Strong Woman Do Bong Soon Episode 16 (FINAL)

It all ends the way it started. With grown men getting a beating from a tiny little woman, but this time around there’s two of them and the mobsters still run in fear and tears. Also, they were their babysitters.

Personally, I through-fully enjoyed the mobsters storyline from beginning to end, and it’s so like them to get conned and end up in embarrassment yet again. In their defense, they are like a phoenix that keeps on rising from the ashes, again and again. And despite their ways, they were kind of good guys once you got to know them and kept them in line.

Another incredibly funny storyline were the neighborhood kids, who I was sorry to not see at Bong-soon’s wedding, and just kept brining laugher with every scene they were at. Their journey was equally enjoyable as the mobsters, sometimes even more because theirs was a love story with their Noonim. And I love how they went to have a little talk with Min-hyuk to know more about his intentions with their boss. I love even more than he had no idea Bong-soon had this group of high-school kids patrolling the neighborhood too. HAHAHAHA!

Also, it was good that the show clarified that Mom didn’t use physical violence against Dad *that* time around. I still believe that the show didn’t portray this woman in the right way and that her journey wasn’t all that. She’s still the bully she was at 19, the only difference is that she doesn’t use her fists. Should I be applauding this? And I would have like for Dad to make an stand other than to leave the house, for example, how about a real talk between them? He was such an endearing, honest and good character thorough out the show that I grew to love him as I love our leads. He is precious. It gives me hope that the last scene between him and Mom was much more peaceful than usually when Gook-doo’s mom was involved.

Speaking for which, can we all agree that it’s time Ji-soo starts getting leading man roles? I enjoyed him as a second lead but I didn’t connect with his character more than I did today. Ji-soo it’s at his best when he has an actual emotional storyline to work with, and in this episode Gook-doo was earnest to a fault, which made me feel all he was feelings. I love that despite being heartbroken he put his friendship with Bong-soon before anything else, because that’s what truly mattered to him. It wasn’t about winning over the girl, but about keeping her in his life because the friendship they shared is that important to him.

I’m also happy awesome bro Bong-ki got some screen time too. This was such a good character, just like Dad, and I was sorry we didn’t get to see more of him. I also think his storyline with Hee-ji was a little rushed at the end. And it doesn’t seem like it because Bong-ki spent a lot of time healing broken bones (thanks to his sis) but this relationship was really put to a test: Gook-doo found out not only that he had been lying through out their entire lives by keeping Bong-soon’s secret but also that his girlfriend was attracted to his best friend. So I appreciate how their friendship remained strong even after everything they went through.

As for other characters like Secretary Gong and Mr. Oh, they were another great comedy act. Especially when they were together and I love how their bromance was born by getting to know each other better through their shared experiences with Bong-soon’s abilities. Pffft!

Finally, Min-kyuk really changed through the story: started as a lonely guy looking for protection from his own family and ending up as a man with a family to protect. He was smart, honest and assertive from day one, and not once he tried to change Bong-soon into something she wasn’t. The greatest attribute Min-hyuk had was that he never made Bong-soon feel that she had to hide from the world, what’s more he even encouraged and helped her to be more like her true self and come into her powers. He always tried to be there for his girl but was more than willing to be a proud onlooker when the time called for it and let Bong-soon do what she had to do.

Bong-soon’s journey was also something to witness. When we first met her she was hiding from the world, afraid of her powers and by extention herself. These abilities she was born with had made her an outcast despite her spunk and outgoing personality, she was confident but had insecurities. Some of them born out of crush and others from the idea society holds on how a woman should be and behave.

I liked how the show connected her personal life with the city’s problems, because in a way they are one and the same, by having her best friend being kidnapped by the resident psycho. It was a good move since she was already gaining the confidence to do more with her powers by watching the news, her interactions with the mobsters and the neighborhood’s kids and Min-hyuk, who knew from day one about her powers and didn’t rejected her. He thought she was sexy! All of these factors made Bong-soon want to become the heroine of her life (beyond a video game) and I really loved to see her grow into a truly strong woman ready to take on the world.

