i actually made about 4 different versions but i liked this one best

1. About this Journal Page: I usually add this on the first page, it’s sort of like the alpha because it explains the things that i plan to do w/ my journal. I add “Dear reader,… Love, Me” and script my name + heaps of doodles.

2. Birthday Special and Etc. Bonanza: This page is a list of people’s birthday and other special occasions where either list it down or make huge tables similar to a legit calendar. Doodles make this 10x better.

3. Favorites of the Month: I love doing this because it feels like I can actually reminisce the things that i love about the month. I do this in sketches and paint it with watercolors because watercolor makes everything 100x better.

4. Things I love about the season: Frankly speaking, we only have 2 “seasons” in my country so that’s practically just rainy and dry. And since I am desperately in love with summer, I dedicated a list of things I love about it.

5. The Huge Movie list: This movie list is meant to be a sort-of “reacts” and “ratings” kind of thing because i always love rating the movies that I’ve binge watched.

6. The Moody Playlist: I shuffle my tunes and seek for beautiful tracks and turn them into themed playlist. I think this is perfect if you have a spotify account because you can later on make a legit playlist.

7. Tick it off: This is quite typical tbh: the to-do-list page. The page which makes your journal a bona fide journal. I often times write down my to-do-list with boxes so that i can just tick off when i’m done.

8. Bucket list Version 2.0: Also a classic, you can add a little twist to your bucket list by turning them into sketches instead of the old, lame bullet-ed list sort of thing. Bonus: you can add how old, how you want to look, etc.

9. Thoughts in a Bullet: I do this to write down with ease the bothersome thoughts. I just write it down either in phrases or sentences. Thoughts in a bullet is perfect for calming down and easing the anxiety.

10. The Sunday’s best: Sunday’s best is actually the page i dedicate for when I’m chilling. I practically just let my thoughts wander and write it down in a page. I either make a playlist for sunday, how i want my sunday to be, quick sketches of my bedroom, and tv series i binge-watched that day. Sunday’s best is practically just a chill page and you’re free to do whatever you want to do with it.

11. This Week’s Bake, Blend, Stir and Fry: I honestly just call it that way because it sounds cooler but the gist is that page is meant to be your Recipe of the week sort of thing. If you’re a person with a heart for cooking, then this page is for you.

12. The Featured Pet: I love making this  page because I can actually add my pets in my journal!! I’ll sketch them and describe them and just list down the reasons why I love them. Some of the stuff i write are: name, age of description, color, animal, breed, favorite food, behavior, personality, when it barks, etc!!!

13. Quick Urban Sketches: This journal page idea is something to do when you’re feeling the sun and you want to go outside and bathe yourself with it. You practically just sketch heaps of beautiful buildings, strangers, shrines, etc and paint it using a watercolor (i do it this way, you can do it in your own way too). And then describe it in a short phrase, sentence, or maybe even a paragraph. This is perfect if you’re an outdoor person who loves the sun ~

14. This Week’s Highlights: This is quite similar to favorites of the month however it’s for the week plus it’s not only your favorites. I actually like doing the highlight page because i want to remember all the things that happened to me for the whole time i was having this journal.

15. Dear Elle,: Elle does not exist. I don’t even know anybody with the name Elle. I just dedicate a page for her because I feel like I’m talking to a friend. No, she’s not an imaginary friend. I think the things I write in my dear elle page is mostly directed to me. In dear elle, i write down with all my heart the things that I'am afraid of, my flaws, insecurities, anxiety and I usually just sum it up with a nice positive reminder.

16. The Botanical Garden Dream: Actually this is just a page dedicated for my favorite flowers that I’d love to have and plant in my garden one day. I usually just make this in a garden-looking way so there’s not much words but sketches and doodles. And then i color it using my colored pencils because it’s easier to work with pencils for botanical tbh.

17. 100 Resons to be Happy About: I made this on my first journal (that’s when I was 11) and every time i read it, i still can’t help but smile. This page is a major help for struggling people out there. Honestly, it’s just a page filled with heaps of things i love and i write them down in different sizes, orientation and fonts so that it looks sort of like a mess but not really.

18. *insert TV Series*’s Lessons: I did this on Modern Family and I swear to god this is like the most favorite thing I do about the lesson sort-of thing because I just !! I often times divide it in characters like: Here’s for Haley, Alex, Luke, Phil, etc. And I’ll apply them to myself and it helps out trust me!!

19. 17 Things I’ve Learned Before Turning 17: This is perfect because I can actually look back and see how much I’ve grown. You can do it too but you can use your age instead like if you’re 12 it can be 12 things I’ve learned before turning 12. Something like that.

20. The Dreamy Backpack Adventures: The Dreamy Backpack Adventures is actually just the list of places that I want to visit before I die!! I often times get my inspo from tumblr and do a mini research and write it down on that page too.
21. 10 Things That Make Me Happy: This is quite similar to 100 reasons to be happy about but this time it’s more of a me. I just write this down when I’m totally feeling myself and stuff like that. I got the inspo from the anonymous chain message going on in tumblr so yep.

22. The Ultimate Road Trip Guide: I make this page because I’m one heck of a huge fan of road trips! I often times just make a playlist, write a to-bring-list, make my outfit ideas, and food list kind of thing that i shall do for the whole trip. I also sketch my pillows hehe!

23. Other Versions of Sunshine: I actually made something like this and posted it here, can you remember? It’s just a bunch of lovely little things that remind you of sunshine. I write this down when it’s a sunny saturday and it’s the golden hour (4-5pm).

24. Little Things to be Happy About: I also made this and posted it in here. It’s quite similar to Other Versions of Sunshine but this time, it’s more like a little bit of less descriptive. I suggest making this before doing the Other Versions of Sunshine. This will honestly pump you up a bit.

25. Reminders to Myself: These are cute little positive things that i write down so that i can sort of just read it when I’m having a sad day. I add cute little doodles around too. To make this 10x cuter, i add little animal or cupcake or plant doddle with this bubble reminders and stuff. You can also scan this and post them in tumblr.

26. Sketches: I don’t really think I need to explain this. These are just cute sketches of everything: your house, neighbor’s house, your friends, strangers, etc.

27. The Pressed Flowers & Leaves Page: I’m pretty sure your journal will be a thousand times better if you press some flowers on another book and tape it using washi on your journal. You can dedicate a whole page with captions (what’s the plant, where is it from, when it was picked and pressed, initial color, etc) for your pressed flowers. Perfect for future gift ideas.

28. The Ultimate Picnic Guide: The Ultimate Picnic Guide is also quite similar to The Ultimate Road Trip Guide. I sketch my little cute picnic idea and add colors (using watercolor, still) and then i label it and point it out. Like, the sort of food I will eat, the colors of the blanket, the books I will read, the outfit that i plan to wear, the basket i will bring and stuff. It’s honestly better to sketch it than just write it down. But you can always just do it your way.

29. Paint and Palette Test: I think most artists use a separate sheet of paper for this but honestly the palette test is one of my most favorite thing about painting and making art. I keep it in my journal and test the colors that might match. This is really perfect for future art references and also nice if you’re having an art block + don’t know the heck what you should do. This palette test page could help.

30. A Love Letter: A love letter is sort-of a self-project i made because i love to write letters to people. I will make letters for my friend, my crush, my mom, my dad, and other relatives when i feel the urge to do so. I usually never give them out because well, that’s the sole purpose of writing it- never giving it out. So yeah, a love letter is perfect for when you just want to pour out your feelings over someone and you don’t want them to figure it out. EVER.

31. What I Want To Be: This one is just a goals of the day sort of thing. You can also do it in a goals of the week or month. :-)

32. Things I Love About *your favorite artist*: This can either be a singer, painter, dancer, etc. I honestly just do this to express my love for my faves.

33. The Skin Care Guide: Every time I purchase new things to spice up the softness of my face, I’ll sketch the cute little bottles and facial stuff that i purchase and describe it and write my reviews.

34. The All-time Page (fave books, music, etc): This is a little classic. I basically just write down my all-time favorite books, art, painters, movies, and more.

35. The Book Trip: You can google up some nice book recommendations or from good reads and then you write it down. You could also try to write your expectations and stuff.

36. The Movie Binge: This is quite similar to the Book Trip but this time I write down cute movie recommendations for future binge-watching. Yay!

37. Dear Future/Past Me: I’m not sure if this is classic but I actually like doing this. I wrote a letter for myself 5 years ago and I opened it today and just wow, I was so surprised with how much I’ve grown. So if you practically like those things, you can add this to spice up your journal.

38. Dreamy Date: Practically just a list of things/quality that i want my future significant other to be. Or how my dream date will go. Or just practically the “date a person who..” kind of thing.

39. To Be Or Not To Be: It’s just a cute list of all the inspirational quotes i gather from everywhere. At times, I’ll sketch the figure/portrait of the person who said it and add a little thought bubble with the quote.

40. The Grocery List: Honestly, I just make a grocery list kind of thing because i love drawing goodies and food!! It’s more of a favorite page kind of thing but this time it’s filled with canned foods. You can also do this in bullet form.

41. The Fashionette 101: In other words: outfit page. This is where I sketch my #ootd or just the outfit inspos i get from tumblr. As you all know, i have a tag #ootd_insp. I sometimes sketch nice outfit ideas from there.

42. Cut It Out: The Cut it out is page is practically dedicated for magazine cut-outs. I have a lot of old magazines and art books that I’ve finished reading so instead of throwing them, I’ll just cut ‘em and paste on my journal.

43. Little Flaws I love About Me: This is also inspired by the chain anonymous message about loving yourself. You just practically just list down the cute little things you like about yourself.

44. List of Pets and Plants + Name Ideas: This is sort of like a keeping track page for all my pets and plants. I will also sketch and draw them when I feel like it. This is perfect with watercolor, jsyk. :-)

45. The Space Page: The Space Page is one of my most recent page where i just draw a lot of space stuff and all the planets and add cute little facts about it. I sometimes add glitters instead of painting them because planets are fab as heck.

46. Mini-Comic and The Everyday Adventures: Literally just a little comic strip about your everyday encounters. I made a similar one entitled “The Homey Adventures” and you can find it somewhere in my blog. You can divide it in four squares or depends on your own liking.

47. The Brunette and Grainy Pictures: If you have a lot of vintage, european-ish sort of stickers and cute little goodies, you can make a vintage page for that. You can fill it out with nice doodles of buses and pins and stamps, too.

48. Doodle page: This is entirely different from the sketch page because doodle page is a lot more chill and adorable. You can fill up a whole page or just half of it or maybe a quarter and add other sections if you want.

49. Poems: Yep, quite obvious, guys.

50. The “Why I love” Section: Some Why I love suggestions: tea, coffee, ice cream, your dog, color, food, etc. You can add a lot of details and images because the more detailed the better honestly.

so i made this post because even the laziest people in existence still have to study ha ha these are just some things i’ve been doing for my revision!

