human genius

Nicole's Predictions for Halloween V
  • Okay, okay, okay, so Jake decides to team with Amy this year
  • He wants to be the perfect human/genius team, showing how great they are together, and then he’ll propose to Amy once they win!
  • So since it’s his own secret part of their heist plan, he can’t tell anyone, not even Charles
  • Though he hints a LOT that he wants to win
  • Charles, however, wants to prove himself after last year–when Holt used him–and he’s not going to let anyone dissuade him, not even Jake
  • Charles has been planning for ages, so despite all the planning Jake has put into this, he manages the victory
  • Jake is kind of hurt, but then he realizes, he’s had a ton of fun with the love of his life all night, so who cares??
  • So after congratulating Charles, and crowning him, Jake says there’s another winner tonight (well, hopefully 2)
  • So he asks Charles to borrow the trophy he had made (which has a secret compartment where Jake’s hidden the ring), and he gets on his knee, and he proposes to Amy
  • And Charles might feel overshadowed except THIS IS THE BEST DAY EVER!!!
  • And Amy of course says yes and I cry, the end
I am convinced all of humanity is born with more gifts than we know. Most are born geniuses and just get de-geniused rapidly.

Being a Noel Fielding Fan Can Be Difficult.

Now the tabloids are Russell Branding Noel hard enough to rattle Lliana, I’m wondering if Noel’s world tour interviews about his past drug use came about because he knew he was going to try leveling up & that it’d all come out anyway?

Given that it has, I hope he has a decent PR person. It’s not been going on too long, but if it continues, he might do well to wrest control of his narrative (as Russell has) & speak up. Not that it’ll defang the tabloids. (They’re still mean to Russell, though now, if they slam Russell over his addiction, they look a bit stupid.) But he can remind others who he is.

When Noel talks, it’s clear he’s mostly a sweet, soft-spoken person. Though that may just become obvious when GBBO airs, if he plays well with others & stays away from the really sexy stuff.

It’s frustrating being a fan now. I love ❤️ most of his work. And I think he’s never out to hurt anyone (except, perhaps, his critics). But he’s human and does things that, whatever his intention, are hurtful. He’s a doll, but he isn’t always shitting 🌈.

Doesn’t mean you can’t ❤️ him. Loving humans means sometimes going 🙄 but still… hoping their best rises.

I really wish he’d take a cue from Russell, who knows that you can admit to making some mistakes and being ignorant of some things and you can invite people into your space and learn from them.

i think its weird when people interpret gabriel as some kind of loose canon, as if he isnt canonly one of the greatest tactical minds in the overwatch universe; its important to note that in light of the omnic crisis, humanity’s greatest struggle against them was that omnics continuously evolved and strategized to counter humans without any moral perimeters. so, the fact that the overwatch strike team that gabriel led is what pulled humanity out of the crisis says a lot– it says that under gabriels leadership, they managed to outsmart and outfight and subdue the omnics. under gabriels leadership, they took the world back for humans. its hard to comprehend the enormity of what a small, apparently seven man unit did, but they really did literally save the world. so like… interpreting gabriel as chaotic good is fine and all, and dont get me wrong, the dude does what he wants, when he wants, how he wants, but the fact of the matter is that it obviously works. gabriel reyes wasn’t just shooting off into the dark. he wasn’t just getting lucky. gabe is a goddamn genius and you gotta wonder what the hell he’s up to, because i can assure you, he’s doing it with purpose.

That disconnect on loving/being loved is one of the major conflicts between Cas and Dean (as I see it). Now, this might not be popular but I think Dean did a lot of mistakes in their earlier relationship that has contributed to Cas not getting it now (along with Cas' angelic perspective, of course). Dean is trying like hell to undo some of the damage, kudos to him, but that's why Dean gets in a fit when Cas doesn't answer, risks his life, takes stupid risks and Cas being all "this not ok now?"

Heck okay… Over dinner, Mr. Mittens was talking to me about Scorpion (which he watches and I don’t, really, other than sort of letting him keep me informed about the character dynamics, because I watched the first season with him and it’s nice to know that the various characters are getting along and doing well…)

I do have a point bringing up this completely different TV show, I swear…

The show itself is about this group of geniuses who are all sort of ~socially outcast~ because of their various talents, to the point that most of them had been wanted by various governments for various criminal activity… but they’re all assembled together to solve these sorts of global threat type situations.

The main character is this guy called Walter who’s a supergenius who was arrested for hacking NASA when he was a little kid. So he’s always been on the U.S. Government radar as a potential threat. But he’s not American by birth. This will be important later…

Anyway, in the pilot episode they meet this woman named Paige who was working as a waitress at a diner. She’s just a normal working mom, but she falls in with this group of geniuses because she’s got her own sort of genius: translating humanity for these people who despite being brilliant are sort of “rusty” in the “people skills” department…

So Walter and Paige sort of have this interesting dynamic, and are both attracted to each other, but he’s got like ZERO in the way of people skills or understanding his own feelings, and she thinks she’s got nothing to offer him because she’s just this regular person.

