I find it easier to outline my paper by paragraph or by topic (sometimes each topic will need to be broken into 2 paragraphs).  This is an example of how I do it:

       I. Introduction:

       II. “Topic 1”:

III. “Topic 2”: (and so on with as many paragraphs/topics you have)

       IV.  Conclusion:

After each “topic” I have sub-points of what information I want to include in that specific topic/paragraph.

10.) Copy and paste: Now that you have an outline, open both word documents and line them up so that they are side-by-side so that you can see both documents.  Below I have included a screenshot of a previous paper that I have done and how I set it up.  Go through your notes and copy and paste each quote under the topic you want it to be included in in your final paper.  You can also see an example of this in the screenshot if this is confusing.

11.) Add any more points you want to add:  If there is more information you want to touch on in a specific topic, make a brief bullet point of the information you want to add.

12.) You are now ready to begin writing!!:  Start typing, I usually do this under the list of bullet points in the outline.  By doing this you will not be totally concerned about your page/word limit while you are composing your paper (which I feel adds so much unneeded stress).  As I write each paragraph, I include the quotes noted.  As I include the quotes I use the “strikeout” font in word to remind myself that I used it already.  Once I have written all of my paragraphs, I copy and paste them into a third word document (your final paper) in the order that I want them to be in, then fix the formatting (double spaced, 12 inch, times new roman, etc.).  If you are under the word limit you can then read through your paper and add information where needed, or you can identify a part of your paper where you can add a new paragraph and explain something further.  If you are over the word limit, congratulations, just take out the information that is the least necessary.

13.) Avoid Fluff: No one likes to read useless information.  Don’t waste your time or your professors time.  If you find yourself “fluffing up” your paper to reach a word/page number limit go back, rethink your subtopics, and do some more research. Including fluff usually means that you need to go into more detail or have more subtopics instead of repeatedly explaining the same thing over and over and simplifying something you already said.

Summer Surprise

Your name: submit What is this?

Sliding into a seat towards the back you pulled out your notebook.  You’d had this professor before and knew he expected participation, but on the first day of summer classes you didn’t feel being front and center was necessary.  The summer session would lead into your final year at Boston College before graduation and an easier class load from credits received.  A couple familiar faces nodded towards you as they entered the lecture hall but it remained silent in the room.

The chair to your left gave a small screech as it was pulled out gaining your attention.  You would have thought the boy was a freshman by his young looks, but since this was a 300 level class you knew better.  He had dark hair in need of a trim sticking out from under the bill of his baseball cap and wide brown eyes which stared back at you.  The boy gave you a half smile as he dropped himself into the seat.  Taking a final glance in his direction you noticed the logo on his shirt and hat.  A capital C with fire, it looked familiar but you couldn’t quite place it.  The professor entered the room after that and all your attention was absorbed in taking notes.

The two and a half hours seemed to go by quickly, but you knew it wasn’t going to stay this way for the next three weeks.  You headed back to your apartment after class ready for a quiet day of working on the reading already assigned.

“Aurora, you home?” You greeted your roommate as you pulled your key from the door.

“In the living room.” She answered.  She was already sprawled across the couch acting like she was doing school work but actually watching NHL Network.  She was born and bred in Nashville making her Predators pride something to see.  It was the playoffs currently and all day long she talked strategy, players and opponents.  You supported her team as well, even if you were more of a baseball girl.  “How was class?” She asked sitting up so you could join her on the couch.

“I’m already glad I took the condensed version of Law of Mass Communication.” You said leaning into the soft cushions.  “What’s new with your team today?” You asked looking over to her.

“Not much, they are just comparing Pekka and Jake Allen, the Blues goalie, with their performance last game, and talking about tomorrow’s game.” She answered you.  You turned your attention to the highlights on the screen.   You had only been paying attention for a few minutes when the logo you half recognized earlier came onto the screen.

“Hey, what team is that the logo of?  The C and fire one.” You questioned looking towards Aurora.

“That’s the Calgary Flames.” She looked back at you as if asking why you were inquiring.

“Are they in the playoffs?  The boy who sat next to me in class today had their logo on his shirt.” You responded.

“No, they missed the playoffs this year.  They have a lot of up and coming players though, should be a good time to cheer for them in a couple of seasons.”  She said.

The two of you spent the rest of the afternoon getting back into the swing of school work and taking short breaks to watch Predators coverage.  The evening consisted of dinner in front of the television to watch other teams in their quest for the cup.

As the buzzer sounded crowning the Capitals winners you stood from the couch.  “I’m off to bed, class is too early in the morning, love you.” You said waving as you headed down the hall.

