i can ship real life people

throwsherbet  asked:

Hi! I love your blog. It is great to find a Taejin blog 🤗 i can't figure out how this ship is so slept on. I have a feeling this comeback is gonna be awesome and am looking forward to more moments like we have had recently 😁

Hey Throwsherbet,

Thank you so much for the lovely compliments on my blog, I really appreciate it. Yeah, Taejin is absolutely beautiful, completely obvious, truly real and yet pretty much overshadowed by the majority of BTS ships.

Your question: “i can’t figure out how this ship is so slept on.“

Two reasons:

1. Collective ship denial

Taejin is left alone since a huge portion of this fandom seems to believe that V’s life exists exclusively to gravitate the maknae line while Jin is either RM’s wife or/and everybody’s mom, with no masculinity, sexuality or choice at all. To this vast majority of people even Jin kissing V on stage can be called “a mother and son” moment.

Also like this week, Jin literally being a soft little spoon boyfriend on V’s bed but being sadly ignored by the fandom just cause in their minds all that is real is V’min and V’kook ship war, like I still cannot believe people were actually arguing about what was more valid: Jimin hugging V or Kookie filming V. Why was everybody blinded by the fact V looked at Jin’s face like that?! That he caressed Jin’s face and then rested his hands on Jin’s shoulders so lovingly? That he locked his legs around Jin’s hips his like that!? That Jin was his little spoon and had no inhibitions in jumping on V’s arms? That Taejin was so into in their own usual bed dynamic that Jimin disappears like a pillow between them? That V did not searched for Jimin’s face? That the bed moment was so alien to Jimin that he had to bromance up and hit taejin’s bottoms and awkwardly laugh like he was self-conscious of the intrusion? Like you don’t have to be an expert or anything to see what was on that video. Don’t get me wrong, the Jimin Third Wheeling in bed thing was super cute but that’s so bonkers, this collective Taejin denial in favour of the maknae ships.

So you can understand a little bit better, even to this day people still mock and ignore Taejin’s romantic interactions saying both are cheating on Namjoon and Kookie and Jimin. On the surface, the ship push doesn’t seem to bother Jin but for V the miscomprehension of the nature of their relationship might be the reason for his long well documented battle against any Nam’jin push (see all my Tae vs. NamJ*n masterposts), the uncontrollable possessiveness and his ever growing need to be as vocal as possible about being Jin’s significant other.

2. Collective heteronormative denial

On every fandom there are the heteronormative ones who choose to live in their own reality. Hugely successful artists as BTS have to understand and “work” with the fantasy that they provide to this fraction of the fandom (especially in the conservative asian market) who deeply believe and consume the dream of the boys heterosexuality. The band and the management are clever enough to present the fandom a “clouded” concept like HER, using the female gender to suit the heteronormative audience while making a gender neutral album with extremely “rainbow” lyrics like Taejin’s favourite Best of Me.

Personally, I prefer Taejin as a ship not being as pushed as the pop fan service ships. Our two shinning stars can have the freedom to be themselves and keep on their mutual adoration bubble without the fandom bothering them too much. In that sense I think the collective blindness on Taejin are a safe lucky destiny to Jin and V, esp being who they are and living where they live.

Comeback has already been awesome and I feel we will be seeing a lot of Taejin on Love Yourself era.

Tks again and have a Taejin pic to sweeten your day darling!

Lots of love.

PS: I love Jin + RM and maknae line interactions a bromance and I’m not saying every V’kook and V’min shippers are attackers, but we all know there are “those ewww people” (esp in the pop ships) who just cannot even let other ships breathe. As I said tons of times in the past, ships are here to bring happiness and there is plenty of room to everybody’s tastes and convictions without attacking other people’s opinions. It’s all about fun and love.

Asterin Blackbeak💕

general opinion: fall in a hole and die | don’t like them | eh | they’re fine I guess | like them! | love them | actual love of my life

hotness level: get away from me | meh | neutral | theoretically hot but not my type | pretty hot | gorgeous! | 10/10 would bang

best quality: her devotion, loyalty and love for Manon. Seriously people who have ‘Asterin’ in their life are lucky as fuck

worst quality: Asterin and worst quality can’t be in the same sentence. She’s perfect let’s be real

ship them with: GAVRIEL OMFG! Gavriel is such a dad to cadre and Asterin is kind of mom to Manon and Elide. And they both needed to leave their loved ones (and then they lost them) because of stupid Maeve and Matron and ugh. Plus the image of Asterin being a step mom to Aedion is the best thing ever. I NEED THIS!

brotp them with: Elide and Fenrys

needs to stay away from: what she needs to do is to cut Matron’s head off

crack ship: Kashin. He’s my second choice if Astriel doesn’t sail!

send me a character!

Do’s and Don’ts of shipping REAL people

Shipping is okay with real people when it’s done respectfully. Here are MY do’s and don’ts of shipping real people:

DO: make fanfics and fanart. It’s a great way to improve your writing and drawing skills and it’s a fun way to express yourself.

DON’T: send the people involved in the ship said fanfics and art unless it’s ASKED for. It can make them uncomfortable, and put a strain on their friendship, which no one wants. (Especially you!)

PRO TIP: If you have fan art that is all friendship and not romantic/sexual, send it to them! Everyone loves a drawing of themselves!

Examples: Minicat, H2ovanoss, and Phan.

DO: Spread positivity! Compliment each others fanfics and artwork. Support each other’s headcannons and opinions!

DON’T: Hate on someone’s fanfic or fan art if it display’s something you’re uncomfortable with, such as smut and/or triggering content. Although, said fanfics should be tagged accordingly and given the proper warnings.

PRO TIP: If you see fan art promoting any vile and inappropriate issues, REPORT IT.  For example, a fanfic that someone wrote for a fandom I was in, was promoting Pedophilia and that IS NOT OK. Please take proper measures to get the fanfic promoting serious issues such as pro-rape, pedophilia, romantization of self-mutilation, and etc. removed.

Examples of this are in banana bus squad EVERY FANDOM.

DO: Send sweet tweets and comments that contain something along the lines of; “You two are so cute!” “I love your friendship!” and other sweet comments like that.