1. you don’t need to rewrite notes to memorise them

i know tons of people say that rewriting notes is a form of memory retention but honestly!!! i don’t have the energy/patience for that ha! for me, the best method to memorise things (especially content-heavy chapters/subjects) would be to record yourself talking. i don’t think this is especially catered to auditory learners, because i know for a fact that i’m not an auditory learner but this still works especially well for me so!!

i usually open up the voice recorder app and talk as if i’m teaching someone! i’d recommend you use a guidebook as reference and not the actual textbooks. guidebooks are more vague, so when you’re speaking about a particular point, you can sort of expand on the point given in the guidebook from your knowledge of the subject! this really helps for revision because you’re basically forced to remember things. you don’t necessarily need to replay your recordings. to me, the “recording” bit of this method is psychological, it makes me feel like i’m actually memorising and not just talking to myself haha.

this recording method is honestly one of the most helpful things i’ve ever started doing and i can do a more in-depth post on it if anyone asks haha

2. use different highlighters for different sections

i know literally everyone has been told this tip in their lifetime but honestly!!! it’s EXTREMELY helpful, especially if you want to do timelines for history! use different colours for things like dates, people, treaties, etc!
okay but one thing about this tip that’s sort of different from others is that when you highlight dates, highlight the entire event and not just the date! so for example, instead of highlighting “28 June 1919″, highlight “The Treaty of Versailles was signed on 28 June 1919.” that way, you know the WHOLE event and the date and you’ll be more likely to remember both!

i learnt this the hard way - i used to highlight dates by themselves (maybe i was just totally dumb) and i could NEVER remember what happened on the dates lmao

3. the internet is there for you

it’s a bad habit of mine, but being a very last-minute person, i ALWAYS have doubts even the night before exams. since it’s too late to actually contact anyone, i usually have to rely on the internet. the internet has a myriad of wonderful wonderful resources that are so incredibly useful!

some youtube channels that have helped me are khanacademy (literally anything), mathbff (math), keith hughes (history), j brierly (literature)

i also recommend watching documentaries (for history/social studies) because even though it’s a more in-depth version of what you have to learn, it’ll help you understand everything better + make your essay stand out :)

4. find a suitable study space

a good study space is probably the first thing you should ensure if you want to get anything done at all. i usually never study at home, simply because i’m always distracted by trivial things such as “i’m hungry, i’m gonna get food” or “i’m so tired i’m going to sleep for five minutes”.

when i started studying outside (usually at starbucks/the library), my productivity level increased so much it blew my mind a little. even though it’s a bit troublesome because you may not be completely sure what materials to bring, you’ll still get a lot done trust me on this lmao

5. always, always plan what you want to do

i find it really taxing to plan out my entire day down to the hour, so i usually just set a certain number of things i want to complete for that day, and just let things naturally flow from there.

for example, i write the things i want to do on my calendar (finish a set of math papers, read a chapter of lit, etc.) and then i just get everything done on that day w/o planning the exact time i’m going to do it! it makes things less stressful in my opinion :)

i’ve tried planning things by hour but it usually never works out so i just stopped doing it and honestly it’s not necessary! what’s important about planning is just knowing what you need to do and then getting it done.

6. handwrite your notes whenever you can

writing your notes by hand triggers your memory more effectively than typing them out. even though i’m tempted to type out notes since i’m the laziest person in existence, i still try (most of the time) to write notes because at the end of the day, you’ll be more proud of your handwritten notes than your boring typed out ones :)

7. study with people who usually do well

this is a rather…shady….method of learning but honestly!!! when you know how the top students function, you can learn from them as well!

i’ve discovered that top students usually perform so well because they review their content regularly, unlike people like me who wait three days before the exam to start cramming everything into my brain.

keep some pictures of your notes or some flashcards with you, so that when you have pockets of time (eg. waiting for a friend, waiting for the bus, etc), you can whip them out and start reviewing :)

these people also act as tutors, so you can clarify your doubts with them and it’ll be less awkward as compared to asking an actual teacher. i know i prefer asking classmates than teachers hahaha.

OKAY i hope this helped :-) please also reblog/like this if you’re a studyblr, i’m new to the community and i wanna follow more people!!

Inbox Rules:

1) I don’t do translations - Translations are not the focus of this blog, and since I receive so many of them, it is impossible to keep on top of. So for this reason, any translation requests in my inbox will be deleted from now on - no exceptions. I apologise for the inconvenience.

2) I will delete repeated questions - By this, I just mean that sometimes I have more than one of the same question in my inbox at the same time. So I will keep the question that was asked first, and delete any repeats within my inbox. So if I don’t specifically answer your question, but I release an answer with a similar question, you’ll know why I didn’t respond. However, if you still have something left unanswered, feel free to specify and send me another ask and I’ll do my best to respond.

3) I will link - If I receive a question that has been answered before, I will just do what I normally do and link to other posts that help to answer the question! So don’t worry if you ask something that has been asked before - I am more than happy to link you to the answer, since I know phone users especially can’t navigate my posts easily. ^^

4) Ask box only - If you have a Korean related question, please enquire through my ask box and not my messages. Thank you.

How long have you been studying Korean?

Honestly, not long! I’ve only been dabbling in the language since late October 2015.

Do you self study?

Yes. I try to dedicate at least four hours a week into learning grammar and vocabulary.

What is your native language?

My mother tongue is English!

What is your name?

Most people call me Elle (pronounced Ellie)! My real name is Emily.

Will you add audio to your study cards?

I did consider making audio for the pronunciation, however I came to the conclusion that the quantity of vocabulary I’m supplying each week is already being juggled on top of university work. So making videos or audio would only increase the work and provide difficult to keep up. Although, I’m not completely dismissing the idea, so I’ll see what happens!

Will you add romanisation to you study cards?

I personally don’t think that romanisation is necessary, and quite often, it seems to be that learners can find it restrictive. This is mainly due to the fact that it can actually inhibit proper pronunciation and hinder reading fluency. Romanisation also has the habit of contradicting advanced pronunciation rules, and for these reasons, I don’t like to include it. I also had an open discussion with most of you about adding it - and it seems that a majority would dislike me to include romanisation. I apologise for the inconvenience.

Am I allowed to save the study card you’ve made?

Of course. That’s why I make them! ;) However, I do not allow the re-uploading of any of my flashcards without first asking permission. I put time and effort into these study cards, and it’s upsetting to see my work posted without proper credit.

Why did you start learning Korean?

I love language, and have dabbled in many! I decided to learn a language completely different to anything I’ve learnt before, so I picked Korean randomly. I fell in love with it, and from there I’ve found a secret passion for Korean drama!

What other languages have you studied/know?

I have studied German, French, Russian, Japanese, and have recently just started to learn Danish. Although, Korean has been the most fun!

anonymous asked:

What are other books/series that you'd recommend that are in the same vein as Animorphs?

Honestly, your ask inspired me to get off my butt and finally compile a list of the books that I reference with my character names in Eleutherophobia, because in a lot of ways that’s my list of recommendations right there: I deliberately chose children’s and/or sci-fi stories that deal really well with death, war, dark humor, class divides, and/or social trauma for most of my character names.  I also tend to use allusions that either comment on Animorphs or on the source work in the way that the names come up.

That said, here are The Ten Greatest Animorphs-Adjacent Works of Literature According to Sol’s Totally Arbitrary Standards:

1. A Ring of Endless Light, Madeline L’Engle

  • This is a really good teen story that, in painfully accurate detail, captures exactly what it’s like to be too young to really understand death while forced to confront it anyway.  I read it at about the same age as the protagonist, not that long after having suffered the first major loss in my own life (a friend, also 14, killed by cancer).  It accomplished exactly what a really good novel should by putting words to the experiences that I couldn’t describe properly either then or now.  This isn’t a light read—its main plot is about terminal illness, and the story is bookended by two different unexpected deaths—but it is a powerful one.

2. The One and Only Ivan, K.A. Applegate

  • This prose novel (think an epic poem, sort of like The Iliad, only better) obviously has everything in it that makes K.A. Applegate one of the greatest children’s authors alive: heartbreaking tragedy, disturbing commentary on the human condition, unforgettably individuated narration, pop culture references, and poop jokes.  Although I’m mostly joking when I refer to Marco in my tags as “the one and only” (since this book is narrated by a gorilla), Ivan does remind me of Marco with his sometimes-toxic determination to see the best of every possible situation when grief and anger allow him no other outlet for his feelings and the terrifying lengths to which he will go in order to protect his found family.

3. My Teacher Flunked the Planet, Bruce Coville

  • Although the entire My Teacher is an Alien series is really well-written and powerful, this book is definitely my favorite because in many ways it’s sort of an anti-Animorphs.  Whereas Animorphs (at least in my opinion) is a story about the battle for personal freedom and privacy, with huge emphasis on one’s inner identity remaining the same even as one’s physical shape changes, My Teacher Flunked the Planet is about how maybe the answer to all our problems doesn’t come from violent struggle for personal freedoms, but from peaceful acceptance of common ground among all humans.  There’s a lot of intuitive appeal in reading about the protagonists of a war epic all shouting “Free or dead!” before going off to battle (#13) but this series actually deconstructs that message as blind and excessive, especially when options like “all you need is love” or “no man is an island” are still on the table.

4. Moon Called, Patricia Briggs

  • I think this book is the only piece of adult fiction on this whole list, and that’s no accident: the Mercy Thompson series is all about the process of adulthood and how that happens to interact with the presence of the supernatural in one’s life.  The last time I tried to make a list of my favorite fictional characters of all time, it ended up being about 75% Mercy Thompson series, 24% Animorphs, and the other 1% was Eugenides Attolis (who I’ll get back to in my rec for The Theif).  These books are about a VW mechanic, her security-administrator next door neighbor, her surgeon roommate, her retail-working best friend and his defense-lawyer boyfriend, and their cybersecurity frenemy.  The fact that half those characters are supernatural creatures only serves to inconvenience Mercy as she contemplates how she’s going to pay next month’s rent when a demon destroyed her trailer, whether to get married for the first time at age 38 when doing so would make her co-alpha of a werewolf pack, what to do about the vampires that keep asking for her mechanic services without paying, and how to be a good neighbor to the area ghosts that only she can see.

5. The Thief, Megan Whalen Turner

  • This book (and its sequel A Conspiracy of Kings) are the ones that I return to every time I struggle with first-person writing and no Animorphs are at hand.  Turner does maybe the best of any author I’ve seen of having character-driven plots and plot-driven characters.  This book is the story of five individuals (with five slightly different agendas) traveling through an alternate version of ancient Greece and Turkey with a deceptively simple goal: they all want to work together to steal a magical stone from the gods.  However, the narrator especially is more complicated than he seems, which everyone else fails to realize at their own detriment.

6. Homecoming, Cynthia Voight

  • Critics have compared this book to a modern, realistic reimagining of The Boxcar Children, which always made a lot of sense to me.  It’s the story of four children who must find their own way from relative to relative in an effort to find a permanent home, struggling every single day with the question of what they will eat and how they will find a safe place to sleep that night.  The main character herself is one of those unforgettable heroines that is easy to love even as she makes mistake after mistake as a 13-year-old who is forced to navigate the world of adult decisions, shouldering the burden of finding a home for her family because even though she doesn’t know what she’s doing, it’s not like she can ask an adult for help.  Too bad the Animorphs didn’t have Dicey Tillerman on the team, because this girl shepherds her family through an Odysseus-worthy journey on stubbornness alone.

7. High Wizardry, Diane Duane

  • The Young Wizards series has a lot of good books in it, but this one will forever be my favorite because it shows that weird, awkward, science- and sci-fi-loving girls can save the world just by being themselves.  Dairine Callahan was the first geek girl who ever taught me it’s not only okay to be a geek girl, but that there’s power in empiricism when properly applied.  In contrast to a lot of scientifically “smart” characters from sci-fi (who often use long words or good grades as a shorthand for conveying their expertise), Dairine applies the scientific method, programming theory, and a love of Star Wars to her problem-solving skills in a way that easily conveys that she—and Diane Duane, for that matter—love science for what it is: an adventurous way of taking apart the universe to find out how it works.  This is sci-fi at its best.

8. Dr. Franklin’s Island, Gwyneth Jones

  • If you love Animorphs’ body horror, personal tragedy, and portrayal of teens struggling to cope with unimaginable circumstances, then this the book for you!  I’m only being about 80% facetious, because this story has all that and a huge dose of teen angst besides.  It’s a loose retelling of H.G. Wells’s classic The Island of Doctor Moreau, but really goes beyond that story by showing how the identity struggles of adolescence interact with the identity struggles of being kidnapped by a mad scientist and forcibly transformed into a different animal.  It’s a survival story with a huge dose of nightmare fuel (seriously: this book is not for the faint of heart, the weak of stomach, or anyone who skips the descriptions of skin melting and bones realigning in Animorphs) but it’s also one about how three kids with a ton of personal differences and no particular reason to like each other become fast friends over the process of surviving hell by relying on each other.

