Yeah because tanned white people isn't a thing? How many pale cowboys are there in New Mexico? Having visited the place I'd say relatively few. By all means have your head canon if it makes you happy, but don't accuse people who don't share it of "racism".

boi!! mccree is heavily mexican coded!! not just his skin color, but his fashion (the serape?? mexican) and his entire theme of being a cowboy (most real cowboys were mexican, native american, and/or black!). like, the whole cowboy thing was started by mexicans–we get the word “buckaroo” from vaquero because white americans couldnt (wouldnt?) pronounce spanish properly. he’s also FROM new mexico, which, guess what, once was actually mexico! america took the territory from mexico during the mexican american war. today nm has the highest percentage population of hispanic people out of all the other states. “ The U.S. Census Bureau estimated that 48% of the total 2015 population was Hispanic or Latino of any race, the highest of any state.” literally quoted there, for you.

i could just as easily for navajo mccree, or mixed mccree! new mexico has the highest population of native americans in the continental US at just under 10%, and 4% of the population of nm speaks navajo. mccree has more hispanic coding than navajo, but why couldn’t he be mixed? it’s the fuckin’ future. he could be navajo and mexican.

i called that person racist for saying /mccree is white/ when he is HEAVILY coded to be NOT WHITE and doesnt even LOOK like a white guy outside of his legendary skins (but we all know how blizzard is with the whitewashing so)

sure, tanned white people exist. mccree’s not one of ‘em, though. at the VERY LEAST, he’s coded to be hispanic. and why would it be a big deal if he IS not white? if he is mexican or navajo or both? that’s more representation! why would that be bad, ever????

So, this whole discussion about making art/fic/crafts for money and whether that sucks the joy out of it, etc. got me thinking.

I don’t have any conclusions drawn, just lots of free-floating thoughts.

Like, I enjoy drawing things, and I enjoy when the thing I draw actually makes me a little bit of money, and I wouldn’t mind drawing more things that people like and making a little more money. But the drawing that has made me the most money (cute, colorful collage) is not the kind of drawing I find currently challenging (realistic pencil drawings that maybe don’t reproduce well on phone cases or make for fun or eye-catching t-shirts). And as far as writing, I feel way more possessive about it and really, really don’t want that to be commodified or joyless or even harshly judged in any way–although if money showed up magically, I wouldn’t say no, of course, and I am interested in scrubbing one or more of my fics to be sellable, so….

Who the heck knows. There’s a lot for me to untangle there.

But those of you who do art/craft/write for money, what are your thoughts? How does it work for you? Does being creative for pay take the shine off things?

PSA: The app Colorfy tries to trick you into a $13/week subscription. That's right, per WEEK.
You might not fall for this scam, but your mom will, hence why it deserves a PSA.

Signal boosting this, because this is super shitty.

tl;dr: An app called COLORFY is an editor’s choice in the Play Store. It’s a coloring thing that looks great, and says FREE all over the place.

But it tries to get you to agree to a THIRTEEN DOLLAR PER WEEK subscription, and makes it difficult to cancel the subscription.

This is a scam that most people won’t fall for, but I’m boosting the signal because we all know someone who will fall for it.

Pages from my Moleskine 2017 Bullet Journal: Finally got around to starting my bullet journal for the upcoming year and I have to say, this is probably by far my most favorite starting page that I’ve ever made. I’m still getting the hang of using brush pens but I’m extremely satisfied with how it looks in here.

For those trying to figure out how they want their journal to look or just want some inspo: here’s a few designing tips for you guys

  • Have a color scheme: For the most part I’m probably gonna stay along the lines of blue and rose gold (love me some rose gold always) but you can always go to websites and search for pretty color schemes to use
  • Tumblr is one of the hugest databases and has so many beautiful inspirational quotes and pictures. Take advantage of them!! Print them out, stick some tape, and smack it into your journal.
  • Put some memories in there: receipts, movie tickets, polaroids, little notes from friends, anything that will make you smile.
  • Washi tape. Enough said.

Finally, I’m probably going to start a bullet journal series for this upcoming year so that you guys can see how I set up my journal and what layout it has. I’ll be tagging them with #myplanner. I hope you enjoy!!

