how many conversations do you start this way

I am sick and tired of these stupid videos going viral on facebook about how technology has made us antisocial and that social media is evil.

Let me tell you a story. I’m half English, but live in Spain. I get to see my English family, at best, once a year. Sometimes not even that.

I love my English grandparents, but we don’t have many things in common. We can get a nice 20 minute talk going about what we’ve been doing lately, and then I usually fall silent whilst my mum talks about cooking with my grandma and my dad goes on to talk about science with my granddad. It’s so disappointing, because I barely see them, and I can only rely on their interest in what I’m doing with my life to start a conversation.

A few months ago we flew to England and stayed with them a few days. Whilst having supper, naturally (as always) the conversation started with how I was doing, and what I was planning to do with my future now that I had graduated. I told them I was thinking about moving back to Japan to start working there. Somehow, one way or another, we started talking about life in Japan, and my parents chipped in by commenting on their experience in Tokyo as tourists. “There’s so many people!” And then someone asked, “what’s the population of Japan?”

And I said, “Let me google that.”

So I pulled out my smartphone. 127.3 million. Can you believe it? That’s a lot! That’s twice as much as the UK, isn’t it? What is the population of the UK? Granddad says 60 million, but grandma says 62.

Google says 64.1 million.

What about Spain? 50 million, perhaps? 55? Mum says 48, dad says 40. Nope, it’s 46.77 million as of 2014, says google.

We all guessed at the population of the US, of Canda, of France, of Germany; we cheered when one of us had almost hit the mark, and gasped at unexpected numbers. We looked up the dates of historical events, we read random wikipedia facts, we searched Stonehenge on google maps and read about the theories behind it, we googled ‘disc symbols ancient’ to try and figure out what this paperweight my granddad had in his office was supposed to be because he couldn’t remember its name and immediately found out it was a replica of the Phaistos Disc. “‘Disc symbols ancient’! How did google know what we were looking for just from that? That’s amazing!”

We went on for hours, and it was so. much. fun. For three whole hours, three. whole. fucking. hours, every topic we talked about was somehow linked to googling facts or images on my smartphone, and do you know what my granddad said to me as we started cleaning everything up?

He said this thing I had was amazing, and he wanted one too.

Technology is not a conversation stopper. It’s a conversation starter, and if you don’t know how to be responsible, if you don’t know how to make use of this amazing thing we have to keep a conversations going, then the problem isn’t smartphones, or facebook, or twitter. It’s you.

The buttons feel heated under his fingers, and now that he had noticed it, under his palms too—the computer was overheated. Had been for sometime now. Jackaboy's Sister - Markiplier x Reader

Request: Could you do a Mark x Reader where the reader is Jacksepticeye’s sister and you and Mark meet at a convention and start to flirt or kiss or something and Jack finds out and goes all over protective but ends in fluff.

A/N: I changed up the request a little, but kept the same general idea. I hope I did it justice!

Warnings: Swearing

Word Count: 1762

Being the sister of the famous Jacksepticeye wasn’t always the most fun or easy thing. It seemed like you barely had any privacy anymore. You were exposed. Whenever Sean wasn’t filming, he was documenting the rest of his life through pictures or short videos, and more often than not you were in them.

You tried to stay out of the limelight as much as possible, especially in the beginning. You’d put your Instagram profile on private, and you denied any requests from his fans adding you on Snapchat. But this just led to his fans complaining that you were anti-social and didn’t care about Sean’s fans. Which was rubbish. You were so happy  about what his fans had done for him. Hell, if it weren’t for them Sean probably never would have met his girlfriend, Signe.

But still, you wanted more. You didn’t want to be just known as the sister of Jacksepticeye. A few times, new friends or even potential relationships of yours had turned out to be fans of his, just trying to get close to Sean. And this was one of the reasons that you were currently single. You weren’t complaining! You’re a strong woman, and you don’t need anyone in your life romantically to make you feel better about yourself.

Sean, of course, no matter how many times you told him it was okay, felt personally responsible for your status as a single woman. And so he had offered multiple times to get you anything or do anything to make you feel better. You’d rebuffed his attempts so many times, until eventually you gave in, and asked for him to take you along to PAX. It had been a while since you left the country, and you’d always wanted to visit the States, so this was the perfect opportunity.

So after a six and a half hour flight, with Sean paying for your ticket, you ended up in Boston. Despite being there for mostly sightseeing, you were also there to support your brother. And after stopping off at the hotel to drop off your bags, you, Sean, and Signe turned up at the venue for the people behind the event to let Sean know how things were going to go down.

After a mini tech rehearsal, you and Signe went backstage to talk to Sean and his friends. And amongst them, was Mark. You’d met him a few times before, and spoken to him many more times. It started off as sending silly memes to each other, but then it evolved into proper conversations. You found out you had a lot in common, and it turned into text messages occurring almost every day. Occasionally the odd Skype call. And it was good to actually see him face to face again.

“How are you doing Y/N?” Mark asked when you and Signe joined the group. You nodded, an indication that you were fine. Sean didn’t know how you and Mark had gotten quite close over the past few months, and you’d decided to keep it that way. Despite Mark being one of Sean’s best friends, Sean was still really protective over you. So you didn’t want to cause any unnecessary trouble.

The group continued to have a conversation, and you stood there, laughing along with every joke that was being made. And every so often, you and Mark would catch each other’s eyes. You weren’t entirely sure what you had, or where this was going, but you did like it. Whatever it was.

The panel was over. Both Sean’s, and Mark’s. You’d found both of them amusing, and now you were hanging backstage. Signe and Sean had gone out to get food along with the others, and that left just you and Mark. Except you had no clue where he was. You’d been looking around for a while now, trying to find him.

After a while, you gave up, sitting down in a chair and taking a sip of water from a bottle one of the backstage people had given you. You took your phone out, ready to send a text to Mark to find out where he was, but then something caught your eye. It looked like someone was crawling around on the floor. After a few more minutes, you realised it was Mark. You stifled a laugh, what on earth was he doing?

You watched him for a while, highly amused. It looked as if he were reliving a Call of Duty mission or something. And it seemed as if he were talking to himself. You got up from your seat and walked over to where Mark had stopped behind a crate. You could still hear him. You walked around the side of the crate, and Mark instantly turned his head to look at you.

“Just making sure you’re okay over here.” You said with a grin. Mark reciprocated your smile, and you looked down, realising what he was doing. He was doing a livestream. It made sense. You didn’t think Mark was going crazy. At least not yet. Thank goodness he was actually talking to real life people.

“I’m fine, Y/N.” Mark said, tilting his phone up so now you were in the cameras view. You gave a quick wave to the millions of fans that were probably watching him act like a fool. “Can’t you see how fine I am?” He spoke again, lightly chuckling. You shook your head, the grin never fading from your face.

“You know, I can tell. You look very fine.” You said. You almost immediately regretted what you said. What you said was supposed to be a compliment, but it had been a long while since you’d tried to flirt with anyone. And saying that in front of all Mark’s fans probably wasn’t the best idea. You felt very awkward. But Mark didn’t seem fazed by what you’d said. At least, not in a bad way.

“Well you look very fine too, Y/N.” He replied. You were so very grateful that you hadn’t blushed. Why did you feel so weird? Did you actually like Mark? You’d suspected you may have feelings for him a few times. But due to the fact that Mark and Sean were friends, you’d pushed it down. And it had worked pretty well, up until now.

“Okay, well, I’ll be over there if you, uh, need anything.” You muttered, smiling a little before you walked back over to the chair you’d been sitting in. You sat down, putting your head in your hands. “What the hell was that, Y/N?” You asked yourself quietly. Oh look, now it was you who was talking to themselves. You sat like that for a while, until you heard someone call your name. You looked up to see Mark.

“Oh, hey!” You said, standing up. “You, um, finished your livestream then.” That’s it Y/N, state the obvious. That’s sure to ease the awkwardness that you created. Mark chuckled.

“Yeah, I did.” He replied. “And, I just wanted to ask you something.” Was it just you, or did he seem nervous? “Y/N, do you like me?” It took all of your energy to not run away from your embarrassment. You knew you shouldn’t have said anything. You sighed and nodded, closing your eyes and preparing yourself for the inevitable rejection.

Except it never came.

“Thank God.” Mark said, making you open your eyes again. You were confused. “Because after all these months, I thought maybe you did, but also I’m a terrible judge of character and I’m the most oblivious person in the world usually. And I’ve liked you for a long time because you’re so beautiful and smart and funny, but I just didn’t know what to do, y'know? I was scared you’d laugh at me and I-”

You cut him off by kissing him.

After he got over his initial surprise, he started to kiss you back. As your lips moved together, you couldn’t help but smile. You were a lot less confused than you had been a few hours ago. At least now you knew where you stood. It was pretty clear what your relationship with him was now.

“What the fuck?” A new voice exclaimed. You knew exactly who it was. You and Mark pulled away from each other. You didn’t open your eyes. Perhaps if you kept them closed, and wished hard enough, Sean would just go away. Just… keep your eyes squeezed shut, and maybe…

“Mark what the heck are you doing with my sister?”

No such luck.

You opened your eyes to see Sean standing a few feet away from you, Signe standing behind him, as if she were there to make sure he didn’t do anything stupid.