“Night, Love you.” Aurora sleepily replied as you retreated.

The next morning saw you eating cereal from the box while scrolling through twitter on your phone.  Aurora came bounding in waving something in front of your face.  “You promised!” she yelled.  You grabbed the bright yellow jersey from her.  She had already donned her white Shea Weber jersey before leaving her room.

“All day?” Was the only response you could muster as you pulled it over your head.

“Of course!  You headed out soon?  We could walk to campus together.” She said pulling an apple from the refrigerator.

“Sounds like a plan, let me go get my backpack.” You answered.  At least you wouldn’t have to worry about motorists seeing you; the space station could probably see the jerseys.  You said goodbye to Aurora at the communications building as she continued on to the science one.

You chose the same seat as the previous day, getting situated for class.  The same boy sat next to you for the day as well.  Looking at him you noticed the Flames logo again.

“Sorry about your team.” You informedhim giving him a smile.  His face full of surprise and what you guessed was stunned silence occurred next.

“Uhh….”Was all you received back.

“You like the flames correct?  That’s the logo?  I didn’t get it wrong.” You said, worried you messed it up some way.  His cheeks had gained color quite quickly the last minute or so.

“Uh…Yes.” His reply was a little bit squeakier than you had expected.  You nodded at him turning back to your notebook; it was silent for several moments before he continued.

“Fan you are Predators of?  Uh…you’re a Predators fan.” You heard, turning your head slightly you saw him pointing to your jersey.

“My roommate’s a huge Preds fan, she made me wear this last game and he had a hat trick so I now have to wear it the rest of the playoffs, superstitions and everything” You said pulling on the Roman Josi jersey lightly.  “I’m Y/N by the way.” You added.

“Johnny.” He responded simply.  The professor began his PowerPoint after that.

You were assigned a partner research paper at the end of class and Johnny had asked if you would be interested in working with him.  After affirming him the two of you decided on getting lunch together in the commons to discuss the division of work.

“Do you want the introduction or conclusion?”  You asked looking up from your sandwich.

“Intro if it’s fine with you, that way you can wrap it all up.” He responded looking further into his notebook.

“Sure.” You said taking a final few notes before closing the notebook.  “Want my number?  We can text each other if we need anything or find something useful for the others part.” You said pulling your phone out.

“Okay.” Johnny handed you his phone while taking yours.  You split up shortly after that each saying what you would get done by the next day.  Instead of heading back to the apartment you headed to the library, deciding an afternoon of accomplishment would be good.

“When you coming home?  I need support now.  Win and go to finals tonight, freaking out.  THE FINALS!!” Aurora’s text pinged in your ears as your music paused.

Tapping on the case you thought of the message you were going to key.  “Give me another hour and then I’m yours for the night.  Paper assigned in class, working on research.” You replied before going back to the book you were flipping through.  The responding message you received a moment later made you laugh slightly too loud for a library.

“You and Me babe, you and me.” Was keyed with a photo of Weber and Josi celebrating on the ice.

A while later you decided to call it quits for the day.  Aurora’s boredom became her sending you pictures constantly of a stuffed black sheep with Josi and other people.  You had no idea what it meant but knew she wouldn’t stop until you were back at the apartment.

“I’m not ready for this game.” Was how you were greeted opening the door.

“We not watching it then?” You asked walking down towards the living room.  Aurora was in a similar position as the previous day, although her Predators blanket was thrown over her today.

“Yes we are watching the game.” She said holding up part of the blanket so you could slide under it as well.

“What was up with the sheep pictures?” You asked, really needing to know why you were sent six separate pictures of it.

“That’s their sheep, the boys are fighting over who gets to keep it.”  She said as if it was perfectly normal.  She started in on a longer explanation and you closed your eyes while listening, but you drifted off to sleep before truly understanding the situation.

“No, we had pizza during last game, so pizza is required tonight.” Was the current situation as pregame started on the television.

“Is this a superstition too?” You were starting to think she would call everything a superstition if it occurred on game day.

“Yes, now hand me my phone so it gets here before the game starts.” Her hand remained against your arm as you stared blankly at the screen in front of you.

“Who is that?” You asked slightly panicked.

“Johnny Gaudreau, he’s a player on the Flames.” She responded waving her hand out again for the phone.

“Holy Shit!” Was all that came out because staring at you was the boy from class who you had just ate lunch with.

“What?  Y/N What?”  She asked, voice rising in volume.

“That’s Johnny from my class!  Who was wearing the logo yesterday, I’m working on the paper with him.  I talked to him today, told him I was sorry about his team.  He looked freaked out then, no wonder why, probably thought I was a crazy fan.” You were starting to become unglued.

