i can craft it

My advice for baby witches!

Here is a ton of stuff I wish someone told me 7 years ago.

  • You do not have to be Wiccan.
  • You do not have to worship any deity.
  • You do not have to believe everything you read on the internet.
  • Witchcraft cannot bend the laws of physics or the material world.
  • Witchcraft cannot give you the ability to fly, change your eye color, change your species, etc.
  • There are many “fluffy” websites out there full of misinformation like the above point.
  • You do not need to have a fancy journal where you write your shit down.
  • You can do that with a computer or in a cheap notebook. But if you want to go all out, go ahead!
  • Witchcraft does not do all the work for you. If you cast a spell to get an A on a test, you best study too.
  • Do not let others shame you from doing what works for you.
  • This includes cursing. Please don’t shame others if they want to curse!
  • If you want to do dream work or astral work, start keeping a dream journal now.
  • You do not have to spend an arm and a leg for spell ingredients.
  • If you’re closeted, paper magic and energy magic are your friends.
  • If you’re going to curse, ground and cleanse before AND after.
  • Understand that every spirit/entity you meet might not be your friend and you may have to get rid of it.
  • Understand that learning anything takes time, be it spirit communication or tarot.
  • Do not give up on yourself.
  • It’s okay to take a break from the craft. I do that every so often.
  • You can be christian/any religion AND a witch.
  • Witchcraft is not a religion. Wicca is.
  • You don’t need to be religious if you don’t want to.

Feel free to add anything else and my askbox is always open if you have questions!

DIADEM MASTERPOST

(from your local sky pirate)

  • Trials of the Fury - ilvl 220 is required for entry, lvl 60. This is the version of Diadem strictly for Disciples of War/Magic.
  • Trials of the Matron - ilvl 179 is required for entry, lvl 60. This is the version of Diadem for Gatherers, but a endgame PvE class is required for entry.
  • Both trials are accessed with a Mission Ceruleum Voucher, attainable from Jaquoinie, the Mission Quartermaster located at the Airship Landing, near the Astrologian’s Guild aetheryte in Ishgard.

While I haven’t done Trial of the Matron, Trials of the Fury is done as follows:

Missions Objectives > Fate Grinding for Loot > Praying for Emergency Mission to spawn.

3 Mission Objectives are given to the queued party upon spawn, marked by orange circles upon the map and are very specific fates or quest mobs that you have to kill to progress your group’s rating. Completing all of them will put you a percentage of completion and reward you with Loot when they are all done. Afterwards, you will be left alone in Diadem with your group with no clear objective. DO NOT DROP PARTY!

You’ll notice there’s a lot of time left in your duty instance and that doing your objectives takes only minutes to complete. That is because once you complete your objectives, you are left to wait for hyperelectricity weather! To pass the time, you’re to do fates for their lockbox rewards, to trade them in for new i265 gear. This is the part where you Fate Grind for Loot. (i280 weapons drop from Emergency Missions.)

Similar to Palace of the Dead, Lockboxes can be traded in at a Lockpicking Vendor for random items! 40 Damaged Lockboxes are required for 1 piece of loot, whereas 1 regular Lockbox can issue 1 piece of loot.

Now is the tricky part. “Kharn! You mentioned waiting for hyperelectricity weather? Why!?”

That’s because hyperelectricity unlocks the super secret boss fate we all saw in the trailer at the center of the map. It’s random, and the Haillenarte NPC will extend the timer on the duty by 15 Minutes and alert everyone of an EMERGENCY MISSION to complete it. Weather progresses over time, which is why I recommend Fate Grinding for your new i265/280 gear until the instance boots you itself.

House Haillenarte Pilot: Pray do proceed with caution. The energies of the Diadem have become ever more volatile, and the cause is said to lie in the drifting arrival of that Mhachi ruin…
House Haillenarte Pilot: This isle, this…missing gem, has anchored itself near the Crown Jewel. ‘Twould seem that the ruins themselves are impenetrable until a path is forced upon by a storm of hyperelectricity.
House Haillenarte Pilot: Such weather is rare, but I shall be certain to alert you via linkpearl should a window of opportunity present itself. We must not waste any chance we have at divining the isle’s secrets…not to mention claiming its treasures!

Also, if you wish to get to the lower level of Diadem (beneath the purple mist) you must look for AETHERIAL GAPS! Clicking on them will shoot you below the mist to do special fates and hunt Notorious Monsters.

Aetherial Gaps can also be found near caves, which’ll send you inside. I haven’t found them all, so I can’t tell you where they all lead, so happy hunting!

[A final note!] If you see Mirage Snails (aka Pure White Crystals) or Pure Black Crystals/Dark Crystals, they offer buffs when charged and will sometimes charge in the middle of FATES happening upon or around them. Touching them will take all their aether and siphon it into a buff for the person that touched them. Only a finite amount of people can grab it and must wait for it to recharge at random.

If you guys have any additional info, feel free to reblog and tack it on!