DON’T: Send tweets and comments that say something like, “They’re definitely fucking” “Are you two dating?” “Are you guys gay?” “I bet they secretly like each other! Look at all this evidence!” “You and your girlfriend/boyfriend need to break up so you can date [insert name here]!” and other comments along the line of those. It’s rude and disrespectful and makes them feel uncomfortable.

PRO TIP: If someone in your ship starts dating someone else, DO NOT ATTACK THEM. It’s rude, awful, and down right just nasty. It’s an extremely childish thing to do. Respect their partners like you would your favorite person.

Some examples of ships that have grown apart in real life because of excessive shipping and hate being sent their romatic partners are: Troyler, Septiplier, and H2ovanoss.

DO: Make friends within the fandom and have healthy discussions about other ships, headcannons, and posts.

DON’T: Attack someone if your OTP is their NOTP. Do not put hate on headcannon’s and fanfic about how “They would never do that in real life”. Fanfiction and headcannons are suppose to be fun. The way people write their fics are their own choice and maybe be inspired by things they have dealt with in the past. I know that when I write fanfics they can get a bit ooc because I focus on the story line, rather than the people I’m writing it about.

Some examples of shippers that have hated on others for the reasons above are: Destiel, Phan, and Jaspar.

Above all, keep the shipping, the fanfics, and the romantic/sexual fan art in the fandom. If they wanted to see it, they would ask for it, or find it themselves.

Also have fun and ship responsibly/respectfully!

Shipping a Problematic™ ship

The first time you get hate because ´you can´t ship that

The second time

And then it happens again

And again

Do you hate X character? Or do you have a weird real-life fetish? Do you want that kind of relationship for YOURSELF?

Ugh I hate when people Romanticize™ …

You DO realize you are basically supporting ABUSE RIGHT?

But how…

You are disgusting

People like you are the reason-

And, in the end, you keep shipping despite the hate

And creating amazing and complicated work

Because you rock

So don´t let hate get to you, and keep shipping whatever you want. Bless you.

puffyball13  asked:

I loved billdip for a long time but often other fans of gravity falls said mean and rude things about it and to those who ship it? As a fellow shipper, I ask for your wisdom to tell me why?

Hello sweetheart, I’m sorry for taking so long to reply you.

For your question, I pretty much don’t want to discuss about this publicly but I think it would be better if I say it out one more time.

As much as I hate to admit this but BillDip is neither the most popular ship AND the most hated ship in this fandom, the reason can be summarized in one word: pedophilia - which stands for a relationship between an adult with a child. Others reasons is about abusive relationship or some sort.

If you ever want an advice from me, let me tell you one thing, that is certainly important to remember if you ever see someone harrassing the ship again: they are fictional characters. None of the thing we artists/authors draw/write are real, it’s just our own imaginations.

Sure when I say this some of you might wonder: “Then it’s okay to ship pedophilia with fictional characters because it’s your imagination?”. If I answer this in my very opinion, I’m the kind who would like to build a proper relationship for the couple I like so I can avoid all the bad things happen to them, but if I answer this in the role of all BillDip shippers, I must say yes and no, cause we all people and we have weird tastes in something sometimes but that not mean we support/are that kind in real life, fiction and real life are really, really different, please remember. It’s like watching some Disney movie which make you wondering “How the heck can two characters fall in love in like one day?”, but yet you still ship them. Yeah, that’s pretty much it mate, fiction don’t happen in real life.

So if someone don’t like the ship please just move on, this fandom is not about us shippers so don’t pull the rage to you by yourself just because you don’t like it or want people to stop shipping it, trust me, they won’t stop…

I’m sorry but if someone told you that they were interested in pedophilia in real life you would sure as hell be making a call to the authorities. Why is it different when someone is saying that they are interested in pedophilia in fandom? It’s all gross and can actually hurt people.

Your fandom needs are not more important than people’s safety. No I don’t defend your right to ship pedophilia and you absolutely shouldn’t support those ships. End of story.

Alright people, let’s get something straight:

Now, I’ve both made and reblogged posts of this nature before, but earlier today I was scrolling through the ‘Recent’ tab of my Billdip search, yknow, just checking out what’s new in one of my favorite ships, and I kept coming across anti-ship posts and people complaining about incest and pedophilia and all that shit.
*Inhales* Now there are just a FEW things I’d like to add to the ‘arguments’ these posts and bloggers were making:

  1. “It’s supporting pedophilia/incest!”
Actually no, it isn’t. Unless the author of the said ‘fan-work’ themselves DIRECTLY STATED that pedophilia or incest was fun/good, it is highly unlikely that they support it. Depicting something in a creative medium does not mean in any way that you condone it; for example, just because I joke about killing myself after a bad fanfic or maiming one of the characters in said badfic DOES NOT mean that I would do it in real life, or encourage others to do it in real life. I’ve said this line in my previous post, but I’ll say it again: LIKING FICTIONAL CHARACTERS IN A FICTIONAL RELATIONSHIP HAS ABOUT AS MUCH IMPACT ON SOMEONE’S PERSONAL/POLITICAL/RELIGIOUS VIEWS AS SOMEONE ELSE COMPLAINING ABOUT IT DOES ON THE REAL WORLD.

  2. “It doesn’t matter if it’s fiction, it can still be used to groom kids into thinking that pedophilia/incest is okay or erotic.”
Believe it or not, I agree with this one. BUT, it still doesn’t change the fact that it’s not OUR JOB to teach naive children what is right or wrong in the world. IT’S A PARENT OR GUARDIAN’S. If a child is young or impressionable enough to think that just because there are pictures and other such media depicting pedophilia/incest it means it’s okay, then they SHOULDN’T BE ON THE INTERNET. Or their parent/guardian should monitor their child’s activity more closely. Moreover, if a child IS naive enough to think such things, then it’s not fucking Fandoms and Tumblr and Fanfiction I’m worried about, I’d be more worried about them stumbling across an ACTUAL PEDOPHILIA OR INCEST FETISH SITE! What then, people? You gonna make accounts on those forums and bitch about morality there? Good luck.

