Hyde and Jackie as parents headcanons, part 2 of 2.
PS: I did these a while ago but somehow got lost in my other blog (poetdameron), so I re-write them here.
Kitty calls every day, even when they see each other. She calls to ask how the baby is doing and when the kid grows, she calls to talk to her/him. Baby Zen (1) loves to talk to Kitty, especially once she is older and she can gossip about school and the stories her mom told her, while Baby Boy Zen is more shy but likes to talk to grandma too, Baby Zen (2) doesn’t like phones because like dad, she thinks the goverment may be into something with the phone lines and Jackie wants to kill Hyde.
They also enjoys spending time with Red. When Baby Zen (1) was a newborn, she cried when passed to someone’s arms that weren’t her parent’s, but she never cried even once when given to Red. He won’t accept it, but the sight of it warmed his entire self and he pretended to be bothered by having to carry the baby when Hyde or Jackie were needed in the kitchen or somewhere else, but Kitty knows better. Eventually, the kid got used to everyone else and the crying stopped.
Jackie’s bedtime stories are always about her, and her favorites to tell are the ones that involve Steven. Once their little girls are older, they will ask for these stories about their parents and then go to their dad and ask about it. The first two or three times, Hyde told them the truth: “I went to jail for her because she was too young, had a future, I just couldn’t let her that way”, “Uhm, well… I wanted your mom to caught uncle Kelso because he and Laurie were annoying…”, but then he would listen to what Jackie is telling their daughters and would discover that maybe his chick isn’t making anything up, maybe all that time he did have feelings for her that then leaned to romantic feelings too. Now, every time their daughters tell him what Jackie said, he smiles and “that’s how it was, kiddo, all of it” “you punched a nasty guy because you liked her even before you were together?” “yup, all those years without she even knowing it. Actually, i did it twice, there was this moron who was bothering her and he was dressed as this ass of a dog…”
And of course Hyde is scared shit of not being a good father, so he low key talks all the time with Red about it. Once Eric becomes a dad too, he starts feeling better about himself when he can give his friend advice and finally notices he isn’t a bad father at all. In fact, he does it pretty good, is almost natural to him. Jackie says is because he has too much of a good heart, and he is sweet, it was obvious he was the perfect man to become a father.
Baby Zen (1) also adores her da, she is totally a daddy’s girl. And is so obvious Hyde spoils her, everyone teases him about it, and Jackie is proud of it because “she make Steven J. Hyde a good daddy”. Hyde kind of agrees secretely. Their boy is a big mama’s boy in a cool way, he will do whatever Jackie wants and have a more open relationship with her, always listening to her advice and so, but he wont’ be on her tit all the time. He is truly a very zen person, but can get bitchy very easily and over protective with both his sisters. Baby Zen (2) is… a mess. She is okay with both her parents, but prefers uncle Eric’s advices, she’s kind of a nerd and a rebel at the same time. Kitty says she is just searching for her identity, Hyde says she will conquer space one day since she wants to be an astronaut and first person to pee on Mars.
He always talks to their sons in third person: “Okay, now please don’t make a fuzz while your pa makes breakfast”, “Your ma is going to work today, so you will go with pa to Grooves”, he only does it when nobody is around. Jackie has catched him a couple of times and doesn’t understand why he gets blushed for it, she thinks is adorable.
She loves dressing their kids, she takes them for shopping every time she can and tries to pass her knowledge on fashion and so to them. There is no way her daughters will ever been seen dressed like poor girls, they are always looking freaking cute and nice, while there isn’t most adorable and then handsome boy than hers (as a matter of fact, Baby Boy Zen is handsome, everyone jokes he got the best genes from his parents put together into one not pretty, but actual handsome boy).
“YOU ARE NOT PUTTING THOSE ON OUR PRIN– STEVEN!”, there was this one time Hyde buy himself a new pair of sunglasses and found the same model but for kids, so of course he buy them for his older daughter, who’s his little princess no matter how much time passes. Worst part is, the girl loves those glasses because it make her look like da, so she won’t put them away, and Jackie can’t argue against that. Hyde enjoys the little victories of life, that’s for sure.
idk if you're still doing the domesticity meme but if you are jackie/hyde!
big spoon/little spoon: Jackie is the little spoon, obvs
favorite non-sexual activity: Listen my ultimate headcanon is that these two are just like… two halves of the same whole. They just hang out all the time without getting bored, y’know? They like going grocery shopping together at night time, because they can do stupid stuff like race each other down the aisles on trolleys. Sometimes Jackie just sits in the trolley and talks while Hyde picks everything up, and it’s like this surreal little break from the outside world.
