human fly

New original 3D animated movie: Ducks.
The secret life of ducks when humans aren’t looking.

Whenever ducks fly south in the winter, they’re actually flying to a big city of ducks where they talk and have jobs and have traffic lights with pictures of ducks in them and every billboard and storefront is a bird pun.

A generic duck guy is a young adult who feels inadequate because his dad is a big broker in the bread stock exchange.

He accidentally reveals the secret life of ducks to a human child, and now he must take her south with him to duck city. On the way they get into hijinks and find out about a big duck conspiracy or something.

Hufflepuffs are the ones who love. Who find beauty in fallen petals and drifting leaves. They are the ones who pull books from their shelves in a burst of nostalgia, only to to hold them in their hands and flip without thought through the pages. They smile as the rain falls down and laugh as their hair lifts in the breeze. They hang photos above their fireplaces and keep letters from their friends in battered boxes. They are the ones who know all of the words to their favorite songs. Who know what it takes to make another smile. They watch out their windows as sunsets turn over to dusk and wear sweaters so many times that the sleeves begin to fray. They cling to laughter and point to the stars as they peek out from behind the clouds. They are the ones who find beauty in life.

Ravenclaws are the ones who question. Who point at birds and ask why they can fly and humans can’t. They are the ones who pull up flowers to study the roots. Who would follow lines of ants when they were children. They are the ones who strike up conversation and point to the cobwebs on the ceiling. They listen to music for the instruments, not the words, and when they write, they end only because they have run out of parchment, not because they are short on things to say. They are the ones who try to teach themselves to knit. Who leave notes in the margins of books that drive librarians mad. They listen to conversation with rapt attention, gratefully jumping in whenever pause allows. They are the ones who lie awake at night, wondering about the universe and the depths of the ocean. They are the ones who find wonder in life.

Gryffindors are the ones who discover. Who plunge into the woods with nothing but the clothes on their backs. They are the ones who explore dust-ridden attics. Who fall into streams, only to find that the water is perfect temperature for swimming. They live for the sun beating against their cheeks and an untrodden path before them. They travel to places others have never heard of and return with thrilling tales and exciting stories. They are the ones who try new foods. Who watch foreign movies and dance alone in the early morning. They’ll pick a direction and drive for miles, stopping only when sleep decides to claim them. They push past flowers without fear of the thorns, cupping the small blossoms in their hands as they pass. They are the ones who find excitement in life.

Slytherins are the ones who dream. Who paint even though they never learned how. They are the ones who keep journals and write poetry. Who ask others to tell them a story. They stare at the clouds and watch them form shapes, unmindful of the grass prickling against their elbows. They are the ones who stay awake long after everyone else has fallen asleep. Who read books, and newspapers, and anything they can get their hands on. They wish on stars, eyelashes, and birthday candles, and their eyes gleam whenever someone mentions one of their passions. They are the ones who like to watch trees grow: from saplings to guardians of the forest. Who will study maps for hours on end. They close their eyes when they listen to music, and their thoughts are full of color. They are the ones who find hope in life.

“What toothpaste brand do you like?” you asked as you walked down the aisle. You were  too busy staring at the different brands of toothpaste in your hands to notice the person you were talking to wasn’t Hoseok.

“I like the one in your left hand” a strange voice responded.

Your head snapped up to look at the owner of the voice that didn’t belong Hoseok. As you took in his frame, he was definitely the complete opposite of the person you had mistaken him for.The boy in front of you was tall, muscular. His messy dark hair hidden beneath a beanie. He smiled at you and for a second you forgot how words worked, incapable of processing anything else that he was saying.

“I’m sorry, I thought you were my roommate” you nervously spat out as soon as you regained the ability to speak.

He laughed as the two of you stood awkwardly across from each other, “Don’t worry about it”

“Marco!” you heard Hoseok’s voice ring out through the otherwise quiet pharmacy.

“Polo” you responded as your cheeks flushed a million different shades of red as the boy’s face lit up even more. But you couldn’t get the nerve to look at him, avoiding eye contact by returning one of the tubes of toothpaste back onto the shelf you had taken it from. The sound of your rescue, Hoseok’s footsteps, got louder and louder as they filled the growing awkward silence between the two of you.

“Y/N, where have you been? I thought you got swallowed by a toothpaste monster or something” Hoseok teased as he walked up to the two of you.

Mr. Darcy drew his chair a little towards her, and said, “You cannot have a right to such very strong local attachment. You cannot have been always at Longbourn.”

Elizabeth looked surprised. The gentleman experienced some change of feeling; he drew back his chair, took a newspaper from the table, and, glancing over it, said, in a colder voice,

“Are you pleased with Kent?”

