Phone Transmission

Phone Transmission

When the transmitter on MCR’s website was still active, if you hit the flashing numbers in a certain way, it would reveal the code “017602783136.” What most of us didn’t realize was that it wasn’t just a string of numbers–it was also a phone number. If you called the number “1 760 278 3136,” you’d hear a muffled transmission. Some of the words are hard to make out, but the word “Draculoid” is quite clear. One fan realized that the recording contained Morse code, and translated it to the following:

…  ….  .  ..  …  …  ._  .._.  .  ._  ._  ._

S H E I S S A F E A A A or maybe

SHE IS SAFE AAA

Another fan pointed out that “AAA” means “stop.” I don’t know how long this recording had been active, but it essentially told us the fate of the girl after the “SING” video.

At the time of writing this, you can actually still call the number and hear the transmission yourself. Or you can simply listen to the recording above!

We Need To Talk About Ramona Blue:

TO EVERYONE WHO GAVE THIS BOOK ONE STAR WITHOUT READING IT:

First off, know that I am not going away. I am going to stand here and scream this from the rooftops as many times as I have to. Because I am tired of my voice and my story being drowned out. This book tells my story. If I get even one person to at least consider they might be wrong, if even one person buys this book because of me, then I’ve made a difference.

I respect your opinion and based off of the original synopsis I completely understand why you felt that way - indeed I agree with you. I understand why the initial synopsis made you angry, really I do. The b.s. trope that lesbians (or any LGBT+ girl) can be ‘cured’ by finding the right boy is not just offensive and incorrect, but incredibly, incredibly harmful. And when it’s used as much as it is, it leads to people in the real world justifying their homophobic thoughts with - “I can f**k that girl, she’s secretly straight anyway. I can make her change her mind. She just needs the right guy.” Corrective rape is a very real danger and one that is directly impacted by words like those in that synopsis.

But this isn’t what the book is about. When the author, Julie Murphy @andimjulie, was informed of how offensive and harmful the synopsis/blurb was she started arranging to have it changed. Because here’s the thing: authors don’t get to write those. Some random person at the publishing house does. It’s that random person that made the harmful words and who misunderstood the book.

The new synopsis is up on this goodreads page now  . Please read it and maybe consider changing or removing your rating?

Because this book isn’t about 'lesbians can be cured.’ This book is about bisexual girls, girls just like me, who grow up not knowing that they are bi. Believing that because they like girls they must therefore be lesbians or because they like boys they must therefore be straight. I’m the latter; in this heteronormative world I spent years believing I was straight before I realised.

This book is for all the girls like me who think they fit into one box because they like someone and then one day, realise they have feelings for a different gender. It is about how confusing and scary and downright terrifying that is. It is about lying awake all night thinking “but does liking this boy mean i was straight all along?” “do i actually like him or is it because i’m supposed to?” it’s about worrying that you can’t change your identity because people already know you as a 'lesbian.’ Worrying that you’re just attention seeking or greedy or unable to make up your mind, that you’re on the fence and you need to choose.

This book is about the moment of relief when you finally find the name that suits you - bisexual. Or, perhaps when you decide that it’s okay to not know for sure right now. And how much weight is taken off you once you know who you are, and you have an identity.

I haven’t read the book yet but the new revised synopsis reflects that the book will actually be about those topics. You’re punishing the author for what someone else misunderstood and wrote as a harmful piece of promotion. Notice how different (and not harmful) the synopsis is now that it’s been written with the author’s suggestions instead of just by some dude? That to me suggests that the book itself, written entirely by her, will be much more like the new synopsis than the old one.

Oh, and you will also notice that I mentioned I haven’t read the book yet. So how then, you wonder, am I able to sit here and say that the book will be about all of the things above?

Because I am that girl. I went through all of those things. Mine was vice versa to Ramona - I believed that I had to be straight because I liked boys and if you like boys that’s all you can be right? Wrong. It was so, so hard for me to figure out who I am, where my place in this world is. It took me four years to get where I am (I’m 18 now). And I still haven’t finished this journey - my parents don’t know. I know, from reading this new synopsis, that that is what this book is about because I have lived it. I know because the author is bisexual, married to a man - she has lived it too.

Tumblr I just don’t get it. We cry and cry for more representation but when you have it you destroy it’s chances with negative reviews before it’s even begun. All because it’s the “wrong sort” of representation. You don’t want this bi girls story, my true story, because it shows that sometimes girls who like girls also like boys. Not always but sometimes. And sometimes we end up with those boys.

Please, buy this book. Promote this book, please at least undo this low rating until you have read it. This book could have saved me so much heartache when I was fourteen. It could have let me know that I was not alone. It could have saved me six months of self-harm, an emotionally abusive relationship, bullying for being 'frigid.’

I didn’t have this book when I was facing all those things. But the next bi or pan girl could. We could save them.

Representation is important. Lesbian representation and positive, good representation at that, is important. But so is bi girl representation. And this book just happens to be one for the bi girls. This doesn’t have to be either or, bi girls existing doesn’t mean that lesbians do not. Please, let’s not harm each other’s chance at representation. Let’s support each other.

Please, at least let’s read this book before we give it a rating. Please help the next girl like me before she is hurt.

how do you feel about q***r being used as an umbrella term for the LGBT+ community?

Oh my gosh! My friends & I had such a good discussion about this in one of my “Chosen Family: Stories of Queer Resilience” episodes. It’s a tough one! I personally like the term queer because I find it to be inclusive as an umbrella term & I personally don’t think of it as a slur. But I totally validate older generations of LGBTQ+ people who grew up with it as a slur who aren’t comfortable with using it to describe themselves. For perspective, imagine in 30 years LGBTQ+ youth calling themselves the [f word] community - I’m not sure how comfortable I’d be with that! So yeah it’s an interesting conversation that I definitely enjoyed exploring in an episode of the series. What do y’all think??

zeezerizer  asked:

do you know of any good ways to write a character's thoughts?