9. Sideways Stories from Wayside School, Louis Sachar

  • Louis Sachar is the only author I’ve ever seen who can match K.A. Applegate for nihilistic humor and absurdist horror layered on top of an awesome story that’s actually fun for kids to read.  Where he beats K.A. Applegate out is in terms of his ability to generate dream-like surrealism in these short stories, each one of which starts out hilariously bizarre and gradually devolves into becoming nightmare-inducingly bizarre.  Generally, each one ends with an unsettling abruptness that never quite relieves the tension evoked by the horror of the previous pages, leaving the reader wondering what the hell just happened, and whether one just wet one’s pants from laughing too hard or from sheer existential terror.  The fact that so much of this effect is achieved through meta-humor and wordplay is, in my opinion, just a testament to Sachar’s huge skill as a writer.

10. Magyk, Angie Sage

  • As I mentioned, the Septimus Heap series is probably the second most powerful portrayal of the effect of war on children that I’ve ever encountered; the fact that the books are so funny on top of their subtle horror is a huge bonus as well.  There are a lot of excellent moments throughout the series where the one protagonist’s history as a child soldier (throughout this novel he’s simply known as “Boy 412″) will interact with his stepsister’s (and co-protagonist’s) comparatively privileged upbringing.  Probably my favorite is the moment when the two main characters end up working together to kill a man in self-defense, and the girl raised as a princess makes the horrified comment that she never thought she’d actually have to kill someone, to which her stepbrother calmly responds that that’s a privilege he never had; the ensuing conversation strongly implies that his psyche has been permanently damaged by the fact that he was raised to kill pretty much from infancy, but all in a way that is both child-friendly and respectful of real trauma.

Hot Potato

This is for everyone in the awesome Sterek writing group 4. And especially to @seanconneraille  whose initial prompt: Potato, led to this ridiculousness. Seriously. There were tons of awesome prompts, but the heart wants what it wants.  Also a special shout out to @artemis69 who said they should plant the potato. I wrote this in about half an hour and it’s completely unbetaed. So all mistakes are mine. A cleaned up version is now on AO3

They’ve been together about three years now, living together for one, and Stiles thinks they’re  okay. He has a job as a freelance programmer, which involves a little bit of travelling, and a lot of working from home in his underpants, only putting a shirt on for skype calls. Derek is a history teacher at Beacon Hills High School, which should not be as hot as it is. Fortunately it turns out that Stiles finds 28yr old teacher!Derek with sweater vests and  blazers with elbow patches even more attractive than the leather wearing Alpha!werewolf badass that first caught his eye in the preserve all those years ago.

The thing is, Derek doesn’t need to be a badass anymore, at least, not in the way he used to. The Nemeton has been dealt with, and the pack is flourishing, Beacon Hills is no longer a hell hole and so now he’s a badass in other, more subtle ways. He’s a badass gardner, who has lovingly nurtured a little plot of fruits and vegetables in their backyard. Then there are his badass knitting skills, (he made Stiles a kickass pair of mittens last winter) and don’t get Stiles started on the cooking, okay? No. Really. Don’t get him started. The cooking isn’t actually that great, Stiles does all the cooking, but Derek can mix a mean cocktail, which means their powers combined result in some truly awesome, if slightly blurry, mealtime memories.

Anyway, it isn’t often that Stiles is forced to work the weekend, but today the shit has hit the fan, and he doesn’t have any other choice. When Derek gets home on Friday evening, wearing the blue sweater vest that brings out his eyes and the charcoal blazer with the elbow patches, Stiles can only stare up at him from his desk tragically and mourn the loss of what could have been.

Thoughts on the new gaming vid? They seemed so happy and cute and lighting has improved everything A++ ^_^

(faceapp)

  • 2 seconds in and i’m already shook i can’t believe this is real we are literally looking into their new house they are literally actually filming in a new HOUSE and it’s all just too much to process
  • phil sitting cross legged on the same old futon and fixing the tetris lights and balancing them and the pacman light on cardboard boxes is all too cute his enthusiasm is too much for me and dan definitely thinks it’s so cute too and this whole intro is just so soft
  • i love that phil owns up to the fact that this was his idea while dan is tryna go for his traditional ugh this is too stupid and vapid and too mainstream and not creative enough shtick. phil giving no fucks about a got damn quality threshold is my kink
  • when phil is attempting to take his neutral expression selfie and slightly pouts and he and dan giggle (i’m being generous w that term bc dan’s was more like a squawk tbh) at the exact same moment i just smiled so hard. they’re so cute. and they’re both apparently kind of uncomfortable w the notion of like trying to look sultry in photos which is why that pouty expression made them laugh immediately, and also is a good precursor to the whole discussion that comes later about phil’s ladybird selfie
  • dan’s look into the camera at 2:13 gave me lifeeeeee i like that he’s trying to shade phil for taking forever to get his fuckin selfie but instead he has this ever so subtle up tilt to his lips bc he can’t completely hide his smile ughaierjoaierj
  • omg underrated discussion in this video: at 2:26 once phil has finally succeeded in taking the selfie he turns to dan and says “i look alright there” but w the intonation of a question, like he’s literally asking dan for affirmation that he looks good and  not only that but he full on turns to look at dan and gauge his reaction and that felt so special and genuine to me??? like??? not a sort of thing i would expect to see tbh? and in general this video was obvi silly and just a bit of fun but also i thought the level of feedback they were giving each other on their photos and the way they were reacting was all so,,, warm and comfortable and surprisingly open. in this instance i’m also just frustrated bc dan was about to say something in response to phil asking dan if he looks alright, but he cuts himself off. he says ‘that’s an excep—’ and it def sounds like he was gonna say exceptional or exceptionally and i need to know what his thought was. i also like that the thought he interrupts himself with is about phil still having slight crazy eyes. we’ve talked about phil’s own explanation for his wide-eyed deer-in-headlights expressions in selfies a bit on this blog. according to him, he resorts to doing that bc having his photo taken makes him uncomfortable, so it was cute to me that dan noted that phil still did a little bit of the wide eyes without giving any context for why he was pointing it out bc it’s just an understood thing that they obvi have talked about a lot
  • 3:14 dan’s horrified and squeaky “what have they done to your face?” is so good. it’s just. so good. he sounds so outraged that they’ve fucked w phil’s face i lov it
  • 3:20 is the besttttttttt. this is the exchange where dan teases phil for being old and i love everything about it i love how dan made that comment without even thinking which sort of suggests that teasing phil for being old is just a regular/habitual thing and i love the way phil reacted bc it wasn’t rly irritated or even mock irritation in the end. instead he just played along w dan’s joke and accepted it and the whole exchange was so warmmmmmmm and comfortableeeeeee and flirtyyyyyyyyy and it reminds me of a few other comments that dan has made here and there that allude to their age gap and they’re always v cute and gentle teasing and it’s just so good
  • 3:42 they’re talking about the ‘old’ selfie and 1. dan is captivated and i can literally see him contemplating his future w phil lmao and 2. phil talking about joey graceffa and calling him good-looking w a blatant pause before he said that, making me wonder if he was going to use a word that was a bit more emphatic than “good-looking” either way i’m into it and then there’s a blatant jump cut and i’m wondering if they had a lil side conversation about joey being cute lol 3. phil is still looking at dan basically every time he makes a comment and it’s rly surprising but lovely 4. dan needed to come in w that compliment about old phil rocking current phil’s fringe and how cool he looks :)
  • here’s dan howell caught right in the act of contemplating growing old w phil:
  • bless them for calling out how dumb the concept of a “female” filter is. also dan’s once again violent reaction to phil in the female filter is so cute and funny i love how incensed he is with the whole concept of anything being different about phil’s face
  • 5:36 dan looking at phil in the male filter and saying “you look so average” in such a disappointed tone is rly one of the best fucking things i’ve ever seen in my life. i’ve often thought about dan’s attraction to phil being based in some of the things that are most striking about his appearance. for example he always talks about how black phil’s hair is and how pale his skin is and back in the day he obvi left that infamous comment on phil’s dailybooth about how blue his eyes are and i feel like dan is probs drawn to these features that are just,,, extreme,,, and i love that even a slight change to phil’s jawline/face shape made dan think phil looked decidedly more average precisely bc what he loves about phil’s face are all the things that aren’t average at all!!!! i’m emotional!!
  • phil was so hype to see all of dan’s ones!!!! i’m crying!!!!! the way he was doing his hee-hee laughs and bouncing up and down quite literally and like hitting his hands on the table and saying things like i wanna be friends w him instead of you and ‘i wanna see old danny! old danny slice!!!’ like calm down mate!!!!! ur cute!!! we know u think dan is cute!!! y do u love every single version of him so much!!!! when he sees the old one he immediately says he likes it and compliments it!!!!! when he sees the old one on the daniel x dream pic he calls him cute!!!!!! and then makes this face at dan while dan looks at it!!!!!!
  • help!!!!
  • dan talking about embracing makeup was amazing and phil being totally down with it and immediately suggesting a smoky eye look and consulting some tutorials was also amazing and i hope thats something they’ve discussed before tbh
  • dan @ manly dan: ‘i mean i would.’ nice. dancest is real and it’s right before our eyes ppl
  • 8:28 dan saying he hates his current profile picture was so surprising and lovely when he gave his reason—it doesn’t reflect his natural curls. i’m honestly so pleased to hear that he views the natural hair as such an important change for him that he wants his display pic (something we know he spends way too much time thinking about and therefore treats as an incredibly important thing) to reflect this shift
  • 9:05 ahhhh the controversial dan reactions to phil’s ladybird selfie. here’s the thing. i think when dan says it’s a “really cringe selfie” he’s talking about the discomfort they both feel about doing posed/sultry shots. he corrects himself after phil protests that it’s not cringe to saying it’s only slightly cringe instead of really cringe, and that he should’ve included an ironic (i hate dan’s use of the word ironic so much bc he often uses it when what he really means is “sarcastic” or, in this case, self-deprecating/humorous) caption. when phil then says that he did use a funny caption, dan basically entirely revokes his criticism and says that phil actually “nailed it” w the photo/caption combination. basically i think both of them get embarrassed about the idea of unabashedly posing in an attractive way for photos and since they’re so close dan feels that embarrassment for phil as well. i don’t think he was saying he actually dislikes the selfie or that phil looks bad or unattractive or anything negative about phil himself. the only comment i did find questionable was when he almost said that the smile filter was an improvement!!! it seemed weird when compared to how much he disliked all the alterations to phil’s face on the first picture lol but then he also made fun of it so i didn’t take it to mean that dan literally thought the filter is an improvement to phil’s real face, just that it was pretty remarkable how cleanly the filters worked on that particular selfie
  • overall: really liked this!!!!!!! such a good intro to the new office!!! such a warm and chill lil vid where they were mostly casual and just being so soft and flirty w each other and basically calling each other cute in creative ways whats not to love about that it was great

1.

One of the first things I learned in my freshman year is the absolute need to study every single day. Even if there is no big test or assignment around the corner, reviewing your classes daily is the only way to make sure you are strengthening your knowledge on whatever you are learning, as well as filling in any gaps on unknown material that was lectured before. For weeks (and months) I was certain that people who told me I needed to study every day were just very unorganized people or were frightening me on purpose. However, if you are taking a course heavy in information like Law, you will quickly understand that it will be very difficult to remember every single detail that was lectured in multiple subjects, on the long run – and, in the end, you are also tested on the small details and not only on the big overall scheme of each class. If I could go back to my first semester, I would really push myself harder and organize my days to be able to review my previous classes.

2.

Being a coffee hater throughout high school, I was always sure that I would never like the taste of it in my life. However, as soon as I got into my second year of college, I found out that the only way to survive a few of my classes was to drink an expresso beforehand. My addiction to coffee began as a need to survive. Now that I look back, my first year in college probably would have turned out better if I had more energy in class and while doing my assignments. However, I still try my hardest to never drink more than one cup a day – that really keeps my energy levels up, without creating addiction.

3.

