Set in the art student!AU. I kind of skipped ahead a little to the first kiss between Alistair and Laura. Eventually, I’ll write this all in order. Probably.

“So, um, this is—this is me.” Laura gestured vaguely over her shoulder to her apartment door and Alistair chuckled lightly.

“I thought I recognized it,” he teased, laughter breaking into a nervous smile.

“Oh. Right. You live here too. Sorry.”

“That’s okay.” He stepped forward when her cheeks darkened, wanting to ease the mounting tension. “I forget it myself sometimes.”

“I had a really fun time tonight.”

“You did?” he asked.

He grinned and shifted forward again. “Me too.”

Laura glanced away with a light, nervous laugh. Her fingers came up and tucked her hair behind her ear. A few strands fell loose again and his fingers ached to reach out and touch them, to trace the outer curve of her ear, to see if her skin was as soft as it looked.

Or was it too fast? What if she felt like he was pressuring her? Or coming on too strong?

Alistair paused mid-step, body awkwardly frozen in place. “Um…”

“Yes?” she asked.

“W-well, I was wondering if… if I could… kiss you.”