who uses all the hot water: Jackie and Hyde HATES it (except he doesn’t, because Jackie’s ingenious solution to this is that they shower together) (that doesn’t really work much better, lol, so now he has to drag himself out of bed at 6 in the morning to beat Jackie to it)
most trivial thing they fight over: Everyyyyything. Jackie leaving her wet towels everywhere. Hyde’s refusal to watch sappy rom-coms with her. The fact that she takes six hours to leave the house and they’re always late. Hyde not wearing a jacket even though it’s negative one billion degrees outside.
who does most of the cleaning: Mrs Forman lmao Hyde cleans up as he goes for things like cooking, and Jackie enjoys having a gleaming bathroom so she cleans that, but neither of them vacuum ever and its lowkey gross
what has a season pass on their dvr/who controls the netflix queue: Jackie gets the Netflix queue and Hyde is always annoyed that he can never find anything good amongst the six hundred reality shows
who calls up the super/landlord when the heat’s not working: Jackie since Hyde will usually try and fix it first.
who leaves their stuff around: Jackie - she’s used to having a maid come round and pick it up for her, so she forgets sometimes that now she has to take care of stuff herself. Hyde is tidy as a force of habit from his childhood - if you left anything out it either got broke or stolen.
who remembers to buy the milk: Hyde
who remembers anniversaries: They both remember the important ones, but for the first few years of their relationship Jackie seems to remember all of these random ones (first time they saw a movie together, first time he made her breakfast..). Hyde’s started to think she’s just making them up.
Who cooks normally? Hyde
How often do they fight? They bicker a lot and about everything, but proper, serious fights only happen every few months.
What do they do when they’re away from each other? Act as if they’re fine even though they miss the hell out of each other, probably. When Jackie is living on campus for college she wears Hyde’s Zeppelin t-shirt almost constantly. She leaves Fluffycakes at Hyde’s apartment “by accident” and it totally, definitely doesn’t make him a little happy to see that reminder of her.
Nicknames for each other? “Puddin’ pop” and “Doll”, still.
Who is more likely to pay for dinner? In the early stages of their relationship, Hyde, because he’s got that whole “man of the house” type psychology, and Jackie thinks that’s the man’s job also. As they’ve been together for longer Jackie likes to take him to dinner to celebrate special occasions and eventually he doesn’t mind because he realises that’s just part of how she expresses her love.
Who steals the covers at night? Neither, really. If Jackie gets to bed first then she bundles herself up a bit like a cocoon, and Hyde doesn’t have the heart to pry them from her grip so he can slip under too. They have extra blankets for occasions like these, lol.
What would they get each other for gifts? Jackie takes the opportunity to buy stuff she otherwise couldn’t for him, since he can’t reject stuff if it’s a gift, right? Clothes, normally. I’m also 100% behind her making mixtapes for him (which, btw, is canon and I love it).
Hyde buys her cute things that he just kind of sees, even though he’d deny that? Like a fridge magnet with a grasshopper on it, or an air freshener called “sunshine”. For birthdays/Christmas he forks out occasionally and gets her jewellery.
Who kissed who first? Mutual
Who made the first move? I mean… they both do? I guess you could say Jackie because she pushes for him to admit it’s not a fling “first”? Or you could say Hyde because he kicked it all off with prom….
Who remembers things? Jackie remembers “superficial” stuff like what days shows are on, when they’re running out of shampoo, what day the bills need to be paid by, etc. Hyde is the one who knows when they need butter, or that the thermostat’s broken. He also remembers which days they’re supposed to be visiting the Formans.
Who started the relationship? Again….. both???
Who cusses more? HYDE. And Jackie grills him about it but doesn’t mind too much because it lowkey turns her on.
What would they do if the other was hurt? After Black Dog I feel like Hyde would finally get that he just needs to hold her. Maybe he’d take her out for a greasy meal as comfort food while he lets her rant it out.
Jackie would know when to push him into talking about it and when to back off and let Hyde deal with it himself. For the latter I think she’d either give him space or put on one of his movies and then just sit with him until he was ready to talk about it. Or she’d hug him. Probably that. If anyone needs a hug it’s Steven Hyde, okay??
I got bored the other day and began to rewatch That 70′s Show minus season 8 of course because that season makes me physically ill. Anyway a decade later and I’m still bitter about what they did to Jackie & Hyde as characters and way salty that they weren’t endgame, although in my mind they are because I do not recognize anything that happens after Eric leaves as canon. It’s all a nightmare or a way bad circle or acid trip. What I don’t get the most is Sam. She was clearly a plot device, a way to drive a wedge between Jackie & Hyde.
