Flower Girl Part 5

Pairing: Loki Laufeyson x Mute Nature oriented Reader

Warnings: Do pills count as a drug reference if you don’t abuse them??? This is mostly leading up to more…DRAMATIC stuff

A/n: If I end up messing up the part numbers, let me know plz and I’ll fix it lol. Also, I have so many ideas for this story I’m sure you guys will both love and…well, you’ll see ;-)

You had decided to name your snake Hissy, since that was an easy name for you to describe. He hadn’t left your room yet, you didn’t want him to end up getting Loki in trouble. You weren’t sure if he was allowed to use his magic in the Tower yet, so he was hidden within your crazy messy viney room you somehow were able to live in. Your bed was usually covered in leaves and flower petals from the plants around your room. It made your room like a dream or something from an online aesthetic. You were just lucky no one was allergic to your plants.

Thor had taken Loki to show him his own room, so you had taken to your own room for a little bit, though you did feel suddenly left out by the brothers. You hadn’t seen Thor happier now that his brother was good enough to be free by Tony and Steve’s standards, so you thought you’d let them have a bit of time to themselves. It was nice to see Loki finally being accepted as someone other than the monster and villain they all perceived him to be. That made you very happy.

You knew he’d eventually want to know why you couldn’t speak, how you were able to manipulate nature around you, but you weren’t sure if you could or if you were ready to share it. The Avengers had your file, you never had to tell them anything about you. They probably knew things about you that you didn’t even know.

Hissy wound his way around your calf as you sat on your bed, his head resting daintily on your knee. It was now when you started noticing things about him. His eyes were black with flecks of green in them, his scales had speckles of gold over the green, and his belly was a pale yellow color. He was honestly very cute, you hadn’t known that a snake could be so cute and such a nice companion. It was like Loki, in a way.

Picking up your journal, you flip to a blank page, past your lists of flowers and what you knew they meant, to a half-sketch of the Avengers you had started before Loki had come into your life. You had Steve and Tony finished, you still had to draw Nat’s face in, and start working on the figures of the rest of the team. You had a small space in front of Steve where you were going to put yourself in, though now you were beginning to rethink where you were going to be.

You skipped the drawing for now, turning to a blank page, and started sketching Hissy. He seemed to still as you looked him over to get him right, adding his little tongue flicking out. You smiled to yourself as you thought about Loki, though it faded as you remembered the first time you heard of him.

“Tony, all I am asking is you give him a chance,” Thor had said, following Tony around like a child.

“If this is about you bringing your brother here, forget it. None of us have forgotten what he’s done to this world.”

“Or to us,” Clint had butted in with his two cents.

“He is not evil, I promise you.”

Tony had turned on the Asguardian god. “What is he then? Because, to us, he’s evil.”

You watched Thor search for the right words in his head, finally settling on, “He’s sick.”

Tony turned on him quicker than you had ever seen him turn on anyone, not even Steve. Well, at that point you hadn’t. “No, listen to me. Sick implies that once upon a time, he was healthy, that he can get better. He’s a monster-always has been, always will be based on what we’ve seen and heard-and nothing can change that. Especially not your attempts on ‘humanizing’ him here with false hopes. You can cut off his horns, but that doesn’t make the devil less dark.”

You shook your head, wanting to shake that memory away. You hated that that was your first impression of him now that you knew he could be good. You had proved Tony Stark wrong. That made you happier. Maybe that was why Thor had also been happier, that you had proved that he was right about Loki. That his brother wasn’t truly evil.

    Just…misunderstood.

“Hey, Sunflower,” Steve said, knocking against the side of your open door. “Mind if I come in?”

You shook your head, patting the bed across from you as you move your body and Hissy so he could sit. He carefully walked past your vines and flowers and sat across from you, searching for what to say.

“Okay, so…I know that you and Loki have been spending time together and that’s perfectly fine,” he quickly added as he saw you sigh and look put out. “I just want you to know that you should be careful. He’s called the God of Lies for a reason, but I don’t doubt that you’ve changed him. He’s…actually civil to us now, which is crazy because it wasn’t long ago when he was trying to kill or enslave us. What I’m trying to say is…” he put his hand on your head to ruffle your hair. “I’m proud of you, Y/n. You’re amazing.”

You cheeks flared pink as you smiled widely, lunging forward to hug him tightly. He had said he was proud of you before, but you were always happy to hear it. You always worked so hard to fit in, to prove that you did belong and that you weren’t a mistake. That they didn’t waste their time with you.

He chuckled as his hands rested between your shoulder blades and behind your head carefully, knowing how sensitive you were. “Alright, well…I’m gonna leave you be now, I know you need to relax from things. Oh, but don’t forget to take the medicine Bruce gave you.”

You nodded slightly, looking to your bedside table where there were several pill bottles were. All but three were filled with dirt and small flowers were sprouting from them. One was to help you sleep at night, one was an anxiety depressor, and the last one was one Bruce had made. It suppressed your powers when you had an anxiety attack and your powers would go crazy. Sometimes your powers also just went haywire whenever your negative emotions got too out of control or if it decided to try to control you. They didn’t know entirely about what the experiments had done to you, but every now and then you’d have a problem. It scared them the first time it happened, but Bruce had been quick to act. He hadn’t always liked his mutation, he’d been trying to keep it from showing up as much, so he already had a prototype of the pills you now had that he gave you. Luckily, it worked.

Steve kissed your head gently before walking out of your room. Hissy peered up at you, his tongue flicking out as he smelled/tasted the air. You patted his head with your finger before reaching for your pills and water glass.

Loki waved his hand, cutting off his connection to see through Hissy’s eyes. He didn’t want to stoop to this level of lies and spy on you, but no one would tell him anything about you. He felt horrible, invading your privacy like that, but he never looked in on you when you were changing. He wasn’t willing to ruin your trust in him that easily.

Why did you need pills? Was something wrong with you that you needed pills to control your actions or feelings? That couldn’t feel good. He knew you couldn’t tell him anything, you weren’t able to, and there was no way he would be able to get a hold of your file to know himself. None of the Avengers trusted him enough to tell him your secrets either, not even Thor. They loved you too much to risk you with him. There was something wrong that was killing him because he didn’t know. He knew about the Avengers and their pasts, but not you. He didn’t want to dive into your head to access memories, he didn’t want to hurt you.

You were too sweet, too kind, to not have something terrible in your past. He knew that much. Pills were another hint. Obviously you were either sick or had to suppress something. He didn’t really understand your plant powers either. That could be what the pills were for.

He wouldn’t ask you. He couldn’t. That’d be prying. Although, what he was just doing was also considered prying, though it didn’t dredge up awful memories for you. That’s what he wanted to avoid. If he could just gather enough information to make an assumption about you, even a guess would help ease his mind just a little about you. What about you was driving him crazy? Was it the fact that you happened to be the first person on this miserable world that showed him any kindness like he was a person? Or was it possibly the fact that you couldn’t talk but were so expressive that it felt like you’d start talking at any moment?

There were so many questions flying through his head about you, but there were no answers he could find.

How could one small Midguardian girl drive him, a god, so infernally crazy?

why you keep getting hurt, based on your moon sign

ARIES: you may find yourself doing the hurting in your relationship. love for you is supposed to be exciting, and when you’re not excited about the relationship, it’s easy for you to let go. but hurting people doesn’t feel good. not many people realize this, but aries don’t intend to hurt people. they just naturally put themselves first. it hurts them when people close to them hurt. you may have a lot of trouble finding someone who understands you and your carefree attitude about relationships. maybe love isn’t for you, you begin to think.

TAURUS: you have an intense loyalty to the people you love. so much so, in fact, that you stay in situations that you may be better off walking away from. to you, a partnership is a long term commitment and any problems that may arise can be worked out, if people are willing to work at it. the problem is, you’re always willing to work on it and the other person may not be so willing. people take advantage of you. you don’t like to fail. when relationships end for you, it causes you a lot of pain because you feel like you failed. you start to think about all the things you could have done to make things work, but you can’t change someone else no matter how hard you try.

GEMINI: you’re very hard on yourself. you have this weird war going inside you. a part of you thinks “im in a v srs relationship, this is srs business,” while the other side is wanting to have fun and gets bored staying in one spot. you can be hard on others too. you have these ideas about what a good partner should be like and what a serious relationship is supposed to look like, so you tend to dwell on flaws that may not even be deal breaker worthy. finding a balance and learning to let go of preconceived ideas about relationships is a challenge for you. if you don’t find a balance, you’ll feel lost and like no one is out there for you.

CANCER: you care SO much about people. you always do incredibly thoughtful gestures for the people you love. maybe your partner made an offhand comment once about liking this super niche movie that’s hard to find, and you go out there and buy it. it’s hard for people to match your insane effort. the thing is, you want someone to treat you how you treat others. you want someone to remember that story you told about your favorite vacation as a kid and then they surprise you with plane tickets for your birthday. people show love in all sorts of ways, but it’s hard for you to accept love in a way that’s different from the way you love. if it’s not these insane, sentimental gifts, it’s not enough for you. you feel unfulfilled.

LEO: you put people on a pedestal. you have high standards, or you at least like to think you have high standards. when you’re into someone, you’re like “oh my god! finally someone who is everything I’ve been looking for!” you begin to see them as this vision you had in your head of the person you pictured yourself with. but fantasy is not reality. when this person doesn’t live up to that fantasy, you get hurt. you’re a hopeless romantic and very grandiose in the way you express your love. everything about love to you is a fairytale. you’re setting impossibly high standards for not only potential partners, but even yourself.

VIRGO: we live in a society where reminding someone to put their seatbelt on is nagging. to you, this is an act of love. you’re a perfectionist with yourself and your love life. you love through constructive criticism and communication. never mind the fact that people just can’t take criticism these days, people instinctually become defensive. you don’t mean it to come across as critical and naggy, you genuinely want you, the other person, and your relationship to be the best it can be. you feel misunderstood and you probably have begun to give in to thinking there’s something inherently wrong with you.

LIBRA: love for you is more than just emotions, it’s a conscious decision you make everyday. this will cause you to stay in situations that aren’t right for you. once you’ve decided to be with someone, you’ve decided and now you have to deal with this commitment. pair that with a need to keep the peace and you can drive yourself crazy, dealing with other people’s bullshit that you shouldn’t have to deal with. you bend so much to the needs of the other person, because you’re adaptable so you can be the one to compromise to keep the relationship harmonious. but by doing this, you neglect your own needs and you become blind to how you truly feel and what you truly want.