  3. “Well, I dislike it and think it’s disgusting, and I have a right to post my opinion about it on someone else’s blog.”
Yeah, yes, absolutely, you DO have a right to an opinion! Do you have a right to whine on someone’s blog other than yours, though? NO. Do you really think that you posting a comment in the tags about how disgusting someone or something is will really change anything? It won’t. Now it’s one thing if someone said ‘I don’t support this, I personally think it’s awful, but you’re your own person and are allowed to like whatever you want.’ But even then, I STILL don’t understand why you’d say that on someone’s post. You don’t know this person, that person doesn’t know you, you clearly just implied that you want nothing to do with them or their interests, why the hell can’t you just blacklist their blog and be on your merry way? Know why ladies and gents? Because people are insecure and they need to wave their ‘opinions’ everywhere and at everything until they get recognized. If it’s not constructive criticism and is just someone who’s ‘politely’ stating that they dislike a piece of media and nothing else, they’re not worth your time.

  4. “But it’s encouraging real life pedophilia/incest.”
*sighs* Yknow, it sucks that I’m the one who has to come out and shatter the Tumblr illusion by saying this, but halting media depictions of something dark or taboo won’t stop horrible things from happening. People, real-life pedophiles are laughing and real-life survivors are scoffing at you for thinking that censoring or filtering TUMBLR media will change ANYTHING. That’s like saying if we cease mass production and marketing of weapons, then worldwide WAR will stop! It’s stupid to think like that. Sadly it doesn’t fucking matter what people do or don’t ship, or write, or draw about, there will always be bad people in the world, and I can assure you that attempting to police stupid fandoms will not change that fact. You want to help fix the world? Go DONATE or VOLUNTEER instead of spending your time whining about what someone is doing with their blog.

  5. “If you ship <Ship Name>, then ur disgusting.”
That’s close enough to a direct quote I saw from a post, and honestly, I can’t find much merit from someone who can’t even spell ‘YOU’RE’ correctly. And neither should any other sensible person.

And that’s pretty much all I wanted to say. Sorry for the long post, but Black Cat is known for her rants lol. Don’t let anyone tell you what you can and can’t do with your time, and don’t tell anyone that they’re a bad person because they ship this or that.

Like seriously people, it’s just stupid pairings n’ shit.

Dear Voltron fandom..

As many of you know, we have now been released the ages of all the characters. Many would believe this would clean up some discourse.
But as usual for this fanbase, it has just created more and more.

We now know that;
Shiro is 25
Keith is 18
Lance is 17
Hunk is 17
And pidge is 15

Honestly, I had assumed this would be their ages anyway as pidge is mature enough to be 15 and the others all make sense too.
Incase nobody had realised, Shiro is a junior officer, meaning he would have been between 18-26 anyways so it makes total sense.

Now, to the matter at hand.
People are getting very mad about the ages, but my question is; why?

Incase you have forgotten, these are fictional characters.
Until confirmed by the show, there are no canon ships besides the ones already present in the show.

I have always said, unless the ship is harmful in any way, why shouldn’t people ship it?

But now, because of the appearance of age people are bashing people for shipping any of the shaladin ships. But I do not understand why.

If you haven’t noticed, there have been much worse age gaps than 10 years like there is between shiro and pidge.

For example; take the most popular ship of attack on Titan- Eren x Levi.
Eren is around 16
Levi is around 35

YET here, people couldn’t care less about the age differences, shipping it anyway because why shouldn’t they be allowed to?

The characters aren’t real and do not effect your life or the lives of people around you, so why are you taking time out of your day to hate on someone else’s ship?
Even the mention of the ship name can be enough to set people off, even if the main part of the ship isn’t romantic and just friendship.

This is why this fandom is slowly going downhill, and I just want you all to realise why this is so pointless

Dreamworks is a big company, they know what they are doing and have planned the characters and their development out from day one; so it’s never their fault; it’s ours as a fandom.

Why don’t we all agree, that everyone’s views are valid amend we should just be positive. If not, the worst case scenario is that voltron as a series is cancelled.

*edit. I know that I could use better examples of other ships in other fandoms where this has happened, but it is 12:58am and I just wanted to get my main point across which is that it honestly shouldn’t matter what people ship.

error-maddie-gem  asked:

Hay cross how do you feel about me and nightmare sans shipped together because he's mine!

Now that we’re talking about ships…

Here comes another little tought.

You’re free to ship any characters you want… I won’t impose you which things I do like and which ones I don’t…
I think the shipping world is wonderful, because you’re creating something after all… (even if it’s nsfw lmao) and you are having fun! You like to do your story and that’s great!

But…

Sometimes there’s something that can ruin a friendship between artists in real life because of this you know?

Like, some people only cares about their fictional characters and fame instead the people who supported them and had a nice time with those creations and ideas…

Always happen something that can hurts an artist just because someone didn’t like what this artist did, that person shows his dissapointment with hate, jealous, with fear of their fanchilds/ fan ships could disappear… in the worst case, they take the artits’s personal mistakes as an excuse in order to get everyone’s approval about their thoughts and “what must be right”.

I said before that I was afraid about some people could misunderstand the canon characters because of the “popular” ships, but this doesn’t mean I don’t hate those ships… actually this make me feel sad…not for the misunderstandings!

It makes me feel so sad when some people wants to hurt others because of a different point of view… and make that person could be hated for a entire fandom…forcing  them to quit all the work this person did, and being judged about their acts for another events… just because one person hated them for a ship they doesn’t like it and helped to increase hatred and revenge.

Is that…fair?

I’m gonna get real about problematic ships for a minute.

You know the ones that I am talking about. The ones where people ship the heroine/hero with the villain and people cry abuse.

I don’t want to get specific and start talking about certain ships that exist and the discourse around them… because we all know what ships they are and we’ve heard the fighting points over and over again.

But what I haven’t heard any one bring up… is that the psychology behind these ships is not what antis think it is.

One of the biggest arguments against problematic ships is that people (particularly women) who ship them are self inserting themselves as the heroine/hero and idealizing a relationship with a man/woman who is subjectively cruel, and that this kind of idealization can lead to actual abusive relationships. And, honestly, they aren’t wrong. That can happen and people need to be careful.

But what I think antis fail to understand is that, yes, self insertion often happens with these kind of ships. But not in the way they think.

I think a large number of people who ship “problematic ships” aren’t inserting themselves as the hero/heroine. They are inserting themselves as the villain. Not because they are cruel and abusive in real life - but because some subconscious, or even conscious, part of themselves believes they are unworthy of love.

Insecurities, abandonment issues, trouble with intimacy, disastrous previous relationships, the inability to find requited love, all of these can convalesce into a feeling that there is something inherently wrong with you that makes you undeserving or incapable of finding real love.

