human wrong

the poets were wrong.

you don’t burn and there are no tornadoes in your chest,
your hands don’t hold galaxies or stars
and your anger isn’t a volcanic god
ready to smite every enemy.
the moon doesn’t love you and neither do the stars,
but the earth does, in its own way, i guess.

see, you are human, my dear,
born to destroy and to take and to make,
born to learn and to watch. you observe the stars;
they do not observe you.

you run from tornadoes or you chase them,
you do not become them. your anger is just anger
an emotion to control or be controlled by;
volcanoes can stay dormant for years
but you are never still.

and why would the moon love you?
why would the stars?
they are too far away to be swayed by a pretty face,
but the earth lives under your feet, it feels you dance
to the beat it drums out in thunder and rain.

you are human, fragile
and while your skin is weak your heart beats strong.
it might not hold hurricanes but it does hold love,
and this can be just as deadly.
your anger won’t ever level cities
but it can topple friendships
and they amount to the same thing.

the poets were wrong.
you are not out of this world,
you are of it and beloved to it,
and you are still special.

Meditate your ass off

What is meditation basically? Lots of people will tell you that meditation is supposed to calm your mind.

But what will really meditation do to you is that you’ll be able to CONTROL your mind. Or at least you’ll be better at it, which is something huge, believe me. And controlled mind is a big tool in magic work.

There are 3 basic types of meditation.

1. Just observe your mind. This is something that you can do when you have time. Sit on your couch, lie on your bed - whatever feels good for you - that’s the key. Close your eyes and just try to observe what’s your mind up to. The important thing is - don’t try to think. Just let your mind exist. It almost feels like falling asleep, actually. Once you try it you can feel how freeing that moment is.

2. Be aware. Yes, awareness of your body and later, of what is happening around you. For example, try to be aware of your breathing. Focus on how you breathe. Just feel how your nostrils feel the air coming in and out. Tap on your forehead with your finger and feel the spot. Be aware of the sensation. Focus on it like nothing else exist. Just the sensation you feel on your skin.

3. Focus on one thing and one thing only with your mind. As I always say, start with something easy like an orange. Orange is easy to imagine in your mind. Picture its structure. Picture its taste on your tongue. Picture how it feels when you touch it. Basically, put together a picture of everything you know about the orange and keep mind picturing it. Feel the orange for as long as possible. If you lose your concentration, it’s alright and you did nothing wrong - we’re humans, not robots. Just try again :)

Questions you may ask:

Q: What if I don’t have time for meditation? I’m busy with school and work!

A: Well, of course we live in a world that needs our presence. And number 2 and 3 can be done while you wait for the bus, while you’re stuck in traffic jam, and so on. Don’t lose hope, just because you’re busy :)

Q: Is it really necessary to meditate?

A: Nothing is necessary, it’s your choice. But the truth is, if you choose to meditate, you’ll be able to control your mind better and it’s not only helpful in magic work. It can help you if you have trouble sleeping and so on. Helps with anxiety, too, btw.

Q: How does meditation help control mind?

A: Number 1 can teach you:

- how to be aware of what’s going on in your mind on the level you can’t reach yet. Later, you can use this new entry to your mind and analyze your psyche better.

- how to not fall asleep when you try astral traveling before going to bed.

- lucid dreaming :)

  Number 2 can teach you:

- how to be aware of what your body wants and needs even though it can’t speak.

- how to be aware of what is happening around you in a crowd - kind of good skill to have these days, sadly.

- how to feel if something paranormal is happening around you.

  Number 3 can teach you:

- how to use your willpower as a tool for your magic work.

- power of good imagination raises IQ and plain common sense.

Remember that if something isn’t going well for the first time you try, it doesn’t mean it’ll be like this forever. Things can better with practice. So don’t worry. We were all lame shits when we started.

Enjoy :)

Humans are Weirdos (ft.  animals)

I know a popular ‘humans are weird to aliens’ topic is how easily humans can bond to animals. But then think the opposite.

We humans are so weird because we are practically bonding magnets to animals.

We have our social hierarchies, so it makes sense that we can fit in with certain groups like dogs and even gorillas if we can understand them enough. We get ourselves acquainted with dogs who have been domesticated and these dogs will leap into our laps and constantly bother us for pets and treats and licking us as a way to show affection. People who can get certain animals to open up to us are super cool. Aliens are in awe of how our understanding of them can get us into a pack so readily that humans who are super close to normally protective dog mothers are allowed to hold their precious babies.

