The beginner witch's starter spell kit

So I know most of you just starting off feel pressured to go and get a load of equipment to use in spells, and while I still believe it’s not strictly necessary to have spell ingredients and tools and words and intent alone are enough to suffice, I can understand wanting stuff to make you feel more witchy and to help you visualise stuff better etc.

So here are the bare basic things I recommend 😊

🍃🍃🍃🍃🍃🍃🍃🍃🍃🍃🍃🍃🍃🍃

✨ a quartz crystal

Why?

- Because they are self cleansing - you never need to spiritually cleanse them

- because they are neutral - you can charge them with any intent you want and they will be able to carry them

- they can be used to cleanse - use it to cleanse yourself, use it to cleanse any other items you have

- they help transmit energy - perfect for helping you send energy to something or someone else

- they receive energy - perfect for channeling energy

- they amplify energy - use them to increase the power of anything else you are using in your magic

- cheap af

- completely innocuous - no one’s gonna look at it and think you must be a witch

Where?

Like literally fucking anywhere - go into a gift shop and you can probably find a Quartz crystal even if it’s on the end of a keyring or if it’s part of a gemstone chip bracelet, sometimes in the gift section of bookshops, in the birth stone section of a card shop, in most seaside gift shops, in museum gift shops, as a free gift on the front of a mind, body, spirit magazine….

🍃🍃🍃🍃🍃🍃🍃🍃🍃🍃🍃🍃🍃🍃

✨ a feather

Why?

- it’s free af

- depending on the bird it can represent different things - Google bird meanings and omens etc

- represents the element of air

- use in cleansing spells by wafting around (yup. Simple as that - think feather dusters - cleansing!)

- comes from birds - birds fly- use in astral travel spells. Birds nest - use in home spells. Birds are free to roam where they want - use in freedom / release spells… Pretty damn versatile if you ask me!

- bonus - pretty, soft, fluffy

Where?

Literally walk out your front door, there’s probably one waiting for you right there. If not, try the back door.

🍃🍃🍃🍃🍃🍃🍃🍃🍃🍃🍃🍃🍃🍃

✨ a stone

Why?

- again, free af

- represents earth element

- comes from ground and therefore can help you in grounding spells

- the phrase ‘solid as a rock?’ - use in spells that help you stabilise and settle down in life

- what can stones be used for? Building bridges, paths and buildings - use in spells that help you cross metaphorical bridges, that help you find your path, to help you lay foundations etc

Where?

Again, literally anywhere

🍃🍃🍃🍃🍃🍃🍃🍃🍃🍃🍃🍃🍃🍃

✨ water (including some sort of bowl, jar, bottle, whatever… To hold said water)

Why?

- free

- represents water element

- use in cleansing spells

- water represents emotions - use in any spell that deals with emotions

- still water is calming, use in calming spells

- bonus - research different types of water and how to use in witchcraft because sea water, rain water etc can all be used for different things but as a standard simply use tap water

Where

- sea
- collect rain
- river
- the tap????

🍃🍃🍃🍃🍃🍃🍃🍃🍃🍃🍃🍃🍃🍃

✨ a battery operated tea light candle

Why?

- discreet and small - easy to hide away if necessary

- no need for lighter or matches

- safe af

- lasts longer than a real candle

- represents fire

- usually really cheap for a multipack

- most come with realistic flicker effect

- can get in different colours so can be used as an alternative to spell candles

- bonus - if you’re willing to spend a little more you can now get them in the style of church candles or taper candles and some of them have a sensor on them which lets you ‘blow them out’

- can be used for enlightening spells, passion, energising or any kind of candle spell

- nice to look at when meditating

- looks great in a candle holder

- safe to use as markers for you circle if you want to work within one and won’t matter if you’re clumsy af like me and knock it over

Where?

DIY stores, home stores, gift shops, clothes shops with home sections… Practically EVERYWHERE at Christmas… Most likely a pound / thrift store?

🍃🍃🍃🍃🍃🍃🍃🍃🍃🍃🍃🍃🍃🍃

🌸 Can I just point out you now have an item to represent all of the elements? How fricking awesome is that?? You can use any kind of elemental spell now! Yay!🌸

🍃🍃🍃🍃🍃🍃🍃🍃🍃🍃🍃🍃🍃🍃

✨ salt

Why?

- use in protection spells

- use to cleanse

- cheap

- use in your bath to soothe sore, aching muscles, or to soften dry skin or hard nails

Where?

- any food shop

- most likely your kitchen

🍃🍃🍃🍃🍃🍃🍃🍃🍃🍃🍃🍃🍃🍃

✨ black pepper (corns or ground)

Why?

- great for binding spells

- use to absorb negativity

- cheap af

Where?

Again, food store or probably already in your kitchen

🍃🍃🍃🍃🍃🍃🍃🍃🍃🍃🍃🍃🍃🍃

✨ a notebook

Why?

- to jot down spells, your research, correspondences etc

Where?

Pretty much anywhere. You don’t need to spend a lot of money on it. Chances are after practicing for a little while you’ll settle down more into your own personal craft and realise a lot of the stuff you wrote down won’t be relevant to you and your beliefs any more and then by that point you will have been able to save up for a nice new fancy one and you can copy over the stuff you want to keep 😊

Take it from me, there is literally no point in spending loads of money on your first spell book, you will definitely out grow it.

🍃🍃🍃🍃🍃🍃🍃🍃🍃🍃🍃🍃🍃🍃

✨ either a cheap multi-pack of different coloured cotton reels or ribbon

- use for string / ribbon magic (a very easy form of magic for beginners)

- use in binding spells

Where?

You could go to a craft shop but honestly, just go to your local pound / thrift shop or market to pick one up for £1. Craft shops will no doubt charge you more than you have to pay

🍃🍃🍃🍃🍃🍃🍃🍃🍃🍃🍃🍃🍃🍃

✨ some form of tiny draw string cloth pouch or the fabric to make one

Why?

- use for making charm bags with

Where?

if you’re lucky you might be given one when you buy your Quartz crystal - people usually put crystals in little drawstring pouches, a lot of jewellery from eBay come in them too

🍃🍃🍃🍃🍃🍃🍃🍃🍃🍃🍃🍃🍃🍃

So there you have it!

At the very most all you’ll be buying is a notebook, salt and pepper if you don’t already have it, a Quartz crystal, some cotton, a battery tea light and a tiny bag.

