Everyone (I mean that like one would mean the universal “we”) talks about how they want diversity and great representation in film and other media; and YET Y’ALL ARE SLEEPING ON POWER RANGERS!!!!!
As stated HERE ya’ll are all talk; there is finally a movie with great diversity and you won’t go see it. We get representation and ya’ll would rather go see the live action of a movie we have all probably watched more times than we can count when we were younger that had the same exact plot and its LGBTQ representation was a man whose name translates into “The Fool” and a primarily white cast.
Before I move on I would like to make a point about how hurtful it can be when a canonically bi-racial character is whitewashed.
KIMBERLY ANN HART IS BI-RACIAL!!!!! (AS IS NAOMI SCOTT!!)
Kimberly is half white half Indian just as Naomi Scott is and I am very glad that they stuck to that when it came to casting Kimberly’s parents.
Now, when you white wash a bi-racial character you are erasing a part of their identity. As a bi-racial person myself it always saddens me when I see whitewashing of a bi-racial character and I can only imagine how that actor/actress feels when they encounter their character being whitewashed. By whitewashing a bi-racial character you are telling that actor/actress that you are only accepting them for half of them and not all of them.
When you whitewash bi-racial characters you take this whole rounded character and break them in half, erasing what makes them, them. So just imagine how hurt and sad Naomi Scott must feel when her Indian heritage is erased.
And that is why I love it when I see bi-racial actor/actress’ play characters who are portrayed as bi-racial.
Power Rangers is a movie that is trying to give a whole new story than the one we all know. It gave us the nostalgia of our childhoods while also giving us a new story for a new generation. It gives us an autistic superhero who wasn’t cured of his autism once he became a superhero showing everyone just like him that autism isn’t something that limits them or tells them they can’t be a hero. (I’m no expert on autism and I’m not going to pretend I am)
Power Rangers gave us LGBTQ representation in the form of a Latina POC who I know many of us can relate too. There are many LGBTQ people out there who don’t feel as if they relate to their family or feel as if they can open up to them due to pressure or fear that they won’t be accepted.
THIS MOVIE DESERVES ALL THE SEQUELS!!!!!!!
Now let me tell you what this movie flopping tells the film industry:
Power Rangers flopping tells those big media companies that no wants to see a movie with a diverse cast, it shows them that no one cares about LGBTQ representation in media, it tells them that an autistic superhero is unrealistic, it tells them that NONE of that matters; that WE (Again using this universally) do not matter, it shows that NO ONE CARES, and I think that is very sad.
So don’t just talk; DO.
Don’t rant and rave about how you want diversity and representation in film and then not support that film/content when it comes out.
The saying is “Actions speak louder than words.”
So go out there and support this film, watch it while it is still available in theaters, (even if it is just the matinee prices), buy this film when it comes out on blu-ray and DVD, buy the merch, SHOW THOSE BIG MEDIA COMPANIES THAT WE MATTER AND CARE!!
(AND FOR THE LOVE OF GOD STOP WHITEWASHING KIMBERLY ANN HART)
Summary: a bestfriend!luke au where Luke is in love with (Y/N), but she doesn’t know. She comes running back to Luke every time a guy fucks her over, and Luke is tired of it.
Warnings: none that I can think of
A/N: there may be a part two to this? If you guys like it, let me know and I’ll write a part two. Enjoy!
“(Y/N)? ’S that you?” Luke asks, hearing the front door open and close. “No, it’s a homeless person trying to break in.” You reply, walking into the living room. Luke is sitting on the couch, a movie playing on the flat screen across the room. “Of course it’s me, you idiot.” You mumble, plopping down on the couch beside him. Luke smirks a little. “Didn’t you have a date tonight?” You glance at him as you steal some popcorn from the bowl in his lap.
“Aren’t you supposed to be with Arz tonight?” You retort. He shrugs, mumbling, “good point.” It’s silent for a few minutes, until finally, Luke reaches for the remote and turns the TV off. He turns to you, raising an eyebrow.
“What?” You ask. “Aren’t you gonna tell me what went wrong?” You sigh, turning to face him as well. “He showed up in one of those tiny little square looking cars, you know, like the ones we laugh at all the time?” Luke instantly loses it, his lips turning up into a grin. “No! You are not allowed to laugh at this. It was awful. And in case you’re wondering, those cars are even smaller inside than we thought.” You tell him. Luke raises his eyebrows, a little surprised.
“So, right off the bat, I’m like, cringing inside. But I figure that everyone deserves a fair chance, so I go to dinner with him.” You continue, Luke nodding his head, a signal for you to go on. “And he orders for me at the restaurant. I didn’t even get to choose anything! He ordered my wine and my meal, and then proceeded to order dessert too. And then he talked about himself the entire time, never even asked about me or my life.” Luke holds his hand up.