“A plot device is an object or character in the story whose purpose is purely to drive the Plot, maintain its flow, or resolve situations within it. There are plenty of good stories which do indeed revolve around a plot device; equally, a plot device can very easily be used to generate conflict and thus spark a character-driven story.”
This is, with good writing, what Sam should been. Jackie & Hyde were antagonistic to each other all season, a pretty clear indicator that they weren’t over each other, regardless of the way the writers completely disregarded their relationship. When Sam left that should have put Jackie & Hyde on the path to reconciliation. I barely watched season 8 so I may recall some things wrongly, but I think there were 4 or 5 episodes after Sam left, therefore they had plenty of time to work it out even if they didn’t end up together until the finale. Even if they were not together-together they could have hinted at them possibly winding up together.
Also, making Sam already married to another man, thereby invalidating her & Hyde’s marriage was not only a slap in the face to the viewers, but incredibly bad story telling what was the purpose of her being in the show. Of course, her purpose was to break up Jackie & Hyde, but she was unnecessary seeing as how Jackie & Hyde already had the Kelso drama part 2. They changed Hyde’s entire characterization for something that ending up being null and void. It was utterly ridiculous that they expected the viewers to buy Hyde would stay married to someone he didn’t even know and married while he was drunk, when he had a hard time wanting to marry the love of his life, not because he didn’t love Jackie but because he didn’t want to be married period.
It made zero sense especially when he saw that it was hurting Jackie. Despite Hyde’s zen he was a caring, compassionate person with a good heart. The writers turned him into a bitter drunk without compassion for the woman he once loved. We’re excepted to believe Hyde would actually call her a bitch when he punched a guy out for calling her a bitch back when he supposedly hated her. Which I don’t think he ever actually hated her he found her annoying sure but hated her nope.
On to the Jackie & Fez thing, it was WAY TOO LATE to put them together. In the first maybe 3 seasons it would have worked, but what was the point of building up Jackie & Hyde’s relationship for 7 seasons if they weren’t endgame. Once they decided to put Jackie & Hyde together that should have been a wrap like a Kitty & Red wrap. I always thought the were built up to be the next Kitty & Red anyway.
TL;DR A decade later and I’m still bitter about Jackie & Hyde!!!!!
I have a lot to catch up on! This is just the first installment!
Anonymous said: So does Hyde buy his own clothes? Or does Jekyll have to go out and purchase clothes that are way too small for himself?
Most likely scenario: During his second transformation, Rachel found Hyde scuttling around the scaffolding of Jekyll’s house and was horrified at his ill-fitting clothes–doesn’t he know how to dress himself?? She asked Jekyll if she could take out money to buy Hyde some fitted basics and has been his wardrobe consultant ever since.
(Note: She likes playing dress-up with boys and will sometimes make little bits of clothing for Jekyll and the Lodgers.)
Anonymous said to glass-scientists: Can we expect to meet Dr. Lanyon in the nearby future?
The very near future! But we have a very important someone to introduce first …
Anonymous said to glass-scientists: Hey Sabrina, did you hear about the 25th anniversary of Jekyll and Hyde happening this year? It’s got Anthony Warlow in it and everything!
I am genuinely surprised the Jekyll and Hyde musical managed to earn a 25th Anniversary Concert. Is it going to be like the Les Mis concert where several actors sing songs together? … oh my God, are we finally going to have a properly staged Confrontation? Or will it just be like, five actors all singing both parts and flailing about onstage?
Anonymous said: Hey! I just want to say I’m a biiiiiig fan of your work, and your style and lines are simply fantastic. I love The Glass Scientists and I’m so so glad you’re developing this great idea!
Thank you so much!! :D I’m glad you’re enjoying it!
Anonymous said to glass-scientists: Are Jekyll and Hyde on a first-name-basis with each other? Like, would Jekyll go “Shut up, Edward” or “Shut up, Hyde”. How would they talk to each other?
They switch it out depending on their mood:
Hyde often uses belittling pet names for Jekyll when he’s in a playful mood, like “my dear doctor,” “good sir,” or “dearest.” He calls him “Jekyll” when he’s pissed off or needs to get Jekyll’s attention quickly. “Henry” tends to come out when Hyde feels frightened or powerless.
Jekyll only uses “Edward” or “Hyde” when he’s scolding or otherwise trying to control Hyde. Most of the time he doesn’t call Hyde by any name at all–an indicator, perhaps, that Jekyll doesn’t see Hyde as a separate entity but rather as a dark aspect of himself.