“Sean, I-”

“Mark that’s my baby sister!” Sean cut you off “My sister! You can’t just… kiss her! You can’t do that!”

“But Jack, I like her.” Mark said, trying to reason with his friend. “A lot. And I have for a while now.”

“So why keep it a secret, huh?” Sean asked. You honestly couldn’t tell if he was angry or shocked or what. His face wasn’t really conveying anything to you.

“Because we didn’t know how you would react, Sean!” You said. “You’re always going on about how you feel bad that I don’t date anyone, and I was worried if you found out I liked your best friend you would freak! But can’t you just be happy for us?”

Sean paused for a moment, looking away. You saw Signe whisper something in his ear, and he sighed before turning back to you and Mark. He took a few steps forward so he was directly in front of Mark.

“You can be with her. That’s fine. If you make her happy, then it’s all good.” Sean said, sounding eerily calm. “But if you ever hurt my sister. Ever. I will kill you. Understood?

Both your eyes and Mark’s were wide. You’d never seen this side of Sean before. But it was kind of sweet how much he cared. Mark nodded.

“Alright great!” Sean said, a grin suddenly appearing on his face. He started to walk away. “I’ll talk to ya later buddy!” He called over his shoulder. Signe walked up to you quickly.

“I’m glad you finally admitted it. You weren’t exactly subtle. Sean’s just oblivious.” She said with a chuckle. “I’ll talk to you later, Y/N.” She winked before following after Sean.

A few moments of silence.

“So…” Mark said, clearing his throat. You looked at him. “Sean’s kinda overprotective, huh?”

You laughed.

Our question to you is, never mind the outcome, how are you feeling in the process? – that’s what really matters, you see.
The score we want you to keep is: How good did I feel today? How much fun did I have today? How many wonderful conversations did I have today? How often today did I see the Universe yielding to me, in some significant way that wasn’t even in my ‘goal’ list or 'things to do’ list?
Momentum is what you’re reaching for, you see. Rather than looking for immediate or reasonably soon manifestations that give you the 'badge of honor’ that says you’re doing the right thing – just look for the Feeling of Momentum. Start with some generally good-feeling words, and rest with them long enough that you can feel the resonance of them. And watch the momentum that will come, we promise you.

So, I have friends on tumblr, and I am terrified of losing them, because idk how to start conversations? And I don't know how to help them when they're upset. And I don't want to lose them. I really don't.

Hi Anon!

This is a really good question.

Personally, I think starting a conversation online is actually easier than starting one in real life. You have the opportunity to introduce context as you begin the conversation, rather than having to base what you’re saying on the current context of where you are and what you’re doing.

For example, last night I went out with friends to get a sundae. We talked about the music playing in the car - that’s an easy and obvious discussion topic. We talked about sundaes. And we talked about each other, like my health issues, or my friend’s first week studying or how another friend really needs to quit her crappy job. Those are all subjects that arise naturally out of the context of where you are and who you’re with.

But the thing about online communication is that you can automatically bring the context along with you. One of my best friends lives a long way from me and we mostly only talk via facebook chat. Sometimes I might read a news article that makes me sad or angry or happy. I can send her the link and say something like “have you seen this?” or “omigod, I’m so mad about this”. It doesn’t matter what’s actually going on where I am or where she is, because the conversation comes with its own opening line, based on what I’m showing her.

And I think that’s a good way to talk to people online. So, let’s say you’ve got a friend on Tumblr. We’ll call your friend Susan.

Susan makes a post that she’s been tagged to do a question and answer thing, so she gives all the answers. One of the questions is name a food you love and Susan says she loves pancakes. That’s an opportunity for you to start a conversation with her, without worrying how to lead into that. You can just send her a message saying “Oh, your favourite food is pancakes?! Mine too!” And then you can talk to each other about pancakes. And that might lead to all kinds of other topics.

Another possibility is sending a link or tagging them in something you reblog. Maybe you think they’ll find it funny, or see themselves in it or be as angry about it as you. That starts a conversation too. You can send Susan a video of an otter sliding down a snow bank (someone tagged me in just such a video on Facebook and it was glorious). Then you and Susan can talk about otters. Or snow. Or which is the cutest animal.

As for comforting an online friend when they need it, the best thing you can do is be available. If Susan says she is having a bad day and she’s upset, then send her a message asking if she wants to talk to you about it. Ask her if there’s any way you can help. She might not know what kind of help she needs, but you can suggest. Maybe you could just let her vent her feelings to you. Or maybe she’d like your advice. You could find pictures of something she likes (like kittens or her favourite musician) and show them to her to see if it can cheer her up. You could offer to talk about something else with her, to take her mind off things.

There are lots of things you can do to talk to a friend in need, even if you’re not able to give them a real life hug or make them tea. Often, people feel better just by knowing that someone cares about them and wants to help.

Just to give more examples of what I mean, here are some actual opening sentences from my own recent online chat windows. I hope none of my friends will mind! I have many more friends online than offline, so I guess I’m doing something right, and so are they. Some of these are conversations I started, and others were started by the other person.

  • “Hi! Is the heat any better today?”
  • “Random question!!! You’re a singer, right? I’ve seen you say that somewhere???”
  • “Oh my God have you seen Moana yet?”
  • “Hiya! How’s the new job?”
  • “Have you SEEN this?” *link to video of famous actor*
  • “You’re into scrapbooking, right?”

Those are all good ways of starting a conversation, out of nowhere.

But you can also just start with a “How are you?” or “What’s up with you?” If you ask those questions and you care enough about the answers to keep the conversation going, then you are being an excellent online friend.

Most people love to talk about themselves, their lives and the things they’re interested in. If you can give them the space to do that, then they’re going to be happy, and they’re going to remember that you’re a person who makes them happy.

Good luck, make friends, keep friends and STAY COOL LIKE A TIGER SWIMMING IN ICECREAM!!!

Who I Was. (MarkxReader) Pt.5

A couple of months have passed, and we were on the plane, headed to America. Sora was unable to make it, due to her schedule for Twice. Harper was sitting next to me on the plane. She nudged me, making me look at her.

“You and Mark are getting kinda close. YOu two would be so cute.” She said, wiggling her eyebrows.

“Have you forgotten that he has a girlfriend?” I say, raising my eyebrow at her.

“I know he has a girlfriend, I wa just saying.” She shrugged, leaning back in her seat.

“Jinyoung is nice.” I mention.

“How many times have you talked to him? Like three times?” Harper said, giving me a look.

When we landed, there were fans everywhere. They crowded around us, screaming and taking pictures. Everyone was so calm, but I started to panic.

“There’s a lot of people here.” I say, hanging onto Jackson.

“Are you going to have a panic attack?” He asked, concerned.

“What? Me? I’m not panicking, are you panicking? Is it getting a little hot in here? Wow, there’s a lot of people here.” I say, panicking. Jackson pushed through the crowd, trying to get away from everyone.

“Here, shut up and eat this.” He said, handing me a chip from the chip bag he was holding. I took it, and ate it. he kept handing me more, until I calmed down.

“Good job, Jackson.” Mark said, impressed that that actually worked.

“What? Do you think this hasn’t happened before? I know what to do, she is my sister after all.” Jackson said, cockily.

“We still aren’t related.” I say, making Mark laugh.

“And how do you know that?” Jackson asked, helping me into the car that was waiting for us.

“Jackson, how many times are we going to have this conversation?” I asked, as the car started moving to the direction of the hotel.

“What if I told you, you were my half sister?” Jackson said, trying to convince me otherwise.

“I would tell you, you’re insane.” I say, making everyone laugh.

We arrived at the hotel, and checked in, making our way up to our rooms. Harper and I were sharing a room.

“You can stay in Jackson’s room, I don’t mind.” I say, as we get settled in.

“I might tonight… I’ll keep him occupied if you find a cute guy.” She laughed.

“Ha ha, very funny. But thanks. I’ll never get a boyfriend with him always saying he’s my brother and stuff.” I said, making her laugh more. “I think I’m going to go walk around the hotel for a bit, wanna come?” I asked, hoping off the bed, and started to make my way out of the room.

“Nah, I think I’m gonna take a power nap. Traveling makes me extremely tired.” She says, already crawling into the bed.

I left the room, and shut the door quietly, starting to walk down the hall.

“Okay, I’ll talk to you later, beautiful.” Mark says, into his phone, before hanging up. When he looked up from his phone, his eyes met mine, and he smiled. “What’re you doing out here?” He asked.

“Just walking around the hotel.” I say, starting to walk again.

“Oh, I’m walking too. Let’s walk together.” He said, joining me on my walk down the hallway.

“So, how’s Sora?” I asked, breaking the silence between us.

“She’s good. She’s really busy and stuff.” Mark says, simply.

“Sounds fun.” I said, crossing my arms as we walked.

“You having fun? Now that we’re away from the crowd and all?” Mark asked.

“Yeah, I’ve calmed down a lot since the airport… Sorry you had to see me freak out.” I said, embarrassed that he had to that.

“It’s okay. I’m glad Jackson knew what to do. He said it’s happened before?” He asks.

“Yeah, it happens a lot, sometimes over small things, like being late to an event or something. It’s whatever.” I said, shrugging it off.