The enormous eruption of laughter next to you caught your attention.  “Only you would make friends with a NHL player and have no idea!  What are the odds?” Aurora wheezed out in between sharp intakes of breath.

“Don’t say that, how am I supposed to face him tomorrow?  I didn’t even know who he was and I was wearing a hockey jersey.”  This was too embarrassing.

“Well, you must not have been too off-putting if he wanted to be your partner.” She answered grabbing the phone from your hand.

How did something like this happen to you?  You inadvertently made a friend and probably insulted him about his team in the same day.  Was he only your partner because he had sat next to you and didn’t know anyone else in the class?  Summer classes were supposed to be less stress, why did it seem like yours was starting to become exactly the opposite?

“Master Eucliffe!” A voice echoed through the long corridors. Out into the royal gardens and ringing through every room of the palace. The servant didn’t stop until she was met with some force of reassurance. “Master Eucliffe!” Her voice called louder, hands coming up to cuff around her mouth like a megaphone.

“Oh, Miss Umi.” A tall young man spoke to her as she ran into the entrance room. “What seems to be the problem.” He walked up to her, his heavy footsteps stomping as he walked. His red eyes were intensely focused on the servant in front of him.

“AH! Knight Cheney! Thank goodness, you know where Master Eucliffe is, right?”

That’s where the knight laughed and rubbed the back of his head sheepishly. “Actually I don’t. He slipped away from you too, huh?”

Miss Umi stomped her foot on the ground. “Oooo! That boy!” She cursed, her plump figure bouncing up and down in it’s place. “He cannot keep shrieking his responsibilities. He’s supposed to meet the suitors today but he’s nowhere to be seen!”

anonymous asked:

Hey! I love your work, I adore every piece! :) so thank you! I was wondering if you could do a fluffy jinyoung scenario. Anything you want is fine, but please lots of fluff! :) thank you!

(I got this plot from another request!)

“Pst,” you whispered as you tapped the desk at the front of the library. Jinyoung looked up and smiled at you. He stood up from his swivel chair and pecked you on your lips.

“You’re earlier than usual,” he grinned as you went around to the back. “Was your class cancelled?”

You shook your head as you put your backpack on the ground and sat in the chair next to him. “We had a test, but I finished it pretty quickly, so I just came straight here.” Your boyfriend nodded his head as he went back to the book he was reading. “How’s everything so far?”

“The plot just started,” he replied as he looked up from his book. “I think after a few more chapter, we’ll see some character development.”

Covering your mouth, you tried to hold in your laughter. “I meant in the library. How are you handling the fort?”

Jinyoung put in his bookmark as he tried to hide his blushing face. “Well,” he coughed, “one of the computers on this floor isn’t working, but I already called a techie to handle that. Oh, and the third floor is getting rowdy again.”

You grunted as you leaned back in your chair. “Is it Jackson and the boys again?” you asked as Jinyoung nodded his head. “Seriously?” you sighed in quiet tone. You stood up from your desk and pecked Jinyoung’s cheek before he headed for the elevators. “I’ll be back.”

“Jackson!” you exclaimed as your friends were in full view. Jackson turned around and waved at you as the others called your name out loudly. You angrily slapped his waving hand down, making him flinch in his eat.

“Whoa, what gives?” he asked in complete shock.

“How many times do I have to tell you,” you snarled, “this is the silent floor of the library.”

“We were being quiet, noona!” Bam Bam added as he stuffed his mouth full of chips. The mere sight of his bag of chips just added onto your anger.

You grabbed Bam Bam’s bag of chips. “And no eating up here either!” Bam Bam frowned as he continued to chew the chips in his mouth.

You then glared over at Mark as he went back to typing on his laptop. Before you could say anything else, Jinyoung walked over to the table. “Did you yell at them already?” From the looks of it, the three boys at the table have been talked to already.

“Hyung, noona won’t let me eat my chips,” Bam Bam pouted.

“Yah,” Jinyoung put his hand to his forehead, “I told you that you can’t eat up here a million times already!”

Jackson groaned as he rocked back and forth in his chair. “Okay mom and dad, we’ll behave from now on, don’t worry.” Before you could comment, Jinyoung tugged your shirt by your shoulder and motioned you to follow him.

Just as you were about to ask why he wanted you to leave, he intertwined his hand with yours. “They’re not being loud anymore and that’s all that matters,” he smiled as if he was reading your mind.

Just as you were going to turn left to the elevator, Jinyoung went right, pulling the two of you back together. You two giggled quietly.

