i can put it on my desk as i do homework

the no bullshit guide to getting your shit together: for the lazy student

Let’s be honest: time management and organization? They’re really hard. Sure, at first you might feel like you’ve gotten the hang of them, that you’re in control of your life. But how often have you fallen off the wagon? Procrastinated on one thing and the next moment, you’re behind in all your classes? I know that sometimes laziness feels like a part of who you are, but honestly, fuck that. Do you really want to give up your success for the disinterest of a moment?

If your answer is no (it better be no, or you really need to get your priorities straight), let’s get to it.

STEP ONE: BE HONEST WITH YOURSELF

“This class doesn’t even matter.” “I don’t care about my grades.” “I can finish this the day before.” Sound familiar? You might feel great now, but when you’re staring down at your report card later, it’ll feel like you just got punched.

This is a cliche, but the greatest obstacle to your success is yourself - especially the lies you tell yourself! Sit yourself down and be honest about what you need to improve on. Be as blunt as you can, but for god’s sake, don’t throw yourself a pity party! There’s no use agonizing over what you can’t change. Instead, set realistic, achievable goals, and make a game plan. Struggling with math? Go to extra help. Behind in all your classes? Stay in for a couple nights and actually work.

STEP TWO: STOP WITH THE FANCY SHIT

Now you know what your goals are, but maybe you want some inspiration, so you log on to tumblr and are instantly bombarded by all these beautiful, well lit shots of the most gorgeous bullet journals, planners, and notes. Impressive, right? Well, I’m gonna let you in on a little secret: they’re all useless! A simple phone planner works just as well, if not better, than a fancy agenda, because you’ll always have it on you, it’s not a hassle to carry around, and you don’t feel obligated to make it look pretty.

Riddle me this, where are you going to find all this extra motivation to keep prettying up your bullet journal? To write all your notes in perfect, colour coded printing? There aren’t many times in life where taking the easy was out will actually benefit you, so take advantage! Stop wasting your time; get a phone planner and write your notes in your natural goddamn handwriting.

STEP THREE: CLEAN YOUR ROOM

Yep, your entire room - not just your study space! This one can be put on the back burner for a bit if you’re on a really pressing deadline, but I wouldn’t recommend it. I’m notoriously messy, and if I don’t watch myself, I’d find myself in dirty-laundry-and-old-notes hell. A little bit of organized chaos is fine, I even encourage it! But try working when your desk is covered in mounds of paper and you have nowhere to put your laptop – it’s just not conducive to success.

Keeping your entire room clean is a way to stave off stress, frustration, and even embarrassment, because nobody wants to show potential roommates how much of a mess they are.

STEP FOUR: ACTUALLY WORK

Yeah, I know what you’re thinking: “actually work? Who does this girl think she is?” I’d probably think the same thing, except I’ve learned the valuable lesson of sucking it the hell up, and you will too. When you get home from work, grab a snack and work. When you have a free period, figure out what’s due and work. Stop reasoning yourself out of work: you’re not going to finish this later, and that will be on the test. There’s really not much to say about this one, because it’s the step that requires the most raw effort, and you’re really only going to find that within yourself. Tell yourself what’s at stake, and realize that, by setting the standard for your mediocrity now, you’re potentially trapping yourself in a cycle that will last for years.

STEP FIVE: CUT YOURSELF SOME SLACK

Maybe you’ve been on top of your shit for a day, a week, or even a month, and that’s really great. But then… you fail. You miss a deadline or you bomb a test. So what do you do now? Do you allow yourself to fall back into your old habits? Fuck no! Everyone fails, even that studyblr with those perfect bullet journal photos and a perpetually clean study space. I’m going to tell you something that’ll sound really strange: you should value your failures, especially if you worked hard to avoid them. What?! Be HAPPY about failing when I actually TRIED? Yeah, you heard me right. If you don’t know how to handle failure, then when you inevitably experience it, your reaction will be much worse.

Failing hurts, and boy, I know how embarrassing it can be. But learning how to deal with failure, and especially how to keep trying after it happens, is an invaluable lesson.

STEP SIX: TREAT. YO. SELF.

Disclaimer: I’m not suggesting you treat yourself after the most basic of tasks, because please. Treat yourself when you know you goddamn well deserve it. Remember that “all work and no play makes jack a dull boy.” If all you do is study and do your homework, then, pardon my french, your life sucks. If you don’t have friends, play a video game! Eat an entire jumbo chocolate bar! Indulge in whatever the fuck you want, you deserve it. I’m someone that has trouble prioritizing future benefits over immediate gratification, so by allowing myself little pleasures, I save myself from crashing and burning.

Hope these tips helped, but remember to take them with a grain of salt - you’re you and I’m me, and different things work for different people. Good luck!

Putting Lipstick On A Pig

by reddit user Pippinacious

Except for the whole murder thing, Courtney James seemed like a lovely young woman. She was bright, articulate, a dedicated college student and well liked waitress at a popular restaurant.

I met her when she was sitting in an interrogation room at the precinct. She was a bit on the larger side, dressed conservatively in pastel colors and minimal makeup, and when I came in, she introduced herself with a polite smile, as if we were meeting for a job interview as opposed to a police investigation. She had declined to have an attorney present, so I got right to business.

why my chem teacher is the most dad™ teacher and all-around coolest ever

- spent 5 minutes one day complaining about the transition effects and lame fonts on the old chem teacher’s lecture slides

- had us take a survey the first day of school in which he included a question about being stuck on a desert island with justin bieber

- while teaching us nomenclature conventions for alkanes, pointed at “pent-” and said “obviously you show know some of these already; if you’re a satanist you probably know what a pentagram is,” opened a discussion of temple of satan vs. satanic temple, and said he’d be interested in joining the satanic temple one day

- a lecture slide on calorimetry included a picture of a bomb calorimeter, which he explained in depth, then held up a styrofoam cup and said “here’s a public school calorimeter”

- someone asked a question about when electronegativity becomes polar, so he pulled up a spectrum running from non-polar to ionic and said “it’s a spectrum. like gender. you know how some people think a person is a girl even if they say they’re a guy and vice versa? there are still non-polar bonds with high electronegativity and people think they should be polar but just because they have a certain electronegativity doesn’t mean they’re polar. pls be understanding of ur covalent kids.”

- uses a yardstick instead of a pointer

- waves said yardstick around frequently, mostly for no reason.

- once said (ironically) that he saw less and less bullying in classrooms now and that was a bit disappointing even though it was good. added that “if i had to suffer then you all do too” in a bitter tone of voice. when a english teacher walked in and asked him why he was waving the yardstick around he said it was because he was reminiscing on the bullying days.

- couple of us asked if we should get a new periodic table to take the test with since we’d written all over ours. he said no because if we’re smart enough to think ahead and cheat then we deserve the a.

- actually has a degree in philosophy. he’s so fucking nerdy

- he bikes to school everyday and then carries his bike up two flights of stairs to his classroom

- sometimes during tests he pulls a bagel and peanut butter out of his desk and eats them while watching us silently

- this one time we walked into class and he’d shaved off his half-beard into a mustache and when we asked why he said “i’m not a huge fan of it but my wife likes it so i do it for her”

- used the trump supporter kid’s logic against him without explicitly expressing his political views so no one can actually get him fired

- complains to our class about how much he hates us

- explained catalytic converters to us once, then pointed at me with the yardstick and said “barrett you’re gonna love this because it involves carbon monoxide and like, suffocating yourself”

- i started crying once in class and he literally refused to give me the test because he didn’t think it would be fair to make me test while having an anxiety attack so he sent me into the lab and closed the classroom door and let me ugly cry. i kept begging him to let me take the test tho so he sighed and said “im ur dad right now not ur teacher please don’t take the test just light some incense and listen to some reggae or something and chill”

- i used pig’s blood in my chem internal assessment and when i asked him where i could store it overnight he shrugged and was like “i guess put it in the fridge in the teacher’s lounge and i’ll just tell people not to drink your blood”

- he knows our class so well it’s a little scary. predicts exactly what’s going to happen in certain circumstances with like 100% accuracy

- this one girl in my class didn’t finish her homework but we submit in through pictures on google classroom so she sent in a picture of her dog and he accepted it and gave it 10/10

how to stick your plans

by a horrible procrastinator

scheduling:

  • keep things realistic. you may think you can read 200 pages of jane eyre in one night, and honestly, you could…but you won’t unless that essay that’s 30% of your grade is due, you know, tomorrow.
    • you know your habits better than anyone. try to work around what you know you’re going to do. can you read about 25 pages without getting totally bored/sidetracked? well, make yourself do that. it’s only 25 pages, right?
  • try to accomplish one thing every day. don’t ever let your day slip away from you without doing anything. even if that “one accomplishment” is making a stupid text post on tumblr or revising your notes or washing your sheets…just be productive!
    • this is especially important for those of you with mental illness! having a “zero day” can really plummet your mood or set you in an unproductive rut.
    • if you really feel like you need a day to just chill out, napping can count as your accomplishment
  • don’t push studying off! you’ve probably heard this one a million times, but seriously. don’t. you’re not going to retain 10 weeks worth of information with one study session…okay, maybe you can, but do you really want to?
    • the best, low-effort way of remembering information is to, at first, review it often. right after you learn the material, review it a couple times during the week. maybe re-write your notes that weekend. then, the next week, visit one or two times, just glazing over parts you don’t really remember well. then, maybe once every two weeks, etc…by the time you get to finals, you’ll be familiar with all the information! trust me, it works.
  • organize your to-do’s. personally, i make a huge to-do list for the entire week. then, i delegate different ‘levels’ of urgency to it (see below.) you can do this however you want, but i do it this way to help me visualize how lazy i can be and not pay for it…
    • i tend to organize it by these ‘categories’ / ‘urgent levels’
      • is there a quiz on the material due soon
      • how likely is there to be a pop quiz
      • what’s my grade in the class like / how badly do i need that ‘a’
      • does the homework/assignment need to be turned in
      • etc

actually doing it:

  • studyspo helps. okay, i know this is kind of obvious considering i’m a studyblr, but… you see that notebook you just bought? isn’t it fucking adorable? don’t you want to make some sweet, sweet note-love to it? you know you do.
    • don’t spend too much time setting up your work space or browsing tumblr. seriously. you know when you’re overstepping.
  • have some nice playlists. preferably with music you already know! if you don’t know the song already, chances are it’s just going to become a distraction.
    • 8tracks is a great site for this! you can make your own mixes or take a listen to one of the many, many study / chill playlists available. again, take a listen to the track on your way to class or whatever before actually trying to study with it on.
    • instrumentals + classical + video game music are the standard
  • get organized. messy = stressy. seriously. organize your desk, organize your notes. even if it’s not really your style, at least try to keep things ‘in your personal order.’ try to pretend you have your shit together. you will be so much more productive & confident if you feel in control of your situation.
    • if you’re a perfectionist, you may want to disregard this. really. you don’t want to put ‘tidiness’ above productivity.
    • taking pictures of your awesome, super-nice work space is awesome motivation. give that illusion of productivity. become tumblr famous.
    • if you can afford it, matching stationary and cute shit like that is super awesome feeling. it makes studying aesthetically satisfying.
  • take care of yourself. brush your teeth, put on that nice-smelling lotion, drink water. eating healthy foods, getting some exercise, all that good shit people tell you to do…it really is important. it’s kind of hard to focus or remain motivated if you’re miserably bloated & haven’t showered in 3 days.
    • especially for my neurod or mentally ill followers!

i fucked up

  • repeat after me: IT’S OKAY. IT’S OKAY. we all fuck up. you’re allowed to fuck up. sometimes assignments don’t get done, sometimes we don’t do as well on tests as we’d like. it’s okay. you’re okay.
  • recovery. alright, so, now that we’ve accepted that we’re human beans who sometimes grow upside-down…
    • cuddle in a blanket, and write down what you think you did wrong. did you not study enough? do you need to go to your professors office hours? write down your ideas.
    • let your failure motivate you! you hit your lowest point, alright? now you can focus on doing better, even if it’s just a few points difference.
    • you can do some things wrong. you don’t need to get an A every single time. did you understand 50% of the material? well, that’s halfway there!
    • you’re not going to be perfect at everything. we all have growing pains.

well, that’s all i have to say. keep growing towards the sun, kids.

