i am never satisfied with my coloring

anonymous asked:

Did you always do the star thing in the eyes? Cause your art feels different and I think that's why

No! Truth be told my style is constantly changing. I used to absolutely hate it, but now I’ve realized it’s kind of a good thing? Allow me to take you on a journey…

When I first started doing comics, I used kind of the classic tumblr “stick figure” of a white, blobby character. I also used only shades of blue? Haha kind of like a Picasso blue period. My frames were not aligned and I could not draw noses or hands to save my life. This is a segment of a comic from 2014:

Eventually in 2015 I left the blue period and started using black and white with select colors and shading (this is still one of my favorite comics btw)…

I was never satisfied with my style (and honestly still am not today). In 2016 I took a class about writing newspaper comics strips and for a while that was how I designed my comics…

This class is where I introduced my classic top bun hairstyle you see on my Moga character in every comic. I even did a comic about how different my styles were at the time…

Overtime my illustration skills (anatomy, figure placement, etc.) grew from practice. But, I was so frustrated that I didn’t have a set style and I was completely unsatisfied with my work. So I began to look at artists who styles I admire and compile a list of things I like and included them in my comics. The biggest similarity between all those artists was striking color palettes, so I began to play with pastels…

Using bright color palettes is something I’ve been doing for over a year now. My style has always had very thick, black line work and that was something that took a long time for me to realize I didn’t like. Only in the last few months have I begun exploring comics that don’t rely on thick linework. This comic below was something I considered not thick line art…

However I thought that these comics looked too flat (even with that slight multiply layer to give the cheeks some color) So I began to explore how I could make the LINE ART not flat but also not thick/overwhelming. Eventually I settled on adding tiny little line art details all throughout my pieces. The stars in the eyes happens to be one of those little details!!

And here we are today!!!

I am so sorry I’m sure this is not the kind of response you were looking for, but it’s kind of a journey down memory lane I’ve been meaning to take! I hope this answered your question and gave some insight into my artistic development in regards to comics.

All the best!!

Cannibalism

I never understood why people described me using food; “Her skin is like caramel, her eyes like honey, her hair is chocolate.” Other girls got compared to flowers and the ocean, I was only spices and side dishes. To this, I say no more. I am not available for your consumption. You will not taste my flesh on your tongue. You will not inhale my scent. I am not your nourishment. I will not satisfy you. You won’t fill your hunger with my presence.
I Will Eat You.

a v small AU where Uraraka is the star of a softball team!! her teammates call her Infinity Girl bc she has the highest ever streak record of home runs~ ^^

(disclaimer is i’ve never played softball a day in my life lmao, also I may do some of the other girls too bc i have a few ideas if anyone is interested~)

My days

I approach every morning with a blank canvas in my mind… but even on nothing but white I still see the vanishing point. That spot at the end where the goal I am trying to get to exists. I place lighthouses along the way… beacons of hope and despair and greatly clouded clarity that all amalgamate into something that somehow shapes and forms my day.

Color slowly begins to fuse its way in… with good mornings and how did you sleeps… with agendas for the day, the tasks at hand, the new messages and questions and pleas for help… colors crash and melt and burn and fuse together.

I see music in color… its both an affliction and a luxury. Theres a term for it and those who are affected by it either end up losing their minds or embracing their inner being. And this last year of my life has been a great collision of both.

Shapes come together to factor my reasoning. When faced with an issue I dont see fires or calamity.. I see squares and circles, and little boxes with things and crumbs of what is to come.

And what is to come?

And what shall it become?

Colors run… bleed… spill across my day. Shapes and forms and circles and cracks in the armor. Its all the same really, depending on your lens. My lens is not rose colored nor deformed, but rather enlightened. thats what it seems anyhow… because I see… I see…

“…If you could see the you that I see when I see you seeing me, you would see yourself so differently… believe me.”

anchors exist for many reasons. Lighthouses exist for a few.

Hold me down. Hold me around…. give me a direction… hope… I dont know… i still believe… I do… I always will.

My day is shaped by the next message… the immediate and post supposed thoughts. The projects and clients and deadlines… the words and reminders.. the regimented trips to be watched like a hawk as I put a tiny cup to my mouth.

People mistake silence for disinterest.