There are two ways to write character’s thoughts.

The first way is using direct style, this is when you write your character’s thoughts word by word separating them from the rest of your paragraph using quotation marks, or italics (many times it depends on how you write your dialogues, hyphens or quotation marks)

  • Ex. 1: The street was quiet. H. turned her head back when the sound of footsteps became louder. “I should’ve taken a cab” she thought
  • Ex. 1: The street was quiet. H. turned her head back when the sound of footsteps became louder. I should’ve taken a cab, she thought.

  • Ex. 2: He had knocked the door four times now. “Was the meeting today?”, F. thought.
  • Ex. 2: He had knocked the door four times now. Was the meeting today? F. thought.

The second ways is indirect style, this is when you write your character’s thoughts using the narrator’s voice.

  • Ex. 1: The street was quiet. H. turned her head back when the sound of footsteps became louder. She thought it would have beed better if she had taken a cab.
  • Ex. 2: He had knocked the door four times now. F. wondered if the meeting was today.

As you can see, the main different between styles is how the thoughts are presented.

Some things to remember:

Writing your character’s thoughts gives an insight to your readers about your characters, who they are, what they really think and how much it differs from what they say, or express with their bodies.

Not every thought matters. Write down only relevant thoughts, the ones that add something to the plot and character development.

Don’t overuse thoughts. If your story is written in third person omniciesnt, adding thoughts to every scene with every character will slow down your story. On the contrary, if you’re writing using first person, your character’s thoughts are important, but not every single one (read previous point).

Find the best way to tell your story, sometimes is better using third person than first one, or vice versa.

If you’re using third person focusing on one character, you can write their thoughts separating them from the rest of the paragraph using quotation marks or italics. In those cases, there’s no need to identify the character.

I seriously don’t give a fuck about how much a parent loves the name they gave their child or what it means to them because the minute you start using that as an excuse to not call your kid a name they’ve chosen to feel more comfortable in themself is the minute you choose a word over your actual child’s well being while also proving you have no idea how meaningful a name can be to someone

101 litre of tears

In regards to Kwon Hyunbin’s attitude on produce 101 during the team performance practices, I personally feel that Hyunbin is being misunderstood due to what mnet has purposefully edited and shown to its viewers. I’m sharing my personal views about this because this can be the difference between being eliminated and debuting.

During the Pick Me practice we were able to see how hardworking Hyunbin was, he practiced the dance together with other fellow trainees and its obvious how much Hyunbin is lacking in his dance skills, as he was unable to learn the dance choreography up to speed and has missed certain moves. However Hyunbin is very honest and very aware of how much he is lacking, it is clear that he makes up for his lack of skill with devotion and hard work.

I understand that Hyunbin is lacking in skills and experience in comparison to the other trainees however that doesn’t mean he’s completely lacking in will, commitment and hard work. It is extremely obvious how hardworking he is, however due to his lack of experience in training Hyunbin is not a fast learner and thus requires more time than others to fully familiarise himself with the routine. Hyunbin practised until late and even practiced the song in bed before sleeping and we could all see he practically fell asleep while holding his lyrics sheet.

During Hyunbin’s personal evaluation recording unfortunately he blanked out due to nervousness and anxiety which unfortunately cost him the opportunity to move up in rank. I personally believe that this particular stumble really affected Hyunbin because he genuinely thought he would have been able to show the trainers and viewers how much he has improved. Hyunbin’s mentality and confidence significantly dropped following his failure to move up in the grade rank evaluation.

Hyunbin’s hard work and efforts are strongly acknowledged amongst the fellow trainees and they all share kind words of encouragement to Hyunbin. They sympathise with him even more us they saw very clearly how hard he trained and it is extremely unfortunate that nervousness and anxiety took over him, preventing him from showcasing what he had practised for.

From very early on we as viewers were shown Hyunbin’s true personality, we see clearly he is just as hardworking and devoted as any A B C D or F ranking trainee, however it is unfortunate that Mnet had decided to depict Hyunbin very differently and negatively during the recent Team Performance practice, in episode 4. I was rather unimpressed with Mnet’s choice to focus solely on Hyunbin’s struggles, I would have much rather enjoyed seeing how Jonghyun lead the group and the groups vocal practices, especially since their vocalist Kim Jaehwan is an individual trainee and was also struggling with the choreography. Mnet’s choice to focus on Hyunbin and Jonghyun’s interactions lead to viewers to see only the negatives. Mnet had edited the sequence as to confuse and manipulate the viewers into seeing Hyunbin very negatively which is rather unfair.

As previously mentioned Hyunbin is definitely not the fastest learner among the bunch due to having no experience in training, however since practicing for the first mission until now he has shown he is slowly adapting and has learned to improve. I believe it was a blessing for Hyunbin to be chosen by Minhyun as he is now given to the opportunity to work alongside Jonghyun. Jonghyun was so incredibly patient and understanding to Hyunbin, he lead the team and Hyunbin in detail step by step. He also continually praised and encouraged Hyunbin that he also could follow the routine well, I believe this was certainly vital in Hyunbin’s overall improvement. As the team mission was right after the rank evaluation I believe Hyunbin’s personal confidence must have dropped significantly as he failed to move up in rank. He must have had so much self doubt built up within him as he believed no matter how much effort, and hard work he put into practicing, he would still not improve. However under Jonghyun’s sincere guidance Hyunbin made progress little by little, Jonghyun also helped Hyunbin rekindle his lost confidence and spirit.

