hunting community

anonymous asked:

Do you know why the worgen nationally have a thing a for leather straps? Are they the original leather daddies?

You’ve put that image in my head thanks. I hate it.

On a slightly more serious note, could be due to their victorian sort-of-steampunk aesthetic coupled with their active hunting community, lots of game of deer, foxes, and other wild animals where they live! That leather has to go somewhere!

PSA For the RT Community

When baby Jones is born, DO NOT comment about how much you dislike the name that has been picked. Or how *insert name* would have been better. Or I totally knew they were going to pick it because (Michael/Lindsay/anyone else) once mentioned it here in *insert video*

Congratulate the couple and comment on how cute the baby is. How the name is adorable. Literally anything positive.

But don’t you dare belittle Austin’s best couple for their name choice.

Spirit workers, listen up! Sometimes it can be hard to pinpoint a human spirit’s time period. Dates and years can become foreign concepts to them. A good way to find out this information is by simply asking “who is the president?” If you’re not American, asking about any country leader will work.

I’ve done this via Ouija board and spirit box. Works every time! Remember to be safe when doing spirit work 💜

The Wild Hunt(s)

I would love to get a discussion going on what people think of The Wild Hunt, there are many versions and types of this hunt that have surfaced through myth and history. Some view it as just one specific group, some see it as many groups that are all under the umbrella of what makes a “Wild Hunt”.

Some people see other gods leading the hunt, ( The Devil, Odin, Gwyn Ap Nudd, Fionn Mac Cumhaill,  ect ) And with them different components of what makes the hunt. Some see men clad on horses, some a congregation of all of the above.

** I personally think that there are many versions of The Wild Hunt, but at it’s core is a singular idea, a single almost deity. One who is wild and reckless and primal. I feel that the wild hunt that Old Horn accompanies is mostly animal and nature like spirits. Instead of hunters with weapons its wolves, bears, crows, and spirits with teeth and claws, but also the prey, in a wild menagerie of raw nature. While I feel Nicnevin’s wild hunt is made up of the sidhe, fairies, spirits, devils, witches, and their respective fetches and familliars. **

So what are your opinions and views on The Wild Hunt? Is there a specific hunt that you think of? what makes it up? is there a leader? I’m interested in what everyone has to say.

An Arranged Marriage

Dean Winchester x Reader

2000 Words

Story Summary: An AU of sorts. Where hunter’s have communities, and arrange marriages for their young. Y/N is from the Northwest region, arranged to marry Dean, from the midwest region.

A/N: This is a request from @criesateverything. Requested an arranged marriage with Dean.

Growing up in a hunter’s family was nowhere close to being a normal life. Sure, you lived in a community, but it was filled with hunter’s and their families. While you were learning your ABC’s and 123’s, you were also learning about the different types of monster’s and how to kill them. School was not a place to socialize. There was no such thing as friends, and you never even dreamed of having a boyfriend. It was a strict life, one filled with rules and death followed you everywhere.

It was a different life. Many would call it child abuse, and in some instances, you could see where that would be true. Yours might not have been perfect, but your parents cared for you. Being a hunter, there was a certain community, a certain way of life that didn’t make it easy to bring in strangers to the life. That’s why, starting in the early 1900’s, hunters started arranging marriages. With at least five different hunting communities country wide, it was the safest and wisest way to make sure that the hunter’s legacy continued.

For those who celebrate Easter/Ostara, here’s a fun egg-hunt game you can play with your family and friends for this year:

Everybody minus one in the group gets to search for eggs. The singled-out person owns the land that the eggs are found on. Make the hunt into a long process, maybe an hour or two. The landlord gets to sit off to the side in a fold-up chair with a cold lemonade and other leisure materials. At the end of it, each of the hunters has to relinquish three-quarters of their eggs to the landlord.

Maybe have kids play it for an early bit of class consciousness.

Make a Date of It

Dean knew he’d never be with Cas.

It was just too complicated.  Yeah, the younger hunting community did seem significantly more progressive than John’s old buddies, throwing around f slurs and laughing over beers, but Dean was in his thirties.  His late thirties.

No one came out at this age, and if he did, he was sure they would think he was faking, having some bizarre mid-life sexual crisis or trying to get attention.  Moreover, he was a legend among hunters:  he didn’t want his going both ways to become the talk of the town, their variation of celebrity gossip, even if it wasn’t in a completely negative context.

So he could never be with Cas.  It just wasn’t practical.

Still, he couldn’t help but feel that familiar sense of longing as he watched Cas stitch up his trench coat, delicate fans of dark eyelashes over soft, tired bags and prominent cheekbones, stubble sprinkling his jaw.

Man, it would be great if Cas was human.  If Dean was just a normal guy who’d met him in a park or a grocery store, who could have worked out his sexuality in his teens or twenties like any normal fence-sitter, instead of worrying about his brother’s life or the damn apocalypse.