Anonymous said to glass-scientists: Also, I have it in my head that Jasper’s trans, and hope that’s alright. I just… See a lot of myself in him. Which might be odd, since we’re just starting to get to know him, but I digress. He’s adorable, you’re awesome, etc. etc.. G'day.
Of course it’s all right!! I’m glad you’re able to identify with him. I’ve got a lot planned for Jasper so I hope you enjoy where his story leads. :D For story purposes, I’m trying to keep details about Jasper under wraps for now (which I realize is not an ideal situation, representation-wise) but head-canons are always welcome! :)
Even though the
series finale doesn’t give us of Jackie and Hyde, I really like how we
see some really sweet moments between Hyde and the other important woman
in Hyde’s life, Kitty.
Earlier in the episode we see Hyde buying
Red Packer tickets to help get him to stay in Place because he knows
Kitty has has second thoughts about moving. We even see Kitty giving him
a big, long hug.
And then during Kitty’s emotional speech she
calls Hyde “my second son” and tells him how much she adores him. This
is probably one of the sweetest parts in the episode, the smile that
Hyde gives at hearing this is the cutest. Even if it’s kinda hidden by the mustache.
Also gotta love the fact
that it’s Kitty who is the one to tell Hyde he needs to shave that 40
year-old male prostitute mustache off.
But the moment between
Hyde and Kitty in this episode that is really cute and makes their
mother-son relationship feel even more real is this moment here
following the last Foot in the Ass of the decade…
They clink their drinks together in a toast! It’s a little moment but a really sweet little moment.
This is also the last shot of the series that we see of Red and Kitty.
ooh okay i dunno if you're still doing the ship meme thing but if you are, would you mind doing greed pair? (^o^)/ (also am a big fan of gpf on ao3, your writing is amazing~~)
Yep, I was still taking asks when you sent this (like… two weeks ago) so sure thing, will do! I’m actually surprised nobody asked for Greed Pair earlier X’D Sorry for the delay, I totally underestimated the work! Also, thanks a lot for the compliment, glad you like GPF! <3 Alrighty then, back to familiar waters with a ship I know… oh wow, I made an accidental pun! Anyway. Here you go~
Drinks all of the coffee: Hyde in the morning because he’s absolutely not a morning person, and traveling around with Licht requires a lot of getting up early. There’s no way a night owl like him could manage that without coffee! Licht usually doesn’t like coffee because it’s way too bitter, but sometimes he’ll drink it before a late concert to keep himself awake and focused. Sometimes he also drinks it to battle his jet lag, in which case he and Hyde may both want to drink all the coffee in the morning and end up fighting over every drop.
Brings up adopting a pet: Licht, every goddamn time they pass a cute dog, cat, bunny, or basically anything cute and fluffy, ever. Hyde absolutely doesn’t like it and complains because Angel-chan already has a super-cute pet (i.e. him), and Licht snaps at him that he doesn’t count and that he wants a real pet that’s not an annoying demon who won’t shut up. Lucky for Hyde, Crantz doesn’t allow Licht to get another pet, because otherwise he’d definitely get jealous. It’s bad enough when Licht showers cat Kuro or fox Tsubaki with affection while completely ignoring him.
Kills the bugs: Hyde, to Licht’s complete and utter disdain. Licht is fascinated by the small creatures and treats them as his friends (like all animals), so he doesn’t even want them to leave the house, let alone allow Hyde to kill them, but Hyde would rather not share his home with a zillion bugs and hunts them anyway. Licht tries to sneak the bugs out before Hyde can get them and treats it as a huge adventure and rescue mission. The only bugs he has absolutely zero sympathy for are mosquitos; he says they remind him of a certain other bloodsucker and kills them without remorse.
Cooks the meals: On the rare occasions when they have time to cook for themselves and don’t eat at a hotel or something, it’s Licht. His grandma taught him when he was little, and he enjoys it a lot, saying it’s art and comparing it to music and other stuff Hyde doesn’t really get. What Hyde does get is that Angel-chan’s food is absolutely delicious, and he gushes over it whenever Licht makes any. Licht himself takes pride in the high praise (even if he gets grumpy) and loves cooking for Hyde because the happy face he makes when he eats is the biggest compliment ever.
Starts getting into holidays way before they should: Hyde about Halloween, Licht about Christmas. Hyde always starts with the spookiness in August and comes home with pumpkins to carve and costumes and trying to talk Licht into wearing matching costumes and making plans to go trick-or-treating (Licht’s favorite part of Halloween because of the candy). Meanwhile, Licht gets shiny eyes when the first Christmas decoration appears in stores in September, and when the time comes he’ll drag Hyde to every Christmas market they come across on their tours and marvel at the lights and eat his way through all the food stalls. Licht is excited like a child when it comes to Christmas, and Hyde kind of understands because it’s his birthday and all, but he still thinks it’s beyond adorable.