So when they see a villain who is objectively unworthy of forgiveness, objectively unworthy of tenderness and compassion, ultimately changing and actually receiving it… it ultimately makes them feel like maybe love might be possible for them too.

I guess it’s another form of shipping to cope… but one that I have never really seen discussed.

Reblog this if you’re a Bughead shipper or you love Sprousehart as a couple, but would never post nasty or invasive comments to any of the cast, and you keep your shipping in tags on Tumblr.

I’m honestly so sick of seeing the hate towards us now. Just because I ship Bughead (a healthy teenage relationship on a TV show) I’ve been labelled as homophobic and racist?? Just because I really like that the actors who play those characters are together in real life, I’ve been labelled as delusional, a bully, unable to differentiate between characters and actors, and apparently also pathetic enough to send hate to other cast members! This is so unfair!

I wouldn’t dream of EVER commenting hate on anyone’s social media. I also wouldn’t harass Cole or Lili about their relationship. I strictly keep to the tags on here, and I know most other fans on here do the same.

Some users are making out like we’re doing something wrong. I’ll say it again… IT’S NOT OUR FAULT THAT OUR SHIP IS THE MOST POPULAR! It’s also not our fault that the actors are dating in real life. You can ship any characters on the show that you like. Just stick to the correct tags and none of us will even see it to give you ‘hate’. As for Sprousehart, that is a real relationship between real people and no matter what you say, you can’t change that. You need to accept it. Stay out of the Sprousehart tag and ignore it if you don’t like it. If you hate the way the show’s going, don’t watch it.

I can’t stand being labelled as something that I’m not, just because other people don’t like what I support due to it’s popularity. Stop spending your time hating something, and focus on what you love instead.

RANT.

I like to look at all BTS ship videos on YT.. I just love seeing cute moments between all the members :). I know the likelihood of any of the ships being real in a romantic way is slim to none because shipping is for fun after all (something I enjoy doing). And I get that everyone sees what they want to see, which is fine. I admit that there are moments in each ship that sometimes make me wonder. However I CANNOT for the life of me see what V/kook shippers are looking at when they say that V/kook are the realest romantic ship…. I just don’t look at a V/kook moment and think “wow there is definitely something going on there”. I always see them and think “aww that’s such a cute moment, I love how close they are (I wish I had friends like that)”. I love all  BTS ships and how close everyone is. But even if I see a questionable moment or two, I mainly see everyone as a close family who love each other and it’s adorable. I just happen to think that there could be something much more romantic going on between Jikook. My opinion (with valid situations to back it up). But if you really ship V/kook like that then that’s great, to each their own. That being said, today I stumbled across a V/Kook vs Jikook video and OMG…

THE COMMENTS SECTION IS AN ABSOLUTE MESS. 🙈 and it’s only been up for 2 days. After going through the MANY V/kook comments I just have to get this off my chest..

The logic is just NOT THERE lol. I get defending your ship with what you think is really happening, but make sure you back up what your saying. Show the evidence you claim to have without dragging Jikook down. It just bothers me when shippers feel the need to discredit other ships, as a way of proving theirs is real. I understand there are terrible Jikook shippers out there that are just as bad as some V/Kook shippers, and I know that it’s not just them cause I’ve seen Yoon/min and other shippers get pretty bad. But I’m just finding more and more negative comments about Jikook because “V/kook is more real and jikook shippers are blind”. I had to say something lol. These are just some of the comments that had me shaking my head..

-V/Kook always share clothes and JK doesn’t like to share clothes, yet he shares them with V. I don’t see him doing that with JM”

The replies to this comments went off, and there were SO many V/kook shippers saying they never saw them share clothes. HOW. WHAT ARE THEY LIVING UNDER. I’m just going to leave this here.. because I just… can’t. lol.

Not saying JK doesn’t share with TH, but Maknae line definitely at least share with each other.

-  “Omg GUYS IF JIKOOK WERE REAL, Jimin and JK would spend more time together. But we know TH and JK are always playing games and etc together.. They even went on a trip together..”

OKAY… I know I’m not the only one face palming here lol. First off, the only way you would know if Jikook spent more time together is if they show it or say it. & If I was in a REAL relationship that I was trying to keep private, I would not spend more time together in front of the world to see. I mean, COMMON SENSE people. Also from my experience, spending time together playing video games and bonding is something friends do with eachother. How can people forget that underneath all of these ships BTS are real life friends and brothers that do spend time together on their off time. They live together. Even if any of the ships were real they aren’t going to avoid the other members and not hang out with them because of that. Secondly, You know that V/kook spends time together and plays games because that is what they chose to share with you. You know they hang out because people have spotted them hanging out together. That’s great. But Jikook have also been spotted hanging out before, as well as stated moments of them spending time together off camera (e.i JK practically being Ji/hope’s honorary roommate, and them *cough* staying up till 4am to do laundry together *cough*). They are also GLUED to the hip at airports and in the background of many of their videos, assuming you mean off camera -.-. So just because your ship spends time together doesn’t mean that others don’t. (& also by that logic V/min would be the realest ship since even the members say they are the closest, have taken trips together and spend A LOT of time together).

I can not imagine a romantic relationship between brothers, but between two friends…” “JM TREATS JK LIKE HIS YOUNGER BROTHER HE SAID IT HIMSELF”.

Another face palm. Like really. Again with the logic going out the window lol. They all call each other brothers because they are close like a family. I am pretty damn sure JK has called TH a brother at some point and vice versa, but go ahead and use that example of him calling him a friend instead. To me, that just means that JK considers himself closest to JM if he considers him a brother, because that is stronger than calling someone a friend. AND If any of the members were actively trying to hide their relationships or keep things private why in their right minds would they openly say anything to make people suspect something. Really. (& again by that logic V/min would be the realest ship here since they have openly called each other Soulmates and more.. Just sayin)

Plus in my opinion, there is nothing brotherly about this stare ..  Actions speak louder than words my friend.