Strong Woman Do Bong Soon wasn’t a perfect show but it was really entertaining and sweet, made me swoon and laugh out loud more than twice per episode, and I’m going to miss these characters and their shenanigans!!

PS: Did you guys catch how the Mobsters were shook at Mr. Oh’s resemble to their former associate -Gwan-bok- through the wedding photoshoot? LMAO!!

Strong Woman Do Bong Soon Episode 04

First things first: did Gook-do’s girlfriend lie to him about being out of town? And went to meet his childhood friend? Seriously? What is she thinking? She’s so ending up in the killer’s kidnapping list.

Which takes me to the mystery at hand: today I can safely say that the killer is not Bong-ki (didn’t really believe it for a second) nor the mafia guys tailing Bong-soon. By the way, that entire thing was hilarious and I’m dying to see how it plays out in future episodes. Are they trying to recruit her? If yes, I’m dying of laughter since she’s already the Boss in the neighborhood. Those high school kids were pretty funny too, I was lol-ing through the entire scene. And as a finishing touch, the two mobsters getting all excited about witnessing an UFO has to be the most hilarious scene of the entire episode.

By the way, how does the Mafia Boss know about Min-hyuk? Is it because they keep tabs of all important CEOs or is it regarding his father’s past? I’m more inclined for the latter and I’m sure this storyline it will comeback to us in the long run, and even will have something to do with catching the killer and Min-hyuk’s stalker, who now I believe it’s not the same person.

That’s right, methinks today we got more clues that we are dealing with two different criminals: the stalker harassing Min-hyuk and the killer kidnapping the young women. For one, the first seems to have a very detailed goal and that it’s getting Min-hyuk out of the family business. In this case, I have to assume it’s indeed one of his older brothers trying to get the company for themselves. What other reason could it be to do all this?

The second criminal also has a plan but it has nothing to do with Min-hyuk or a business, he’s just a crazy man harming random people he feels attracted to.

Also, today we got to see Bong-soon have a change of attitude towards Gook-do. Don’t get me wrong, she’s still crushing on him but now she’s getting fed up of his rants and also making unflattering and unexcited faces when she sees his name on the caller ID. What a difference from the first episode!

I liked it when we can see the friendship between Gook-do and Bong-soon, it makes me understand why she likes him despite his cold attitude. Gook-do is all business, most of the time, and it’s makes him a pain but also someone to admire since he is honest and hardworking. The scene where they are talking outside her house made me see more into their relationship, and I think he honestly doesn’t know about her crush because he wouldn’t be this way otherwise. He cares too much and he has demonstrated it by being all up her business and giving her advice on how to avoid dangerous situations.

The thing is Gook-do is convinced Bong-soon is some sort of delicate flower so in a way, despite of being together for so many years, he doesn’t really know her. I’m looking forward for him to find out the truth about her powers, although I admit is pretty hilarious how oblivious he is to what’s under his nose.

It was also nice to see a more vulnerable side of Bong-soon since she is always wearing a tough attitude, but watching her crying her eyes out at the movie theatre, getting drunk and dancing to forget her worries was not only hilarious but also a different person. But we also got to see her cool side, a là Kevin Costner, and also her more feminine and sensitive side when she was taking care of Min-hyuk, who noticed every single thing about our leading lady.

If Min-hyuk was smitten before, after today he’s a goner. Watching him tear up in front of that breakfast made me want to cry, imagining how long must have been since he had a proper meal. One that he can appreciate and from someone he cares about.

We already knew that after his mother’s death, he was isolated and didn’t get along with his older brothers; but what was shown to us today was straight up bullying. How many years did he have to endure it? What’s more, now he chooses to make a closet the door to his safe place because it’s a way to battle his demons face on. And in that door the painting of the woman who saved his life many years ago. Hasn’t he made the connection that Bong-soon and the woman are one and the same? I wonder how will he react when he realizes…

Bong-soon and Min-hyuk had a lot of development, although small and slow, they are not in the same place as before. Min-hyuk is definitely interested in more than just a professional relationship now, just look at him talking all sweetly and like an Oppa on the phone the morning after they went out. And while Bong-soon remains unimpressed, I’m starting to see her care more for him with each episode. So darn cute, guys. See ya at the wedding!