One of the things no one told me before going to Law School was the ridiculous amount of money I would spend on textbooks every single semester. Each one of my classes requires one or two mandatory textbooks, plus statute law and a bunch of optional readings that most of the time you end up buying because they are nowhere to be found in the library. Also, since Law is constantly being developed and changed, buying second hand books is not the best idea - most of the legal references in those books are probably outdated.
I remember that in my first year of Law School I refused to buy most of the textbooks the professors required me to, and I tried my hardest to study only with my class notes. Well, guess what? That ended up, as expected, in poor grades. The problem with Law is that 50% of our grade is the result of how hard we work at home. In class the professor doesn’t lecture ALL of the material we need to learn; they just summarize it as best as they can and highlight a few important things that they find relevant. However, in the final exam, all those details and footnotes in the textbooks will prove really useful to solve the cases and if you didn’t invest in your textbooks in the beginning of your term, you will not be able to use that information in your answers, which really harms your grade.

4.

That takes me to the next point. For me, the best learning method is preparing all classes beforehand, be it lectures or discussion based classes. I only realized this in the end of my second year in college - and I think it makes a huge difference in your overall performance in class; if your professor uses the Socratic method to teach, preparing your classes thoroughly beforehand is absolutely essential!

Basically, if you anticipate most of what is going to be taught in your class, you will have most of the work done for that specific group of topics or information. By taking your own notes to class and completing them with what the information that the professor adds during the lecture, you will be able to reinforce your knowledge on the subject, finishing any incomplete arguments that you have written down and also letting you participate in class, asking questions on the thematic you’ve studied and discussing it with your professor and classmates. Also, preparing classes beforehand will let you organize your time better, scheduling a certain time to prepare a certain topic and/or chapter.

5.

Unfortunately, I found it almost impossible to prepare classes and do all of this homework while I was handwriting my notes. If I could turn back in time and change something during my time in college, I would certainly stop spending so much time making everything pretty and would start typing it all. I am a big fan of handwriting notes - I love pens, stationery and also the handwriting part in itself. However, when I started getting an excessive workload, insisting on handwriting all of my preparatory notes, completing them in class and also solve and summarize case law by hand was hurting my grades, my social life and my stress levels (and my hand, lol). I then had to make the hard decision to give up on all of my pretty stationery and start bringing my laptop to class.

I still handwrite a few notes, especially when I use the column method (which you can find more about here), but I am actually happy now that I have made the change – I can be much more productive and organized while saving a huge amount of time for all the other things I enjoy doing.

6.

Finally, and I think this is the most important piece of advice I can give you: some people enter college with a very specific mind-set on what they want to do with their lives. While you are reading this, there is a huge possibility that you have already thought about a certain career; maybe you are picking only the classes that you think will help down that career path, as well.

However, never ignore all the other options that will be laid out for you. I can personally speak about my own experience: when I entered Law School back when I was 18 (I am now 21), I had a very specific idea of what I wanted to accomplish after I graduated - I was sure I wanted to be a judge. As soon as I got into my second year and started studying the most basic principles of contract law, I was 100% sure that I had actually changed my mind, and that it was imperative to purse contract law. Then, in my 5th semester, I started studying Tax Law - I still remember thinking that Tax Law was it and I was then decided to pursue it for my master’s degree; but then, I was able to get an internship in a law firm, in the Intellectual Property Law department; and you know what? I changed my mind again

So it’s perfectly normal to change your mind along the way; you are not less worthy of college just because you are still not sure of what you want to do career wise. Also, changing majors is fine - it’s just a sign that you are progressing as a human being and as a student, that you were willing to embrace new opportunities and give up on something that would not make you happy. Just make sure that you do your research beforehand on different career paths and use all the opportunities that college gives you in order to learn new things and meet new people. Internships, and other short-termed opportunities like job-shadowing programs are great ways to understand if you fit in the specific area you are thinking of pursuing or if, in real life, it has nothing to do with you.

Lots of luck!

Top 6 Apps for Learning Mandarin Chinese

Last summer, while I was supposed to be studying French intensively, I accidentally started studying Mandarin instead. These things happen! The best thing about Mandarin compared to some other languages I’ve studied (specifically Persian and Korean) is that there are a huge number of resources available to help learners, including a lot of very well-designed apps. After months of obsessively checking the iTunes store for the best apps and trying them out, these are my favorite six (plus a few more worth mentioning). They appear in ascending order from my least favorite to my most favorite.

Worth mentioning: A couple of apps not included on this list but worth mentioning are Pleco and Skritter.

Pleco is a highly-regarded Chinese dictionary. I have it on my phone and do use it, but I left it off the list because I prefer another (#6 on this list). Since I’m still very much a beginner, a thorough dictionary isn’t quite so important to me right now. However, it seems like every advanced student of Mandarin recommends this app, so I had to include it.

Skritter is another app that’s highly regarded among serious students. I believe it focuses on helping with character recognition and writing. It has a subscription service that is a bit expensive, which is why I’ve never tried it; however, everyone seems to rave about it. If you’re a serious student, you should definitely look into it.

Also, I recommend downloading some Chinese-language apps designed for preschoolers. I found several of them online in the iTunes store, and a lot of them include short stories with simple words, practice with basic characters, etc. Using these apps gives you some immersive listening practice, which is fun. They can be kind of hit and miss, so I recommend downloading all you can find and seeing what you can figure out and what you like. They won’t replace any of the apps below, but they still serve a purpose.

6. WCC Dictionary This is the dictionary I use instead of Pleco. I like it primarily because of its beautiful design (something Pleco doesn’t really have). This app is mainly a dictionary, but it offers a lot more than that. For example, it has a character scanner (so you can look up words you find in books by taking a picture of the character). It also has a “story library” with a few simple books to read (with Pinyin, the characters, an English translation, and the ability to listen to the story being read). Characters are color coded if you use that as a device to help you with tones. It has a flashcard program with pre-created word lists, extensive example sentences, a section on radicals with example words, and stroke order animations. It also offers a “character of the day” and daily “homework” to motivate you to use what you learn. The dictionary itself is free, but there’s a lot of content that you have to pay to unlock, although there’s also a way to buy the content using “coins” that you earn through using the app.

5. Mindsnacks Mandarin A lot of you are already familiar with the Mindsnacks app because it’s offered for a lot of different languages (and a few school subjects like geography). This app uses games to teach Mandarin, mostly focusing on vocabulary (not grammar or sentence construction). It’s a bit limited, but it can be a really fun way to learn. After a while, the games start to feel repetitive and can get boring, but the app also has you move through levels (which allow you to unlock new games) and uses other incentives to keep you playing. The audio is an actual human, too, which is a big benefit since many apps and programs rely on Google Translate robot voices. This is a paid app, which could be a drawback.

4. FluentU This app is the reason I started learning Mandarin in the first place. I tried using it for French, but I felt like my French was too advanced to gain much from it. Even though there were advanced-level videos with vocabulary I didn’t know, FluentU doesn’t do a good job of adapting to your level and guessing which words will give you trouble. That’s perfectly fine for a beginner, though, since every word will probably give you trouble, which is why I used it for Mandarin. I think the makers of FluentU are Chinese speakers, and they seem to have focused more on Mandarin in their app. They have a built-in course you can follow, using videos they made themselves for teaching the language. The videos are pretty good, and you will feel like you’re learning a lot. There are also a lot of other videos if you want to branch out, including some catchy songs and clips from commercials or TV shows. The built-in flashcard system is a good way to review, but there’s no way to adjust their algorithms, so you might end up reviewing the same words way too often. I stopped using the program when I had 400+ words to review every day, and I just couldn’t keep up and continue advancing. This app is also very limited in the free version, and the paid subscription is VERY pricey, in my opinion, especially considering that there are other apps out there that offer more features. All of the videos are on YouTube anyway, so you can still use them to learn as you advance (or if you have a friend who can help you). I recommend this app if you want to pay for one month and use it to study intensively and advance quickly. That’s what I did, and I think it helped me out a lot.

3. ChineseSkill This is the first app that was designed to be a “Duolingo for Mandarin,” and it has a lot of great features. There’s the typical “tree” like in Duolingo, where you advance through different lessons one by one. It teaches character recognition, pronunciation, and grammar. The lessons can be really challenging for a beginner (sometimes too challenging, I thought), but it covers a lot of material. I’m not completely happy with the order in which lessons are taught (for example, there’s a lesson on shapes near the beginning that has you learn words like “triangle,” which seemed unimportant to me). The other drawback is there isn’t an easy way to review what you’ve learned (like on Duolingo when your gold-level lessons start to fade). It’s possible, but not super easy to access. Other interesting features include a tone game, a pinyin chart, a “survival kit” that’s like a travel phrasebook, and practice with stroke order. Also, this app is 100% free, which is amazing! I definitely recommend this app.

2. Social Language This app is really different from the others and is probably the most useful if you believe in speaking a language as soon as possible. I don’t think a lot of English speakers know about it because it seems to be marketed mostly to Chinese speakers. It’s a bit hard to explain, but I’ll try my best: basically, there’s a tree like you have for Duolingo, but the exercises are all to improve your speaking and pronunciation. You work through the lessons, and Chinese-speaking users rate and comment on your recordings. They can even leave voice messages to help you improve. You can do the same for them (in fact, you have to if you want to unlock higher levels). That alone makes the app worth downloading, but even better is that it includes a CHAT FEATURE that makes it very easy to interact with native speakers. You can see the profiles of hundreds of Chinese speakers who are online at any given time of day, and you can send a text or voice message to them and later add them to your friends’ list. What’s more, the ratio of Chinese to English speakers heavily favors English speakers. You will find hundreds of Chinese speakers eager to practice their English, and often you will be one of only a handful of English speakers on the app, meaning you have instant access to a chat partner any time of day or night. Have a question about your homework, something you read, or a phrase you don’t know how to pronounce? Instant, free tutoring is available 24/7 on this app, which is also FREE! I met some really nice people here without the pressure of a more formal language exchange. You can have a casual conversation any time you want, and it’s like text messaging so there’s less pressure if you’re shy about speaking Chinese. The only drawback is the same as with all language exchanges, which is that it’s sometimes difficult to balance the two languages. Also, I had problems with sending voice messages in chat, which can be frustrating. Overall, though, I’d say Social Language is a must-have.

1. HelloChinese This app didn’t exist last summer when I was looking for a Mandarin version of Duolingo, but I discovered it last week and fell in love with it. It actually has fewer features than ChineseSkill, but the pacing seems much better, and it focuses more heavily on pronunciation (though the speech recognition software isn’t perfect and you will sometimes need to skip a speaking question just to keep moving forward). It comes with some good grammar explanations and a really basic flashcard program for review. Honestly, I feel bad for rating it higher than ChineseSkill since ChineseSkill has been around longer and offers a lot more features, but I feel like HelloChinese just makes more sense and is easier to stick with than ChineseSkill. Like ChineseSkill, it’s also 100% free! I consider HelloChinese to be my “core” app for casual study, with the other apps acting as supplements. If you’re a more serious student, HelloChinese might not be your #1 pick, but it’s great for beginners who like the structure of an app like DuoLingo.

sacchariwrites  asked:

Are you going to tell us now how you changed the story after you saw episode 10? You said you had to go back and re-outline the whole thing. I am interested in knowing how it differs.

i’m sorry if someone has already asked you this but can you share with us the original plan you had for umfb before episode 10? or can you not tell us until after the companion fic?

How Episode 10 Changed Everything (and other fun stories):

So as I’ve said a couple of times before, episode 10 was an absolute game changer for Until My Feet Bleed and My Heart Aches and now that the fic is finally done I’ll try and explain how although this may get a bit long and I wont go into too much detail about Viktor for companion fic reasons.

So the main three things that episode 10 changed in the fic was Viktor’s entire character, Yuuri as an unreliable narrator and the program music.