“Let’s take the long way so we can catch up,” he whispered. With a nod, you went to the right with him. “So how was your week so far?”

You swung your intertwined hand back and forth as you walked down the corridor. “It’s been alright. Nothing too stressful. The test we took today was easy since it was open notes.”

“Oh, that’s good to hear!” Jinyoung smiled. He let go of your hand real quick to open the door to the stairwell for you. After you were both in, he put his hand back in yours as you headed down the stairs. “Did you have that meeting with your advisor?”

You shook your head. “He cancelled it yesterday. Apparently he had a meeting he didn’t know about so he cancelled all of his appointments.”

“Wow, that’s rough,” Jinyoung replied.

“How are you?” you asked back as you continued down the flights of stairs. “It’s been so long since our library duty schedules lined up.”

“It has,” he chuckled, “but at least we’re with each other now. I’m good. I have a research paper due on Monday and a book review due on Tuesday next week. I also have a meeting tomorrow and a fundraiser event this Saturday.”

“Oh my gosh,” you gasped. “That’s such a busy schedule.”

“It’s okay, you know I like busy work,” he grinned.

“Don’t stress yourself out too much though, okay?” you told him. He looked up to see that you were very sincere with your words.

He leaned over to peck your cheek as you reached the bottom floor. “Don’t worry too much,” he smiled. “I’ll be fine. Your Jinyoungie is a strong boy!”

You laughed as you opened the door for the both of you. “I’m well aware that my Jinyoungie is the strongest~” you cooed as you pinched his cheek.

“Okay, okay!” he laughed as you let go of his cheek. He winced in pain as he rubbed his face. “On second that, that really heart. I’m not that strong after all.”

The two of you continued chuckling as you passed by another friend. You stopped in your tracks as you tapped Jinyoung’s shoulder to see. He turned around and tried to contain himself as both of you spotted your friend, Youngjae, curled up on the table sleeping. On top of that, he was using one of his textbooks as a blanket.

“This is too good,” Jinyoung muttered as he took out his phone and took a quick snapshot of the scene.

You tip-toed over to Youngjae and saw he was knocked out. Looking at the papers sprawled over the table, and his laptop that was on sleep mode, he was busy working on something. “Pst,” you whispered as you shook Youngjae. “Pst, wake up!” you said in a firmer tone.

“Oh, let him sleep,” Jinyoung said. “He was busy working on a paper all night. I came in and found him working at this table.”

You sighed. “Well, if that’s the case, couldn’t he have gone to the couches upstairs?”

Jinyoung shrugged. “Looks like he was too tired to do that.” As you were thinking with what to do with Youngjae, Jinyoung took off his jacket and laid it on top of Youngjae. You looked at your boyfriend in shock. “It’s better than using the textbook as a blanket,” he whispered as he slid the textbook from underneath his sleeping friend and put it near Youngjae’s laptop.

“But…the jacket…”

Jinyoung waved it off as the two of you continued walking to the front desk. “Ah, he knows it’s mine and he knows where to find me when he needs to return it.”

You smiled at his sincerity towards his friend. “You’re so nice,” you beamed.

“I’m an angel,” he joked as the two of you turned the corner. “Speaking of which,” he began as he waved over at the person waiting at the front desk.

You looked up and saw that Yoogyeom was patiently waiting with a book in hand. He spotted the two of you and waved with a warm smile on his face. “What brings you here?” you asked.

“Ah, noona. I was just wondering if you could help me find the place where this book is supposed to go,” Yoogyeom answered as he showed you the book in his hands.

“Yah, you don’t have to do that,” Jinyoung chuckled. “It’s our job to put the books back on the shelves in their proper place.”

“Oh, but I know it’s a hassle so I was just going to do it myself,” Yoogyeom responded.

“Ahh, you’re such an angel!” you squealed as you gave your younger, yet taller, friend a warm hug. He reciprocated the hug as Jinyoung laughed on the side. “Here,” you said as you motioned him to follow you, “I’ll show you where it goes.” Yoogyeom nodded as he followed behind you.

You turned to wave at Jinyoung. “I’ll be back!”

He smiled as he returned to his position behind the desk. “Take your time,” he called out. “I’ll be here!” And with that, he leaned back in his chair and picked up his book again.

However, he was surprised to find a sticky note on top of his book. Looking at it, this was definitely your handwriting. He wasn’t even aware that you wrote a note in the first place, let alone stick it to his book.

“The character development is great in this book,” he read your note aloud. “And the ending is great. I’m sure you’ll love it as much as I did. Love you,” he chuckled as he stuck the note back onto the front of his book again. He opened the book and leaned back in his seat as he dug himself into his book adventure and awaited you to come back from your duty calls.