Or even if it wasn’t, even if things were just as they were now, Dean couldn’t help but think how amazing it would be to hold him in his arms late at night while he slept, press his nose to that dark mess of hair and breath in the soapy smell of shampoo.  Maybe start to see a grey hair or two.

That was another pleasant thought:  Cas going grey, Cas the silver fox.  He’d always had a thing for mature guys, though he’d absolutely never admit it, and he was surprised to find the idea of getting old together with Cas a pleasant one.

But then, he’d blown his chance to have human Cas, hadn’t he?  Cas had been human once, been ready to settle down in the bunker for good, and Dean had kicked him to the curb.  He’d spent every day regretting it.

“Dean, are you okay?”

Dean blinked, remembering Sam was there.  He was sitting perpendicular to Dean at the long wooden table, open laptop and book of lore in front of him, looking at Dean with concerned, puppyish eyes.

Even Cas paused in his mending the wounded sleeve, looking up to see what this latest drama could be.

Dean cleared his throat.  “’Course I’m okay.  Why wouldn’t I be?”

“I dunno,” Sam shrugged.  “You’ve just been sort of spacing out for a really long time.  You looked kind of upset.”

“Bullshit,” Dean scoffed, a tad defensively.  “M’not upset.”

“I noticed, too,” Cas pointed out.  “But it’s been a rudimentary aspect of his personality since I’ve known him, so I generally elect to ignore it.”  There was a brief pause as Dean mustered a glower.  “If you’d like, I could read his mind…?”

No!”  Dean cried, horrified by the suggestion.

Sam ran a palm over his face, clearly trying not to laugh.  Sadistic bastard.  “It’s fine, Cas.  I’m sure Dean is just…distracted.”

Cas nodded hesitantly.  “Very well.  Let me know if this changes, Dean:  I should very much like to help.”

“Yeah, don’t count on it,” Dean muttered, pretending to go back to his laptop.

God, Cas was a sweetheart.  Oblivious, but a sweetheart.  Dean could see now that all he’d ever wanted to do was help.  To help Dean.

So many missed opportunities, over the years they’d known each other.  So many times he’d noticed that mouth, full and chapped and supple, when he could have closed the gap between them and let the warmth consume him.  So many times he could have said something, anything, to convey to Cas how he felt.

Dean froze suddenly as a realization dawned on him then:  if he could look back on moments five years ago that he could have told Cas how he felt but didn’t, five years from now, would he feel the same way?  Would he still be hooking up with the same sexually frustrated housewives that liked to boss him around the way he craved, or odd bull named Larry, only to come home feeling empty and full of regret?  Would he still be watching Cas from afar and wishing he’d said something, anything, to convey that he loved him as more than a friend?  To convey that he loved him at all?

It’s too late, said that nagging little voice in his head.  Too complicated.  He isn’t even your species!

Dean realized he didn’t care.  He’d spent his whole life watching people wait for some idyllic scenario to come along to show their loved ones how they felt:  John promising he’d give his boys the life they deserved after he got his precious revenge, Mary studiously avoiding them until she could mold their lives into what she’d envisioned for them over thirty years prior.

Dean wasn’t going to repeat their mistakes.  He couldn’t.

Think of the hunters!  the voice persisted.  Do you really want them knowing you like guys?

Dean scoffed inwardly.  At the end of the day, who fucking cares?  He’d met gay hunters before.  One of them was a goddamn witch.  The hunting community had changed a lot since he’d last been involved.

And yeah, he was sure there was still some homophobia lurking, but was he really gonna let that stop him?  Besides:  there might be some young hunter kid scared to come out of the closet, who might be inspired to if he knew Dean Winchester was bi.

Dean could have really used someone like that when he was younger.

“Cas, do you wanna go get burgers?”

Dean blurted the phrase out without thinking, causing both Sam and Cas looking up in surprise.

Dean swallowed, suddenly feeling very awkward as silence hung thick in the air.

“I mean…just if you want to, that is,” he added, rubbing the back of his neck self-consciously as he felt his ears grow hot.

Cas blinked.  “Certainly.  You know I love burgers, Dean.”

Dean stared at him, then chuckled awkwardly, not really processing that he’d just said yes.  “Yeah, that’s, uh.  Kinda why I asked.”

There was a long silence before Cas offered, “Shall we go now, or…?”

Dean blinked, still in a haze as he registered the question.  “No no.  I mean, uh.  We can if you want to, but I was kinda thinking we could go tomorrow night.”  He swallowed, palm rubbing over his trachea.  “Y’know.  Make a date of it.”

Dean chuckled awkwardly again as Cas’s eyes widened, expression unreadable.  He was peripherally aware of Sam’s comically baffled facial expression, eyes wide and mouth hanging open.  He looked as though if you poked him with your finger, he would fall over.

