4+1+3=8. 8 is the atomic number of Oxygen. Oxygen is why you breath. John is a Breath player. Throughout Act 5 Act 2 John had a flirtation thing with Vriska. Vriska. Do you see it? I’ll say it again: Vriska. Still didn’t catch it? Sound it out with me: Vri. Ska. That’s right. Ska. As in Skaia, the governing force behind the story’s universe. But that’s not really true now is it? We all know Andrew Hussie is the real governing force of the tale. What do we know about Andrew Hussie, that’s it, he is attracted to Vriska. And who is Vriska attracted to at one point? Tavros. The symbol Tavros wears on his shirt is that of the Taurus constellation. Taurus is only one letter away from Tauros as in the Pokemon. Tauros has three tails. Three. Three is how many sides a triangle has. A triangle with an eye in the center is the symbol used by the Illuminati. Eye. Doc Scratch has no eyes. Doc Scratch is an excellent host. Newgrounds hosted [S] Cascade, but the site crashed on its release. Know what else crashed? Three planes on the date September 11th, 2001. One flight did not crash but landed safely. The president on that date was George W. Bush. George W. Bush was the United State’s 43rd president. Did you catch that? He was the 43rd president and 1 flight did not crash into its intended target.
i found this and please just read hussies comments on vriska because im almost in tears i cant believe ive never seen this before…. shes my FAVE and i will eat up literally any commentary made abt her
When I was about to launch into the Hivebent arc, I thought one cool opportunity that presented was to introduce a very major character out of nowhere, who we had literally no foreknowledge of other than one shot of a strange looking horn cropped off panel. The entire profile of this character was always meant to be “someone who is in some way involved with practically everything", and the scorpio sign seemed suited to this. This aspect of her profile was conveyed up front in her introduction, and hammered repeatedly with almost every scene she’s been in. Hivebent was a good introduction to the ways in which she entangles herself nefariously with everything, and slowly but surely, this has been revealed to be the case in the main plotline. It was unclear before, and indeed unclear that this was even a question that needed to be answered, because she had not been introduced yet. And personally, I think there's something kind of exciting which that proposition injects into a story.
Before Hivebent, most of the trolls were portrayed as incompetent at trolling. And when the roster was expanded, the question was begged: are any of these trolls any good at trolling? So part of her profile was also to serve as the ultimate troll. Karkat was an effective troll insofar as he was loud and angry and obnoxious, but that’s about as far as it went. Vriska was designed to be a good troll in the purest sense of the word. She gets people legitimately riled up. Both in the story, and even more importantly, outside it. There is no other troll, or really even any other aspect of Homestuck, which generates more debate. This was intentional, and continues to be.
Imma blow your mind real quick if nobody’s already brought this up:
We know Hussie used photoshop for homestuck. In one of the recaps you can see scribble-mode Hussie tapping really fast on a keyboard and the photoshop animation timeline is shown below the frame.
In Photoshop (and other Adobe products), a Scratch Disk is the space where temporary resources (beta kids, universe) are held to work on a project that is currently open (alpha kids, universe). Once the project (universe) is saved and closed (endgame), the resources are scratched (removed) to free up space.
So one of the Gr8 Frivolous Mysteries of Homestuck, in my experience, has been “How are Dragons Connected to Mind?”, and I think I might have an answer. I’m actually kind of surprised I’ve never seen it suggested before as I’m hardly the first, or even the hundred and first, HS fan to read the Discworld books.
Anyway, I just finished reading Guards! Guards!(I don’t have much to do out here so I brought a load of books, and I figured I’d get the Vimes stories out of the way), and here is what Terry Pratchett, through the dramatis personae of Tubal de Malachite, had to say about Dragons:
Yette draggons are notte liken unicornes, I willen. They dwelleth in some Realm defined bye thee Fancie of the Wille and, thus, it myte bee thate whomsoever calleth upon them, and giveth them theyre patheway upon thys worlde, calleth theyre Owne dragon of the Mind…
and then there’s a bit about how they may yet be a force for good, given a Summoner of decency, though given that Noble Dragons in that book are an allegory for tyrants and unbound passions, one can draw their own conclusions on the possibility of this.
Like Vimes does :] His response to reading this:
A realm of fancy, Vimes thought. That’s where they went, then. Into our imaginations. And when we call them back we shape them, like squeezing dough into pastry shapes. Only you don’t get gingerbread men, you get what you are. Your own darkness given shape…
And of course, in the book, they lie sleeping in a pocket of L-Space, Library-Space, the distorted and fantastical reality brought into being by the mere existence and agglomeration of Books; quite Literally, a Space of Imagination :] :]
So this isn’t Homestuck itself saying this, obviously, it’s Discworld. But, Homestuck’s a pretty referential work and Jack Noir and his band of miscreant civil servants(one fat, one small, one supernaturally competent) bear certain similarities to the original crew of the Night’s Watch as we meet them(and, being the Guardians of Derse, are themselves a sort of Night’s Watch, in a sense). But but, I don’t know if Hussie ever read the Discworld books and I’ve never seen any obvious evidence from his work that he did so I don’t think you can say, definitively, that he took this idea of Dragons and the Mind from Pratchett and ran with it as an incredibly subtle, plot-insignificant nod to a series of fantasy-satire-but-no-seriously-sincere-fantasy books.
But but but I do think that’s an interesting idea to run with, and one that might occur to anybody, naturally, thinking about Dragons. To make an exceedingly broad and over-confident claim,
Dragons are the Quintessential Unknown-Populating Monster of the “Western Canon” and have been for centuries. Whenever Europe’s looked at someplace it didn’t know and wracked its imagination to fill it with something, giant fire-breathing(or toxin-spewing, or petrifying, or death-gazing) serpents(or birds) have been near the top of the list. In a very real sense it can be said that the natural habitat of Dragons, is the Mind.