You should easy be able to get that for under £10 especially if you buy everything you can from a pound store!

If you want to start practicing divination, you could always get a pack of playing cards from there too and learn how to divine using them - that knowledge is only a Google search away!

How easy (and cheap) was that?

You’ll probably find that as you go on, the longer you practice you’ll probably add to your collection over time and then you’ll start making the occasional bigger purchase as a treat, you might want to buy some tarot cards for example…

But this should be more than enough to start you off! 😊

And you can keep them all hidden in a little box under your bed and no one needs to know anything about it if you don’t want them too 💕

The Archive Project - Complete

Editor’s Note:   Six months ago I set out to make this blog both a news blog and a fandom resource by putting all the old press, pictures, and videos into an easily searchable and navigable form.  The last marketing image posted signifies the end of the bulk of that project.  I’m sure I’ve missed some old article or picture and if I have please feel free to send me a source link so I can add it but for now the posting of old material is largely done.

So how do I use this?

Well first of all you can navigate by the search box on the blog and the blogs tags.  I’ve tried to tag everything as consistently and intuitively as possible.  I wouldn’t recommend trying to navigate by the character name tags for the main cast… “emma swan” for example would give you almost 200 pages of results.  But say “the blue fairy” or “princess abigail” are much more manageable.

For this reason there are sub tags.  You can find the interviews of a particular actor by searching their name + interview (for example “robert carlyle interview”) and it will give you both video and text interviews.  Similarly name + convention panel (i.e. “lana parrilla convention panel”) will give you just videos of the actor at conventions.  The writers are not split up so you can find A&E plus Jane all under “writer interview”.

Social media posts are just broken down by cast, writer, and crew, so “cast instagram” will give you actor instagram posts while “writer twitter” will give you a member of the writing staff (mostly Adam Horowitz or Jane Espenson, and Brigitte Hales).  You can also find all the social media for a given actor, crew, or writer by searching by their name + social media (i.e. “rebecca mader social media”) which would include all their twitter, instagram, facebook, snapchat and tumblr posts.

Pictures, both in and out of character are tagged by name + picture (i.e. “ginnifer goodwin picture”).  Please note that red carpet events only go as far back as the beginning of Once Upon a Time so you wont find pre-once material.  For reasons of consistency set spotter pictures are NOT included in the actor picture tags in case someone wishes not to see those spoilers.

Other potentially useful tags:  the casts dogs are tagged (i.e. ”lola”, “bella”, “ava”, “buckley”), as are the cars by character name plus the type of car (”emma volkswagen beetle” “regina mercedes benz”, “gold cadillac”) and if you are looking for images of Storybrooke’s signs and shops search by “storybrooke signage” for those of you interested in fan fic reference.  Hook’s ship can be found under two tags “the jolly roger” for the fictional vessel and “the lady washington” for the real vessel that plays her.  Both “the dark swan” and season 6′s split “the evil queen” have their own tags just for those breakout personas of Emma Swan and Regina Mills.

Filming notices for shooting are under “filming notice” and all set reports and the pictures from them are tagged “set report”.  The regular journalists that cover the show are tagged by their name (i.e. “natalie abrams”, “leanne aguilera”)

And of course you can search by episode name (i.e. “3.11 going home”).  Once Upon a Time in Wonderland episodes are tagged with a w in front of the title (i.e. “w1.03 forget me not”) and all material from that series is tagged “ouatiw”.

Is there another way to search this material?

Yes, I’m glad you asked.  There are also a list of what those in the historical archive world call “finding aids” that is posts that list everything for a given episode or convention or season.  Because tumblr will only let you put so many links in a given post they’ve had to be broken up in parts.  You can find them all below.  Season 6 is listed with most recent material first.  The most recent season finding aids are linked in the side bar while all of them are linked at the bottom of each finding aid.

Season 1: General Index Post - 1A Episode Index Post - 1B Episode Index Post
Season 2: General Index Post - 2A Episode Index Post - 2B Episode Index Post
Season 3: General Index Post - 3A Episode Index Post - 3B Episode Index Post
Season 4: General Index Post - 4A Part 1 - 4A Part 2 - 4B Part 1 - 4B Part 2
Season 5: General Index Post - 5A Part 1 - 5A Part 2 - 5B Part 1 - 5B Part 2 - Conventions
Season 6: General Index Post - 6A Part 1 - 6A Part 2 - 6A Part 3 - 6B Part 16B Part 2 - Conventions
Once Upon a Time in Wonderland

But what if I just want to know what spoilers are happening?

Why you can look at our spoiler summary page!  It is also listed with most recent material first.  Because it’s a summary of many many different and often conflicting sources it is the only page on this site you’ll find with no source links.

Dogblr Map

An idea that tanpoint came up with to unite dogblr a little more!

HERE’S the map.

How it works:  With this map it’ll be easier to meet new friends nearby and schedule meetups, doggy playdates, and go to shows!  You can edit the map to add your approximate location. For privacy reasons, this is limited to city. Example: San Diego, Phoenix, etc.

1) Click on the “add marker” icon below the search bar.

2) Click on your city/town. In the title, write your username, and in the comment box write your city, state. Example:

3) That’s it!

Hi, I just wanted to say thank you for your hardwork. All of them are wonderful, and i'm very grateful for your dedication for translating (like not only translating, but you put some clarification for japanese word in the novel, you are awesome!) And I have a suggestion, well if you don't mind how about creating masterpost for your translation? So your translation will be easier to navigate (like myself, sometimes i confused which one should i read first). Only if you wanted to, of course.

You bring up a good point. I was going to wait until I was done with the novel before making an index of everything. The reason why is I don’t want to consistently edit it (problem with the ‘reblog’ feature, actually). I could at least do links for the previous chapters/parts of chapters as well as the character index in the posts (I forgot to do that for this one, so I’ll add it) for now.

Because of the current layout of my blog, I lost the search box I originally had which really helped look up specific posts. I’m trying to learn how to create my own page so it’d be easier to navigate everything. For now though, I’ll give you a list of current links of the novel I currently have done.

Sunset Novel Works

I haven’t officially started working on this book. At the moment, I’ll probably just do the interviews or any interesting scenes like I have been. I know @e-zaya made an announcement to work on it, and someone has done the prologue and chapter 1 if I recall, so I’m not sure how best to approach it if I do decide to also tackle that. But my main focus is on the Kassai novel right now.