Some Advice for Getting Started:

*Start with things that interest you!*

I know i get terribly bored very quickly (gemini curse lmao) so i find that if i dive into stuff i’m interested in learning about, that it will tend to hold my attention longer and help me get back into the swing of things! So in my example one of my first things i researched when i was starting out was about Crystals and their properties/uses in magic! From there i was able to use that as a sort of base jumping off point for my magical practice! And if you find something you were learning about doesn’t seem like it fits you/your style/ your practice then drop it and move on to the next thing!

*Ask Questions!*

No Questions Are Stupid Questions  No Questions Are Stupid Questions  No Questions Are Stupid Questions!!!! Questions mean you care enough to try and learn more about something! I’m pretty much always here and will try my best to answer as best as i am able And if I can’t i will do my best to help direct you to someone more knowledgeable!

*TAKE YOUR TIME!*

This one is important because most of the time i feel like i see baby/beginner witches try really REALLY hard to “reach the same level” as other witches as quickly as possible when in reality that just hurts THEIR path in the long run. Your path is your own, take it at your own pace. Enjoy the little bumps along the way and find the “Roses of your Path” (the things that make you want to stop and appreciate them: the satisfaction of calling your first Storm, the chill of the night air when you set out your first Full Moon Water, the spark when you find that one crystal.) Enjoy it. Enjoy your path, Enjoy your Craft.

*Use the Things you Already Own!*

Another thing i see beginners getting hung up on (myself included, i was/am extremely guilty of this lol) is wanting to go out and buy a ton of supplies. try looking around your house for things that can be re purposed. Old Spaghetti Sauce Jars can be cleaned and used as spell jars, deity altars/shrines, or ingredient storage! Take pictures from old magazines and make a collage Altar on paper! Use a composition notebook as your Book Of Shadows! Your old broken glasses case can be used as a case for your portable altar! Dig around and see if there are extra candles you haven’t used in a while! Wash out and save those eggshells from your cooking to use as spell ingredients! It takes some creative thinking but you can reclaim pretty much anything for your craft!

*Look for Bargains!*
For one thing prices can be outrageous for actual craft materials: like Crystals and Gems? Truly truly truly outrageous. So keep your eyes peeled for bargains and deals! Some of the best places to look for things on the cheap would be Dollar Stores, Flea Markets, Thrift Shops, Garage/Estate Sales! Most of the time in those places you can try haggling to get things at a cheaper price (or get more for less.) It really just depends on the place but you can find the most interesting assortments of things! Keep your eyes peeled in your general day to day life as well see if there are sales at your local grocery store for seed packets, seasonal items/holiday items (look for the sales afterwords to really save haha) The internet is a great place to look, i know Ebay has sellers who sell raw crystals/ crystal chunks by the pound. There’s also places to buy spices in bulk too

*Don’t Compare Your Path to Others!*
Your Path is Your Path, Their Path is Their Path.
Being online and part of the witchy community in tumblr means that there are a lot of ideas being shared from people’s paths and their views on how they think magic should be practiced. What works for them might not work for you and vice versa. Only YOU can decide what is best for you and your path. and on that note:

*Figure Out What YOU Want Out of Your Path!*
When you get some time, sit down and write out all the things you want to get from your path and think critically about how you want magic to work in your daily life. Do you want it to be Super Formal or more casual? perhaps a mix of the two?  Test the waters! Try things once and if you don’t like it then you know and can move on to the things that work better for your lifestyle/craft/path!
Some examples from my list that i can think of right now would be:
-Better knowledge of Crystals/ Crystal remedies and their healing properties
-Daily research -aka tumblr-
-Appreciating Nature more (Whenever i go on walks with my dog i try to pick up some litter if/when i see it)
-Daily Deity appreciation  -aka deity aesthetic reblogs to @theemeraldgod & Pintrest-

🌘- Low energy witch tips - 🌒

As someone who is often low on energy, I know the difficulties that can come with trying to maintain your craft. Especially if, like me, you’re hard on yourself about such things. So here are some low energy ideas you can use in your craft day to day:

🌕 - Pay a little more attention to the seasonings you put on your food or what you drink, you might be doing a bit of accidental magic already! Feeling like you need a little protection? Maybe use a bit of basil and a pinch of salt on your next meal if appropriate. There are tons of simple herbs and blended teas, smoothies ect. out there that can really help boost your day if you need them.

🌕 - Talk to your Deities or spirits casually. If they don’t mind it, that is, do be careful not to offend. Though it can’t be said for all deities or spirits, there are many that will appreciate being regarded even just with casual talk. Discuss things with them, talk about how your day went, things you are concerned over, whatever you please. They might even help with issues if they decide to do so or if they are capable and even if they don’t, most of them are at least pleased to be regarded, especially if you don’t have the energy to do much more than that on a daily basis.

🌕 - Sigils. Sigil everything. Though they cannot solve all problems, I have found that sigils are an effective way to combat a lot of the smaller issues in my life. They don’t require too much energy and there are plenty out there if you look for them, so you don’t even have to design your own.