40 Study Tips & Tricks

I thought to write down the “script” to one of my most viewed videos, with 40 study tips & tricks. It’s easier to read them and pass on the word!

Organization Tips:

1. Incorporate homework and classes in you daily planner – that will give you an overall glimpse of how your week will be about and how much time you need to spend in your studying sessions!

2. Color coordinate classes – be it notes, your planner, your textbooks or binders, pick a unique color for each class and work around the hues of that color to get more organized!

3. Make your own syllabus – if your professor doesn’t provide a syllabus for your class, try to make one before the school year working around your given textbooks or other given material.

4. Make study guides – make a study guide from your syllabus and draw before each topic two boxes: one for a midtest and one for the final test. When you have one of these tests, check the boxes when you’ve finished studying the chapter so you won’t miss anything!

5. Reference your material throughout – most of the times, we students work with in-class notes, textbooks and a syllabus. Since we get small bits of information here and there it’s important to reference every page throughout all your material so you can quickly access your information without having to flip endlessly through pages!

6. Keep a dashboard nearby – Whenever you use a notebook or a binder, make a dashboard on the first page with post it notes so you can quickly scribble any questions, homework or page numbers. When you get home, you just need to open your dashboard and attend those notes.

7. Print any tests, exercises and exams you can find – keep those in the end of your binder. These are perfect to practice before exams and tests because they really reflect what you will be tested about. Set an alarm clock for the deadline and start working on those!

8. Condense – organization disappears when you have too many of everything. Working with more than one planner in your life will make everything chaotic. If you think you need a second planner because you don’t have enough space to write in the first one, it’s because you don’t have available time as well. Don’t fool yourself and set achievable goals!

9. Customize your textbooks – most of the times, textbooks are formal books where information is hard to come by. Make your own tabs and write every chapter on them so they stick out – flag any charts, tables or graphics. Everything needs to be incredibly accessible!

10 Print a special planning sheet before finals: Organizing your studying by chapters and/or topics before finals is tremendously important since it lets you organize the amount of time you dedicate to each subject,

Study Sessions and Time Management

11. Save at least one afternoon or one morning a week for intensive studying. These is your “life-saver” – when you get so full of homework and projects that you can’t incorporate them into your daily academic routine, one free afternoon to organize your school life will really come in handy! Make an appointment with yourself!

12. Prepare in advance – although most professors may not ask you to prepare a class in advance, if you have the means to, go ahead. Grab a sheet and make a summary of the chapter your class will be about. Write the major topics and key information and take that guide to class. When your professor repeats previously studied information, you will be able to understand everything much better!

13. Never leave something behind – Even if you have a more light class, where professors don’t request homework or any side projects, don’t let that fool you! Be disciplined and be your own professors! Make your own projects and learn everything you can so you can nail those finals when they arrive.

14. Write your questions – most of the time, in a heavy study session, we come up with tons of questions and sometimes we just leave them behind. Write them down in your dashboard or a small notebook and ask your professors (personally or via e-mail). You can also ask your schoolmates in a facebook group created for that purpose!

15. Set an alarm clock and reward yourself – even if you study during an entire afternoon your studying will be pointless if you don’t take regular breaks. Set an alarm clock for one hour/one hour and a half and then take a 15 minute break. Never study for more than 2 hours straight! Even if you don’t notice, you’ll get less and less focused.

16. . Make a list – before each study session I like to grab my notepad and write down everything that I need to do before my session ends: the chapters I need to read, the pages I need to go through and the homework I need to complete. Sometimes I even write theses lists when I’m in college so I’ll have more determination to complete those tasks once I get home.

17 Work on the least interesting thing first. There are always classes or projects that we like the least – and those are the ones that we need to tackle first. You will start your studying session concentrated, which will let you go through the worst tasks faster.

18 Print, print, print. try to print everything you can and never study from your computer. Having your PDF files printed at hand will let you concentrate better, highlight and write some notes in the margins. You can take these everywhere with you and even turn them into small guides for future classes!

19. If you finish ahead, don’t quit. Perhaps the time you’ve saved for your study session has come to an end way before you have planned. That doesn’t mean you should stop right now – Take that time to review what you’ve learned so far or prepare other classes ahead of time!

20. Study in an organized space – make your own studying corner – bring everything you will need, from textbooks, binders and notebooks, to a cup of coffee and your computer. Keep them neatily organized on your desk so everything is at hand and on sight. Put on some soft background music (links down below) and adjust the lightning.

In class notes

21. If your professor provides PowerPoint slides before each class, print them (six or four per page) and bring them to class. Write in the margins and more throughout information in the back so it’s all condensed and tight. This is where you’ll take your notes. If you prefer to write on lined paper, think about copying some ruled paper to the back of your printed slides.

22. If your professor asks you to prepare your class in advance, try to make a small guide for each class. Open the comments column in MSWord and print the pages with that column. When you go to class, incorporate the in-class notes in that column, next to the relevant information so everything is nice and condensed.

23 If you are in a information-heavy class, try to adopt the Cornell method, which is the best, in my opinion, when you need to be a fast writer. There’s a video right here on how to use this method.

24. If you are in a bits-and-pieces class, which is that kind of class where the professor just gives a few key points and then gives practical examples or makes you work in group, try to adopt the box method – you can draw these boxes yourself or make them with post it notes – these are way more visual and perfect to memorize information.

25. Write in-class flashcards – if you don’t have flashcards around, make tiny flashcards on the top of your notes, where you cover the definitions you’ve written with the name of the definition. Each time you open your notes, try to remember the hidden definition. Automatic studying, every time!

26. Participate in class – nothing better than to be actively involved in your class discussion. For most of us, shy creatures, participating can be dreadful – but once you get out of your box, you’ll see how participating really makes you understand the subject!

27. If you have any questions during class, raise your hand and ask them. If your professor doesn’t like being interrupted, write them down and approach them in the end of the class. Sometimes, the little things we don’t understand are exactly the ones that come up on the final exam!

28. Ask for examples. Examples are probably the thing that makes your brain connect the information faster. If your professor isn’t keen on providing examples, suggest your own and see if your answer comes up right. Sometimes, examples are the thing that really makes us understand our material and our definitions, since they transform formal information into relatable events.

29. Sit at the front. It sounds too straightforward but sitting at the front really makes wonders. You won’t get distracted by what you classmates are doing, you will focus on the professor, who is right in front of you and you will resist the temptation of going to Facebook and Instagram during a boring presentation.

30. Write a brief summary at the end of the class. During those five minutes where everyone is dismissed and leaving the room, write a brief summary of that classes’ key points in the back of a page – this is fundamental in the Cornell method but can be used in any other method as well.

Finals Guide

31 Skim through your material two times: at first, you should start by studying your material starting from the end. The last lessons will be fresh in your memory and it’s very important to reinforce your knowledge on these while you can. In the second reading, you should start from the beginning, as usual. It’s important to make these two readings so you can go through the information in a much more flexible way.

 32. Make a mindmap of each chapter. A mindmap is a chart that relates key words and important information, making it easy to understand the relationship and hierarchy between such key words. Use colors and images to memorize your material better. Oh, and don’t forget to check out my video on how to make mindmaps!

33. Read each of the titles and try to say out loud its contents, explaining each concept and the relationship between them. Imagine you are the teacher and are lecturing that subject to a crowd. If you skip any of the subjects, do it all over again. The more you repeat, the better you will memorize.

34. It’s time for some flash cards!  Write the topic or the title on one side and the meaning or the explanation on the other. Try to cover as many topics or titles as you can and go through your cards while memorizing as best as you can each of the concepts. Try to do it backwards if you have time to do so!

35. On the day before the exam, skim through your mindmaps and flash cards again and always try to study while talking. Saying your content out loud will force your brain to relate information in a much more cohesive way and you’ll memorize everything much better.

36. Read the entire exam from top to bottom. Underline or circle any important words that you think will be crucial in you answer. After that, calculate how much time you should spend answering each question: this simple calculation will take only twenty seconds and will help you organize your time. Try to save five minutes at the end for revisions.

37. If you are solving a written exam and not multiple choice, try as much as possible to organize each answer in a structured way, saving two lines just to present your line of thought and writing each different argument in a different paragraph. Draft a conclusion at the end to underline the centre of your answer. Sometimes softly underlining some keywords is important to make your professor notice that you’ve correctly given importance to certain concepts.

38. Use these symbols for each question: one dot if you aren’t sure of the answer, two dots if you are sure of your answer and a circle if you are completely unaware of your answer. Start by answering any question with two dots; after those are all answered, go on through the two dots question. Leave the circle questions to the end – and ALWAYS answer them! Even if you don’t know what they’re about, who knows if you will be able to come up with something right?

39. Review your test one final time – many times, we make a lot of mistakes under stress and now is when you should spot them and amend them. This can be the difference between a B and an A!

40. Don’t take this too seriously – school is an important aspect of our lives but it isn’t everything. Failure comes many times and these failures can even drive you away from something that was simply not meant to be. Don’t stress out because everyone goes through the same!