They all say that I’m going to forget the color of his eyes and how his smile formed but I don’t think it’s true. I won’t forget the color of his eyes, his smell, his soft lips pressed on mine, his voice when he used to call me at 2 a.m and I also won’t forget that he made me feel like I was the most beautiful girl inside and out and that it all made sense because of him. I hated silent places before you took me there with you. It was completely silent but with you it felt like the world. I could’ve gone anywhere with you and I would’ve felt like I’m home. They all say I’m going to forget all of these things normally people don’t notice that much. But I won’t forget it because I loved someone so much that it hurt.

the most disgusting part of this is, america is really showing its true colors. everyone who says racism is dead can shut the fuck up. this is racism right here. this is a man in 2016 spewing this racist, sexist, islamophobic, homophobic shit, and he’s giving all the racist cowards here a chance to put white, heterosexual, male interests back into power. he is voicing all the things people have been to scared to say. thats why this took us all by surprise, bc people were embarrassed to say they were voting for him, these people are literally everything that is wrong with this country and they’re about to put someone just like them in power

Those people who begrudgingly admit that talking about racism in fandom is important only to then be like “it’s not the only reason people like x underdeveloped or poorly written character more than main characters of color” are so ridiculous…

A) We’ve debunked this multiple times across multiple fandoms. If you’re that aware of what “antis” (and ugh why) are saying about a character you love in relation to racism in their corner of fandom, you should know that because most of the people talking about racism and erasure in fandom do it for multiple fandoms and characters.

B) This whole thing where white people decide that racism isn’t the main reason characters of color are disliked and mistreated in fandom needs to stop. Looking at the Star Wars fandom for specifics because it’s one of my mains, if fans of color are talking about antiblack racism or Latinx fetishization, as a white person it is literally not okay to be like “well that’s not right, it’s not really a factor here or it’s not the only one”. It’s rude, dismissive, absolutely unnecessary, and racist as hell.

Also, my god, liking Kylo BECAUSE he’s a villain is still intimately tied into race because Hello, the glorification of white crime is a thing. Saying that you/fandom would still like Kylo if he were black is a lie because this is a fandom that has labeled other black men (Mace Windu and Lando) as villains for legit nonexistent villainous behavior and then used that as an excuse not to create content for them. Or not to interact with the characters.

Please look at how fandom uses genuinely good black characters (Nick Fury, Lando, Finn, Sam Wilson, Deaton, and others) as villains in stories centering white characters.

Look at how Baron Mordo is nonexistent in Doctor Strange discourse despite being an actually complex villain and how the Luke Cage villains Cottonmouth and Mariah Dillard don’t get even a tenth of the love Loki does despite being better written.

The glorification of white crime in media and otherwise (because Bonnie & Clyde) is entirely to do about race and we know for a fact that fandom treats villains of color (and characters of color they decide are villains) way differently from white ones.

If you don’t have experience or understanding talking about race/racism in fandom, I strongly suggest keeping your thoughts to yourself until you can do your discourse without regurgitating the same tired thoughts white fans keep trying to claim are new and improved.

“The Korean word that I loved the most since I started learning Korean after coming to South Korea in 2009 was ‘Woori’ (meaning 'We’). But I wonder if 'woori’ applies to someone like me of color. When I tell people that I’m from Africa, I get a lot of startling questions like, 'Do you grow a lion at your house?’ I get it so often that now I just respond by saying that my father has two lions. That’s how much Koreans are unknowledgeable about Black people and Africa. I tried to sit in an empty seat and an ahjumma (middle-aged woman) took the seat, outrightly discriminating against me by saying, 'What is a black thing doing here in Korea? Go back to your country’. What hurt more was that the other Korean people just sat there and watched. It made me wonder if Koreans just watch foreigners without helping them in difficult situations. Often, people in Korea call me 'Black Hyung’. I want people to call me Okyere hyung comfortably, or Okyere dongsaeng, or just Okyere without referring to my skin color.” - Sam Okyere

One of the most satisfying experiences I know is just fully to appreciate an individual in the same way I appreciate a sunset. When I look at a sunset … I don’t find myself saying, “Soften the orange a little on the right hand corner, and put a bit more purple in the cloud color” … I don’t try to control a sunset. I watch it with awe as it unfolds. It is this receptive, open attitude which is necessary to truly perceive something as it is.