Unfortunately during the dance practice evaluation by their dance coach Hyunbin once again was unable to showcase what he had learnt properly. Also since he is a slow learner I believe at this stage he most likely wasn’t fully familiar with the routine, now as previously mentioned he is  slow learner thus he will need a little more time than others. Which is fine as long as he continues to practice hard and doesn’t lose focus of his goal, he will soon build up more skill and be able to learn at the same pace as his fellow trainees. However it is unfortunate that the dance trainer isn’t on the same page as Hyunbin, but thats understandable as he is looking at the bigger picture and is worried that Hyunbin’s lack of skills may bring down the overall performance.

Hyunbin himself is the most aware of his skills and abilities hence he knows that he most definitely is not as prepared for this training evaluation with the trainer. When Hyunbin alongside Jaehwan are asked to showcase the routine they have learnt, they unfortunately do not perform to standard and maybe Hyunbin’s nerves and anxiety got to him again and he was unable to showcase what he has learnt. Jonghyun himself stated that he was confident in what Jaehwan and Hyunbin have learnt thus far as he was there guiding them along so he knows that they have learnt the routine and even though the weren’t the most amazing dancers, Jonghyun is aware that they would be able to complete the routine well. Jonghyun stated that his members should be able to do well, meaning he is aware of their abilities and knows that his members did do their best to learn the routine as everyone else, however he is nervous because he understands that his members are nervous and yes mistakes can happen.

I personally felt that is was extremely unfortunate that Jonghyun was pointed out as being the reason his members did not remember the routine. It felt extremely unfair since he was shown to have sincerely lead and guided the team really well during practice. Even though he was lectured Jonghyun still believed that it was his fault that he did not lead the team well enough. In reality each and every person learns at their own pace, and thats fine as we will all reach the finish line at our own pace.

I felt that Mnet’s choice to solely focus Hyunbin’s struggles to be so unfair as I would have enjoyed to see the whole teams dynamics together, more of Minhyun as he was the one who created this team overall, Seongwoo as he was the groups centre who was not lacking in dance or vocals, or maybe show us how he was struggling with the routine but picked himself up(similar to his struggles during the rank evaluation) and Jaehwan the individual trainee who shined with his vocals but needed a little more guidance with dance. I would have liked to see the team help both Jaehwan and Hyunbin with the routine. Also Daniel who was shown to be a bit at ill one point, it would have been nice to see more of Jonghyun’s interactions with each member as their leader, but unfortunately we were only shown what Mnet wanted us to see and that was only Hyunbin’s struggles and how he was bringing the team down, even though it was nice to see Jonghyun as the genuine and sincere leader to Hyunbin, it would have been even greater to see Jonghyun as the sincere leader to each one of his members. I believe that if we were shown the struggles of this as a whole, then none of us would have seen Hyunbin so negatively because we would instead see how this team was able to overcome each obstacle together.

Mnet’s choice to only showcase these various scenes was most certainly pre meditated, they knew that by showing these specific scenes it would paint Hyunbin in a very specific and negative manner. While it is true that Hyunbin is lacking in many departments, I was sure he wasn’t lacking in hard work and determination as shown during the rank evaluation, hence to see Hyunbin acting like so did make me disappointed and question his recent change in behaviour. However it is simple to understand as Hyunbin had never been a trainee before in his life he is now still adapting to trainee schedules and routines thus he will want to rest more than others, not because he is lazy but because he physically cannot keep up to the other members. Kwon Hyunbin is not lazy he simply has not built up the same stamina and resistance as the other members hence he is still adapting to the long hours of training, Hyunbin is physically not able to keep up but he is trying to. As Hyunbin was a trainee in a modelling agency I doubt he underwent intense and rigorous training hours as his members in actual talent agencies.

Kim Jonghyun - training period - 8 years 2 months

Hwang Minhyun - training period - 6 years 3 months

Kim Jaehwan - training period - 4 years 2 months

Kang Daniel - training period - 2 years 1 months

Ong Seongwu - training period - 8 months

Kwon Hyunbin - training period - 3 months

These type of scenes where Hyunbin is shown to be not practicing, resting or when he was shown hiding in a small practice room seem to be very ambiguous as it was never shown why he was doing so. When the members are tired they may wish to rest and that is completely fair, however they only show Hyunbin resting making it seem like he was the only one do so while everyone practiced continuously, obviously that is untrue as I’m sure they all practiced and rested together. I’m aware that Hyunbin took more breaks but as previously mentioned he is simply not physically able to keep up with the members, also its unfair that Mnet did not show when Hyunbin would get back into practicing, as Hyunbin would rest for a bit but he would always come back to practicing, and overtime I’m sure he would develop stronger stamina and resistance to practice with his members. Also it was super ambiguous for Mnet to show Hyunbin hiding in the small practice room, we could all see he was holding a lyrics sheet and had an mp3 player with him, Hyunbin could have been practicing by himself because he was aware that he is lacking. Maybe he wanted to quickly improve by himself that by the time he went back to vocal practice he would be able to show his members how he’s improved. Hence once again I am disappointed in Mnet’s choice to only focus on the groups dance as opposed to vocal practice.

Also yet another ambiguous scene by Mnet is when Hyunbin has trouble with his contact lenses, for all we know Hyunbin could have went back to the dormitory sorted out the issue and immediately returned to practice with his team members, we don’t know because Mnet never showed us that hence it leads the viewers guessing and can lead to them assuming he went back to the dorm to sleep and took hours to come back to practice.

Daniels cut in particular was also very ambiguous because we do not know exactly when he said those words, it could have been when Hyunbin left to fix his contacts or maybe even during the beginning when Jonghyun was teaching Hyunbin step by step through the choreography, or even during vocal practice where Hyunbin might have also been struggling. The truth is we can never be sure because this is Mnet’s intention, they are intentionally being ambiguous and this is incredibly wrong because this can be the difference between being eliminated and debuting, and that goes for all of the trainees because I’m sure Hyunbin’s not the only one being negatively portrayed.

