i burn better in the dark

Listen, I get it, life is hard and you’re dealing with some shit, but could you not tag my posts as “neurotypicals be like” when I talk about trying to remain positive in a world gone mad with apathy and suffering.

When I say I believe in taking light into dark places, I’m not talking soft pastel aesthetics and salt rock lamps. I’m talking burning this shit to the ground, I’m talking about rising up swinging against those who would put you down.

My hope does not negate my rage or despair. And it sure as shit does not negate my mental and physical illnesses either.

I am hopeful, despite and perhaps even possibly out of spite, because I refuse to surrender my belief that we can do better. That we will do better. When you give that up, they’ve already won. And I’ll die kicking and screaming all the way before I let that happen. Neurodivergency and all.

And if you’re the edgelord off there in the corner talking about how hope is dead and the human species doesn’t deserve to survive? What the fuck are you doing to try and help fix that? This shit is your responsibility too. Fucking rise to it.

  • ❝ what do I want? I want to kiss you a thousand times before undressing you & kissing every bit of your flesh a thousand more times. ❞

Aries: You are alluring, enchanting and full of wolfs screams. You’re not a bad person for letting words escape your lips, you’re not bad if you feel regret after exploding. Accept yourself ‘cause let’s face it, you’re pretty damn great.

Taurus: You have hands that heal wounds, your touch made them feel so much better about their scars. Why can’t you just know that you aren’t an open wound anymore, you’re not bleeding. You have eyes like romanticized suicide, hush it’s alright; just not tonight.

Gemini: Your hair is flowing like the silk on your mattress made of broken dreams. Award winning lips spilling misleading sips of information like honey slips from the tips of the toes of bees. You don’t know, but it’s better to move on than to let go. It won’t show, but you grow; inside.

Cancer: How sweet it is to be loved by you, how cruel it is to be hated by you. You have a venomous edge but your compassion makes you sting yourself. Take care of yourself for once, it’s medicine to the ones who care too much, I think it’s called love.

Leo: You always cloud your own mind, a different track of thoughts every time. An aposiopesis that’s not to be controlled, they’re gone. Wanderer of the past, basking in dark halls filled with harps and sirens luring people in. You’re bewitching your own mind, stop. They can’t hurt you anymore. You’re safe.

Virgo: You are all the seasons and all the colors, you overwhelm me with scent, taste and sight. Too many feelings for such a soul, nimiety. Breathe, you’re okay. You’ll be okay love. The seasons all stop changing eventually, and the rain eventually stops cascading down the windows of your soul. Close your eyes and hold on tight, it’s a wild ride to come where you belong.

Libra: You have comeliness, you paint the town in black and white with bright red eyes and vibrant lights. I can’t believe your art is less beautiful than you, it’s more beautiful than me. It’s as beautiful as you, pulchritude.

Scorpio: You write an encomium about someone cantankerous. You don’t have to put up with the shit of someone who gives you nothing but tears. Fly like an eagle, you’re strong & free. And so much more than what you think you are and should be. You’re a dark soul, a warrior with a knife and Scarlett blood running down open wounds. Just because people can’t see your pain doesn’t mean you’re not hurt. Outlast the ignorance, you know its going to get better.

Sagittarius: You lost yourself in the alleyway you divagated in. You waylaid the demons in your heart, you’re sparkling scintillas of hope. “HOPE” is knitted on your blue denim jacket. Your thoughts are blue clouds of smoke filled with ‘h o p e’ Don’t become hopeless, unless it’s hopelessly in love. Stay a believer, don’t let them take you.

Capricorn: Don’t be beguiled by the tactlessness of heartless people, you are made in heaven off feather wings and pearly eyes. People would do kinesics on you all day because you move and work so angelic. You’re a kind soul not to be befouled.

Aquarius: You are abstruse. Don’t feel abashed because of your own self complexity, you are a puzzle made of thousands of colors and thoughts left unsaid. You’re waggish, laughing at the insults that hurt you ‘cause humor is the best coping mechanism. Nobody will think you’re hurt even though their nescience throws you off, don’t worry. You’re smarter than they know.

Pisces: Unflegged, innocent, dainty, I know how they portray you. But they know your words & not your thoughts. The darkness lurking at late night and the stars shining in your bright eyes, don’t let the stars stop shining for people who like rain better than sunshine. Shine. Shine to keep yourself warm and don’t burn yourself down to keep others warm. They don’t deserve your heat.

—  Late night writing.

about the netflix castlevania series...

I know, I’ve been busy.  I’ve been raving over this series for the past week but I couldn’t get to a proper keyboard so I can a Proper Rave™ complete with gifs and sparklies.

Fine, fine.  I’ll be a proper grown up.  I’ll stop sulking and wait patiently.

Let’s get on with the List of Things That I Really Love About Netflix’s Castlevania animated series:

a.  Dracula - First off, Dracula is not a precious misunderstood Woobie Destroyer of Worlds.  He’s evil.  He’s got a dangerous labyrinth of a castle sitting smack dab in the middle of a forest of skeletons that are impaled on very long sharp stakes, his victims from years ago.  Dracula is bored, mean and absolutely disgusted with humanity.  Apparently, the only reason he doesn’t seem to be concocting some sort of Evil Plan to Cover the World in Eternal Night™ in the first few minutes we see him is because he can’t be arsed to anymore.

But he is a lot more complex than your average moustache-twirling baddie and in less than five minutes we get the idea that there’s still some ounce of humanity left in everyone’s favorite Evil King Vampire.  He basically gets this OH NO SHE’S ADORABLE AND I LIKE HER SEND HELP look on his face once he gets properly acquainted with one Dr. Lisa Fahrenheights.

b.  Lisa Fahrenheights - People who’ve played Castlevania:  Symphony of the Night will know who she is and in the game, she’s pretty much portrayed as some sort of sanctified figure in a Certain Person’s memories.  In this series, Lisa Fahrenheights is smart, sassy and willing to tell off the most dangerous vampire in the world for his bad manners.  And while our acquaintance with her is painfully short, it gets pretty clear why Dracula would fall arse over cape for her.

And surprisingly, she genuinely seems to love him back and is apparently willing to believe he can be better than his Evil self without forgetting that he IS a terrifying Evil Dark Lord With Fangs™.  We only get like 10 minutes to have her around and I’m actually willing to buy into the Dracula/Lisa love story far more than I did with Twilight or the Star Wars Anakin/Padme romance.

She’s genuinely a good person without being insufferably saintly and I hope we get to see more of her in flashbacks as this series progresses because LISA FAHRENHEIGHTS DESERVED BETTER GDI.

Seriously, in the Great List of Incredibly Stupid and Boneheaded Ideas™, accusing Dr. Lisa Fahrenheights Tepes (somehow, I get the feeling she and Vlad had a long and lively discussion about being his Princess/Lady/Countess and she stuck to her guns about being a Doctor) of witchcraft and then burning her alive at the stake is probably in the Top Three.  Right beside the one that says, “Do not kill the Cinnabon Roll Son of the Dark Lord of the Sith while Darth Papa is actually there to see everything.”

Unfortunately, since this is the Middle Ages and we have all that bullshit about wise women being falsely accused and the Church being corrupt, so this clusterfuckery happens and of course, Vlad eventually comes home to find the house he built for his beloved destroyed and that he’s too late to save her.  He can’t even get the chance to possibly turn her into a vampire.

Of course he’s pissed off.

I eat at the same restaurant every day for the past 2 years

I’ve heard people on their phones speaking about their passions and fears

I see a couple at table 3 that arrive every Saturday afternoon

Every time they leave I feel like they left too soon

I envy the way he puts his hand on her thigh

And how they look into each other’s eyes

I wish I had their life

I bet I’d make the perfect wife

But instead I’m in this table for one

And keep writing because I’ll never be done

It’s 1:04

They’re out the door

The next week comes by and its noon and then…

The perfect couple rolls up again!

At table 3 he pulls out her seat

And she elegantly places the napkin on her lap so neat

The server asks what they want to eat

They ask for a dessert and treat

She’s the perfect woman that I wish to be

But I’m invisible and no one ever notices me

It’s 12:55

They’re up to leave and get close to me as they pass by

It’s Saturday again and my hatred is growing stronger

It’s 12:01 and I don’t know if I can wait any longer

Than the golden couple comes in and sits at their usual table

And they look too perfect like their relationship is a fable

They begin to speak but I never heard what they said

I can feel the rush of my veins and my face gets red

It’s 1:09

They’re out after they drink their glass of wine

The next week approaches and I’m in the table I always sit

There’s a storm and the electricity goes out so there’s many candles lit

It’s 12:04

The couple of the year is just outside the door

I see them arrive with all their coats wet

They enter the restaurant but the weather made them upset

She gets up to hang her soaked coat and I bump into her purposely

But when she turned around I realized she looked like me

It’s 12:28

And they leave not finished with their plate

It’s next week and it’s 12:15

They aren’t anywhere to be seen

It’s 12:44

They haven’t stepped in the door….

It’s 1:02

I don’t know what to do!

They are not here

Where is the couple of the year?!!!

It’s 1:13

They still aren’t anywhere to be seen

I ask the server where the couple is from table 3

“What couple?” He asks me

I shout, “The ones that come every Saturday morning!!!!”

And he insists that there is no couple with a warning

I see blood on my hands and my shirt

But I do not feel hurt

Whose blood could this be?

But I have something more important on my mind to worry

So I grabbed the phone and yelled at the server to dial them

But he pushed me out the door… and I realized I was in an asylum

The guard holds me down, a needle goes into my skin as I shout

And everything goes dark and I blackout…

I wake up, how long has it been?

I try and get up but the room starts to spin

The doctor comes in

He says I’m finally making progress with a grin

I ask him what I’m doing in this place

And the smile gets off his face

It’s 11:17

I wish I could take back all the things I’ve seen…

I remember I was working on being a writer

But my dreams turned to ashes as if burned with a lighter

I worked hard and so did she

But she was always better than me…

It’s 11:26

I tell the doctor there’s nothing left to fix

I remember what I’ve done

I remember how my hatred won

It’s 11:53

I killed my twin sister in the name of jealousy

She had everything that I wanted

And I had their blood in my hands so she haunted

She came into my head and made me remember like a loon

What had happened to her and her husband at table 3 that Saturday at noon

She showed me the restaurant where I committed my crime

And she made me pay with the price of counting every minute of time

She plays the different days of my feeling of hate

And she’ll make me remember her fate

She replays the scenes like a movie in my head

And makes me go through them again and again……

It’s noon!

The couple of the year walks in

They laugh at table 3 with a grin

He caresses her hair and kisses her cheek

And their love makes me feel disgustingly weak

They are everything I want to be

But I’m invisible because no one ever notices me

I feel my hatred for them growing inside

But it’s 1:04 and they’re already outside

The next week comes and today is the day

The perfect couple will have their last things to say

It’s 12:04

I hear the tune in the restaurant but I am out by the door

I wait for the perfect couple as they step inside while I wait out with my knife

I go inside and I take their life

She screams I’m her twin and to please have a heart

But I can never be done with what I start

She whispers in my head that the memory is my punishment and there’s nowhere I can hide

So she keeps replaying these memories in my mind…

It’s noon……

I know you feel damaged and broken…
And I know just how tempting it is to withdraw from the world and surround yourself in a cocoon of darkness. It seems to make perfect sense… to hate everyone who’s ever hurt you and never love anyone again… But darling, love is like sunlight – without it you cannot grow.
Sure, you can survive on hate alone but that’s all it is… surviving. It’s not really living… because hate doesn’t nourish you, and though that fire in your chest feels like a warmth that will keep burning forever – it won’t. Eventually it will die out, and when it does you’ll be alone in the cold and the dark… and you deserve so much better than that.
I know you’ve been hurt… and I know just how terrifying it is to risk being hurt again… but please, let the sun shine through. Learn to love again and rejoin the world…
It can’t afford to lose someone as beautiful as you.