Obviously if you are only paying attention to your ship, you’re not going to see the moments we see. Even then, we don’t know exactly what happens behind closed doors and off camera. We can only go by part of what we see and some of what the members say (Because fan service is still a thing). And even though the boys share a lot of their idol lives with us, we don’t really know what their personal life is like, only what they feel like sharing. At the end of the day shipping is just for fun because we don’t really know what is going on. We should all be supporting BTS as a whole, because without Bangtan the ships wouldn’t exist. So fighting between ships and constantly dragging other ships and members down because of your ships shouldn’t even be a thing. You can easily like your ship and respect the others. If you don’t think you see something romantic between Jikook that’s fine, because I don’t see anything romantic in v/kook. It’s all a matter of opinion. But don’t tell me that I am delusional for seeing something in my ship or use the “their brothers, it would be weird. it’s one sided” excuse to drag my ship down. We should all just enjoy our respective ships peacefully :). And with that I’m going to end this long rant with a comment I saw that really just fits with this post lmao. Because Ship wars are tiring & after re-reading this I realized that there is a Vmin situation for everything haha.

- “It would be funny if in the end of all these fights between Jikook and V/kook the real one was actually Vmin…”

One episode after another, we had signs that she were on her way. We had signs that she was going to find her doctor again. We got hope.

And she appeared. For the last time. And then she left again with a simili doctor.

And we never got to hear about her after that. Like she never happened. We never got to hear about Martha and Donna and Mickey and Jack after that… (except for the anniversary of course… in which Rose wasn’t even Rose… I still cried when I saw her)

We were quite a lot to stop after that. Stop watching the show I mean. Because Eleven was a stranger. He wasn’t like Nine, he wasn’t like Ten, he was his own doctor with his own companions. Doesn’t really matter (for the show) because new fans came.

I watched Eleven. Mostly because I loved this show once so I couldn’t stop like that. I couldn’t watch Twelve. The only companion I really loved from Eleven’s era was Rory (and it was kinda hard because he kept dying). I couldn’t watch more about people I didn’t care about.

So I guess each fan has his own doctor, his own companions… but please, stop complaining about “Rose shippers”, “Rose fans”, “Tennant fans” etc… If you didn’t watch the show during this period, you don’t get to complain about us. Because you just don’t understand us. You don’t understand what was doctor who for us. The same way we stopped understanding it (for the ones who stopped of course) so we don’t get to complain about what it is now.

Reylo and why it’s a problem beyond any shipper war….

I’ve been part of many shipper wars over the years. Absolutely crazy and disgusting ones that left me wondering why I had ever joined the fandom in the first place. I have seen people call each other retarded and freaks over a ship and bully people, stalk their social media accounts… I have seen people insult actors and writers on social media over shipping - even sending them death threats (!!!!), I have seen people insult the significant others of actors because their ship wasn’t happening in real life as well… You name it, I’ve probably seen it. Some of these things also take place in the Star Wars fandom and I find them just as appalling and disgusting as I do in any other fandom. However I have become used to this insanity to a certain point and so there is a level of shipping-craziness I can ignore. Is this good? Probably not, but that’s simply what happens when you are confronted with bullshit for years and years, you become immune to it to a degree.

What I have seen in the Star Wars fandom recently though has crossed my line…and sometimes it has not just crossed it, it jumped past the line and blew itself into the freaking stratosphere of unacceptable behaviour.

Look, Reylo started out as somewhat of a crack ship, something that exists in almost any fandom. The villain + the hero… people writing fanfics about it, enjoying the idea. No problem so far because what you imagine in fics and have as a head canon can be problematic and unrealistic. As long as you are aware of it and don’t take it too seriously, everything’s cool.

The thing started to blow out of proportion when people suddenly became convinced that it will be canon. And that it’s the only acceptable, interesting canon, and that the entire Star Wars crew is playing some giant goose chase game with the fandom and only the Reylos get it. Shipping Reylo became some sort of detective game that only the truly smart people can figure out. Hidden clues, fairytale motives… Half of it seemed like we had suddenly entered a real life conspiracy theory scenario.

All of this is weird and insulting the intelligence of non-shippers but it can still be overlooked with an eyeroll. The real problems began when people started to justify why Reylo is better than any other ship and entirely unproblematic. They did not stop at plot points and hidden clues…no! In the course of defending their ship as a realistic option for the future of Star Wars, huge issues arose that made Reylo even MORE problematic instead of making it more acceptable.

Issue 1: The treatment of Finn

Some of the biggest treats of any ship are obviously other ships that involve one of the characters. In case of Reylo the biggest treat is Finnrey, ie. the ship between Rey and the character she spent the majority of time with during TFA. This ship somehow had to be discredited. Looking at the dynamic between Finn and Rey in the movie, making this ship not just unrealistic but downright horrible should be quite a challenge. Yet it was shockingly easy for the Reylo fandom. Not by using any valid plot points, but by stepping over lines that should never be crossed, not only in fandoms but in society in general: racism, homophobia and toxic masculinity!

Finn is, for many reasons, an absolutely groundbreaking and incredibly important character in the Star Wars franchise. Played by John Boyega, a man of colour, he is one of the few POC lead characters in any major franchises, cinema and TV alike. But not only that, the character himself is representing an incredibly important arc: A person brainwashed by an ideology for most of his life questioning this ideology and breaking free from it, breaking out of a facist organisation, refusing to follow their blind ideals and joining the fight against them. Finn becomes a hero in TFA for many reasons. He saves Rey, the other lead of the movie, several times and it is obvious she adores him. So the version of Finn we are presented with in TFA is that of a hero who becomes best friends with the heroine.

Somehow many members of the Reylo fandom considered it necessary to reinterpret this version of Finn to the point he became unrecognizable to justify why he is wrong for Rey. The fact that he broke out from the First Order suddenly became an act of cowardness because he was not strong enough to kill for them. His fear when he ran away from the facist organisation that turned him into nothing more but a number was interpreted as weakness. Him pretending to be a member of the Resistance was not seen as the act of someone ashamed of where he came from or someone who thought no one would trust him if they knew the truth – it was seen as a character flaw. His lie to personally get to save Rey from the First Order was interpreted as a sign of him being a pathologic liar instead of someone who would do everything for his friend. Even his motives were questioned…wondering if he REALLY left the First Order or might just be a double agent, trying to infiltrate the Resistance, even though there is absolutely no evidence for it in TFA! The fact that a man of colour is villainized, ridiculed, made out as weak and essentially a loser, who did everything just because of fear and because he is a liar, when all of his character’s storyline does originally make him look like a hero, is wrong on so many levels that I don’t even know where to start - and all of this seemingly to justify why he is not a suitable love interest for Rey! The fact that people did this with ease can’t help but make you wonder if they could do so because of their internalized racism. In this scenario a black man is made unworthy of a white heroine, even though his character was meant to be a hero just like she is. Turning a black man into a pathetic loser, even though his storyline contradicts it completely, falls right into racist behaviour patterns… especially if you do so to justify why a white character, who was constructed as a villain, is a better choice for the heroine than the black character who was constructed as a hero.