SCORPIO: not many people realize it, but you have very high standards. this comes from your overall pessimistic view on people, which probably stems from going through a lot of disappointment in your past. you are insanely loyal to those you’re with and you love HARD. you may often feel that no one will love you the way you love them. you don’t even always express just how deeply you love someone. you don’t like to admit it, but you get deeply attached to people. when someone inevitably doesn’t live up to your standards, this causes you a lot of pain.

SAGITTARIUS: people fucking suck. everyone has skeletons in their closets and baggage. people take themselves and relationships too seriously. you just want to have fun with the person you’re with. you have a hard time dealing with the human side of people. why does everyone else have to be so negative, you think. love is an amazing thing! and we should have fun while we have time on this earth together. much like aries, you may have begun to think love isn’t for you because everyone else is out here taking the fun out of love.

CAPRICORN: there’s an inherent loneliness than comes with being a cap moon. you come across as cold to others because the way you express love is so different than everyone else. emotions take a back seat, you love through providing for your partner and becoming the best at what you do to ensure a comfortable life for yourself and those you love. people see that as putting your work before your loved ones, but that’s not your intention. failures in your love life have caused you to completely stop seeking out potential partners, even if you would really love to be in a relationship right now.

AQUARIUS: the person you’re with is not only your partner, but your best friend. but isn’t that a good thing? it can be, but you have the tendency to detach from the emotional and romantic side of the relationship. you’re afraid of your emotions sometimes, and you’ve developed this ability to completely detach. people you are with may feel like you don’t love them, they’ll begin to feel more like your friend than your lover. but that’s not how you mean for it to come across! you just have a hard time expressing love in a way that others can understand.

PISCES: you give people too many chances. you see people how you want to see them, rather than for who they truly are and you usually default to seeing the best in everyone. you gravitate towards relationships where one of you needs saving. if you’re the one who needs saving, you put too much of that responsibility into the other person. if you’re the savior in the relationship, you have a hard time realizing that you can’t save someone who doesn’t want to be saved.

let’s all have a group hug <3 astrology is a wonderful tool to not only understand yourself, but to understand others. treat each other kindly and embrace differences in people.

Emotional Consent

I’ve always been hesitant to post about this because I’m worried people will take it as a personal offense and I just want to say in advance this isn’t “@ anyone” or a callout even

I just feel like emotional consent as a concept is rarely talked about and therefore it’s often breached unknowingly (hence why I don’t never get mad at anyone specific for breaching it), and also I think it’s important I make this post. I didn’t learn what it was till I was older, and most people don’t.

Essentially “emotional consent” is a mutual understanding and willing agreement between both parties when discussing directly emotional or potentially emotionally loaded questions.

I’m going to start with examples, and I know it might feel bad at first if you recognize you do some of them (it’s okay, we all do from time to time), but please keep reading because I promise I’ll get onto alternative dialogues and solution

Here are some examples of what a breach of emotional consent can look like- not all the ways of course, but the major ones off the top of my head:

  • Venting to someone without warning or established boundaries this can look like starting a conversation by venting, or detailing graphic information seemingly out of nowhere and without effective trigger warnings. This can put people in situations where they feel like they have to respond, even if they’re not emotionally equipped, if they’re busy, or if they don’t have the spoons. Of course, usually this wasn’t the intent of the venter, but still has the same effect. FYI- this includes celebrities, social media icons, and people you admire.
  • Talking graphically about sex, masturbation, or anything in that range without warning or established boundaries this can look like anything from sharing a funny sexual escapade with your friends, and dirty jokes, to sexual harassment and telling someone hows bad you want to fuck them despite not knowing how they feel about it. Sometimes in these scenarios, people can appear visibly comfortable in attempt to fit in and not seem prudish, or to avoid awkward confrontation. This can also be especially sensitive because this is a topic that can very easily and unexpectedly bring up traumas and insecurities along with the discomfort, and it can perpetuate rape culture.
  • Using pet-names and romantic implications, even platonically, without established consent this one was tough for me to swallow at first because I love pet names and I love using them platonically to show love. But even more, I want the people I love to feel comfortable and safe around me. Some people have deeper more negatively charged, or more intensely charged feelings around pet names than I do, and I wouldn’t want to subject them to that. Some people are also comfortable with certain pet names and not others. Also things like calling platonic meetups dates, cuddling, and platonically holding hands mean different things to different people, which is important to respect.
  • Showing people media or sending articles or news with heavy emotional content either without warning, or with the expectation of discussion part of this is about including trigger warnings, and making sure viewing triggering content is optional in spaces and interactions we have control over. Another part though, is the fact that we often expect people to have interactions and discussions with us about emotionally charged topics, including politics, crime, oppression, natural disasters, etc. without fully understanding how this can affect the other person.
  • Telling someone they’re the only person you feel comfortable telling something to, or be open with this one sucks because it usually (except in cases of abuse) comes out of genuine care and wanting to make the other person feel special. That being said, no matter how you phrase it, it can put a massive responsibility on the person that similar to my first example, can make them feel obligated to help even when they’re not in an appropriate place to.
  • Expecting people to share personal or intimate information a lot of times we ask emotionally loaded questions because we care about and are interested in the lives of our loved ones. That being said, if we’re not careful people can really feel obligated to share information they’re not prepared to, or don’t want to process at the moment. This can look like “How’s your health been?” “How are you handling [life event]?” and “Why didn’t you tell me sooner?”

so now the more pleasant part! What can it look like to prioritize emotional consent instead- these correspond in order of initial bullets

  • Starting vague and asking if it’s okay an example dialogue could be “I’m feeling crappy about [blank] are you up to listen to me talk about it?” I also love to add “or should I try [alternative coping method/talking to someone else right now?]” to the end of that if I have one so the other person knows if they say no I have something to turn to. Another example could be “Would it be alright for me to vent right now? FYI it may include mentions of [possible triggers] so if you’re not up for it right now I understand?” or simply “Are you comfortable with me talking about [blank?]”. Also talking to a celebrity or idol “You really helped me with [blank]. I don’t know if you’re comfortable with detail so I won’t elaborate, but I really appreciate it.” or “You really helped me with [blank.] [An explanation about what specifically helped or inspired you in more detail rather than graphic description of the event.]”
  • Again! You can just ask example dialogue can include “Can I mention something about my sex life?” “I have a joke but it’s dirty so I want to make sure thats okay with you” “Can I say something nsfw?” “Is everyone here okay with sex mentions?”
  • Asking still works! Example dialogue can be “Thanks [petname] (are you okay with me using that or would you rather I don’t)” “Are you okay being called [petname]?” “Are you comfortable with [intimate platonic act]?” “Do you want to [intimate platonic act]?” “I’d like to [intimate platonic act] if you’d be okay with that”
  • Ask/Warn ahead of time or clarify you don’t need response example dialogue “I want to process [news event] but I know it’s heavy so I wanted to ask first” “Jsyk this article contains [possible triggers] so don’t read it if you think it’d be harmful to you]” “Can I ask your opinion on [charged topic]. If you’d rather not, I understand” “[thought or link to article] FYI no need to respond. I just wanted to share.]”
  • Show you’re appreciation in other ways using phrases that show appreciation but don’t implicate responsibility like “Thanks for being here for me whenever you’re able to” “I really appreciate being able to talk about this with you” “It means a lot to me that I can feel so comfortable and open with you” “Being able to talk about this with you has been really helpful for me and I’m really glad I was ables to.”
  • Asking with an easy out or optional response examples include “Hey, I know you’re dealing with as lot and grieving right now so I absolutely don’t need a response, but I wanted to remind you if you need support in any way I’m available and have time right now.” “Do you want to talk about [emotionally charged life event] or would you rather talk about something else right now?” “I know it’s hard to talk about these things and I understand if you can’t, but I want to remind you that when you can and want to I’m available and won’t judge you.” “Would venting be helpful or draining right now?” “What’s the best way I can support you, or are you not sure right now?”

Sorry this became a long ass post but I thought it was important. I should also add that the exception of course is therapists and counselors, crisis hotlines, or other people trained and already prepared to cope with these things. but besides that- try and emo responsibly.

Taking textbook notes is a chore. It’s tedious and boring and sometimes challenging, but hopefully these tips will help you improve your skill and shorten the time it takes you to do textbook notes!

Give yourself time: Realistically, you can’t knock out 30 pages of notes in 20 minutes. Take your time with textbook notes so they’re a good studying tool in the future. The general rule is to take how many pages you have to do and multiply it by 5: that’s how many minutes it’ll take you to do the notes.

  • Also, divide you notes up into manageable chunks to increase your productivity. I am personally a huge fan of using pomodoro timers, and I adjust the intervals for however long I need to.

Skim before you start taking notes: If time is an issue, don’t read your 40 page in depth before even picking up a pen, but make sure you know what you’re reading about by skimming a bit ahead of your notes. Read over section titles, and look at charts, maps, or graphs. Writing and highlighting as you read the chapter for the first time isn’t effective because you don’t know if a sentence will be important or not, so make sure you’re reading a paragraph or section in advance before writing.

Use the format they give you in the book to help take your notes: In a lot of textbooks, there will be a mini outline before the chapter itself that shows all the headings and subheadings. Those will be your guidelines! I find this super helpful because long chapters can be daunting to go into without any structure. If you don’t have one of those, use the headings and subheadings provided for you. If you haven’t already been doing this, it will help you so much.

Read actively: It’s so easy to “read” a textbook without digesting any information, but that is the last thing you want to do. Not only does it make taking notes a million times harder, but you’ll be lost in class discussions because you didn’t understand the reading. To keep from passively reading, highlight, underline, star any important information in the book itself.

  • Have a color coding system for highlighting or underlining and write down a key somewhere (here’s a few that you can adjust for your needs: x,x)
  • Use sticky notes or tabs to mark any questions or important points to come back to

Summarize important information and paraphrase: When taking the actual notes, don’t copy down full sentences word for word. Not only does writing full sentences waste a lot of time, it’s not an effective way to learn. If you can paraphrase the information, then you understand it. It’s also easier to study notes which are in your own words instead of textbook academia writing.

Be selective: You shouldn’t be writing down every fact that comes up in your textbook. If a fact ties into the bigger topic and provides evidence, then it’s probably something to keep, but you don’t need every piece of supplemental information (but do make sure you always write down the vocab). Learn your teacher’s testing style to help you decide what to write down. Could this be on the quiz/test? If the answer is yes, make sure you write it down.

Learn to abbreviate: Just like writing full sentences, writing out full words will waste time. Implement some shortenings (make sure to use ones that you’ll understand later!) into your notes. Some common ones are: b/c=because, gov=government, w/o=without, and here’s a great list of a ton of examples of abbreviations and shortenings.