During another one of the teams dance practices Hyunbin once again is shown leaving the practice room momentarily before being called back in by Leader Jonghyun. Here we are shown a sequence where Hyunbin is being lectured for not putting in all his effort and determination to train. Hyunbin is once again reminded that if he doesn’t do well at all than thats all everyone will see of him, not to mention it will also bring the team down overall. I’m extremely glad that Hyunbin was lectured by Jonghyun because it’s obvious to anyone who looks Hyunbin had momentarily lost his drive and confidence to do well. He wasn’t able to show himself in the first challenge and thus lost the chance to move up in rank, he wasn’t able to show himself during dance evaluation and again lost his confidence in his ability to even improve.

Let’s backtrack to the first mission, when Hyunbin was unable to to perform due to nerves and anxiety he broke down because he felt that despite all his efforts he was just not going to improve and that heavily broke his spirits. So now that Jonghyun is lecturing him we can see that Hyunbin is looking down and fidgeting with his hands at one point. Personally I feel that Hyunbin is feeling extremely guilty because he is aware that his lacking self is bringing down the teams overall performance. The reason why I think so is because I also share similar self doubts as Hyunbin, when I’m confronted like Hyunbin by Jonghyun I look down, I fidget, quietly apologise and don’t even try to explain myself, I do this not because I don’t care that I’m being lectured or yelled at but because I’m feeling extreme guilt inside. Hyunbin is feeling extreme guilt, and disappointment towards himself, the boy wants to do well but momentarily he has lost his drive, his spirits and his confidence.

Hence why I’m so glad Jonghyun is lecturing him because Jonghyun questions why he is in the competition. Jonghyun shares with Hyunbin that for him this competition is is last chance to succeed, he bets his life on this. I believe after hearing Jonghyun’s sincere words Hyunbin was also reminded of why he was here to compete, Hyunbin was able to find his drive and motivation to work even harder to succeed.

Jonghyun really deserves the title of Nation’s Leader for he showed just so much patience and understanding with Hyunbin, I’m so thankful that Hyunbin was able to train alongside Jonghyun as without him maybe Hyunbin would have continued to spiral down after losing his confidence and motivation. I’m glad that Hyunbin was able to pick himself up and also hope he continues to work even harder in the future.

We can see obviously here that Hyunbin after being reprimanded by Jonghyun was able to finally show both himself, his team and the trainers that he is a genuine and hardworking person. With Jonghyun’s sincere and genuine guidance we were able to see a perfect performance by all the members as a team.

From the beginning we were able to see what type of person Kwon Hyunbin truly is, he has a drive, he is hardworking and very determined because he a like many others have given up so much to compete in Produce 101. Hyunbin was a very well established model prior to Produce 101 I knew his face from all the fashion weeks and editorials in which he appeared in, give him 1-2 years and his face might have appeared in many foreign editorials and advertisements, he could have also walked in many NY, London and Paris fashion week runways. Because of this I personally find it easy to cross off him wanting to be an idol for fame because as a model Hyunbin could have easily established more fame and success for himself. However Hyunbin has chosen to not take part in this season and for those who don’t know the fashion industry moves extremely fast, many designers create their collections a year in advance hence various of trends are already being considered way before it is released on the market. Designers don’t wait for trends, they create them hence Hyunbin choosing to participate in Produce 101 for the duration of 5-6 months has drastically impacted on his career. Even if Hyunbin does not debut and chooses to return to modelling after Produce 101 has ended it’ll still be a significant challenge for Hyunbin to be hired and casted because he has now missed a whole season and within this time numerous of male models would have taken his spot. The fashion and modelling industry is harsh, because their are millions of models around the globe happy to take your position.

However none of that matters to Hyunbin because he sincerely wishes to debut, hence in spite of how you once viewed Hyunbin I hope you can all now see who he genuinely is and not what Mnet has portrayed him to be.

Russian names: pet names

As in, names for loved ones, not for pets, although those are fun, too.

(I’ve been considering a post like this for a long time, and then I got an ask requesting it, so I decided to go ahead and pick up my drafts. Dear person who requested it, I’m very sorry, I accidentally clicked “send” before I took note of your URL, that’s why I’m not tagging you. Credits for prompting this are yours, anyway.)

Most Russian partners and spouses address and refer to each other by the diminutives or their first names, sometimes using a slightly different version than everyone else (Vitka or Vitenka, rather than just Vitya, Yurka or Yurochka rather than Yura), but generally, they use the same names for each other as their siblings and close friends use for them.

Also, Russians in general (especially Russian men, Georgi Popovich notwithstanding) are a little (okay, a lot) more reserved than people in a lot of other countries; ending every phone call with “I love you”, making sure there are always fresh flowers in the house and bringing each other breakfast in bed isn’t something that happens very often, not even in novels..

Therefore, not a lot of Russians make up pet names for each other, call each other something new and sweet every day or even explicitly say “I love you” at all.

That said, pet names still do exist, and people do use them - sometimes sincerely, and sometimes jokingly or even in mocking.

Before I begin my three-page rant on Russian nicknames, I’d like to make sure we’re clear about three things.

First, my transliteration isn’t the only correct way to spell it. There’s often no right way to transliterate some words or letters, so if you see and like some other way to spell some word - go ahead and use that, it most possibly doesn’t matter. Just watch out for o/a and e/i in unstressed syllables (it’s YurOchka, VitEnka), because those, if spelled wrong, look like spelling mistakes rather than alternative transliterations.

Second, YMMV. Russia is huge. Dialects exist. People are different. There’s a good chance someone may use some words differently, and that’s okay.

Third, I hope everyone’s aware that it’s also okay to use any words you like in your fanfic, even if they only sound Russian, or don’t even sound Russian at all; it’s your text, you’re the one who’s creating the universe your characters live in; the Russia in your fanfic doesn’t have to be exactly the same as the Russia that exists in our world.