But…. I am the one to be chased in this great dance. theres always someone waiting. someone watching. someone making notes and throwing my heart to the side to stomp upon my mind. But they dont get very far… because my mind is expansive beyond its parameters.

“… now you see how you are, the wisdom mixed it with all the scars
go on out and watch all the fools pass themselves on by
they never knew, they never do, it was always up to you
you gotta go out and get it for yourself.”

Colors smear… across the page of my day… the skin of my day… the cracks and crevices of my brain filled with that which I cannot feasibly hold in my hands. Water takes the path of least resistance you know…

“this wisdom is sacred, Mister… you must always share it. Its been given to you as a gift for others. I am trusting you to not let it die within you.”

and so promises are kept. because promises were kept.

Sacrifices are kept.

Solidarity is kept.

“..we only have what we remember”

Colors collide and crash and battle… the war… the worn… its the same sometimes. sometimes its the game we must play. The sound never ends.. never stops… it never will. Nothing nullifies the noise. Nothing satisfies the shapes. I simply close my eyes when I can… retrieve myself in another world..

and the canvas starts over again.

“.. I still believe in anchors”

Bon anniversaire, @hippano!! (Yep, french version, but he says it before me)

To my favorite artist, I wish you a wonderful day! Because before, I was too shy to just say “Happy Birthday”, I’m happy to be able to do something today for you! You’re the best, each new MorMor fanart vibrates my heart, you’re fabulous, and an adorable person! Thank you for sharing your art with us! You brought me what no other artist I admire could ever do: you re-gave me the desire to draw.

Because your art is breathtaking,
Because your colorization is fantastic
Because your prospects are incredible
Because your style is beautiful
Because your art and you are luminous

So yes, I will never say enough, but thank you so much. From the bottom of my heart. Your art inspires me enormously. And at a time when I am lost in my life, re-finding the drawing is so important to me. I may not yet be satisfied with what I create, but I am happy to draw. Glad to have found you. I wish you a happy birthday and all the happiness of the world!! 💖 \O/

Sheith!!!

I’m not really satisfied with this one but (╥╯θ╰╥)

I never mentioned this on my other edits but it also applies there: If you want a different flag version (An example is I used the gay flag here and you like it but want the bi flag instead) I am down to change the background! I am also down for ship requests!

Also the gay flag has such sharp colors and hurt my eyes (๑• - •`๑) I never realized how bright the rainbow truly was….

Anyway, per normal, Feel free to use but do credit me ヽ(*´∀`)ノ

(( I used to be so fixated on Traditional artsu. It was already a while that I was able to receive a tablet as a gift from my folks. ;w;’’  So like it was a while before I adjusted to the tablet. And tbh, it was fun! As long as you have fun while doing the things you love, you’ll get there eventually, I believe. ;w;b I wouldn’t call it hard, like SUPER DIFFICULT. But it’s just time. You just need time and patience. You can’t be a noob today then suddenly a master 2 hours later. Just be patient. We’ll get there eventually. We’ll get there. ;w;b ))

HC’S DIGITAL ART TIMELINE (NO ONE ASKED FOR HUHUH):

• 2009-2010 was tabletless, I used MSPaint as a drawing program. It was the only one available in our compy. STill doodling OCs and sheets.

• 2011, had the tablet but no art program so I stick with MSPaint but still it was quite a challege to adjust to it. Still drawing OCs.

• 2012, installed Photoshop since a club at school gave us trial editions to practice photo editing but I used it for artsu doodling LOL ANYWAYS I got the hang of things, sorta, and I was pretty emo for some reason I kept drawing dark, sad, things. lol. All of my charas were so anime-ish and slender and long. Both my females and males have the same bodies except the former had boobs lol. Have multiple fandoms of the mainstream kind during this time. lol. I draw OCs a lot during this time. But super random.

2013, doodling of chara sheets commenced and I entered SNK fandom heavily like officially -by doing fanart for them- and stuff, but I fell down from the fandom and never came back up lol. Well I do tend to resurface from time to time. <XD

2014, started giving better art trades? Tho I still am not satisfied with the way I color. Horrible coloring I tell you. Still animu-ish style. Generic, for me at least. OTL HIGHLIGHTS EVERYWHERE?!?!