We can even manage to bond with animals like cats, known to be mostly solitary. We care for these cats and when they’re comfortable they will break their isolation and seek us out for affection.

Imagine an alien seeing a dog or cat go to an upset human and try to nuzzle them or snuggle into their lap to let themselves be held for our emotional comfort. These animals which, though currently domesticated, were descended from predators streamlined towards a goal of becoming efficient hunters. Willingly coming to our emotional aid and comforting us because they’ve bonded with us so closely.

Aliens see dogs act as protectors and bark away intruders on the human territory, but instantly turn happy when they know it’s their owner and friend. They see cats utilizing inborn maternal instincts to hunt down and leave 'gifts’ of dead things in an effort to feed and teach their humans to take care of them since we’re such worthless hunters in their eyes. They’ll even know if something is wrong with humans medically before we do, or know about disturbances in the home like fires or gas leaks, and will uncharacteristically jump us to get us out of danger.

And when humans are in danger by others, and an animal senses it before we do, these animals will immediately jump on the defensive and snarl and warn against any potential enemies  and try to alert us.

You’ve got dogs who will literally jump on intruders and bite them when they’re trying to attack their human owners. Throwing themselves and and intimidating animals many times larger than themselves for our sake. Even cats, the ones people might think aren’t very interested in their humans, will throw themselves into the fray and claw the hell out of something that’s a danger to a precious human of theirs.

And, for an added bonus, imagine if we can get this to apply to bigger, deadlier animals with similar capacity for pack bonding.

After months and months of talking, mimicking, feeding, and caring for a giant predator the rest of the crew refuses to near, it’s sort of relaxed to the human. A sense of loyalty that 'yes, this creature cares for me’. Then, one day, pirates invade the vessel and somehow the animal gets loose. Cue the crew panicking when it comes ambling out of its’ holding bay at the time when a pirate is about to bring a knife or something down on the human. Two seconds later this pirate is running and screaming for its life when it sees it. The creature takes a running start, LEAPS over the human (which was closest to it and already injured) and takes off after it. When that pirate is either captured or dead, the creature returns to the human, nuzzling them and making sounds to see if they’re okay.

The human is smiling and mimicking the sounds back, or just talking to it to say what a 'good boy’ it is.

The aliens of the crew are in shock.  The rest of the humans just smile knowingly.

Loopholes in Cosmic Law

DM: Just before [Inquisitor] kills him, the demonic giant turns to [Aasimar Summoner] and quickly shouts, “IsurrenderinaccordancetotheancientlawsoftheConclave!” and then the sword goes through his back and he dies instantly.

Human Rogue: Oh fuck you, you legal exploitative bitch!

Human Inquisitor: What? What’s wrong, what happened?

Rogue: No, I know what he tried to do! He knew he couldn’t beat us, so with his last breath, he tried to game the cosmic legal system, or whatever, to screw us over, because he’s a dick!

Inquisitor: Oh my god, it’s like that Family Guy bit where Osama bin Laden shouts “IacceptJesusasmylordandsavior!” before he got shot!

DM: The corpse of the giant suddenly is lifted up, as if by puppet strings, and starts speaking in a new voice: “Bringing harm to the innocent, slaying our children without mercy… Hahaha… How does it feel to become what you fight?”

Summoner: “You seriously expect me to feel guilt over this? A giant who blindly followed orders from demons, mercilessly slaughtered the people of this village, attempted to kill me and my companions, and then knowingly surrendered moments before his death purely out of spite? He surrendered to me, but that action did not extend to my allies. The laws do not account for practical impossibilities.”

DM: “Well that will be for the Conclave to decide, will it not?”

Medium: “Oh go fuck yourself!” and I cut off the head.

Summoner: “If he truly did intend to surrender, I would have accepted it. Now, in the words of my companion, ‘go fuck yourself’.”

(Later, the Summoner woke up with a shiny golden letter on her chest. It was from the conclave, basically saying, “It’s fine, we’re not coming after you for what happened, your defense is solid, and that case was bullshit.”)

Rogue: “Man, I wish the human legal system was that smart.”