If, however, you want to stick to the real-life Russian pet names, this text is for you.

The first thing that’s important to remember when picking a Russian endearment is gender. A lot of Russian words aren’t gender-neutral, and using the wrong gender makes it hilarious if the person is secure in their gender or offensive, if they have gender-related issues. So please, make sure you pick a gender-neutral word or use the correct version of a gendered one. I marked all feminine words with an f, and all masculine with an m, and explicitly stated if the word is gender-neutral.

The word most frequently used in fanfic, “дорогой(m, dorogoy)/дорогая(f, dorogaya)” is, indeed, the equivalent for “darling”, but in real life it’s hardly ever used as an endearment. Instead, it’s more of a word for old married couples: “Dorogaya, you ruined my life, - You’re not exactly a gift yourself, dorogoy!”. It’s used ironically or jokingly much more often than as an actual way to address someone you love. It’s also the same word as “expensive”, so statements like “Moya dorogaya is very dorogaya, that’s the third silver necklace this week” aren’t unheard of.

Much more often used is “милый(m, miliy)/милая(f, milaya)”. It basically means the same - “dear/darling” - but sounds more gentle and intimate. Young women use that, along with lubimiy, on girly forums to refer to their boyfriends (”Last night miliy said that I…”).

• You show up to your first class. No one is there. You check your schedule. You double check your schedule. You are in the right place.

• You have an essay due in 30 minutes. You open word processor but every time you type a word it is replaced with   H O W   D O   Y O U   F E E L    in thick, black font. You don’t know how to answer.

• You go to the library to study every monday. It is always Monday. Why aren’t you at the library yet?

• You check your enrollment. Surely you didn’t sign up for three Psych 100 courses. The enrollment list stares back at you. Now all your classes are Psych 100.

• Your professor asks the class what the stages of grief are. You know this. You know this. Denial, anger, bargaining, depression, acceptance, yearly sacrifice.

• Your transcript asks if you are an arts or a sciences major. The page loads question marks for what feels like miles. You can’t decide either.

Lol. Pardon my french here but… I get called an asshole and no offense right? Everything is fine

But I use the retard word and is like freaking disney droped the F bomb on a movie.

Guys lmfao, I’m from chile. My latinamerican fellas will understand here AND will back me up. We call eachother names all the time I guess the problem here, is how each country sees a word. Is a matter of culture.

Nobody, around here in this country finds any inch of offense in the that word some of you put in such high place like it’s a god you can’t look at.

Maybe tacos is an offensive word in… freaking… Qatar. And people there will look at you like the worst person ever like “DID YOU JUST CALL MY MOM TACOS?”

And hey! Is similar case here! We have WAY more tolerance towards these words.. oh excuse me, “OFFENSIVE WORDSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!” Amd we call eachother that and other words that might be considered offensive and we don’t give a simple crap about it.

If by any chance your tolerance towards chilean people like me who treat words like these daily without any offense taken. Dude, wth man? I don’t have time to deal with your idiotic small brain that can’t process and or understand that there are people outside your country with different opinions on language….

Are you new to the internet? There are other countries aside from Muricaland, with people that think and speak differently. If you can’t respect that then at least have the decency to NOT call me an “ASSHOLE” for it. That’s a pretty strong word in the english language as far as I’m concerned. So… piss off will ya?

lgbt+ (ya/mg) books read in 2016!

so a lot of people still reblog my “60+ queer books” post from 2014. ngl, i was barely 16 at the time and had not read a lot of books on that list (it was def intended to be more a listing than pure recommendation), mostly because adult fiction was and remains far from my favorite literary category. this list isn’t as intensely detailed, but i just thought that since the year is over i might jot down some of the lgbt+ books i loved or at least moderately enjoyed this year, in case anyone was interested! happy reading!

(and in advance, excuse my commentary o<-<)

ya favorites

  • i’ll give you the sun by jandy nelson — m/m. HEART-WRENCHING. GUTTING. EARTH-SHATTERING.
  • we are the ants by shaun david hutchinson m/m (suicide cw)
  • my most excellent year by steve kugler m/m. gay asam main character and the best character dynamics ❤️____❤️
  • the flywheel by erin gough f/f
  • gives light (6-part series) by rose christo — m/m. centered around a mute main character on an indian reservation (written by a native author!), features one of the most uplifting romances of recent media (cw for csa mention later in the series)

other ya books
ordered approximately by rating

  • far from you by tess sharpe — f/f. bisexual protagonist (drug addiction, murder cw) a book on recovery, love, trust, justice, understanding… gut punch!!!!!
  • into the blue by pene henson — m/m
  • not your sidekick by c.b. lee — f/f. DOES THE TITLE NOT MAKE UR HEART SQUEEZE ALREADY? features half-chinese & half-vietnamese bisexual protagonist in futuristic superheroic universe! the second book will be about a trans black side character *___*
  • starting from here by lisa jenn bigelow — f/f. you will cry and be made a better person for it.
  • almost like being in love by steve kugler — m/m
  • tell me again how a crush should feel by sara farizan— f/f. sometimes this book is like :|||| but sometimes it’s like :DDDD! persian american protagonist.
  • the darkest part of the forest by holly black — both m/f and m/m (like i’ll give you the sun). for your slightly more indulgent ya needs!
  • you know me well by nina lacour, david levithan — f/f, m/m
  • the great american whatever by tim federle — m/m. if you enjoy mg or find its lgbt+ subsection especially important (or both, like me!), definitely make sure you check out federle’s better nate than ever series!
  • last seen leaving by caleb roehrig — m/m
  • wonders of the invisible world by christopher barzak — m/m. magical realism fix may be found here 👍
  • true letters from a fictional life by kenneth logan — m/m. tbh people call it the “male version of ‘to all the boys i’ve loved before’” but also neglect mentioning that it’s a lot whiter, too. where’s that supportive covey family goodness… that precocious but caring lara jean spirit? it’s just not there…
  • colorblind by siera maley — f/f
  • her name in the sky by kelly quindlen — f/f
  • radio silence by alice oseman — f/f, m/m, not hugely romance-focused

middle grade
there were very few releases this year that i was aware of, unfortunately! my old list’s selection remains a good place to look. here are 3 that i would recommend though:

(i think i might have read george in 2015, but i felt that i might as well put them all together!)