🚨🚨Heads Up🚨🚨

Apparently there is a snake in the grass. Someone ( @got7-writes ) is out here stealing other people’s work and trying to pass it off as their own. The incredibly talented Admin Thirst over at @kpoppantydrop (if you aren’t following them already do it, you’re welcome and I’m sorry at the same time) has had her Jackson story jacked. Not fucking cool. It doesn’t matter if it’s a research paper, a full on novel or a fanfic. Plagiarism is weak shit. DO NOT TRY TO PASS OFF SOMEONE ELSES HARD WORK OFF AS YOUR OWN. Do not continue to take credit for it once you’ve been caught. Tumblr is a huge website. The internet is even bigger. No doubt this kind of crap is happening all over, but if you see it say something. If someone tried to pass my work off as their own I would be enraged. I’m enraged right now for Thirst. Anyway, go over to @kpoppantydrop and stan some OG queens and their ORIGINAL work. As for Got7-stealsotherpeopleswork …..

Say My Name

TITLE:  Say My Name

CHAPTER NUMBER/ONE SHOT: Part I / Part II (complete)

AUTHOR: i-wish-i-was-the-moon

GENRE: smut / erotica

FIC SUMMARY: Being focused on her research and career has made Dr Watson a lonely and grumpy woman. What happens when her new colleague Professor Hiddleston, a cheery and handsome man, decides to befriend her?

RATING: Mature (explicit sexual content)

AUTHORS NOTES/WARNINGS: So my Professor!Tom apparently is cute and cuddly, and is turning my OFC into a puddle. He’s sneaky that way. The bastard. Luckily, the Conda is less cuddly, so you’ll get your smut (you may proceed directly to part II, if you’re here only for that).

Part I

If it weren’t so gross, it might have been cute. Four weeks into a new term, and the new professor of anthropology was being spoiled rotten. As a junior professor he had been given the most boring lectures, the ones where you had students sleeping through them. And yet, you were barely able to fit into his class room. Every time I peeked in, the room was filled with female students ogling at him and wearing way too little clothing considering the efficient air-conditioning. The Dean was in awe, and in the last staff meeting she had spent a good twenty minutes singing his praise. I had pretended to receive an urgent call to get out of the meeting before blurting out my opinion about cougars.

My days have been a big blur.. With school, hospital work and research, I haven’t had a weekend to myself.

I love reading PhD comics (is there such thing as a MD comic??) and most of it is all fun and games, but this one was extra interesting.

I love the research I am doing and its fascinating, but I can’t help think “what’s the point” pretty often. One of the thing that worries me the most as I read more papers is the quality of research. I definitely think this is driven by the competitive nature of graduate school and the job search and the need to have publications out, but it definitely slows down research as a whole now that we have so much to filter out.

I hope to continue my research as I start medical school in the future… but I will keep all this in mind as I do, and work with the same zeal I started with to produce quality work.

Anyway, I am rambling on because I am so tired… I will update next time with a fresh mind and some exciting stories!