Tip if you live with room mates or parents:

Make your bedroom your SANCTUARY. Make a place you want to go to at the end of the day to relax, having a dirty room is so stressful. And I get it, you sit there and stare at it, but don’t tackle the clutter because it’s overwhelming. My advice, just start somewhere. Even if it takes you a few days. GET RID OF STUFF YOU DON’T NEED. Minimize your belongings. (Read DO LESS by Rachel Jonat. It has seriously changed my view on organization and clutter and has opened my habits and my mind to minimalism) I donate all of my unused but salvageable goods to thrift stores, because keeping them around to try and sell them can cause you to continue to be overwhelmed.
Then, once you’re room is cleaned, let your bed be your bed. It’s for sleeping and lounging only. Try to get a good desk for homework and study.
Then for decorations
GET COZY SHEETS, CANDLES, FAIRY LIGHTS, drape tulle or tapestries along your walls or ceilings with push pins or command hooks. (Small Holes in walls are easy to fix by yourself btw, just do a quick google search.)
Get a cozy comforter and comfy pillows. If you have an uncomfortable mattress, get a comfy foam mattress topper (@ target for $12) to help. Keep a little tray that you can lay your night time goodies on. Mine has a lavender pillow spray, a wide tooth comb, water bottle, Vaseline (I put it on my lips, lashes and brows before bed), and my notebook in case I have any wild ideas I want to jot down during the night.
Keep a catch all try by your door. Lay your keys, sunglasses, watch, etc. there, so you know where they are when you’re rushing out the door. Also, have a place to put your purse. If you can’t put a hook on the wall to hang it up, get an over the door hook hanger from Walmart. (I love this thing because I keep my purse, school bag, fave Nike hat and umbrella there, and I always know where I put them.
Use things like white boards, calendars, and pin boards to keep yourself organized, and design yourself a motivational vision board.
ORGANIZE YOUR DRESSER. Keep socks, undies, bras, tights in the top drawer, then shirts, then pants. But if you can, hang up tips that you know will get wrinkles easy.
Put a cozy rug in your room to keep your feet warm, but don’t forget to clean it, because if you have pets it will start to stink.
Keep clutter off your bed and DIRTY CLOTHES IN THE HAMPER. I don’t care if you need 3 hampers, idc if you need 3 hampers for dirty clothes and 2 for clean clothes, just KEEP THEM OFF THE FLOOR.
Play some chill music while you just hanging out. Light your candles, sit back, and enjoy your beautiful chill room.

PLANNING YOUR WEEK

Start early!

  • Planning your week should start Saturday night. The week officially begins on Sunday, and Saturday night is the day to figure out everything that will be happening. By doing this, you do not have to spend meaningless time on the Sunday which commences your week with tasks such as planning. Everything should already be planned.

Find out what is on your plate for the upcoming week

  • Look at your school’s portal, or the syllabus, whatever your instructors use to inform you of tests, quizzes, essays and other assessments. Write down what is coming up this week!!! Know everything there is to know about what will be on your plate.

Use color

  • Color is an extremely effective categorization tool. It can allow you to distinguish between tests, quizzes, essays, homework assignments, extracurricular activities, health, personal activities, and more. Assign a color to each subsection of your plan, and create a key so you’re aware of what’s happening. Stay true to this color key, and don’t stray from it.

Prioritize

  • Your plan should feature the most important things to complete and the least important. However, your plan should also establish a general understanding of the ranking system these assignments fall under. If you have a very important test coming up which will count for a large portion of your grade, it should be featured earlier in and stressed more clearly in your plan. Utilize highlighters to clarify the importance level of different assignments.

Make time parameters

  • Making a plan is very important, but assigning time blocks to the plan is arguably even more important. Consider what you do every day after school. Think about how much you do after every day, and at what times you will be doing homework. Consider the length of time it takes to complete each assignment. Then, assign time blocks to each assignment. For example, you could assign “English Essay” for 4 pm - 6 pm, then “Break” from 6 pm - 6:30 pm, then “Math Worksheet” from 6:30 pm - 8 pm. This will keep you on track and going to sleep at a reasonable time.

Leave time for fun

  • It cannot be all school all the time - it is not healthy or conducive to effective living. Leave time for fun and breaks. This can manifest in reading a nice book in between assignments, or planning a hangout session with friends during the week. You only get one childhood, and you can NOT spend the entirety of it in academic mania.

Feature your extracurriculars and appointments

  • When you plan out everything, you have to include e v e r y t h i n g. This means that you must feature any meetings you have for extracurricular commitments, doctors appointments, personal appointments and more. This will ensure your plan is truly accurate.

Make copies!!!

  • Put your plan EVERYWHERE. There should be a copy in your planner, a copy in your bullet journal (if you have one), a copy on your desk, a copy on your mirror, and more. Put the plan anywhere you look often, and anywhere it won’t be drowned by other things.

U S E I T

  • Do not ignore the plan, now that you’ve spent all this time making it. Put it to good use! Keep it with you. Love it, learn it, and make it again next Saturday.
What’s up, it’s Alexei!

When Ngozi posted this picture yesterday of young post-draft Tater “trying his darnedest to answer press questions in English,” I thought, “You know, I could make a play fic out of that.” Which is what led to the following 2700+ words about Tater and his ESL tutor.

Many, many thanks to @ktheunready for being my Russian authenticity consultant and beta!

Georgia Martin stood at the back of the media scrum and watched Alexei Mashkov stumble his way through his post-draft interview, saw the way his fingers kneaded the brim of the brand-new Falconers’ cap he’d been handed for the initial official photos, saw the way his eyes widened and stayed intently glued to whoever was asking him a question, like he was afraid he’d miss some key bit of meaning if he blinked.

She pulled out her phone and made a call.

***

«No, Mama, I promise, my room is very nice. The family is very nice. Everything is very…»

«Let me guess, nice? »

Alexei sighed. «Yes.»

«You know I don’t doubt you, right, Alyosha? I’m not worried you can’t do this. You will be fine. But I know this is your first time to live in another country, with none of the boys from your teams here. It can be… hard, sometimes. I know.»

«Yeah, Mama, I know. You told me.»

«Are you telling me you’ve heard the stories of my youth too many times?» she asked in mock outrage.

«No, no!» he laughed. «Of course not.»

«Good. I should think not.» He could picture her face exactly, and it made him smile. «I’m glad your host family seems nice, Alyosha. I’m sure you will have many friends in no time.»

He flopped back on the bed again and stared at the ceiling. «I hope so.»

«We’ll talk again soon. Love you, son.»

«Love you, too.»

He hung up and let his phone rest on his chest. He’d been to America before. He’d thought he’d known what it would be like, that it wouldn’t be so bad. Different, yes, but there would be so many interesting new things to see, and new teammates, and he certainly knew how to play hockey. What he had failed to take into account, apparently, was how exhausting it was to try to function in English all day. For a US hockey team, the Falconers’ roster was shockingly low on Russian players, so his host family was one of the French Canadian ones. To their credit, they did speak some Russian, but it was hardly enough to have a real conversation. Alexei felt like he’d been practically mute all day.

i. write a to-do list and prioritize it.

whether it be in an agenda book/planner, bullet journal, or your phone, you’ll need to write tasks down so you don’t forget and not have to backtrack! then, find a way to prioritize your tasks, typically i organize it by subject and then by urgency using stars to indicate how important it is. however, find a priority system that works for you the best and stick with it! once you do that, reorganize your to-do list in order of priority and you can start going down the list.

ii. know your constants.

constants are things that usually happen every day. constants include sleeping, eating, classes, extracurriculars, jobs, etc. write down all the times you have to do these things/want to do these things, so you can take it into account when scheduling other tasks. for instance, if you know that an extracurricular will keep you an extra hour away from home, organize ways to do your homework in school (i.e. at lunch) or know that you might have to sacrifice a task or two to keep yourself on schedule.

iii. be mindful of limits and events.

it’s okay to say “yes” to hang out with your friends and opportunities. but if you know it’ll feel more like a burden, if you have something important to study for, and ultimately if you’ll be more stressed out if you go — then say no. make sure that you can handle taking some time out if you say yes! when you add events that you say yes to, incorporate it into planning and treat it as a constant, because most likely that plan won’t change much in terms of time. appointments with doctors or dentists should also be treated like constants as well! (don’t let school consume you entirely but also hold yourself back if you know you need to study/prepare.)

iv. set specific times for each task & learn to adapt!

if you don’t tell yourself when to begin and when to end, you’ll never get to either place, and you won’t be as organized or as motivated to finish on time. think about how much time it will take you to complete a task, and give yourself at most a half hour extra–just in case something unforeseen comes into play, it won’t shift your entire schedule. write these times down next to the things on your list. set alarms if you want to! keep in mind that you’ll probably need to move tasks to the next day, so you’ll need to adapt accordingly.

make sure to check off tasks as you go so you know that you completed it. it’ll make you more productive seeing your progress too!

v. create study times.

try your best to organize regular studying time into your schedule. even if it’s just for an hour or two to brush up on one or two subjects, studying regularly will keep the information in your head. make sure to find room for extra time to study the subject you have the hardest time on. add more study time as you get closer to the date of a quiz/test/exam, too!

vi. use deadlines to your advantage.

always set deadlines two days early (or earlier). getting ahead of deadlines will help you relax in the end and procrastination won’t be as harsh. plus, it gives you more time to tweak an essay, practice a presentation, etc. if you have it done earlier — not to say that you shouldn’t have already done this prior to your created deadline! especially for projects or essays, try and break up tasks into even smaller tasks so you know the exact steps you need to take. for instance, instead of saying “Work on English essay,” split it into “Research for essay,” “Outline essay,” “Write intro paragraph,” etc., and make sure you have specific deadlines for those too so you don’t leave all those small tasks to the last minute.

vii. take a break!

if you don’t take breaks, you’ll end up burning out. even though school may seem in priority, you are always the number one priority. if you don’t feel well physically or mentally, then give yourself some time to relax. read a book, take a bath–whatever helps you destress. i always try and take a break for a half-hour in between long work sessions, and shorter breaks in between a couple of shorter tasks. sometimes, i use the pomodoro method! insert breaks into your schedule so you have some time to yourself. during one of these breaks, you can do something as simple as organizing your desk if it’s a mess to keep yourself productive and relieve some stress if a clean study space is required for you to be motivated and focused. you can also exercise, drink water, or get up and walk around a bit during these breaks too!

viii. get some sleep.

Sleep is important. The average teenager needs about nine hours of sleep, and in general, adults need seven to nine hours. Figure out when you want to wake up in the morning, and count back the hours. Try and start to unwind (stop doing work, get ready for bed) about a half an hour before you sleep. Read a book, check social media briefly–just something that lets you relax and eases you into sleep. Waking up, set a few sets of alarms to go off anywhere in 10-20 minute intervals, just in case you don’t wake up or to start waking you up sooner so you’re actually awake by the time you want to and your body is less drowsy.

ix. focus on the task.

- put a clock in front of you so you are aware of the time you’re spending! a calendar would also be useful to help visualize your deadlines.

- put your phone on airplane mode, do not disturb, turn it off, etc. and put it on the other side of the room so you can focus on the tasks at hand. personally, i use bluetooth headphones so i can listen to music from my phone while it’s away and so i don’t have to break out my laptop which is full of distractions.

- take note of how much time is lost due to deviating from a task so you realize what distracts you and how to remove yourself from those distractions.