Sometimes you wondered if life was worth living.

In a world where humans were the bottom of the food chain, a world where Alphas reigned and Betas weren’t far behind, you found yourself wishing and praying each day for things to get better.

But there was always light in the darkness, and your candle burned brighter than most.

Your little sister Seyeon was 8 years old. She was small, and beautiful, and she had the most innocent, hopeful view of the world. And although you knew you’d have to teach her the ways of the world someday, you desperately wanted to cling on to the purity thay she still possessed. >

For her, there was no food chain. No inequality. No hurt, no struggle for survival. She understood that times were tough, but she always looked on the bright side; we have food, we have water. We’re not hurt.

She wasn’t old enough to remember what happened just years ago, and she definitely wasn’t old enough to understand how the world really worked.

Werewolves had always existed in the shadows of the humans - for years and years, centuries and centuries upon more centuries, werewolves lived just as humans did, fearing that their identities would be revealed and they’d ultimately be killed.

But soon, enough was enough, and the werewolves revolted with such strength that the humans were easily overpowered. Long before you were born, in the times of your great grandparents, the werewolves overthrew the governments of the world in a war that lasted for 6 years - and then they ruled the world, keeping the population of humans below them and submissive.

From then on, everything was chaos.

The werewolves formed packs and gangs, and reigned control over every town and city there was. Electricity was sparse in rural, human dominated areas after the war - the fighting had destroyed almost everything, including generators, and when they were rebuilt and reconnected, the werewolves didn’t care if you wanted electricity or not. You were humans, after all.

Electricity and fancy, modern cars were only owned by the extremely rich in the cities miles and miles away from here - and you weren’t rich, or living in the city -, so the main source of transportation was either walking or an absolutely ancient pickup truck that broke down every few miles or so.

And family? Well, Seyeon was your only real family. You had no grandparents, no cousins or aunts or uncles. Your dad died shortly before Seyeon was born, and your mother followed shortly after as a result of the medicine that wasn’t easily accessible for humans.

After your parents died you were left to care for a newborn baby at 10 years old - well, with the help of Nancy, the old lady that lived near you. She wasn’t biological family, but she was the closest thing you had to a mother. She taught you how to cook, clean, sew, fight, what plants were edible in the forest, the best spots for clean water, medicines… She was your teacher, and you were her student - but there was one thing she couldn’t teach you, and that was to control your temper.

The ruckus they caused in the middle of the day was unbelievable. They, referring to the young werewolves whose pack ran the area in which you lived in - a tiny, quaint town on the edge of the forest. These boys in particular had formed their own little ‘gang’, and spent their days terrorising the humans that inhabited the run-down town when they were bored.

As if your lives weren’t horrible as it was, you had a group of testosterone fueled hoodlums causing trouble when it was only high noon, in the middle of summer. The sun was hot and cast a heavy, draining weight upon your shoulders, despite the fact that you were inside the small shack you called home.

Their shouts and hollers radiate through the humid air, stirring you from the heat induced sleep that had settled over your body, an eye opening gingerly. What the..?

Realisation floods through you a few seconds later as your mind boots up, and you spot them, all hooting and shoving as they come towards your house from the small wooden porch that you had been sleeping on.

If you were lucky, they’d pass right by you into the woods that were to the right of your house to get back to their pack house. If you weren’t lucky, well…

You watch with eagle-like eyes as they approach, consciously keeping Seyeon’s figure in the corner of your eyes. She had been playing with the rag doll you had made her years ago for her birthday on the steps in front of you, but now she’s holding it close and sitting rigidly, eyes trained below her. She’s trying to ignore them, but you can tell she’s scared.

They soon become aware of your presence, as if they hadn’t sensed you earlier - first, one at the back lets out a long, sarcastic whistle, tapping his friend in front of him and gesturing to you and Seyeon with a movement of his head - and then, they all gradually stop in their tracks, coming closer to the porch. Your hand twitches instinctively, your silver hunting knife just inches away.

“What have we here?” The one who coos sarcastically is familiar. You always see him leading the others around, telling them what to do, who to hit, what to destroy. He’s taller and broader than the rest, too, and by now you’ve guessed that he’s the alphas son. He stops directly in front of Seyeon, and your fingers have fully wrapped around the leather bound handle of your knife.

“That’s a nice doll you have there,” he comments. Seyeon doesn’t say anything, her eyes cast to the dusty ground. You can see from here how her fingers clench and unclench around the thinning fabric of the doll’s stomach nervously.

“You know,” he begins, a sly grin growing on his face as he turns to face his friends who stand and wait a few metres behind him. Your unease grows, especially as he lazily looks over at you - as if he thinks you don’t matter, as if you’re worthless and weak and can’t stop anything from happening. “I think my sister would like it.”

Your jaw clenches, and you restrain every muscle in your body from making you jump out of your chair and slash his face. You continue watching.

The man chuckles, as if hearing your little sister’s heart rate accelerate was funny to him, and Seyeon lets out a distressed yelp as her doll is yanked out of her dainty hands - and that’s it, the last straw has been pulled.

You’re up from your seat before anyone can register it and down the creaky wooden porch steps like a shot, silver knife twisting expertly in your raising hand - and in the blink of an eye, you bring your hand down with force, cutting into the man’s cheek with ease.

A howl of pain and a chorus of enraged shouts are the only things you can hear; suddenly everybody is crowding around you, grabbing at you, pulling and shoving at you—

Somebody is yelling, someone’s grabbed your hair, another hand is grasping your arm roughly, and you’re grunting as you stab at any expanse of flesh you can see — and for a second, all hope seems to be lost. The silver didn’t seem to be doing anything.

Your temper really did get the best of you, you think for a moment — but through the chaos you can hear Seyeon calling your name desperately, tears caught in her throat as she watches helplessly, and suddenly you can feel your knife, still hard and cool in your hand and you find the strength within you to continue to slash and swing and draw blood.

After biting somebody’s arm and elbowing another’s stomach, you shove through the crowd minutes later, stumbling slightly in front of your sister like a shield before turning to them, baring your knife threateningly as they hiss and growl, making threatening, jerky movements towards you — their eyes are trained on the silver knife warily, wounds burning and sizzling like a painful reminder.

The leader lets out a low growl one last time, before he backs away, slowly yet surely, eyes flashing a bright, angry yellow when his travel to meet your own. The rest of his group trail after him, growling and shooting you sharp, dangerous glares as they leave, disappearing behind the thick tree line and leaving you in the eery silence of the moment.

“_____!” Seyeon’s voice is thick with tears, and the anger bubbling up in your stomach completely calms as she winds her small arms around your waist, burying her face into her stomach. “I-I was so scared — I was gunna help b-but you always tell me to stay out of things-”

“It’s okay, Seyeonnie,” you murmur. Your breathing is heavy, and the regret once you realise the consequences of your actions will most likely be severe shoots throughout your body like limb-weakening electricity.

However, you can never let Seyeon know that, so you force yourself to plaster a soft smile on your face, to bend down and pluck Seyeon’s doll from the ground. A hand hangs limply from a thread at its side.

“Ah,” you grumble, holding the doll gently. Seyeon looks up at you with big, watery eyes, and you sigh, petting her head gently. “It’s okay, it’s okay. I’ll fix her up in no time, Seyeonnie. Promise.”

You give her another truthful smile, leading her back into the safety of your small shack.

Over the next few days, you were glad to say that thwre were no more run-ins with the gang of werewolves — but honestly, you weren’t sure if that was a good thing or a bad thing.

You’ve been trying to get on with your life, doing all the normal tasks you’d usually do; fetching water in the nearby creek, venturing into the forest to hunt for rabbits or dear, or to gather berries and roots — but you couldn’t deny that you were on edge. Every rustling of grass, every crunch of dry leaves behind you made you inch for your hunting knife.

Nancy scolded you. A lot.

“Ye can’t keep gettin’ angry at them!” She had given out, directly condradicting her anger when she sets a plate of stew in front of you, before she bustles away to the table in the living room to give Seyeon some food. “Yer in trouble now, ye are.”

You had sighed, pushing the food around on the plate. You didn’t feel very hungry. “I know, Nancy. But they were gonna take her doll, an-”

“The doll is less important than yer life!” Nancy hissed, lowering her voice and shooting a glance to where Seyeon was sitting, kicking her feet back and forth and wolfing down her food. “Things are gonna get messy now, girl, they will.”

“I know,” you had murmured, jaw clenching. You set down the silver spoon in your hand, thinking deeply about what you were about to propose. Your head instinctively drifts to Seyeon, who seems to feel your eyes on her and smiles toothily at you. A small, tired smile, and then an exhalation falls passed your lips.

“Nancy,” you begin quietly, pulling her to the furthest corner of the kitchen (just in case). You feel a weight press onto your shoulders, making you want to collapse onto the ground and just sleep for the next hundred years. “I just- If - if something happens—”

Nancy smiles grimly - and you must be imagining it, but her eyes look glassier than usual. “I’ll look after her, child.”

Tears well up in your eyes, the familar burning feeling translating from behind your eyelids to the hard lump in your throat. But you clear your throat, blinking a few thousand times to make the tears disappear and squaring your shoulders again after a few deep, yet quiet, breaths. You had been strong all your life. You weren’t going to break now.

A sigh falls passed your lips. Your fingers were absentmindedly manoeuvring your needle and thread expertly, as if it was as simple as breathing - which, by now, it was. God knows how many times you’ve had to sew up Seyeon’s clothes when she got too rough playing with the other children (the grass stains never came out, but you figured they added charm).

The little girl in question is snoring away quietly across the room, laying comfortably on the mat that you had made years ago from fur and stuffed with dried grass. Just looking at her makes a fond smile push its way to the surface of your face, imagining her expression when she wakes up and finds her doll safe and sound, back to normal and just like it was before the incident.

But then your mind begins to wander, and your mood drops like wax from a burning candle.

You were sure that someone, somewhere, didn’t hate you. Maybe - maybe a child? A baby that hadn’t been influenced by their parents, that hadn’t been influenced to hate you purely because you were human?

The innocent, naive part of you that had been pushed to the very corner of your heart still thinks that maybe things could change. That maybe, one day, the discrimination and racism will come to an end and everyone can live equal, happy lives. Maybe you and Seyeon could move to the city with Nancy and buy one of those fancy cars you had heard about - maybe you’d meet someone and fall in love, just like in the stories your mother used to tell you when you were young…

Your eyes droop tiredly, your mouth open in a small circle and the needle, thread and doll slipping from your grasp as you fall into dreamland.

You wake with a jolt in the early hours of the morning, your surroundings covered in a blanket of darkness. Your arms and legs are stiff from sleeping on the wooden chair and covered with goosebumps from the chilly coldness of your home, and with a confused furrow of your brows, you realise that the window behind you was open.

You groan tiredly, almost tripping over the doll that you had abandoned last night on the ground as you stumble to shut the window. No wonder you had woken up, the window was so far open that it almost touched the outside of your home.