  • george by alex gino — follows the story of a trans girl. its storyline is similar to gracefully grayson, but unlike gg it is written by a trans author!
  • the other boy by m.g. hennessey — follows the story of a trans boy. pretty solid story except… uncalled for random racist comment in the middle of the book… wyd (waiting for the mg genre to grow more inclusive of lgbt+ children of color! not being racially hostile is the FIRST STEP.)
  • gracefully grayson by ami polansky

+ A GRAPHIC NOVEL MOST OF U HAVE PROBABLY READ ALREADY: LUMBERJANES!! love it breathe it read it

if you want some mg books that have casually gay side/main-ish characters, i can name the wolf wilder and the thing about jellyfish, although… you have to kind of dig for it, so i wouldn’t call these revolutionary moments of representation, but! it’s just a nice addition to separate stories that remind you that the middle grade genre can be inclusive w/o becoming entirely issue-based (which i find sometimes more inaccessible for children? i ramble!). i do believe it’s good for young children to read this kind of fiction, too!

__

finally, some lgbt+ books i did not enjoy or care for in any capacity, for posterity: highly illogical behavior (gross narrative surrounding mental health, sexuality), symptoms of being human (ya book abt a nonbinary character; written by cis author who bscly uses sexual assault as plot device & doesn’t acknowledge neutral pronouns?), know not why (really unapologetically homophobic tbh), whatever.: or how junior year became totally f$@ked, more happy than not (so… bleak…), see you at harry’s, and lily and dunkin (this is the fourth mg book about a trans character that i’m aware of; i found its message hugely alarming and invalidating). that doesn’t mean you won’t enjoy them, though!

WANT TO BE TAGGED?

MASTERLIST

“Let me go! I can help!” you exclaimed loudly, your voice resonating through the Batcave. Your posture was rigid and one of defiance and you knew that going against your father was a grave idea, but you couldn’t help it. Bruce stared at you coldly and shook his head, ignoring your pleads again. That only fueled your anger. “Dad!”

“I will not risk your life, [F/N]. This mission is dangerous.” he said calmly, moving to prepare himself, Tim not too far behind him. “You are much more useful here.”

Though those words stung, you bit back your insults and instead tried to convince him that you were capable, at least, that was your intention. What came out of your mouth instead made you sound like a whiny brat.

“But Tim gets to go! And Dick! Why can’t I?!” you complained furiously. “I’ve trained all my life, I have been on countless missions, yet you always keep me sheltered! How am I supposed to learn?! Are you not proud of me, is that it?!

With a sigh, Bruce turned to look at you, “no, [F/N], it’s not like that… it’s–your graduation is tomorrow, I don’t want you hurting yourself. We can afford to take a punch to the face, but you can’t.”

“What kind of excuse is that?!” you snapped, “graduation? Last time I checked even when you had a meeting with the American president you still went on patrol and missions. A bruise or two can be fixed with make-up. You’re just making excuses because you don’t want me to go!” Your voice rose in volume as your rant continued, all that pent up frustration and anger you held came rushing out all at once. “You know, I can never learn because you are always trying to keep me safe, but I don’t need your protection! I can handle myself! Just let me go and I’ll prove to you–”

“Enough!” Bruce yelled, causing you to stop immediately and shrink back slightly. He looked and sounded angry, and you knew when your dad was angry, there was no convincing him. “You are to stay here, assist us any way possible and you do not, under any circumstances, leave the premise. Is that clear?”

“But–”

Is that clear?” he repeated, his eyes glinting with fury, warning you to stand down. You reluctantly nodded your head.

With your teeth gritted, you managed to say, “yes dad.”

Bruce released a deep breath and recomposed himself. “Good. Then we’ll get going now. Tim?” The younger boy stepped forward, but stayed behind when Bruce walked to the Batmobile. He placed a hand on your shoulder.

“Sorry [F/N]…” he murmured, looking guilty. You shook your head, not trusting your words to be genuine and kind. You were absolutely, abominably furious and you knew anything that came out of your mouth would be nothing short of venomous.

You watched them take off and stared at the way they exit even after they left. On any other day, you would calm down, but this time you couldn’t but grow increasingly resentful of your family’s decision to leave you behind. Hadn’t you proved time and time again that you were capable? You were born for this life. You had began training ever since you could walk and you could proudly say you matched Dick’s flexibility and Tim’s wits. You were as skilled as any of them, and you were going to prove it.

With a surge of confidence and indescribable rage, you changed into your costume, hopped on your motorbike and sped off into the city, defying your orders for the first time in your life.

It was almost laughable, the sight that you were staring at. The sight was pitiful really–the polluted night sky, the smog obscuring the stars that made the darkness a priceless piece of art. You wanted to turn away, turn away from the very thing that showed how the world had fallen, but you had no power to move.

You winced every time you breathed. Blood oozed out of the wound on your chest, the wound that was inflicted to you while you were trying to shield a little boy from harm. Now, you were lying on an abandoned street, hand pressing just a minimal part of the large wound.

You felt lightheaded and everything was blurring out. You were so tired, but you fought to stay awake. At the back of your mind, you knew what the fatigue meant, but you didn’t want to go.