Anyway, here is what I did for this novel.

Izaya ‘Confession’ Scene

The iconic scene where Izaya talks to Sozoro about his injuries and making some confessions about his state.

Cute Scene w/ Izaya & Haruto

This is the scene directly before Kazuhisa asks about Izaya’s legs. Minus one line connecting the two, this is all one piece with the next post below.

Izaya Talks About His Injuries

Izaya talks in length for the first time in the novel about his injuries to Kazuhisa & Nana

Haruto & Himari’s Backstory

Haruto’s explanation of what happened to them and how they got taken in by Izaya.

Shinra On Izaya

Shinra’s interview about Izaya at the end of chapter one.

Shizuo On Izaya

Both interviews with Shizuo from the last two chapters before the epilogue.

I hope this will help for now. Bare with me. ><

anonymous asked:

What would tom & sue do if dylan got a girl pregnant? Did sue ever offer her sons condoms? Would she support dylan if he wanted to abort his baby?

I’m sorry but no more of these pregnancy Qs. Those questions are all basically the same ol’ scenario. You’ll need use the E-C Search to find the answer for that.

I will add that Sue taught her sons all sorts of life skills (as mentioned in her book) including protection against sexual diseases which, we can assume, included that gingerly approached safe sex talk (you can all imagine how awkward that would’ve been). I don’t know if that means she was the sort of mom to freely supply her boys with a box of condoms. I doubt it. I feel as though Sue was raised as part of a generation that she would not be too too liberal in a way of that would give an encouraging message or worse, make them feel pressured to have sex. I think if she had noticed that Dylan was seeing a girl and it had all the signs of getting serious than she might feel obligated to buy the condoms ‘just in case’ and plant them discreetly in his bathroom.

What Nathan never expected, let alone surprised by the gift he was received four days before his birthday was…a pair of boxing gloves. First off, how does she knows he boxes, and second, does she knows it was not his birthday yet?

“Wow…Thanks…How did you know I box?”

anonymous asked:

Hey, still love your themes! XD May I ask how you made these uh, separators? Like the moth with lines attached and the ones on the family page on your new theme. They're kinda awesome and I'd like to try make my own. Thanks for all your codes!

- —reposting the answer to this on anon in case it can help out anyone else…

first - thank you for the kind words :3

second - certainly; here’s a little tutorial for borders…

there’s a growing trend on tumblr to make either signature lines or borders to use both on themes and in posts — this tutorial uses PS5 — but any image editor where you have the capacity to use layers should work too…

…the trick is to make a border which will be visible on any blog background, without sitting in a big chunk of white, or disappearing completely — -
this is how i make mine…

start off with a standard canvas - i usually go for 500px wide by about 100px high, you can always resize if you need to as you go…

then you need your image - most of the time i will look for stock images on deviantart - type your search into the box - then make sure to click on the ‘resources and stock images’ link.

so now i have my stock image, i save it, open it and drag it onto my blank document — a little bit of resizing, and voila…

before i add any other effects i need to make sure that i have only the snake and no white in the background, so — turn off your background layer, and then remove the rest of the background around your image.  there are a couple of ways to do this…

Method 1. - use the quick selection tool -

make sure not to lose any parts of your image, you may need to use a layer mask and zoom to remove the fine details.  i also tend to use the ‘refine edge’ option when i’ve made my selection so the ‘cut’ image doesn’t look pixelated around the edges - just play with the radius and feather options ( on something this small, a radius and feather setting of 0.2 was fine )

then remove any parts you’ve missed - just add a layer mask to your image layer ( click on the little square with a round circle in it to add one ) then make sure you use have the layer mask highlighted and use a small black brush to remove any areas your quick selection missed - sometimes it helps to add a temporary background so you can see more easily ( — layer > new fill layer > solid colour — and make sure it sits below your image so you can see! )

paint over the extra areas to remove any excess background.

however, if your image is detailed, this might be difficult to do - or there might be areas within the images where you can see through to the background, so try…

Method 2. - use colour range

click on select > colour range

then use the ‘eyedropper tool’ to click on the colour you would like to remove from your image ( in this case white ) - play with the ‘fuzziness slider’ until you have the areas you would like to remove selected - remember, the lower the fuzziness, the less colour will be removed - the higher it is, the more will be removed ( including all areas colours from within your image that match ).  you can also click ‘shift’ while making your selections if the background isn’t one solid colour.

then just click ‘delete’ to remove the selection

it really depends on what your image is, as to which method you use…

if you turn off your background and any assistance layers, you should have a nice image on a transparent background…

now it’s time to add in anything else you would like, lines, effects, colours, etc.  i tend to make sure any lines or text are in a medium grey colour, just so it’s more likely to look nice and be visible on black, white, or coloured backgrounds on peoples blogs ( remember, people might be reblogging your post if it’s a signature and if it’s for a theme, then you don’t want to have to change your border colours every time you fancy a change in background! )

once you have your border as you like it with any other edits - make sure that you have all background layers off and the ‘checkerboard’ ( as seen in the below image ) is the background - it’s time to save, and this is the important bit!

make sure to save your image as a PNG file.  if you save as a JPEG or a GIF your editing program will usually substitute transparency with white!

here’s the finished border with a gradient map applied and a little bit of text… in this post on the dash you can see it on a white background - if you look at the post on my blog, it will be against my blog’s black background, but because the background of the border is transparent, it won’t matter!

i hope this was helpful!
love from…

Valentine's Day With Jimin

You left for your Saturday morning jog when Jimin was still sleeping like a log. You wished Jimin would come join  you but he worked out so much and stayed up so late, you knew better than to bother his sleep. It wasn’t like he would gripe at you. Jimin would never do that. You respected him and plus, you see him all day, you could live without him for an hour a day.

Halfway through your routine, you couldn’t help but notice the park was getting a bit emptier. The people you usually greeted weren’t there. ‘Strange,’ you thought to yourself but you continued trotting down the path.

Soon you stopped to take a break where you usually do. Sitting on the park bench, you notice something sparkling at the bottom of the tree close to your bench. You weren’t a nosey person but the glimmer pierced your eyes and soon curiosity swept upon you.

You picked up the glistening object. The blue crystal flickered against the sunrays. A necklace… with your birthstone dangling off it. It was so pretty and looked so new, whoever lost it must be devastated. You debated on whether you should leave it or take and give a notice that you found it.