Seyeon must’ve opened it, you think, stretching your arms above your head as you clamber to the warm mat where your sister was sleeping, prepared to drop down and pass out immediately. She always got very warm easily, so she probably woke up and-

Your thoughts come to an abrupt stop once you realise that you’re looking at an empty bed.

The fur covers are thrown to the end of the mat, strewn haphazardly and laying messily across the floor. There’s no sign of her - you call frantically, adrenaline pumping through your veins, your limbs feeling almost weak with worry and anger (at the werewolves who so obviously took her or yourself, you don’t know) and your chest constricted by the invisible snake that was anxiety.

Hands clutching at your head, you collapse onto the chair you had fallen asleep on, pure panic and disbelief fumbling with your thoughts and refusing to let you think straight.

They came through you window - that much was obvious. They lived in the woods that were literally less than a metre from your home, and that window was laughably weak in comparison to the strength werewolves possessed. But despite that fact that you had just reminded yourself of, staying here wasn’t an option. You had to get to them before they hurt Seyeon, no matter the outcome.

And so, you pack. An old leather bag that used to be your father’s is filled with the scarce medical supplies that you have - bandages, Nancy’s famous herbal salve, an antiseptic that was extremely rare around these parts and was one of your mother’s prized possessions. You make sure to slip in a pouch of water and some dried meat, just in case.

(Your hand hesitantly hovers over Seyeons doll that isn’t quite fixed yet, before you place it carefully on top of the rest of the supplies in your bag.)

Your hunting knife along with the various other silver knives you owned were slid into the leather holster on your pants, and a quiver full of your favorite silver-tipped arrows and your bow is slung onto your back.

You know how to track, and you know how to hunt. The problem is speed; they have at least half an hour on you, and that’s a lot for werewolves. So you waste no time; you don’t even have the time to write Nancy a note, because after you’re completely packed you stride out of your front door and sprint into the forest behind your small shack.

You don’t know how long you’ve been travelling; the sky has transitioned to a dusky pink, the sun rising over the mountains that were far east, visible from the tree you had climbed. You scoped your surroundings, taking in the almost eery quietness that came with the morning in the forest.

You had crossed over the creek you normally fetched water from, passed the bushes that beared the berries you picked, and ventured into the unknown that lay behind the patch of plants that Nancy used to make her herbal salve. The trees had grown thicker and thicker, all traces of intelligent life gradually dissipating into thin air.

But still, you continued on. It was cold and your jacket was thing and it’s main purpose was to hold your hunting knife so that it was easily accessible - but you had fire and fury in equal measure, and that fueled you to keep striding on, even when it seemed like you were getting nowhere.

After stopping to have a quick mouthful of water and a piece of dried meat, you had climbed the tree to get a complete grasp of your surroundings. If needed, there were many escape routes and obstacles - you had a gut feeling that you were drawing closer to Seyeon and the tyrants that had kidnapped her, whether it was from the footprints that were pressed into the earth or the strange atmosphere that surrounded the area.

You hop down from the last branch, feet hitting the ground with a solid thump - and that’s when you notice him, because your sudden movement had startled him into jumping back from your belongings.

“What do you think you’re doing?” You growl, eyes trailing over to scope his behaviour. Your hunting knife is already out, the silver threateningly held out towards the boy - man - standing as still as stone in front of you. In your rush of adrenaline fueled anger, you don’t even think to ponder on if he’s human or a werewolf, and you can only imagine the trouble that you’d be in if he turned out to be a werewolf—

The man draws back from your belongings, lifting his hands up in surrender at the sight of the glimmering silver being pointed at him. A werewolf, then. You hope he doesn’t sense the shift in your bravery, the reluctance to fight him setting in. Nevertheless, you inch towards your bags more and more wih every passing minute — until, finally, he’s pressed himself against a tree more than enough metres away from you, and you’ve reached your things. And in that one, measly second that you take your eyes off him, he strikes, and your knife is flung across the small clearing.

A strangled grunt is ripped out of your throat when his full weight collides with you, squashing your arm against the rough tree bark that you both crash into — you scramble away from him to increase the distance, using the seconds that you gained to fumble for your knife and steady it in your hands. You’re nervous, but not for the reason most would expect — with every second that passed, Seyeon was getting further away.

Yells and growls fill the air with every blow that’s exchanged — your knife is cutting searing scratches into his chest, neck and face, his hand is yanking roughly on your hair, and it’s only when you allow the hilt of your knife to bury itself in his shoulder that you realise you’ve made a terrible, terrible mistake.

A pained howl, crystal clear and strong reverberates through the trees, echoing past the oak you had scaled and stretching through and above the forest until it reached what you could only guess were his pack mates.

You yank the knife out of his shoulder, leaving him heaving heavily and supporting his weight against a tree — not only were his pack mates approaching, but he would heal in a matter of hours and he would definitely be angrier than he was previously.

You can already hear the pounding of paws against the forest floor, your bag clutched in your hand as you sprint through the thick foliage, leaping over fallen branches and logs and manoeuvring around dips and bends in the earth. Your chest is pumping, throat burning with the effort of keeping your breathing up to scale, and you almost (almost) feel tears pricking at your eyes because if you don’t get out of this, what happens to Seyeon?

You see the river that you had taken note of earlier — you could hopefully lose them there, you’re closer to breaking through the cover of the trees, almost there—!

At the last second, just before you’re about to burst past the shade of the trees, a figure steps right in front of you, effectively blocking your path and sending panic and fright straight to your stomach — before you can stop yourself, you’re sent tumbling into the person, knocking you both to the ground in a distorted heap.

And then you’re up again, hand wrapped around your hunting knife so tightly that you fear it may cut into your own skin — but that doesn’t matter right now, because the man that had blocked your path is towering over you now, not even seeming bothered by the silver you wield in your hand.

There’s nowhere to run. You’ve pressed yourself against a tree to get as far away as you could from the man in front of you, and relay your escape routes. The river is too far away, you’d never make it before your head was ripped off — but that doesn’t seem so bad, honestly, when the rest of the pack begin to assemble in a semicircle around you, all beared teeth and clenched jaws, evaluating the amount of trouble in front of them.

“Kill her,” one grumbles. He has raven locks, and looks so unbothered by your existence that you’re almost offended — but you can tell that there’s this - this fury in his eyes that makes your limbs become weak with nerves as you fully recognize the danger you’re in.

The man that you had stabbed in the shoulder steps beside the midnight-headed werewolf, hand pressed into the wound that was closing very, very slowly — so was the effect of silver on werewolves —, wincing slightly as he moves his hand to comfortingly place a hand on his arm. “We have to wait for Jungkook, Yoongi. Calm down.”

Like a switch has been flicked, ‘Yoongi’s’ eyes soften — just enough for you to notice — and he only tosses you an extremely disgusted look before he ushers the man t po behind the pack to check on his injuries. Of course. Yoongi’s the mate of the man that you’d stabbed — which is why he looks like he’s about to shift and tear your head from your shoulders (well, more than the others want to).

You only give that thought a second of your time, though, because pressure is rising in your chest and your breath is getting quicker as you get more desperate to get away from here. Thinking of what those savages could be doing to Seyeon made you feel sick to your stomach, and your eyes unconsciously flicker to the river.

“Don’t even think about it,” another one says, tall and tan and, strangely, pink-haired. Maybe if he wasn’t planning to kill you you could appreciate his handsomeness, but that wasn’t the case. He’s watching you carefully — the growing tremble of your lip, how you reposition the knife in your hand, the erratic beating of your heart.

“She must’ve stabbed him with silver,” Yoongi calls gruffly from behind the group, cursing minutes later. “It’s deep, too — fuck, forget Jungkook—”

And Yoongi pushes his way passed his pack before they can fully register his actions - or be bothered to stop them. You grit your teeth as he storms forward towards you, canines pressing into his bottom lip, and suddenly you’re just extremely fed up.

You had a sister to save — and these boys think that they can just waste your extremely precious time? No, not today.

So you square your shoulders like you had done millions of times before, clenched your jaw, and pulled another knife from your jacket roughly. Yoongi stops in his tracks when he sees what exactly you’re armed with, and you have to hand it to him: he’s not completely stupid. Two silver knives and an angry woman? Not the best combination, in all honesty.

“Take another step and I give you an even deeper wound,” you threaten lowly, scoping Yoongi’s reaction. He stills, eyes completely focused on yours, and it’s only when you threateningly lunge forward slightly that he shrinks back.

The other members are tense now, as still and quiet as the dense forest that surrounds you; the pink-haired one and a broad-shouldered blonde share a look, but before they can act on whatever they had been communicating about, you interrupt them.

“Don’t even think about it,” you repeat the words that had been relayed to you just minutes ago, inhaling deeply. “I’ve beaten up a larger pack with one knife - don’t think I’m afraid to do the same to you with two.”

“You’re making a mistake,” the pink-haired one says slowly, hands raised in surrender. “Our Alpha will be here in seconds and if he sees you threatening us like this, he won’t be happy—”

“Don’t try and reason with her, Namjoon,” a silver-haired werewolf spits, glaring at you. “She’s human. Just wait until Jungkook arrives — he’ll tear her throat out—”

“Let him try,” you bite back, “See if I don’t slit his throat first—”

“I’d ask you what you’re doing on our land, but I think it’s obvious already,” a voice sighs from behind you. As quick as a shot, you whip around, flinging your knife expertly at the source of the sound—

The brunette that stands metres away from you narrowly misses the knife, and it instead buries itself into the bark of the tree that he once stood in front of. He lets out a low whistle, inspecting the knife, but soon turns back to the matter at hand.

“A group from a pack a few miles from here passed by just an hours ago — with a human girl…” He muses, eyes trained on the ground with a smirk painted on his face, as if hearing your heartbeat accelerate at the thought of Seyeon was amusing. He trails slowly towards you and his pack, an aura of power rolling off him in waves, and it’s obvious that he’s the Alpha the rest have been relying on to save them — Jungkook, did they call him?

“You wouldn’t happen to know anything about that, would you?”

You don’t know why you haven’t thrown your knife into his jugular, like you promised you would — it feels like something is making you hesitate, making your hands feel heavy and your heart even heavier. Whether it’s the hint of information on Seyeon that makes you stop or something else, you don’t know…

He stands now just a few centimetres in front of you, and finally lifts his head to meet your eyes.

Seconds pass, and you’ve almost become insane with the amount of suspense that’s thickened the air, but he doesn’t seem to be progressing. He just… stares, mouth opened in mid speech and pupils dilated — it’s only half a minute later that he seems to break out of his spell, body relaxing from its previous tense state and mouth shutting.

“You want us to take care of her?” Somebody says from behind you, and your hand clenches around the handle of your other knife. In the sheer weirdness of the moment, you had almost forgotten about the matter at hand—

“Don’t lay a hand on her,” Jungkook orders firmly, barely allowing enough time for the sentence to finish. “We’re not doing anything to her.”

Did - did you hear that right?

The others must think the same, because you hear another one of them laugh in disbelief. “She’s a human! She stabbed Taehyung and threatened us — and you, too! We can’t do nothing—!”

None of you will bring harm to my mate!” His voice booms, echoing throughout the clearing, and you feel your stomach drop to its lowest pits — the atmosphere thickens, and your breath is sucked from your lungs. You can barely register your grip loosening on your knife, and suddenly your eyes are focusing and unfocusing, dizziness pulling at rhe edges of your mind, and you feel the world rushing passed you, and then—

Everything goes black.

When you wake, you almost immediately panic.

Where are you? Since when did you have an actual bed? What happened to the wooden ceiling — the wooden everything? And where was Seyeon—?