This is however just one kind of mistreatment Finn receives. Other scenarios involve Finn being gay to get him out of the way as a love interest for Rey. This way of thinking does not interpret Finn as gay for the sake of equality and representation but mainly to make him unsuitable as a love interest for the heroine. To use the sexuality of a character only to make room for a ship is obviously a totally wrong way of approaching homosexuality in fiction. Connected to this is people’s reception of some of Finn’s characteristics: for whatever reason many see Finn as unmanly, because he shows fear and seeks for support in dangerous, scary moments. This apparent unmanliness of his made some come to the conclusion that he is gay. So a man who does not fit into stereotypical ideas of how a man should be like… of course has to be gay, implying that a gay man is unmanly due to his sexuality? URGHS! If this is not the conclusion drawn by people, another popular one is that the “unmanly” Finn is not strong enough for Rey. Yet many of the people who express these ideas have no problem with Finn potentially being with a WOC who will be introduced in the Last Jedi. So he is too weak for Rey but not for an Asian woman they know nothing about? Does this scream racism? It obviously does…

Another tactic is….ignoring Finn. Removing him from all discourse, from all fan art and fan fics, erase him in pictures and switch him for Kylo Ren. Not only does this make no sense looking at the actual movie, but it removes the movie’s black lead from his rightful position. You can’t tell me it doesn’t leave a sour taste in people’s mouths if TFA’s black hero is switched for the white villain? In the end it’s the erasure of a black person, no matter how you look at it. And that is just WRONG.

Let’s summarize: If your tactics to convince people of your ship involve sidelining and demonizing a POC character or discrediting a man because he doesn’t fit into stereotypical masculine characteristics… you got a problem.

Issue 2: The racist attacks towards other fans and John Boyega

People love to pretend this is a tiny issue and does not reflect the fandom but… Something like this can never be a tiny issue! I am not saying that no vile, wrong actions took place outside of the Reylo fandom (check out the very beginning of this post…I acknowledge the usual shipper war insanity, which did take place from all sides, not denying this for a second) – however there is a difference between people insulting each other for a ship, and people sending anonymous messages full of racist slurs to people of colour in this fandom because they are against Reylo or adore Finn. That is, to put it mildly, an absolute catastrophe and the fact alone that this sort of behaviour was inspired by a ship is shocking. If you then remember that one character of this ship is in fact a facist… It has “abort mission” written all over itself. Yet people did not even manage to keep their trash inside of the fandom… it made its way into the comments section of the actors’ social media accounts. One much cited incident took place on Daisy Ridley’s instagram page, where people threw around racist insults towards John Boyega. If anyone has followed her, they will know she took down her instagram. I can only assume that this incident did not do anything positive for her view of social media. Since apparently this is still not enough, some racists feel the need to spread lies about John Boyega, turning him into a sexual predator even… I don’t think I have to explain that this is absolutely, utterly unacceptable!! From slight, internalized racism to open, inexcusable racism - we have now seen it all. This has to stop! And it will not stop by the Reylo fandom insisting it’s not all of them. Of course it isn’t. But that doesn’t make it any less of a giant problem! I could as well now draw the conclusion that Reylo fans are okay with shipping Rey with a facist because they are okay with facism…. and racism. It would be unfair to many of them, sure… but let’s be serious…can anybody be blamed if they come to this conclusion at this point? And is it such a crazy idea to assume that this ships draws in racists and facists??

Issue 3: The reinterpretation of Kylo Ren as a misunderstood anti-hero

One preferred way to make the villain Kylo Ren worthy of Rey is to try and explain why he is the way he is. This goes beyond a serious psychological analysis of why he turned into a facist murderer. It is used to turn him into a guy who is not responsible for his actions and actually kinda nice. “Poor Ben Solo was targeted by Snoke in the womb, in the WOOOOMB!! He couldn’t do anything about it. His childhood was traumatizing (why exactly we do not know), he had nobody and so of course he fell into Snoke’s hands, the poor boy! He is so lonely and misunderstood!” I can’t even count how often I have read these kinds of things. Yet in TFA itself we have examples of people who were brought up by the First Order (Finn) and abandoned by their parents on desert planets (Rey), but neither of them follows Kylo Ren’s path at this point. Neither of them is drowning in self pity and going around killing and torturing people. So resistance is possible, even IF you are related to facists and even IF some dark force is targeting you. Portraying Kylo Ren as the victim of this storyline is doing injustice to all the people who suffered from his actions. He is not a brainless puppet. He made a decision. Maybe he will realise himself that it was the wrong one… but never in Star Wars has it seemed like those who join the Dark Side did so because they were brainwashed and had no other choice. Mostly they did it for selfish reasons and from everything we can see at this point, so did Kylo Ren. Does his background story make it understandable why he became evil? It seems so. It is meant to. But it is not meant to excuse his behaviour or make him a victim. Anakin, even before he became Darth Vader, always had the potential to be evil because of his character traits. It is the same for Kylo Ren and also Luke. Luke chose to become a Jedi and Kylo Ren chose the Dark Side. So no, he is not innocent, he isn’t a victim, he isn’t an anti-hero… He is a murderer, plain and simple. So turning him into some emo Disney-Prince is nothing but disturbing. It alters the story and changes what he truly is. Many do this to make him worthy of Rey and so that they can keep the illusion alive that he can be completely redeemed and fall into her arms. This is however not logical and should not happen under any circumstances if the Star Wars writers take their own writing and the legacy of the saga seriously. A facist and murderer is no misunderstood puppy. He is evil. If people romanticise him, they have issues. But then there’s also a serial killer fandom, right? And tbh I see clear similarities between that and some of the Kylo Ren fandom…

Btw: Diagnosing Kyle Ren with all sorts of mental illnesses does not make him a better person either. Nowhere among the symptoms of depression, PTSD etc. will you find “turns person into a facist killer”. The idea alone that blaming his acts on what could be a mental illness is insulting every single person who struggles with mental illnesses! It makes it seem like they are all potential murderers! This is HORRIBLE!