🌕 - Time spent researching is not time wasted. If you’re too tired to actually do any craft but want to do something involving it, perhaps try sitting down and doing some research. Read books, look on various websites, research things you’d never looked into before and you never know, you just might find something new that calls to you.

🌕 - Incense/fragrance magic. If you’re able to burn incense or scented candles then take advantage of it, find correspondences for the scents you have and light any that might help you in areas of your life you feel need to improve. If you can’t use those then perhaps you can find scented things for a bath/shower and relax with the scents those provide.

🌕 - Commune using music. You’d be surprised how many deities and spirits enjoy music. Relax with some you feel will be appropriate, even if it’s not at all traditional and you just might find yourself surprised about what they can enjoy.

🌕 - If you have to go out, look out for items that might help bring your closer to your craft. Going to the supermarket? Perhaps take a brief look in the herb section. If you have a patron deity that enjoys a certain food item then perhaps see if you can get some. It doesn’t even have to cost money if you’re lucky, sometimes you might simply find something on your travels (a feather, a certain stone that looks perfect, a pinecone) and it may work in some way towards your craft.

Quick shout to all the writers out there that are too afraid to pursue that itch in their soul to write the thing. My friend, write the thing. We are our own worst critics. We writers are our own cruelest foes.

But someone, somewhere, will love what you make. They will read your words and their toes will curl and they’ll fall in love with your story because where you only see flaws and imperfections, they see the sun rising on an entirely new world that you have crafted for them. A whole new place for them to go to; to touch, to see, to feel.

Don’t be so hard on yourself, love, because someone out there will read what you write and be grateful that you shared it.

CONFESSION:
I just had an Origins session for the first time in well over a year, and after completing three playthroughs of Inquisition, it was like a comedy of errors. Where’s my horse? What do you mean I can’t jump? No crafting stations? Inquisition is definitely the higher quality game in terms of graphics and mechanics… but all the same, it was nice to be “home” again with my old friends. I missed these guys.

Took the boys out for some photos, its the first warm afternoon in weeks and its nice to feel a little sunshine. Their three older brothers have gone off to new homes but these two are still looking! Egg, and his brother Dawson are for sale at $50 each, with more are hatching out all the time now as we amble on into spring. If you’re interested, feel free to contact me! There’s nothing I love more then sending my boys off home. …Too many crows in one room does tend to inspire a lot of mess.

That man was once a king,
Until he lost everything.

god bless the internet

Okay 20 odd years ago i was oddly terrified of home economics classes because:

a. can’t cook

b. can’t sew/embroider

c. can’t crochet

d. can’t household worth a damn

The teachers back in grade school tended to assume we were taught crochet and sewing basics by our respective mamas and grandmamas and kinda zipped us along in class.  I didn’t learn how to properly operate an old school non-electric sewing machine until high school, because FINALLY there was one student to a sewing machine, so I could figure it out and realize “WELL SHIT SON I CAN MAKE MYSELF NICE THINGS AND I LIKE IT.”

(I made myself a quilted bag.  It lasted all four years of high school.)

Also, there was the whole uncomfortable subtext of “YOU WILL BE A FAILBOAT AS A WOMAN AND A WIFE AND MOTHER IF YOU CANNOT HOUSEHOLD” which gets my gander up because FUCK THAT NOISE, WHY AREN’T YOU TEACHING THIS SHIT TO BOYS TOO? I WAS NOT BORN TO BE THEIR FUCKING MAIDS.

(Obviously, I more or less got through this because actually, man or no man, knowing how to household ARE USEFUL SURVIVAL SKILLS THAT ANY PERSON SHOULD KNOW - SO MAKE YOUR OWN DAMN SANDWICH AND SEW YOUR OWN DAMN BUTTONS.)

But now it’s not about being a “proper lady” - it’s simply knowing how to make things with your own hands, using string and needle and hook and yarn and creating pretty things that you can admire, use or both.  It’s knowing that you created an actual work of art with needle and thread - and embroidery/cross-stitching is an art form, even if you’re following counted cross stitch patterns.  THAT SHIT IS HARD AND TAKES PATIENCE AND CARE AND CRAFT, OKAY?

It’s finally picking up that crochet hook and yarn and relearning an old skill and learning new tricks along the way and making something pretty and useful knowing that it’s not about grades, it’s the satisfaction of having made something pretty and useful.

And God bless the internet because I can quietly lurk on youtube and watch tutorial videos and figure stuff out.  God bless the Internet because I no longer feel like my clumsy, idiot nine year old self who couldn’t seem to follow along Teacher’s apparently simple and easy instructions, who kept being told that my stitches were “too tight” and who was made to feel like I’d be a failure at life if I couldn’t pass this “simple” class.

Now when I feel the need to “unplug” from Real Life, I can just grab my craft bag of threads, needles, yarn and hooks and choose whether I’ll make myself a doily or continue my current cross stitch project.