Answer margin and review questions: A lot of textbooks have margin questions on every page or so that sum up what’s really important about that information. Make sure not to skip them because they’re really helpful for understanding. Write them down and answer them clearly in your notes. Most textbooks also have review questions after the chapter that check for reading comprehension, so make sure to answer those because they’ll show you if you really understood the chapter.

Don’t skip over visual sources: Maps, diagrams, illustrations, charts, and any other visuals in textbooks are so helpful. If you’re a visual learner, these things will be so essential to you and how you understand what you’re reading. Charts, tables, and diagrams sometimes also summarize information, so if you’re a visual learner it might benefit you to copy those down instead of writing it out.

  • Add visuals if it’ll help you: As said above, copying down charts, tables, illustrations, or diagrams can be super helpful for visual learners. They’re clear and concise, so pay attention to them.

Write your notes in a way that’s effective and makes sense to you: Mindmaps, Cornell notes, or plain outline notes are all really good forms of notetaking. Find which one works best for you to understand them and which one is most effective for your class, and use it (stuff on mindmaps and cornell notes).

Combine your class and textbook notes: If you rewrite your class notes, add in information you think is relevant from your textbook notes. Mark anything both your book and teacher said were important–you don’t want to forget any of that. If you don’t rewrite class notes, then put stars next to anything repeated.

Why I Think Momo is Kickass and You should too

So with the emergence of the anime becoming more and more popular, of course the fan base is growing and growing, I would even say to heights like seen in Fairy Tail, Naruto, etc.

However, with the series getting more popular, you are stuck with more….negative opinions about the characters that in my mind are sometimes just not necessary.

Now, this blog is normally Ochako and Kacchako and I intend to mostly keep it that way but lately, I’ve been seeing a lot of negative posts towards Momo and frankly, I’m heavily displeased by this, especially since she’s one of the most well portrayed girls in the series and it’s really heartbreaking on my end to see posts that essentially dismiss her for more shallow reasons that don’t need to be here.

I mean to start this off, are we going to simply forget that she came into UA on a recommendation and was a student that made even All Might shook when asked why Iida was the winner of the exercise

or how, even though the class didn’t know her, she was still voted to be Assistant Class President?

or how she was able to act calm and rational during the USJ villain fight?

or how she still managed to get the top grade in the midterm exams and didn’t get it to her head but actually acted BENEVOTELY and helped her classmates who asked her for help?

or how it was HER plan that got Todoroki and her to win the exam that they were fighting in?

But ya know, because of her BODY, we’re going to ignore that right? We’re going to ignore how amazing and how smart she is simply because of her body.

I won’t lie guys, I’ve heard people complaining about her quirk and even saying how bad her quirk is designed when it’s like??? It actually makes a lot of sense why it’s like that since she does create large objects like shields, spears, A FREAKING CANON, like it makes sense for her to need to use fat call throughout her body to be able to achieve that look.

Which brings me to talk about her costume. Oh boy, this is the one that when I first entered the fandom, no one really said anything but now that the series is more popular, everyone has become experts on body proportions and quirk designs and apparently fashion design since her costume isn’t good enough for her.

I mean look at the costume design that Horikoshi put in for her and how he planned that all out for her

At some point, yes I understand, Horikoshi is a pervert, sometimes his intentions aren’t the best, I get that. But consider this, even though he had the ability to make Ochako’s and Tsuyu’s costumes completely perverted, he chose against that. He had the perfect opportunity to indulge in that yet he didn’t. What I love about Horikoshi is that he thinks about the practicality of the quirks and designs the costumes based on that as well taking into consideration the character’s personality and what they would want.

So guys, at some point, reality check moment: Momo is comfortable with her body enough to wear a costume that she deemed necessary for the usage of her quirk. And she chose that design for that outfit and has not said a word about this entire series. She even had an opportunity to create it to be more closed and she chose not to. MOMO CHOSE HER OUTFIT AND VIEWS IT GOOD ENOUGH FOR HER HERO WORK.

In this moment too, I would like to share what even Midnight said during Episode 34 at the very beginning.

So another reality check: The only people who are saying it’s sexual are the people who are sexualizing her to begin with. Instead of viewing it as more of a practical thing that is designed for her quirk (which involves utilizing her fat cells and creating stuff through her skin), people begin to view as sexual and are condemning her for having a revealing costume. Which, to me personally, I find ironic since tumblr is filled with campaigns of free the nipple and the stopping of sexualization of breasts and female anatomy, yet look what’s happening here. People are taking her costume and saying she’s being sexualized for choosing a design that would give her optimal openness to use her quirk.

I mean look at how she used it in the Aizawa fight

Having that navel cavity helped her out immensely during this fight and she was able to create the alloy material in a much faster way with having access to areas where most of her fat is stored.

Which, I also heard people commenting on how Momo’s body doesn’t make sense and how skinny she is in comparison to her boobs (which I’ve seen that in real life, it’s not uncommon), but if you see in this spread

She actually isn’t the skinniest person in the world. Keep in mind that while she does use her fat cells to make stuff, she does also consume A LOT OF FOOD TOO to keep up with the level of activity too so she does get chubby sometimes so it’s a wrong assumption to think she has this INCRDIBLY PERFECT BODY WITH NO FAT when she does! Which only makes it only more natural and real!

Honestly, her entire arc in the beginning of the manga (or at least up into this exam point) has been so powerful, so realistic, and so amazingly well done.

I mean to consider, very similarly to Bakugou, while we haven’t gotten much of her backstory, given how she behaved in Season 1, we can have a somewhat assumption that she came from a great home and was well praised for her quirk. Obviously, her quirk isn’t one with a talent, she had to work immensely for it, but she must have been placed into situations where she was elevated and praised for how powerful her quirk is (like she was put in situations where she was able to be able to use her quirk to the fullest and not have much backfired).

Even Aizawa says this during their fight

Which does imply this isn’t a constant state she’s always been in, it’s one that has been gained since the sports festival (hence why the arguments that she should be shouldn’t be self confident are wrong).

Yet, with coming to UA and being in a hero course, after participating in the festival, well she starts to crumble and kind of doubt her abilities against the others

Like it starts off with her not getting a high ranking on the race

Then she mentioned the issue with the cavalry battle later on but definitely the heavy hitter for Momo was her fight with Tokoyami where she was left in shambles since she wasn’t able to make much on an impact on the fight itself (which this was amplified more in the anime than the manga itself).

Thus really bringing down her confidence. And now a lot of people screamed about how misogynist her hero training was and how demeaning it was which leads to 2 issues that some people forget about.

 1.     That there are multiple sides to being a hero. It’s not always the cookie cutter “fight villains, rescue people, rinse and repeat”. Even famous people in our society, even though their job is to act/sing/etc, they still go out and do publicity work and that’s what they do. It’s a part of being well known and using your abilities outside of the field you are in.

2.     This was all part of Momo developing. This was just another way to bring Momo down a couple more notches. It’s a bit cruel and hard but this was a way for Horikoshi to get her  out of her mindset and be exposed to something where her confidence could be lowered. Guaranteed if she was put into an actual hero training internship, she wouldn’t have been lowered as much as she did.

Which could lead the argument that it wasn’t necessary to have any of that stuff happen to her but consider, would she have gotten in this state if she didn’t have those things happen and accumulate?

And would she have gotten her confidence back from Todoroki/Aizawa and execute an amazing plan without that encouragement from those moments?

Probably not.

Ok this post is beginning to get way to long so I’m going to stop here before I go on and on and on about Momo. As much as Ochako is my best girl and I will forever sacrifice myself to her, even I have to admit Momo is utterly amazing and I only talked about what happened in the first 65 chapters. I didn’t even brush on how amazing she was during the invasion of the villains or how she managed to be a huge help in the rescue of Bakugou or even how kickass she was during the license exam (which she helped my princess Ochako and that pleased me so much). Momo is just more than the simple sexual object people are complaining her to be as, she’s an incredibly smart and amazing woman and Horikoshi put so much thought into her, more than what any of us could ever imagine. I am truly excited to see more of what she can do in the future and I hope she gains more fans since she truly deserves it.

TLDR; MOMO IS AMAZING, SEND HER LOVE YALL

What to do when you fell out with your practice

Because I sure as hell needed this post when I did.

1. Realize that it‘s okay. Accept that it happened. Forgive yourself for it.

Maybe life got in the way and you just didn‘t have the time or energy or possibility. Maybe something happened on your path that got you scared, frightened, panicked, or even disgusted so that you had to take a step back and retreat. Maybe your focus simply shifted. Maybe you got bored. Maybe everything just got overwhelming and you weren‘t able to juggle magick and the mundane at the same time. Maybe mental illness got in the way.
No matter what the reason for your fall out was, accept that it happened, forgive yourself for it. Because it‘s okay, life happens in phases, and no matter the reason, how big or how small, it‘s part of your journey and totally fine. These things happen to the best of us, so don‘t blame yourself for it. It really is okay. Pinky promise.

2. Reconnect with your god(s) and/or non-physical friends, if needed.

If you‘re a spirit companion/have spirit friends like me or are devoted to a god or certain deity/ies, your time with them/devotion to them probably fell under the brick as well. If it did, reconnect. I promise chances are they‘ll understand. As I said, life happens, and they know that too. They probably saw what you were going through. Explain what happened to them, apologize, and move on, if they allow it. Just spend more time with them again, greet them good morning and wish them good night again, invite them to join you throughout your day again. I promise, any good relationship will hold, just show that you really are sorry and put in effort to show that you care again. I’m sure they missed you as well so it’s time to make up for the time you lost!

3. Don’t overwhelm and overestimate yourself.

Chances are the longer your fall-out was, the more your “psychic muscles” lost in strength. Your intuition may be a bit more out-of-tune, you may have more trouble hearing/seeing/feeling/sensing spirits and energies. Maybe you have more trouble programing things or adding energy to objects than before. That’s okay! It’s totally fine and normal, just don’t be surprised if it happens and know that with practice you’ll be back to old strength in no time! Until then, start small and work with what you have.