“That doesn’t sound like whatever.” Mark pauses for a second. “Hey, since tonight is our free night, me and you should probably go over some Korean.” He suggested, making me groan.

“Oh come on, can’t we do that when we get back?” I asked, not wanting to learn anymore.

“How long has it been since you’ve studied it?” He asked, raising an eyebrow.

“Like a month.” I mumble.

“Exactly, no backing out this time, c’mon.” He took my wrist, and dragged me back to his room. He dug through his suitcase, and dumped out the flashcards we made a while back.

“You even packed them!?” I say, looking at the cards on the ground.

“Yep, let’s get to learning.” He said, sitting on the ground.

We started to go through the words. Mark would hold up a card, and I had to read from it, saying the word in Korean, then translating it to English.  We got one that read ‘키스’.

“Okay, what does this one say?” Mark asked, holding the card up.

“Kiseu.” I say, proud of myself for reading it so well, even though it was a simple word.

“And it means?” Mark questioned.

“Kiss.” I answer, smiling.

“Hm.. What’s that?” He asked, teasingly.

“Next time we come back to the card, I’ll give you a demonstration.” I joked, laughing a little.

Mark laughed as well, and continued to flash different cards. After a few, he went back to the kiss card.

“I think you need to remind me. What is this again?” He asked, leaning a little closer. I laughed, thinking he was joking, turns out he was quite serious.

“You’re serious?” I asked, surprised.

He bit his bottom lip, and smiled. “It’s not like we haven’t kissed before.” He says, innocently, puckering his lips dramatically.

“Fine.” I said, giving him a peck on the lips.

He chuckled, and pulled me in for a more passionate kiss. That kiss led to making out, and making out led to Mark’s hands traveling around my body. Every part of me was telling me this was a bad idea,  but my body wasn’t listening, I didn’t care.

Mark pulled my shirt over my head, breaking the kiss only for a second, before going right back in. He moved from my lips, down to my neck, his hand squeezing my breasts, soon unhooking my bra. I took his shirt off next, feeling his chest, and abs.

“Is this okay?” He asked, looking me in the eyes.

“Probably not.” I say, bringing him back to my lips.

Let’s just say, thing escalated quickly that night.

“We shouldn’t tell anybody about that.” I said, leaving Mark’s room the next morning.

He tugged at my shirt, and smirked. “Mhm.” is all he said.

He gave me another kiss, before playfully pushing me out into the hall. I laugh, and happily walked back to my room. I lean on the door, smiling like an idiot.

“Hey, where’d you go last night? You never came back to the room.” Harper said, watching as I plopped down on the bed.

“I was with Mark.” I said, regretting it as soon as it left my mouth, due to the look on her face.

She looked me up and down, and her face lit up with realization. “You and Mark had sex didn’t you!?” She practically yelled.

“What!? No!!” I said, almost as loud as her.

“You’re wearing his shirt.” She said, pointing at the oversized shirt I was wearing.

“So?” I said, trying to shrug it off.

“And no pants.” She said, raising an eyebrow.

“Okay that’s-”

“And you have that hair, and that stupid smile everyone gets.” She pointed out.

“Look, I smile a lot.” I started, but she wasn’t having it.

“You’ve been smiling since you got here.” She said. “You’re still doing it!”

“Stop!” I yelled, covering my face with a pillow.

“What happened to ‘Mark has a girlfriend.’ and ‘Jinyoung’s nice.’? Because it seems like you forgot.” Harper said, being a little serious now.

“I mean, what she doesn’t know won’t hurt her. It’s just a hook up, a one time thing.” I said, trying to wipe the stupid smile off of my face.

“I would be mad, if you two weren’t so freaking cute.” She sighs. “Ugh, if Sora finds out about you two, I didn’t know about the whole thing, got it?” She said, pointing a finger at me.

“I swear, your name won’t even come out of my mouth.” I say, holding one hand to my heart and the other in the air.

“I’m a terrible person.” She sighed.

There was a knock on the door, and Harper got up to get it, letting in Jackson.

“Hey.” He said, sitting on my bed next to me. “What’s up with the look on your face?” Jackson asks, studying me closely. I put my face in my hands, trying to cover my never ending smile. “(Y/N)… Are you okay?” He asked, getting closer to my face.

“We were just talking about girl stuff.” Harper covers for me. “We need to keep talking about it too, so come back later okay?” She said, tugging Jackson out of the room.

~Third person P.O.V~

Jackson walked into Mark’s room, and sighed. “Harper and (Y/N) are acting weird.” He said, sitting on the bed.

Mark looked at him for a second, before answering. “What do you mean?” He asked, sitting down as well.

“Well, when I walked into the girl’s room, (Y/N) had this stupid smile on her face, and when I asked what was up, Harper said they were talking about ‘girl stuff’ and kicked me out of the room… I wonder what’s-” Jackson stopped mid sentence, staring at the ground. “Hey… Isn’t that the shirt (Y/N) wore yesterday?” He asked, holding up the shirt. He looked around the room again. “And those are her pants-” He started, reaching for the clothing, but Mark quickly got up and knocked the pants out of his hands.

“Jackson, we’ve been really good friends for a long time, and I want to say thank you.” Mark said, making Jackson look him in the eyes.

“What?” Jackson raised an eyebrow, in confusion.

“I might have… Cheated on Sora… With (Y/N)…” Mark confessed, after taking a deep breath.

“You what!?” Jackson yelled, ready to hit the boy in front of him.

“But!” Mark said, making Jackson stop mid-slap. “I wanna say thank you.” Mark said, holding his hands up in defense.

“For what? What do you wanna say thank you for, Mark!?” Jackson asked, hands on hips.

“For being there for me.”

“For being my best friend.”

“And for having my back with this.”

“No! I am not being there for you, I don’t have your back, so just stop talking.” Jackson said, shaking his head.

“Just, get it off your chest, you know, tell somebody.” Mark said, staying calm.

“Like who? Who would I tell?” Jackson asked, growing annoyed.

“Well, not Harper.” Mark said. “Definitely not Harper.”

“Oh god.”

“Anyone but Harper.”

“This is too much.” Jackson said, putting his head in his hands.

“I knew I could trust you.” Mark said, putting a hand on Jackson’s shoulder.

“Can I say something, since you’re getting under my skin a little bit?” Jackson asked, running his fingers through his hair.

“Yeah, anything.” Mark said.

Jackson started hitting him, and Mark did the same. The two just stood there, hitting each other like two little girls.

“Give me one shot at that big head, I’m gonna knock you out.” Jackson said, holding up a fist. Mark backed away, and held his hands up.

“Look, I’m sorry! But it was something I needed.” Mark said, giving up on trying to be calm. “It’s been a whole year!” He whined.

“That’s your problem. You need to figure this out.” Jackson said, before storming out of the room.

You both kept this up for a whole week. You and Mark always doing things in his hotel room, and Jackson acting weird around Harper, not knowing she knew about the situation.

One day, you and Mark were trying to go over Korean, but like every time you guys tried to study, one thing lead to another, and you two were making out, when there was a knock at the door. Mark stood up, and went over to the door, fixing his clothes a bit before he actually opened it.

He froze when he saw who was standing in front of him. “Oh, uh, hey Sora…” He trailed off, overly surprised to see her.

“Hey Mark!” She sighed, smiling brightly.

“Hey… What are you doing here?” Mark asks, as he motions for you to leave behind his back.

“Well, Twice got done with promotions early, so they said I could come on tour with you now.” She said, leaning up to kiss him, but Mark moved his face away, and hugged her awkwardly. “Oh, okay, I figured you would want a kiss, but I guess not.” She said, kinda suspicious.

“I’m sick.” He said, quickly. As the two talked, you hid in the bathroom, and shut the door quietly.

“So, can I come in? Or are you gonna make me stand out here for the rest of the tour?” Sora asked.

“Oh, yeah, totally, sure, of course.” Mark said, awkwardly. He looked over his shoulder, to see where you were. When he didn’t see you, he opened the door fully, so Sora could come in.

Once she walked fully in, and her back was turned to the door, you bolted out of the hotel room into the hallway, without being seen.

“Are you okay? You’re acting kinda weird?” Sora asked, eyeing him.

“Me? I’m great, I’m just so surprised and happy you’re here.” Mark said, trying to put on a genuine smile.

He sat on the bed, and Sora sat next to him. She made a weird face, as she felt something under the bed. She bent down, and picked it up, scrunching her eyebrows when she saw the bra that was hiding in the room. Mark cleared his throat, as he stared at it as well.

Realization hit Sora’s face, and she stood up angrily. “Okay, I see.” She said, starting to walk out.

“Dammit Jackson.” Mark practically yells, stopping Sora from leaving. She turned around, and gave him a weird look. “It’s Harper’s, I caught Jackson and Harper doing stuff in here last night, I guess she left it.” Mark says. He grabbed the bra, and threw it somewhere in the room. “He can be a bit much, you know.” He said, shrugging. “Let’s go for a walk, and catch up, K?” He wrapped his arm around her shoulder, kissing the top of her head, and leading her out of the room.

anonymous asked:

I like someone who does not like me back. Someone who will not message me unless I message first. Someone who does not think of me when I struggle to stop thinking of them. I am lost on what to do. It is hard not to message her and ask her how she is. I've asked for help so many times, and for some reason, I don't seem to have control over it. I can't control how I feel, or how I get the urge to try to converse with her. Please, what do I do?

