how to not be heterosexual 101

anonymous asked:

SJ is saying that the toxic relationship song is romantic. Wow, now we have to accept a toxic relationship as something good and admirable. Why you think it will be a stunt song?

Erm, who or what is SJ? Sorry, I’m not 110% in the loop like I used to be. But I tagged “Back to You” as a stunt song, so it must be about that.

It’s gonna be a stunt song because 1D is still about that bullshit, unfortunately. So just like with Zayn and Harry, Louis’ songs will be subject to hetero-speculation. All the better to closet them with, my dear. BTY is too convenient. I mean the title alone instantly makes you associate it with the farce that is Elounor. I see since I guessed that, the narrative has already moved in that direction.

Louis said in a statement. “It’s about that one person that no matter how hard you try, you keep coming back to.”

Could it be about his girlfriend Eleanor Calder, whom he rekindled a relationship with after their 2015 breakup?

Spare me. This is why I can’t like I used to. It’s 2017. Soon I’ll be 23. I don’t want 1D’s music to be marketed to me like I’m a gullible teenager. IDGAF about Eleanor Calder or the still dubious as ever heterosexualization of Louis Tomlinson. It’s just really really stupidly unbelievable and extra at this point.

Right-Wing Theory 101

RICH PEOPLE ARE BETTER THAN POOR PEOPLE:
Obviously, otherwise they wouldn’t be rich.

WHITE PEOPLE ARE BETTER THAN BLACK PEOPLE:
You can tell by how often we have them arrested.

MEN ARE BETTER THAN WOMEN:
It’s biology, people!

CHRISTIANS [sic] ARE BETTER THAN MUSLIMS:
They do all the terrorism. Ever.

CHRISTIANS [sic] ARE BETTER THAN JEWS:
It’s an evil conspiracy to work hard and be successful. Because they love money. Unlike rich people (see above).

HETEROSEXUALS ARE BETTER THAN GAYS, TRANS PEOPLE, ASEXUALS, AND ANYONE ELSE WHO CHALLENGES THE GENDER BINARY OR DOESN’T USE THEIR GENITALS IN THE APPROVED MANNER:
It’s unnatural! It doesn’t happen in nature! Except when it happens in nature. Which is proof they’re no better than animals.

SMART PEOPLE ARE BETTER THAN STUPID PEOPLE:

AAAAAUGH! ELITMISM! PREJUMADICE! FANCY-PENCE IVORY TOWER EDUCATED SCIENCE EVOLUTION-BELIEVING EAST-COAST ELITES! YOU’RE THE REAL NAZIS!

Do you believe that monosexual privilege does not exist?

Monosexual privilege is bullshit. To those who may not know, “monosexual” refers to people who are only attracted to one sex (/gender, if that makes more sense to anyone). There is no privilege to be gained from being attracted to only one sex when it’s yours. The concept of monosexuality is inherently homophobic because we cannot be privileged for the same reason we are oppressed. It’s also important to remember that lesbophobia stems from hatred of women who are NOT attracted to men and who therefore violate the feminine, submissive, male-serving feminine gender role, in addition to basic homophobia. There is no “monosexual privilege” in that.

I’ve yet to see an example of “monosexual privilege” that would actually benefit gay men or lesbians. When someone who’s gay is mean to you or doesn’t want to sleep with you or whatever, they do not gain any benefits from it, and it doesn’t mean they have institutional power to oppress you: it’s not a manifestation of any privilege. Gay men and lesbians are not capable of oppressing bi/pan/whateversexual people on the axis of sexuality – straight people are our oppressors, and heterosexual privilege exists, that’s it.

Often, examples of so-called monosexual privilege don’t actually apply to “monosexuals”, especially lesbians who are especially vulnerable because of the combination of misogyny and homophobia. For example, straight men generally think that lesbians as well as bi and straight women exist to fulfill their porn fantasies. They rarely differentiate between them because they believe lesbians just need to find the right man to discover their true (hetero)sexuality, are confused, need to experiment, or are going through a phase. As for the pressure to “choose”, no one really wants you to choose homosexuality. It’s homophobia 101, pure and simple. Gay people are told to choose as well, and to “choose heterosexuality” or “choose not to be gay”, to be specific.

Another example that often comes up is having your sexual orientation erased when you’re in a relationship. Sure, it can feel hurtful to have your identity belittled, but being in a heterosexual relationship actually grants you access to actual, concrete social advantages and legal rights that gay people aren’t allowed even conditionally. Boohoo, how terrible. Besides, lesbians and gay men are not safe from having their true sexuality ignored or relationships misinterpreted: consider all the times people have called a couple “gal pals”, consider all the people whose parents kept referring to their spouses as their “friends” for decades, consider all the people who weren’t allowed to visit their life partners in hospital because their relationships weren’t recognised by law – how’s that for erasure?

Insisting that you’re NOT GAY, NOT LESBIAN despite being in a same-sex relationship, on the other hand, often reeks of homophobia, not inherently, but because attempts to distance yourself from ~monosexuals~ easily begin to resemble homophobic rhetoric and rely on homophobic stereotypes. (Remember that post where someone mocked “monosexuals” for being interested in only one sex and urged them to experiment and try different types of relationships, as if that wasn’t exactly what homophobic society tells gay people to do anyway?)

”Monosexual” is a cruel way of lumping gay people in with our oppressors. It is inconsiderate and downright homophobic to imply that we’re just like the people who bully, threaten, beat, harass, correctively rape, kill, disown and fire us and deny us legal rights. Lately, I’ve also seen it used to refer to gay men and lesbians specifically, excluding straight people from the definition, e.g. when talking about LGBTQ community matters and using “monosexual”, which is just a lousy attempt at covering some pretty awful homophobia that would be much more obvious if you said gays or lesbians instead.