- sit down with all the materials you’ll need for studying before beginning so you won’t interrupt your focus looking for a notebook.

good luck and get to work!

Green-Eyed Monster (Jughead x Reader Smut)

Prompt: Hey I was wondering can you make a smut one where like jughead gets jealous because you’ve been spending a lot of time with another guy for whatever reason and he confronts you about it ? Thank you so much in advance I’m like in love with your blog ❤️❤️❤️

Hi! Can I have a Jealous!Jughead Jones smut? Maybe Y/N is spending a lot of time with Archie and Jug gets jealous (duh) and shows her who she ‘belongs’ to?

A/N: Jealous Jughead is my life purpose. Hopefully I did okay on this one! Sorry it’s short! Requests are welcome.

Warnings: Jealousy? Light Smut. A few swears?

Masterlist

Green-Eyed Monster (Jughead x Reader)

It all started with Archie asking you to help him with his english paper. It was known around school that you were good at english and had a keen eye for editing so it wasn’t out of the ordinary when your ginger friend asked for your help.

You had already finished and edited your own paper as well as looking over your boyfriend, Jughead’s. So You simply shrugged and told him to meet you at the library.

After the first meeting, Archie asked you to help him with some other stuff so he could keep up his grades for football. You agreed as you’re always happy to help out a friend.

That was Monday.

You told Jughead that Arch needed help with homework and that he was welcome to come as well but he simply shrugged, walking away with a frown on his face.

It’s been a week and your boyfriend has been acting differently since you started hanging out with Archie more. You guys moved your meeting from the Library to Pop’s and Arch always offered to pay as a thank you for helping him.

You run into school late, your hair everywhere and your breathing rigid. It’s your first time being late, your alarm clock not ringing for some reason.

Thankfully, you get to class before the teacher arrived. You walk into the chaotic classroom full of rowdy students talking, laughing, and throwing things around. You walk to your seat in the front of the classroom, planning on just studying when suddenly a body steps in front of you.

“Hey Y/N,” smirks Baekhyun.

You roll your eyes, not wanting to deal with him so early in the morning. “Move Baekhyun.”

things i do when taking a study break:
  • Practice hand lettering/watercolor painting/handwriting in different styles - there are a ton of resources and inspiration references online (for hand lettering, there’s a few instagram accounts that I love; with my watercolors, I do a lot of hand lettering and color mixing and doodles; as for handwriting, studyblr is a great reference for that, there’s so much variety and so many new styles to try out!) - I like this one because it has the same vibe as taking notes, but without all the mental energy
  • Read a book for fun - my go-to will always be re-reading harry potter (my very heart and soul), but anything that’s chill/familiar/interesting/easy to read/relaxing works great for this!
  • Go for a walk! - give yourself a set time to get back to work, but go outside and clear your head, get some fresh air, take some pictures out in nature, watch the sunset
  • Grab a snack - ideally something away from your desk to give yourself a break that feels like a break. Grab something healthy or something not-so-healthy. Treat yo’ self.
  • Listen to new music - find a new artist or an old artist, pay attention to the lyrics and instruments and backing vocals, really get into the song
  • Make a studyblr post - show off what you’re studying or any tips you’re working with/realizing as you’re working on your homework (I don’t know about y’all, but I always feel most inspired for things like this when I’m trying to work on something else - take a break and use that inspiration)
  • Clean ur room!! - having a clean room helps you think clearly and it gives you less to worry with later on. Similarly,
  • Start a load of laundry - that way, you have a guaranteed break when you have to put the wet laundry into the drier in about an hour, and another break when you have to get it out of the drier and put it away. Plus, you’re being double-productive.
  • Decorate/plan out a bujo spread - still in that same productive realm as homework, but it’s much more fun and creative!
  • Check tumblr - a dangerous suggestion, perhaps, but just make sure to give yourself a limit and stick to it: like you can only check the first 10 pages of your dash before getting back to work.

These are just a few things I like to do! What are some of your go-to study break activities?

Bestfriend Trouble (1/2) | Zach Dempsey x Reader

Genre: Romance, Fluff
POV: Reader’s and Zach’s (POVs are stated before a section.)

A/N: Hello guys! This is a 2-Part story and both parts are from different requests. This is actually a bit different from the request below but I just really wanted to connect both requests so yup haha. I hope you guys enjoy!

Request: I was wondering if you could pretty please do an imagine where Zach is just hopelessly in love with the reader, he does dorky things to see her smile, his friends always tease him when she walks by, she always catches him staring at her during class or lunch, he gets really nervous when she talks to him and he tries to keep his cool when she’s near but he always fails and is just super cute, just super fluffy.

—–

READER’S POV

“Y/N! Y/N LOOK! LOOK!” Zach says through his mouth full of chicken tenders while he sat in front of me.

“Look how many chicken tenders I can fit in my mouth!” he continues as he tries to get my attention and I look at him in disgust, but it was pretty impressive too if I’m being completely honest.

“Zachary stop it, you look like an idiot.” I reply as I go back to reading my History notes. I promised myself that I’ll do better after failing our most recent quiz.

“I’m not going to stop until I see a smile on your face. Stop getting so bothered by that stupid quiz! There’s always 10 more after that anyway.” he says as he removes the chicken from his mouth one by one, chewing the others in the process.

“I need to keep my grades high, you know this, or else my parents will be so disappointed in me.” I reply as I become even more upset, I lean my head down on my notes.

“You’re already the perfect daughter, the perfect student and the perfect girl. No one can ever be disappointed in someone like you. You’re too hard on yourself sometimes, you don’t even see how amazing you are.” he says and I lift my head up to face him.

“You’re just saying that to make me feel better.” I say as lean my chin on my right hand while pouting and Zach gets a sip of my milkshake. When he parted the glass from his mouth, a white vanilla foam moustache was left on his upper lip. He looked like one of those History people we learn about. I purse my lips while trying to hide the obvious smile on my face.

“A-HA! Is that a smile?! I see a smile! Yes! I made you smile!” he beams, fists pumping up in the air.

“You really are an idiot.” I reply as I shake my head at him and hand him a tissue.

“It’s fine. I don’t mind acting like an idiot as long as I can make you happy.” he says while munching on a french fry and I scoff at him.

Zach Dempsey has been my bestfriend ever since we were in 3rd grade when I gave him a sip of my strawberry milk and he threw up all over me shortly after. That was the first time I found out about his very sad allergy. It’s a classic story between him and I. Since then, we’ve been inseparable.

Being bestfriends with one of the most popular guys in school means you’re also friends with the people around him. You get invited to all the cool parties, you get VIP passes at every school event and people automatically think you’re more important than you actually are. It was great, but not always. I missed being with Zach, just him, just the two of us and it was moments like right now that I treasure most.

“Oh by the way, we’re all going to see the new Fast and Furious movie tomorrow night. I’ll pick you up at 7 okay?” Zach suddenly asks.

“Please don’t tell me that obnoxious friend of yours will be coming too.” I say as I roll my eyes.

“Bryce? No no, Justin didn’t invite him.” he replies with a laugh.

“Alright then I’m in!” I answer and get back to reading my History notes.

The next day

I stood by my locker as I get the books I need for next period. Great, I thought to myself, Physics next, my least favorite subject. I sigh in disappointment as I shut my locker door. I turn to my right and a smiling Zach Dempsey was leaning on the locker next to mine.

The 'No Excuses' Study System to Get That A

I  School Days  1. Show up to class a little early. It’ll give you time to set up, read over some old notes, put your water bottle/thermos on your desk, fill out your planner if you couldn’t in the previous period(s), check your planner to see if you have something on that day etc. 2. Sit in the front or second row. I’m serious, you will definitely benefit. Write detailed class notes. Pick whatever system works for you. I usually write my titles in red pen, notes in black pen, underline points that are repeated/emphasised, highlight keywords at home 3. If you have time at school, do as much homework as you can. If you know you have commitments that day, please for the love of your education do your homework at lunch. I know you might feel awkward, but your friends will understand.  4. When you get home, first list down all the homework received that day on a q card (cross off as you go). Then write the same tasks in your bullet journal, but as a daily spread. Use stayfocusd or self control for mac + leave phone in a different room. FINISH ALL OF YOUR HOMEWORK. If for some reason you couldn’t complete a homework task, write it on a sticky note and place it on your wall. After homework is done, write your revision notes (flashcard the info as well). Place the notes in your accordion folder/binder. If you have some loose sheets at any point, place them in a ‘To Be Filed’ box. Sort that out when you’re packing your bag for the next day. 5. Go through the flashcards made that day and the flashcards made on the previous days.  List out all assignments/assessments on another q card with their due dates. This will come in handy later. 6. Pack your bag the night before. Remember your accordion folder + make sure your ‘To Be Filed’ box is empty. Put water bottle in the fridge and make meals for the next day. 7. The next day, wake up early, complete any unfinished homework, go through flashcards again, read through revision notes, make lunch for the day, put laptop in bag, put food + water in bag, exercise (esp if you have commitments after school), shower, change, blah blah blah. Only do this if your schedule is packed, and in my case, this is a must. II  Weekends 1. On Friday nights, first off, do homework. You will thank yourself for it. Whip out that list of assessments/assignments and allocate half days to knock off at least two of these little assholes. Work ahead, you will feel much better. 2. Do your readings. For English, knock off some wider reading novels, for HSIE, knock off some textbook unit readings (two units ahead), for science, knock off some more textbook readings. Write summaries of each page. Type these summaries. Print these summaries. Place in accordion folder/binder. Flashcard the info. Spend like half a day doing this lmao. 3. Spend 1-2 hours going through the flashcards you made that week for each subject. This counts as studying my friend.  III Weekends When You Actually Have Assessments  1. Due to your working ahead, homework completion and readings, you shouldn’t be panicking too much. Get those revision notes and slot in the textbook readings notes. Highlight, annotate, read aloud, go through flashcards and get someone to test you on the content. Make sure you know all terms, formulae, key concepts, vocabulary etc etc 2. As for assignments, again due to your working ahead just print them out and heavily edit those little asshats. Then type the edits into the doc. Repeat this process four times. Then get someone to read it. Make sure all your assignments are on your USB + email them to yourself because you never fucking know tbh.  3. You’ll probs have to sacrifice your reading time but that’s chill because the teacher/prof will probably be focusing on prepping you for the actual assessment + you gotta do what you gotta do. SUMMARY Seriously, just do your homework the day you receive it, write revision notes, do your readings, write notes on those readings, make flashcards, knock out assignments as soon as you know they actually exist, read every wider reading novel (analyse these novels), read your required readings (analyse this too), go over flashcards every morning/afternoon, make use of spare time in class, do homework at lunch if needed, stick to your schedule, buy coffee/hot chocolate in the mornings and put it in a thermos, keep a necessities pouch in your bag, keep your P.E shoes in your locker, use a planner, track your spending, wash your hair, brush your hair, go to commitments, attend school events, attend events you’re invited to, go shopping, watch movies, be kind to yourself, take bubble baths, light candles, listen to music, SLEEP, get that A and most importantly be proud of yourself.