The most significant by far was Viktor’s character. Because pre episode 10 we really still didn’t know that much about Viktor and we had no idea about the banquet. So before episode 10 I assumed that Yuuri fell in love first and Viktor came to coach Yuuri out of curiosity because he likes surprises and doing something different and eventually and unexpectedly found himself falling in love. In a draft for another fic I was tossing ideas around for it actually centred on Viktor only realising he was in love with Yuuri just before the kiss in episode 7. Viktor was always very mysterious and I’m sure people who were in the fandom pre ep10 will remember all the theories that he was just using Yuuri and all that and while I didn’t believe that, I did assume that Viktor’s character trope was the ‘workaholic slowly learns how to love by being loved’ one.

But then episode 10 comes and completely knocks that out of the water because we find that Viktor is actually this adorable sappy romantic who calls Yuuri sleeping beauty and adores him and fell in love with him when he was wasted and dancing and brought life and love back into Viktor’s world. And that completely changed Viktor in the fic because after an episode from his pov I had a much better handle on his character and realised he absolutely wouldn’t act like he had been planned to act in the fic.

In the original plan he wasn’t ever a bad person or anything but he was actually a rival for Yuuri and he didn’t fall in love until much much later. But with episode 10 we also found out that Chris and Viktor are best buddies and Viktor likes skating with Chris and can’t imagine a season without him which means that in the fic there’s no way that Viktor would feel threatened by Yuuri as a rival because in canon he’s besties with his competitor and he’s way too much of a sweetheart for that. So in the fic it changed from Viktor reciprocating the rivalry to Viktor actually enjoying the challenge and excitement it brought into his life.

As for him falling in love, in chapter 10 the singing thing was always planned but that was originally the first sign that Viktor was starting to feel affection for Yuuri and was just the very beginning of him falling in love. It chapter 10! But after ep10 I realised that Viktor ‘love at first drunken dance’ Nikiforov would definitely not be having a solid two years of a ‘relationship’ and just be starting to fall because that would be seriously ooc and we finally saw just how much he adores Yuuri through his own eyes. And so in the fic I reworked the whole thing to fit with Viktor as a character as I now understood him and that included him falling first, falling hard and falling early.

Episode 10 also showed us just how much of an unreliable narrator Yuuri is, with the banquet and also how different everything seemed from Viktor’s eyes. And so that meant that I started to play with the idea of Yuuri being a seriously unreliable narrator and trying to tell a story where his version is very different to the version the audience see, which is obvious now pretty crucial to umfb&mha.

I also went back and reworked all the program music for the fic once episode 10 came out. Before it was all important and did have significance but after I knew that Viktor was going to fall early I decided to play around with the idea of showing the audience how he was feeling through his music. So I went back and completely changed the program music to tell a proper story (funny story, originally Yuuri was going to be the one skating to Sun and Moon. And then episode 10 happened and I looked at the new outline of the fic like ‘this is such a Viktor song oh my god).

Another thing that episode 10 changed was originally Chris wasn’t involved in the fic at all until we found out about his and Viktor’s friendship and that he’s actually such a bro not just a weird guy who gropes Yuuri and comes on the ice. As well as that, in episode 10 we also found out that Yuuri was actually the unknowing playboy in the Eros story not Viktor, coming into Viktor’s life, stealing his heart and then leaving without a word, which lead me adapting the fic to umfb!Yuuri becoming a perceived playboy by others through certain things that will be explored fully in the companion fic as a reference to that. There were also some smaller changes like the inclusion of the drunken Olympics and Yuuri knowing how to pole dance as a shout out to the episode.

Episode 12 also changed a lot. One of the things was Yurio and his role in the fic and how he feels about Yuuri which will be explored more in the companion fic. Also the original end of the fic was that Yuuri was going to try and fail to do the quad flip which ruins an otherwise perfect skate and potentially loses him the gold but he was willing to sacrifice it to tell Viktor. But in episode 12 we see that Yuuri can do a quad flip with his love for Viktor as motivation so it changed to Yuuri still potentially ruining his skate because he isn’t sure if he can land the jump but doing it anyway and actually succeeding because every time he tried and failed before it was because he was doing it out of bitterness trying to beat Viktor and this time he was doing it out of love.

The fic also changed a lot over the course of writing it just because characters take on a life of their own and my first draft was very rough and done before I’d written anything so I’ll try and do a chapter by chapter run down of the big changes from the rough plan I wrote before starting the fic to the end result.

Chapter 4:

·       Phichit originally wasn’t a big part of the fic but that very quickly changed because it’s Phichit and he’s so damn important to Yuuri and such an amazing character so I added him in early and made his part much bigger

·       There was originally going to be a discussion between Viktor and Yuuri that went badly and they both ended up annoyed and offended which sparked Viktor’s side of the rivalry but there was no way to do that without making them both dicks and ooc and after episode 10 it changed to Viktor trying to be helpful but unreliable narrator Yuuri taking it wrong and cutting the conversation short

Chapter 6:

·       Yuuri was originally going to be watching interviews and stuff of Viktor and thinking how arrogant and self-assured he was but this changed with Viktor’s character change because that’s just not him

·       Viktor was going to make a comment about Yuuri’s quads but this one was actually going to be an insult and again changed when Viktor’s character changed

·       The idea for the dream sequence only came later

Chapter 7:

·       Pole dancing only became a thing after episode 10

·       Viktor was going to only miss the GPS and come back for Worlds but lose because he wasn’t fully recovered but I decided I didn’t want the first time Yuuri won against Viktor to be so unsatisfying

·       The watching Yuuri skate at the rink didn’t originally happen at this point in the fic until after I saw ep 10

Chapter 8:

·       Yuuri never lost motivation originally but I decided at that point it was important in his character to almost give up but then come back with a vengeance

·       The drunken Olympics never originally happened

·       They were both originally going to be drunk when they first slept together but that got thrown out almost immediately because consent is very important and there was no way I was going to write a scene where both of them were drunk and therefore couldn’t give proper consent.  Also it was important it wasn’t a drunken mistake but a deliberate choice.

·       Viktor getting drinks never happened, instead he was going to be treating Yuuri in a similar way to how Yuuri was treating him

Chapter 9:

·       Yuuri was originally still going to be very hostile before I realised it was ooc and a dick move after Viktor was being nice to him so it changed to him congratulating Viktor after Viktor won. That then changed the sex scene from the mutual hatefuck it was going to be pre ep10 to Yuuri and the comments thing that sent him spiralling. The not-talking thing was also added as a plot device because Viktor as he became acted very differently to him as he was originally planned to be and it would have been too easy if he had been allowed to talk.

·       Viktor was originally going to take Yuuri out to dinner at the WC purely out of guilt

·       There was originally going to be another sex scene after the WC and dinner where Yuuri was angry at Viktor for ruining his skate but it would be ooc for both of them and got changed early on

Chapter 10:

·       Number swap was supposed to be just for hooking up but changed after ep10

·       Yuuri’s theme was originally going to be something related to hatred but it changed as his character developed and I realised how he was being affected by the events of the fic was different to the plan and that would be doing him a disservice as a character

·       Viktor was still kind of being a bit of a dick and making snide comments during sex when Yuuri won which was changed when I rewrote Viktor as a character after ep10

·       Conversation with Phichit was very short and didn’t involve a lot of the stuff it did in the final chapter

·       Viktor was again going to be acting very different in the second sex scene with none of the need or desperation that happened which all came about during his character change

·       Conversation with Chris never happened until the third of four re-writes of ep10 when I realised Viktor’s actions needed some more context for people who were ignoring the music

Chapter 11:

·       Lots of sex was supposed to happen in this chapter before I changed it for plot reasons and also companion fic reasons

·       Sex scene was supposed to be all about Yuuri acting like Eros Yuuri but those two idiots in love were very sappy and sentimental instead and it became a crucial relationship shift point instead

·       All domesticness from that chapter was planned out later in the fic as the fic was being written not in the first plan, including the borscht scene

Chapter 12:

·       Meal with the other skaters never happened

·       The revel about Yuuri’s virginity never happened in the first plan. Then in the rough draft of the chapter it happened at the same time as the second reveal but I split them because it worked better that way

·       This was when Viktor was supposed to secretly watch Yuuri skating his routine

·       Yurio wasn’t originally involved at all and Yuuri left after getting jealous. The love revelation never happened

Chapter 13:

·       Yurio appeared in this chapter instead although the conversation was very different in the rough plan because everything he talks about in the final version came about after episode 10 changed everything

·       Yuuri was originally going to be much more angry at the scandal and used his anger to win while Viktor still fucked up his skate but this changed early when I realised it was ooc and Yuuri would actually react very differently and that emotional devastation and heartbreak would ruin his skate instead

Chapter 14:

·       None of the conversations with Yuuri’s family were planned in detail in the first rough plan, I just knew he needed to go back to Hasetsu and have some revelations

·       Yuuri was supposed to convince himself that Viktor never loved him and never could and only realised Viktor’s feelings after seeing stammi vicino. This changed because it was very important for Yuuri to go and get some distance and time and then decided to come back and decided to try again with Viktor before he saw stammi vicino. It also changed because with Viktor as he became after ep10 and how he reacted there was no way that Yuuri would convince himself that Viktor never cared for him. He’s a bit emotionally dense sometimes but not an idiot

·       Yuuri was going to fall on the quad flip

So yeah, all this is from the very rough draft before I wrote any of it and the story adapted and changed along the way as I got more into the characters and got a better handle on how they would act until it became what you see today. It definitely became a much better story and I’m very happy with all the changes that I made! Having a plan is great for a framework but letting the characters grow and change naturally during the writing process is much more fun and I think makes for a better story

lostuntothisworld  asked:

a while back you recommended the movie Autopsy of Jane Doe and it was fantastic! Do you have any more horror movie recs that are psychological like that (with minimal jump scares preferably?)

omg yesssssssss, i sure as heck do. i looooooove recommending horror movies. kay, here we go, pychological, disturbing, and minimal jump scares:

1. Get Out (2017) - this is a newer movie, and I’m sure you’ve heard about it (and maybe even seen it already). I finally got to see it in theaters and it was marvelous. Very tense horror, minimal jump scares. Definitely recommend it if you haven’t seen it yet.

2. The Thing (1982) - this is probably my favorite horror movie, and one I will always, always recommend to people. It’s more sci-fi/horror, but horror none the less. This is a movie that feeds on uncertainty and tension, fueled by distrust and paranoia between the characters. (There was also a prequel to this movie made in 2011, and I certainly enjoyed that one as well, but it still couldn’t quite deliver the same chills and fear the 1982 version did.)

3. They Look Like People (2015) - this is another one that I just watched recently. Probably one of the best that fits the category of psychological horror. It’s a bit slow to start, but develops into a story that will leave you tense, unsure, and unsettled. Plus, it’s probably the only horror movie I have ever seen that manages to highlight mental illness without demonizing it.

4. As Above So Below (2014) - this is a movie that honestly, I was very skeptical about seeing. It’s a found footage movie (which I typically hate), and it got very poor reviews, but I wound up watching it on a whim one day and found myself enjoying it a lot more than I expected. It honestly is more of a adventure/horror film rather than a strict horror film - and the reviews might have been better, I think, if its marketing hadn’t painted it as a strict horror film. There are a few jump scares in there, but not a whole lot. Much the movie relies on claustrophobia, confusion, and mystery. It’s really an interesting look at a journey into hell. I greatly enjoy it, though your mileage may vary.

5. Event Horizon (1997) - another sci-fi/horror film. A nightmarish movie about salvage/rescue crew that goes out to salvage a ship that vanished on its maiden voyage and reappeared 7 years later missing its entire crew. This movie deals well in suspense, fear, and our ultimate terror of what evils could lie beyond the unknown.

6. The Descent (2005) - yet another movie I recommend to everyone. Set underground in an unknown cave system, and led by an all female cast, this movie is just full of anxiety, paranoia, claustrophobia, and unease. It’ll certainly make you never want to go caving.