I would give the same advice to Simon that I would just give to anyone. I’d be like, just don’t worry about things too much.

I believe everything happens for a reason. I think there’s no such thing as failure and there’s no such thing as regret unless you see it that way. It’s really just opportunities to learn and I think learning is one of the most important things people can do. So allow yourself to learn.

I’m not saying go be crazy, but I’m saying like, push yourself outside of your boundaries. Take those extra steps and know that it’s all gonna work out. As long as you’re working to better yourself and in service of the people around you, you’ll be fine.

unblazing  asked:

i rr like ur art and i was wonderin how you pick out your color schemes when you draw? like do u just kind of yolo it or do u have like a thing u do lol

thank u !!! actually i already tried to explain one way i pick colors here , tho thats pretty old and only refers to analogous color schemes so… im gonna try to update it a lil bit! (btw everything ill say from this point on is just based on my own experience, im no art student and im sry if anything i explain makes no sense….!! ANYWAY moving on)

1) probably the thing i use the most are analogous color schemes bc theyre easy to do and look very calm and harmonous:

the two colors i show on the color pick thing are the ones farthest to the left and right, every other color is somewhere between them! bc of this the drawing looks calm and natural. most of the different colors u can see are created by playing around with the saturation!

2a) something i only recently started using frequently is the analogous color scheme with a highlight:

the most part of the drawing is done in analogous colors, but i added a highlight to kinda of… “break open” the closed off feeling that analogous schemes usually have! for that highlight i tend to use a higher saturated color on the other side of the color wheel, or at least one that doesnt “match” the other colors.

2b) most of the time i do the highlight not like this tho, but in the lineart:

thats a lot more subtle !

3) and sometimes i just do…..whatever lmao

'Logan' Breakout Dafne Keen on Audition Embarrassment and Her X-23 Future

1. She comes from a film-friendly family. Keen is the daughter of British actor Will Keen (The Crown, Wolf Hall) and Spanish actress Maria Fernandez Ache, with multiple directors and writers in her extended family. “I remember spending entire school holidays in rehearsing spaces, watching my mum and dad working, and followed them around on tour or on film sets all the time,” she tells Heat Vision. “I went to see Hamlet, which they directed about 10 times, and I always loved it. I remember I used to listen to the actors rehearsing and try to remember all their lines while I played with the color filters they put in the lights.” From her parents, she says, she’s learned about “being truthful, and the most important thing being telling the story, and all working together for the same thing. I love that.” (x)

don't fall in love with me
don't fall in love with me

so, i wrote this poem less than a week ago. it was a hit with many of you, becoming my most popular poem to date.

today, @princess-peniscake asked for my permission to record it as a song. i’m very pleased with the result, to say the least.

give it a listen, it makes me smile.
i hope it does the same for you!

and please feel free to share, if you enjoy it.

poem/lyrics:

“don’t fall in love with me

i’ll turn you into poetry
and sing out of key

i’ll wake you every morning
to see: coffee-colored eyes
and i’ll sip from you slowly
as i kiss you goodbye

don’t fall in love with me

i’ll map your constellations
and make myself at home

i’ll laugh and get nervous
when i tell awful jokes

so i’ll smile and kiss you
on the tip of your nose
don’t fall in love with me
don’t get too close

one day, you’ll need me
until one day, you won’t

and i’ll write poetry
to heal what you broke
i’ll try not to miss you
until one day, i don’t

don’t fall in love with me
don’t give me hope”

It makes me so happy when you remember the little things that I told you on our first date. Even the things that I wouldn’t ever remember saying, you somehow manage to recover them from your memory.
That’s how I know that you were in love. When you’re in love, you remember the little things- you remember their favorite color, the way their hair looked, the way their eyes lit up when they talked about their fears and motivations. Although it’s just a distant memory, and I barely remember most of the things we even talked about, I still vividly remember the way you looked into my eyes when I walked up to you. So captivated. So intrigued. So in love. Those deep brown eyes pulled me in oh so fast, and I don’t think I’ll ever be able to fall back out… and I’m okay with that.