Oh God. Oh God, she’s gone. You couldn’t find her — you had fainted… Memories trickle back erratically, not unlike water from the broken water tap back home; you remember the pack that you had stumbled across, you remember being cornered, needing to escape — you remember the Alpha. Jungkook.

You - you had to go. You had to leave, you had to get Seyeon, you had to save her before something happened to her—

“Calm down, love. Calm down…” Your heart rate spikes as a voice appears from seemingly nowhere, but a glance to your left reveals the figure that had crossed your mind just moments ago.

He sits there - Jungkook - dark brown hair flopping over his forehead and onto his tanned skin, over his doe-like eyes. You feel a strange mixture of hatred and affection in your chest, which really makes no sense because you’ve only met him. Immediately, you begin to shake your head, refusing to do what he was telling you because how could you be calm at a time like this?

“No, no, no,” your voice begins quiet, weak, unused for what you can only guess was a few hours, but as the desperation and hysterics set in, you find your voice growing bigger and bigger, trembling with worry as you begin to sit yourself up, “I have to go get her — I have to find her, I have to, I have to—!

“It’s alright, it’s okay,” you hear him over your cries, trying to soothe you. The next thing you know, his hand is on your arm and he’s trying to push you gently back into bed.

Get your hands away from me!” Your voice is shrill and not at all happy, and with a hurt look on his face, Jungkook yanks his hand away immediately. You don’t know why his expression affects you so much, but it does; as if realising what you did, you begin to calm slightly.

“I - I need to find her,” you choke out, a feeling of complete defeat hovering over your body. It was all over; you had been out for a good few hours, and by now, those werewolves would've—

“She’s already been found,” Jungkook whispers carefully, quietly, waiting for your reaction. It takes a few minutes for you to completely register what he says, your mind clouding over with confusion. Your thoughts completely stop in their tracks, dwindling off until they disintegrate into nothingness.

“W-what?” You echo, sitting up. “Well, where is she? Is she okay? Is she hurt? Has she eaten? What did they do to her—?”

“She’s fine,” he murmurs. “She’s in the kitchen right now, actually, eating. They didn’t do anything to her — they were gonna sneak her off and sell her as a slave for some higher up in the city… We got there just in time.”

It feels as of the weight of the world has risen off of your shoulders. You can think clearly now; your behaviour just minutes ago brings heat to your face, and you feel shame well up in your stomach. You had never acted like that before — you were strong, calm and responsible, but that just goes to show how important Seyeon was to you.

But Seyeon was alright, she wasn’t hurt, and you could go home now — or could you? If you remembered correctly, Jungkook had said that you were his mate, and if you remembered even further back than that, according to Nancy, werewolves mated for life.

“Thank you,” you bite your lip sheepishly, a stark contrast to not only your usual personality but to the emotional breakdown that had occured minutes ago. “Really, I’m forever in your debt…”

“No, you’re not,” Jungkook smiles gently, brushing a hand through the hair that flopped over his eyes. “Mates look out for each other.”

At the mention of the topic of mates, you can feel the atmosphere shift to a more awkward, serious one. “I know you want to go home,” Jungkook exhales, “And I’ll let you go if you want to. But please, understand. I - literally - will never find anyone like you — it may be a bit early to call it love, but…”

“I understand,” you smile uneasily. It was such a radical concept to take in. Humans didn’t have mates, but you tried to understand to the best of your ability. “I'm… I’m willing to try with you. I mean, if you’re not too bothered at the concept of having a human for a mate.”

“Never,” he grins — and just when the quietness begins to settle in, just as Jungkook’s loving stare makes your stomach become a little too fluttery, the door bursts open, and a small body flings itself onto the bed in a matter of seconds.

Seyeon’s sobbing before you can fully register that she’s in your arms, and the sight already has you tearing up. Despite the fact that you’re fully aware she’s not hurt, you still take the time to look over each and every part of her, smoothing down stray hairs and kissing her forehead and rocking her back and forth, and Jungkook only smiles gently, leaving the room to give you time alone.

3 years later.

The forest is still. It seems like the birds have stopped tweeting and the wind has stopped rustling the leaves under the pressure of the moment. Your bow is sturdy and firm in your hand, breath bated and eye narrowed and focused on your prey. You wait in silence for the perfect moment to release your grip on the string, to let the arrow fly free until it hit its target…

You’ve trained yourself so that no expression shows on your face, but it’s completely contradicted by the shaking of your hand that, as a result, sends your arrow flying at least a few inches away from the deer you were hoping to catch, startling it and sending it fleeing.

“Jeon Jungkook,” you breathe heavily, turning on your heel. The grinning werewolf doesn’t flinch as you storm up to him, casually leaning against a tree. “You scared my prey, asshole!”

“Nuh uh,” Jungkook tsks, grabbing your wrist as you throw a purposely weak punch directed at his jaw. Easily, and without any struggled, he’s switched your places so that he’s caged you against the tree. “No cursing. I’m not having my pups curse fresh out of the womb.”

“Maybe if you didn’t ruin my hunt, I wouldn’t have to curse,” you grumble, rolling your eyes as he nuzzles his nose into your jaw.

“Come on,” he quips playfully, pressing a kiss against your lips, once, twice, three times before he takes the bow from your hands, “You’re not allowed to hunt, anyway. It’s not safe for you or the pups.”

“Nothing is safe anymore,” you remark smartly as he begins to trail off, looking back at you to see if you were following. You let out a frustrated sigh, pushing yourself off the tree and beginning to follow. “I can’t hunt, clean, fight, sew, or do anything that includes any sharo object—”

“I wasn’t the one who put those rules in place!” Jungkook defends, wrapping an arm around your shoulder when you catch up. “Seyeon was the one who told me to not let you do those things.”

“Seyeon is eleven,” you remind him.

“Seyeon is your sister,” Jungkook replies, “and because of that, and because of the fact that she knows you better than anyone, I value her opinion over almost anybody elses when it comes to your safety.”

“Even mine?” You ask incredulously, stopping in your tracks.

“Baby,” Jungkook glances over his shoulder, “You can barely sit down properly with toppling over. Hunting isn’t safe — you should start again after you give birth.”

You huff, grabbing your bow back from him. “Whatever.”

“You know I’m right.”

“You’re never right, Jungkook.”

“Maybe not normally,” he shrugs, “But I’m right when it comes to you, love.”

capricorn: vulnerability wasn’t a mistake. they just weren’t the right person to build with. understand that the right partner will come along and they will be everything you have ever wanted. you are worth the effort, and they are worth the wait.

aquarius: let yourself dissect it. make it smaller than it is. make them smaller than they are. break it apart and then feel it. take the pain as you can, after having filtered it with your mind. it will make it manageable and you will soon realize how incompatible you two really were.

pisces: the dream is over, and for that, i’m sorry. but they weren’t your fairytale lover, they were just a human that hurt you. don’t chase after them, you have to understand they didn’t leave a glass slipper behind for a reason. they won’t come back, and if they do, swim away.

The Final Goodbye

It’s finally finished! I originally wrote a short little blurb that was inspired by this post, but some of y’all wanted more pain and asked for a continuation, so here’s the full fic. Just a heads up, this is the first fic I’ve ever written so yeah. Enjoy *cue the evil laughter*

Thanks to @clockworkofbooks for beta reading and coming up with the title.

     Aelin was surrounded by bodies.

The battlefield was pure chaos. They’d been fighting since dawn, all the forces of Maeve, Erawan, and her finally clashing in what was the bloodiest battle she’d ever witnessed. Their lines had collapsed, and it was now a melee, every man or woman or witch for themselves. She was right in the middle of it, and everyone fought on around her, unaware that Adarlan’s assassin and the Queen of Terrasen was right in their midst.

Rowan had been separated from her almost as soon as the battle had begun, and she’d caught glimpses of her Court throughout the day. Every time she did, some corner of her killing-numb brain had registered that they were still alive, and been grateful.

The sun was shone high above them, beginning its descent as the day wore on. Her body was aching and she moved like someone possessed, brain on automatic. Every blow she landed was aimed to kill. She was a whirlwind of flames and death and destruction.

Truly, the Valg prince that had chosen to go after her didn’t have a chance.

She spotted him first, the ebony collar stark against the silver of his armor and his host’s pale, beautiful face.

Blood sprayed as she dispatched her current opponent, but she paid it no heed. Hefting the dagger in her hand, she threw it right at him, the silver of the steel flashing. He caught it right before it hit him right between his eyes.

The Valg’s slow grin at the sight of her was enough to send shivers down Aelin’s spine.

“It’s the fire-breathing queen herself,” he hissed. “You die here and now.”

Aelin smirked. “As if you’d be enough to kill me. I took on three of your brothers and burned them all to a crisp. You really think you’d fare better?”

     “I suppose we’ll find out!”

Their clash sent shockwaves of flame and darkness throughout that battlefield. She thought she heard someone calling her name, but all she could think of was the battle before her. Her weapons were coated in her flames, and step by step she drove the Prince back.

He swept his sword in a great arc, an attempt to disembowel her. The fool didn’t realize that he left himself open to her.

She stepped into his guard, and with a dagger of pure flame beheaded him.

His body stayed upright for a moment, then fell to the ground with a crash.

She burned it to a crisp for good measure.

Aelin’s breath was coming out in harsh pants. Black blood coated her, and despite her massive reserves her flames were running out. She allowed herself a moments reprieve to survey the battlefield. The screams of the dying and the clang of metal on metal and the roar of wyverns were deafening.

She didn’t know how long they could last.

Aelin looked around, searching for her next opponent to fight. And then she saw him.

And her world began to crumble to ash around her.

Across the field, he dispatched his opponents with the same cruel efficiency that she’d been taught. As he gutted a soldier wearing Terrasen’s colors -one of the Bane, some part of brain dimly recognized- he saw her, and turned to face her.

The din of the battlefield faded to the background as a strange ringing took over her ears. Time slowed down.

Sam Cortland was grinning at her, a black collar around his neck.

      “Hello, Celaena.”

She could hear nothing but the pounding of her own heart. Images flashed through her mind. A dark, damp dungeon, a mutilated body, the smell of a rotting corpse.

Athril’s ring pulsed on her finger.

“Oh, wait,” Sam said, cocking his head to the side in a predatory way that was so decidedly not him. “You go by Aelin now. Who would have known that you were the lost princess of Terrasen. Then again, I suppose Arobynn did. That was why he favored you, wasn’t it?

It couldn’t be him. She’d seen his body years ago, laid next to it, been to his grave. He couldn’t be here.

She didn’t think she was breathing.

A piercing shriek was heard above the noise of the battlefield. Their gazes snapped upwards, just in time to see a bird plummet down and shift in a brilliant flash of light in front of them.

“Get away from her,” Rowan snarled, covered in crimson and brandishing a bloody sword. Somewhere along the way he’d lost his hatchet, and most of the sheaths on his weapons belt was empty.

“If it isn’t the King of Terrasen,” Sam sneered. “Nice to see that you’ve moved on, Aelin. Was that all it took for you to forget me? Some Fae Prince making eyes at you?”

His words hit her like a punch to the gut.

This wasn’t Sam. Sam wouldn’t be saying these cruel things to her.

The collar at his neck gleamed. Somehow the Valg inside of him had accessed his memories and he was using them to hurt her. It was just another one of Erawan’s tricks.

She refused to be manipulated by him.