How to Schedule Your Study Time

I’ve been asked multiple times to make a post about how to schedule your study time, so here it is! This is a little bit different of a schedule because it’s over mid-semester break (Easter break for most), but it still works.

Step 1: Write down everything you need to do.

Get out a piece of notebook paper or open a new document on your computer and unleash your brain’s to-do list. Write everything down from classes, work, events, and extracurriculars to your work outs, meals, showers, and sleep. Nothing is too small to be written on the list, so if you need to remember to shave your legs, write that down!!

Step 2: Assign each task an estimated amount of time it’ll take to complete.

This part is really crucial for me because it takes my organization a step further to help me achieve my studying and planning goals. It also gives me a reality check – sometimes I’m so ambitious I try to bite off more than I can chew. If I know from the beginning that I most likely won’t achieve everything I need to do, I won’t be as disappointed come the end of my planning and studying. It also tells me I probably need to pick it up during the week and stop procrastinating…

Step 3: Open up Excel, create a table on another computer program, or grab a piece of paper.

Next we’ll make the calendar with a readout of our obligations. I generally use Excel or a piece of paper, but I find that excel works best because I can edit future events easier if I didn’t quite complete a task I planned for.

Have the first column for times, then a column following for each day you want to plan. It helps to have the time column skinnier with the days’ columns wider so text can fit in easily. I leave two rows per hour (therefore one line is equal to one half hour) so I can plan for events or tasks that won’t be taking up whole hours.

Step 4: Designate a color for each of your scheduled categories.

These colors are the same as in my planner:

  • Purple: Anatomy & Physiology
  • Pink: Genetics
  • Blue: Beverage Management
  • Orange: Economics
  • Red: Work
  • Green: Extracurriculars
  • Black: Personal (showers, meals, sleep, relaxation, etc.)
  • Yellow: Travel

I enter in all of my class, work, event, and extracurricular times first – things I can’t miss. These are important to put into your schedule first because you can easily schedule studying around them.

Step 5: Once all of your obligations are plugged into your schedule, it’s time to fill in your studying.

This is where the required times for your tasks help a great deal! It’s easy to spot an hour block here or there and plug in a 45 minute or hour task… something that may be a little hard for some when they’re just going through their day and have a block. I know whenever I get an hour block I try to nap or rest as much as possible, but this frequently puts me behind. :(

Also, it may help you to pull out your planner and see what exams, quizzes, or assignments are coming up soon. You should rank these at a higher priority and complete these sooner rather than later to ensure you complete them.

I also group lesser tasks; for example, on Thursday night at 11:00 PM I grouped two homework assignments because they really shouldn’t take that long and they’re on the computer at the same time, etc. It’s just easier for me to get them done at the same time. Just like if you need to go to a few different stores, try to go to them all in one trip. It’ll save you time, money, and gas!

Step 6: As you’re adding tasks to your schedule, make sure you’re crossing them off your list you made. You don’t want to miss anything or add something twice!

This is pretty self-explanatory but also important! Make sure you’re adding everything and not missing anything.

Step 7: Make sure to schedule enough sleep during your night as well as time to eat/relax.

This is the most important step of them all! Without recharging your smart little brain and body, how are you going to have the fuel to move on? Also, try snacking on fruits and veggies and drinking water when you’re studying. I’m one to love candy when I’m studying and it’s hard to say “no” to my precious chocolate and skittles, but I know they’ll just bring my metabolism and energy down. Drinking a lot of water helps too because that means more bathroom breaks – which means more study breaks! ;)

I hope you found this post helpful. If you’d like to see other posts about my studying tips and tricks, please share this post and leave me a message about what I can improve or what you’d like some advice on. Happy studying! – grxeek

Hey, blossoms! There are times when we get ill, which is perfectly natural. To be honest, I am currently sick, so this is kind of a refined version of my thoughts from a few days ago. I was worried about missing school, and I thought that some ideas I have could help you!

self-care

The most important thing to do when you’re sick is to take care of yourself and get better. This may mean putting your studies aside, but health always comes first. Here’s some tips:

- Certain types of tea, like chamomile and ones with lemon, can soothe sore throats.

- (Side note: I’ve heard that marshmallows are also able to help sore throats because of the gelatin they contain, but that may not be true and I don’t have a credible source for it.)

- Make sure you drink lots of fluids, like juice, milk, and most importantly, water! One of my personal faves is Tang, which is this orange powder that you dissolve in water. It used to be really big in America a while ago but I don’t know widespread it is elsewhere.

- Try to shower regularly if you’re congested because the steam will clear out your sinuses.

 - If you can’t shower regularly, nasal rinses will work just fine too! You can get a  system for that at your local pharmacy. (There’s also this thing you can do where you fill a sink with hot water, put a towel over it, and stick your head underneath the towel. This allows the steam to build up, which means you can decongest a little.)

- Medicate regularly!! Check the directions on whatever type of medication you’re taking to see when it wears off and set a timer so you can stay on top of it. This will help your recovery process along a bit faster. However, DO NOT ABUSE MEDICATION. Take only as much as is prescribed because taking too much can actually be worse for your health.

- If you’re on antibiotics, make sure to eat well because antibiotics are designed to take out all types of bacteria within the body, even the good ones in your digestive system. (I’d personally recommend eating foods with fiber and protein and staying away from dairy if you can. That’s just my personal experience! It may be different for other people.)

- Get some rest!! You may want to catch up on your studies but you’ll be able to catch up quicker and understand material better if you’re well rested.

catching up

So, you’re feeling alright and ready to begin making up work. Where do you begin?

- Here’s some posts on catching up after being away for a while (note some of these are travel based, but there’s still some good information in there)

- Email your teachers! Text your classmates! Ask for notes, for homework, and for additional help if you’re unclear about what’s going on.

- If you’re feeling well enough, you could run in to your classes in order to get the homework and briefly conference with your teachers, but it’s always best to make sure you’re not contagious or feeling poorly before doing so. Email is pretty much just as effective.

- Start small. Trying to catch up on all your work in one day is never good. Try to do the work for maybe one class, and if you’re feeling well enough, do another.

- Do what’s most important first. If you’re in a group project and they’re waiting for your input on a presentation or something else, get that in ASAP. Don’t affect the grades of others with your illness.

returning to class

As you return to your usual schedule, here are some things to note:

 - Before going back to class, ensure you’re in a good place mentally and physically. For example, if you’re still running a fever or you still feel very ill, take some more time and wait.

- Make sure your study space is functional so that you can begin to return back to your normal schedule. The desk reflects the mind.

- Keep up on your fluids! If you’re still a little under the weather or you haven’t finished that course of antibiotics, keep taking those meds!

- Don’t be hard on yourself if you don’t understand something. Being gone is hard. Ask for help and self-advocate.

- If you’re on a sports team or doing some other strenuous activity, it’s okay to take a couple more days away from that to let your body recover completely.

- The most important thing is to take it easy, even after you’re well enough to come back to class. If you overwork yourself while still recovering, that can lead to backslide, so please be careful!!

I hope this will be useful, darlings!! Take care of yourselves and remember that so many people are rooting for you to do well, including me :]

All the love,

elle (@etudesthetics)

Beautiful - Jughead Jones

xfightxthexfairiesx said:

Could you maybe do a jughead x reader where betty and veronica want the reader to tryout for cheerleading with them but shes to self concious too because she think shes not pretty or skinny enough to be one. Then maybe jughead tells her how he thinks she beautiful and society tries to make everyone think they have to look like a supermodel to be pretty. If there can be alot of fluff that would be great. And then she decides to try out and she makes the team. Thanks

It started as a joke, something you would’ve never done unless it was in some hypothetical universe where you just weren’t you. Where you weren’t ugly or fat, instead where you were skinny and beautiful. There were unspoken rules that cheerleaders had to be the best of the best; beyond pretty and gorgeous. The whole idea of joining seemed impossible, but with Veronica and Betty breathing down your neck, it was hard to say ‘no’. So you didn’t, instead you just avoided the two girls all day. Somehow you managed this feat and made it through the day without joining the cheerleading squad. Granted, the tryouts weren’t until tomorrow so you would have yet another day of avoiding your friends.

When school ended, you went straight home and didn’t dare move from your room in the fear your friends would see you out and about. With boredom nipping at your heels, you found yourself thinking about your looks, then criticizing your figure in the mirror. Too big there, too jiggly here, you started to judge every limb and appendage. At first, you didn’t even notice the tears in your eyes, until one started to roll down your cheek. You quickly wiped it anyway, marking down another thing you hated about yourself: too sensitive. You weren’t as strong or as stunning as the celebrities on the internet and the TV screens, no, you were just below average you. Before anymore poisonous thoughts could enter your brain, you heard your phone go off. You walked over to your desk where it was and saw that it was your neighbor, Jughead Jones. You felt a sense of relief that it wasn’t Veronica or Betty.

Jughead : Hey can I come over? I don’t understand this geometry homework.

You : Sure, but I don’t know how much help I’ll be.

Jughead : Okay, be there in two.

You turned towards your window and saw Jughead leaving his room in the house across from yours. His family had lived in the house across from yours as long as you could remember. You had been friends since the first grade, when the Jones’ family moved in. You walked back over to the mirror and an horrid idea struck you. From this angle, Jughead could’ve had the perfect view to see you standing in front of the mirror, to see how upset you were. A pit grew in your stomach as you heard your front door open a shut, followed by the sound of Jughead running up your stairs.

You turned as your friend opened the door, barely making eye contact. You noticed his hands were empty and your heart fell. “Where’s your Geometry book?” You asked hopefully, trying to pretend that there was a chance he didn’t see you judging yourself in the mirror. You glanced up from his hands and saw his steady gaze. “Do you really think about my Geometry homework?” You swallowed at his words and your shoulders sagged. “There are these things,” he started, walking over to your window, “called curtains, that if you want to judge yourself in private you can just…” He reached up and gently pulled on one of your curtains, blocking the view of his bedroom window. “I wasn’t, I was just,” you stumbled over your words.

“I overheard the new girl trying to convince to join the Riverdale Vixens,” he said, faking school spirit by waving his hands with minimal effort. “I assume, you and your mirror were having a conversation about it.” You knew that there was no fooling Jughead, he could read you like a book. No lie could cover your bad self image and he wouldn’t buy it anyway. “I’m not pretty enough,” you whispered, feeling tears in the corners of your eyes. Jughead took a step towards you, leaning down to look into your face, “Say again?” You almost started to sob, “Jug, please don’t,” but your friend wasn’t having it. He placed his hands on your shoulders, slowly turning you to look into the mirror. “Now,” he murmured in your ear, “say it again.” You stared at your reflection, studying the features that you so hated. You were about to say it, but with Jughead looking at you with those eyes, you just couldn’t. You felt his hands travel from your shoulders, down your arms, and to your waist where they wrapped around your middle. You back rested against his chest and he rested his chin on top of your head. “You are so beautiful Y/N. Nothing can worth changing yourself for.” You turned in his arms to face him now and felt your cheeks grow hot at the closeness, “Jug…” He was just staring at you now, mesmerized by every detail.