4. Start small, don’t rush it, one step at a time.

Start drawing a daily or weekly card again. Start carrying crystals with you again. Start laying them out under the moon to charge again. Do small rituals like maybe doing some bath magic before you rush head-first into a huge complicated thing again! Again, you don’t want to overwhelm yourself. Also, you want to build a routine again to not risk falling out again.
Some ideas on what to do when building your practice up again:

  • lay crystals, items, water, anything out under the moon/sun to charge
  • talk to plants
  • draw a daily/weekly card
  • pick a crystal to carry with you throughout the day in the morning
  • say mantras in the morning
  • infuse your tea/coffee with intent
  • send out your energetic sensers when comfortable and at home. slowly but surely
  • meditate. 5 minutes in the evening, 5 minutes in the morning. at least.
  • go for a daily walk at a certain time
  • look through your grimoire/bos if you have one. write in it again
  • doodle little sigils in your free time
  • and many, many more

5. If needed, make a schedule.

As I said, you may want to build a routine. If those work for you, make a daily or weekly plan. Look up transits and check when you have time, then create your own magical schedule. If need be, set some reminders on your phone. Just try to be disciplined about it for a while so that you get back into your practice smoothly!

6. Reinvent your craft.

You probably changed since you last practiced, or maybe there was a reason IN your practice that caused the fall-out. If so, identify what it was. Reflect on yourself, your practice, your life. How can you make everything run together more smoothly? Maybe you want to focus more on the mundane than the spiritual, and if so that’s totally fine. Adapt your practice in a way that fits and feels good, it’s all yours so feel free to do whatever you want! Maybe you want to shift the focus IN your practice, or maybe you want to stop doing something, maybe start doing something else (instead).

(Optional) 7. Talk to others.

Sometimes it is so, so hard to not feel incredibly bad and like you fucked yourself or your life or your relationships up when this happens (and not just in relation to magic but other things as well). Please know that you’re not alone on this and if your own up-lifting thoughts and words are not enough, seek validation outside. I promise that’s not a selfish or vain thing to do, it’s natural and human and you deserve to be told that you’re doing just fine. Go to a trusted friend, family member, maybe blogger, anyone. If you want, you can always come to me. Talk to someone about how things are going now, talk to them about the things you just did to make yourself feel good about doing this.

💗 No matter what, it’s all good. I promise. These things just happen and there is no reason to blame yourself - please take good care of yourself and know that you come first - magic and everything else second.
I hope this was useful to some, I know it helped me as I’m just getting out of a fall-out, too. I hope you all have a magical day~! 💗

How To Come Out in A Conservative Society

An History Lesson on Ellen DeGeneres and Theories about BTS

First, let me start off by saying that I know this is going to piss off some people. Your precious boys can’t have a bad rumor spread about them, can they?

Well, fun fact: These rumors about idols have gone on for years, and they still have jobs. The rumors aren’t the problem, because when it comes to LGBT rumors, unlike straight rumors or controversies, Korea readily just accepts them as not possible and so someone can be rumored gay and nothing come from it, unless it was ever confirmed, so again, the rumor isn’t the problem. The lack of acceptance if said rumors are confirmed is the problem, because idols can only work if a company feels they will be able to make money. It is simple economics. If fans are not willing to accept and openly express acceptance, how can we expect a society to? How can we expect companies to feel that their artists have a market? Now I understand Korea has a thing about censorship despite fan reaction. This is a part of the problem, and it is a complicated political setting in which I do not understand and therefore cannot determine the ultimate solution.

All I can say is this:

Guys, America was not always as accepting as it is now. America did used to be like Korea, and none of the laws for the LGBT were in place. What changed? The people. If you, as fans, are so set on protecting idols that you inherently promote the idea that being LGBT is an issue, even if you don’t mean it that way, you are being problematic to the cause. Discussing it openly allows idols and even companies to see the acceptance among fans, and fans educating other fans about it allows the societies to see the change in the people. You have the power but when you so adamantly push to censor the discussion, you give the power to those who wish to not acknowledge the LGBT. Talking is good, and could really help an LGBT idol feel better about themselves if they are LGBT.

NOW ONTO THE TOPIC OF DISCUSSION!

So, BTS wants to visit Ellen. This is very interesting to me, as I have always felt a slight connection of their stories. I have a theory, but you have to actually hear me out to try and understand that this is something legitimate and not just some delusion of grandeur.

First, how many of you actually know the history behind Ellen?

Well, I am going to assume that a lot of you are younger than me. BTS is younger than me lol. So, in the 90s, Ellen DeGeneres was an American television sweetheart. People loved her. American families watched her all the time. She was really popular. She had her show Ellen, which if you didn’t know, was not the talk show she has now. It was an actual sitcom where she played a character named Ellen. She boldly made the choice ON THE SHOW to have the character come out as a lesbian, and the next day on a talk show, she came out herself.

It was a bold move in the 90′s when LGBT rights were in the shitter. Still, if you look back, she actually was quite clever and strategic. She played the every woman and that’s why families loved her, but you will see hints of her sexuality. She used her medium and talent to subconsciously familiarize her audience with the idea of her being LGBT. It took a lot of work, and trust me, her coming out was not ENTIRELY smooth, but it went quite well. She was one of the few at the time to come out and have her career thrive after.

She after that managed to have the highest viewed day time talk show that still runs today, a role in one of the most beloved children’s films, Finding Nemo. In fact, a open lesbian having a role like Dory in a children’s film at all was a huge deal. She managed to do all of this and land a deal with JC Penney and Covergirl, and her net worth is 350 million. She even for over a decade remained with her wife Portia, all while her career grew. Sure, along the way there were idiots who condemned her, but most of America loved Ellen.

All from a woman who wore short hair, gender non-conforming fashion, and openly lived as a lesbian in the 90′s. She may not be too shocking to you guys, but she did “look like a lesbian” in what people would have defined (don’t take this as my belief).

How?

Just being someone everyone can connect to! She was happy and funny and wanted the world to laugh! She showed that LGBT people are just like everyone else. They wanted their rights, and that was all. This is a discussion for an entirely different subject, but I as an LGBT can tell you that while I think people should be accepted and able allowed to behave in the manner they see fit as long as it harms no one, there is value in LGBT who are not defined by the stereotypical “LGBT” behavior and are simply just day by day people who live just like you. Ellen did not over-exaggerate her sexuality’s stereotypical behavior. There is nothing wrong with being flamboyant, but sometimes sadly, the first step to acceptance is to be able to empathize and she was the one to be able to connect to easier, and with time, starting with people like her being accepted, times changed, and now we are seeing acceptances for all forms. It isn’t perfect, and it probably never will be, but it is there. She pushed boundaries, but she did so strategically and it worked for her.

NOW LOL WHAT DOES THIS HAVE TO DO WITH BTS?

Well, if you are familiar with their music, behavior, ethical principles, and the HYYH, then you might see where I am going with this.

Firstly, I would be here for hours if I mentioned all the various moments were they referenced something LGBT or did something related to. There is the Japanese Jungkook fanboy, Glam’s Party XXO, Namjoon’s words about the issue, Yoongi and his fuckery, Troye Sivan ultimate stanning, ‘I Know’ etc, but let me continue with my point.

I feel that BTS are familiarizing their fans with the idea of LGBT within idols. Idols have always had fanservice, and idols have always had ones who professed acceptance. There have even been idols that have hinted towards ideas of LGBT in their art (like Monsta X’s All In) but if ARMYS are correct about the HYYH, there may actually be the first LGBT narrative involving idols (KWill’s Please Don’t featured an LGBT plotline but I am talking about the idol themselves being involved).

There have been hints that Yoongi and Jungkook within the narrative have a romantic plot. The HYYH Notes give this idea some light. Granted, we could be incorrect, but it does seem to be the case with the narrative text. We will have to see in the future where they take it.The Love Yourself highlights also hint at this. Then, Namjoon’s insistence on Love Yourself: Her being gender neutral. I think this is for a specific purpose as well.

Then there was the photoshoot with Jimin and Jungkook on the same rainbow unicorn float that was used at Korean Pride that same summer. I do not find this coincidental at all. There is a message, and I find that they are trying to send it in a palatable way for fans, which sadly shouldn’t have to happen, but it is the society we live in. There is the fact that they covered a song without changing pronouns, which would be ignored had it not been for the recent Namjoon comments and the fact that the BigHit survey featured more than the two genders. I think they recognize all of this. I think that this is all to familiarize fans with directly associating idol with LGBT.

They are pushing boundaries, but doing so strategically.

Now, this next part might split some people, because it involves two members together, and I know people get pissy but hear me out. Please note that while you may think I am wrong, if you believe there are other LGBT members, the former discussion still applies.

I think the recent events involving Jungkook and Jimin are not fanservice. They are real events that are used by the two for fans. Let me explain: If they are together, they are spending time together, publicly interacting, and expressing themselves more. They are doing this because they love each other, but this is shown for fans for the purpose I believe of getting fans used to the idea, so that if they did eventually come out, it would not be such a shock. Much like Ellen did. I could be entirely wrong, but I think every moment is genuine and they are just showing it to people they care about to show their love. It can be a gift to fans, but that does not make it fanservice.

As, I said, take the last two paragraphs away, and my point is still relevant, but I do believe they are utilizing this as a chance for members to come out who would not feel comfortable doing so before. I find at this point in time, the most likely is Jimin and Jungkook.

For sure, Jungkook. I always believed him to be some form of LGBT.

NOW, what does any of this mean? What does the future hold?

Well…

You got me.

If I am correct, and I believe I am, this means that BigHit and BTS will eventually tackle the idea of LGBT head on. I think an issue is with the Korea Unicef program, as it is 2 years long, and Yoongi decided not to get a tattoo to be able to do it, so what makes us think being LGBT wouldn’t be an issue, BUT who knows? They may utilize the fact that they are the current most successful Korean idol artist on a national and worldwide scale to see what can happen. Not changing the language they sing in reaches to their intent for change and being a voice for Korean youth, and utilizing the international fame allows them to bridge the youth they are reaching to with the liberalism of Western media.

The thing is in order to not kill their careers, they have to be big enough to survive it. That is why the first part of my essay is so important. Fans are the key. Our support and votes, and yes, our money, is the key to them being big enough that they are untouchable. That might not ever truly happen but it doesn’t mean we shouldn’t try. If we can have an idol who is LGBT that is as big as them, that can invoke change…

JUST LIKE ELLEN. It takes time. Things didn’t change immediately after her, but damn if life didn’t get more and more progressive. I also credit so many others for that, but this is about them.

Please, take into consideration that I put a lot of thought into this before you brush me off, BUT ultimately this is my opinion. Good Day.

The Signs as People I Know

I, as in a Sagittarius sun, Aries moon; I’m going to focus on one person I’ve personally known having each sign, so no offence.

Aries: Absolute sweetheart. She is shy and a little bit awkward in social settings, but if you’re troubled and come to her, she really listens. And she tells you things you’ve always known, perhaps, but in such a way that understanding comes in a whole different light. Passionate. Goofy. Childlike. She notices things that startle you; she’s a living, breathing poem. Honestly quite a bit of a rule-breaker, because oppressive regimes were never made for her bodacious soul.