“Is that the best you can do?” she smirked, forcing that easy arrogance back into her voice, the one that had been as easy as breathing. She took a step forward until she was standing right next to Rowan. Her mate’s warmth was a comfort. “Wearing the body of a dead lover that I’ve moved on about? Really, you and your master will have to try better.”

Valg-Sam smirked. “How cold, Aelin. We thought for sure this would be enough to bring you to your knees. You’re even more heartless than we anticipated. Tell me, do your subjects know what kind of person you are? Does your Court?”

Rowan stepped forward with a snarl as a bolt went through her chest.

“Enough talking,” he snarled. “We’re in the middle of a battle. Are we going to fight or not?”

Sam’s smirk developed a wolfish gleam. “Be careful what you wish for, King.” Then he struck.

Rowan shoved Aelin back, parrying Sam’s blow with his sword.

“No!” she yelled. “I’ll be your opponent!”

     They both froze.

Sam’s grin deepened. “If that’s what you want.”

Rowan stepped up to her side. “Aelin, you don’t have to do this.”

She looked up at him, his green eyes shining with fury, love, concern.

     “Yes, I do,” she whispered.

Her mate, her heart, opened his mouth to say something, probably to argue, but he closed it after a moment. “I’m here,” he said instead.

“I know,” she said, the corner of her mouth tilting up. She turned to Sam. “Let’s do this the old fashioned way, shall we?” she said, motioning with her sword.

     Sam grinned. “As you wish.”

Taking a breath, she took a step forward. And like a snake, struck.

Sam parried the blade with that same easy arrogance that’d he’d once possessed.

“You’ll have to do better than that, Aelin,” he sneered.

“I’m just getting started,” she snarled back, and went right for his throat.

It was like being back in the Guild and sparring with him, except this time he had the strength of a demon prince from another realm to help him. Back then she’d always beaten him easily, but now it was taking all of her skill and concentration to not die.

She felt Rowan behind them, watching them like a hawk. His magic pulsed in the air, ready to provide support should she need it, but he maintained his distance as she and Sam circled each other.

He moved first, sweeping his sword in a blow aimed straight at her head. She ducked and danced back out of reach as he lunged for her. She spun to meet his sword.

They were a blur of armor and steel.

All of her tricks, he countered, just as she did the same to him.

The sound of metal up metal was deafening as they clashed and sprang apart and struck at each other all over again.

Then he lunged, leaving the tiniest opening for her to take advantage of.

Stepping into his guard, Aelin disarmed him. He froze. A blow to his head with the hilt of her sword was enough to make him collapse to the ground.

“You bitch,” he wheezed when he’d come back to his senses.

Aelin could barely get the words out. “Is that really the only insult you people can come up with?”

“Well? What are you waiting for?” Sam struggled to get to his knees, but he pushed himself into an upright position. “Finish it.”

She opened her mouth, but she didn’t get a chance to speak.

The only warning she had was another pulse of Athril’s ring on her finger. Darkness exploded from Sam, screams erupting everywhere around them.

Before she or Rowan could make a move, the darkness disappeared as quickly as it came.

In front of her, Sam was on all fours, chest heaving with the force of his breathing.

He looked up at her, and it wasn’t the Valg inside him that was staring at her with desperation.

“Celaena,” he groaned. “You have to kill me.”

     Aelin froze.

Something in his face shifted, but he was back in a second. “Please, I can’t hold him back much longer.”

She finally forced her voice to work. “Sam, I can’t -”

“Please!” he screamed, voice breaking on the word.

She took in the sight of Sam struggling to stay on his knees before her, the Valg Prince inside twisting his features into something unrecognizable as it took over once again.

Aelin raised her flame-coated sword and, tears streaming down her face, plunged it through the heart of her first love.

     And then the screaming began.

The flames vanished as they were drawn into Sam’s body, and Aelin stepped back. Rowan reached for her, joining their hands. As soon as they touched, Aelin felt his magic pouring into her, bolstering her diminished reserves.

Sam’s screaming grew more intense as Rowan’s magic increased the power of her flames.

Tears streamed down her face. She knew that this was how he’d screamed when he’d been taken apart piece by piece by Rourke Farran. And so Aelin didn’t look away, even as she felt the wound being torn wide open once more.

Sam’s veins, his skin, was glowing from the light of her flames. His eyes shone golden. And then it all stopped.

“Sam!” She shrieked, diving for him as the collar around his neck cracked and fell off, and he collapsed to the ground. She gathered him into her arms.

     His eyes fluttered open.

     “Celaena?”he whispered weakly.

Celaena. The Valg Prince was gone, and Sam was back.

“I’m sorry,” she sobbed. “Gods, I’m so sorry.”

“Don’t be,” Sam groaned. “It wasn’t your fault. You had no way of knowing what would happen.”

“How…how is this possible?” she whispered, taking in his face. Though his brown eyes were filled with pain, they were still his brown eyes, the ones that she’d grown up with, the ones that she’d come to love.

“I don’t know. All I remember…is waking up in a dungeon and then getting that stone collar put around my neck.”

     Aelin swore softly.

“There are so many things that I want to tell you,” she whispered. “Arobynn…he was the reason you…” She couldn’t bring herself to say the word. “Lysandra was the one who killed him.”

Sam blinked. “He’s dead? And at Lysandra’s hands?”

She nodded. “It’s been months. The Guild is Tern and Mullin’s now.”

“Those bastards can have it,” he coughed, no small amount of cold satisfaction on his face.

“Sam…I’m sorry,”she repeated. “This…everything, it was all my fault. Arobynn wasn’t the only one who was responsible for your death. It was my fault too, for daring to defy him.”

“Celaena, it was my decision too. I knew…on some level that Arobynn….wouldn’t have let us live in peace, and yet…whatever time we had…I’m grateful for it.”

“I never got to tell you,” she whispered, “that I loved you. Some part of me always did, and always will.”

His eyes were shining with tears. His looked over her shoulder, gaze falling on Rowan.

     “Does he make you happy?”

Aelin glanced back at her mate where he was guarding them, making sure that no one would interfere.

“Yes,” she said, unable to keep the smile small off her face even as a pang of guilt went through her.

Sam smiled, and her heart shattered a bit more.

He sighed in what sounded like relief. “I’m glad…that you found someone who makes you happy, even if it’s not me. You…deserve it.”

A violent cough wracked his body. Blood coated his lips, and he groaned in pain. “You should leave me,”he said. “I’m not…worth staying with any longer.” She heard his unspoken words.

I’m not worth staying with because I won’t last much longer.

“No,” she moaned. “Please, you have to hang on. You can’t leave me again. We can heal you. Rowan -”

Sam stopped her with a hand on her cheek. “You know I can’t stay. I don’t belong here, not anymore.”

“I don’t want you to go,”she whispered, almost like a child.

“I know.” He coughed again, more violently this time. He took a shuddering breath. “There’s something you should know.

     “What is it?”

“Your parents are proud of you.”

     Silence washed over her mind.

     ”What?”she whispered. “You…”

“They were all there with me. When we realized that Erawan was trying to bring me back, they wanted me to pass on a message.”He took a breath. “They’re proud of the person, the queen…that you’ve become, and they wish more than anything they could tell you that in person. Marion…wants to thank you for finding Elide. She wants you to tell her that she’s proud of her. Orlon says there’s no one more worthy of being the next Queen of Terrasen. And Nehemiah…”

     Aelin sucked in her breath.

“Nehemiah loves you. She’s sorry for sacrificing herself, and she hopes you can forgive her. More than anything, she’s proud to be your friend, and she’s happy that you’ve found good people to surround yourself with. She’s grateful that you protected Eyllwe as if it were your own kingdom. And she’s glad to see that you lived up to the name she gave you.”

     Aelin was sobbing now.

“And I…despite the circumstances, I’m happy for the chance to see you again

Sam gasped, coughing again. His mouth was completely crimson. His breathing accelerated.

“Celaena, I’m scared,” he whispered. He was losing consciousness, fast. “What if I don’t go back there?”

“Shhh.”She held him a little tighter. “It’ll be okay.”

“Will…“ his eyes fluttered as he struggled to keep them open, “will you stay with me?”

“To whatever end,” she whispered back, voice strong despite the tears streaming down her face.

“The battle raged on around them, but Aelin held Sam as his breathing steadily grew more and more faint. He let out one more exhale, and then his chest stilled.

She gently laid him down on the grass, closing his eyes, and slowly rose to her feet.

“Fireheart…” Rowan took a step towards her.

The flame inside of her guttered, then exploded.

Every one of Erawan’s minions within a 100-meter radius was burned to ash.

On her forehead shone the mark of Brannon as she looked at her mate, the killing calm overtaking the turmoil of her mind.

“It’s time for Erawan to die.”

“Reclaim your throne” slogan is just big cruel joke.

A lot of people (including me) expected an epic journey about Prince Noctis, who is gonna fight evil Empire and take back his Kingdom. Common fantasy plot that involves restoring the rightful heir to the throne (”Lord of The Rings”, “Lion King”, “King Arthur“, thosands novels and films). Well, we all know how it actually ended.

Final Fantasy XV is Japanese game.

So, let me tell a short story about another Japanese game - Dark Souls.

Dark Souls is video game series about repeating cycles of Fire and Dark. The Age of Fire is completely dependent on the First Flame. When the Flame starts fading, people start becoming Undead, because humanity in Dark Souls cursed with Starscourge Curse of the Undead. Eventually Undead lose their mind and go Hollow (mindless zombies… as I remember correctly “daemon” on Japanese is pretty similar to “corpses”).

“The fast fading Flame must be linked to preserve this world. A re-enactment of the first linking of the fire. So it is, I became a Lord of Cinder.” © Ludleth of Courland

Lord of Cinder in Dark Souls 3 is a title given to those who once were mighty enough to Link the Flame. If Undead tried to link the Fire, but weren’t powerful enough and failed, it just burned them to ash, which called Unkindled.

Anyway, even successful Lords should… take their Throne and sacrifice themselves for Fire.

tl;dr  “Reclaim your throne” was never supposed to be “Marry Lunafreya, defeat Nifflheim, restore Insomnia, live long and happy”. It was about “Go and kill yourself, Noctis” all along.

The Music Tapes, “The Orbiting Human Circus” Lyrics

Hello again, friends! We’re figuring out whether there can be a booklet with credits and lyrics for people who buy the digital EP. (Those things will definitely be included with a potential future physical release!) In the meantime, here are the lyrics to the songs on the EP:

City of Lights
(Julian Koster)

Oh, here you are
and you’re all you wished to be
you’re alive and you’re
not alone
not alone in this.

So close your eyes
hear the whole world
call your name
and you answer
please don’t go
please don’t go away.

All I know is here
and now
and right away.
Call me here
I will appear like
light of day.

All of the words
of the songs
we all will sing
mean the same thing
and it’s not goodbye
and it’s not “go away”.

Mom, bye.
Dad, bye.

Call my name,
behold the strength
of my embrace.
All I sing to
hear my prayer
don’t go away.

All of your life
you’ve been holding on
to just one thing
and it calls you
please don’t go
please don’t go away.

(Dino Olivieri, Louis Eugene Bernard Poterat, and Giuseppe Nino Rastelli; arranged by Thomas Hughes and Julian Koster)

Where Evening’s Dream Goes
(Julian Koster)

Darkness, darkness, always comes,
Around surrounding everyone…

Simple angels falling from the sky,
To show the way back home where evening’s dream goes…

Darkness, darkness…

Darkness, darkness, always comes,
The lamps that lit, the night bells rung.