Hello, dearest anon. I understand what you’re feeling and I’m here to help as best I can. First off, does she know how you feel? You cannot assume that she automatically doesn’t like you. I’ve done that one too many times and it feels worse than confessing. If you haven’t told her how you feel, start by doing that. Honesty is the best way to start feeling more content, not just to them, but to you as well. If you have told her than I am proud of you cause confessing takes guts. I hate to say this, but lots of women will refuse to message first, I mean I am that kind of woman. It’s not a matter of us disliking you (or somebody else), it’s more of us either being extremely lazy or in most cases, we want to see you try. We want to know that you care enough to start and keep a conversation. We want to know that you’re taking time out of your day just to ask how we’re doing. It’s the little things that matter. I personally never message first because of all those reasons.

How do you know she doesn’t think of you as much as you think of her? If any person, friend, lover, male, woman, anybody really, consistently shoots a message first and asks how you’re doing, you will always be thinking of them. On the days they don’t send that message that you’re so used to seeing everyday, they wonder what happened. On the other hand, there is never anything wrong with asking somebody how they are. It’s a kind action and does not always have to signify romantic feelings. It shows you care.

I think your issue is that you think it’s wrong to feel the way you do. That you HAVE to control yourself, that you HAVE to stop feeling, but truth is, that’s where the main problem lies. There is nothing wrong with having feelings for somebody. Never let anybody tell you otherwise. I get the sense that you haven’t told her how you feel or else the circumstance wouldn’t be as large of an issue. In my opinion, the best way to get over someone is to tell them how you feel. If the feeling is mutual then great! If not, that is also great because you were able to muster up the courage and tell somebody how you feel. Rejection stings and can feel awkward but I firmly believe it helps you move on faster. Once you confess, you no longer have to hold anything in. When we bottle up our emotions we think we’re okay but eventually everything needs to explode. We begin to panic or cry or feel even worse then before.

There are so many variables to consider and I can only read the situation as I see it. Like I said, there is nothing bad about wanting to chat with somebody. You don’t need to control anything, you just need to be free. Now I will lay out the options for you and if they’re not what you’re looking for, message me and we’ll chat. I’ll help you through this, I promise.
- Confess if you haven’t already
- Delete her number and contact
- Continue to do what you’re doing
- Take a few days away and see if she tries to message you. Sometimes the silent treatment works miracles

Now these are just the obvious options but like I said, feel free to message me and we can talk about this more in depth. I hope you decide to message me but nonetheless I wish you the best of luck. I’m not going to say the corny “If they don’t see your value, they’re not worth your time,” because I know how impossible it can be to get over someone. Follow your heart, anon. Xoxoxo

Introvert Imagine CATB

Van: You had been dating Van for about two months now and you were worried you were starting to bore him. By nature you were quite introverted, you loved to stay in and read or joke around with Van. Tonight you were listening to music and chatting about your future, like if you wanted kids, if so how many, and what you might name them. It felt a bit strange to be talking about this stuff already but at the same time with Van it felt comfortable. The conversation came to an end and you looked at the floor. “What are ya thinking about?” can asked. “Do I bore you by staying in all the time?” you replied with another question biting your lip. “No! what gave you that idea? You make my life like my favorite song Wouldnt Have It Any Other Way!” You laughed and hugged Van as he started singing The Streets to remind you just how his favorite song goes.

Bondy: Bondy had been your best mate since high school, you were pretty much opposites but for some reason you clicked. He was extroverted and apologetically himself while you were introverted and quiet, but when you were together you were a bit louder and extroverted and Bondy was more quiet and reserved like you balanced each other out. For the last two weeks Bondy was on break from tour and he spent nearly every minute of it with you. At the end of his visit while he was packing to go back on tour you asked him “Hey Bondy, How come you stayed with me this whole time? not that i didnt love it… but didnt you wanna go out with the boys?” Bondy smiled and looked at the floor before answering “I need this time with you Y/N, you keep me grounded.” You smiled back at him then walked over to get a hug.

Benji: It was a Friday night and you decided to brave the public to go to the store to get some candy and a movie from the Redbox. You threw on some jeans, a zip up hoodie over a tank top, then some minimal makeup and hit the road. You took a few breaths before entering the store hoping to get in and out without interaction. You grabbed the candy and made it through the self checkout no problem. Now onto the Redbox, luckily this store had two and one was open the other was taken by a cute tall curly haired boy. He obviously saw you approach and he smiled kindly, you smiled back but kicked yourself for not waiting for both machines to be free. You began to look through the movies deciding on some random new sci-fi flick when you heard a voice “Ah that ones no good, sorry but you gotta stick with the classics with sci-fi” You grabbed the movie and spun around to see the cute boy standing there and smiling down at you. He was so handsome it made you blush just to have his attention. “Well its too late now, Ive committed to watching it. What movie did you pick?” you built up enough confidence to ask. “Ha ha ha dont think me a liar but its Rouge One, a good modern sci-fi film” you both had a laugh and chatted a bit more until he asked you for your number saying that he would love to get together sometime to further discuss films. You were so glad you decided to brave the public that day.

Bob: You were a waitress for you dads restaurant reluctantly, you were very shy and your dad thought this would bring you out of your shell. One day a group of four very cute boys came in and sat in your section. You instantly got flustered as you gathered the menus. You brought the menus to the boys introduced yourself and asked for drink orders all without stuttering. Three of the boys gave you their orders confidently but the last lad blushed slightly having a hard time making eye contact while ordering his tea. This was super cute to you so you send this boy a smile and said you would be right back with their drinks. As you walked away you heard the boys teasing their friend about how he had a crush on the fit waitress. You were so thankful for you job that day.

She was loud and in your face. She made everybody do shots, apart from me. She didn’t ask me, why didn’t she ask me? Because she knew I would say no? Did she already know I didn’t want to be there? No, she couldn’t have. She didn’t know me, I was just a plus one for Angela. I don’t blame her for not asking me, I’m no fun in social situations or ever, for that matter.

Whale Songs

Requested: Reid tends to ramble, and one day the Reader snaps at him. She discovers from someone else that her words have upset him, because he cares for her much more than he let on.

It’s the one constant in her life: Spencer Reid’s rambling. Sometimes it comes in the form of a lecture, sometimes it comes in long-winded passionate speeches. Without fail though, he finds something to talk about with her. She never minds; watching his eyes light up as he gets excited about something always makes her smile. And besides, it’s Spencer. She adores him. Their conversations are often the highlight of her day, on days off they spend time together just hanging out. Talking about everything and about nothing.

Once he told her that nobody has ever listened to him the way she does. They find him annoying, or boring. “You will never annoy me,” she assures him. “You can always talk to me. About anything. I’ll never stop wanting to hang out with you.”

That invitation had always been open, with the hopes he would realize just how much she meant by that. From friendship developed a crush she’d been harboring for months, wondering if he felt the same way. There were times she was almost certain of it, when his gaze would linger to long, or his hand would brush hers and he would make no effort to pull away.

With love, she listens to all of his little lectures. Never is she impatient or irritated.

Now, she had been dreading seeing him all morning.

It began with an overheard conversation as they were leaving the plane, after the last case. Spencer was talking to JJ, telling her all about someone he met. They walked a few feet in front of her, and the words came in bits.

“Alicia is really amazing… Every time we meet up, it seems like it was meant to be… Listens to everything I say, and she never gets mad when I ramble…”

Her heart sank. That was her job, being privy to all the things he loved to discuss. Who was Alicia? Why had he never mentioned her before?

“We have so much in common and… I’ve been meaning to ask her to dinner so we can… but I’m really lucky to be with her.”

“Alicia – she’s the really pretty red-head you showed me a picture of, right?” JJ asked.

“Yeah, that’s her!” She could practically hear the smile in his voice.

Was he invested in a serious relationship? Y/N tried to maintain composure, despite the words nearly paralyzing her. It shocked her, the idea that he was dating someone, and he never once thought it might be important to mention that.

All this time, she’d been pining for someone who would never see her in that way. It stung, deeply. Apparently they weren’t as close as she’d thought. Every long-winded discussion she thought only she got to hear was nothing special. It never had been.

That night, she went home and mourned the loss of a relationship that would never be. That morning, she arrives at work and tries to avoid Spencer at all costs. Sitting at her desk, she buries herself in paperwork, attempting to look incredibly busy. Paperwork has never stopped him before, and it doesn’t stop him now.

Spencer comes strolling up to her desk, a huge grin on his face. “Morning, Y/N!” When she doesn’t respond, he launches right into conversation. “Hey, I was watching a documentary last night, did you know that the loneliest animal in the world is a whale? There’s just one whale, whose songs emit at a frequency impossible for other whales to hear. They sing to attract mates and to communicate, in addition to exploring their environment. Most blue whales vocalize at a frequency of 10-39 hertz, which is too low for the human ear to pick up. Fin whales sing at approximately 20-hertz.”