Issue 4: The acceptance and downright glorification of a facist regime

If only all members of the Reylo fandom tried to make it a possibility by redeeming Kylo Ren. This is of course also problematic to the moon and back, yet it is still preferable to the other option, which is to say that he has the right to do what he does. I have seen people say that the Republic is evil and someone had to do something against it, so what if they take drastic measures? (like killing everyone??) I have seen fanfics were people wrote about Nazi experiments like it’s some kind of kink. I have seen people call Kylo Ren and Hux “extra”, as if they were some fun drama queens and not members of a facist regime. I have seen people who hope Rey becomes evil, so that she and Kylo Ren become some evil super couple. What is this meant to say about the people who do and say these things? Some of them seem to see all of this as some joke, pointing out again and again that it is not real. Sure, supporting this in real life is a huge step further than squeeing over murderers in fiction… however if you see your views as unproblematic and hope they will find support in canon… God, I don’t even want to think about this… it’s just NUTS.

Issue 5: The interpretation of abusive behaviour as sexy and romantic

To make the scenes Kylo Ren and Rey share in TFA romantic, they require a certain interpretation. Take the torture scene. People say things like “He was sitting by her side, waiting until she wakes up herself because he didn’t want to wake her” So we have a villain that ties up a heroine to get information out of her. He sits down and watches his prisoner for a certain time, waiting until the prisoner wakes up. The idea that he admires her looks in this scene is something I have often seen as an argument why this scene is romantic. However people seem to ignore that this is not, let’s say, a friend who is staying in the same place with someone and watches them sleep. This is a villain who knocked out a woman, tied her up and now waits for her to wake up to get information out of her. Is this really a romantic situation or a creepy one? Another argument as to why this scene is romantic is that he apparently holds her captive in his private rooms. I have no idea if there is any evidence for this, but is it really romantic that a villain keeps a woman imprisoned in his private rooms to read her mind? Or is it an abusive action by a kidnapper who clearly has disturbing ideas? I mean imagine you get knocked out and kidnapped by someone and then wake up in a dark room, with the person who kidnapped you watching you in silence? Would you find this creepy or cute?

Even if we take a look at the kidnapping scene itself people can’t seem to get over the fact that Kylo Ren carries an unconscious Rey. Could this be a romantic moment in another context? It surely could be. IF he had not been the one to knock her out in the first place, and IF he was not carrying her into his spaceship to get information out of her (by torturing her with his powers)! We are not watching a man carrying his unconscious love to safety. We are watching a villain carry the unconscious heroine into the enemy’s headquarters. This is a scary situation, NOT a romantic one!

Obviously we have to end this with their final fight. Arguments I’ve heard mainly talk about how he did not kill her because he has a soft spot for her. Not only does this ignore the fact that he was quite severely injured during this scene but also the obvious reason why he is so interested in her. He wants her power. He wants to train her, wants her to join HIS side of the force because she is crazily powerful. Is her unique power enough of a reason not to kill her at this point? Of course it is! People who are strong with the force are rare and special. You do not just chop their heads off if they don’t directly do what you want. So no, this is again not a romantic scene. It is a scene between the villain of the movie and the heroine where he is trying to bring her to his side. Something else I keep hearing is that they apparently exchanged romantic looks when she escapes and he lies in the snow. He was just defeated by a scavenger from a desert planet! He, the mighty Kylo Ren! He knows that there probably won’t be a way around her on his way to power! And she knows that the head of the First Order wants to get his hand on her because of her power, because of something she never wanted to be part of. This is a “Holy Shit, this is our future” – moment. This is the start of an epic fight. Not two lovers staring longingly at each other!

To summarize: All scenes between Rey and Kylo Ren get reinterpreted as romantic, even if they are creepy, abusive and potentially lethal. Dare I claim that they would not be seen as such if they would not take place between a young woman and a young man? The fact though that these two people could theoretically put together their sexual organs should not make these scenes romantic or nice or hot. That people interpret them this way is more than problematic and makes it look like they find abuse, kidnapping and trashing each other with light sabers cute, when it would honest to God not be in any other context.

Issue 6: The sidelining of Rey in favour of Kylo Ren’s character development

Sadly most arguments for Reylo seem to centre around Kylo Ren and the redemption this relationship could bring to him. No words about why it is a great idea for Rey or why it should further her character development to fall for the villain. Kylo Ren often suddenly takes the position of the hero, it becomes his storyline and she, the actual heroine, becomes an asset that is being used to make him a better person. She is supposed to save the lonely, misunderstood man from his misery. Why she should do this mostly seems obscure. Most of these scenarios are combined with Issue 3. Kylo Ren’s crimes are downplayed, so that Rey can fall in love with him and “save” him. So again… canon Kylo Ren’s actions have to be reinterpreted and canon Rey’s storyline shoved aside in favour of his.

These six issues are my main reasons to stay away from the Reylo fandom. I have mostly experienced it as a toxic space for reasons that go beyond the usual shipper war problems. Even though I have read some of the theories and tried to stay open-minded… it was simply not possible looking at all the problematic and sometimes downright disgusting things that were happening all around. I only hope for the sake of Star Wars that Reylo stays nothing but a fanon ship and that this will somewhat calm down the situation. Canon Reylo could give power to people who clearly should not have any.

This all thing with acowar is making me so sad and angry. What’s happening with this fandom honestly? We’re all at each other throats, saying rude things about each other.

Why do people care if someone still ship Moriel? I’ll ship Nessian till the end of my fucking life, I don’t care if it’s canon. Why do people care if someone ship Elriel? I’ve seen soooo many ugly posts about calling elriel shippers such a rude names. This is a fucking book guys, you have no right to say that someone is not normal or that everyone ships Elriel because of this or because of that. Feelings of a real person is more important than your ship sinking.

People calling others out for liking Jurian, Keir or Eris. Who are you to decide who is to like? I can like whoever I want to. We all know they’re not heroes. And I’m intrigued by them and a lot of people are.