Simple angels falling from the sky,
To show the way back home where evening’s dream goes…

I’ve Got My Love
(Irving Berlin; arranged by Julian Koster)

The snow is snowin’
The wind is blowin’
But I can weather the storm
What do I care how much it may storm
I’ve got my love to keep me warm

I can’t remember
A better December
Just watch those icicles form
What do I care if icicles form
I’ve got my love to keep me warm

Off with my overcoat
Off with my gloves
I need no overcoat
I’m burning with love
My heart’s on fire
The flame grows higher
So I will weather the storm
What do I care how much it may storm
I’ve got my love to keep me warm

My heart’s on fire
The flame grows higher
So I will weather the storm
What do I care how much it may storm
I’ve got my love to keep me warm

I do care about you // Shawn Mendes

can you write one based off of “Sorry Not Sorry” by Demi Lovato and it’s like you and Shawn broke up and you ended up going to the club and it’s hella angst pls and thank you :))))

Authors note: Its not exactly like the song because I got kind of side tracked and I’m sorry if you hate it and if its nothing like what you requested

Authors note 2.0: GUESS WHO’S BACK AFTER LIKE 2 WEEKS OF DISAPPEARING?? its me in case you haven’t come to the conclusion.

“You needed this.” Kylie tells me, holding the door open to the club for me.

“I do?” I ask hesitantly, my mood still in the dumps after my breakup with Shawn around 3 weeks ago.

“Yes,” She nods enthusiastically. “You’ve been moping around our flat for weeks and damn, Y/n, honey, Shawn is a jerk.” She holds my gaze, doing the best she could to cheer me up.

“You don’t need him. You are a strong, independent woman who doesn’t need a man to define who she is. Shawn is going to regret the day he left you. Right now however, you are going to hold your chin up high and walk in this club and find some cute guy and down a couple shots.” I giggle, nodding at her words. She loops her arm with mine and we walk straight to the bar, ordering drinks to start as off.

“Thats it!” Kylie cheers as I finish my first drink. I don’t know whether it was because I hadn’t drunk alcohol in quite a while or because I hadn’t been out the house since the breakup, but I downed the next two without thinking. Usually I was a reserved drinker yet tonight I had the urge to cover my sadness with alcohol.

“Lets dance,” I call to Kylie, dragging her over to the dance floor. The lights were flashing, the music so loud that I just let all my thoughts flow out my head. My mind was completely blank.

“Thanks for taking me out tonight, you were right I did need this.” I shout to her as we both dance to the current song.

“No problem Y/n, Did I tell you your dress looks amazing? Seriously whoever made you wear that has brilliant taste.”

I laugh, taking another sip of my drink.

“You were the one who made me wear it.” I roll my eyes jokingly and she raises her eyebrows at me.

“And I’m glad I did- I mean, look at all the attention you’re getting.” Her eyes slide past to behind where I’m standing and I look over my shoulder to see two guys standing against the wall, eyes on us.

“What do I do?” I ask, panic seeping through my words. “I haven’t approached a guy since Shawn and that was two years ago.” I whisper sharply.

“Relax, Honey, just be you. Go fill your drink.” Kylie nudges me to the bar and I stumble over, placing my glass on the counter where the bartender grabs it and begins filling it again. He hands it back to me and I turn back to the dance floor when one of the guys catch my eye, waving me over.

I walk over hesitantly, a blue light illuminating their faces. They’re all sharp jaw lines and high cheekbones. Both wearing all black, I found them alluring.

“What’s happening?” The man on the left asks me, sending me a wink and even in the dark lighting my cheeks burn.

“Not much, I only just got here.” I reply, my hands slightly shaking from nerves.

“Lucky enough you met us and we,” he nods to his friend. “We are going to make your night so much better.” The right guy tells me, taking a step forward and soon I find myself edging back to the dance floor.

I catch Kylie’s eye from across the room and she laughs at my confused expression. I wasn’t expecting two guys to go after me at the same time.

A hand on my chin catches my attention and my gaze flicks from Kylie’s face to dark eyes of one the guys.

He tilts my chin up and just as it looks like he’s about to kiss me, I’m wrenched out of his grip.

“Hey Sweetie, come on the cab is here.” Shawn nearly growls, sending me a fake smile. Still in shock, I can’t seem to process who’s standing in front of me.

“Bro she said she just got here.” One of the boys tries to step forward but Shawn sends them a menacing glare and he backs off. “Another?” He proposes to the other and they both walk away to the other side of the club.

“What are you doing?” I ask, voice shrill. Realization has finally sunk in.

“What am I doing? What are you doing? Two guys Y/n?” Shawn shouts, drawing eyes our way and I feel blood flood my cheeks.

“Can you not say it that loudly? It wasn’t like I was going to do anything.” I look away from his eyes.

“Say what loudly? That you were going to hook up with two men?”

“I don’t know what I was going to do.” I glare at the wall, ignoring his gaze.

“Exactly, you don’t know. You didn’t think about how much danger you could have been in.”

“Can you just stop Shawn!” I scream, not that it made that much of a difference in a club. “You’re not my boyfriend anymore, I don’t care what you think about my decisions and you can’t go telling me what I can and can’t do.”

He’s silent. His piercing eyes locked on my face, my rage burning beneath my skin so that my whole body felt hot.

“They could have raped you.” He says quieter.

“And you would care? So let me get this straight, You can care about me now that we’re broken up but if we were together you wouldn’t give a shit what happened to me?” I hiss at him, gulping the rest of my drink and pressing the cup against Shawn’s chest as I walk past him. He grabs it just as I let go but I’ve already walked away, intent on leaving the now overbearing club.

“Y/n wait.” He says, the door slamming back open and his voice is loud in the quiet street.

“Don’t talk to me Shawn, you never cared before so why do you care now?” the words felt sharp to say and I felt tears prick my eyes.

An overwhelming sense of nausea hits me and I’m heading to the side of the street in seconds.

“Oh baby,” Shawn murmurs, stroking back my hair into a makeshift ponytail as I threw up into the gutter.

“Don’t touch me,” I groan as I wipe my mouth, pushing away from his grip.

‘Y/n, sweetie,” He says softly but I glare at him.

“I don’t need your help Shawn go home.” As soon as I finish my sentence I’m throwing up and his hands are back holding my hair out of my face.

“Baby let me take you back home.” Shawn pleads, sweeping my hair up into a loose pony tail with a hair tie that was around his wrist- conveniently one of mine that I must have left at his house.

“Fine.” I say, trailing behind him as we walk to his car. He holds the door open for me and I hop in silently. He gets in the drivers seat, turning the engine on.

“Seat belt.” He tells me and I roll my eyes, doing the buckle up.

“Don’t tell me what to do.” I say weakly.

“Can you stop fighting me for one second, please?” Shawn asks, pulling out onto the street.

“No, I cant.” I say firmly, my eyes starring out the window at the passing buildings.

“I really don’t want our conversati-”

“Can you shut up Shawn?” Venom coats my words, Shawn falling silent immediately.

It only lasts a minute until he’s talking again.

“Would you really have gone home with those guys?” He sounds vulnerable, scared almost- of my answer. Of course I don’t take any notice.

“You mean go home with two extremely hot fella’s who took an interest in me? Oh yeah.” I tell him, grinning wickedly. I turn away, missing the fallen expression on Shawn’s face. When I look back, its masked.

“I thought so.” He says lowly and I glare.

“I don’t know how its any of your business. You didn’t care before so why should you now.”

“Stop saying that Y/n!” Shawn shouts and his voice has more of an affect now that we were in a quiet place. He turns left, the road leading to our old flat- my flat now.

“Saying what? That when we were together you couldn’t give two flips about my life unless it involved you?” I say back just as loud. “’Shawn my mum is on the phone’. What response to I get?” I pause, waiting. “I’m busy, tell her I said hi. Oh but Shawn she really wants to talk to- No I’m busy, go away, this is music stuff.” I imitate the conversation that happened when we were together.

“You know I was under pressure at work.” He whispers, pulling to a stop.

“She’s my Mum Shawn. She’s getting old. She’s not going to be around forever and I only wanted you to have a 5 minute conversation with her. She likes talking to you.” My own tone is soft as well.

“I’m sorry I missed one phone call with your Mum,” There’s a slight edge to his voice.

“I guess we’re doing this now?” I ask, running my hands over my bare arms to try and keep warm in the chilly air of his car.

“I guess we are.” Shawn mumbles.

“It wasn’t just that Shawn. We would be having dinner and I’d ask you about your day and as soon as you finished you would never ask me about my day and if you finished eating you would leave- even if I’m in the middle of a story.” He doesn’t answer.

“It hurts to feel like your boyfriend doesn’t even care about you.” I whisper, staring out the window, the glass foggy.

“I do care about you Y/n.” Shawn says softly, reaching out for my hand. I let him rest his palm over my hand. I stay still for a moment, reveling in the feel of having Shawn by my side again but I quickly push the feeling down. I pull my hand away from his and open the car door, unbuckling my seat belt and getting out the car.

Just as I’m about to shut the door I meet his hopeful eyes- the hope I’m about to crush. “You only care because I’m not yours anymore.”

Anonymous said:Prompts for two vampires getting into arguments about whether or not drinking from humans is okay? Thank you!

Anonymous said:I know you just literally posted the starving!vampire and the antagonist vampire prompt, so you can totally do these later or whenever you want. But I’m wondering if you could give us a few more? I love the angst-y-ness of the vampire hating themselves for being what they are. 🙈

((See here for my vampire tag))

1) “I’m not saying you have to drink blood,” the vampire rolled their eyes. “Just stop lecturing me about it. It’s the goddamn food chain.”
“Lecturing you about it! No, a lecture would be you haven’t done the dishes. You drinking blood is unsustainable and ethically cruel - it’s not like there aren’t plenty of alternatives these days-”
“-We’re vampires! Next you’re going to insist that cats only eat quorn.”

2) Dawn crept across the room, inching closer to the vampire’s bound and struggling limbs with each minute that passed. A bluff. Surely it was a bluff? They cried out as the light hit their bare foot. “Okay, okay!” they yelled. “You’ve made your point.”
“Have I?”
“I don’t want to die - please-”
“You don’t? You could have fooled me by starving yourself.” The other vampire picked at their nails. “Really this is kinder. You obviously don’t want to live that much, and it spares the rest of us having to listen to your whining for the rest of eternity.”
“I want to live!”
The other vampire yanked them back into the darkness before the light could fry them properly - hand closing tight around their throat in an instant. Eyes livid, facade of idle boredom gone. “Then stop being so self-pitying or next time I’ll let you burn. You’re driving me crazy!”

3) “We don’t have to be the monsters that they paint us as,” the vampire said earnestly. “We’re better than that.”
“Oh, honey.” The other vampire sighed. “I’m not a monster because of anything they said. You might want to switch to a less morally-orientated argument if you want to persuade me to your vampiric veganism. How about bribery?”

4) “Drinking from humans draws too much attention,” the vampire said. “It’s not worth it. You want hunters on our arses?”
“I mean,” the other vampire flashed a smile. “Depends how pretty the hunter is…”
“This is serious!”
“You worry too much. Does a fox worry about a rabbit’s rebellion?”
“Except humans aren’t cute little rabbits, they’re apex predators with fire and very large guns.”