Taurus: One of the wisest people I’ve ever known, and will ever know. Would tell you that everything in life should be tried at least twice. Loves all animals so ardently it’s inspiring. Careful. Sensitive. Brave. Doesn’t trust easy, but will carry your heart in his hands through a forest of thorns without ever letting it fall. Is such a child sometimes. Extremely ticklish. Loves ham, beef, and beautiful women. Has the most graceful writer’s stance.

Gemini: Genuinely can be such a prick sometimes. Has all these brilliant ideas but almost never follows through on execution. His mind is lightning quick and jumps from topic to topic in a manner that you are left reeling. Innovative. Inquisitive. Fickle. So ridiculous sometimes. Is in love with Heath Ledger’s Joker. Has brilliant arguments, but makes them in such a way he ends up earning enemies. Probably has a God Complex and is secretly planning to take over the world.

Cancer: She feels like solace. She will know your heartaches even before you have them, she’s that brilliantly empathetic. Everybody relates to her, so much so that at some point or the other, they’ve named her soul sister. Understanding. Soft. Smart. Achieves because she wants to, does well because she takes responsibility and handles it well. Cares so, so much. Is occasionally, um, crabby, but will never leave you hanging. Is beautiful but will not believe it. Gives the nicest hugs.

Leo: Oh my God, the literal best! (I’ve known so many and had such good experiences will nearly all, so I should know). We vibe on a different level altogether. Awesome applies to her so perfectly. Dramatic. Loyal. Bold. All she wants to do is make people laugh and be loved. Enjoys baking and make-up and exercise. Fragile self-esteem, but never lets anyone around her feel down. Cranky when she’s hungry and someone has shifted her things around. Snaps easy all the time, but comes back to her clown self just as quickly. She doesn’t like food, she loves it; a rare gustatory creature.

Virgo: Classy as fuck. Quiet, keeps to herself, reads books in class, but is capable of bat-levels of squealing when you get her going about her favourite things. Stylish. Meticulous. Poetic. She is a monster when you leave her in charge of organising something, will stress and get everything perfect to the last detail. Loves fabric shopping, is so particular about giving gifts, and makes heads turn when she walks by. Her words go through your soul like arrows.

Libra: He reminds me of Santa’s elf, he can be so merry and spreading sunshine and daisies all over the place. But he can also be so deeply unsettled about himself sometimes. Gracious. Indecisive. Friendly. Tries so hard. He’s extremely achievement-oriented and always dedicating himself to causes. But there’s a sense of being lost in him, like he doesn’t know where he’s headed. Talks to strangers. In love with love.

Scorpio: Even after so much time knowing her, it seems so hard to pin her down in words. There’s so much more to her than ever seems in my sight. Uncanny. Perceptive. Deep. She is so utterly real, yet there seems to be something so ethereal about her. Every conversation you have with her, you come out feeling like a new person. She just gets you. There’s never any awkward with her. She loves cats, takes me out for long drives and is my best friend. There’s something inherently wild to her, like a forest fire quietly burning.

Sagittarius: I’d rather have her on my team than the most accomplished person in the world, because she will trump them. She gets shit done. My undying admiration for Gal Gadot aside, she is a true Wonder Woman. Perfectionist. Hard-working. Fun. She is my foul-weather friend, the one that gets me out of my deep ruts. Honestly, she would make you feel bad for whining–she has dealt so bravely with worse stuff. Skips breakfast. Craves chocolate. Jumps into bouncy beds. Gets drunk only on gin. Adorable.

Capricorn: Now she is something else. So sorted and set in life, even though her ambition is a quieter one, it is crystal clear to her, and that’s inspiring. She lives and breathes K-drama. Organised. Cautious. Sarcastic. Her family is her number one priority, nothing comes before her love for them. Secretly a hopeless romantic. She will discuss the most serious shit with you one moment, and make you smile wide with a sardonic quip the next. Gives the best advice. Watches her diet and plans for every day so her works gets done in time for her beloved K-dramas. Pizza is her bae.

Aquarius: In all my time of knowing him, I’ve never seen him lose his grip on himself, neither crying nor getting crazy mad. You get the sense though, that if either happened, the reasons for it would have to be monumental. Unexpected. Solitary. Observant. You would never think he’s around, until he lets lose some insightful comment, or flirts based on some inconspicuous quirk. Takes pictures of his friends on the sly. Has the most aristocratic nose and stunning eyebrows and so fucking handsome, really. Secret crush.

Pisces: He’s an angel who wears the Devil’s horns with glee. The things he cares about are embedded in his heart, and since he wears it on his sleeve, the ways to hurt him are always on display. Sweet. Lonely. Lovely. Little bit of a fuckboy, but only because the world fucked him up first. Still has so much love to give. In a committed relationship with alcohol come the weekend. Smokes, and makes you itch to paint him when he does. The best goddamn hair. Books are his only religion. Terrible nicknames for people. Problematic fave.

Office-mate who loves CNN but doesn't understand how televisions work is destroyed by that which she loves most.

I work in a small office with only 6 people. The way the office is broken up I share my office with another person, so we’re essentially facing each other. It’s away from the other offices, so we’re kind of left to our own devices. I’ve been working here for about three years now, and have always gotten along with my office-mate. My old office-mate left to start a family, so I’ve been alone for a bit before they hired Marge.

Marge is what you’d find if you googled “worst office-mate.” She brings in smelly food she eats at her desk, she plays loud music in our shared space (even after being asked not to), she fights with the boss on every little thing, she’s nosy (always asking me where I’ve been when I walk back into the office, and I’ve literally caught her listening in at the bosses door). She asks me invasive questions, and when I finally snapped at her to mind her own business she acted like I’d personally assaulted her.

Sleepy!Lance + cuddly/touch starved keith = best klance

I’M SOBBING THERE’S SO MUCH TRUTH IN THAT STATEMENT,,,

Lance sighed deeply and let himself fall back on the bed. “I’m beat. Exhausted beyond limits. It feels like every time I get used to Allura’s training regimen she cranks them up another level.”

“Because that’s what she does. It’s how you get better,” Keith answered, sounding entirely unimpressed. If Lance had been any less tired he would have glared at him or something but as it was right now he was content to just groan and roll over.

“Okay, yeah, I get that but like - can’t we have a break sometimes? I think we deserve one.”

“Lotor-”

“-doesn’t do breaks, bla bla bla, I know,” Lance sighed. Keith made an irritated noise and nudged against his arm. For a moment Lance contemplated to stay spread out over the entire bed but he wouldn’t put it past Keith to just drop down onto him, so he groaned and rolled over. His body already hurt enough as it was, thank you very much.

“We can have our break now.”

“I still want a longer one but I guess you have a point.”

A dip in the mattress alerted Lance to his boyfriend joining him and he shifted to face him. The annoyance from before melted away as he made his way under the covers, pulling the blanket up to his shoulders. Lance smiled and tugged it up a little more until everything from Keith’s nose down was covered.

He looked adorable.

Wiggling closer, Lance pressed his forehead against Keith’s. “Hey, you.”

“Hey.”

Keith was smiling, Lance knew; the small crinkles at the corners of his eyes could only mean one thing. His heart beat faster in satisfaction and he stretched his neck to press a kiss to the tip of Keith’s nose. The crinkles deepened and the warmth in his chest grew.

“You’re great.”

“Hm.”

“Super great.”

“Hmh.”

“Almost as great as me.”

Choked laughter came from under the blanket and Lance felt something push against his stomach. His sleep-addled mind took a moment to understand that it was Keith’s hand playfully shoving at him. Once he realized that he tightened his grip around his upper body and trapped his arms against his chest - not that Keith really seemed to mind. If anything he seemed happy about it, he sighed contentedly and nuzzled closer.

Ah. His boyfriend was adorable

“Sleep now?” Lance asked. Keith’s reply was to hide his face against his collarbone, leaving only the top of his fluffy mullet to peak out from the blankets. Smiling down at it, Lance loosened his grip and settled into a relaxed position. His fingers skimmed through black hair as he closed his eyes.

“I love you,” he breathed out. Keith made a soft noise and tangled their legs together, one of his hands curling into the fabric of Lance’s pajama shirt.

“Love you too.”

By the time Lance’s breath evened out he was only half-aware of the gentle kiss that was pressed against his throat.

It was still enough to make him fall asleep with a smile, happy to have his boyfriend with him.

What do you think about NISAmerica's localization of Ouma's lines in general, especially in chapter 5?

Both of these questions deal with pretty much the same issue, so I’ll be answering them both together. Also, Ouma’s localization in particular is something I’ve been wanting to discuss ever since I got to about midway through Chapter 4 in particular, so now that I’m finally finished playing the localization in general, I’m glad to have a chance to talk about it specifically. I’ll be saving my thoughts on the rest of the localization for other posts, but for this one in particular, I really do want to talk about what happened to Ouma’s characterization in particular.

First and foremost, I want to say: these are my personal thoughts on the matter. I’m not here to bash on other people’s translation work, moreso with the amount of effort and detail that’s required for translation. Some of the errors that occurred throughout the course of the localization were not, in fact, due to any one translator but were instead the natural result of what happens when you have four translators working on different characters—that is to say, a simple lack of context and communication. Several lines were drastically mistranslated simply because the translators didn’t know what the character immediately beforehand had said, and this caused some confusion in the process.

However, it is a fact that much of Ouma’s characterization, particularly in Chapter 5, suffered as a result of this localization and the translation choices that were taken. In fact, some of the most important, plot-relevant scenes concerning Ouma were translated in a way that I believe makes it much more difficult for people who have only played the localization (and therefore had no access to the original lines) to understand his motivations, his thought process, or his character in general.

This entire post is going to be very, very long, namely because I tried to go in-depth and double-check all the original Japanese text before writing. I’ve bolded some of the points I felt were most pivotal to what the localization messed up. Huge spoilers for the whole game are under the read more, so be careful if you’re trying to stay spoiler-free!

See? “Evil feminism” that proselytizes KillAllMen exists and is embraced and celebrated. But if in some circumstances I say one word, JUST ONE WORD that women might NOT be perfect and precious and angelic and might actually sometimes be assholes, and people are reaching for pitchforks and crosses to crucify me.

When I was six or seven I found some books on my parents’ bookshelves about understanding your children, and I was fascinated. The books talked about emotions and internal states and desires that children had, and what actions those produced, and it was the first place I’d been exposed to the idea that people had inner lives which you could understand and then interact with them more usefully. They gave me an emotional vocabulary. They helped me make sense of my own head. I read them over and over.