Finally, Cas said quietly.  “I would love that, Dean.”

“…Great.”  Dean cleared his throat, nodding slowly.  A nervous smile spread over his face.  “Great!  Uh, tomorrow at eight, then?”

“That would be wonderful, Dean.”

Dean had to resist the urge to giggle like a schoolgirl.  Everything about this was incredible.  The fact that he’d just asked Cas out on a date.  The fact that he’d said ‘yes.’  The way Cas said his name.

Dean.  Dean.  Dean.

Dean thought he could listen to that voice say his name forever and never get tired of it.

He and Cas sat there in mutually baffled silence for a moment or two longer, before Sam’s exhausted, relieved sigh broke the spell.

“Fucking finally.

Part 1

“What the hell, Dean?!” Sam shouted. He had given his older brother the silent treatment from the moment they left the motel weeks ago. But seeing Dean, relaxing on the couch, with a beer in hand, not even fazed that he had kicked out one of their closest friend irked Sam to no end. “What did you say to her?!”

The oldest Winchester rolled his eyes, crossing his arms in defiantly. “I didn’t say anything that wasn’t true.”

“Why’d she leave?”

“Beats me.” Dean shrugged, taking another gulp of his drink.

“She said she understands why you kicked her out,” Sam said in a more quieter tone, changing his tactics.

“Good. At least she knows she was a selfish-”

“Dean!” Sam exclaimed, shocked that his brother would say such things about someone who they were close friends with.

“How can you not be angry?” Dean asked. “Because of her, you were hurt, Sam! It’s my job to protect you, and she was in the way of that.”

“You’re an idiot, you know that?”

Dean scoffed.

“She didn’t tell the demons anything. You think the demons haven’t picked up a few things from us?”

“What the hell are you talking about?” Dean asked, his eyes narrowing in curiosity.

“They only kidnapped Y/N for her phone. They used the same tactic as we do when we’re tracking someone- all you need is a phone number.”

“Son of a bitch.”

“Yea. You fucked up, Dean. Whatever you said to her, you fucked up.”

“Sammy-”

“No. Fix this, Dean. I was my sister back.” Sam shook his head, walking away to his room.

“Sist- What?”

The hazel-eyed man stopped, turning his slightly around to look at his brother’s confused face. “She’s always been family to us- to me at least. And you kicking her out like that doesn’t change that.”

“Dammit,” Dean cursed under his breath, watching his younger brother walk away. “Fuck.” He closed his eyes tightly, trying to think of ways to fix his mess.

Story Summary: An AU of sorts. Where hunter’s have communities, and arrange marriages for their young. Y/N is from the Northwest region, arranged to marry Dean, from the midwest region.

Catch Up Here: Chapter 1

Dean’s POV

Sitting there, in the dark interior of the Impala, I couldn’t keep my eyes off the women curled into the corner of the back seat. She was still wearing her plain wedding dress, her fingers nervously picking at the hem as she stared out the window.

“Y/N, I know this marriage wasn’t of your choosing either. I just want you to know that I’m not going to expect a real marriage. I won’t force you into anything you don’t want. You can have your own room, and if, after a couple of days you still feel the need, you can leave. I won’t come after you, I won’t force you to stay. I want you to be happy, and if that includes staying with us, then you are more than welcome to.” I found myself saying, watching as her wide gaze landed on mine through the rear-view mirror. She hadn’t said much the entire day, and I didn’t blame her either.

Anatomy Of A Mermaid

“Mermaid Anatomy - A scientific outlook

Contrary to popular belief, mermaids are not human or fish at all. They are mammals with the appearance of a human being above the pelvis and the appearance of dolphins or whales below. All mammals are warm-blooded and have hair, and all female mammals have mammary glands (breast and nipples for feeding young). Fish have a completely different anatomy. Mermaids do appear to have scales, but it is possible that this is in fact a pattern or camouflage that resemble scales. Some species of mermaid also have twin-tails and there are even some that are completely humanoid in appearance, apart from scale-like skin and dolphin-like biology (sonar, respiratory, circulatory and skeletal systems). The mermaid is also known to have both a caucasian or negro complexion and some sighted have a greenish appearance.

Biological functions

Mermaids have organs in their chest that can operate as a lung or a gill, depending on whether they are in or out of the water. The organ expands and contracts exactly like a lung, yet has the ability to extract oxygen from the water. This allows the mermaid to ‘breathe’ water in the same way that they breathe air - by filling and evacuating the chest cavity. This organ is also needed to operate the larynx. The human larynx cannot operate under the water as it cannot be made to vibrate from water pressure, yet the mermaids larynx operates equally well using water or air. The mermaid circulatory system is also designed to withstand differing water pressures like that of the dolphin and whale, while the skeleton is light and pliable like those of a bird or dolphin. The lenses of mermaid eyes are also different and are able to correctly focus for use both above and under water. A mermaid is also able to hear on a different level to humans and has the ability to use sonar for communication and hunting purposes underwater.