Reblog if you are a Homestuck or were ever at one point a Homestuck. I want you guys to hold each others hands. And never let go...
Wow, so this is it. Homestuck has finally ended. It has been a good seven years. It really has! This fandom might have pissed me off at times, we’ve had our ups and downs but, I really do love you guys. We are like a large, dysfunctional but loving family.
Even though the thing that brought us together has come to a close, I still want to laugh and create with you all. There probably won’t be anymore regular updates, no more regular update art, things like that, but I don’t want this fandom to die. Even if you aren’t really into Homestuck anymore, please try to remember it fondly. Once a fan, always a fan I like to say! I don’t want the cosplay, art, music, and the creativity with this fandom to stop. The roleplays, ships, even the arguing!
You guys are the best fandom I have ever been a part of. Because of Homestuck, I’ve met so many amazing people, made so many creative arts, and made so many amazing relationships. I’ve made amazing memories! This fandom made me feel like I belonged here, even if I did get into silly arguments from time to time or shed a couple tears. To be honest, looking back I think that enhanced my great experience with you all! This fandom is amazing, you’re all amazing. You don’t have to reblog this, but I’d really appreciated if you did.
I’d appreciate if you reblogged for yourself and your fellow homestucks, young and old. I want this post to be important, to mean something. Homestuck has done so many wonderful things for people. It’s even saved lives! Andrew Hussie is an amazing writer and though some of us didn’t want Homestuck to end, all things must come to a close. Please, reblog. Help pull our family in with a great big hug. Lets see how many notes this can get. Let’s see how proud, how loud, loving, and how LOYAL OUR FAMILY IS! I want this to be the post, THE POST, that pulls us all together, to support each other, to show Hussie how much he’s done for us, and to show our appreciation. To honor the fandom that has been following the comic for YEARS. Whether you joined April 13, 2009 or yesterday. You deserve a round of applause! We deserve a STANDING OVATION! HUSSIE DESERVES TO KNOW HOW MUCH WE LOVE AND APPRECIATE HIM. HOW MUCH WE APPRECIATE EACH OTHER! This is it, THIS IS IT. Let’s go out with a SHOUT!Make it count, guys. I’m proud of you. I love you!<3
what she means:
homestuck is ending tomorrow. Tomorrow. everything andrew hussie has worked towards for seven years is coming to a conclusion on 4/13. after tomorrow we're never getting another upd8, never going to see the characters we watched grow up again. there's never going to be another story like this one again. the fandom is slowly going to grow smaller and move on and stop caring about the incredible world that hussie built. and I know we all like to joke about finally being free from this hellpit, but frankly I'm not ready to say goodbye. I don't want to say goodbye to the characters I've loved for so long, to the comic that's shaped me into who I am today. I'm not even close to prepared for this but I don't have a choice. Because homestuck is ending tomorrow aND NOTHING IS O K A Y
Hussie, John/Rose, and the Romantic Entanglements of Fictional Children
So it has come to my attention that this picture
has been cropping up in some of the more, shall we say, less savory circles of Homestuck fans. You know the ones. They’ve been spreading this image around recently as a sort of trump card to everyone who ships Johnrose, almost bragging about how Hussie himself called out this ship as being ridiculous. And yes, it would appear so: this quote is in fact real, and it is quite obviously a mockery.
So for now, lets set aside the fact that Hussie is an unreliable source who trolls his fans for shits and giggles. Lets set aside that he has actually hinted at Johnrose in canon before this comment was made, and knows damn well why people ship it beyond a simple ‘they’re in the same comic together.’ Lets set aside the fact that Hussie isn’t a moron and wouldn’t be so naive as to make such brazen hints without knowing exactly he was doing with those Johnrose pesterlogs. Lets just take him at his word. Ask yourself this one simple question:
WHY IN THE SWEET BALLBLAZING FUCK WOULD YOU EVER THINK HUSSIE KNOWS WHAT THE FUCK HE’S TALKING ABOUT?
Hussie cannot write romance. This, from both an objectively academic perspective and my own personal one, is self-evident. His attempts at actual romance were haphazardly shitfucked clusterwhores selling themselves nickle and dime a pop on some dirty streetcorner.
They were clunky and poorly developed; rushed, lazy. They vacillated too often between being a boring affront blocking our way to the actual story and sitting on the backburner for so long that they were forgotten about entirely. They either never took risks or subverted the romance trope so far that it became an unrecognizable parody for both the concept and characters tragically forced to endure such blatant bullfuckery.
LET ME REITERATE: HUSSIE CANNOT WRITE ROMANCE. AT ALL.
So why the hell would anyone possibly give even the slightest shit about what he wanted for the romance of his characters when he himself couldn’t write that romance worth a damn? There is a reason why 7/10 of the top ships on Homestuck’s AO3 page aren’t canon. There is a reason why other ships before them have DOMINATED the Homestuck cultural sphere in it’s entirety. People wanted to put together characters that made for INTERESTING STORIES, not because they had MATCHING GENITALIA.
Davekat is widely reviled by the fandom at this point: even its own shippers largely hate how it was handled in canon, and think they deserved better (which, for the record, THEY FUCKING DID.) Rosemary is only a staple of most because they were the first canonical gay couple, and, of course, therefore falls under the category of a ‘Tumblr Logic’ ship. Jake and Dirk have only stayed popular because of the wonderful fan content that did them justice in fleshing out their relationship (looking at you @dirkar), and not Hussie’s halfassed and, frankly, offensive portrayal thereof.
Hussie didn’t write an interesting romantic story with the characters he wanted together: that much has been made more than clear to more than enough people.