There was an anecdote in one of the books which I still remember vividly. It was about a mother who was cleaning out a chest freezer which had become full of massive sheets of ice. She handed a sheet of ice to each of her kids. “Hers is bigger,” objected the son, and so the mother gave him another one, and “how come he gets two?” demanded the daughter, and so the mother tossed one at her, and after a little whole both kids were standing in waist-high piles of ice they did not want, dancing back and forth because their legs were freezing, screaming and screaming for more because it was intolerable that the other pile be bigger.

They don’t actually want ice, said the book. They want to know that they matter, and the only kind of mattering they are confident of is mattering more than the other person.

___________________________

“I’ll keep embracing evil feminism” obviously reads to me as “well, if the thing I need is evil, I don’t care, it’s mine”. This is often a healthy mindset to have. (If being gay is evil, I don’t care, I will be an evil gay. If being happy is evil, I don’t care, I will evilly be happy anyway.) Reading it as “whatever the worst most abusive thing done in the name of feminism is, I am in favor” is not reasonable. But, of course, there are people who say #KillAllMen, and I want them to be happy too. I don’t think it’s fair or charitable to read anon that way, but if anon is that way, I still unreservedly extend my desire that she have a fulfilling community that isn’t sexist and that affirms her value as a person.

And people strongly objecting to their lives and experiences being mischaracterized are not crucifying you. They’re not overreacting. They are reacting reasonably to wrong ideas which have harmed them, and which are still harming them.

And, like, fundamentally what is going on here is that you need to be confident in a different kind of mattering. You need to have a conception of how you matter and are valuable and deserve to be alive, which isn’t about whether the other pile of ice is bigger, and which you can achieve without just continually asking me to fling ice which you don’t want and which doesn’t help. You’re not alone in this. I think lots of people go into adulthood without much sense of how they matter or how they are valuable except that if they win enough competitions then they’re more valuable than the people who lost those.

The book’s recommendation was that you refuse to engage with competitive questions. “She has more food than me”? Respond “Oh, are you hungry, what do you want to eat?” “Why did he get two?” Respond “how many do you think you would like?” They didn’t phrase it this way but they wanted to teach the skill of thinking ‘what do I need’ instead of ‘am I losing the status game’.

So, like, what I need from you at this point is an answer to that question. What do you need? Which isn’t about what other people are getting? What does a community that affirms your value as a person look like? If that is too much to take on, what do you need in order to get to a place where you could think about that question?

You matter to me. I want you to have a meaningful and sustainable source of affirmation and value and happiness. If I could achieve that by flinging ice (well, blog posts) at whoever is currently objecting that their pile isn’t tall enough, you know what, I totally would, because affirmation and happiness that could be bought with blog posts would be really really great. But I don’t think it’s going to work. Past a point, I don’t even think it’s going to help. No one crucified you. No one yelled at you. People pointed out that your assertions were much stronger than “women are sometimes assholes” and mistaken, and someone told me that something I had said was sexist - which, you know, it was - and lots of people reblogged the post in the hopes it would be meaningful to other men who needed it, and while lots of people thought that you were wrong no one thought it was okay that you were suffering. And you’re pretty miserable about that outcome, and you feel like it proves your point. I think that’s a sign that this isn’t solvable with ice-throwing, because you don’t even want ice.

I hope you can think of something you do want. I want to help you make it happen.

anonymous asked:

could you maybe write something with deaf Derek? like maybe he is used to people trying to communicate by writing on paper or texting but then Stiles comes along and learns sign language so he can ask Derek out!!!!! and like he learns enough to converse and Derek is just !!!!!!!! I just need pining Stiles and soft Derek <3

Thank you for the prompt, I hope you like this little fic! (On AO3)

Stiles takes a deep breath. He’s been working on this for weeks, he’s got this.

He walks up to Derek’s table and stands in front of him, hoping to catch his attention. Derek’s already done eating, and has just started looking through his class notes, so Stiles doesn’t feel too bad about disturbing him.

When Derek glances up, Stiles points to the chair across from him questioningly. Derek gives him a little smile, nodding.

He takes the seat, then signs Hi, I’m Stiles, making sure to mouth the letters as he spells out his name.

10 Things I Learned as an Interviewer for the Interviewee

As a fourth year medical students (yikes) I was able to become an interviewer for my medical school. So yes, that means maybe someone I’ve interviewed may one day see this. Though probably not. Anyways, it was very surreal to be on the other side of the process all these years later and while I’m getting ready for interviews myself (anyone want me for residency, btw?)

A lot of expectations and previous notions about interviews that I had really did change and I can see how intricate the process actually is, and I get why we get asked the questions we do. At least somewhat better.

All experiences and interviewers are different but here are some things I think can really help out the interviewee. Maybe things you thought were hard and fast rules but aren’t or things you didn’t expect us to be looking for. Anything to help! And while this is directed at pre-meds, the advice should still general enough that anyone can use it, if they want.

Some things to know beforehand; I was part of a two-on-one interview setting which lasted 30 minutes with a few preset questions we needed to ask. The interview was blind, so we couldn’t see stats.

Take a second to observe your interviewers.

This isn’t an open invitation to judge your interviewers, but most of us are pretty telling in the way we present ourselves. If you can take a break for the nerves for a second pay attention to our introductions, our demeanor and how we’re dressed. It can give you a sense of how relaxed or stringent we may be and what our personalities may be like even if we were told to stay stone cold poker-faced. And always keep in mind who your interviewers are and what departments they’re from. It can help guide the tone we set for the entire interview.

Play off the interviewers.

Now that you’ve taken a moment to take in your surroundings use those to your advantage. If we’re playing tough, answer with strength and intention. If we’re relaxed, don’t sit so stiff and maybe get us to laugh. If you are asked thought provoking questions, take time to think about it and provide thought provoking answers. The more you work with us, the easy and more open a dialog becomes and the more personable the interview will become. It’s a great way to show flexibility and adaptation, and for the interviewers who did this well we found ourselves impressed.

If I’m offering you information, take it.

If I am telling you that I am a 4th year and I can answer your questions about rotations, classes, or student life I am literally giving you questions to ask me in the event you have forgotten all of yours. If faculty tells you which program they are a part of and what they specialize in they are opening that line of information for you. They are telling you were their interests and focuses are and you can run with that, if you like.

Please, please do your research.

We had an application who couldn’t tell us what they liked our school. Had no idea what the mission statement was or what the goals of the school were. Didn’t have a clue. I had to use my doctor face so I could stay neutral. It was bad. I get that you just want to be in medical school but come on. Point blank, there is no excuse for anyone to know nothing about the program they’re interviewing for. You should also have worked out answers for frequently asked questions. Getting stumped on classic medical school questions…it’s a big red flag. So please plan ahead and do your research.

Pick the length of your answers carefully.

Different types of questions prompt different types of answers. There are a lot of questions that can prompt follow up questions. Hobbies for example; going into every detail about your hobbies is probably counterproductive. But that’s assuming you have a fair amount of things you like to do that aren’t medicine. You can add a snip here and there, like “I’ve done that for 15 years” or “it’s really a huge passion of mine” but if there is interest in hearing more, we’ll most likely ask. If you only have one thing, don’t think “I like running” is a good enough answer. Give us something to work with. There are questions, especially theoretical ones or tell me a story situations that are meant to be longer. And always keep in mind your time limit.

Be confident, not cocky.

There is a huge difference between smug and confident. We had one prospect who gave this shit-eating “gotcha” grin after every question they thought they had aced. It was almost like they were trying to directly challenging me. It got to the point that I stopped caring what they were saying and was just getting pissed. The answers could have been great (they weren’t) but all that stuck with me was the cockiness. Not sure if you do that unintentionally? That’s what practice interviews are for. There are very clear differences when someone was proud of an answer and were pleased, and what this individual was doing. And if you do act that way, personally, I don’t want you representing my school, regardless of what your application looks like.

I don’t care about the “right” answer. I care why.

I know there are certain questions answers that are kind of set in stone. And I know straying too far from say, an ethics question, is hard to do in a new and unique way. The way to make yourself stand out from the crowd is to explain the reasons why you believe this to be the “right” answers since those tend to differ among applicants and shows your critical thinking skills past “well obviously this is the right answer”. Aside from that most interviewers don’t have specific expectations for most questions. We’d rather just hear about you and your personal experiences, honestly.

We’re not always looking for your spoken answer.

Sometimes we’re looking at your body language. I will purposefully ask questions I know there are only a few answers too. Not because I want to know if you know it, but rather how you viscerally respond. Do you look uncomfortable when answering an ethics or grades question? Did you answer robotically? Are you still looking at me? Can you pick yourself back up after a rough question? What you do speaks just as loud as the things your saying and I’m looking for it.

Use your personality and responses to show you want to be here. Not your grades.

This was not an isolated event. I had a few prospective students speak about a class and sneak in “which I got an A in” and continue. Not really a fan of that. I naturally assume that everyone we interviewed had good enough grades and scores because, well, you’re at the interview. At this point in the process all I want if for you to shine beyond those things and prove to me that you can be a doctor on paper and in person.

Make me feel connected to you.

In the end, I want to feel like I know who you are. I want to know what you stand for and I want to experience the person who wants to become a physician. I want to appreciate your story and how far you’ve come. We don’t need to become best friends, we don’t need to have similar thoughts or values or personalities. But I want to feel like we could understand each other now and in the future. Let me be excited about you and for you. Let me want you to be here so I can check accept.

I hope someone was able to get something useful from this because for all of you here dying to enter this crazy profession I want you to reach your goals. I really do, and I’m just doing all I can on the internet. Good luck to everyone on your interviews!

bit of a rant

ya know what im really tired of?

fandoms demanding ships from show creators/crews

are ships.. really so important that you’re gonna just harass the people that gave you this material in the first place. make them hate fandoms in silence and worse make them hate what they create? this is especially irksome when its directed towards a)disney shows and b)shows with heavy plot. im not really directing any of this towards any show in particular mind you, theres far too many fandoms going after this trend to single any out at this point, there are some high contenders though.

more under the cut because this rant ran away from me and became way longer than intended

Gimple Rant

Dear Mr Gimple (because my parents raised me to be polite, for no other reason),

until I came across you and the way you are running The Walking Dead, and treating the actresses and actors you have the honor of working with, I used to think that there was some level of basic respect and decency with which people treated one another when in a professional relationship.

You have forced me to realize that this is not, in fact, the case.