Exam Week

Harry: “Babe, I’m home,” Harry calls out, shouldering his way through the door with his arms full of two large grocery bags. He uses his boot clad foot to kick the door to the garage shut behind him before he ventures further into the home he’d recently purchased. He passes through the mud room into the white kitchen where he sets the bags down on the quartz counter top you’d picked out while he glances around the open floor plan to see if he can locate you. “Babe… hello,” he calls out louder, grabbing things out of the bags to start putting them in their proper place while waiting for a response. After he’s done, Harry leans against the island in front of him while he looks through the open floor plan of his farmhouse but he can’t spot you on the first floor. He notices that the barnyard doors he’d installed at the front corner of the house to make a make-shift office are slightly opened so he makes his way there. Pushing the door open, he finds you at the desk. There are several open books on the large desk, passages highlighted in pink and yellow. There’s a notebook and note cards at your side but you’re sound asleep, slumped against the desk top. Harry ventures closer, careful not to step on the one floor board that squeaks, to investigate what you’ve surrounded yourself with. He reads the book titles to himself and then suddenly feels like an ass for not realizing that it’s exam week at your university. He’s been so bogged down with band stuff he’d forgotten about your final week of exams. The last exam week you’d ever have. Your graduation was next weekend, something Harry could never forget even if he tried. He’s been preparing for your graduation for years now, too proud at your accomplishments that he feels far outweigh his own. Being a college graduate meant more than being a pop star in his eyes. He’d been on this collegiate journey with you from the beginning. He’d been there for every exam, every failed test (which were rare), every meltdown, and every research paper. He’d been there for internships and inappropriate lab partners. Harry had never been more proud of someone in his life than when you’d gotten a job offer at the London Museum as the display coordinator. For once, you’d be the one traveling the world for work and Harry would gladly follow you anywhere and look at any ancient artifact as long as you continued to have him. This had been your most challenging year with your senior thesis class but Harry had offered all the help he could provide. He’d even taken you to Moscow over Christmas break in preparation for your class on Russian history during World War II. From the looks of it, you’re in the midst of writing your senior research paper on the lack of gender equality in the armed forces of a war-torn Russia during World War II. Reaching over your slumped form, Harry signs in to your laptop to ensure that your work is saved before he slides the desk chair out far enough for him to lift you from the seat. You mumble incoherently about aviation regiments while Harry cradles you to his chest and shushes you. He makes his way up the stairs to the master bedroom, intent to put you bed for a few hours rest before he allows you to continue the final draft of your final paper. “I have to finish my paper,” you mumble tiredly even as you snuggle deeper into the soft white sheets. “Later, take a nap and rest for now. I’ll wake you in a few hours love, promise,” Harry assures you quietly, pressing a kiss to your forehead and you surrender to his suggestion. Several hours later, Harry sits across from you on the sectional as he edits your paper. He’s always known you were smart but as he reads over your research paper analyzing the lack of equality among the sexes in the Russian army, Harry finds himself once again astounded by your knowledge on the subject. He edits out the few grammatical errors you’d made and he’s rewarded with a home cooked meal later that night.

Liam: “Could you take me to my exam today? I need the extra time to study,” you question, looking up from the laptop in front of you towards your boyfriend. Liam pauses the show he’s been watching to turn towards you, sitting sideways on the couch to look across the room to where you sit at the dining room table. “Yeah… what time do we need to leave?” Liam asks and you bite your lip, glancing to his favorite show and then back to him. “Two hours… 1:30, the exam starts at 2:30,” you explain, watching as Liam glances back to the TV and then down to his watch. The DVR is full of the latest episodes of 24 and Liam has been most looking forward to catching up on his favorite show during his limited down time between tour dates. “You know what, it’s fine Liam. Honest, I could use the time to relax for a moment,” you rush with a bright, reassuring smile. “If you’re sure then,” Liam responds, turning back towards the TV and presses play. You were somewhat shocked at his response, half expecting him to fight you on the issue until you caved. But, Liam has done some growing since you’d first started dating. He wasn’t so quick to need or want to please you and was more than content with allowing you to do things for yourself. He had backed off considerably since two years ago, happy to let you go through life on your own terms without him crowding you. Allowing a moment to reflect on the man across the room, you return to your studies. Your ancient Roman history exam is fast approaching and while you’re more than confident that you know the material, keeping all the gods and goddess straight had proved to be somewhat difficult. “I’ve got to step out for a bit love, band business has apparently come up. Good luck on your exam, yeah?” Liam says, leaning across the table to press a kiss to your lips before he leaves through the garage door. You liked the new Liam, honest, but you missed his old ways. Exam week was always difficult and you always ended up more than incredibly stressed. You continue on and drive yourself to campus all the while going over a few last minute difficult gods out loud before parking. As you make your way through the crowded pathway and awnings, you hear a soft murmur going through the students. You’re mostly tuning them out but you catch pieces of their gossiping and apparently there’s something “unbelievable,” up ahead. “Li?” You say aloud, pulling an ear bud out when you spot Liam leaning against the stone wall outside your exam location. “I should’ve driven you,” he states quietly, hands sliding around to the back of your neck while pressing his forehead down against yours. “I’m sorry love, I’m trying to back off and let you do you but… I like hovering, I like doing things for you,” Liam admits, eyes closed and you are unsuccessful in biting back a smile. “Liam… I like you doing things for me as well, I just didn’t realize how much until you didn’t fight me on the matter of taking me to my exam,” you offer, manicured fingernails scratching at the growing beard covering his jaw and he smiles sweetly at your words. “You’ll do great love… no one knows this stuff more than you, don’t second guess yourself,” Liam reminds you, proving that he is indeed perfect and always knows what you need to hear in desperate times. “I love you Li… will you..,” you start but Liam silences you with a kiss. “I’ll be right here, waiting… always,” Liam assures you, turning you towards the open doorway and gives you a gentle push. “Cheeky,” you tease over your shoulder, giving him a playful smirk after he’s given you a hard tap to the ass and he shrugs. “Good luck,” he calls out once you’ve entered the classroom, chuckling at the blush burning your face as he takes a seat against the wall outside.