You heard rapid footsteps approaching you and your heartbeat increased in fear of who in may be. When you saw your dad, your fear only increased. You couldn’t tell his expression under his mask. You felt his arms snake under you but when he tried to lift you up, you cried out, causing him to stop. He placed his hand over yours, helping you press against the wound even when you two knew it was hopeless.

“D-Dad… I’m sorry…” you gasped, feeling tears well up. Your lips trembled as you tried to apologize, apologize for not listening to him, for not trusting him. “I-I’m so sorry, I-I–”

“Shh, it’s okay, it’s okay.” Bruce cooed, holding you closely, yet still being gentle. He sounded so lost, so utterly broken. You tried to nod, but you couldn’t.

“C-Can you… ta-take off your cowl? I want t-to see you.” you requested quietly. He did as you asked him and you couldn’t help but smile when you saw your dad’s face. Although he looked like he was on the verge of tears and was desperately trying to keep it together, you couldn’t help but remember all the times he put you to bed, found time to read you bedtime stories when you were little and allowed you into his bed when you had a nightmare. You couldn’t help but remember him ruffling your hair after the end of each training session and congratulating you in his own, special and unique way when you did something right. You remembered all of that, and your heart ached because you knew it was ending. You could never have any of that again.

With a small, feeble voice that could be lost in the wind, you whimpered, “Dad… I-I’m scared… I-I don’t want to d-die.” You began to cry and he stroked your hair, trying to calm you down. His eyes glistened with unshed tears.

“Hey, you’re not going to die.” he said the beautiful lie in a wavered voice. When you wouldn’t stop weeping, he continued, “listen to me, let me tell you what’s going to happen.” Through the tears, he smiled.

He began in the gentlest of voices, “tomorrow… we’ll be in the auditorium of your school for your graduation. When they call your name… you will get your diploma, and your brothers and I will be in the audience, clapping the loudest of all. And–” he swallowed as he tried to keep his voice steady, “–and when you come down, we’ll be waiting for you.” He sounded distant now, but you could hear how his voice cracked. “We’ll hand you a bouquet of [F/F], and we’ll embrace you, and I will say…” a tear fell from his face when he saw how your eyes were slowly losing their shine, “I’m proud of you, [F/N].” You smiled; all you wanted was to make your dad proud.

No father is as proud as I am of you.”

And with those words, you were at peace.

anonymous asked:

Okay but going to a wedding with harry in a tropical place and my god he gets drunk and talks about how he can't wait to marry you and I really should stop talking before I hate myself

And maybe the reception is being held at a venue that’s on the beach, but it’s obviously not right on the water. It’s been a few hours into the reception, because the couple decided to make it into an actual party, not a formal event that ends in two hours, and the two of you have somehow wandered off away from said party towards the water. You’ve had a couple of drinks, but Harry’s definitely had more, and you know he won’t touch alcohol for weeks after tonight, but god he’s cute when he’s drunk, isn’t he? You’ve had an arm around him to steady him while you walk along the water, and he’s clinging to you. All you’ve got to light your way is the moon, but it’s big and bright in the sky. You can still hear the music coming from the reception, but it fades out the longer you walk, and soon enough all that you can hear are waves crashing just a few inches away from your feet and Harry humming.

He’s got his suit pants rolled up a bit, so that they’re not dragging through the water, and you try not to think about how expensive that goddamn suit was when he sits down in the wet sand just beyond the shore and grins up at you. He makes grabby hands at you, and you want to tell him no, because you are very much aware of how expensive the dress you’re wearing is, but you give in before you really ever talk yourself out of it when he spreads his legs to make room for you to sit between them. Which you do, and he wraps his arms around you immediately, and you rest back against his chest. “’M gonna’ marry you. One day,” he says after a long moment of just listening to each other breathe, breaking your comfortable silence for the first time in fifteen minutes probably. You laugh, though, and shake your head. “You’re drunk,” you tell him, and he attacks your neck with kisses. “’M not,” he argues, and you glance back at him, a fond expression on your face. “Tell me what kind of wedding we’re gonna’ have, then,” you murmur, and he pulls his bottom lip between his fingers like he does when he’s thinking about something he really cares about. It makes your heart beat a little bit quicker in your chest.

“Tha’ mean you’d say ‘yes?’“ He questions, and it’s not what you were expecting him to say, and you feel the blush creep onto your cheeks as your hands move to hold his over your tummy. He’s drunk and probably won’t remember come morning, anyway, so you decide to at least be truthful, even if he’s joking. “Of course,” you nearly whisper, and you feel him full on smiling against your neck. “Dunno’ if we’d have a tropical wedding, like this one,” he starts, and you raise your eyebrows. “You love the ocean, though,” you point out, and he nods, shrugging. “Yeah, but – I dunno’. Doesn’t seem very us, does it? I don’ think we’d get married on a beach,” he reasons, and you nod like you understand exactly what he means, and you kind of think you do. You almost always vacation wherever there’s a beach, but for whatever reason, you don’t see that being the place you’d get married, either.

“Think I’d wanna’ get married in Holmes Chapel,” you tell him, and he’s the one who raises an eyebrow this time. “Why’s that?” He questions and you grin before you situate yourself so that you’ve turned around to face him, basically sitting on his lap with your dress pushed up around your thighs so that you could wrap your legs around his waist. He’s smiling up at you. It gives you butterflies. “Like how happy you are when you’re there,” you murmur, and he smiles wider. “Would want it t’be intimate and kinda’ traditional, I think. Nothin’ exotic. ‘S about us, yeah?” You nearly whisper and he rubs along your hips. “‘M gonna’ marry you,” he says again, but this time his words are a bit firmer, and you just shake your head. “I mean it – even ‘f I am drunk,” he giggles, and you’re laughing, too, leaning forward to press a kiss to his lips. “One day,” he adds, and you shush him, kissing him again. You don’t know if he’s too drunk to remember this come morning, but you think it’s something you’ll remind him of if your wedding day ever does come.