2015, Started experimenting on the eyes. And using of thick lines instead of thin ones. Tried to develop that style. But still switches from that one to the old anime-ish one. My problem is the coloring still tbh. I have no final coloring technique. Inconsistent.

2016, Sitting comfortably with the style I experimented making on last 2015. Coloring’s getting more comfy too so I adjusted with it. Now changing coloring of hair and skin. Lessens highlights. Only they eyes get highlights lol. Sometimes the hair.

2017, UM, IDK, IF ITS BETTER BUT I THINK MY STYLE’S DEGRADING LOL CUZ I KEPT HAVING OFF SESSIONS FROM THE COMPY NOW SO LESS TIME TO PRACTICE. EVEN WITH TRADITIONAL STUFF. IM GOMEN, BUT YOU KNOW, LIFE HAPPENS. But still, highlights are focused now on the eyes, and when I make that tomato-blush effect on peeps.

loveiruy  asked:

Maybe someone already ask you but.. what kind of supplies do you use to draw and how is the process? I just love your art and I'm little curious =] Okay awesome bye!

Supplies

  • Paintbrushes of all sizes to paint
  • Thin black pens to draw the lines
  • One white marker for the light effects
  • Big black markers for some black surfaces and onomatopeias
  • One thin red pen for some details
  • A thin lead pencil (I’m not sure how you call it in english) for the sketches
  • A rubber/eraser/whatever because nobody is perfect
  • Watercolor. yellow, light blue, red, pink, white (most important), orange, green, black, and the last one always changes. Here it’s dark blue but I can add brown or “sand” etc. Depends what I’m working on.
  • A tissue for surplus of water, to clean the paintbrushes and to stamp/add some effects directly on paper
  • Basic paper because I’m cheap

Process

Note: everyone’s process is different because, well, every artist is different. For example, I’m very at ease and can be considered very fast, so I can do things like this in 2 minutes…

…without thinking or preparing or calculating etc. It’s just part of my “style”: fast, impulsive and messy. Also stupid.

But here is how I do when I have to work on something somewhat more complicated:

First, sketches. If it’s necessary I mark the bending points in a body and do the basic drawing stuff with all the geometry (I don’t know the art vocabulary in english)

Proportion tip:

Top of the head to waist = waist to under the feet

Ps: this law does not apply to Karlie Kloss

…Sorry.

OKAY NEXT. After all that I add some details and correct the potential mistakes.

Note: taking breaks helps to see the obvious proportions mistakes when you come back to your work.

Once my sketch is finished, I simply draw it again with the thin black pens.

After erasing the sketch, I start painting. First, the flat tint, my “starting colors”. I don’t add anything else.

Note: Starting by the lighter colors is always better. I personally always start by the skin when I draw white people.

After that, I add the shadows, lightning effects if there’s any, the details… And I scan the whole thing.

I have to “clean” it because scanners destroy quality, so a tour to PS or in my case Photofiltre (I AM CHEAP) and a little toying around with the contrasts aaand I am done.

I hope your curiosity is satisfied! :)

@cubularmonoxide submitted:

Sprites of the new floe triplet babs. You never really added colors to them, so I added my own based on how I interpreted them~

The most difficult part was probably Pointy’s petals. I’m not 100% satisfied with the topmost petals but hey it’s cool

((Aaa thank you! I am getting so many nice things in one day and you really nailed them despite how few pixels Flowey’s sprite actually has and it looks great! Don’t worry about colors, it’s nice to see how differently people interpret them!

Honestly, for everyone who’s making these cool things, here’s a tiny non-canon doodle!))

i. My hands are curled into tiny fists and purple
is my favorite color, so why the fuck not?

ii. My mom always told me if I was gonna do
anything, I might as well hit the ground running
and I will I will I will maybe for once I will make
her proud of me.

iii. I am an animal caught in a trap and I swear
on my whole entire life that I will bite the smile right off of
your face if you try to get the razor blade out
of my heart.

iv. I am not steel but I pray every night for God to
renew the armor I keep picking apart, my hands are
never satisfied with breaking just once and I’m hellbent on tearing
myself into a million different pieces.

v. Shhh, be very quiet. Please please please
I’m trying to hear the reasons why I should still try
despite all of my failures.

vi. My hands still have your blood on them,
and I never meant to hurt you. Red is an awful color and
I’m afraid that my biggest regret is stained on my fingertips.