I can fully understand not wanting your work spoiled to fans by the spoiler sites (although I don’t understand the way you are going about it, but we will get to that, bear with me). But your ACTORS?

Melissa McBride said in an interview that there are scenes in which she would definitely have acted differently if she had known in advance what Carol was going to do JUST ONE EPISODE LATER. So apparently you are keeping even your actors in the dark about their character arcs, for fear they might … do what, exactly? Spoil their own hard work by leaking what was going to happen? This is how much you trust the people you are working with?

And that is not the worst of it.

During his final season on the show, you wrote Steven Yeun’s character, one of the fan favorites since the show’s very first episode, out of most episodes by making him hide under a dumpster so you could then - tadaaa! - reveal that he was still alive several episodes later, after having Steven Yeun removed from the opening credits to make your hoax more believable.

You never gave him - or Lauren Cohan - the opportunity to show Glenn and Maggie’s reaction to finding out that she was pregnant, and this after they were shown anxious over taking this step just two seasons previously. What had caused their change of heart? What had made them take this step, despite the overwhelming odds they were facing in this world? What gave them hope?

This was just one instance of the audience not getting to see their favorite characters’ reaction to a momentous event that many had been eagerly expecting.

And then you killed Glenn off needlessly. There were, to a creative mind, many different ways that night in the clearing could have played out, yet you chose to go with the comics, and you went after the fans who were trying to find out how the cliffhanger was going to play out with lawyers and threats instead of just asking them to not spoil this scene, the way Chandler Riggs did - with respect not just for the character that was going out, but for the fans of the show who had been keeping it alive for several years at this point.

And Glenn’s death wasn’t the heroic moment that both he and Steven Yeun deserved but a gorefest that even hardened rated R game and movie fans do not care to watch a second time. After Steven Yeun was forced to smile and give interviews and play with toy bats during ComicCon. After he had been forced to smile and say he had no idea what was going to happen for one year after being informed by you about the way Glenn was going to go out.

It’s a sad but oft proven fact that you only give characters screen time in your writing when it serves the plot, that you force them into plot lines that do not really fit the characters after their on screen development because you want to adhere to the comics more strictly, and that you do not care to add to the scenes that are the most memorable to long time fans from previous seasons that are there “only” to show the characters’ inner worlds, their thoughts and views, their reaction to things - scenes that help the audience understand them, understand their reactions in later episodes even without explanations, that help the audience relate to and identify and bond with characters. Ultimately, this bonding, this caring for the characters is what keeps TV shows alive from one season to the next.

And it seems that this is something you do not care for.

You show the characters when you need them for the plot, sometimes having them do or say things that run completely against what we know about them from previous seasons, and then have them disappear again for entire episodes. This might be one reason why fans find it hard to relate to newer characters if they haven’t read the comics and have already been waiting for them for several seasons, prepared to love and embrace them as soon as they show up. In so doing, however, you are leaving behind the large part of the audience that hasn’t read the comics and never will, the mainstream audience that has made The Walking Dead the ratings hit it used to be. They stay invested in the characters that were introduced by a different team of producers and writers because they aren’t given new characters to get just as invested in.

And then you kill those characters we love off one by one, for shock value.

I get it. We have been criticizing this show online for years. Reading our rants about plot holes, inconsistencies, character assassinations, ship baiting without ever delivering, even without giving the ship in question more than a one minute interaction over half a season after relying heavily on it for promotion of season 8, can’t always have been fun.

Then again, neither has watching TWD been fun in several years now, and that is why the ratings have been going down steadily. We have grown very tired of characters we love being forced to go through the same painful arcs again and again and again without a minute of happiness in between. And we are tired, as people experienced in consuming media of all kind, of getting dismissed by you as “toddlers throwing tantrums” who were “too stupid to get it” when voicing legitimate criticism, of you treating the fans who made this show what it was with as little respect as the actors working for you.

And now you HAVE deviated from the comic, in contrast to the cliffhanger ending, in order to kill off another of the original Atlanta characters, again in a way not worthy of the character and the actor who put his heart and soul into playing him. And this time, apparently, you lied to him and and his parents about how much longer you would be employing him for this show. Let’s savor this one, shall we? You, his employer, lied to a teenager about how much longer he was going to be your employee.

And then you fired him.

And this young man went on to show a great deal more of respect to the spoiler sites than you did when going after them over the 701 cliffhanger. He asked them nicely, and they honored his request. He treated his fans with respect, and they reciprocated in kind.

How does it feel to be like this? To disrespect your employees and the fans of the show they help you create to such an extent?

How does it feel to have run one of the most successful shows on TV into the ground by not listening to what its fans wanted - the people you depend on for ratings?

How will you feel when everyone working on this show will be out of a job if AMC refuses to renew it for another season? To never see your grand vision play out on screen because you ruined a show for fans who were truly passionate about it by refusing to listen to them?

I don’t envy you.

anonymous asked:

nah, hogwarts houses are abt what a character values. lance is a slytherin hes got so much ambition and values it. keith values found fam a lot but hes really closed off, sorting hat would be split between gryff or huff. pidge is slytherin through and through, broke into the garrison. hunks a gryff bc like, balmera and hes really blunt. shiro is a hufflepuff for sure "patience yields focus". coran is ravenclaw head. alluras... idk hatstall seems legit but she would ask for gryff

Anon, you get me :’)

I apologize for the long-ass response below, I just like 2 talk.

  • Lance went into Hogwarts wanting to be a Gryffindor bc he’s a half-blood or muggleborn who has only ever heard abt how badass/heroic Gryffs are (the HP universe is biased towards Gryffs okay don’t argue with me on this). Lance got off the train bragging about how he’d be in Gryffindor only for the Sorting Hat to shout out ‘SLYTHERIN’ the second it touched his head.
    • Lance held up the entire class for a good three minutes because he was arguing w the Sorting Hat lmfaoooooo however Lance realized Slytherins were ballers by the second day and he now has an intense amount of house pride.
  • Keith is very similar to Lance in that he always figured he’d be a Gryffindor?? Like, people would always tell him ‘oh you’re a Gryff for sure’ and Keith would just shrug and go along with it, but deep down something didn’t really… fit. Because Keith is many things. He can be reckless and impulsive and oftentimes relies more on instinct than logic, but that doesn’t automatically translate into bravery. Keith doesn’t think of himself as a hero.
    • So when he got to the Sorting Hat 11yo Keith was sort of… resigned to his fate. He was very, “Let’s get this over with.” Which the Hat noticed. And the Hat knocked on his head and said, “What do you want?”
    • The thing Keith wants, above all, is a family. But he’d never admit that out loud. Fortunately, the Sorting Hat is some omnipotent being who can hear all your thoughts (for better or for worse), so it sent Keith to Hufflepuff, where he could be with his brother (Shiro).
    • The idea was, Shiro’s the one best-suited for helping Keith come out of his shell, Shiro is loved by his House, so through him Hufflepuff can learn to love Keith. This plan kind of worked out?? Like Keith sometimes refuses to meet Hufflepuff halfway, but it’s a work-in-progress.
  • Pidge is a Slytherin like y’all… Lance and Pidge are bona fide Slytherins, through and through. Pidge actually broke tradition with her House placement because the Holts are like a… legendary Ravenclaw family. I like to believe it’s because Pidge actually takes more after her mom than her dad, at least in terms of personality LOL.
    • People often assume loving your family is strictly a one House kind of thing (Hufflepuff) but?? There are nuances. I’ll try to explain it by highlighting the differences between Keith and Pidge. In season 1, Pidge tries to leave the team so she can find her dad/brother, because to Pidge family trumps everything. Keith, however, understands that there’s no point in saving your family if you let another family die. Keith basically values all lives equally (or at least in theory). So in an ironic moment, it seems like the Hufflepuff is more pragmatic than the Slytherin, lol.
    • Slytherin demands ambition, loyalty, and a stubborness that’ll carry you through any challenge. Lance is an ambitiously loyal Slytherin, while Pidge is a loyally stubborn one.
  • Again, Hunk is a student who went into Hogwarts with preconceived expectations. Like, Hunk is the Neville Longbottom of this story. He grew up with other wizarding kids who never stfu about the bravery of Gryffindor, the power of Slytherin, the brilliance of Ravenclaw, and the kindness of Hufflepuff. And Hunk, well. He didn’t think of himself as particularly brave, or powerful, or brilliant (even though he literally has 10/10 In All Of Those), but he did value kindness, and he tried to be kind every day. So, y’know, Hunk thought he was a shoe-in for Hufflepuff.
    • HE’S NOT. MY BOY IS A GRYFFINDOR. Here’s the cheesy answer: there is bravery and strength in being kind. There is wisdom in being kind. Kindness for the sake of kindness is the greatest virtue of all.
    • Here’s the realistic answer: Hunk is a goddamn mountain of a person. He is the man who can’t be moved. Can you out stubborn a rock?? No. Can you out-crush a rock?? No.
    • Hunk isn’t brave because he wants to be a hero. Hunk is brave because, when others are in trouble, someone has to do something. Hunk is brave because he is too kind and too gentle to be anything but.
  • People are always surprised when Shiro reveals he’s a Hufflepuff because he seems like a model Gryffindor. He’s a leader, he’s calm under pressure, he’s a hero. That just screams Gryff… right?
    • In case you haven’t realized, the moral of this story is that You Don’t Have To Be A Lion To Be A Hero.
    • Shiro’s explanation is going to be kind of short bc I’m more of a casual ‘yeah, he’s a Huff’ kind of person. Shiro is basically the Cedric Diggory of this au in more ways than one lol.
    • The gist of it is that Shiro is just this kind dude who isn’t in it for glory but rather to just?? Pull through?? If everyone is alive and only mildly traumatized at the end of the day, that’s a win in Shiro’s book. In terms of like, survival, Gryffindors are more jump into action, Slytherins and Ravenclaws make a detailed plan, and Hufflepuffs know to take things one day at a time.

Tbfh I am too tired to analyze Allura and Coran but ur right anon in that Allura is a 15-minute hat stall who chose to go to Gryffindor (like her pops!!!!). Coran is the Head of Ravenclaw (or slotted to be, maybe the human equivalent of the Green Lion is the Head rn. I don’t know or really care).

Anyway I’m going to end this post here so I can go get dinner. Good yard everyone.

Lance's Love Interest

Okay guys. I could write a dissertation on why I think Keith will be Lance’s love interest, but that’s pretty much already been done. So what I do want to talk about is why Lance’s love interest won’t be Allura.

Before I get into this, I feel obligated to say that I’m a big ol’ bi sexual. Meaning that I’m not against this ship because ew girls. I’m not against it at all. Sure, I don’t ship it, but personal feelings about a pairing have no basis in cannon analysis.