7. The Strangers (2008) - a great take on the classic home invasion/slasher film. It boasts a really creepy atmosphere, an isolated setting, and has moments of genuine, realistic anxiety and terror (even the small things, like trying to find somewhere to hide and realizing you can’t fit, etc…) I saw this movie with my best friend back when it first came out, and it’s still one of my favorites.

8. The Others (2001) - this is not your typical ghost story. Honestly this one is hard to describe because I don’t want to give too much away about the plot. In the last few days of World War II, a woman and her two children wait in isolation, after the mysterious disappearance of their servants, for her husband/their father to return from the war. It’s only in the isolation of the house that they begin to realize the house might not be as empty as they thought it was. Very, very unique take on a ghost story. The case is wonderful, and the pacing and setting of this movie creates wonderfully creepy, unsettling fear.

9. The Witch (2016) - slow-burn horror and very setting specific, this one’s focus is on religious fear and the sexual stigmatization of girls and women. It’s slow-paced, but really great at building up a sense of unease and dread, and even the small things in it, like small rabbits in the wild, can make you feel unsettled.

10. Black Swan (2010) - not strictly a horror movie, this one is heavily psychological, and I almost want to cast it as a thriller more than anything, but some of it truly does fall into the realm of psychological horror. Paranoia, obsession, and tension, this movie is chock-full of it.

11. Funny Games (2007) - this one is actually a remake of a 1997 movie of the same name. I feel kind of bad, but I actually haven’t seen the original, but from what I hear, the two movies don’t differ much. This one is particularly unsettling because of its constant underlying feeling of authenticity. Much like The Strangers, this feels real, like it could happen to anyone, like its psychopaths could be anybody, any well-to-do strangers. It’s a long, sometimes unbearably frustrating game of physical and psychological torture; and the few moments of well-timed 4th wall breaking really up the frustration and distress.

12. 1408 (2007) - based on a Stephen King story, this film heavily relies on psychological and anxiety-building elements to create its tension. Every thing that happens in this room makes you question what it will do next, what trick will it pull, what hopes will it dash. There’s not much else to say about this one exept that… “It’s an evil fucking room.”

13. El Orfanato/The Orphanage (2007) - man this one is definitely a favorite of mine. Very unnerving and deeply emotional at the same time, this one is a very well-crafted and clever take on the haunted house/orphanage trope. It’s spooky, chilling, has some moments that will genuinely crawl under your skin (the 1-2-3 toca la pared scene always does it for me…), and features a wildly emotional ending.

14. The Babadook (2014) - this one doesn’t rely on cheap scares at all, but still features some truly creepy and unnerving moments that left me on edge. But in addition to that, this movie is about so much more than a boogeyman lurking in the shadows. Heavily psychological, this movie delves deeply into how we process loss and deal with all-consuming grief.

15. 28 Days Later (2002) - I probably don’t need to say much about this one. It’s a movie that most people have either seen or have at least heard of. But there’s a reason it’s consistently named one of the best zombie movies around. It deals with not only the horror of the zombies (and they certainly make that aspect scary on its own), but also the darkest aspects of the fall of society. We’re given a frighteningly grim look at the degradation of humanity and the darkest aspects of human nature as society falls apart.

15 seems like enough! And hopefully you’ll like some of those!! :D

(also, for those reading this, please watch Autopsy of Jane Doe (2016) cause it’s amazing)

7 reasons why I love Utada Hikaru...

1. Her music videos

Traveling” (2001) is one great example for an amazing music video of hers. The song is about creative energy and charting previously unknown territory. Directed by her then-husband Kazuaki Kiriya, it is one of many collaborations between the two that happened from 2001 to 2006 - basically the time of her most daring video creations. So colourful, aesthetic and energetic, the music becomes one with the visual experience in each song. “Sakura Drops” (2002), taken from the same album (”Deep River”) as “Traveling”, showcases a similarly breathtaking visual journey.

2. Her lyrics

In myself, I see no dreams, like unpainted pictures
how many times must I fill this canvas?
I’ll abandon time as I hold a white flag overhead
I am your unknown color now -
COLORS

Thinking too much, don’t fall into desperation
A world that changes constantly feels like tricking a child
When people find themselves alone
They realize the meaning of love -  GOODBYE HAPPINESS

If the key is too high, it’s okay to lower it
the song has the strength not to change
distress is only one passing point
like a bracelet that’s too big, things will slide into place - WAIT & SEE (RISK)

Looking up the translations for the first time has been a revelation. She writes and composes her songs all by herself (and even produces nearly all of them), making them even more heartfelt. They are about real, complex emotions, far more challenging than the usual “girl meets boy” pop song formula.

3. Her live shows

She is able to perform live like no other. Her vocals sound exactly as amazing as on the CD and she is able to constantly deliver with an amazing energy throughout a whole concert. And most of all, she can transform a song into a live bomb! While I already like the studio version of “Devil Inside” (from her English-language 2004 album “Exodus”), it is the live version that I definitely ADORE!

4. Her experimental mind

She is not afraid to venture into more experimental fields, producing songs like “Passion” (2005) (with another Kazuaki Kiriya music video) or “Kremlin Dusk” (2004). She is a hugely successful artist and somehow also manages to fit these experimental tunes in her repertoire..

5. Her joyful melodies alongside saddening themes

Watch the live version of “Goodbye Happiness here

Sounding like quite a happy song with playful melodies, “Goodbye Happiness” is actually about a saddening topic. And how she delivers this in one package makes it ultimately bittersweet in a way I could just cry with a smile on my face, singing along that catchy tune.

Oo all of creation goes ‘round and will go 'round
Oh oh oh darling, darling
No one can ever take your place
Only you

6. Her Evangelion theme songs

When the reboot film series “Rebuild of Evangelion” began in 2007, Utada was asked to provide a theme song to the first installment “Evangelion: 1.0 You Are (Not) Alone”. Being a huge fan of the original Neon Genesis Evangelion anime series from the 90′s, she agreed and wrote the song “Beautiful World” especially for this occasion. Lyrically very fitting to the franchise, it can be seen as another way of looking into the feelings of protagonist Shinji Hikari. Not being brave enough, yet still trying his best. The beautiful melody and atmosphere, the top-notch production, as well as the association with the anime made this my second favourite song of hers.

After a remix of “Beautiful World” served as the theme song to the second installment “Evangelion: 2.0 You Can (Not) Advance” (2009), she was asked again to make a song for the third film “Evangelion: 3.0 You Can (Not) Redo”, released in 2012. “Sakura nagashi” breaks my heart each time I listen to it. The sorrow, the pain that the death of a beloved one that come through in this song hurts like nothing else in this world. Yet, she can present all these emotions in such a grace and beauty. I cannot find many words that would do this masterpiece of a song justice, other than that it is one of a kind and one with the world and themes of Evangelion. My very favourite song of hers.

7. Her ability to evolve

Just a few days ago, Hikki (how her fans affectionately call her) dropped a new song, along with a music video featuring herself dancing a contemporary choreography by acclaimed dancer and choreographer Fukiko Takase. What blows me away the most is how she manages to make her melodies even more interesting the older she gets. She explores so many different harmonies, especially on her latest album “Fantôme”. While she may not be among the avant-garde in terms of arrangement and production, she is definitely able to keep her music interesting. This is very much apparent in her newest song “Forevermore”, which is carried by a string arrangement (something she has perfectioned recently) and her vocals, which together give us a mesmerizingly dreamy mix.

Still, there are many more reasons why…

…like her hauntingly beautiful smash-hit “Flavor Of Life”, her iconic debut single “Automatic”, the bittersweet “Final Distance” or her ability to create an actually quite original Christmas song. The aforementioned seven at least give a good overview over why I love Utada Hikaru.

BAD VIDEO GAME PROTAGONISTS PART 1/????

I might or might not make a series depending on how it goes but as a followup to my post kinda meandering about how certain folk react badly to protagonists in video games no matter what I’ll go into protagonists in games that are actually genuinely bad and I’ll attempt to explain why they don’t work, in my opinion.

As a general warning for this series, there will be spoilers for every game that I cover (of course) and content warnings for the specific games will apply, which I’ll tag to the best of my ability.

This one will be about

So I know I’m like a week late to this but better late than never.

I’ve seen a heck of a lot of people post their contribution to the HS fandom now that it’s over and I figured I might as well do the same.

I’m a pretty decent fanfic writer and I’ve written a lot of fics, so here’s the fic list! It’s going to be broken up into categories by ships/other with a very small summary. (I made most of these before the last homestuck updates so the info in some of them may be wrong because of the latest updates.)

DAVEKAT:

  • Karkat’s Lessons- Karkat learns about what’s he’s destined to do in life with the help of Kankri and a lecture that lasts forever.
  • Karkat’s Journey- (Part Two of Karkat’s Lessons) Karkat sets out into the new universe with hopes of becoming a leader to the new race of trolls but history ends up repeating itself once they find out that Her Imperious Condescension has already taken over Earth.
  •  The Kids Are Alright- The Game’s finally over and Dave’s just happy he can stop worrying about dying and destruction and just relax with his alien boyfriend.
  • A Sprite, A Ghost, A Dream Bubble- Neither Davesprite nor this dead Karkat are the “original” versions of themselves and that sucks, but at least they have each other.
  • Picture Perfect- Dave just wants Karkat to see himself the way Dave sees him.

SOLKAT:

  • Migraines and Sore Throats- Sollux was just some troll that created a better chatting application to use for himself and his friends, he didn’t realize that’d he make such a huge connection with someone who typed in weird grey text.

GAMKAR:

  • The Only Hope For Me Is You- Gamzee’s let out of the fridge and it seems like Karkat’s the only one willing to help the poor clown change.
  • Best Friends?- The story of Gamzee and Karkat and how their friendship grew through the years.

ERISOL:

  • ScreenEridan and Sollux weren’t perfect matesprits. Hell they weren’t perfect kismesis’. But they were happy and that’s all that mattered to them.

TAVKAT:

EQUIKAT:

  • His PrinceKarkat Vantas never really expected to become anyone’s matesprit, especially not Equius’s.

VANTASCEST:

  • Turtlenecks- Karkat and Kankri were the exact opposite, yet they were perfect for each other.

JOHNKAT:

  • LovelyJohn stays on the meteor instead of Dave, and it is boring. Everyone except the one person he wants to talk to talks to him. He just needs some way to get the nubby-horned troll he desires to talk to him, and when he does get that he wonders if maybe he wants more than to just talk to Karkat.
  • Love Actually- Was there ever really a point in time where Karkat denied his feelings about John? No. Was there ever a point in time where Karkat realized his feelings about John were something different than what he first thought? Oh yeah. Definitely.

DIRKJAKE:

DIRKKAT:

FEFNEP:

  • High School Football HeroNepeta just wanted to play football and not even the school’s fucked up sports system will stop her and her girlfriend from achieving her goal.

OTHER:

  • Night Of The Living GamzeeGamzee Makara finally snaps, hunting and killing every single troll or human inhabiting the meteor
  • The Loneliest Corner of the Meteor- Karkat’s lonely. He was lonely ever since Kanaya and Rose hooked up. Since Dave and Terezi hooked up. Since the death of a vast majority of his friends. Since Gamzee broke off the already fragile pale relationship with him. What’s a troll to do when no one on this small meteor will even give him the time of day?
  • Ground Control to Mituna Captor- We all know that Mituna suffered severe thinkpan damage from protecting his friends from some sort of monster, but how exactly did it happen?

Thanks for reading! Remember to comment and tell me how my writing is! Happy late 4/13!!

Chapter 93 Thoughts.

Le writer is happy because this was such a good chapter.

I will be using Mangastream since it is on the point and Crunchyroll translation is not out yet. I will make corrections after I read Cruncyroll translation.