In your contraversy, something else caught your eyes. A little pink piece of paper, nicely pressed was folded up and sticking out of the disturbed soil. You could tell it was just recently, even maybe purposely placed there. Maybe it was a clue to the owner, what great chance but you picked up anyways.

“congratz on finding this. now look around for a tree with a red marking on it…. and keep everything you picked up.”

You felt a little uneasy. Should you play along? What if it was a trap? You took another look at the sapphire gem and curiosity got the best of you. And plus, the handwriting… it seemed so familiar but you couldn’t remember where you saw it, which gave you another reason for you to find out.

More people started pouring into the park. You probably looked really dumbfounded to them as you were looking for the a tree with a red mark on it.

“Did you lose something _______?” a familiar voice asked. It was Hakyeon, a regular jogger you see almost every morning. “Haha, sort of,” you said as he passes you. “Well good luck,” he waves and leaves.

You decided you were receiving too much attention and looked pretty stupid so you find the closest trashcan instead to throw away the small paper. In the process of doing so, the pink note slipped out of your hand into the winds.

“You’re more trouble than I thought,” you sighed and chased the flying paper, you didn’t want to add more litter to the mess.

Lucky enough, the piece of paper hit a tree and just landed lifelessly on the ground.

“You don’t want me to give up huh?” you asked looking down at the paper. Something suddenly caught your eyes. The tree. There was a red heart with arrow through it.You looked back at the little paper, there was the same heart but black printed on the outside of it.

Your heart started skipping, how could it be so coincidental? Your eyes quickly searched the rear of the timber. And sure enough, you found a little box and a sky blue paper tucked underneath.

Without a second thought, you picked up the box and opened it… but it was empty. Your eyebrows twitched and you took hold of the paper.

“Very good ______. Now find purple marking (;”

Your heart drops when you see your name written in the paper. You had to get to the end of this. You scanned your surroundings and your eyes stopped on a tree at the far side of the park with the same heart but purple colored on it.

You gulped and ran over to the tree without a second thought.

You bent down right beneath the mark but didn’t find anything. “This was a joke after all,” you said. But you didn’t give up just yet and inspected around the tree and undoubtedly, behind the tree, there was a trail of the hearts in yellow. You took no time to see where it lead and just followed it.

The path lead you right into another tree, you were becoming impatient at your resultless effort. Tree had the same yellow heart on it but with an arrow pointing down to the pile of cardboard hearts.

You sighed and quickly got to the bottom of it. But there was nothing. You sighed again but then a black memo card sparkle caught your eyes. You snatch it and read it as get up.

“turn around”

Without questioning but confused you slowly turned around without moving your eyes from the slip.

“Looking for something?” a familiar voice asked, making you jump.

“JIMIN!” you exclaimed. He was holding flowers. You favorite kind, red with white roses. “It was you?!”

He smiles cheekly, “Happy Valentine’s Day baby,” he chirps.

“You couldn’t just tell me when you got home?” you asked.

“You wanted me too? I thought our third valentine should be special,” he answers. “i’m surprised you got this far babe. Did you keep everything?”

Yep it was three years already. The first year when you two just met and had spent time together and the next thing you know, the next year you were enjoying Valentine’s with him.

You nodded, “ But this is empty,” you pout, showing him the box.

“I knew that was going to happen….” he mutters.

“What are you going to do about it?” you asked concernedly after seeing the worried expression on his face.

“Don’t worry about it baby,” he smiles, “Just give me this and pretend you never saw it okay?”

“Okay,” you managed to say, you knew he was trying to mot make you worried so the only thing you could do in return was to not worry and do as he asked.

“I love you baby,” he bear hugs.

“Thank you Jimin, I love you too.”
-
“Cheers,” you and Jimin say in unison as your glasses clinked. You were having candle light dinner at home. Both of you had insisted in it. You and him had been glued stuck to each other all day.

“How do you like your necklace babe?”

“It’s beautiful! I love it! When I picked it up, I knew I couldn’t let it even if it’s the right thing to do,” you laugh. You take hold of the glistening crystal around your neck and smile. It was perfect.

“I have something for you baby,”Jimin says and slips his hand into his suit and pulls something out. He slid the box over to you. It was the same box you had picked up from the park. “Jimin?” you ask but he just gives you a light nod.

You slowly open it and gasped. Inside was the most gorgeous ring you’ve ever seen. With a sapphire stone engraved in it, it dazzled against the candle light.

“Jimin….” you were speechless. You bring your eyes back to him, he was moving your way. The ring is taken away from it’s shelter and soon slid on your finger.

“Jimin! It’s beautiful!” You were crying, your arms wrapped around his head. “Jimin….”

His arms wrap then wrap around you. “I’m glad you like it. You’re the only one I ever need to see this happy,” he whispers.

You pull way, your eyes meet, looking into the depths of each other’s, your lips intertwine.

“I love you ____ _____”

“I love you too Park Jimin.”

How To Make Cute Binder Covers

Find a pattern that you want to use- you can find them on google, tumblr, pinterest, anywhere really. Make sure the photo is vertical so it’ll cover the whole binder cover. (that’s why i searched ‘for iphone’)

Save the image. Then open up Word and insert the image. Maximize the image so it covers the whole paper.

Click 'insert shape’ and add the rectangle. Place it where you want and stretch it out so it creates a space for the label.

Add a text box and just write the name of the subject. You can change the font, size, color, to whatever you want.

Then all you have to do is print and put it in your binder! You can see how mine came out here.

Please don’t randomly add people on Skype.

For some (including me), Skype is akin to a home, or even your room - and adding people on skype is akin to giving them free access to said place.

You don’t just give any random stranger access into your house on the pretense of “to try and be friends”. That’s why I’m on tumblr, and that’s why I visit streams and other stuff. Those activities are ones in which i venture out of my ‘personal space’, and you could approach me there.

But please, if I don’t even know you at all, don’t even try to ask to barge into my home. You are asking me to risk giving a total stranger a key to my place when i have zero idea who you are, with little to no benefit to myself if I do so. It’s rude, it’s kinda unpleasant, and chances are if you do this I would make note of it as a sign not to have anything to do with you.

And even if you do know the person, it’s still a very polite move to ask beforehand. I know, it must take a LOT of skill to put my username into skype’s search box and click search. Congrats. Unless we’re very close and regularly punch each other in the face as an affectionate gesture, don’t add without asking.