Her son, however, is also brilliant, and Walter helps her to understand her son while she helps him to begin to understand people in general.

At one point Paige discovered that Walter was secretly married to one of the other members of the team, but it was only so he could gain U.S. Citizenship, and she felt betrayed that he’d lied to her about something that big… even though he never had any romantic interest at all in that other character (and all this was only revealed because someone else had asked her to marry them, and she’d kept turning them down, because she couldn’t divorce Walter without him getting deported, but that was supposed to remain a secret… blah blah blah, misunderstandings ensue before the truth finally comes out…)

(ETA: This other character Walter was married to? Her name is Happy.)

Three seasons later, whoops Walter has made a sort of deathbed (drug-induced) love confession to Paige that he didn’t remember making (because drug-induced deathbed confession) BUT IT WAS VIDEOTAPED and then used against him later. When he realized what he’d confessed to her, he began pushing her away.

He found her a “regular” job so she wouldn’t be “in danger” from working with the team anymore, pushing her away emotionally, because he was terrified that now he’d confessed his love to HER that she would use that confession to break his heart. (because why would she love me back…)

Meanwhile she’s angry with HIM for pushing her away because she WANTS to work with the team, and it’s not his job to babysit her…

So Mr. Mittens is telling me this entire sordid tale, and I asked him, “But do you think they’re endgame for each other? Like they’ll eventually get together?” And he’s like “Absolutely. It’s obvious how much they love each other. They just need to communicate.”

And I sat through that entire description from him while eating a pancake like this:

(I have this gif saved as “dean chews judgmentally”)

So you can probably make all the comparisons ever to Dean and Cas through Paige and Walter, because the underlying story is almost beat for beat identical.

So tell me they aren’t writing this as a romance.

Jägerpet Backgrounds

Yes, I’m still thinking about this AU. Almighty Hat gave me some help with these backgrounds, especially Dimo and Oggie’s.

Had sensible, responsible owners, who fed him nutritious food, provided stimulation and crated him at night. They do care about him and occasionally check in on him at Tarvek’s – they find Tarvek’s way of handling him rather eccentric, what with having his own bedroom and owning books, but are glad someone nice is looking after him while they sort things out.

Has less trust issues than the others, but would like to stay with Tarvek.

Was owned by a nice old lady who treated him as a surrogate grandkid. Her children were less than thrilled to inherit him, especially when she’d “trained him” to act more like a kid than a pet. Eventually one of them abandoned him and told the others he’d been rehomed.

Is aware that some humans can be very nice and takes to Agatha quickly. Gets clingy and anxious about being left, or about something happening to her.

Was bought by a couple who wanted a pretty Jägerpet to dress up and fuss over but were not prepared for him to be a bundle of energy who still needed attention when they were done with him. Was abandoned for misbehaving out of boredom.

It’s probably a good thing that he’s temperamentally more inclined to feel hard done by than blame himself, but he’s very suspicious of people as a result. He suspects if people don’t get what they want from him they’ll just throw him out.

His owners were always relieved that he seemed an independent pet, content to do his own thing. He tended to get ignored and being quieter than the average Jägerpet made it easier for them to do so. He was more forgotten than abandoned – they forgot they’d brought him out with them that day and, not surprisingly, he’d wandered off when they got back.

Tends to feel it’s his responsibility not to get left behind. Tends to lurk where he can see Agatha so he knows she’s still there. Agatha has to work not to overlook him, especially with the more openly emotional Jägerpets around to distract her, but he’s not always fine just because he’s acting fine.

Jenka was defanged, much the way you’d declaw a cat. Her owner didn’t spend much time with her and when she got snappy with him and inclined to chew on things as a result he decided that was the solution. As a result she ran away from home.

Has a lot of trust issues. As far as she’s concerned, owners might tell you you’re going to the vet for a shot like last time and then you wake up with no teeth. She hangs around Agatha’s place mostly to check the other Jägerpets don’t need rescuing at first. She gets on somewhat well with homeless humans because they’ll often share food or shelter without trying to own her.

She’s going to be very glad to learn that her adult fangs are still there and will come in one day.

“I confess I do not believe in time. I like to fold my magic carpet, after use, in such a way as to superimpose one part of the pattern upon another. Let visitors trip. And the highest enjoyment of timelessness―in a landscape selected at random―is when I stand among rare butterflies and their food plants. This is ecstasy, and behind the ecstasy is something else, which is hard to explain. It is like a momentary vacuum into which rushes all that I love. A sense of oneness with sun and stone. A thrill of gratitude to whom it may concern―to the contrapuntal genius of human fate or to tender ghosts humoring a lucky mortal.”