Ah, I am really living for chapters like this! Many things I learn, many things I crave. New info. Yay! To sum it up cursory, in this chapter we saw:

  • Isayama really did reversed the map, call it a brand new world and gave half of it Marley. Really, Marley is putting British, Mongols and Romans to shame while Alexander the Great is crying at background.
  • Marley is relying too much on Titan power, that is why they don’t have an advanced army and navy.
  • Mads Mikkelsen is their marshal.
  • Mid-East Union is now Fab-Kebab Union who lost the war but also got all the praises and that made Marley jealous.
  • Zeke can get even more interesting every month. He also has a Zekeret.
  • Marley is not aware that Zeke is royal blood. Bruh.
  • We found out how Zeke is able to control titans. With injecting his own spine fluid. Reasonable.
  • Cartman is actually a cartwoman and she stole my heart. Unlike roast master Galliard.
  • Reiner “I must protect the smol ones” Braun. Enough said.
  • The smol ones are also winning my heart more every chapter. Gabi, Falco, Udo and Zophia are 14 year old cutie pies.
  • Paradis is doing well, Paradis is doing great.
  • Ackermans are actually lab rats.
  • Ymir. Beautiful. Willful. Dead.
  • Le writer is wishing next month to be a Warrior chapter as well to get a Warrior volume and her chapter thoughts are under the cut.

Classic Who: Starter Pack/List of Recommended Stories

So, you love Doctor Who and want to see what the Classic series is all about. But, you know, it ran for 26 years and it’s fucking huge and just way too daunting, and something about missing episodes?? Help?? Never fear.

The great thing about Doctor Who, especially Classic Who, is that watching it in order really isn’t that important.

So, as far as I’m concerned, the best way to get into Classic Who is to sample a bit of each Doctor, and see what takes. And so here is my list of recommendations for each Doctor for those of you wanting to give this beautiful low budget sci-fi meme-factory masterpiece a try.

  • Note 1: Classic Who is formatted differently to New Who. It’s made up of ‘serials’, which are storylines of anything from 2-10 episodes, 25 minutes each. Most are 4, but 2 and 6 parters are also common in some eras. So I’m recommending the serials, as opposed to episodes, obviously.
  • Note 2: I want to express that this is my personal rec list, and what I think people will enjoy/enjoyed myself. I’m not claiming that these are definitely the best storylines or the ones people will enjoy most because Doctor Who is an incredibly subjective show, and deciding on ‘best’ storylines is so difficult. So, this list is fallible, probably, but I hope you like it anyway.

These are listed, in chronological order, with serial title, then companions, and then any additional notes I have about the story.

(Italicised serial title is my top rec for that era if you’re just looking for one of each, with the exception of The Unearthly Child because it’s the first one so just watch it, okay?)

First Doctor

  • An Unearthly Child (not the unaired pilot version, the proper first episode!! If Susan is drawing weird shit on paper you’re watching the wrong one) - Ian, Barbara and Susan - just episode 1 and first half of ep 2, once they leave the TARDIS you’re good to stop unless you want to keep going which is totally fair but it’s just a lot of cavemen grunting about fire really, though there is an interesting moment where the Doctor wants to kill a dude with a rock
  • The Aztecs - Ian, Barbara, and Susan - okay basically if you want the serious historical storyline go with this one, otherwise see The Romans
  • The Dalek Invasion of Earth - Ian, Barbara and Susan
  • The Romans - Ian, Barbara, and Vicki (newly joined) - if you want the funny, very silly historical storyline, go with this one, otherwise, go Aztecs

Second Doctor

  • The Mind Robber - Zoe and Jamie
  • The War Games  - Zoe and Jamie (as a warning, it’s fucking 10 episodes long but really good if a little stretched out) - first naming of and appearance of Time Lords as a people, Two’s regeneration episode

Third Doctor

Three’s era has way too many great serials so I’m just gonna let you pick from what you think sounds good. All of these feature the Brigadier to some capacity, too.

  • Spearhead in Space - Liz (first appearance) - important for getting an idea of what the UNIT situation is, first Auton appearance, first episode following the regeneration
  • Inferno - Liz - it’s basically an “all the Doctors friends are evil!AU verse” story
  • Terror of the Autons - Jo (first appearance), first appearance of the Master
  • The Sea Devils - iconic Best Enemies serial (the sword fight!), has the Silurian’s “cousins” the Sea Devils, plus the actual Navy and lots of boats
  • The Three Doctors - Jo - MULTI DOCTOR, First and Second Doctor, first appearance of Omega
  • The Time Warrior - Sarah Jane (first appearance) - first Sontaran appearance, first naming of Gallifrey!

Fourth Doctor

  • Genesis of the Daleks - Sarah Jane and Harry - first Davros appearance/Dalek origin stuff! TMA/TWF in Series 9 of New Who is basically a sequel to this story
  • Invasion of Time - Leela - set on Gallifrey with Time Lords and Sontarans
  • City of Death - Romana II (Time Lady companion!!) - centred around the Mona Lisa kinda

Fifth Doctor

  • The Five Doctors - Tegan and Turlough - plus old companions, MULTI DOCTOR, first five doctors except Four
  • Caves of Androzani - Peri (newly joined) - very acclaimed story, Five’s regeneration episode, think Phantom of the Opera meets alien mining shit

Sixth Doctor

I’ve not seen enough of his first season so this is my main rec, along with the whole Trial of a Time Lord season if you’re looking for more Six.

  • Mark of the Rani - Peri - first appearance of the Rani (another renegade Time Lord, amoral scientist who was at school with the Doc and the Master, hates them both lmao), plus the Master, it’s a big messy school reunion set during the Industrial Revolution

Seventh Doctor

  • Remembrance of the Daleks - Ace - set at Coal Hill, Ace beats a Dalek up with a baseball bat, literally creating the “defining moment of awesome” trope because she’s that iconic
  • The Happiness Patrol - Ace - dystopia where unhappiness is illegal, the TARDIS gets painted pink

Eighth Doctor

  • The 1996 movie - Grace - take the ‘half human’ thing with a grain of salt because Eight is a little shit and the Master was dealing with shifty information

And there we are!

If anyone gets through this list and wants to ask for additional recs, feel free to come into my inbox, I’m always up for helping others get into the joy that is Classic Who.

Otherwise, sit back, strap in, and prepare to laugh at some questionable guest acting, stuffy Time Lords in stupid clothes, and of course the old/cheap special effects. And of course, enjoy, because the storylines are still solid as HELL and so are the main characters.

TMNT 2012 ends tonight!

The finale of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2012 airs tonight at 9 on Nicktoons.

This show has been such a huge part of my life for the last five years. Being an aspie, I get super obsessed with like one thing for a long time, and TMNT 2012 has been that thing.

Unlike past aspie obsessions though, I’ve actually been able to make friends rather than drive them away through this.

Tori @adrenalinerush247 became my college roommate in Fall 2015 (we’d met during my first semester, Spring 2015, in Acting I) and one night she saw me wearing a TMNT 2012 t-shirt to bed and she was like, “I’ve actually heard good things about that show. Should I watch it?” I was surprised anyone would want to watch what I watch, but I was like, “If you want. I mean I like it.”

Not only did she volunteer to watch it; she watched all three seasons in eleven days! And then to tide her over until season 4 premiered, I offered her my fanfic, which she also loved! Such a good feeling. :3

TMNT was the thing we bonded over as roommates, friends, and near sisters, and it was so amazing getting to live with someone as obsessed with TMNT as I am.

I’ve met a lot of awesome people here on Tumblr, too!

Shelle and Pie, I love you both so much! We should do a Skype video call soon! Like maybe when you two meet up in Scotland! @mamashelle80 @pie-thinkings

Brit, I don’t know if you’ll see this, but I’m so proud of you and you’re such an inspiration.

Poetique, Reddy, Millin, Kallie, Kleptotello, Faithy, Myrling, it’s been lovely making your acquaintance and even getting to know some of you.
@poetique823 @redworld96 @millin21 @kalliecolors @kleptotello @faithfulwhispers @myrling-art

Leo, Raph, Donnie, Mikey, and April, as well as everyone else that’s part of your blog system, you all do a great job with your blogs and you’re so patient and brave doing what you do!
@ichiban-turtle @raph-the-muscle @donatellotmnt @mikey-angelo-hamato @blog-ask-april-o-neil

I love this community, and it wouldn’t be possible without Brandon Auman and Ciro Nieli.

Their version of TMNT has been the cleverest, funniest, feelsiest, most action packed and ship-tastic version ever. Even Kevin Eastman praised it as the finest version of TMNT. And dude, the plot twists in this show! Making Karai Splinter’s daughter??? It’s been four years and I still can’t get over it. Absolutely brilliant.

Whatever happens tonight, I won’t be going anywhere. I still have a lot of blogging to do. I haven’t even gotten to the monster arc and crossover arc yet! (I mean I’ve seen them, but I haven’t blogged about them much.)

Plus I really wanna try that timeline thing. Let’s see if any sense can be made of this weirdness. I’m sure I’ll notice a lot of fun things going through the show again and I’ll want to share those, too.

I’ll be around for a while and I hope you all will be, too. This will always be a TMNT 2012 blog. If I get obsessed with something else, like the new Ducktales or something, I’ll start a different blog for that.

As for the finale tonight, let’s hope for the best and prepare for the worst (because let’s face it, the finales in this show… they hurt).

The show may be ending…

…but the fangirling won’t stop here!

Always Designate a Driver

@taylor-tut @whump-dump

Based off this “prompt”

Lance McClain prided himself on being a party person. He was always the first up on any birthday, making a special breakfast or bringing a special coffee (on the house, courtesy of Lance’s Starbucks employee discount). He enjoyed going out to clubs and dancing with his friends, even though he wasn’t a very big drinker. Hell, if Pidge invited him to 4AM mini golf in the dark he would go in a heartbeat.

Just not today.

Not when every inch of him ached. His limbs were heavy, gravity pulling each inch of him down to hell, slowly, slowly. Each individual ache added to the misery of the dull throbbing in his head, pain behind his eyes more than anything else. There was something sad about staying home to sleep, and not being quite able to get there.

Daddy For a Day

Bucky Barnes x Reader

Prompt: The reader has to take care of a realistic baby doll for class, and when she gets overloaded with homework and the baby, our favorite super soldier steps in to help.  What does seeing him with a baby do to her?

A/N: I totally stole this idea from @force-is-woke, or rather the person who sent her the prompt.  So the original prompt IS NOT mine, this is just how I envisioned it. (also you need to read her version which is Anatomy Project)

Also, This is my first Bucky fic! I honestly didn’t mean for it to end up with any smut, but here we are…

This has no beta, so please be kind!

Warnings: NSFW, slight smut(?), language, Daddy kink (could that even be considered Daddy Kink, I’ve got no idea) FLUUUUFFFFFFFF

Word Count: 2,840 (oops)

“Absolutely not.”  Tony’s mouth was set in a hard line, with his arms crossed tightly over his chest as he looked at the…robot in your arms.  “Real or not, there will be no babies in this tower!”

“But Tony!”  You pleaded, “I have to complete this project to pass my class!  Believe me, I don’t like it any more than you do!”  You tried your best to put your hand on your waist sassily to emphasize your point but ended up almost dropping the damn baby. Your less than graceful (but thankfully, successful!) recovery did nothing to help your case.

You couldn’t believe you had been able to sail straight through high school without being saddled with the dumb ‘parenting’ projects for Health Class and Home Ec only to be roped into them in graduate school.  Graduate school!  All because there had been a slight hiccup with your undergraduate planning.  Not anything you could control, really.  Your useless academic advisor had somehow missed three damn classes needed to get your degree. Ok, fine whatever.  What really pissed you off was that somehow you were still able to get your bachelor’s without them.  But your graduate program?  No.  They weren’t going to give you your Masters without them.

So here you were, in your final year of grad school, ready to take on the world…holding an electronic baby.  And with the look your Uncle Tony was giving the contraption, it was no mystery that he was regretting allowing you to stay with him and the other Avengers while you finished up school - to save on living expenses, of course.  It had absolutely nothing to do with the endless supply of eye candy roaming the tower.  Oh, no, nothing at all.  Especially not one particular super soldier who liked to throw his gorgeous hair up in man buns, and wear tight shirts, and - NO!