His fingers curl as he talks, the gesture a sign that he’s launching into lecture mode. The words come faster and faster, as his excitement grows, meaning she has to work to keep up with what he is saying. Already she can feel herself growing more frustrated, wishing he would just leave her alone. Why is he telling her? Why does he care? There are other people for him to talk to. Other people who probably watched the documentary with him. People like Alicia.

“The whale’s call was first discovered in 1989, so for about two decades, it’s been out there, singing. Since no other known whale can understand it, scientists assume it’s just out there alone. Calling out, but never getting a response. Interestingly enough, some have suggested the whale could be deaf, or that-”

“Reid, for god’s sake, shut up!” she snaps. Instantly, hurt crosses his face. She’s never yelled at him before, and it’s been ages since she called him by his last name. To her, he’s been Spencer. A friend, not just a colleague. Someone dear. “You always show up at work, rambling about the dumbest things! It’s never anything important!” Those conversations, she thinks, are saved for Alicia. “Why do you always have to come bother me? There’s a limit to how many statistics someone can stand, and you crossed that line a long time ago. It’s annoying! Now, I have a job to get done, if you weren’t aware. So next time you want to prattle on about sad whales, go and tell someone who actually cares.”

The insults leave her mouth with more acidity than she intended, but she cannot seem to stop herself once she’s started. Jealousy takes over, and she can only recall the way he spoke so fondly of this other woman. Save the rambling for Alicia. Let her have his enthusiasm, and the stupid smile on his face whenever he’s excited, and the way he laughs at his own jokes. The way he looks so fondly at her when she laughs with him.

Those things are no longer hers. They were never hers to begin with.

Y/N doesn’t bother to watch his reaction, instead sitting back down with her work. His footsteps fade away, indicating his departure from the bullpen. Good, she thinks. The less she has to see him today, the better.

Just when she thinks it’s over, someone else approaches her desk. “What was that about, Y/L/N?” JJ asks, her hands on her hips. “There’s no reason for you to be yelling at him.”

“Please, JJ, I don’t want to do this right now.”

Switching immediately into mother bear mode, JJ shuts Y/N/s file. “We’re absolutely going to do this right now. If you’re going to make him cry, you’re going to explain.”

For a second she’s stunned. He was crying? That wasn’t her intention. “What do you mean?”

“Spence ran out of the bullpen in tears, and I heard you yelling at him! What’s going on?” The glowering look she gives makes it clear that nothing could possibly justify what’s happened. JJ has been close with Spencer for years, she protects him and looks out for him. The team may make fun of him or roll their eyes at him, but they won’t tolerate anybody hurting him intentionally.

She fidgets nervously. “He – he was just rambling on, like he always does. Something about a lonely whale. And I just couldn’t take it and I snapped at him.”

JJ narrows her eyes. “You’ve never had a problem with him talking before. What are you not telling me?”

“JJ, please-”

“I’m not leaving until you explain this,” she snaps. “He’s my friend. And I thought he was yours too.” The accusation cuts deep, because the last thing she has ever wanted to do is hurt her friend. He means more to her than anyone, which is precisely the issue. She didn’t expect it to upset him that much though.

“We are friends. That’s the problem.” Speaking softly, she says, “I like him as so much more than that, and I thought he liked me too, but as it turns out, he has a girlfriend already. Who he never even bothered to tell me about.”

Jennifer frowns, visibly confused. “What?”

Indignation bubbles in the back of her throat. After all, it was JJ that Spencer was talking to, she absolutely knows about the girlfriend. Maybe she was never truly close with him. Maybe time trumps all, and he still doesn’t trust her. “I heard you two talking! Last night, he told you all about Alicia.”

Alicia? Alicia is his research partner,” JJ cries, exasperated. “They’re working on a study together, not dating! He likes you, he’s liked you for months! Why do you think he comes to you all the time? He just wants to be around you.”

The words knock the wind out of Y/N. If what JJ says is true, then she’s just yelled at the person who does in fact care for her, who reciprocates those feelings she assumed were one-sided. And because of her, he’s hurting.

“Where is he?” she asks, the desperation evident in her voice.

“I don’t know, he just left.”

Y/N practically leaps from her desk chair, and pushes past the glass doors. She knows. It’s where he always goes when he needs a moment alone. Two hallways, two lefts, and the third door on the right. An isolated stairwell that is rarely used, as the elevator is much more convenient. Standing there, she realizes it’s entirely possible he doesn’t want to see her.

He may never speak to me again, she thinks. We might not even be friends anymore. And it’s my fault.

It takes a few deep breaths to quell her nerves, and as she opens the door she braces herself to whatever his reaction might be. As expected, he’s sitting there on the stairs, and at the sound of the door he hastily wipes his eyes with his sleeve before looking up. His face pales.

“Oh, um, I was just leaving.” Spencer begins to stand, but she holds a hand up, and leans against the door, blocking his exit.

“Please don’t. I need to apologize.”

Avoiding her gaze he tells her, “There’s no need. I get it. I’ll stop bothering you.”

“You don’t. You don’t bother me.” Every moment with him has been a gift, every goofy smile something she treasures. The only way he’s ever bothered her is driving her mad with longing, with waiting and wondering if someday, someday, they’ll ever be more than friends.

“But you said-”

“I know what I said. And I didn’t mean it. Spencer, I only said it because I was upset with you.”

“What did I do wrong?”

“Nothing,” she says. “Nothing at all. It’s my fault. I heard you talking to JJ last night when we were leaving the runway. You were telling her about Alicia, and how smart she was and how pretty she was. I thought she was your girlfriend. And you didn’t tell me about her.”

“That’s why you yelled at me?” he asks.

“No, I yelled at you because you were rambling. I don’t find it annoying. It’s actually rather endearing. I love listening to you, and I thought that you had someone more important in your life to talk to instead.”

“Why did that upset you so much?” So completely oblivious. She takes a deep breath, preparing herself to just get it over with. Standing before him is standing on the edge of the high dive, staring down at the water, and knowing that the only way to stop the fear is to take the leap.

Somewhere out there, is a whale that sings too high for any other whale to understand. That has never stopped it from calling out in the hopes that its loneliness will come to an end. That it will be heard and understood. All his life, Spencer has wanted someone to listen. That’s what she’s tried to do, until messing it up today.

“Isn’t it obvious? I like you, Spencer. I was jealous, and it was stupid, and I said things that I didn’t mean. I assumed you were in love with Alicia, and all along I’d been hoping that someday you might love me.”

“But I do!” he blurts out, just as candidly. “I’ve always liked you. I never said anything because I thought you could never feel the same way.” The way he says it breaks her heart. Defeated, so resigned to the fact that he’s meant to be alone.

He isn’t. She hears him. She understands him. There’s simply been a miscommunication.

When she steps towards him and he doesn’t flinch, she takes it as permission to come a little closer. To press her hand against his cheek with a touch as soft as possible. He is beautiful and he is brilliant and he is so damn lonely.

And so is she.

“Spencer,” she murmurs. “How could I not? You’re my best friend. You make me happy. Everything about you makes me smile. I’m so sorry for what I said. I had no idea Alicia was your research partner – JJ explained it to me.”

The hint of a smile returning to his lips, he reaches up to cover her hand with his own. The smallest gesture of forgiveness. What a miracle that word is. So full of possibilities and of hope.

“Alicia is great, but she’s just a friend. I’ve always wanted to be with you. And besides,” he adds, his smile widening. “We’re not exactly each other’s types. I don’t think her girlfriend would let anything happen between us, even if I was interested in her.”

A furious blush covers her cheeks in embarrassment. She has misread everything about the situation, based on a few out-of-context snippets of conversation she heard. “Does this mean we’re… okay?” she asks.

“Yeah,” he says. “We’re okay.”

All the tension she has been holding on to is released. “Oh thank goodness,” she sighs. Her lungs remember how to take in air, her heart returns to a steady rhythm. Then she meets his eyes again. “So, what happened to the lonely whale?”

Spencer grins, and she feels her spirits lift in sync with the corners of his mouth. That joy of his is contagious, it always has been. She simply can’t resist.

“Well, nothing is certain, since they’ve never seen the whale or heard another call on that frequency. Some scientists believe it’s possible for other whales to understand him, but perhaps they can’t replicate the call. So he could have a companion, and that call could make it easier for him to be heard. It’s possible that the lonely whale isn’t all that lonely, after all.”

“Is that right?” she asks, leaning in.

Their lips mere millimeters apart, she can feel the breath of his words as he responds, “I’d like to think so.”

They meet in a kiss that has been oh-so-long in the making, and in the back of her mind she knows that whatever the case may be for the lonely whale, there are two people in Quantico, Virginia who are no longer quite so alone.

How To: Have a Great Meet-and-Greet

As a Character Attendant, I’ve seen my fair share of awful meet-and-greets, as well as a ton of “Magical Moments.” But Alice can’t ride the Teacups with EVERY family, so how are you supposed to guarantee those special memories on your Disney vacation? Well, there’s not foolproof way to do it, but if you follow these suggestions, you’ll find that your interactions with characters becomes a lot more memorable and fun for you and the character!