Drunken Mistakes [Jason Todd x Reader]

A/N: I’m sorry but no fluff here. There’s been too much fluff lol

Warning: Angst, Swearing

(Part 2 - Changed [Criminal Minds Crossover])

______

Your friends and family always told you to leave him. That you were just a current attraction, that it would never last. How he had you wrapped around his finger and constantly walks all over you.

You never thought about it that way. You always thought it was being flexible. They don’t know his past the way you do. They don’t know that he’s out cleaning up Gotham’s streets every night. Yes, you often bend to his needs more than he does yours.

You’re the one who keeps the apartment clean, cooks dinner, does the laundry, goes grocery shopping, all while attending school and keeping a steady job. Jason would help you if he had the time right? But he doesn’t every day its a new mission with Bats or the Outlaws.

Basically Jason said ‘jump’ and you ask ‘how high?’ But you were used to it. You love him and would do anything for him. And he loves you. One thing you pride your relationship on is that he never even glances the way of another girl.

Well at least that’s what you thought and what his friend would tell you, though you never asked to be told.

Jason had been gone with the Outlaws for a four day mission, but was getting home a day late tonight. It was often the Outlaws would get hung up and ended up getting home later than supposed too. One of them always texted or called if that was the case.

You always stay up and wait for when he gets home from long missions.

Sitting on your couch you skimmed through a book waiting for him to walk through the door, and it didn’t take too long for that happen.

Hearing the noise of keys in the lock, you pulled the book from your face and glanced at the hallway. When the sound of the door opening reached your ears.

Setting the book aside when he came into view. “Welcome home Jay” standing to meet him halfway.

“Hey babe” He replied, but there was something off about his tone and demeanor. “What’s wrong?” asking, a confused expression making it’s way to your face.

He shifted uncomfortable, “[F/n] I did something, something bad” not meeting your eyes. Tilting your head to meet his eyes, asking “What? You can tell me”

“I-I got really drunk last night. Roy, Kori, and I all went out to celebrate the success and we all got super drunk and I honestly didn’t mean of any of this to happen it was all a mistake” his eyes bore into yours with regret.

He’s not going to say what you think he’s going to say is he?

“Jay you’re scaring me” taking a small step back.

“I’m so sorry [F/n], I cheated on you” you could feel your breath stop as tears came to your eyes. “What?”

“It was all a mistake, I didn’t want any of it to happen. It meant nothing to me, I barley even remember last night” not realizing that those words made it worse.

“Obviously it meant something if it’s one of the few things you remember!” yelling through your tears.

“NO! That’s not what I meant” He said before you turned your back. Not able to look at him. Arms crossed over your stomach as tears streamed down your cheeks.

He reached out, when his fingers barley grazed your skin you turned and stepped away from him. “Don’t touch me!” growling shortly. Your tone was a mixture of sadness, anger, confusion, and most importantly betrayal.

“God I was so fucking stupid! I should’ve listened to them, my friends, my family. They were so damn right! What even am I Jason? Other than your goddamn door mat!” screaming at him. You’d never yelled at him like this before.

“You’re not my doormat! I love you [F/n]! You’re the love of my life!” he yelled back. Desperation filling his expression, tone, his whole being completely.

“Then why do I feel so unloved huh? Why do I feel like I’m just something you come back too? Like I’m some goddamn collectable!” You had no idea you felt like this until the words were spilling out of your mouth. He’s been using you this whole time, how can you trust what he’s saying now?

When he didn’t answer, you just shook your head. A scoff escaping your lips, “I’m fucking done” turning your back to get a jacket from the coat rack.

“[F/n] please” he tried to stop you. “I can’t loose you, it won’t ever happen again”

“Well I can’t fucking take this anymore Jason! It shouldn’t have happened in the first place. I can’t come back to a empty apartment for the rest of my life. I’m so–” You stopped realizing something, “No, I’m not sorry. I have nothing to be sorry for” Turning your back to him for the last time and putting a hand on the door knob.

“Goodbye Jason, I hope your fling was worth it” Opening the door before stepping out. Not having noticed his attempt to stop the door before you slammed it shut. You stayed leaning against the door, finally letting out a strained sob while covering your mouth.

Jason was leaning on the door by his forearms. His head hanging between his arms. Tears stinging at his own eyes. ‘How could I be so stupid? I’m such a fucking idiot’ he thought before pushing himself up.

Turning around, in a moment of rage he punched a whole straight through the wall. Before finally breaking down.

How could he hurt you like that?

Imagine Ed accidentally reading your journal and finding out how much you dislike yourself.

“This very thing you were born with pleases us all. It’s even capable of making men fall, while only experienced by few it’s treasured by all. What am I?”

You blinked at Ed, shifting your feet uncomfortable, “Sorry, Ed, I’m not really in the mood for riddles-”

“Your beauty.”

You ducked your head, a light blush tinting your cheeks. “I appreciate the sentiment, Ed, but I’m not beautiful.”

“Yes, you are,” Ed interrupted, his smile vanishing as he repeated the words. “Yes, you are, [f/n].”

You pressed your lips together, “Ed-”

“I found your journal.”

You froze.

Ed licked his lips, clearly unsure of how to continue. Eventually, he mumbled, “I didn’t realize what it was at first. It was not my intention to violate your privacy but…” He paused and ducked his head, “Do you really dislike yourself that much, [f/n]?”

You clenched your jaw, “No one was supposed to read that,” you whispered at last.

Ed hesitantly reached forwards, his fingers touching yours. “I offer my sincerest apologies. But, [f/n], you are not the things you wrote. You are not too loud. You do not talk too much. I thoroughly enjoy listening to you. I do not find your interests random or stupid. In my eyes, you are absolutely perfect. I wish there was a way for you to see that in regards to yourself.”