“You’re so lovely, don’t let the world make you think you’re not,” his hand was on the side of your face, with his fingers in your hair. He was so utterly taken by your grace, he had been since grade school. It was killing him that you didn’t see yourself as he did and he was desperate to make you see it; but now wasn’t the time. He backed away a little, pulling his hand away from your face, “You should try out, you’ll blow them away Y/N.” You snapped out of your puppy-love induced daze and nodded. “T-thank you, Jug. I will.” He gave you a bright smile that met his green eyes. He opened his mouth once more, most likely to mention your shared moment, but he phone started to ring. He picked it out of his pocket and scowled at the screen. “I gotta go,” he said, walking towards the door, “but I’ll see you at the game, and you’ll be in a snazzy uniform.” You let out a laugh as he walked out of the room. When he was gone, you let out a sigh With a renewed sense of confidence, you texted Veronica and Betty.

You : I’ll be seeing you both at tryouts tomorrow, yes?

Veronica : Hell yes!

Betty : This is going to be so fun.

You paced around near the bleachers, pulling your jacket more securely around your shoulders and chest. Jughead had texted you a few hours before the game saying that he’d be near the right side of the bleachers. You stopped your pacing and looked out at the field, wondering if you needed to move. You almost screamed when someone put their hand on your shoulder. “Am I that scary?”

You turned and smiled at Jughead, who wore a playful expression. “How’d tryouts go, you never told me?” He asked with raised eyebrows. You bit your bottom lip, giving him a sly smile. “Did you not-” you cut him off by pulling the sides of your over sized jacket away from your body. He smiled when he saw the cheerleading uniform, “See what did I tell ya!”

You blushed but before you could say anything you heard a whistle go off. “I believe that’s your que, River Vixen.” You gave him another smile and was about to walked away when you spun around. You faced Jughead, planting a hand on his face, pulling him in. Your lips met softly, but as soon as he put a hand to your waist, the kiss became frenzied. You pulled away breathless but smiling widely, “I’ll see you after the game, Jughead.” You murmured and Jughead just nodded dumbly. “See you later, beautiful.” He said and your felt a blush rise to your cheeks. You walked away then, leaving a smile on Jughead’s face.