—  Jane Austen, Pride and Prejudice

We were both studying art at Sacramento State college in the early Seventies. It was a very strange art department in Sacramento at that time, too, because the whole student population was made up of hippies, and they were into witchcraft and metaphysics and everything else. We met up in a class called Art and Shamanism. The textbook for that class was called The Sacred Mushroom and the Cross, and the subject of that book is how the real topic of the Bible is the Amanita muscaria mushroom and that Christ is a metaphor for this magic mushroom. The kind of instructors we’d have would say: “I haven’t seen you in class for a while, what grade d'you want?” And we’d say, “Well, I guess an ‘A’ ”, and they’d say, “Okay.” So those were crazy times. It was just a very loose, very unique situation, and we met in that environment. We met in a very free way, and we fell in love very quickly.

I’d just started college, and one day I was hitchhiking back from the campus to my apartment, when Lux and a friend of his gave me a ride. I’d seen him around the campus, and I thought he was extremely exotic. He would have these pants and each leg of the pants was a different colour. That kind of thing fascinated me. Because it was the beginning of the new term, we had catalogues to see which classes we were going to take, so we were comparing to see if we’d be in any classes together. It turned out that we were, and that’s where our real meeting began.

I was sitting in the Art and Shamanism class when I saw Lux walking in. It was a very large class, too, because everybody knew the teacher got high, and I was sending out psychic brainwaves of, like: “Sit by me! Sit by me! Sit by me!” And he did. He came straight to me and sat next to me. We were making small talk and I said, “It’s my birthday”, and he pulled a drawing out of his portfolio and gave it to me as a birthday gift right then. It was a female figure, but it was very abstract expressionist. It had a lot of physical energy that I can’t describe in words.

I don’t know if it was past lives or what, but I felt like I’d known him all my life. It wasn’t like we’d just met. We were just together constantly, and we were pretty much out of our minds constantly, to be honest. We didn’t come to the surface for quite a long time.

In certain astrology, both regular astrology and Chinese astrology, there’s some things that say that Lux and I, we shouldn’t be together, and the reason is that the function of the astrology was to maintain social order. It had to do with arranged marriages and how a certain man would belong with a certain woman because it would fit in with the social order and they wouldn’t cause trouble. And combinations that they said were bad, it didn’t mean that they wouldn’t get along or wouldn’t enjoy each other’s company; what it might mean is they’ll start a revolution or that they’ll cause trouble or that they’ll set things on fire. I think we’re definitely the kind of pair that they would have tried to keep apart, because together we cause a lot of upheaval. From our point of view, it’s creation. We’re creating things.

We’re not married. I don’t know what you’d call what we are. We’re deeply in love and feel like we’ve been together for more than this lifetime, but we’re not aware of any particular ritual that would consecrate it in a way that makes sense to us. We sure don’t need to make it any kind of institutionalised situation. Nature upholds our bond.

There’s not anything that we deny each other. I’ll always hear somebody say, “Oh, I’d like to buy that but my wife would kill me”, or vice versa, and I’m, like, “God, what is that?” We don’t feel that either one of us has any right to say anything about the other’s needs. We just have to trust that person and what that person is entitled to. Fortunately, we happen to like a lot of the same things, but even if we didn’t, that shouldn’t matter. We’re both real free-thinkers. We’re nice to each other. There’s all those reasons why we’re together, but I think it’s also karmic. We’re karmically entwined.

He’s easy to love. He’s someone I can get crazy with, I knew that about him right away. I thought: “Oh boy, what’s gonna happen now? Something exciting!” It’s still happening.

—  Poison Ivy on how she met Lux Interior

There’s been a lot of posts on what if the ability to bond was humanity’s special deal among all living creatures out there in space but… What if it’s not specifically our bonding (which imo is hardly likely to be unique in the universe) but the extent of our altruism?

What if it’s the strength of our drive to help and save and protect that makes us unique? Especially because we will direct it not just at our own species but also at others as well?

Imagine humans becoming known for investing a lot of time and effort into altruistic acts towards any species, sentient or not, where pretty much every other species would have long given up or not even considered it.

Imagine tales of humans-led ships flying into war zones to rescue civilians. Tales of human ships going out of their way into danger zones to rescue another ship and its crew, even though it’s a completely different species.

Imagine an interstellar version of the Red Cross or the WWF. Imagine humans not standing by idly when wars are hitting the weakest in an alien population.

Imagine Earth, despite being small and basically a Death Planet, becoming also known as a refuge, a place to go when nowhere else in the universe is safe, because there’ll always be someone there willing to open their doors for you.

Imagine humans getting other aliens to cooperate or help them in their efforts. Imagine humans rallying great numbers for big rescue projects, like evacuating a planet’s population to another bc the first planet is about to blow up or so.

Imagine humans doing things expecting no reward or benefit, just because it is “the right thing to do”, using the strength of community that brought us so far as a species, and doing if for anyone, anything we encounter, no matter how many eyes or tentacles or whiskers or jaws, and this to the great bafflement of many, many species.