Niall: “So… how are you feeling?” Niall questions, leaning back on the white couch in his hotel room and you shrug through the wireless connection connecting you to him. “Not great… I feel like, I have no idea what’s going to be on this exam and, I have to pass,” you breathe out, brushing your side swept bangs behind your ear only for them to sweep back into your eyes a few seconds later. “I’m sure it’ll be fine… you’ve aced the course up until now right?” Niall questions, cracking his aching neck as you lean back in his desk chair and shrug. “I failed that first exam… really, who cares about Benedict Arnold, he was a traitor?” You demand angrily, arms crossing across your chest and Niall chuckles. “No one babe,” he assures you with a big smile, “but you’ll do fine on this exam, colonial history is your thing,” he adds a second later. “Yeah but… I can never keep the battles and their dates straight. Sure I know all about the Continental Army and all the Joseph Plum Martin’s and the Royal Army… but, I can’t remember when Lexington and Concord was and how close to Saratoga it was. Fuck, I can barely remember which battles America won, we lost basically all of them,” you complain, dropping your head into your hands dramatically and Niall chuckles. “That’s more than I know love… just remember, the war turned in America’s favor in 1777 with Saratoga. Cornwallis surrendered his army at Yorktown on October 19, 1781, the war ended in the colonies that year and the Paris Peace Treaty was signed in 1784… see, that’s all you need to know,” Niall rattled off, continuing his play at FIFA unaware of the astonished look on your face thousands of miles away. “What?” He questioned, pausing his game when you’d burst into tears. “You actually listened… all those times I rattled off facts from classes and I thought you weren’t even hearing me but, you listened. You heard,” you cried, wiping tears from your cheeks and Niall gives an embarrassed smile. “It was interesting, I never knew all that stuff before you,” he shrugged nonchalantly but you shook your head. “Niall… you’re incredibly bright, even if you don’t think so,” you said with a proud smile, leaning forward in his seat wishing you could reach through the screen and wrap in your arms. “I wish I could be there to drive you,” Niall finally spoke after several silent minutes just looking at one another. Giving him a shy smile, you shrugged while biting your lips. “I wouldn’t be able to concentrate with you here. It’s better this way,” you assure him and Niall chucks an old pair of socks at the screen in mock anger. “I lie,” you chuckle, holding your hands up in surrender but Niall continues to pout. “I miss you. I wish you were here too. To help, to distract me… I wouldn’t care,” you say with an air of finality and Niall gives you a happy smile. “I’ll be thinking of you, good luck,” Niall says, signing off with an ‘I love you,’ and you return to the books in front of you. “You should check this out xxx,” your best friend texts, an attachment at the end of the message that you click open on your way into your exam. “Girls… my lady is taking a Colonial History exam right now and she’s really nervous even though she knows that stuff backwards and forwards. So, if you guys could let her know she’s got this… I’d appreciate it,” Niall speaks into the microphone in the video. The crowd of girls goes crazy and he smiles. “Y/N I love you babes, you’re too smart for me but I wouldn’t have it any other way! This is for you,” Niall finishes, looking down to the guitar in his arms as he starts strumming a stripped down, acoustic version of What Makes You Beautiful. You may or may not have shed a few tears on your exam booklet.