You know who else notices things? Kyung-shim, who accurately points out Min-hyuk isn’t gay at all. Yes, girl, you are right. Also, can I point out that Bong-soon’s bestie is awesome and endearing, and that Bong-ki seems to have thing for her? Or am I imagining things? Yes? No? I mean, I think they are pretty cute together and have an easy going relationship. I ship it.

Another week of two good, solid episodes of Strong Woman Do Bong-soon and I’m officially hooked. Looking forward to more clues about the crimes and character development next week!

Strong Woman Do Bong-soon Episode Episode 09

I would not want to be Gook-doo right now. His girlfriend left him for his childhood friend, who also has feeling for her, and he just realized he has liked Bong-soon for year… just in time to see her falling for someone else. And to top it all finally figuring out who is the criminal behind the kidnappings just to be pulled out of the case. WHAT GIVES!

But the silver lightning is that the investigation team were finally able to crack the case and figure out who the real culprit is. The bad news is that they have no authority nor jurisdiction over the case due to political measures made based on media attention and pressure. How will they be able to catch this awful man? I doubt there will be teamwork with the new team in charge of the case, so… what? Are they going rogue on this?

On the mobster front, though, peace has finally be reached. Mr. Baek’s organization will no longer be going after Bong-soon nor try to have any association with her in the future. They are left in awe and shook, though… and I wonder how long they will be able to stay away with this viral video going around tarnishing their reputation. Pfffft! Oh, those neighborhood kids are the running joke that keeps on giving.

I don’t know if this will happen, but I would really like for the mobsters, the kids and the police to team with Bong-son in order to catch the man kidnaping the young women. After all, it’s their neighborhood and it’s on everyone’s interest to keep it safe, for personal and professional reasons.

And can we just take a moment to appreciate how subtly Min-hyuk has become part of Bong-soon’s family unit? I’m so happy he has found what can be described as a caring and nurturing family who want to take care of him and spoil him when he’s down. And he’s really enjoying it too. Good.

Today’s scene with his father showed two things: One, Dad doesn’t know how to express his love. He clearly cares (exhibit A: Mr. Baek’s face) but he’s going all wrong about it. And, two, they still have unresolved issues between them (exhibit B: his mother’s death) which I hope they can work out. I have a feeling Dad is all goo on the inside when it comes to his kids. And especially Min-hyuk.

What about Bong-soon finally being able to feel good about her powers? That’s a gem of character development right there and it’s a long time coming. I love to see her achieve a new sense of self-worth with each decision she takes. Every episode Bong-soon is taking a step closer to becoming an even more amazing, independent and strong woman. Not only physically but also mentally and emotionally. And while she has gone great lengths by herself, she also has Min-hyuk to thank for his. He has been part on her finding herself and meaning to her power just by supporting her. That’s all he did and it was more than enough. I say he’s a keeper.

Which is why, to me, the real treat tonight was the development between Bong-soon and Min-hyuk. The latter having realized his feelings almost from the very begging and slowly taking steps towards her, today those feelings cemented with the discovery that Bong-soon was the one who saved him many years ago. So precious, I think she’s his first real love.

As for Bong-soon, methinks she’s already in a place where she knows she has feeling for him too. Thought the entire episode there was something running deep between then and it wasn’t just gratitude, it was something else. Why else would they have that very charged moment at the hospital room? He knows, she knows, we all know.

My question is how will Bong-soon go about it from now on? To me is clear how she feels but she has liked Gook-doo for such a long time, I’m afraid she will have trouble coming to terms with her growing feelings for Min-hyuk.

REALLY looking forward to tomorrow’s episode and some answers too.