Initiates the couple selfies: Hyde, always. He’s constantly looping an arm around his boyfriend’s shoulders and grinning at his phone camera and telling him to say cheese, and Licht is less than amused and usually just scowls at the camera because he doesn’t want yet another picture of himself with this annoying ball of energy clinging to him. Hyde isn’t detained by that and just keeps taking pics while making increasingly silly poses next to a scowling Angel-chan, and eventually they get so ridiculous that even Licht “Grumpyface” Jekylland Todoroki can’t keep a straight face anymore and cracks a grin. And then, of course, there are the pics where Licht is fine with being photographed and poses for the camera like the angel he is; those are among Hyde’s favorites.
Forgets the birthdays and anniversaries: Licht, at first, kinda. He doesn’t realize he’s never asked for Hyde’s birthday until the day arrives and the others tell him, and even though he pretends not to care it’s still nagging him and he’s really really embarrassed. He winds up going out and buying Hyde a gift, and even though it’s just some ham and a new scarf because the old one had some holes in it, Hyde is totally overjoyed and treasures both gifts forever. As for their anniversary, they don’t even really have one– getting together was such a long process for them that they can’t pinpoint the exact day they became a couple and often fight over which day they think it was.
Always ends up with too much junk food after grocery shopping: Licht all the way. He always buys way too much sweet stuff that gives Hyde cavities just from looking at it, and Hyde complains about it because all those snacks take up so much space in the shopping cart that he can’t put his own snacks in anymore. Licht adamantly refuses to take any of his sweet treats back out of the cart for Hyde’s weird salty snacks, and they squabble and fight over it until Crantz turns up, takes half of Licht’s snacks back out of the cart because Licht has to watch his health, and drags them both to the cash desk and out of the store.
Nicknames the other: Both of them, but in… different ways. Hyde’s nicknames for Licht (Lichtan or Angel-chan) are more affectionate while Licht’s nicknames for Hyde are all insults, and they call each other by their nicknames so much that their real names basically take up the function normally reserved for nicknames. They only ever call each other “Licht” and “Hyde” when things are really serious, especially during heartfelt confessions or other emotional moments.
And that’s it for this ship meme! Whew, I still can’t believe I’m done! Now all I have to do is answer all the other asks waiting in my inbox (I’ve made some of you wait for literal weeks, shame on me) and then I’ll be back on track. Sorry for taking so long and thanks for your patience!
HC where Hyde gets so sick he can't maintain human form and Licht, Krantz and/or Guil have to take care of him in his hedgehog form?
First of all, I’m cheating~. These two asks were similar(ish) so I’m going to cheat and smush the two of them together. Second, let it be known I spent like 45 minutes googling how to care for a sick hedgehog for this ask, and now I feel so educated:
Licht makes a special little bed of shredded paper and tiny pillows for Hyde to rest in. Hyde takes to burrowing into it and suffering alone.
Guil’s torn between scolding Hyde for letting it get so bad and patting him on the head soothingly.
Kranz announces Hyde’s illness on the blog he runs and it just explodes; all the followers of the blog want to wish Hyde well and hope that he gets better soon.
Licht makes a special allowance for Hyde to sleep on the pillows next to him at night as long as he’s sick; Hyde expresses his appreciation in tiny squeaks and gentle nose boops.
The only way they can get Hyde to take medicine in his hedgehog form is by shoving a dropper halfway down his throat. Hyde is less than pleased about this situation but he always tries his best not to impale whoever’s feeding him.
Hyde spends most of his illness just curled up into a tiny hedgie ball; Guil, Kranz, and Licht all miss his usual hyperactive self, and can’t wait for him to get better.
Hedgehog sneezes are adorable, or so says Licht. Hyde just really wants his nose to stop running.
They buy Hyde a heating pad the he just sorta….sploots onto. He likes how warm it makes his belly and it’s very comfortable to nap on.
Hyde presses his head up against any one of their hands when he’s looking for some sympathy. All of them get very used to being nudged by a tiny, spiky ball and having a snuffly hedgehog sit on their lap while they pet him.
On a sort of unrelated note, hedgehogs have a tendency to give themselves eye injuries via their spikes and clumsiness. Look me in the eye and tell me Hyde hasn’t done this. Licht was torn between being highly concerned over a cute animals pain and loosing his shit over Hyde’s stupidity.