Lastly, of course - the home owner still makes the final call. I’m sorry if I reject your request, but it’s still my home and I choose who i want in it myself.

Thank you.

EVERYTHING IS SUSPICIOUS - My interpretation of the first Gaiden chapter and Sakura’s strange reactions. ANALYSIS.

You can notice throughout the whole chapter Sakura’s discomfort by the way Kishimoto uses punctuation marks and wording. Pay attention, because this is not how Sakura normally reacts/speaks. Analyse this like you were the author of the manga. Think about it.

!!!The following theories only apply to the mangapanda translation!!!

• The punctuation marks (here ellipsis) show Sakura’s surprise because she didn’t expect Sarada to ask such a question. She doesn’t know what to say, she staggers, she doesn’t answer this immediately. She feels bad because either a) Sasuke really did leave them for many, many years and she knows poor Sarada is suffering, OR b) she is hiding something, there is something about Sasuke that Sarada mustn’t know and she is trying to find her words.

• Now this is interesting. Notice the first thing Sakura does is stutter, so she doesn’t answer the SAME question immediately.. AGAIN. This is evidenced by the dash (” — ”). Now either a) she genuinely doesn’t quite remember if Sasuke wore glasses or not because he has been away for so long (which I think would be extreme bullshitting on Kishimoto’s part, I mean seriousy? This girl has always been in love with that boy, and she doesn’t remember if he wore glasses or not?!), OR b) she doesn’t want Sarada to know too much about Sasuke, she is hiding something. If she had said “no, he doesn’t wear glasses”, Sarada would have questioned Sakura further, like “why do *I* wear glasses then?” and maybe that’s a subject Sakura doesn’t wanna discuss? OR the fact that she mustn’t know too much about Sasuke, because he is an Uchiha and maybe if after people learn who her dad is, they’re gonna come after her.

• Like I said, the way she answers Sarada’s question gives the impression of an unsure person, she doesn’t know what she should tell Sarada to make her drop the subject, OR she is genuinely unsure if Sasuke wore glasses or not, reaction which is emphasized by the second text box by adding “I guess” followed by the same ellipsis (”…”). Now was it really necessary to add that? It’s pretty clear Kishimoto wants to give the reader/Sarada (same thing this chapter, because we only see Sarada’s POV) a strong sense of  incertitude, ambivalence, confusion and hesitation. Why? I don’t know, you tell me.

• What’s that drop? Hmm? Kishimoto surely loves details, and this is important in my opinion. It explains Sakura’s emotions better. This is NOT sweat. I mean it is, but it’s “manga sweat”, not “physical activity sweat”. And LOOK at her face. The face of regret.. Kishimoto drew this drop on her face after Sarada saw through her bullshit and asked her how could she not be sure about Sasuke wearing glasses. This drop of sweat represents Sakura’s discomfort, either because a) she regrets not remembering if Sasuke wore glasses or not, because he has been away for so long (again this would be NONSENSE on Kishimoto’s part) and her own daughter doubts her so she feels guilty, OR b) Sarada caught her lying and she has to cover for Sasuke and regrets not being able to tell Sarada the truth.

• There you have the ellipsis again, AND an additional “uh” before it. Now what is this “uh” used for? It’s used when searching for the right words, when bad liars realize they said something beforehand which could give them away, when you are confused and don’t know how to answer a question but you are expected to answer (when there is a difficult question to answer and you’re not sure HOW to answer it), when you NEED something to say in order to give you time to think about something else to say, time to think about a “proper” answer to give. Why did Kishimoto feel the need to use it? WHY DID HE FEEL THE NEED TO ADD THE SECOND TEXT BOX ANYWAY? It’s not like it was necessary regarding the information in it, as the readers and Sarada already know that “Sasuke hasn’t been in the village for twelve years”.

• “But….!” … but what?! But nothing, apparently. Sakura, you’re a bad liar. And what’s with that exclamation point? Hey maybe it’s just wishful thinking on my part, but NO ONE can deny that the way Sakura behaves throughout this whole chapter is extremely weird and kind of out of character for her? Anyway, the whole second text box from this panel is “awkward”, I could totally feel the awkwardness even behind my computer screen. Kishimoto did this on purpose. Why? I don’t know, you tell me.

• This panel is not that important, but you can see that she is offended by Sarada’s statement that her relationship with Sasuke is weird, weird being an “understatement”. If Sakura had felt the same way, she wouldn’t have reacted like this. Sakura looks here like a woman who is sure about her relationship with the father of her child and she is offended that said child is doubting her own mother. So it’s safe to assume that Sakura and Sasuke have an understanding, this “important” mission of his must be really important in the sense that Sarada must NOT know what this is all about. So again, Sakura might be hiding something. This is CLEARLY not an abandoned wife, nor neglected. And also, don’t forget the SAME drop of “sweat” on her left cheek.

  • Now this is a very interesting paneI. I think it’s also the most important one. Notice her stance, the position of her arms, especially her left arm! (edit: okay someone told me that the word is a sound effect for falling dirt - so I don’t think that this arm thing counts anymore). And there’s also a “sweat” drop on her face, as well as one on her hair (though it might be exhaustion this time, because she did destroy the ground beforehand). So yeah, I personally think the details Kishimoto drew here are interesting. The drops of “sweat” show throughout this WHOLE chapter, not only here, Sakura’s discomfort regarding the subject Sarada brought up, meaning Sasuke’s “trip” and everything involving Sasuke. WHY? We don’t know. Yet. Likewise, her words show that she is uncomfortable talking about Sasuke’s “important mission/job/whatever” with Sarada. NOT telling Sarada what her own father’s mission is about is VERY SUSPICIOUS on its own; but also (the position of her arms) combined with that unnecessary “uh” followed by that same ellipsis (”…”) create a whole other level of SUSPICIOUS in the sense that Sakura is DEFINITELY hiding something from Sarada SPECIFICALLY. This is why I also think that this “mission” of Sasuke’s has to do with none other than Sarada. Come on, Sasuke IS a family guy, the Uchiha clan treasures LOVE above all else; he wouldn’t leave his family just like that. If he left them with no good reason, Kishi would shit all over his 15-year work. I trust he wouldn’t do that now, would he..