1. Have a Conversation Piece

I can not tell you how many times I have had to watch a character interaction between a princess and a little girl where the little girl does not say a word. That leaves the princess with very few options when it comes to conversation starting. Most of the time, it revolves around what the little girl is wearing: Florals? Punzie can TALK about flowers. Tiara? Cindy will ask the girl who her fairy godmother is. Ice queen dress? “Queen Elsa! I wasn’t expecting you today!” It is magical for the little girls, but to the princesses, the story is stale. So this is where you spice it up.

 a. Wear something loud

It may be a band t-shirt, a character t-shirt, a flower crown, or just your favorite outfit. If you’re rocking it, they’ll likely turn it into a conversation piece. Jasmine may ask you a few questions about this One Direction that these five four boys are headed in, or Buzz Lightyear may have some deep hidden love for the Ninja Turtles (true story). If you look like the Tremaines or Sleeping Beauty’s Fairies, then the characters are going to say something about it. It gives them a chance to talk about new things, and often times, they have fun with it.

b. Bring something to give them

This usually works better with little kids, but I’ve seen it done with older kids too. Bringing a drawing you did or a small gift is a fun way for the characters to gush about YOUR skill or YOUR taste. It’s also really fun for the characters to have something to look forward to eating/enjoying/putting on their wall when they head back to Neverland, Wonderland, Arendelle, or the Enchanted Forest.

I once was with Cinderella in the castle and this little girl gave Cindy a music box. Cindy opened the music box an found a smooth, blue stone. She took it out and said, “Oh how lovely!” Then looks at the little girl and says, “Is this a magical wishing rock?” Confused, the little girl looks at Cindy and says, “No. It’s just a rock.” Cindy was still laughing about it all the way up to her room. The characters love gifts.

Ideas include drawings, letters, fake flowers, pins, stones, small merch, candy, etc. Just remember, if it’s worth more than $10 they have to deny it 3 times before excepting the gift.

c. Bring something to show them

This is my personal favorite. I have a book of Grimm’s Fairytales with pages that I’ve painted. Each painted page corresponds with a different princess. I love showing characters my art and then having them sign it. They talk about how talented I am (which is laughable, but I digress), and love flipping through the rest of the book for the pages that aren’t theirs. I’ve seen people do similar things with THEIR art and every time, the characters get really excited. Some will even try to commission you to paint portraits for them. I’m supposed to be painting a giant mural on the side of the castle for the Tremaines in May. We’ll see.

Another great thing I’ve seen is props. My friend once brought Yorick, the skull of the jester from Hamlet, around to meet all the princesses. It was an absolute riot and she got some great pictures. I’ve seen people do similar things with stuffed animals, tsum-tsums, dolls. I’ve seen people bring Flounder to Ariel, Pascal to Rapunzel, and Olaf to Anna and Elsa. It’s fun for the characters to interact with other friends from their stories. I’ve also had the privilege of seeing a girl who brought a frying pan with her to see Rapunzel. I have never heard Punzie squeal so loud.

d. Actually start a conversation

They may be princesses and pirates, but they’re people too. Tell them a funny thing that happened to you today. Talk to them about your favorite rides in the park. Let them know you’re planning on taking over their kingdom. They’ll have fun with any story you want to tell them.

2. “Yes, and…”

This simple rule of improv helps you get the most out of your meet and greet. You take the characters story, and add to it. I once went to see Rapunzel with my St. Patrick’s Day shirt on and we talked about her plans to go down to the Snuggly Duckling and have a St. Patty’s Day celebration with the Ruffians. I suggested green leprechaun party hats, she suggested green streamers, I told her our family tradition of dying the toilet water green and telling my sister the leprechauns had forgotten to flush, and pretty soon, we had planned the whole party.

The “Yes, And..” Rule can get you some pretty crazy pictures, too. Don’t ask me how these pictures happened. I don’t even know.

3. Get a good pose

There are three ways to do this: have one in mind, ask your attendant, or ask a character. Tell your Photopass Photographer if you want more than one pose and/or how many individuals you want. This lets them know that you’re not done after the first picture.

When thinking up your own pose, ask yourself a few questions. Is this appropriate? No lewd gestures. No gang signs. No sexually suggestive body placement. Can the character do this? Characters can’t make sorority or frat signs. They can’t pick up children (or anyone for that matter). Would the character be willing to do this? They aren’t going to lay on the ground in most cases (and Andy is not coming. Neither is Bonnie.) Some characters aren’t comfortable with kissing poses. And for Pete’s sake, Pan, Wendy, and Alice are 12. Jasmine is 15. Ariel is 16.

I went to see Woody and Buzz in Hollywood Studios the other day and my friend and I told the boys that we worked at a magical kingdom down the road and we were used to working with princesses all day. We asked them if they wouldn’t mind posing like princesses with us. The result was hilarious. Buzz channeled Rapunzel, I had a mean Aurora, my friend made a great Snow, and Woody had Cindy down pat.

Asking your characters or attendants for poses can be pretty fun. Minnie has posed my friend like a poodle, Daisy and I have gone full diva. Often the characters will have you copy their pose or have you take their arm. They know what looks good and they’ll let you know where to stand for the best pictures. just ask.

4. Go with the Flow

There is a rhythm and a flow to every meet-and-greet… and it’s no accident. Disney has a thing called Pass Show Flow and everyone tries to stick to it. The flow is typically a greeting, an activity or story, signing, and finishing with the picture. It’s really frustrating for attendants when a family spends a long time taking pictures and THEN the family takes out 8 autograph books. Photos are the last part of your meet-and-greet, so get the paperwork out of the way before hand.

And boom. Memories.

I actually had a blast looking through all these pictures, finding the ones I wanted to use for this post. It brought up a lot of memories from the last few months that I wouldn’t have had without using these tips. The most fun meet and greets I‘ve had were with friends (clearly), but I’ve had my most memorable by myself (usually with Fairy Godmother, but I’m biased). I hope you enjoyed this post and found it useful in some way. or maybe you just got a kick out of my silly photos. Either way, I hope you can use these tips to make the most out of your time meeting characters at Disney.

toebeanssss  asked:

I'm like a hella awkward person so i have a question (btw im new to tumblr so idk if im doing this right hehe) how do you initiate a friendship with other people online?? Esp fellow kpoppers? I wanted to ask since you guys run an account with 3 admins and i kinda want to know (if im not being to nosy!!) how you all met each other and etc. Thanks in advance!!!

Hey, no problem! It’s really nice to get some other asks from you guys too!

There are many ways you can find friends around here. Especially because it’s really easy to find people with the same interests. Just follow some awesome blogs you like and start a conversation. Write them a message or comment on one of their posts. You can also make a post asking other people with the same interests to message you. It’s also really helpful to be part of/ apply to a network! Admin Moon can tell you more about that though.

But how we started out? We actually all went to school together. I (Admin Kruemmel) got into k-pop first and then forced Moon and L to listen to it with me (aka I played Overdose until they couldn’t get it out of their heads). I remember Moon asking me who Kai is and me spamming her with pictures of him…. good times. I got them into Exo first but we quickly changed our main interest to BTS (after Moon refused to listen to danger for two weeks even though i told her it’s really good *cough* never gonna let this go).

It was Moon’s idea to open the blog and I am really gad we did it. We just wanted a place to share our love for writing and BTS with all of you! And it has been great so far!

Sadly University is very stressful for L so she quit the blog, but we are still best friends in real life.

Hope I could help you and don’t hesitate to message us!

Starting Your NaNoWriMo Journey

Whether you’re new to NaNoWriMo or you’ve done it a few times, the whole thing can still feel pretty daunting. Since we’re only a couple days away from the start of a new one, I want to encourage you to set some goals and make sure you’ve done some planning before diving in. When you only have a month to complete a project, you’ll want to make sure you’re organized and excited.

Here are a few tips for making your NaNoWriMo journey an enjoyable one:

Pick a Project

I like participating in NaNoWriMo and I’ve penned a few novels through it, but I don’t always use it for the same thing. The point of NaNoWriMo is to motivate yourself to get something done or started. Sure, finishing the first draft of your novel is usually the goal, but I plan on using next month for editing an already completed novel. Maybe you’ll use November to work on your outline or finish some project that’s been nagging at you. Use November for writing and make it about you. Push yourself to cross that finish line.

Print a Calendar

Find a November calendar, print it out, and keep track of your accomplishments. When you can cross those days off, jot down your word count, or write something encouraging—all those things can go a long way. Make note of any obligations you might have so you can adjust accordingly.

Enlist a Friend

NaNoWriMo can be very personal, but you don’t have to do it alone! Even if you don’t have a writing friend, there’s a huge online community. Sign up for your NaNoWriMo account, find other participants on Twitter, and start a conversation! Everyone will be going through something similar in November.

Jot Down a Timeline

Figuring out how many words you want to write a day or taking note of any other goals is an important step during NaNoWriMo. If you’re writing your first novel, work on an outline or prepare yourself for when NaNoWriMo begins. Knowing where you want your story to go can be a big help.

Stay Organized

Clean off your desk, find a calm writing space, and take care of yourself. Don’t let the rest of your life fall apart because you want to finish the first draft of a novel. Eat right, take a long shower or bath, focus on your mental health, and have conversations with other writers. This is supposed to be fun! If you’re working from an outline, make any adjustments before you go to bed that night so you’re prepped for the next day. Enjoy yourself.