{Special} College!AU Shownu
  • major: statistics
  • minor: business management
  • sports: star quarterback of the uni’s football team!!!
  • clubs: joined math club and at first everyone was like,,,,,are you in the right place??? but shownu was just like “i like math.” and opened up his stat textbook and started doing worksheets for fun. also it’s not a club, but he’s the RA of his dorm floor
  • first things first: everyone always gets the wrong impression of him. like,,,,,,,when they see him in the halls or walking on campus their first thought is like “oh. he’s totally an athlete.” which is correct,,,,but then they’re like “he got in on a sports scholarship,,,,,he probably isn’t that smart,,,,,,,doesn’t he rely only on his muscles?”
  • WELL WRONG
  • shownu is incredibly smart and when people ask what his major is, expecting to hear him say something like “undecided” shownu very calmly and clearly goes “statistics. mathematics is thrilling to me.” with the most serious expression
  • that if you didn’t know him all that well you’d think he was like??? mocking uptight math majors???? but he’s not,,,,,,,,,,he really actually loves math
  • and he’s so naturally gifted at it that he ended up having to do an independent study on probable theory because,,,,,probably theory I and II were too easy for him,,,,,,,
  • the stat teachers absolutely love him because he’s so forward and realistic about everything, he like,,,,,,,,he embodies math
  • i know that sounds funny to say given that he towers over everyone in his class, has shoulders as broad as the ocean, and can probably lift three desks up in one hand
  • but the way he does things, methodically and without error,,,,,almost robotic,,,,,,is very,,,,,,,,,,,,,,Math
  • but don’t get me wrong, shownu has his charms
  • he’s actually super,,,,,like,,,,,,fatherly like he’s the parent friend of his group because he’s so realistic
  • but it can also be kind of funny because wonho and minhyuk will be talking about a party the sociology majors want to throw and shownu will be like “as long as everyone is back at the dorm by 11.”
  • and maybe it’s the RA in him speaking but minhyuk is just like “shownu,,,,,it’s a party,,,,,,it starts at 11 not ends at 11″ and shownu is like “that isn’t a good idea if you have morning class. don’t you have morning class minhyuk? i would recommend you not go to the party, you get grouchy with no sleep.”
  • and he means it with the best intentions but he sounds like a dad from a movie policing his young son and minhyuk is like I DO NOT GET GROUCHY and wonho is laughing his ass off like minhyuk,,,,,,shownu’s right you’ll just throw a fit in the morning and minhyuk is like no wonho not you too what are you my parenTS
  • it’s also really cute that shownu loves to like,,,,do housework. he’s pretty good at cooking (he calls his mom when he needs a recipe or hyungwon bothers him enough to get him to cook something specific) and he likes keeping things clean
  • sometimes people find him with his glasses on, studying a cookbook that’s called like ‘housewives homey hotpot recipes’ wearing an apron he got as a gift from jooheon and it’s just,,,,,,,endearing
  • because under that he’s got like sweats on with a fitted t-shirt and there’s his muscles,,,,,,you know Being Big
  • one of the football players on the team joked that shownu should bake some cookies for them if they won the nationals and when they did shownu actually baked a whole bunch of them
  • and they were really good
  • even the coach complimented them
  • and like no offense but whoever said boys can’t be athletic but also adorable-y good at frosting cookies into the shape of little footballs was a liar. shownu exists
  • most often, when no one is looking, shownu can let himself go a little and like im not saying he breaks out into song in the middle of his dorm dancing to shakira’s hips don’t lie like there’s no tomorrow
  • but if ioi’s pick me comes up on the TV and no one is around to watch like,,,,,,,,,,perhaps he does the choreography JUST A BIT
  • shownu doing the pick me dance while flipping pancakes though anyWAY
  • he’s an all-around amazing student, athlete, and friend. like he can juggle practicing for a game, data analysis homework, and making sure changkyun doesn’t bring anything from lab into his dorm all at once,,,,,,,,we should all strive to be students like him
  • calls his mom every weekend and tells her everything he did to the last detail like,,,,,,,,,what an actual big soft teddy bear
  • but yes you,,,,,,,,,don’t know shownu at all really. like the mathematics department is far from your department and you’ve never really crossed paths with him
  • you have seen his photo all over the school website, seeing as though he’s always there in some article about football
  • and you don’t really care, even though every one of your friends is always going on about how dreamy of man the star quarterback of the uni really is
  • but you don’t have much time, you’ve been juggling a whole bunch of schoolwork and whatnot that dating,,,,,,,,like,,,,,,,,,,,what,,,,,,,,,,,is that,,,,
  • plus big guys into sports were always loud and too self confident (from what you saw in movies) so you weren’t exactly interested in getting to know more about him
  • speaking of juggling a lot,,,,,you also had another worry on your mind aside from school work and that happened to be the stray kitten you’d found outside the uni’s library over a week ago
  • luckily the weather had been nice and clear so you’d been able to safely sneak over to feed the little kitten during the night
  • always apologizing to it that you couldn’t take it inside with you, your RA would have your neck if you got caught with an animal
  • but see,,,,,,,this weekend it was supposed to rain. like,,,,,,really hard
  • there was a weather alert on all the roadways and people with saturday classes were all whining about how they’d have to make a dash through the storm to get across campus for class
  • but all your mind fixated on was,,,,,,,,the kitten in that little flimsy cardboard box wouldn’t last out in such heavy rain
  • so even if your RA found out,,,,you were sure that maybe MAYBE you could smuggle the little guy in through your hoodie and keep him inside until the rain passed. then you planned on putting up posters to see if anyone had lost him
  • so, on the evening before the big weekend storm you threw on the biggest hoodie you can find, take some canned cat food as bait, and go out to collect the little guy
  • thankfully when you got there it looked like no one had yet found him,,,, you could hear his little mewing from the box and you were like hey!!! im glad you’re ok, taking out the food and opening it up
  • but before you could put the can into the box you felt someone behind you, their shadow towering over yours and you froze
  • “what are you doing?”
  • they asked slowly and you were like shit ,,,,,,,shit is it an RA??? slowly you turned and in the slight darkness you couldn’t see exactly who it was
  • but then the person was leaning over, their big hand going toward the box with the kitten
  • and you grabbed their hand, trying to wrench it away but,,,,,,,,,,,,,you literally couldn’t it was like grabbing a wall why heck were they so strong??
  • but they weren’t shaking you off either and when you locked eyes with this huge, strong person you were like wait -
  • what
  • and the boy looking back at you,,,,,,you’d seen that face before but where,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,oh,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,SHOWNU???
  • and he blinks, looking down at your hand still around his wrist and you’re like UM and you drop it and you’re like “plEASe,,,,,,don’t take the kitten away the storm tomorrow is coming and i just want to keep it safe please don’t hu,,,,,,hurt it,,,,,”
  • and shownu tilts his head and he’s like “hurt it? i was going to take it back to my dorm.”
  • and you’re like ??????? excuse me no I was going to take it back to my dorm
  • but you’re not about to say that to this tall, muscular man
  • and you’re like “o-oh,,,,,,,,well i,,,,i also,,,,,want,,,,,,wanted,,,,,to take it,,,,,,um,,,,,,,”
  • and you kind of shuffle a bit, feeling uncomfortable because again : you’re alone with this person who could overpower you and it’s just natural to be afraid
  • but then you see shownu carefully pick up the kitten, sitting back on his knees and holding it against his chest
  • and it’s so tiny,,,,,,,,it fits into his palm
  • and he’s like “i didn’t know someone else knew about him” and you’re like,,,,,oh ive known for a week,,,,,,but i didn’t know if i should bring him to a shelter or if someone lost him so,,,,,
  • and shownu nods and he’s like “would it be better if i took him or you” and you’re like “how much of an micromanager is your RA?” and shownu is “im the RA of my floor”
  • and you’re like WELL THEN YOU WIN MY RA WOULD MURDER ME FOR HAVING A PET
  • and shownu can tell by the look on your face when he gets up is one that clearly says ‘i don’t want to part ways with this adorable kitten’
  • and so he puts out his hand and he’s like “,,,,,,,,wanna hold him a bit”
  • and you’re like,,,,,,,yes,,,,and you cuddle the little guy up to your chest and you’re like “oh, take this!” and you use your free hand to pass shownu the cat food you’d brought along and you’re like “that way you don’t have to buy another one for tomorrow ^^”
  • and since it’s dark and you’re cooing at the kitten you don’t see how shownu holds the can, looking up at you rather softly because of how sweet that was of you
  • but when you pass him the kitten back you sigh and you’re like “ill trust you with him, but after the storm,,,,,,,i was thinking of making lost flyers for him or something,,,,”
  • shownu doesn’t say anything, but he nods.
  • opening up his hoodie, you see that he’s got a white sleeveless tank under it and once again there are those damn muscles everyone always drooling about
  • ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,and they do look nice,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
  • aNYWAy
  • and he like puts the kitten in the pocket of the tank and you’re like it’s so small it fits or maybe it’s because the shirt is large because shownu is large???? whatever he’s the math major here
  • and you’re like “,,,,,,,,,ill be going then”
  • and shownu is like “,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,after the storm,,,,,you’ll see him again”
  • and you don’t know if he’s like offering for you to come and see the kitten or if he’s just making a statement but suddenly some of the fear and nervousness you had about him and his ,,,, largeness,,,,, is gone
  • like,,,,,,,,,,,you can’t believe this but is shownu,,,,,,,the shownu from the football team who you’d assume would be cocky and mean,,,,,,,,is actually a Softie
  • (ding ding ding HE IS A SOFTIE)
  • and although you spend the weekend trying to finish up an essay and a project proposal ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,shownu holding that small kitten in his arms keeps flashing through your memory
  • and on monday you can’t help but subconsciously look for him everywhere, even making a purposeful trip toward the math department
  • when suddenly, just as you’re about to give up and head to dorms you feel someones hand on your shoulder
  • and you nEARLY juMP out of your skin with shock but then you hear a familiar, slightly monotone voice go
  • “the kitten is ok, do you want to see him?”
  • and you turn to see shownu, dressed up in a suit, hair slicked back and a briefcase in his other hand and you’re like,,,,,,,?????????
  • and you can’t help but be like “a-are you going to work?”
  • and he’s like “my minor is business management. there was a mock interview today.”
  • and you’re like OH,,,,,,fancy,,,,,,but also why is that suit so fitted ok not the point the kitten THE KITTEN
  • and you’re like “where is he? did you put him back near the library?”
  • and shownu shakes his head and motions for you to follow him and you figure out quite quickly that you’re going over to the dorms and you’re like ??? “is the kitten still in your room”
  • and shownu, who heads for the stairs of his building nods and you’re like gdi the elevators work fine but ok
  • and when you get to his room, the door is open and you’re surprised to see that the room is really clean,,,,,,,,,like way cleaner than your dorm
  • and shownu sets down the briefcase and takes off the jacket, rolling up the sleeves of his white button down
  • and you’re like,,,trying not to stare, looking at everything else except him
  • and he pulls the little cardboard box off his desk and into his lap and picks the kitten up and you can see that the little guy is happy
  • meowing out loud and nuzzling its tiny face against shownu’s hand
  • and shownu holds it out and he’s like “here”
  • and you take the kitten, sitting down on the bed beside him and you’re like “it looks like he’s gaining weight!!! im so happy he’s healthy,,,,,”
  • and you see from the corner of your eye, a small smile tug at shownu’s lips
  • and then you see how the corners of his eyes crinkle just a bit along with the happy expression on his face
  • and wow ok everything you said before about not finding him adorable ,,,,,, weLL ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
  • but you’re startled when you hear someone come in and another boy is like “oh hyung, am i interrupting something?”
  • and shownu gets up and he’s like “jooheon, this is the other person who took care of the stray with me”
  • and you put down the kitten to introduce yourself to jooheon who looks you up and down and then shifts his eyes to shownu
  • and he’s like quiet for a moment before going “,,,,,,,,,,,,are you two a thing?”
  • and you’re like WHAT and shownu, with no change in expression is like “what do you mean?”
  • and jooheon looks to you for an answer (since his hyung is really so damn dense) and you’re like “n-n-n-no we just met on friday,,,,im just here to see the kitten,,,,,,”
  • and jooheon, who seemingly has a sparkle in his eye is like “huh, so how do you like shownu?” and you’re like ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,he’s??????/nice
  • and shownu is like why are you asking them that
  • and jooheon just shrugs, shoving his hands into his pockets and he’s like “that kitten is lucky to have two caring parents like you”
  • and you’re like PARENTS and shownu is like “kittens can’t have human parents”
  • and jooheon is like i gtg see minhyuk and kihyun right now immediately and you’re like who???? and jooheon is already gone as shownu sits back down on the bed and is like “he’s going to go gossip, ignore it”
  • and you’re like gossip???? about????/ us???????? oh my g OD??
  • but shownu is back to mindlessly playing with the kitten and tbh who cares about anything when there is a kitten involved
  • and somehow at the end of this, you find yourself with shownu’s number in your phone and you guys agree on planning someway to get this kitten back to their owners or to a good shelter
  • and you find yourself texting him,,,,,,,,,,about other things as well
  • maybe it’s because one day he asks ‘have you eaten’ and you end up asking about his mock interviews and stat homework
  • and shownu isn’t much of a talker, his texts are rather short and to the point too
  • but ,,,,,,,,,,,,, shownu is an extremely good caretaker
  • like whenever you’re over to see the kitten and work on making flyers with him
  • shownu makes sure you’re not hungry or too cold or too hot and if he plays music he keeps the volume low so as to not disturb you and he’s always telling you to sit at his desk and work on a flyer while he takes the uncomfortable floor
  • and he even starts to pick up on your habits like,,,,,you always forget your phone under your bag before you leave and he’s gotten into routine of picking it up off the desk and slipping it into your bag before you go
  • and he tells you that he bought the same brand of cat food you get for the kitten since you always bring it over
  • and then he tells you to work hard for your test coming up that you told him like a week ago
  • and shownu,,,,,before he even knows it himself jooheon is sitting with him in the dorm one night as shownu is finishing up the last flyer of his
  • and jooheon is like “you really like them right?”
  • and shownu is like “they’re a kind person”
  • and jooheon rolls his eyes and is like “yes, but you like them,,,,,,,a lot.”
  • and shownu stops coloring and he’s like “no i don’t.”
  • and jooheon nearly drops his phone on his face laughing and he’s like “hyung, you’re literally drawing cartoon kittens for this person and you even bought snacks that they like for when they come over. you like them.”
  • shownu kind of just looks down at the coloring pencil in his hand. ‘lost cat’ written in bold letters, clumsy kitten faces he’s been trying to get better at drawing scribbled across the paper
  • and he’s like,,,,,,,,,,oh
  • and you don’t want to admit it to yourself but god you even find yourself looking over at the football field as you’re walking past it to get off campus and go into the city to hang up flyers
  • and you can hear the coach yell from so far away and,,,,,,you can see him. shownu,,,,,in his uniform running across the field
  • and he looks amazing in the uniform and you’re like “Get IT TOGETHER” @ yourself
  • and you focus on putting up the flyers
  • but that night you get a text for shownu and it’s like “were you ok today?”
  • and you’re like yeah!! i put up a lot of flyers but there’s some more left over that i want to put around campus too
  • and shownu texts back that he’ll help you and that you guys should meet at 1 tomorrow
  • and you get up immediately because right. you need to wear something nice,,,,,,,or do you,,,,,,,,,,,it’s just shownu,,,,,,,,,,,,but,,,,,
  • and you get back into bed and you’re like it’s nothing. you two are just hanging out because of this kitten that’s it
  • but when you see shownu waiting for you, leaning against the wall of the library in casual ripped up jeans, white t-shirt and bedhead hair you’re like oooooohhhhh here we go again with my heart skipping a beat and whatnot
  • and you go around campus with him and people are doing doubletakes, but shownu seems used to the attention and you get the remaining flyers up when suddenly shownu is like “we should put one up there at the top of the bulletin but i can’t reach”
  • and you’re like well if you can’t reach neither can i
  • and shownu is like “get on my shoulders.”
  • and you’re like,,,,,,,,,,,,,,hold up
  • and he’s like crouching down and patting his back and you’re turning a bit red
  • and you’re like “i,,,,,,don’t think-”
  • but he’s seriously not getting back up and you’re like, taking a breath and you’re like ok. it’ll be fast,,,,,
  • but wow ok getting on his shoulders and feeling his strong arms lock around you safely like GOD dammit why is he a perfect strong person
  • and you tape up the flyer and shownu lets you down so gently
  • and you’re just so embarrassed and flustered and shownu is like “we’re all done.”
  • and you’re like,,,,,,,,,,  “th–thank you for,,,,,,,all your help” and shownu is like “we found him together, we should take care of him together”
  • and you’re like TO g,,,,ether,,,,but you’re also like yeah!!!! but in your head you’re like after we find his owner though,,,,won’t that together not be important anymore??
  • but shownu puts down his head suddenly and he’s like “jooheon told me something funny.”
  • and you’re like ??? “like a joke?” and shownu is still not looking up at you and he’s like
  • “,,,,,,,,he told me i liked you”
  • and you’re like OH,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,um do you?
  • and shownu, running his hand through his hair picks up his head and is like ,,,,,,,,,,, “would that be alright?”
  • and he looks like a little shy kitten himself, his shy smile, his usually hard to read expression soft and his voice shaking just ever so slightly even though it’s usually deep and clear
  • and you want to be like is it alright????? it’s great????? it’s the best thing in the WORLD
  • but you’re also like i need to compose myself and you’re like “of course, is it,,,,,,alright if i like you too?”
  • and shownu straightens up, nodding slowly and you’re like WELL,,,,,that’s good it’s alright for both of us that’s,,,,a+,,,,,
  • but then you feel shownu’s hand against your cheek and you’re like oh what is he- is he going to kiss-
  • but before he can even lean in he stops and is like “no no no we shouldn’t in public”
  • and you stop for a second before bursting into giggles because fkhdsd how is he so shy and proper ,,,, it’s college everyone’s practically in each others pants all the time but,,,,,,,,it’s nice
  • and when shownu and you get back to his dorm, shownu announces that he’s going to kiss you for real this time
  • and you’re like you don’t have to say it,,,,you can just do it and he’s like im sorry i just wanted to check and you’re like ksdhgjfs how are you SO CUTE
  • and you feel so safe and protected when he pulls you into his arms by your waist and nuzzles his nose against yours before softly pressing his lips to your own
  • and you’re like,,,,,,,wow,,,,,,,,,he’s so,,,,,,,,careful with how he kisses it’s like he doesn’t want to break you
  • and you literally have to be the one to take the lead and shownu when he pulls back has got wide eyes and you’re like “too much??” but he just shakes his head and leans in again
  • jooheon walks in on you two basically making out and he’s like “i KNEW IT” and you want to say something but shownu is too busy telling jooheon to get out while also trying to pull your shirt back down
  • and it’s a mess
  • but do believe the entire campus knows two seconds later that you and shownu are an Item
  • mostly because jooheon looked so giddy that kihyun was just like “oh shownu is dating now?” and jooheon was like HOW DID YOU KNOW I DIDNT EVEN SAY ANYTHING
  • and kihyun was like ur face gave it away loser
  • and you get a flurry of texts from literally everyone you know on campus demanding you tell them the story of how you met and how in the world you scored THE QUARTERBACK of the uni’s basketball team
  • and you’re like “we meet,,,,,,,because we’re both good people also yes he’s the quarterback but did you know he’s a stat major and also a pretty ok cook he’s actually a lot more than just a buff dude appreciate my MAN”
  • and you both still concentrate on hoping to find the owner of the lost kitten,,,,and it’s only after you get a call from a very VERY happy mother saying she’d been looking for her daughters kitten who managed to escape only days after they’d brought her home
  • do you and shownu succeed in your mission to save the kitten and celebrate with a cute date to the nearby diner were you sit beside him, his arm around your shoulder and you feed him fries and you guys look through the pictures you’d taken of the kitten before you gave him back to the mom
  • and shownu has a lot of games thanks to how popular the uni’s football team is and even though you’ve never been a big fan of the sport - you go whenever you can and watch shownu intently, getting worked up when he falls over or gets tackled
  • and when you see him after, you practically push through the crowds to get to him
  • and when you do, he has to literally catch you because you’re like “are you hurt???? im so worried that tackle looked so painful???”
  • and shownu just smiles, kissing your forehead and telling you he’s fine
  • but shownu does the same with you,,,,,tbh if he doesn’t see you for a week and you finally meetup just to cuddle under the blankets and study for your classes you hear him whisper against your hair
  • that you’re so important, and that not having you near him makes him feel like he can’t be completely calm
  • that you relax him, with kisses to his lips that remind him that you’re ok
  • and it’s minhyuk who remembers you and shownu’s 100th day and he gets everyone together to throw you guys a surprise party
  • and you and shownu both have no clue until you walk into the common room and the lights come up and there’s wonho in a party hat, kihyun throwing confetti in your face and hyungwon holding a cake. jooheon puts headbands with hearts on them on your head and changkyun puts on some sappy love song and everyone is chanting that you two kiss
  • and you’re both like “we forgot today was our 100th dat” and minhyuk is like LMAO BUT I DIDNT NOW KISS wonho get the camera ready