• Her face clearly describes sadness and concern because Sarada is crying, but the ellipsis shows her loss of words, and the calculating way she is trying to choose the right sentence to soothe her child. Once again, you can see how sure she is about everything regarding Sasuke. She says it herself. TWICE. The mangastream translation is similar, Sakura uses “definitely” there, which is also a form of absolute certainty. Therefore, it is safe to say that Sakura knows the situation really well, she knows that is was imperative for Sasuke to leave, she is sure about his affection for her and Sarada, but she is also sure that Sarada must be kept in the dark about something, and that’s why her reactions are off when Sarada is questioning her.

• Yes, Sarada-chan, that’s a very good question. But Sakura knows why she is so sure, it’s maybe because she knows something you and us do not. For now.

• Oh really? Sakura is not the one to faint so easily. Actually, the only “recent” time I remember her fainting was after using an ENORMOUS amount of chakra to save her loverboy from another PLANET. So either a) she’s using a lot of chakra, we don’t know why (maybe to heal Sarada’s eyes?), OR b) she is sick (but I don’t want to accept this one, she is a medical ninja for God’s sake and a STRONG person), OR c) it’s stress-related because she has to work so much as a single mother. Or she is pregnant.

• WHY did the author feel the need to write that line? Think about it. He doesn’t write anything that doesn’t serve a purpose. He wants to create mystery, he wants us to ask ourselves why the healthy-until-now Sakura is fainting so much. Why does he want us to do that? Well, 1) because mystery makes readers buy his manga (lol), AND 2) because this line will be relevant in the future chapters. Probably something concerning Sasuke or Sarada’s situation as well. Probably Sarada’s. I refuse to believe Kishimoto made Sakura faint just for kicks (or maybe he really wanted to emphasize how stressful it is to be a single mom…).

By “Sarada’s situation” I mean that maybe Sakura heals Sarada’s eyes very often (because otherwise she would go blind) and this would explain her fainting (chakra exhaustion). Maybe Sarada’s eyes/mental health is also why Sasuke NEEDED to leave. OR NOT, PROBABLY SASUKE HAD TO LEAVE IN ORDER TO PROTECT HIS FAMILY OR SOMETHING ALONG THOSE LINES. BUT PROTECTING THEM FOR 12 YEARS? BRUH. MAYBE SARADA FORGOT SASUKE OR SOMETHING.

—————————————————————————————————-

Conclusions: Either something fishy is going on here, like Sakura and Sasuke trying to hide something “important” from Sarada, or Kishimoto fucked up big time regarding a lot of things (mangastream translation gives that impression more than the mangapanda one). I guess we’ll just have to wait and see.

This is MY personal view, interpretation, my thoughts and feelings about this chapter, so, naturally, I could be very wrong and extremely far from the truth.. This analysis here is not up for debate and I’m NOT trying to get anyone’s hopes up, so if I DO get your hopes up and all of this won’t happen, don’t blame me lol. Take it as some fun reading while waiting for other chapters.

A Very Revealing Conversation With Rihanna

The author and filmmaker Miranda July asks the pop superstar what turns her on, how she handles the pressure of public scrutiny and why she’s been Googling childbirth. (Then they become best friends.)

I DRESSED VERY CAREFULLY for her, the way I would for a good friend, thinking hard about what she likes. What I think she likes. I ordered Uber Black — the highest level of Uber I’ve ridden. The driver said it would be about an hour and a half to Malibu, a long time to resist telling him where I was going.

‘‘I’m going to meet Rihanna,’’ I finally yelled over the radio.

He turned the radio down.

‘‘Rihanna. I’m going to meet her, to interview her. That’s where we’re going.’’

‘‘You kidding? That’s my girl,’’ he said. ‘‘I love her. She’s so down-to-earth. She always keep it cool with her friend and her family. Her and Melissa, I think they are the best celebrity friends. I always say that.’’

‘‘Melissa Forde,’’ I said, to show that I knew who he meant.

‘‘I took a picture with her! Look!’’ He handed back his phone and I took it skeptically. But there he was, in a tux, with his arm around Rihanna. She was smiling. ‘‘She hear my accent and ask me where I’m from. She’s so nice. I knew she would be.’’

‘‘Where are you from?’’

‘‘West Africa, Niger. I come to play soccer for University of Idaho. Oh, that’s the other thing I love about Rihanna — she love soccer.’’

Over the next two hours I interviewed Oumarou Idrissa about how he survived during his first five years in Los Angeles after his student visa had fallen through. He slept in laundromats, sending tiny sums of money back to Niger where his 25 brothers and sisters were starving. This took us through the beach traffic; we grew quiet as the SUV zipped along beach cliffs above blue water. I think we both suddenly remembered Rihanna.

Do you want me to ask her anything for you?’’ I said.

Oumarou thought seriously about this for a long time. ‘‘Yeah. Here’s my question: When she going to West Africa? Many celebrity don’t like going there because we’re so poor. But I know she have a good heart and I think Rihanna would be the one to open the door to all of them. Also if she needs a driver, or security. Or French teacher.’’

‘‘Or soccer teacher,’’ I said, as we pulled up to Geoffrey’s, a fancy Malibu restaurant. I warned Oumarou that I might be a long time, but he wanted to pick me up when I was done with the interview. He wanted to hear her answer to his question.

‘‘Don’t be nervous,’’ Oumarou called out as I hopped out of the car. ‘‘She’s really nice.’’

I SPENT THE NEXT HOUR and a half with Jennifer Rosales, Rihanna’s ‘‘24/7’’ assistant. We ordered drinks and discussed Jennifer’s reproductive future. Each time I realized I was getting drunk I nibbled some bread, and when I felt my head becoming too clear I drank more. It was hard work maintaining a light buzz for so long, but it paid off. When Rihanna’s manager, Jay Brown, appeared to tell me that this was one of her first interviews in years I just laughed. And then choked. Because here she was.

Her lips were bright red, her long nails were pale iridescent lavender, her mascara was both white and black in a way I didn’t really understand. A rhinestone necklace against her chest read ‘‘FENTY,’’ her last name. Oumarou wasn’t the only person I had grilled about what makes Rihanna great. A lesbian art history professor told me that she’s ‘‘the real deal.’’ Others used the words ‘‘magic’’ and ‘‘epic.’’ But when I tried to get anyone to pinpoint things she had said or done — particular interviews or incidents — everyone became lost in inarticulacy. Yet another friend, referencing an episode of ‘‘Style Wars’’ that Rihanna had appeared on, concluded, ‘‘You could just tell she’s a good person.’’ None of this was all that helpful.