“You think I really wanted to be saddled with a middle school health project at this age?  Blame my inept university, not me!”  You hollered back to him as you made your way toward your room to set down the diaper bag and your purse before laying the doll on the bed.  With your hands on your hips, you examined the offending robot.  It was just a baby doll, complete with cartoonishly chubby cheeks, a head made out of hard plastic, a soft body, and a functioning voice box.  That was an interesting function to find out about.  You had been on your way home from class, the doll situated in its provided car seat in the back when it just started screaming and damn near causing you to run off the road.

Pulling the instructions out of the diaper bag, a scowl set upon your lips.  “Alright…Sammy.  You’re stuck with me this week, so let’s play nice, yeah?  It says here that you can detect the different levels of someone’s voice…and me yelling will only make you cry harder.  Wonderful.”

And, just because the universe has a horrid sense of humor, ’Sammy’ chose that very moment to start sobbing.

“Already?! Y/N, don’t make me evict you! Especially now that you’re a single mom.” Tony snickered from your doorway.

“It’s going to be a long fucking week.”

“Please stop crying Sammy, I need to finish this paper.” You begged the baby doll, bouncing it up and down on your hip after it had finished its bottle. “Go to sleep, Sammy, go to sleep.”  You hummed softly trying to soothe the damn thing.  You were all alone in the tower while everyone was out on missions.  You didn’t mind, though.  At least you didn’t have to deal with Clint and Sam making jabs at you about what a ‘functional single mother’ you are.

“So we’re playing house now?”  A low voice damn near made you jump out of your skin as you turned to the figure.

“God damn it Bucky, you almost made me drop the baby!”  You hissed quietly, trying to be as quiet in your threatening demeanor so as not to rile it up anymore.  “I thought everyone was gone for the week!”

“Finished my assignment early.”  He shrugged.  “Is there any particular reason you’ve got a doll, Doll?”  Bucky asked as he leaned against the counter opposite you, his thick arms crossing over his torso.  You rolled your eyes at him as he smirked.

“It’s for a class.” You sighed. “She’s mine for 4 more days.” You adjusted the doll in your arms, cradling its head as you laid it against your chest and shoulder. A smirk played at Bucky’s lips as you began to pat the doll’s back in an attempt to burp it. Sure enough, a few moments later, a fuzzy recording of a small burp emitted from the doll and you sighed in immense relief. “Oh thank god. Now she’ll sleep.”

Bucky watched curiously as you walked to the car seat you had perched on the couch, set the doll in, and pulled the blanket up over it.

“You’re taking this awfully seriously.” He mused, which earned him a sour look.

“I have to. She’s a top of the line model, complete with heat sensors, volume sensors, and pressure sensors. She’ll know if I’m actually holding her or just trying to fool her or being too loud. I have to treat her like a real life baby.” You went on to explain how you had to bounce it, burp it, feed it, change it, and even comfort it in any way you could. It was quite a realistic experience.

“I have to say Y/N, it’s pretty cute to see you doting over her like that.” And just like that, a blush spread over your cheeks.

“Thanks, Buck,” you murmured, “soak it in while you can! I don’t think you’ll ever see me do anything like it again!” You huffed as you returned to making the dinner Sammy had interrupted. Bucky’s steely eyes tracked you intently.

“Oh? Don’t think you’ll have kids?” You shrugged as you stirred the pasta sauce, picking up a spoonful and offering him a taste.

“I don’t know. I guess I’ve just never really considered it a possibility. I mean, I’m a Stark. We’re not exactly the ‘nurturing’ type.” Bucky hummed around the spoon, now leaning on the counter directly to your side.

“I think you’d make an excellent mother.” He said so surely that your heart thumped loudly in your chest. You examined him at this close distance, a smile playing its way to your lips.  Bucky had been your best friend since you stepped foot in this tower.  He also had you so sexually frustrated from his presence alone that you were often a clumsy goof around him.  A small smile crept across your face along with a blush before you turned the stove off and moved over to your laptop on the kitchen table.

“Right now, all I want to be is an excellent student.” You joked, attempting to diffuse the tension now so obviously hanging in the air around the two of you. “And that means writing this paper while that little bundle of joy isn’t making me want to rip my hair out.  What about you?  Ever thought of being a dad?”

“All the time, actually.  When I was younger, and you know - so was the world - I dreamed of coming home from the war, meeting a nice girl and settling down.  I’ve always wanted a daughter.  I’m not sure if it’s such a good idea anymore, though.”

“Why not?”  You all but shouted, immediately catching yourself before you woke the doll.  He didn’t need to answer you, he simply cocked an eyebrow and wiggled his metal fingers at you.  “Well, I think you’d make an excellent father.”  You admitted with a blush before you plugged yourself into your laptop and began typing away. You heard Bucky’s footsteps retreat, then the soft thump of his heavy body flopping on the couch before the TV turned on, the volume so low you questioned if it was even on. Looking up, you couldn’t help but bite your lip as you watched Bucky stare intently at the TV, his right hand softly rocking the baby’s seat next to him. The sweet and content, but somewhat robotic, gurgles became the background noise to your furious typing.

Oh yeah.  He’d definitely make a great dad.

It had to have been at least 2 hours later when you were jolted back to reality by the loud shriek emitting from the doll. "Oh God!” You all but sobbed, trying to gather the strength to make your way over to the baby.

But then it was over before it even began.  Lifting your head from your hands at breakneck speed, your eyes found the baby - being gently rocked in Bucky’s arms.  Oh my God.  If that isn’t the hottest thing I’ve ever seen…

“Buck?  What are you doing?”  A soft, melodic sound drifted through the air and with a start you realized Bucky was humming.  Bringing a finger up to his lips to silence you, he winked at you, looking back down at the doll.

“Comforting her.  C’mon now Sammy, Mommy’s got a lot of work to do.  What do you say we keep it down so she can get it all done and get back to you faster?”  His eyes were soft, just like the smile on his lips as he looked down at the intimate doll as if she were real.  As if she were his.  You swallowed thickly at the sight, lost in the way he regarded this toy with such adoration.

And then, a fucking miracle happened.  The shrieks stopped.  Followed immediately by those happy gurgles once more.  You mouth fell open as you watched Bucky rise from the couch, the doll held close to his broad chest, and make his way over to the diaper bag.  Fishing out the bottle, Bucky continued bouncing the doll as he hummed a low tune to it and slowly but surely the doll was lulled to sleep, the telltale sound of the recorded soft snores filling the living room.  And when his sweet blue eyes found yours, you knew there would be no finishing your paper tonight.

The chair scraped quietly against the floor as you stood from your seat, snapping your laptop shut.  Bucky’s eyes only left yours for the brief second it took to return the doll to her carrier, but then their intense gaze was once again locked on you.  Without so much as a word, you pressed right up against him, his breath fanning against your face as your lust blown eyes met his.

“Trying to get to me through my daughter, Barnes?”  You teased softly, your fingers bravely tangling with his.

“Is it working?”  He whispered, the warm flesh of his natural fingers brushing over your cheek.

“Maybe.”

“Then yes.”  And without wasting another moment, his lips were on yours.  A moan ripped its way from your throat at the first feel of him.  It wasn’t like you hadn’t thought about it before because, Christ just look at the man, but nothing prepared you for the way he felt.  His strong hands found their way around you quickly, one settling softly on your hip as the other cradled your face.  When they suddenly gripped the back of your thighs and hauled you up, you shrieked, wrapping your legs around his waist immediately.  “Shh,” he taunted, “you’ll wake the baby.”

“She can kiss my - oh!”  All thoughts fled your brain as his teeth sank down against your collarbone.

“That’s my job.”  He growled, eyes dark.

“Bucky.  Bedroom.”  You hissed.  The super soldier needed no more instruction.

With long, determined strides, Bucky carried you to your room and plopped you on the bed before falling to his knees in front of you.  “Bucky!”  Your pants and panties were gone in a flash, ripped from your now goosebumps covered legs, and then his hands were on you - pushing your thighs apart.

“Y/N,” he all but moaned as he kissed down your body, “God, you’re beautiful. I could just look at you all day.”  His fingers trailing the insides of your thighs made it very difficult to answer.  But somehow you found a way.

“Bucky, if you don’t touch me-ah!”  And just like that, your head was tossed back, cries echoing through the room as his metal fingers glided up and down the part of you that longed for him the most.

“God, you’re so wet already.  This wouldn’t have anything to do with seeing me with the baby, would it?”  You wanted to answer him, you really did.  But the way his fingers skirted around your panties and met your flesh full on had you biting a damn hole into your lip.  All you could do was nod.  “Hmm, really?  I’m not going to lie, seeing you bouncing a baby on your hip didn’t leave me unaffected either.  Helps that she had my hair.”  He winked down at you, licking his lips playfully.

“Oh yeah, because the baby’s plastic hair being brown definitely makes it seem like she’s yours.”  You quipped down at him, somehow still as sarcastic as always even with James Buchanan Barnes nestled comfortably between your legs.  He smirked as he inched in closer, humming against the inside of your left thigh.

“I wouldn’t mind it, you know.”  He drawled as his tongue darted out to draw slow circles on your thigh now.  “Seeing you,” lick, “caring for,” suck, “my kid.”  And then he was on you and your back arched, a high pitched scream filled the room.

Followed by the sounds of a baby crying.

“Don’t you dare!”  You growled, nails digging into Bucky’s shoulder blades when he made to get up.

“You’re the one who said you wanted to be a good student.”  He tsked, winking down at you when he rose to his feet.  You watched helplessly as he fled the room, and remained gone for close to 4 minutes.  When he returned, you propped yourself up on your shoulders and did you best to glare at him indignantly.  But when he shed his remaining clothes, there was no hiding the lust dancing in your eyes.  “At least one of us cares about your grades.”  He chuckled as he stalked back to the bed, kneeling between your spread legs and tearing at your shirt and bra.  You swore you could’ve cum from the look he was giving you alone.

“What did you do?”  You huffed, jealous that he was able to get the doll to shut up so quickly.

“Well, Daddy duty called,” he growled as he crawled up your body, and he definitely didn’t miss the way you bit your lip and shivered at the word.  Long fingers curled around your thighs and he brought them to his hips, encouraging your legs to squeeze tight around him.  “Now, where were we?”  And with a snap of his hips, he was fully sheathed inside you.

“Oh, Da-“

“-ddy!”

Bucky blinked slowly as he woke up, looking over at the clock on the bedside table.  3:27 a.m.  And here he thought he might actually get some sleep tonight.  You had done an awfully good job at wearing him out after all.  You, and -

“Princess!”  He chuckled as tiny feet made their way across the bed.  “Why are you awake my darling?”

“I had a nightmare.”  The toddler pouted, plopping down on the bed between you and your husband.  This effectively woke you up.

“What’s wrong, sweetheart?”  You asked groggily, holding your hand out.  She held it tightly as she cast her eyes down and recounted the horrible dream of being taken away by the bad men that her poor Daddy has to fight on a daily basis.

“C’mere baby.”  Bucky beckoned with open arms.  Without any hesitation, your daughter all but launched into his arms, earning a deep chuckle from your husband.  “You know Daddy would never let anything happen to you, right?”  She nodded vigorously.

“But Daddy, what if they hurt you?”  She emphasized, her lips setting into a firm pout.  The same pouting face that you sport from time to time.

“Well, then I guess it’s a good thing that I’ve got my girls!”  He cried, wiggling fingers tickling the squealing child.  “No one can hurt me with such amazing heroes to protect me!”  He continued his assault, tickling the little girl as you joined in as well.  Little giggles filled the room before huffing breaths alerted you to her tired state.  With a large yawn and a kiss to both parents’ cheeks, she snuggled into Bucky’s chest and fell fast asleep.

“I love you,”  you murmured against his lips.  “And I love how much you love our baby.”

“I love you too.”  He replied, slinging his arm around the both of you, cuddling you in tight and placing a kiss on both of your foreheads.  “And I love that you gave her to me.”