A Letter to my uncle on why I converted to Islam

Dear Brian,

You don’t have to read all of this right now; as you are working and it is quite lengthy(although I hope you have a chance to today), however I have been wanting to discuss and share something with you. You may have picked up a few things lately, such as my reading choices and my necklace that Bilal commented on, but yes- it is regarding Islam. I’m sending this to you now because I wanted to get the initial expected ‘shock’ out of the way, because I have been too afraid to simply bring it up in conversation. I know you have always been supportive of me and my decisions; however, Islam is not something that many people receive very well- especially when they do not know the actual facts about it. Granted, I do not know how much you know on it, but I can only judge by what the average American knows, and what I knew before doing my own research.

I suppose I should start by explaining what led me to Islam in the first place. I’m not sure if you were aware or possibly just assumed, but I’ve always been very confused and lost as far as religion goes. The fact that mom didn’t have me baptised because she wanted me to have the choice, always spoke volumes to me, and made me wonder what just exactly I was meant to be led to. I think I always believed in SOMETHING, I just didn’t really know what. I felt that there was a God, but didn’t know who or what. And I didn’t feel him with me, due to all the chaos and pain I was surrounded by for so long, and moms passing just magnified those feelings infinitely.  So I spent most of my teenage years not believing in anything. When I was living with dad, Catholicism was kind of shoved down my throat, and it was hard for the scriptures to resonate with me when everyone around me was preaching them but not abiding by them. I felt like something was wrong with me because I couldn’t FEEL what everyone else claimed to. I felt like maybe I just wasn’t as important to God. After going to Nanaes, I kind of just let it go for awhile. I had to be my own savior for a while, because I had no where to go but up. And hell if I didn’t bounce up higher than I ever had before. But still, upon being in university, it just recently started kind of gnawing at me again. That feeling of something missing. I wanted to be able to lay my burdens on someone greater when they became too much to bear. I needed to know what I believe in. So I started doing some research. And that’s when I found Islam. And trust me, I’m probably just as shocked as you are. Never in a million years would I think Islam would be the religion that touched my heart. But the more I’ve learned, the more I’ve fallen in love with it, and I have never been so happy. Everything that Islam stands for, is what I’ve already believed. And I feel a connection with Allah(God, same God that is in Christianity and Judaism), that I have never felt before. And it is such a beautiful feeling. That being said, your idea of Islam may be completely different from mine, as my perception is completed different to what it was prior to studying it. So I want to cover some things- some prior misconceptions I had regarding Islam that you may have as well:
So what exactly is Islam? What are its origins?
⦁ In Arabic, the word “Islam” means submission or surrender – however, it was derived from the root word “salam”. From this root word, you can also derive the words peace and safety. Many people feel that Islam implies some sort of enslavement to Allah, but others find it more helpful to define the word “Islam” as surrender. Islam DOES in fact, promote peace.
“White has no superiority over black.. except by piety and good action.” -Muhammads final sermon
“And walk not on the earth with conceit and arrogance” [al-Isra’ 17:37]
“Whoever recommends and helps a good cause becomes a partner therein, and whoever recommends and helps an evil cause shares in its burdens” Qur’an:4:85
“Be quick in the race for forgiveness from your Lord, and for a Garden (paradise) whose width is that of the heavens and of the earth, prepared for the righteous – Those who spend (freely), whether in prosperity or in adversity, who restrain (their) anger and pardon (all) men – for God loves those who do good.” Qur’an:3:133-134
The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: “The best charity is that given to a relative who does not like you.” Fiqh-us-Sunnah:V3N100
A funeral procession once passed in front of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) and he stood up out of respect. When he was told the person in the coffin was Jewish and not Muslim, he said: “Was it not a living (soul)?” Bukhari:V2N399
The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: “(Each one) of you should save himself from the fire by giving even half of a date (in charity). And if you do not find a half date, then (you can do it through saying) a pleasant word (to your brethren).” Bukhari:V2N394
The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) once said to one of his companions: “Son, if you are able, keep your from malice toward anyone.” Al-Tirmidhi:59
The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said “No companion of mine should tell me anything bad about another person. For when I meet you, I would like my heart to be clean (unbiased.)” Riyadh-us-Salaheen:1539
⦁ The rise of Islam is intrinsically linked with the Prophet Muhammad, believed by Muslims to be the last in a long line of prophets that includes Moses and Jesus (yes, Muslims believe Jesus was a prophet). Because Muhammad was the chosen recipient and messenger of the word of God through the divine revelations, Muslims from all walks of life strive to follow his example. After the holy Qur'an, the sayings of the Prophet (hadith) and descriptions of his way of life (sunnah) are the most important Muslim texts.
⦁ Muslims believe the Sunnah is the practical example of Prophet Muhammad and that there are five basic Pillars of Islam.
⦁ These pillars are the declaration of faith (shahada), praying five times a day (salah), giving money to charity (zakat), fasting (sawm) and a pilgrimage (hajj) to Mecca (atleast once).
But arent Muslim women oppressed? Why must she cover? Why are they taught to cover?
But how exactly is covering yourself oppression? Some cover their faces, some cover only mostly, but no one has forced them to do so. In Islam, covering is recommended and highly suggested as your body is not to be shown off because it is not who you ARE- however Muslim women (in most countries) are not forced to cover. Does that mean oppression doesn’t exist? Of course not. But oppression is a HUGE sin in Islam.
“I was one day sitting in an air craft a few years ago. There was a man who sat next to me, and he looked at me. He doesn’t know me, he doesn’t know anything about me, and he told me 'you people oppress your women’. He started with no 'hello’ 'how are you’ or 'good morning’. So I looked at him and thought what should I tell this man? He wants to fight. He wants to debate. So you know he was looking in his wallet for something, so I looked at him and said, 'you are oppressing your money’. He said 'what do you mean?’. I said, 'the same thing you mean when you say we oppress our women. You are covering your money!’ He said 'no but this is because it’s money, it is valuable.’ I said ,'our women are also valuable’.”
“My hijab has nothing to do with oppression. It is a feminist statement. It’s a scarf that some women use to cover parts of their bodies, but you wouldn’t think so given the uproar it causes. For many men, and non hijabi women, this piece of fabric is the very epitomy of oppression. But in a world where a womans value is often reduced to her sexual allure, what could be more empowering than rejecting that notion? By covering up, we reject the message that women must be sexy, but not slutty; stick thin, but still curvy; youthful, but all natural. It’s a market that pressures women to try to attain the unattainable. So why does the hijab seem to cause such offense? It’s not that it poses any real threats to progressive values, it’s because it resists the commercial imperatives that support consumer culture. Let me explain. Capitalism constructs women as both merchandise and consumers. Hijabi women don’t fit into that mold. Their presumed modesty is a direct contrast to more commercially viable images of women as clothes horses, sex symbols, and shopoholics. Now my concern with the hijab being unfairly portrayed as a symbol of oppression, is in no way a denial of the fact that some women are forced to wear it, and some women are oppressed. And yes, some may say theres nothing inherently liberating in covering up, just as some say theres nothing inherently liberating about wearing next to nothing. But the liberation lies in the choice. By assuming all veiled women are oppressed, we belittle the women that want to wear it. Even when women are vocal about wanting to wear the hijab, they are conveniently unheard, or silenced. The truth is, for many women, the hijab allows them to reclaim their bodies, and have full control over them. And that makes a lot of people uncomfortable.” -Hanna Yusuf
Now back to the overall treatment and respect given to women, men are taught to lower their gaze when in the presence of women as a sign of respect. And when a woman dresses modestly and keeps herself covered, not only is she owning her own body, but when she meets the person she is supposed to be with- he’s going to fall in love with her heart. Her mind. Her character. He will value all of the aspects of her that so many women put on display for anyones eyes.
Prior to Islam, a woman was considered a commodity. They used to buy and sell women. Someone owed another man money but didn’t have it? He’d give him his daughter. When Islam came, it abolished those ideals. It taught that a woman is a human being that needs to be respected and honored, and they must be looked after by the closest male relative. They must provide you with food, clothing, and accomodation. If the woman has her own money she has earned and wishes to use, that is her will. But no one can force her.  Women are also given the right to divorce if she is being oppressed or mistreated.
The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: “The best (Jihad) is (to speak) word of justice to an oppressive ruler.” Sunan of Abu-Dawood:2040
The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) once saw the corpse of a woman who had been killed in a military action, and he disapproved of it and forbade the killing of women and children.Abu Bakr as-Siddiq, a companion of the Prophet Muhammad and his successor as head of the Muslim community, advised one of his military commanders: “Do not kill women or children or an aged, infirm person. Do not cut down fruit-bearing trees. Do not destroy an inhabited place.” Al-Muwatta:V21N9-10
The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said “(God) has revealed to me that you should adopt humility so that no one oppresses another.” Riyadh-us-Salaheen:1589