5) The vampire groaned low as sharp fangs pierced their throat, grip unforgiving in their hair. The other vampire drank deeply, greedily - all wrong.
The other vampire didn’t stop. They only let the vampire crumple to the floor when they were done.
The vampire’s head spun, ice spreading through their veins, hunger burning in their stomach. But they barely had the strength to move.
The other vampire wiped their mouth before looking down at them, eyes dark and satiated. “Not nice, is it? Feeling like the human you feed off so carelessly?”
Their jaw clenched and they glared. “Probably still nicer than hating myself quite so much as you do.”

Summary: You don’t know why it is you find yourself in front of the rich, arrogant, Kim Seokjin’s penthouse after discovering your boyfriend with your best friend. You wonder why you chose to come to him, of all people, wonder why it’s him that you feel can be your only distraction, wonder why you seem convinced that he is the answer to the equation you’ve never been able to solve.

Kim Seokjin wonders why it’s you that ignites a raging inferno under his skin when he usually feels nothing at all.

A woman’s bra thrown haphazardly on the floor. That’s the first thing you see when you step into your boyfriend’s apartment. A little further down the dimly lit hall, a pair of pink stilettos that don’t belong to you, a pair of hastily removed black pants, an undone tie, and a deep scarlet dress that’s torn down the front. Two unfinished glasses of wine sit alone on the coffee table. One has the imprint of bright red lipstick smeared along the rim, marring the otherwise perfect chrome surface. It glows crimson in the pale light of the apartment, a scarlet letter. You’re not exactly sure how to categorize how you feel as your heart plummets like a stone in your chest, not sure how to describe the bitter cold that threads its way through your body, every nerve crystallizing into ice until even your fingertips are numb. The room drifts out of focus and you’re seeing double—two pairs of those offending pink heels, two black ties, two sets of those infuriating half-filled wine glasses—and it isn’t until you blink a stinging, humiliating teardrop out of your eye that you realize you’re crying. The entire world slams back into crystalline focus.

You’re numb as you walk down the hallway to the bedroom, movements mechanical and dissociated. The pathway is decorated with hastily abandoned articles of clothing. You aren’t stupid, by any means, fully aware of the scene that’ll undoubtedly greet you, but some perverse, insidious desire for confirmation prickles under your skin. You had noticed how his schedule had gradually become busier and busier, noticed how his responses to your messages became slower and slower, noticed how even when he was right next to you, he felt miles away. So you can’t describe your emotions as surprised when you step into the doorway and see the silhouette of a naked woman in his bathroom and see him in the middle of the room, only a towel wrapped around his waist. He freezes completely when he sees you. But your eyes aren’t on him. Instead, they’re drawn to the oh-so-familiar back of the woman in the bathroom. You can’t help but think about a nearly identical scene two years ago, flashing in your mind’s eye, as the exact same wave of dread drops over your shoulders. It feels like a funeral shroud.

“(Y/N),” he breathes, and she whirls in surprise.

Your best friend’s eyes land directly on yours.

Not again. It feels as if you’ve been kicked in the stomach, all the air in your lungs escaping your throat in a twisted little sound of pain and betrayal you barely recognize. You feel your heart shatter in your chest. The pain is raw and blinding and it tears through your entire body, unforgiving and without mercy. It’s both scalding and freezing at the same time.

She can’t bring herself to look away from your eyes. Even she can’t find any words, tongue stumbling over an empty explanation, and your boyfriend moves to shield her from your view, protecting her even now. Blood roars in your ears as you turn away, a flood of emotions slamming into you all at once, too quickly for you to process. This time you recognize the burn of tears in your eyes. Each one sears a burning path down your cheek as you stumble aimlessly out of the apartment building and hail a cab.

You don’t know why you end up in front of Kim Seokjin’s penthouse. You feel empty now, utterly hollow. It seems as if you had already cried out every drop of sadness in the fifteen minute drive, your eyes dry and throat hoarse. You slam your fist on the door twice and cross your arms impatiently, still unable to process the raging chaos of thoughts racing through your mind.

You hear movement inside and a muffled sigh. A glass clinks against a table top. “Jungkook, I told you—” The door opens and Seokjin’s tall frame appears, bronzed hair tousled. A wry grin spreads across his face and he cocks his head as he takes in your disheveled appearance in a slow, sweeping gaze. “You’re not Jungkook,” he says, intelligently. “What a lovely—”

You push past him, thoughts still thundering in your ears. You wonder why you chose to come to him, of all people, wonder why it’s him that you feel can be your only distraction, wonder why it’s him that can make you feel anything at all.

“Yes, come on in. Make yourself at home,” he calls after you sarcastically, scoffing in disbelief as he watches you collapse onto his couch.

“You have alcohol, don’t you?” Your hands come up to cover your face as your head falls back against the cushion. You want to forget more than anything right now. You want to experience everything from the detached, muted haze of alcohol.

You hear him close the door. “Why?” he asks, voice lilting. “Did you finally come to terms with the harsh reality of your dear, cheating boyfriend?”

Your eyes snap open and heat rushes to your face. He returns your glare evenly, head cocked to the side. “What, you didn’t think everyone already knew?” He lets out a biting laugh, but there’s nothing humorous about it. “That’s why you’re here now, isn’t it? To drink yourself into a stupor so you can forget all your problems?”

His words sting, cutting deeper into your already battered heart. “Why else would I ever come to you?” you shoot back acrimoniously.

The smile on his face stiffens, his eyes locking with yours momentarily. After a beat of silence he turns, pulling open a cabinet behind him and placing two crystal glasses on the marble countertop. “What do you feel like?”

“Anything other than wine.” You want to wash the lump in your throat down with the burning fire of alcohol. “The stronger the better.”

Seokjin nods in assent, selecting a short, dark bottle filled with a golden fluid.

When he hands you your drink, he brushes unnecessarily close to you, choosing to walk behind the couch so that he can press the drink into your hand by leaning in so close you can feel his hot breath fanning over your neck. You don’t really mind. The warmth he emits is comforting, and it disappears all too quickly when he steps around the corner of the couch to sink into the leather beside you. “To forgetting everything,” he says drily, raising his glass. His arm nudges yours to indicate for you to do the same.

You grimace in response but clink your glass to his anyway, just to humor him. “To forgetting,” you echo, and bring the liquor to your lips, taking a giant gulp.

It burns like fire going down your throat. You cough and splutter as you struggle to swallow, throat flaming and eyes stinging. The alcohol sears a blazing path down your body as it slides down your chest to your stomach.

“Careful,” Seokjin warns wryly, taking an equally large swallow without flinching. “You’ll only be able to drink like that after many of these nights.”

You ignore his warning and knock back your head with another large draught, grimacing as you swallow. It slides down smoothly this time. The warmth pools in your chest and blooms in a white hot heat that curls slowly outwards and causes your blood to rise to your cheeks, tinting them a bright crimson. Yet you feel a perverse sense of satisfaction at the pain, a bitter smile curling your wetted lips. “Isn’t it funny?” you say into the bottom of your glass, eyes glazed and distant as you watch the golden ichor-like fluid swirl hypnotizingly slowly in your hands. You ask no one in particular—it’s an empty question asked only by those who don’t want answers. Seokjin listens anyway. “I’m not even surprised. You’d think that I would be satisfied now, finally knowing the truth I had suspected all along.” Your eyes burn along with the liquor in your chest. Seokjin doesn’t say anything, only sips on his drink in silence as he watches you from the corner of his eye. You let out another bitter laugh. “You’d think I could feel liberated now, knowing the truth.”

Seokjin scoffs into his glass. “Now, (Y/N), you know better than that, don’t you? That’s never how it works. You should know better.”

Blood boils in your veins.  You want to push him, to force something genuine out him. You want to see something real from the unfeeling Kim Seokjin. You’re destruction in the form of harsh, caustic words, and you want Kim Seokjin to come tumbling down with you. “It was Eunwoo,” you snap suddenly, focusing your blazing glare on him as you say her name so you can watch his reaction. You want to see the pain on his face. You want someone else to experience the same betrayal and anger, the same pure, raw pain. You want to feel something, and there was no one better than Seokjin for that. You don’t want to be alone in someone else’s company. Not now.

He freezes, his glass half tipped back, the drink just barely grazing his lips.

“The girl he’s been fucking behind my back. It’s Eunwoo.” A cruel smile twists the edge of your lips. “You like her, don’t you? I’ve seen you watching her when she’s with me.”

You watch with twisted satisfaction as his eyes darken and knuckles whiten around his glass, still frozen mid-sip.

“My best friend, Eunwoo. Eunwoo, beautiful and intelligent.” Acid in your lungs and saccharine poison drips in your words. “Eunwoo, who all the men fall for. Eunwoo, who has drawn in every man I’ve ever fallen for.” You spit her name like a curse. You don’t know if the burning in your chest is from the liquor anymore. “Eunwoo, who has fucked not one, but two of my boyfriends behind my back.” A sliver of the betrayal you feel slips into your voice treacherously, contorting your words so they fall out with a broken inflection. “Why do you like her?”

“What do you mean?” He lowers his drink from his lips, eyes still storming. Good.

“Eunwoo. Why do you like her?”

He turns his head away from you with a sigh. “I can’t answer that.”

It infuriates you. “Why?” you press, unable to stop yourself from self-destruction. “Are you in love with her?” Your eyes are probing, listening intently with a shameless, desperate curiosity for his answer. You anticipate his yes, his dry confirmation in that viscous, smooth voice of his. Yes, he loves Jung Eunwoo. He’ll say it with pain in his dark eyes, you’re sure. But despite yourself, even as you wait expectantly for his yes, your ears desperately listen for his no. No, Kim Seokjin does not love Jung Eunwoo. No, Jung Eunwoo’s presence in the wistful corners of his guarded thoughts does not mean more to him than your presence here, right next to him. No, what Kim Seokjin feels for Jung Eunwoo does not take precedence over what he feels right now. No, you are not alone in someone else’s company. You can’t bear that anymore.

Seokjin laughs, but the sound is harsh and wrong. “Did you love your boyfriend?”

“Yes,” you say decisively, relishing in the way his eyes flick over to you immediately, eyes dark and intense, knowing he wasn’t expecting an answer. “I did.” Perhaps it’s the alcohol coursing through your veins, or maybe it’s Seokjin’s piercing, heavy gaze, but your tongue is loose tonight and you crave his rapt, burning attention.

“Why?” His eyes have darkened several shades. They pin you and you feel as if they are slowly peeling back the layers you have buried yourself under, exposing you, making you naked under his gaze.

“He cared,” you say finally, after a few moments of dead silence.

Seokjin lets out a harsh breath of disbelief. “That’s it?” He snaps his fingers and widens his eyes as if he’s had an epiphany, pointing at you with his index finger. “So the mailman—you’ll love him too? And Park Jimin, your friend? Ah, and who else, your boss? That’s all it takes for you to love someone? He just has to care?”

You ignore his sarcasm and wrap your hands around the glass in your lap, thoughts far away. Your finger runs absently around the rim, wetting in the condensation. “No,” you say, so quietly it’s almost inaudible. “He cared about me. Like I mattered.” That bitter, sad smile returns to your lips once more. “I wanted to matter to him.”

Seokjin swallows his anger as he watches you, your gaze distant as your fingers slowly slacken around the glass placed so precariously in your lap, the liquid sloshing dangerously.

He leans forward and catches the drink in your hands just as it begins to slip from your grasp. His skin burns hot against yours as his hand wraps around your fingers to cup the glass, his much larger hand easily dominating yours. Your body tenses at the contact. The glass is cold against your palms, but his hands are blazing, the heat pulsating from him igniting you. It’s as if time has stopped completely. Your breath stills completely in your throat, and it seems as if Seokjin’s has too, because he stares down at your small hands in his, unable to move. You watch the bob of his adam’s apple as he swallows, his eyes trained on the light twitch of your fingers as the pad of his thumb sweeps the delicate skin of your hand. The stroke is so light and tentative you barely feel it, but it still sends shivers down your spine.