Rihanna hugged me hello and we sat down in front of two glasses of white wine. ‘‘Your eyes are amazing,’’ she told me, pulling her chair closer. ‘‘I’m staring at you and I feel like my eyes are gonna blur because all I can see are those tiny dots.’’

‘‘Well, it’s mutual,’’ I said stiffly. ‘‘Trust me.’’ It was probably the weakest compliment she’d ever received but praising her seemed like a slippery slope. I glanced down at my carefully typed-up questions, looking for an easy opener.

‘‘Do you search the Internet?’’ I asked, ‘‘And if so, what do you look up?’’

‘‘Oh, random things. Like I will be sitting around Googling childbirth.’’

‘‘Could be more random than childbirth.’’

‘‘Childbirth is putting it the not-gross way. I was searching the size of certain things, and how much they expand, and then what happens after. …’’

‘‘It’s gonna be fine,’’ I said from experience. Also, I wanted to add, ‘‘You have a special body. Nothing you can Google applies to you.’’ I asked her what kind of apps she had on her phone and she mentioned something called Squaready.

‘‘It helps you put an image with any dimensions in the square box on Instagram.’’

‘‘So you do your Instagram yourself?’’

‘‘Yeah, yeah. That’s the only way it’ll actually work. My fans can sniff the BS from very far away. I cannot trick them.’’

On her Instagram Rihanna is often wearing bikini-type outfits — once while cuddling a baby monkey — and she looks great. Never lewd, just alive. I suggested that a body as perfect as hers can never really be naked or vulnerable. She tried to describe what makes a great photo: ‘‘There’s no rule about whether you have to be clothed or not. I want to see a naked woman who isn’t even aware of her nakedness.’’

‘‘Right,’’ I said. ‘‘Just the pure joy of the body.’’

‘‘Yeah. And men are gonna do what they do — and I am gonna do what I do.’’

Suddenly Rihanna threw her hand into the air, making a peace sign. I whipped my head around and saw an older white man trying to sneak a photo of her by taking a selfie — a selfie that was in fact an otherie. She was smiling but I felt annoyed on her behalf and held up my middle finger. That’ll show ’em. ‘‘I’m so sorry,’’ the man said. His whole table of people eating shrimp cocktail looked mortified. ‘‘I’ve never done anything like that.’’

‘‘It’s O.K.’’, she reassured him. ‘‘You’re lucky I wasn’t eating, ’cause that would have been an ugly picture.’’

Made self-aware, we straightened ourselves. I smoothed my blouse.

‘‘Can I ask you what this is?’’ she said, gesturing to my outfit.

‘‘Yves Saint Laurent, vintage.’’

‘‘Your taste — I mean, I can’t even talk to you.’’

‘‘Thank you,’’ I said. ‘‘I dressed for you.’’ Witnessing Rihanna’s profound enjoyment of fashion is one of the great vicarious pleasures of this era. We all detonated the Met Ball in that giant yellow cape. We were all the first black face of Dior. We were all punk enough to wear the silk-screened jeans of SonyA Sombreuil. Being Rihanna just feels good, at least from the outside.

‘‘Can you describe what it’s like in your head?’’

‘‘You’re a ‘next-moment’ person,’’ she surmised. ‘‘Not an ‘in-the-moment’ person.’’

‘‘Yeah,’’ I admitted, knowing that this is the wrong kind of person to be.

‘‘I’m the same way. Only now are things hitting me, like I’m feeling them emotionally. I used to feel unsafe right in the moment of an accomplishment — I felt the ground fall from under my feet because this could be the end. And even now, while everyone is celebrating, I’m on to the next thing. I don’t want to get lost in this big cushion of success.’’

And this is how you go from being a child with a good voice to selling 54 million albums in just 10 years. Don’t believe the pictures — in between each poolside party photo is an untaken one in which she’s simply working. Almost every night, when you’re asleep, Rihanna is in the studio. She was headed there after our meeting and Jennifer said she’d be there until morning. At that very moment the sound engineer was waiting for her, just as I had been waiting earlier. Rihanna doesn’t have time for extracurriculars right now, and this includes dating.

‘‘Guys need attention,’’ she explained. ‘‘They need that nourishment, that little stroke of the ego that gets them by every now and then. I’ll give it to my family, I’ll give it to my work — but I will not give it to a man right now.’’

I said that it took me a long time to find a guy who wasn’t threatened by my power, and Rihanna quietly replied, ‘‘I’m still in that time.’’

Looking at her, I was reminded that thousands of people search ‘‘Rihanna’s eyes’’ every year. And there they were: a pair of dizzying hazel-green starbursts. I took another gulp of wine. ‘‘What turns you on?’’

She thought about it seriously, running her fingers through her golden lion’s mane. ‘‘I’m turned on by guys who are cultured. That’ll keep me intrigued. They don’t have to have a single degree, but they should speak other languages or know things about other parts of the world or history or certain artists or musicians. I like to be taught. I like to sit on that side of the table,’’ she said, motioning for me to move my chair next to hers and out of the sun, and I did. Now that we were side by side, I felt I could clarify something. ‘‘Hey, you’re not about to get pregnant are you? The Internet will explode when I say you were Googling childbirth.’’ She laughed and assured me she wasn’t having a child anytime soon; her fear was generalized. We wondered if there was a name for this fear, and Rihanna looked it up for us on her phone.

‘‘ ‘Phobia of a big vagina.’ … ‘Deep.’ … This is awful. I can’t believe I’m typing this in.’’

‘‘Wait,’’ I said. ‘‘Deep’s not an issue. It’s wide.’’

‘‘Deep is an issue, hello!’’

‘‘Huh. Cause I feel like the — I always feel short-vaginaed.’’

Rihanna laughed. ‘‘Trust me, if they can’t feel the end, it’s like, Cannonball!’’

Cannonball meant sailing into space — into something never-ending, like the cosmos. Men like to know that there is an end to the woman they’re with, that she’s finite. It’s an impossible line to walk. You want to be global, but down to earth. In the moment but also one step ahead of it.

I asked her when she first learned about sex.

‘‘Well, there’s always this human instinct about that, even from a very, very young age.’’ I agreed that we are born with a sort of innate sexuality. ‘‘But by like age 11, girls were talking about what they had and hadn’t done. I hadn’t even kissed a boy yet, so it always made me feel insecure, like I was never gonna be good or ready or know what to do — I didn’t even have boobs.’’

