i wrote an essay on my labyrinth feels and make a graphic to go with it
the way Sarah says “you have no power over me” at the end of labyrinth is SO IMPORTANT. she says it not as a decree that breaks his power over her, but like it’s a realization; it’s coming to a conclusion that he is already aware of. Because, really, what has Jareth been doing this whole movie but trying to prevent her from realizing this? He intimidates her, mocks her, threatens her, distracts her, and ultimately begs her: “just fear me, love me, do as I say…” all (except the last) empty attempts to convince her of his power, and her own inferiority. And when he does beg, his desperation becomes obvious enough for her to figure out his game, that he has no power over her and never did, game over, Sarah 1 Jareth 0.
And you can totally see this “f UCK DAMN SHE WAS NOT SUPPOSED TO FIGURE THAT OUT“ on jareth’s face just before he disappears; people make jareth out to be this Cool Sauve Villain but the thing is that he’s trying to come off that way. he is actually kind of ridiculous; he’s running around desperately trying to impress this 15-year-old-girl who’s beating him at his own game and he is failing. and that’s great. labyrinth is great. labyrinth is a coming-of-age story about a teenage girl defeating the man who’s trying to bully her into submission by seeing right through his constructed facade of power, and calling him out on it.
I like labyrinth because it has wonderful, bizzare special effects and horrible musical numbers and quirky characters and is a Cool Vintage Fantasy Movie. I love labyrinth because when i first saw this movie it sucked me in by being weird and endearing and then it said to my 15-year-old-identifying-with-sarah-self “YOUR WILL IS STRONG AND YOUR KINGDOM IS GREAT; NEVER LET ANYONE MAKE YOU BELIEVE YOU ARE NOT POWERFUL.”
I keep getting in trouble for my pic spams - a couple people were upset about JDM this morning. So this is a warning. I am getting ready to do my final pic spam, this time of David Haydn-Jones as requested. If you do not want to be bombarded with endless posts from me (although there are not that many) please turn notifications off.
Summary: Emma Swan is struggling as an actress. All seems lost until she manages to swing a spot on Kings and Queens, the most popular Medieval TV Show of all time. But here’s the catch: Emma hates being in love, and acting it is proving more tricky than she first thought. Her whole world is about to change, especially working alongside her new and mysterious co-star Killian Jones. It’s been so long since Emma has opened her heart to anyone. Could she start now?
Rating: T. But there is a chapter later in the fan fiction which blurs the lines a little. Just letting you know! Apart from that, no other warnings.
Author’s notes: First of all, this is for the @captainswanbigbang! It was SO much fun to do, and I’ve loved every minute of it, even though it seemed impossible at stages.
I’d like to thank my beta, @electrictoes and my cheerleader @holdmecloseandfast. They are AMAZING and I wouldn’t have been able to do this without them. Seriously. There probably wouldn’t even be a first chapter.
I’d also like to thank my brilliant artist, @lucythemarauder, who has created some amazing art for this story, and really brought them to life. So check her out! And check out her other art as well!
So, there it is. I hope you like it!
The sun is bright. It streams through the window and bounces off the crystal light, casting a kaleidoscope of colours around the room.
Emma Swan sits at her computer, fanning herself with an old magazine. The August heat is unbearable, even though she’s opened every window in her house. The gentle breeze wafting through the rooms does nothing to soothe her burning skin.
She watches rainbows grow and shrink as the crystal lampshade spins in the breeze. The patterns are pretty against her wooden floor, but she’s not really appreciating them as much as she normally would. Instead, she sits with her chin resting on the heel of her hand, eyes glazed over as the other hand fans mechanically.
Hi! I draw thing, just like you do! When you feel stuck in an artblock, how do you get out of it?
Stellar! Stage one is usually whining about it. Stage two is the feeling of impending doom in case I really have lost the ability to draw altogether. Stage three is punching myself pragmatically in the shut up and then sitting down to make something even if it’s shit and I’m shit and I hate it. Because keeping your pen on the page is a good thing. Stage four is still having no ideas, so I go to cafes a lot to sit and think and I draw animals I find on google images. Stage five is enjoying it again and remembering that creativity is tidal; it has its natural ebbs and flows, so feeling stuck at times is a given. Lather rinse repeat etc
Fable Quotes and Sentences Masterlist Meme PART ONE
Send me a ☬ and I’ll generate a number between 1 and 671 for what my muse will say to yours! Or, if you’re brave, you can send me a sentence from the list and my muse will react to it!
Disclaimer: With the help of friends (you know who you are!) and a lot of hard work, I have composed a list of several hundred quotable sentences from the Fable game series. All quotes are taken from the first three installments. The next part will include quotes from the Journey as well as the novels and e-books written by Peter David. Once I am able to get my hands on Fable Legends, you can bet I’ll make a third installment to the meme then too! For now, please enjoy the quotes from the first three games.