“Wait, tell me you didn’t actually go back to his place with him after he was a dick at dinner.” You frown, looking away. “(Y/N)!” Luke yells, throwing his head back and laughing. “What? He seemed like he would be good. But, he wasn’t.” You mumble. “Oh, you have to tell me what happened. This is too good.” Luke says, leaning closer to you.
“He fell asleep in the middle of going down on me.” You say quietly, covering your face with your hands. “He fell… he fell asleep?” Luke repeats, another wrong of giggles leaving his lips. You push his shoulder, hard, and Luke falls off the couch, but continues to laugh.
“Shut up.” You say, throwing some popcorn at him. Luke’s laughs eventually die down, and he moves into his knees in front of you. He places his hands on your thighs.
“I’m sorry, but that’s the biggest train wreck of a date you’ve ever had, sweetheart.” He murmurs, chuckling. “I know!” You exclaim, rolling your eyes. Luke gets back on the couch and pulls you over until your curled up into his side with his arm around you. “Nobody’s we’re gonna fuck you like I did.” He says, a small smirk on his face. “Shut up. We’re not going there tonight.” You say, and he nods. Once, in Vegas, you and Luke had had way too much to drink and ended up sleeping together. It was amazing, but both of you agreed that it wouldn’t happen again since it would probably ruin your friendship.
“Wait, why aren’t you with Arzaylea right now?” You ask, curious. “It was just another public appearance. Told management I wasn’t feeling up for it tonight.” Luke replies. You lift your head to look at him. “Everything okay?” You ask softly. “‘Course it is, babe. Just needed a night in. I didn’t feel like dealing with her tonight.” Luke says, pushing your head back down onto his shoulder. You sigh, your eyes falling closed. You hear Luke mumble something, but you can’t ask what he said before sleep pulls you under.
You wake up to the sun shining into your eyes. You groan a little, sitting up. This isn’t the first time you’ve fallen asleep on Luke’s couch, and it probably won’t be the last, either. He always forgets to close the curtains before you both fall asleep, resulting in the sun waking you up every time you stay. You’re about to call out to Luke, but the sound of voices stop you. You frown, walking to the kitchen, but stopping when you hear your name. It’s the boys, and they’re all sitting at the kitchen table and island while Luke cooks breakfast.
“Have you told (Y/N) yet?” Michael asks nonchalantly, scrolling through something on his phone. “No. And I don’t plan on telling her anytime soon, either.” Luke replies, his voice raspy and his accent deeper from sleep. “Why not?” Ashton asks, getting involved in the conversation. “You know why. She’s my best friend, telling her would make things weird.” Luke says. Calum gets up and grabs orange juice out of the fridge. “But what if doesn’t make things weird? She probably already knows. You’re like a love-sick puppy around her. You’re so obvious about it, too.” He says, pouring a glass of orange juice. “Clearly I’m not, since she obviously doesn’t know.” It’s silent for a moment, which is when you decide to walk in.
“Hey, (Y/N).” Ashton says, waving. You wave, giving him a small smile. Luke glances up, a grin instantly overtaking his face. “Morning, sunshine.” You groan, rubbing your eyes. “Shut up.” He chuckles and pulls you into a hug. “So is this like, the start up of the friends with benefits thing again?” Ashton asks. You shake your head. “No, it’s not like that.” Luke nods, turning back to the stove.
“So what is it like, then?” Ashton pries. You raise your eyebrows at him. “Curiosity killed the cat, Ashton.” You say quietly. He shrugs, looking away. Your phone dings from where it’s charging on the counter. “I plugged it in for you when we got here. That thing has been going off all morning.” Michael says. You frown, checking your messages.
“Who is it?” Luke asks. “David; he wants to go on a date tonight.” You tell him. “David as in the one who left you in the middle of nowhere that one time just because you wouldn’t sleep with him?” Calum asks. You nod, walking over and taking his glass of orange juice and sipping it.
“Are you gonna go?” Luke asks. “I might. Everyone deserves a second chance.” You say softly. Luke pauses, and everything is quiet for a minute.
“I think you should leave, (Y/N).” He finally says, causing your eyebrows to furrow. “What?” You ask, confused. “You need to go. I’m tired of waiting around for something that clearly is not going to happen. Go home and get ready for your date, but don’t you dare fucking come running back to me when he treats you like shit.” Luke turns to face you, his jaw clenched.
“Get out, (Y/N).”
“You can’t be serious.”
You look at the boys, shocked. “Guys?” You ask, hoping one of them will stand up for you. “I’m sorry, (Y/N). He’s right, he shouldn’t have to wait around for you.” Calum says quietly. “Wait around for me? Why would you need to do that?” You ask, even more confused now.
“He’s in love with you, babe.” Michael says, shaking his head. “What?!” You turn to Luke. “Luke, tell me that isn’t true. You know we can’t go there.” You tell him. “I know. That’s exactly why I’m telling you to leave. I don’t want to see you anymore, (Y/N).”