Just five years later, after she got boobs, Rihanna left Barbados for New York to record a demo. She shifted in her chair a little when I brought it up. ‘‘That’s something I don’t think I could ever do,’’ she said. ‘‘Send my only girl to another random country to live with people she’d just met. It had to be God that paralyzed Monica Fenty’s emotions so that she’d say, ‘Yes, go.’ To this day, I don’t know how that happened. But thank God it did.’’

It seemed like some part of Rihanna still couldn’t believe she’d gotten away with it. I thought about being 27; at that age my mom was still hoping I might go back to college and get a real job.

‘‘What impresses your mom?’’

‘‘She’s always impressed when she sees me being a little sassy or sharp, when she sees me defending myself. It makes her feel safe, like she doesn’t have to worry about me.’’

I wanted to ask her about being a young black woman with power in America but it seemed somehow wrong to speak of this; maybe she was postracial now. So I directed my question to a younger Rihanna, and asked if she had suddenly felt aware of race in a different way when she moved to New York.

She hesitated, and when I nervously began to apologize, she interrupted.

‘‘You know, when I started to experience the difference — or even have my race be highlighted — it was mostly when I would do business deals.’’ Business deals. Meaning that everyone’s cool with a young black woman singing, dancing, partying and looking hot, but that when it comes time to negotiate, to broker a deal, she is suddenly made aware of her blackness. ‘‘And, you know, that never ends, by the way. It’s still a thing. And it’s the thing that makes me want to prove people wrong. It almost excites me; I know what they’re expecting and I can’t wait to show them that I’m here to exceed those expectations.’’ She sounded like a young black professional trying to make it in the corporate world, and I guessed she was — just on a very different scale.

‘‘But I have to bear in mind,’’ she continued, looking right at the voice recorder, ‘‘that those people are judging you because you’re packaged a certain way — they’ve been programmed to think a black man in a hoodie means grab your purse a little tighter. For me, it comes down to smaller issues, scenarios in which people can assume something of me without knowing me, just by my packaging.’’

While none of us are only our skin or clothes, we do increasingly expect megastars to deploy their whole being through packaging — a tidy and consistent message. If Rihanna has a ‘‘thing’’ it’s that she changes her thing so often. While a performer positioning themselves in relation to the art world might try to make this into a more overt performance, something that would reassure the intelligentsia, Rihanna isn’t meta like that. She hasn’t created a persona around herself like Beyoncé, Lady Gaga, Madonna or so many other stars at her level. She doesn’t have to manufacture dimensionality, because she actually is soulful, and this comes across in every little thing she does.

Souls are funny things. They stay constant even when the outside changes, or when the heart makes mistakes. Souls don’t really care about good or bad, right or wrong — they’re just true. Everlasting. It makes you sound dumb to talk about this stuff, which is why no one could tell me exactly what it was about Rihanna. But millions of fans don’t seem to need it explained to them. A soul just knows a soul. I never told you she was pretty because that’s not what I experienced. My understanding, from the moment she sat down, was that we were in love. We were the most in love any two people had ever been. The sun was finally setting. We’d been talking for almost two hours. I just had one more question.

OUMAROU DIDN’T ASK. He didn’t have to. I was dying to tell him how incredible Rihanna was. ‘‘I knew it,’’ he whispered, merging on to the freeway. ‘‘I showed her the picture of you two together,’’ I said. ‘‘She couldn’t believe the coincidence. And she said you were very well-dressed.’’

‘‘No!’’

‘‘Yes. And she answered your question.’’

With a shaky finger I rewound the voice recorder a little bit. Somehow this was the most exciting part of the whole day. ‘‘O.K., here it is.’’ Oumarou nodded solemnly and I pressed play: ‘‘You know what? If I ever go to West Africa, it would probably be for a free concert.’’ Rihanna’s slight Barbadian accent was familiar to me now. ‘‘I would want to do something for the people there. Maybe we can make a whole event, the way Bob Marley would have done it. Just for the people. And if they climb over the gate, let them climb over the gate.’’

Night fell as we drove across Los Angeles. It took hours to get to Rihanna, but I was home in half that time — too soon. Oumarou and I agreed to keep in touch and waved goodbye. Before stepping inside my house, I lifted my blouse to my face; her perfume was still there. The problem with this kind of romance is that it all falls apart in the retelling. My husband and 3-year-old son tried but couldn’t really understand how overwhelming and profound my connection with Rihanna was. And I’ll admit that as the days go by, even I am beginning to doubt whether our time together meant quite as much to her as it did to me. It doesn’t matter. My heart still jumps every time I see her face.

With the new season and its mysterious Alpha Pack menace approaching, fic jumped between carefully plotted predictions of the villains’ intent and escapes into an abundance of AUs. Derek picked up jobs as diverse as fireman, baker, ballet dancer, and construction worker mistaken for a hooker. Mpreg and other magical baby acquisitions also made a substantial appearance, with extra doses of angst as Derek and Stiles sorted through tumultuous relationship arcs.

Attention, New Xkit Users!

If you use firefox, version 43.0 will default disable new xkit and will not give you an option to enable it. There is nothing you can do in the extension screen to fix this. This is a result of the extension being unsigned i.e. not verified by mozilla themselves. Until the new xkit team release an updated version of the extension hosted by mozilla in their add-ons page, the extension won’t work how it normally does (minimal effort after downloading it).

However!

If you follow these steps, you can re-enable the extension until the new xkit team find a new solution to the issue. This is a bit risky though so heed the warning.

In the address bar, type in “about:config” and a page will come up about the risks associated with messing with this stuff. Just click the “I’ll be careful” button to continue.

Next, type “xpinstall.signatures.required” in the search box in order to find the correct piece of code to mess with. Right click and click on the toggle option. This will change the preference to “false” and allow new xkit as well as any other unsigned extensions to continue working as normal.

I recommend taking a minute and alerting the new xkit team to the issue as well.

Alright, let me explain.

1. Go to this site.

2. If you use Google Chrome the blue box right under it should say “To use this style, install Stylish”. Click the underlined “install Stylish”, so it adds itself to your browser extensions. Approve.

3. Once it’s done, refresh the page and the Stylish S should appear in the corner of the search bar. Now the former blue box is green and says “+Install with Stylish”. Click it and another pop up window should appear. Click okay and it’s installed!

4. Refresh Tumblr and it’s done! You’re saved and go ahead with replies and cutting posts as we’re used to it.