I know this is my fault and that I’m to blame because tumblr ruined my reading experience. Honestly I wasn’t even anticipating it so much because all of the drama before. I’m really thinking about deleting this shit

anonymous asked:

I love the idea of autistic Keith, and even if I never really hc it in the past, I can see where it came from. My cousin has downs, and my mom worked in developmental therapy for mentally disabled children. Even my best friend's little brother had autism. So I can sort of recognize it. However, the only issue I have with Keith being autistic is how the fandom will treat him. Even before this hc, people wrote him terribly wrong, and would treat him like trash for the sake of their ships 1/2

2/2 and now with so many people supporting the autistic Keith hc??? Can you imagine how horrid he’ll be written/drawn in fanon?? People who’ve never seen autism, or people who aren’t diagnosed with any type of disability just don’t understand how to respect people with mental illnesses in real life, and in their works

honestly I don’t care

if ppl never write marginalized characters for fear of how they’ll be treated in canon then characters will stay the same and continue to get even more boring because there’s never any variety and the people who are never represented will be further silenced. it might be hard at first as people try to figure out how to portray them in fan content but it’s all part of learning and you have to suck at something before you’re good at something right? plus there’s lots of autistic ppl out there who will be more than happy to contribute their own fan content and educate ppl who want to learn

Please shut up with the hate

Guys! Please! I am so tired of seeing unjustified hate here in Tumblr!

So very, very, VERY, very tired. I can’t even search fandom/character/ship tags anymore, so can y’all please just shut up with the “this is disgusting” and “please kill yourself” when the things have nothing wrong with them??

- Liking an evil/villain/anti-hero character doesn’t make their fans bad people in real life, it just means they might find said characters interesting and important to their respective fandoms, and writing redemption stories or made-up backgrounds/explanations for why they are evil doesn’t mean their fans justify or ignore what said characters did wrong

- Bringing a character dead in canon “back to life” in fanon doesn’t make the fans crazy or mentally ill (I feel like this one is so dumb that I shouldn’t put it here, but trust me when I say that I’ve seen hate messages sent to people merely because they make AUs where character live or they just refuse to believe they died in canon and make theories on how they are alive)

- Shipping enemies/previous enemies doesn’t mean people approve of abusive relationships (unless the stories/fan art they make is strictly abusive, which in some cases can serve to bring awareness to said issues or have shock value, as long as it’s not romanticizing abuse it’s ok) no matter how much the characters hate eachother in canon, sometimes people like to make their own AUS where characters were not enemies to begin with or maybe they grow to like eachother and forgive eachother in a healthy way

- Shipping characters with an age difference is not automatically pedophilia, no matter what age they have in canon or if one met the other whilst they were adults and the others children (even if that freaks you out, as long as they are all portrayed as adults, be the age difference 1 year or 90 years, it’s still legal)

- Shipping a character who did something really bad to another character, no mater how much you hate the ship, is ok to draw/write if it does not encourage violence or abuse (much similar to what I said above with the enemies one)

- Liking something that you don’t understand the appeal to or that is just not that popular (as long as it’s ok and not illegal) doesn’t mean fans are trying to convert you or shipping/liking things on purpose to get you, it means they want to be left alone in their own likings and that you should respect them and go do what you want instead of hating on them

Here’s what you should do if you still hate these things but they are completely legal and ok:

If it’s on one or few SPECIFIC artworks or artists and not the whole ship/fandom, you should:

- Use an anti tag so that it doesn’t flood the tags of people looking for artworks and stuff, or just adress the artists themselves

- If they haven’t shown signs of being rude or approving of actual illegal actions (rape, abuse, violence, murder, etc etc) don’t be disrespectful (for example if they draw something very violent that triggers you but they express that they find it wrong and that it’s meant to bring awareness to that issue, ask them/criticize them politely and don’t jump in attacking them straight away)

- Use clear arguments and organize them so that it’s easy to understand your points and so that people don’t confuse criticism with hate

- Judge the art, not the artist. Only judge the artist when the artist made their points of view and true beliefs extremely clear

If you want to rant on the whole ship/fandom:

- Use the ship/fandom tag but keep your opinion/rant polite and respectful to the people who also use the tag

- Don’t mistake one person’s headcanons or art for the whole fandom and every single fan, because of course there are bad apples in every tree, but that doesn’t make every single one bad

- Don’t accuse all fans of being rapists, pedophiles, abusive, etc without any motive, with your only “proof” being what they ship or what fandoms they are in or what characters they like

And now can y’all please shut the hell up and go easy on the “kill yourself”’s?

I’m gonna tag some ships here that I like or where I’ve seen this sort of hate lately, be free to tag more to stop this non-sense hate

Septiplier

Okay first of all, this is not a whole paragraph about me fangirling over Septiplier. This is me ranting about how the community treats this ship.

At this point, its’s not really a ship. It’s just made things awkward between Jack and Mark. Now I’m almost 100% sure they’re still friends, things are just awkward between them now.

Now I’m no hypocrite. I’m gonna be honest here, I am a hardcore Septiplier shipper. BUT I don’t go out of my way to shove it in their faces. I kind of just do it privately or with other friends who also ship them. And I must admit, I do enjoy a bit of fanfiction or fanart. But I don’t think that’s what really bothering them.

What’s bothering them (At least from my theory) is the fact that people are attacking them and their girlfriends. People have the freedom to write and draw whatever they want, as long as it doesn’t harm anyone, especially the person/people it’s directed towards.

Now onto why it’s awkward between them. First of all, people have been attacking them saying that they should be together and that Jack shouldn’t be with Signe, and Mark shouldn’t be with Amy. And people like to shove smutty fanart down their throats. Now it’s fine to draw it, just don’t tag them on social media. So when they see each other in real life, it’s kind of natural for your brain to go to the negative/bothersome/awkward situations.

Do you remember the days when Jack and Mark could take a photo together and post it to social media and people shipped the ship in a playful way? I do. Let’s take last year for example. Last year at Pax Events, Vidcon, etc., they posted multiple photos of them together. But at Pax this year, no photos. In fact, we haven’t seen a genuine, not-edited photo of them together in a while. But that just may be a coincidence.

Can we just be like the chorus of Stressed Out and turn back time to the good ol’ days?

Anyways, thanks for reading this. Tag Jack and Mark? Do you guys agree with me?

And this all just may be a big misunderstanding. I’m sorry if it is.

Love these guys, let’s keep this friendship alive. Let’s repay them for all the stuff they do for us.