“Am I really so dumb to want that?” you breathe, cutting into the silence.

You immediately regret asking. He seems to come back down to reality, pulling his hand away from yours hastily as he straightens. That hand that grasped yours curls into a fist in his lap. Instantly, your hands feel cold again, the ember that he had ignited in you flickering away to ash. You crave his warmth, his touch. You crave the feeling of those burning fingers ghosting your cold skin again.

“No,” he manages, his voice thick and low.

“How do you know?” you press. You don’t know what it is you’re expecting to hear. An admission? A confession? But curiosity boils in your veins nevertheless.

His jaw clenches tightly. He turns to face you, eyes dark and smoldering as he holds your probing gaze. The grayed ember reignites in the pit of your stomach as you look at him, his tousled bronze hair glinting in the light, the top button of his shirt undone and just barely exposing his chest. He watches your eyes travel down to his ruby lips, full and soft, and you can’t seem to pull your eyes away, drawn like a bee to honey, utterly enraptured. His face is less than a foot from yours. Sweet breath mixes with yours. Cologne fills your senses. He draws in closer—there are less than six inches between his mouth and yours. “It was never Eunwoo,” he murmurs, his full lips curving around each word.

It’s only four words, but they carry a thousand meanings. Time seem to slow to a crawl around you. It’s a simple elementary equation. Kim Seokjin is to either Jung Eunwoo or you. If the answer is not Jung Eunwoo, to whom is Kim Seokjin? Yet your mind can’t seem to wrap around the solution.

But you can understand the searing heat of Seokjin’s skin on yours. You can understand the throbbing desire that tears at you from within, craving for the heat of his gaze on you, his lips on your throat. You can understand that it is only Kim Seokjin that can ignite you from within and leave burning trails of fire every where he touches. You can understand the dull ache of pure, unadulterated need to feel that fire again.

Kim Seokjin is to you as you are to Kim Seokjin.

You set your glass down on the coffee table in front of you, slowly, without taking your eyes off of him. “Are you going to do anything about it?” It’s a challenge weakly guised under the pretense of an innocent question.

Kim Seokjin has never been one to back away from a challenge. A flood emotions flash in his eyes as you lean closer. “I won’t hold ba—”

You don’t wait for him to finish, closing the distance and finally, finally, crushing your lips against his. He abandons the glass in his hand, dropping it onto the wool carpet and ignoring the telltale slosh as it spills into multi thousand dollar fibres, undoubtedly staining. He couldn’t care less. The hand immediately comes to rest on the outside of your thigh, applying delicious pressure. You can’t help but notice that the curve of his hand fits you perfectly. You shift, moving your body so that you’re straddling him, your knees on either side of his spread legs. He tugs you closer, the hand once holding his glass slipping under your shirt and pulling your hips flush against his. It’s still cold, damp from the condensation left on his hand, and you shudder at the feeling. You fist your hands in the fabric covering his chest. You can feel his heartbeat through the thin fabric of his shirt, thrumming under your fingertips as he deepens the kiss, his fingers dancing along the sides of your waist under your shirt.

You can taste the liquor on his lips, on his tongue, burning and sweet. Kim Seokjin kindles a fire in you that burns brighter than the alcohol.

You are the one to break the kiss, lips swollen and bitten. Everywhere he touched blazes. Heat blooms in your chest again, stronger than even the liquor in your veins. The memory of your boyfriend’s betrayal is far in the distance, already nearly forgotten, and all you can think is Seokjin, Seokjin, Seokjin, as you latch your lips onto his defined jawline, the sweet taste of his skin mingling with the salty thin sheen of sweat. He groans as your lips travel lower, along the column of his neck, teeth grazing the sensitive skin. His eyes flutter closed and his head falls back against the couch as you drag your teeth across his skin slowly, teasingly. You unbutton his shirt hastily as he reaches behind you to unzip your dress. His touch ignites a raging inferno as his warm hands push the fabric off of your shoulders and you tip your head with a breathy gasp of yes, Seokjin and he nearly loses himself, right then and there. Your head tips back to expose the creamy, smooth skin of your throat, lips parted. His hot mouth finds purchase in the newly exposed juncture of your neck and collarbone, lightly biting into that sensitive spot that makes goosebumps erupt along the surface and chills run down your spine, your fingernails digging into his shoulders.

He shrugs his shirt off of his shoulders as you fumble with his belt impatiently. He chuckles, a low rumble that you feel against your skin, at your impatience, one eyebrow cocked before gently pushing you off of him so he can do it himself to remove his pants and briefs together. Your skin feels unnaturally cold without him pressing against you. You impatiently shrug off the rest of your clothing and throw it unceremoniously onto the floor. Just as he begins to stand, you push him back down onto the couch, your palms flattening against his toned chest. His eyes sparkle with amusement as he looks up at you, legs spread. He’s bigger than you expected, much bigger than your boyfriend had been. For a second, you worry that you won’t be able to take all of him in. But the need for Seokjin burning hot, so hot, in the pit of your stomach far outshines the slight prickle of worry.

You straddle him carefully, hands gripping tightly onto his shoulders and fingernails digging into the warm skin. Just as you begin to position yourself on top of him, his hands come up to grip your hips, preventing you from moving. You look at his hands in surprise and desperation, unable to move against his firm hold. His jaw is tight from restraint. The muscle in his jaw twitches slightly when you whine, but he keeps his grip steady. His eyes are warm when you meet them, the pad of his thumb rubbing slow circles against the sensitive spot on your hip that sends a flash of warmth straight down between your thighs, where a dull ache burns.

One of his hands comes up to gently brush a stray strand of hair behind your ear. “Are you sure you want this?” His voice is strained from the effort, and he honestly doesn’t know what he’ll do if you say no.

“Please, Seokjin,” you whimper, and he relents, groaning your name under his breath.

You sink onto him slowly, reveling in the pleasure of feeling him stretch you so widely, fill you so deeply, and a gasp of pleasure escapes your lips as he bottoms out completely, rubbing your walls in all the right ways.

“Fuck,” he hisses. “You’re so fucking tight.” His fingers grip your hips so tightly you’re sure he’ll leave bruises, knowing you need time to adjust.

Your head falls to the crook of his neck, teeth grazing his sensitive throat. “Fuck me, Seokjin,” you breathe. He shudders underneath you, a low growl rumbling deep in his chest. His hands burn against your skin as he lifts your hips, guiding you up and down, setting a smooth rhythm.

Your head falls back in pleasure as his hips roll against yours, hitting deep in you. Small gasps fall from your mouth at the pace he pushes into you, your eyes rolling back in euphoric pleasure as pressure builds from that dull ache at your core. Seokjin’s mouth is at your throat. His full, soft lips suck and nip at the sensitive exposed skin, down from your jaw, along your throat, ghosting the tops of your collarbones, heightening every sensation.

You roll your hips to meet his, clumsily at first, but the pleasure increases tenfold as he hits an entirely new spot deep in you and you let out a loud, heady moan, fingernails dragging down his chest as your other hand buries and twists in his silky hair, pulling slightly. He groans at your movements. “Does that feel good?” he manages, thick through his teeth. You can only let out a sharp cry of pleasure as he drives into you with a sudden quick snap of his hips. His grip tightens on your waist as he does it again, impaling you on him the same time he thrusts upwards, slamming into you. “Does it?”

“Y-yes,” you slur, head tipped back as he fastens his hungry lips on your jaw. “G-god you feel so fucking good, Seokjin.”

He hums against you in satisfaction at your answer, rutting into you faster, nipping and sucking every square inch of exposed skin he can reach. You can feel your orgasm building again. It tightens in your stomach and you rock your hips against his faster to convey your urgency.

Seokjin watches you through hooded lids, reveling in the way you’ve become so absolutely wrecked for him, your glistening lips parted in silent cries of ecstasy, your hair messy, eyes clenched shut as you mewl his name, begging for him to go faster, harder. “You’re so beautiful,” he says as he acquiesces and pounds faster, gritting his teeth when he feels your fingers tighten in his hair.

“Almost,” you pant shallowly, vision blurring as he continuously hits deep into you.

“Come for me, (Y/N),” he groans into your throat. “Now.”

You unravel with a sharp cry, your entire body tensing as you reach your release. Pleasure overtakes your body in waves as your nails drag down Seokjin’s shoulders. You can feel yourself tightening around him, desperately trying to milk out his orgasm, but he doesn’t relent, continuing to rut into you as you descend slowly from your high.

He stands, still buried in you, and you instinctively wrap your legs around his slim waist and your lips find his, hair falling forward like a curtain around your faces. There is only Seokjin.

Suddenly, you’re pressed back against a cool plaster wall. The cold instantly seeps into your bare skin, and you yelp in surprise against his lips.

Seokjin smirks and he starts his hips again, rolling against you. One of your arms snakes around his neck, pulling him closer as your other hand tangles in his already mussed hair as he fucks you against the wall. He doesn’t go easy this time around, now trying to achieve his own high.

His hips slam against you relentlessly, forcing your back to rub against the wall with each deep thrust, adding an edge of pain to the pleasure that again tightens in your stomach.

“Seokjin,” you gasp as he hits that spot with a particularly hard thrust, your fingers tugging senselessly at his hair. You’re already on the precipice of your next orgasm, teetering dangerously on the edge as he fucks into you. You dig your heels into the small of his back, forcing him impossibly deeper, and your back arches in white pleasure.

Ff-fuck,” he stutters, his rhythm faltering. You can feel him swell inside you, filling you even more. “Say it again.” His teeth drag along the delicate skin of your shoulder. “My name.”

You smile, though he can’t see it. “Seokjin,” you sigh breathlessly, your lips pressed against the soft shell of his ear, your sharp nails raking down his back.

He tenses, body drawing completely taught, muscles flexing. Seokjin comes violently and messily, you learn. His body shakes as he releases, filling you with rope after rope as he rides out his orgasm, your name falling from his lips like a mantra.

You come undone once again at the feeling of him losing himself in you, your name on his lips, his hips stuttering. Your vision whitens as your fingernails dig so deeply into his back the skin breaks. Good. You want to mark him as yours. You want him to remember you. You want him to remember the burn of your bodies moving in perfect unison. Your lewd moan of release is muffled in his neck as he stills.

You feel his heartbeat thrumming against you, sticky skin pressed flush against sticky skin. You can feel is racing pulse under your swollen lips.

The room is silent except for the sounds of your combined heavy pants. Neither of you move as heartbeats slow and chests still.

You don’t want to move away, you think, even as you unhook your legs from around his back, even as you flatten your palms against his chest and apply gentle pressure. Your legs are unsteady but your push him anyway. Seokjin pulls out and steps away, catching you just as you lose balance.

You don’t complain when he lifts you and carries you back to his bedroom, setting you gently on the plush bed. He takes a few seconds to pick up the clothes you left on the ground in the living room, shrugging his wrinkled shirt back onto his shoulders as he hands them to you.

“Thanks,” you say intelligently. You don’t know what else to say. There are a thousand questions at the tip of your tongue, a thousand thoughts crowding your mind, a thousand emotions coiled in the pit of your stomach.

A small smile teases his lips as he watches you. “I’ll wait for you.”