Part 2https://thatsadbreakfastclub.tumblr.com/post/158505761114/rip-to-my-youth-pt-2

It was getting to the point where I was having internal battles with myself every night. ‘Y/N he’s working on the novel and the newspaper, of course, it’s going to be harder for him to spend time with you’ versus ‘he’s moved on, he’s closer with Betty now, he and Archie are closer too, you’ve lost him, you’re irrelevant’. These were the thoughts that had been consuming my brain for the past couple of weeks. Jug was my best friend, right? Maybe I should text him? Maybe not. I started playing with my pale grey cap, my nervous tick of sorts. Jug could always tell when I was nervous because I would fiddle with the cap “Y/N” he’d say “spill it, you can’t hide anything from me, I can read you like an open book”. Thinking about this little memory was bittersweet. How can someone who’s practically by your side every day suddenly just have no real interest in talking to you? Ever since the murder of Jason Blossom, it really feels like everything in Riverdale has changed.

I glanced at my clock perched on my bedside table, 7:45 pm sigh. Maybe doing some homework will take my mind off all this bullshit, who’s idea was it to put me in advanced algebra anyway? Oh, that’s right my father, who I really wish was here right now and not away on some business trip. Tonight would have to be a lonely one. That’s when I remembered I had Jug’s math textbook, there it was sitting on my desk. I flipped it open and sure enough on the bottom left-hand corner was a small ‘property of Jughead Jones’. Perfect I could use this as an excuse to text him.

Hey Jug, I forgot I had your math textbook? Want me to come drop it over? The two-hour wait to get a reply just built up more and more anger inside of me Hey Y/N, I’m working on an article with Betty right now, could you drop it off to me in the newsroom in free period tomorrow? This was it, this was fucking it, oh I would take his textbook to him tomorrow and I would also confront him about this whole thing, that’s what I’d do straight up ask him why I was suddenly dead weight, I’ve had his guys back for so many years and now I’m just nothing, I won’t have it. Will do I sent back, cool calm and collected and then I was going to give him a piece of my mind tomorrow.

Getting ready for school was never a difficult task for me, I pretty much did the same thing everyday. My Y/H/C was tied into a ponytail with the front strands falling onto my face framing it. I put on my classic ripped boyfriend jeans and a black t-shirt, accompanied by my army jacket. To finish off my classic look I added my signature grey cap and put on my favourite dark grey lipstick. I wasn’t the girliest of girls, that was for sure, but everyone seemed to identify me by my style and in this I found comfort. After giving myself the once over in the mirror I grabbed Jug’s textbook from my desk, shoving it into my bag and I set off for school.

The day dragged on and on, I had a tonne of classes with Kevin and Ronnie today so it was nice to hang out with them for a change. This was of course until Kevin pulled the “I haven’t seen you and Jughead together in a while, what happened you two are usually joined at the hip?” line “You guys are my otp, I hope there’s no trouble in paradise” Veronica added. “Ronnie we’re not dating, why does everyone always think that and honestly, I don’t know, I guess he’s been too busy with this whole novel and newspaper thing to remember me as well” I replied giving my best interpretation of a fake smile. Veronica and Kevin gave me sympathetic looks.

As the bell rang, signaling our release I was packing my things together when Veronica grabbed my arm. “Y/N you need to tell Jug how you feel, I don’t know if you’ve even admitted it to yourself yet but it’s pretty obvious you’re in love with him, I can see how much not seeing him is hurting you and I think it’s best if you face this head on” I was so taken aback by this, I mean for years I’ve always had people ask if Jug and I were dating but no one had been this blatant with me. Was she right?, No he’s my best friend, I couldn’t be in love with him no way. I let out an awkward laugh “I don’t love Jughead, we’re just friends” It came out so defensive that Veronica raised both her eyebrows and folded her arms “the fact that you’re being so defensive about this just further proves my point” She said in a sing-song voice. “I gotta go Ronnie” I replied standing up from my seat and walking out the classroom “I only say this cause’ I care” she yelled after me.

Making my way towards the newsroom, I’d never felt so nervous in my life, like get a grip girlie it was just your friend, surely this whole not speaking to me thing was just, not even a big deal and I was hyping it all up. I was still going to have a go at him though because he was angry when Archie ditched him and now he’s okay with doing it to me? Not on my watch.

I had the math book in my hand as I was walking up to the door of the newsroom, I had my best ‘pissed off face’ going on I was ready.

I had my hand almost on the doorknob when I took a quick glance through the doors glass window. That was when my stomach fell, my jaw dropped and my heart involuntarily shattered. It was just a glimpse that’s all I could allow myself to watch, but inside that dusty old newsroom was one Jughead Jones kissing Elizabeth Cooper. The feelings hit me like a truck, and then everything went numb.

I didn’t know what to do so without giving any sign I was there I dropped the math book and ran, I ran out of the school I ran past pops and all the way home. By this time the tears were free falling, I couldn’t stop it and I didn’t care. Once I was in the safety of being inside my house with the door locked I gave in to my emotions and just slid down to the floor.

Wow, I felt so stupid and so naive, why didn’t I see this coming, it all made perfect sense now. I guess this was me also coming to terms with the fact that as usual Ronnie was right, I was painfully in love with Jug and now I was too late to ever do anything about it.

The more I sat there and thought about it the more I came to realise that this was my fault. I held Jug up to this crazy high standard and just assumed it would always be him and me at the end of the day. I had sacrificed so much to hang out with him, to keep my “image”, I avoided making too many other friends, I avoided parties, extracurricular activities you name it I wasn’t a part of it. Now it was all going to change, it had to change. Maybe this was the wake-up call I needed. I had to work on myself, be better, be stronger. Most of all this needed to happen because this meant I could quite literally not be around Jughead anymore, I think seeing or talking to him would make me cry, something the new me will NOT be doing.

I picked myself up off the floor and headed to the bathroom to wash my face. “Get a grip Y/N, ” I told myself staring into the mirror. It’s like as soon as I come to terms with the feelings I think I may have had for years, I have to immediately try to get rid of them. I think this was a coping mechanism for me, and I think the reason I’ve never let myself admit that I had feelings for him before was because I fear rejection so much so very much, and I had to do what I knew would keep him around and that was to continue to be his friend. Well, little girl it’s time to grow up.

And what’s the best way to look more mature and confident, change your style. From what I’ve witnessed from the media, what you wear can have a profound impact on how people view you. This is what I had to do first, get rid of the “old me” look. This meant bye grey cap, bye dark lipstick ( I mean what was I even trying to do with that? Look like a corpse?) (oh wow corpse jokes really funny, maybe a bit too real in light of recent circumstances.) And also a very big goodbye to my jeans and army jacket, that would have to go too.

Looking through my closet it was apparent I didn’t have much to work with, I would definitely have to go shopping this weekend, I’ll bring Ronnie and Kevin along, they know fashion and are probably more than willing to help me out. AH HUH eureka! The dress I’ve been looking for! About two months ago I bought this really nice burgundy skater dress that I was planning to wear on a summer trip away, but when that got cancelled I never really had an excuse to wear it, until now. It showed a lot of leg, which I was surprisingly pretty comfortable with. The thought of people seeing me in this tomorrow made me feel a mixture of excitement and nausea.

The next thing that would change was the hair; no more would it be hidden by a cap and just randomly pulled back behind my face. I would wear it down and give it a curl. I think that would give me a nice elegant edge. God, I really don’t think anyone’s even going to recognise me tomorrow, kinda funny really. The next thing I had to do was go on to the school website and look for an extracurricular I would be willing to do. Hopefully, this would be a good way to make new friends and keep me busy.

I went and grabbed my laptop from my desk, as I did this I heard my phone vibrate, which meant I had a message. The name that made the screen light up made my heart skip a few beats, it was from Jug Hey, I just found my math book outside the newsroom? Why did you leave it there and not come inside? SIGH, reading that was like a knife to my chest, I immediately deleted the message, this may be immature but I needed time, I can’t bring myself to talk to him and if he can do it to me I can sure as hell do it to him.

Shaking those thoughts away I was brought back to the task at hand. Logging onto the schools web page I found the list of extracurricular activities going on at Riverdale high. Chess club? Pass. Girl’s soccer? Hard pass.  Mathletes? No way in hell. Come on there has to be something here. After fifteen minutes of looking to no avail I scrolled past the extracurricular activities. Eventually I saw an ad posted by the she-devil herself Cheryl Blossom, apparently, one of the river vixens had broken her ankle and a new vixen was needed immediately, auditions were tomorrow after school. Hmm, could I do this? Maybe I could? The old me would never dream of being a cheerleader but the new me, maybe she could. You know what, fuck it. It was decided, I caught myself slightly smiling as I clicked ‘attend’ on the event. It felt like a breath of fresh air, tomorrow I would walk into school confident and new. I was going to cure my own broken heart. I just hoped a run in with Jughead wouldn’t make it all come crashing down.