Lets start with Lance’s vlog

What I got from the vlog is that nobody lies to Lance like Lance lies to Lance. Like seriously, how Lance can breathe beyond those Layers of Bravado is beyond me. He spends the majority of the vlog talking about how Allura probably does like him because he’s such a lady killer and yada yada yada, bull shit, bull shit, bull shit. You get the picture.

But then there’s this moment.

It’s legitimately sweet. Lance is gushing not about how he’s going to win over Allura or how awesome he is but about why he likes her so much. Only then he catches himself and goes right back into his Wow I’m So Awesome mode.

Then directly after this, he starts talking about how he’s not ready to settle down, which is… strange. Yeah, you could argue that Lance is saying this because he’s young, but the way it’s presented makes it seem like he’s covering something up, especially when you take into consideration Lance’s How to Fall in Love guide.

Lance loves love, not just as an end goal, but as an continuous endeavor. He understands it’s hard work, but he wants to put in that work. Lance wants to be in love.

What I’m getting at here is, Lance really likes Allura, but I think deep down he knows she doesn’t return those feelings. I mean, hes all like, ’Pff, yeah, of course Allura thinks I’m awesome, but sorry babe, can’t hold this stud down’ directly after we see him swooning over her, and honestly, how more obvious can it be that he’s hiding his real feelings/over compensating?

Lance knows Allura probably wont ever return his feeling and us as the audience knows that too. Or at least we should. Seriously, if I could say there was one thing I really have against this pairing, it would be the fact that Lance continues to flirt with Allura despite her obvious discomfort with it. The only reactions to his flirting we’ve ever gotten from Allura are disinterest and down right disgust. Meaning, his feelings are not returned.

Oh, but you might say, well they could be one day, and that’s where I’m going to have to disagree with you. I really don’t think Allura would just suddenly start to have feelings for Lance, not when there hasn’t been an ounce of romantic subtext between them and especially not when taking into consideration some of the comments made by the creators and voice actors.

Jeremy Shada said that Lance still thinks he has a chance with Allura, heavily implying that he doesn’t. The creators said that Lance would end up with someone he needed, not wanted.

Even if you ignore the blatant fact that Lance has wanted Allura from the beginning, it still makes this scene and Lance’s choice of words really interesting.

Lance straight up said that “Sometimes we don’t get what we want” while talking to Blue. And who is Blues new Paladin? That’s right! Allura! She even walked in right after he said it.

I know this has already been said, but just for the hell of it, let me point out that they also said Lance would end up with someone self assured, something Allura is not. She doubts herself more than any other character and has from day one. In fact, it’s Lance - one of the most insecure characters in the show - who gave her the confidence she needed in the season 4 final.

Now I really want to talk about this scene. I’ve heard people say that it parallels the ‘We are a good team’ moment from season one, and like, totally. It does, but apart of what this scene accomplished - at least to me - was solidifying the fact that Allura does not have feelings for Lance.

Lets break it down: There’s the obvious differences between these scenes. Keith and Lance’s has soft background music, unnecessarily long eye contact, fond smiles, a purple background (the combination of their respective colors), and a total mood shift. Its filled with romantic subtext and is also brought up later on several occasions. Lance and Allura’s moment had none of that.

Something less obvious Id like to point out is that if these scenes do parallel each other, then Lance would be the Keith in this situation and Allura the Lance. You may not agree with me, but I’m pretty positive that Keith has been low key pining for Lance since season one, which is fitting, because Lance has been pining for Allura. In Keith and Lance’s scene, Lance is drawn in by Keith whereas Allura merely glances back at Lance and then brushes him off. Insinuating that while Lance and Keith’s scene is a big moment to both of them and could be the start of feelings that Lance may go onto reciprocate, the same can not be said for Allura and Lance’s scene. In summary, Allura - being the Lance in this situation - did not show the same interest that Lance showed to Keith in their scene.

You could say that the situation was dire, and yeah, you’d be right, but for one, they don’t show us parallels for nothing. They’re used as a means to compare and contrast. Two, Keith straight up almost got his ass handed to him in the midst of a battle all because he was too busy making doki doki eyes at Lance. Meaning circumstance isn’t really an issue when dealing with this sort of thing.

The last thing I want to point out is, while Allura never reciprocates Lance’s advances, Lance - in his own self deluded, deny the bi, sort of way - does reciprocate Keith’s. First off, it should be heavily noted that Keith’s interest in Lance is much more subtle than Lance’s interest in Allura, because as we all know, Keith has abandonment issues, walls, and all that fun stuff. He doesn’t parade around his interest because he probably doesn’t see it ever being returned, not realistically.

But he’s wrong and here’s why: Lance feels inferior to the entire team, so the idea that he goes around challenging Keith and constantly vying for his attention out of pure jealousy/a need to prove himself makes no sense. If that were the case, he would behave that way towards everyone. Granted, Lance did think that Keith thought he was better than Lance, but in season two, Lance said, “I guess no one else thinks that” in regards to his marksmanship. Meaning Lance thinks that the rest of the team thinks hes not as talented as them also, and yet he treats them the same way he always has. Lance is literally obsessed with Keith, especially in season one. He’s the embodiment of the boy pulling on the girls pigtail to get her attention.

He also talked about Keith in admiration when he wasn’t around, wearing a similar face to that of the one he wears when hes flirting. Hell, he wears that same expression every time he teases Keith, but when he does it here, paired with this praise, we know it’s meant to be interpreted as a fond expression.

(also note that his expression morphs to this when he starts talking about Keith and only Keith despite the fact he’s praising the entire team)

He admires Keith. He wants Keith’s attention and respect. He flirtatiously banters with him. He goes to Keith when making important decisions about his future and place on the team. He expresses ambiguous jealousy every time Keith is with a girl.

Allura does none of this. So if you want to say that she could possibly reciprocate Lance’s feelings then you have to say the same for Lance towards Keith.

Look, my purpose here isn’t to dissuade anyone from shipping Allura and Lance or to down said shippers. I’m just trying to analyze cannon material and reach an conclusion. So my final theory on the matter of Lance’s love interest is that Lance has feelings for both Keith and Allura. He just doesn’t get that he has feelings towards Keith for the same reason he doesn’t want to admit he knows Allura doesn’t like him romantically. He likes to keep a lot of things tucked away in his head and chooses ignorance over introspection until those thoughts some how make it to the forefront and he’s forced to do otherwise. I think in season 5 the vlog will come into play and we’ll see the summation of Lance’s feelings towards Allura, but I have little to no doubt that it will not go the way he hopes it will.

And hey, if I’m wrong, I’m wrong. More power to you Allura and Lance shippers.

in this together.

I know you probably have a lot of requests rn but my hometown Ventura is on fire and I’m out of town for college and i’m freaking out, i just feel really small and afraid and kind of lonely without my family and friends. Do you think you could write a Billy fic where someone from his hometown who he went to school with has to come to Hawkins to live with family for a bit because there was a huge fire in their hometown and their home was taken? It wasn’t that you and Billy weren’t friends, per say, but your mom had been best friends with his stepmom, and everyone who’d gone to your high school had known how that had gone over. So you were automatically on the side of the opposition, in his eyes. He wasn’t cruel, or anything like that. Just cold, mostly.

But then he moved away and you really didn’t think about him that much.

And then one thing lead to the next, and you were standing outside of the Hargrove’s house in some small town in Indiana. You tried your hardest not to read into it, but all the leaves had fallen off of the trees, leaving them looking brown and dead. There was a sharp chill in the air, one you weren’t used to. You tugged your thin jacket closer to your body as Max passed you and headed into the house.

You’d been there a week and you still felt like an outsider. There was an uncomfortable tension that swamped the house the second that Billy’s father arrived home. It’s not that anything specific happened, but there were looks and words spoken in harsh whispers and the way that Max would sometimes flinch whenever her stepfather raised his voice even a little.

You followed behind her, listening as Billy slammed his car door shut. Your heart gave a little ache as you stepped inside. You knew that your parents hadn’t meant for this to be a bad thing. Times were tough. Your family didn’t have a place to stay, and it was easier for your parents to send you away for a little while so they could get back onto their feet. It just so happened, though, that the nearest place with people who would take you in, was in Indiana.

“You gonna stand there all day, Y/N?” Billy’s gruff voice invaded your thoughts.

“What? Oh, sorry,” you said, scurrying towards the kitchen where Max’s mom could be heard. She was a nice enough woman, but she seemed a little fake, if you were being honest. You snagged an apple from the fruit bowl on the counter, watching idly as Max and her mom caught up with each other.

It wasn’t that you were jealous. You just missed your family and your friends and Hawkins was small enough that it was kind of hard to make new ones, especially when half of the school was terrified of you merely because you were living with the King of the Douches himself. It was kind of ridiculous, really. Billy Hargrove was a lot of things, but you really couldn’t find it in yourself to be afraid of him. You’d seen him when he was seven, and sobbed when he found out Santa wasn’t real.

So you went about your business, keeping your head down as you went to your classes and ate your lunch and kept quiet. When you’d get to the Hargroves after school, it was much of the same thing. Max was either in the room that the two of you shared, or off with her friends. Billy would be hanging around the living room watching TV or lifting, but the second his dad showed up, he disappeared into his room for the rest of the night. And the Hargrove parents really didn’t seem like the type to want to hang out and talk to you about your day.

You spent the rest of the night quiet, working on homework and staring at your plate during dinner. By the time the dishes and silverware were washed, Max had retreated to her bedroom to start on her homework. You lingered by the kitchen sink, adjusting the dish towel that was hanging off the rack when you heard it.

“What the fuck is wrong with you?” The words were spat out, harsh and glaring in the otherwise quiet of the house.

“I don’t know what you mean.” There was a pause. “Sir.” You frowned, tilting your head in the direction of the hallway. You’d heard Billy sound like a lot of things, but never like that.

“It’s a school night, and you’ve got your keys in your hand, acting like you’re getting ready to go do who knows what. Unless you’ve got a damn good excuse, you’re going to your room and you’re going to learn some goddamn respect, do you understand me?” There was no response from Billy, but then you heard it.

A hard, resounding slap.

“Where the hell are you going?”

“Billy, you ready to head out?” The words left your mouth faster than you could really think about them. But your feet carried you towards the hallway, pausing once you reached Mr. Hargrove and Billy. The two of them stared at you, slackjawed, but you just plowed through, acting as though you hadn’t heard anything. “Seriously, thank you for taking me into town. You are a lifesaver.”