You stand there, surprise written all over your face. Luke raises his eyebrows, a signal for you to leave. You sigh, grabbing your phone and charger, then grabbing your purse in the living room and leaving his house. This is just a little fight. You’re sure that Luke will call within a day or two to apologize and invite you over.
Except he doesn’t. You wait two weeks, and there still isn’t a phone call from Luke.
So that is how you ended up here, meeting Ashton at Starbucks.
“You really didn’t know?” He asks, raising his eyebrows. “I swear, I had no idea that he felt that way.” You tell him. He nods, sipping his coffee. “Ash… how is he?” You ask quietly, not wanting to know the answer. Ashton sighs.
“I’m not gonna lie, (Y/N). The first week without you was rough for him, but he’s doing great now. He just wrote three songs and they’re all so good. He’s the best I’ve ever seen him.” Ashton tells you. It’s your turn to sigh. “What should I do?” Ashton bites his lip.
“Move on. He’s doing the same. I love you, (Y/N), and I’ll always be here for you, but Luke is one of my best friends. I don’t think he needs you back in his life. The friendship you had with him, whether intentionally or not, was toxic. You guys slept together and feelings grew. You played him without realizing it, and I’m not mad at you for that. None of us are. But you’re both better off without the other.”
By the time Ashton finishes his speech, tears are welling up in your eyes. “I really fucked up this time, didn’t I?” You ask, your voice cracking slightly. Ashton sighs and moves over to your side of the booth, pulling you into his side.
“I just want to fix things. I don’t want him out of my life forever.” You tell Ashton, tears rolling down your cheeks and landing on the band tee he’s wearing.
Hi Lauren~ I was wondering: how does it feel to be Zach Valenti's mom? Is he a good son? Did he eat his vegetables? Does he have embarrassing potty training stories?
I have literally no idea where this question is coming from, but I definitely behave like a mom in the sense that I constantly call him up to ask him about how technology works! He is very patient with me.
I have no doubt that @iamzachvalenti is an amazing son to his parents - he’s got one of the biggest hearts I’ve ever encountered and takes care of everyone around him.

“Dean come on man, you don’t have to do this.” Sam stated, reaching for his brother.
The older Winchester turned on his heels and shook his head. “You see them. Laughing and crap.”
Sam followed his gaze and saw you with Brian, looking at his car.
“Are you serious? Dude, it’s just some guy. I am sure she won’t even remember his name after this.”
Dean clenched his jaw shut and shrugged his shoulders. “That’s the plan.” He smirked. “Now watch out, I’ve got a race to win.”
Before Sam could protest, he slipped into his car and closed the door behind him.
“So you really like racing huh?” You asked, biting on your lower lip, refraining from smiling.
“It’s my life. It’s like-” he paused and crept up behind you. Causing chills to cover you up and down. “It’s freedom. Just you and the road.”
Your stomach fluttered, and your breath hitched to the back of your throat. As you slowly turned to face him, you met his beautiful blue eyes. Losing yourself in them.
Man he was gorgeous. And the way he was so carefree somehow made him even more sexier.
“Hey O'conner! Are you just gonna stand there all day or you going to the streets!” Someone yelled from behind.
You both turned your gaze over.
“Shut up toretto! I’m comin.” Brian stammered. “We will continue this conversation when I get back.”
He walked over to the car, and slipped in. Sam made his way to your side, catching your attention.
“This is crazy.” Sam muttered.
“Why is Dean even doing this?” You exclaimed, looking at the two cars in front of you.
“He is doing it for you.”
His words stitched into you and for a moment, you almost forgot how to breathe.
“Alright boys! Ready, set, GO!” The girl yelled, throwing the flag up in the air.
Before you knew it, the guys were down the street, side by side. Your heart was pounding profusely hoping they’d both come back safely. Especially Dean and his baby. You don’t know what would happen if he scratched the car.
“I can’t watch!” You spewed, covering your eyes with your hands.
Sam could only chuckle.
Brian had one thing on his mind, and that was to win. If he won, that meant he was able to take you out. And since the moment he laid eyes on you, that’s all he wanted. Was to get to know you.
He put his heart into this race, focusing on the road in front of him.
Dean was in the lead for a bit. Smirking as he kept he speed.
For the year he has known you, he couldn’t help but have feelings for you. But with this life, he was afraid to act on them. Until today when he noticed how easy it is to lose you to someone else. And it scared him.
They were close to the end, and you couldn’t breathe. Biting your nails out of habit, you were honestly not even sure who you wanted to win.
Dean felt cocky as he was in the lead, laughing until Brian managed to sneak up next to him.
The roar from their engines caused shivers up and down your spine. Anxious for it to end.
“Holy crap, this is so close!” Sam cackled.
“Shit!” You exhaled.
Closing your eyes shut, the boys made their way to the end. Everyone soared, clapping and chanting.
You shot your gaze to Sam, and furrowed your brows.
“Wait, who won?!”