Reproduction

In mermaids, reproduction is much like that of dolphins. The reproductive organs of both the male and female are akin to the dolphin and whale, and mermaid babies are born live (as opposed to hatched from eggs).Females have human internal reproduction organs; however the vagina is slightly shorter, and the common urogenital opening (the urethra merges with the vaginal canal near the opening) is at the front. The opening can stretch as much as a human vaginal opening; mermaid babies are born live. A clitoris (which is the same color as the tail) is slightly below the urogenital opening, and an anus is above the urogenital opening. Mermaid vaginas are slightly smaller than human ones (since merman penises are smaller, explained below), so they tend to be more sexually satisfying to human males.Males do have a penis, but it is almost as small as a human female clitoris and is the same color as the tail; it is hardly visible (this is the only plausible explanation to why no one has ever seen a penis on any of merman). It is used for urination, as well as sexual intercourse. The testicles are inside the tail, as opposed to the pelvis, since they require a slightly lower temperature to function properly (the human and pelvis part is warm-blooded, but the tail is cold-blooded). The anus is above the penis.

Diet

The mermaid mostly eats fish, but has been known to subsist on other meats, fruits and vegetables. There are some species of mermaid that are vegetarians only.

Habitat

The mermaid is able to exist equally on land and in the sea, although it can become dehydrated if on land for extended periods of time. Most mermaids live in schools or pods, but some are known to travel as hermits. They can live in caverns below the sea and in undersea cities. The merpeople cities is more common on other planets, but in the future there will be build bigger merpeople cities on Earth. Some of the merpeople are more advanced technological and spiritual than Earth human and is several thousend years ahead. They have free energy, teleportation, interstellar space travelling etc. Some of the merpeople live on big space stations and on starships.”

An Arranged Marriage Chapter 5

Dean Winchester x Reader

1400 Words

Story Summary: An AU of sorts. Where hunter’s have communities, and arrange marriages for their young. Y/N is from the Northwest region, arranged to marry Dean, from the midwest region.

Catch Up Here: Masterpost

After your run in with those men, Dean made sure you stayed by his side the rest of the shopping trip. As he traversed the rest of the store, you glanced around, surprised with the different families you saw. Kids were running around happily, annoying their parents but acting as if they didn’t have a care in the world. And they probably didn’t. So unlike the compound, you thought to yourself. Even from an early age, you knew your roles, you knew the expectations.

You were starting to realize how strict and dull life was in the hunting communities, even when faced with the risk of monsters. And even though you had been away for only a day, you were grateful to Dean for taking you away from that kind of life. No matter what happened between the two of you, he had opened your eyes to this new and exciting life.

Do birds of prey show much body language? Are pack-hunting hawks more communicative than others?

Birds of prey definitely use body language! It’s just not always as obvious or easy to read as it is on other animals, like dogs and cats. The only pack hunting hawk I can think of would be the harris hawk, which is typically thought of as more intelligent and communicative than other hawks. I don’t know if this is necessarily true, since I’ve never flown one personally, but being social definitely makes them easier to work with. It’s one of the reasons they have become so popular as falconry birds.

I learned how to read basic bird body language from the red-tailed hawks and kestrels that I flew in the past, but nothing has taught me how to “read” a bird like working with my imprint goshawk. Imprints react to people the same way their species in the wild would react to other birds. This means you get to see a lot more of their natural behaviors and body language play out. It’s part of the reason why raising an imprint is so cool! Some signs are very obvious and easy to read, while others are so subtle that only a well-trained eye will pick up on them. I’ll try to list some of the more common ones for you.

Aggression: hackles (feathers on back of neck) raised, head dipped, wings held out, one shoulder dipped

Possessiveness: mantling (wings out, tail fanned), turning back to you, side glances

Nervousness: feathers held tight, neck elongated, eyes wide, standing higher on legs, wings slightly out (ready to fly away), shifting weight, rapid glances

Fear: mouth open, wings held out, feathers raised

Comfort: feathers loose or poofy, one foot tucked up, rousing (shaking feathers), tail wiggling

Sitting in the back seat of the Impala, this ride was so much different than your last. Sam was awake, smiling as he stared out the window. Dean had his radio up loud, drumming his fingers on the steering wheel.

Hearing one of your favorite songs come on the radio, you began singing along, surprising both Sam and Dean. Catching a pair of eyes as green as the grass outside staring at you in the rear view mirror. His head was cocked to the side, his Sandy hair still standing on end. It was easy to see his mixed emotions, even though he was still a stranger to you.