Louis: “Not right now,” you answer as another knock comes from the other side of the locked study door. “Babe you’ve been in there for hours, literally,” Louis’s muffled voice whines. “I’m not finished,” you call out, hoping he will get the hint soon so that you could get back to concentrating on your twenty-page Paradise Lost inspired research paper. “How much longer?” He inquires, his tone almost annoyed. “Louis, this paper is my final! Get it? My final! It has to be perfect.” Silence falls after that and you are left to continue writing. The emptiness of the house killed Louis. He hated exam week probably more than you did. Simply because it kept you away from him and his mind wouldn’t let him stay concentrated long enough to let you go off to the study to finish up your semester work. He slowly walks away from the door even though all he wanted to do was sit beside you as you worked. That wasn’t possible though. His hyperactive mind would never allow you enough time to actually write a paper worth turning in so he was kept out of the study and the door was locked to make sure he didn’t find his way back in. It always felt drastic to you, but you knew that was the only way you would ever be able to concentrate. As he collapses on the couch for probably the fifteenth time since you had locked yourself away he sighs deeply, unsure of what to do to pass the time. “I don’t know mate but I’m bored sick over here,” he says over the phone once calling Niall became the only option he thought he had. “She’s been in there since last night. I don’t know why we have to be on break during exam week anyways, does none of us any good.” “Why don’t you surprise her with something?” Niall suggests. “Isn’t this her last final before graduation?” “How do you know that?” Louis asks. “Everyone knows that, mate. All she could talk about when she came around was how the Milton paper was the very last thing she had to do before graduation.” “Well what should I do?” Louis asks, knowing he wasn’t always the best at on-the-spot surprises. “That new bakery just opened up down from you didn’t it? I think I saw it the other day when I came over. Go there and get her some cupcakes or something.” Niall’s suggestion was doable. “Definitely taking all of the credit for that idea mate, thanks.” Louis pauses at the door after grabbing his keys, unsure of whether or not to tell you that he was stepping out. He decides to leave you be and heads out to the newly opened bakery. It’s not long after Louis leaves that you finish the paper and email it to your professor with infinite relief. “Finished!” You shout excitedly as you step out of the study for the first time in almost twenty-four hours. “Louis?” You call out, once silence was the only thing returning your celebration. You make your way downstairs and look out the window to find that Louis had left while you were working. Sadness comes over you. You walk over to the couch he had been sitting on only a half hour ago. Laying down on the plush cushions, you turn the television on, hoping something was on to occupy your mind since your boyfriend couldn’t. Not long after finding something to watch Louis opens the door, startled to find you on the couch. “Oh. You’re finished?” You nod annoyed, keeping your eyes on the television screen. “Well that kind of ruins my plan,” he says to himself, but loud enough for you to catch on. You turn your head to notice his arms full of flowers, balloons, and a large white box. A smile spreads across your face and you get up from the couch to help. “Are these for me?” You ask, taking the extravagant bouquet from his grasp. “Well who else would they be for?” He questions before pressing a kiss to your lips. “Congratulations, babe.”

Zayn: “Shape of the deltoid?” He asks, looking down at the questions you had emailed to him, his face pixelating on the screen. “Triangular,” you answer. “Trapezius?” “Trapezoid.” “Serratus?” “Saw-toothed.” “Very good, now which direction do the rectus muscle fibers go?” “Parallel?” You question, unsure of your answer. “Yes, see, you’ve got this babe. I don’t know why you’re so worried.” “There’s just  so much information.” You say, looking at the clock. “We’ve been at this for four hours Zayn, are you sure you don’t need to go to sleep?” You question, not sure of exactly what time it was where he was at. “I’m fine babe. I’ve never missed a final study session and being in Melbourne isn’t going to stop me. Now, which direction are the transverse muscle fibers?” He continues, getting you back on topic. “Perpendicular.” The two of you go back and forth for the next few hours until it’s time for you to leave for your exam and he’s left with just enough time to sleep to make it through another show. “Listen, you’ve got this. You’ve just spent the last six hours proving it.” You nod and he smiles. “I wish I could kiss you,” you tell him, your tone longing for his presence beyond the computer screen. “I know babe. I’ll be home soon and then we can go out and celebrate you passing this Anatomy final.“ “Deal,” you agree, a smile stretching across your face. “Now go and kill that thing. I love you.” “I love you too,” you say before shutting down the computer and heading off to class for the final time. “How’d it go?” He asks over the phone. He had called you almost exactly after the two hour test limit was up. “Shouldn’t you be sleeping?” You question with a laugh. “I should, yes, but I had to wake up again to call you to find out how it went.” You can’t help but admire his caring personality. “Well I won’t know for sure until tomorrow, but I felt really good about it. I knew about everything on the test, so hopefully I chose the right answers.” “I’m so proud of you,” he remarks, not commenting on you questioning yourself. “I can’t wait to get home to celebrate summer break with you,” he continues, excitedly, more energetic than he should be with the time difference between the two of you. “Why don’t you go back to sleep and I will call you when I get the results in?” You suggest, wanting him to get as much rest as possible after sitting up with you for six hours after finishing a three hour show. “As soon as you know, okay?” He makes you promise. “Yes, of course, as soon as I know.” “I love you,” you say, meaning every word. “I love you too.” Silence falls over the line, with neither one of you wanting to hang up. “I’m so proud of you babe,” he ends with, hanging up the phone to go back to sleep. “Yes!!” He says sleepily after you call him as soon as your results were in as promised. You hated waking him up, knowing this was the second time this particular sleep of his had been interrupted. However, you knew that if you didn’t  call him as soon as you knew you had passed your Anatomy exam he would have been very upset. “I knew you could do it babe,” he says, yawning directly after his statement. You can’t help but chuckle at his persistence. “Go back to sleep babe, this time for real.” “Will do,” he says, letting silence fill his end of this line.