But what about ISIS? Aren’t Muslims.. Terrorists?
The ISIS do not represent Islam or any Muslim, because it’s totally un-Islamic. Because they’re killing innocent people. Because they are unjust. We must all unite together, and try to stop this group from Islam and damaging Muslims. Their actions do not represent the actions of the rightly guided companions. What they’re doing is inhumane- they abuse hearts and minds. They have no compassion. Islam promotes tolerance for women, and ISIS has no respect for them.  It is stressed in the Quran that a nation remains balanced, and people do not practice extremist ideals. How can ISIS be Islamic, if they go against the every book of Islam itself? Muhammads life was an example of moderation based on revelation. And Muhammad said that those who do not follow his example of living- are not true followers of him. Hence, they would not be following the word of Allah- which would make them non Muslims. Compare the actions of ISIS to the Qur’an and it is clear ISIS can’t represent any form of Islam.
Since ISIS emerged on the scene last year, Muslims worldwide have been bombarded with the claim that this terrorist group represents an interpretation of Islam “as legitimate as any.” Therefore, the argument goes, it is proof that Islam is inherently violent and we must do anything and everything to stop Islam from spreading. Some extremist politicians like Geert Wilders want to ban the Qur’an altogether. Some extremist anti-theists like Ayaan Hirsi Ali want to militarily crush all Islam. Some extremist new atheists like Sam Harris argue in defense of horrific torture and pre-emptive nuclear strike on Muslim majority nations. Then there are also Islamophobic politicians like Bobby Jindal of Louisiana and Molly White of Texas who perpetuate “no go zone” myths and promote “anti-Shariah” laws, respectively. Unfortunately demonizing Islam is big business nowadays. Anti-Islam extremists also claim that while the Qur’an contains some peaceful verses revealed in Mecca, they are abrogated by the allegedly violent verses revealed later in Medina — thus making Islam inherently violent. The two groups that believe this to be true are — ironically — ISIS terrorists and anti-Islam extremists. Islam is defined first by the whole Qur’an, then by the Sunnah (or actions of Prophet Muhammad), and finally by the ahadith (or sayings of Prophet Muhammad) — in that order. Prophet Muhammad himself commanded Muslims to maintain the Qur’an as the primary and final authority on all things Islamic. And while the Sunnah and ahadith do not validate any act of ISIS, the above rule is critical. Terrorists and anti-Islam extremists often twist ahadith in an attempt to validate ISIS while shamelessly ignoring the Qur’an and the aforementioned rule of Islamic jurisprudence. Compare the actions of ISIS to the Qur’an, and it becomes clear ISIS cannot possibly represent any form of Islam taught by the Qur’an and Prophet Muhammad. The following three verses of the Qur’an alone demonstrate this fact.

1. Qur’an 22:40: “Permission to fight is given to those against whom war is made, because they have been wronged.”

This verse, revealed in Medina, is the very first time the Qur’an ever addressed fighting. And the very first thing God declares is that fighting is permitted only for those against whom war is made. This requires no deep interpretation or verbal gymnastics. Pre-emptive war is categorically un-Islamic. Meanwhile, ISIS continues to wage pre-emptive war by conquering sovereign lands and killing journalists, non-combatants, civilians, and doctors. These are all acts specifically forbidden by Islam’s detailed rules of war.
But what does it mean to “have been wronged” and therefore given permission to fight in self-defense? Lest some twisted minds think they get to decide what it means to “have been wronged,” the Qur’an’s very next verse defines exactly that.

2. Qur’an 22:41: “Those who have been driven out from their homes unjustly only because they said, ‘Our Lord is God’ — And if God did not repel some men by means of others, there would surely have been pulled down cloisters and churches and synagogues and mosques, wherein the name of God is oft commemorated.”

Thus, the Qur’an defines “have been wronged,” as a person who has met two more conditions. The first: one who has been unjustly driven from his own home. The second: being driven out on account of faith. This verse was also revealed in Medina. In Mecca the Muslims sought permission to fight back and defend themselves from attack and persecution. Prophet Muhammad’s reply was simple and unwavering, “I have not been given permission to fight. I have been admonished to remain patient.” History records this. Despite facing brutal persecution, economic and social boycott to the point of starvation, and murder — all on account of their faith — the Muslims never raised a finger in Mecca. Instead, they first waited in patience and were unjustly driven out to Medina by the violent Meccans. ISIS has unjustly driven out thousands of innocent Muslims, Christians, and Yazidis on account of their faith — acts that align them with the violent Meccans.
The latter part of this verse imposes a fourth condition before granting permission to fight in self-defense — that is, Muslims must fight to protect universal freedom of conscience. Otherwise, war is un-Islamic. Every subsequent Qur’anic verse on “combatting disbelievers” is read in light of the above criteria — fighting without having met those violates the Qur’an. ISIS terrorists have not fulfilled a single one of these criteria. Thus, ISIS’s every act contradicts Islam.
3. Qur’an 2:257: “There shall be no compulsion in religion.”
God revealed this verse near the end of Prophet Muhammad’s ministry, in Medina, after he peacefully retook Mecca and became the de facto ruler of all of Arabia. At a time when Prophet Muhammad could have forced anyone to become Muslim or suffer the sword, he did exactly the opposite. The Qur’an categorically condemns any form of religious compulsion and ensures universal freedom of conscience remains free for people of all faiths and no faith. In fact, the verse following 2:257 further clarifies that those who still reject God can only be punished by God — no human being has that right.
ISIS, meanwhile, uses weapons to force people to submit to its beliefs. This is in total contradiction to Islam and Prophet Muhammad. But none of this is new. His Holiness the Khalifa of Islam Mirza Masroor Ahmad has loudly declared multiple times, “The actions and statements of ISIS and other extremists who pretend to represent Islam, whilst all the while spreading hatred and violence, run entirely contrary to the peaceful teachings of Islam.”

The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: “Religion is very easy, and whoever overburdens himself in his religion will not be able to continue in that way. So you should not be extremists, but try to be near to perfection and receive the good tidings that you will be rewarded.” Bukhari:V1N38 (ISIS)
The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) once told his wife: “Avoid Cruelty and injustice..and guard yourselves against miserliness, for this has ruined nations who lived before you.” Riyadh-us-Salaheen:203

But aren’t you worried about people judging you?
To put it simply, no. I am not. Initially I was, but the more I learned about Islam and educated myself on what it promotes and teaches, the less I cared about what others would think. Because this is about becoming the best me I can be, for the one who created me, whoever 'he’ may be. This is about making choices that will better myself, and build my character as someone who can inspire and be admired. This is about me finally feeling at peace inside. And others opinions of me are not something that will cause me to stray for something that I was meant to be led to. Because I know who I am, and I know what I believe. And that is what is important. So people can say what they want, they can believe what they want about Muslims, they can believe what they want about me. But I know who I am, and God knows who I am.

Essentially I’ve written this in order to clear up some misconceptions you may have about Islam initially, and ask you to discover Islam for what it really is.. not a he said she said debate, or what you hear on the TV or radio. From the real sources. Less hating, more educating.
But mainly I am sending you this because I feel it is time to share with you my journey with my spirituality as I am now progressing further into it, and you are a very important person in my life and I’d like you to know what’s going on. I am very surprised that Islam has touched my heart so deeply.. but at the end of the day, I am happy. And I feel like I am at peace and at home in this religion. I have met so many loving and supportive people within the faith, and it’s a really incredible feeling to feel like I have found my place and a community I belong in. This is my choice, and I hope I have your support and understanding in my decision. Yesterday I walked to the Masjid (Mosque) right outside the neighborhood (I’m sure you’ve seen it), and went to say my shahada. It was a very moving experience for me- and unbelievably surreal as I knew it would be. Everyone was so welcoming to me, and I was amazed to see everyone who was a witness begin to cry as I spoke. They all told me how brave I was, and how much they admired my courage. I shared with them my journey thus far, and they all listened intently to everything I said. What really touched me the most is how happy they were to have me. I think I made their day as much as they made mine. And as far as the scarves I bought- yes they are hijabs. I am comfortable wearing them in public- and it’s something I’d like to choose to do for me, as well as dressing modestly. Which I am also hoping you will be okay with (me wearing hijab out and about). I won’t bother wearing them to work however as I don’t want to cause any issues as I’m sure you can understand. I will wait to wear  hijab full time until I get back to Swansea after summer. I really hope I can have you support in this, as you are so important to me, and the most important male that is and ever will be in my life. Just know that I am so happy, and this is what is best for me. I love you.

As much as you enjoyed waking up to a sleeping pup, the feeling of wanting to wake up to someone else crept up on you, the desire of having someone else with you. Why the sudden urge?

“This week I will have Leo and ____ be in charged of cleaning the classroom.” Your teacher announced Monday morning before she began the lesson. You flinched when you heard your name in the same sentence as Leo’s. You turned to give him a glance just to find his eyes already on you. When he noticed you looking, he quickly looked away.  You turned away too, blush spreading over you cheeks. You both sat on the same row of tables but in different columns, you sat right in front of the board, of the far left and had to turn your way to look at the board. He had an excuse to ‘look at you’ even though he probably was looking at the board. But you didn’t have an excuse to look at him, or in his direction. Your heart pounded.

You and Leo do talk to each other, but not on a regular basis. Every time you two did talk, it would either be because of class work or he had a compliment for you. The conversations never lasted longer than 5 minutes, but that was enough to make you smile like an idiot for the entire day, until of course you see some other girl flirting with him. You felt like an idiot yourself, he probably complimented every other girl the same way he did with you. Why? Because he was capable of getting compliments from any, if not every girl in the school. He was cute and that bit knew it.
