how many can there possibly be

anonymous asked:

Ok I really love spotty connections but I had a question. Why did you have Chloe kiss Marinette? Why does Marinette have to be bi if she's just gonna be with Adrien?

Because bisexuality is a real thing, and there’s no need to erase it from Marinette’s life in this story. Yes, Marinette might end up with Adrien in the future, but her bisexuality is as much a part of her now as it was in her past. If she gets together with Adrien, she will still be bisexual. When she was sixteen and kissed Chloe, she was still bisexual.

I put it in to show that Marinette can still be a queer character and still be with Adrien. I think it’s something that this fandom has a hard time understanding, and I want to show how easy it is.

So many people think that the Love Square isn’t possible if Marinette or Adrien are queer, but I’m putting this out there to say yeah, they can be queer and happy and together.

And it doesn’t hurt to contribute to queer content that this fandom needs more of in my own little, little way.

There are so many people on this website who agree with what happened in Charlottesville. Its scary how so many people think backwards.

It is.

Though, I’m not sure what’s more scary.

Racist bigots out in plain sight, making their opinions known that you can fight and be conscious of…

Or

… The secret bigots. The ones who are your neighbors, your co-workers. The ones who are just slipping around unknown. Hiring and firing people interacting and possibly hurting people, all for horrible reasons.

anonymous asked:

hihihi how do you write an essay on the theme of a book? thanks ♥️

Hi! You have to make the theme of the book into a statement which you can follow through the essay. For instance, “what is the role that relationships play in Game of Thrones?”, “to what extent does the characterisation of ‘the outsider’ impact Game of Thrones?” or “how does the conflict between duty, love and honour come into play throughout ‘Game of Thrones?”. Obviously, books can cover many things but going with the main ideas helps you to get as much information possible. You can then create small paragraph ideas that fit into that statement. For instance, in “what is the role that relationships play in Game of Thrones?” you can mention the different barriers and supports which these relationships play. In “to what extent does the characterisation of ‘the outsider’ impact Game of Thrones?”, you can mention about the dialogue choices and descriptions of particular people to show how ‘the outsider’ persona is created and upheld. I hope this helps x

Any sexual minority is part of the lgbtq+ community, hence the + it's unfortunate people can't seem to understand that

Unfortunately, some people under the LGBT community don’t understand unity and tolerance yet hate when they’re the ones being oppressed. It’s like how gay men act as if they’re the only minority and how lesbians pretend trans people don’t exist. None of it makes sense but all we can do is make as many places as safe as possible for these smaller known minorities. sjw’s don’t change their opinions over night and many enjoy thinking they’re special for their ‘quirky’ opinions.

Even if I can understand why people are reacting this way, it’s still quite easy to accept that other LGBT folk want to help the even smaller minorities even tho they may not be as ‘oppressed’. We all face discrimination and we shouldn’t close other minorities off because they’ve never been systematically stoned to death. I mean people who are trans, gay and bi argue about who is more oppressed and it’s like????the same people hate us all. We are you hating each other on top of that? 😧

I don’t think people are ever gonna understand because let’s face it some of these blogs like being the centre of attention and being seen as 'special’ and as the 'victim’ and God forbid another minority group complains. It’s like when gay white men try and shut black women up.

Stop picking on other minorities and stand together maybe?

Do you have any ideas as to what Papa IV and the new ghouls will look like?

I have NO idea. There are so many possibilities and pair that with how much research I know Toblerone does, that I can’t surmise a concept.

The only thing on my wish list for Papa IV is a Mantum. It’s not practical for performing, like at all, but can you just imagine how extra it would look to see him arriving in that and taking it off before performing?

As for the ghouls, whom I have the same uncertainties for, the only thing on my wishlist is a mask that keeps the horns. I really like the horns lol OH! and if somehow the new masks have the feeling of seeing a medieval depiction of a devil I think I’ll be happy.

Taako: Alright, from now on, we will be using code names. You can address me as “Eagle One”.

Taako: It was the wrong two seconds, my dude.

yungtsundere  asked:

Love your trans peter post! My head cannon is steve being trans. Back in the day, he was short and small like peter. How quick to violence people were with poor 1900's steve. The real reason he couldn't get into the army was because what was on his birth certificate. When Bucky told him to 'sell bonds/manufacture' instead of enlist, those were woman's jobs back then. The doctor hooked him up with the super soldier experiment, adding in extra procedures.

damn u right!! but okay- I’ve actually been meaning to talk about my trans Steve headcanon for quite some time now, so I’m just gonna info-dump a bunch of trans history and MCU interpretations right here. SO:

First of all, the setup of Steve Rogers as a short, scrawny boy who’s bullied and beat up all the time fits easily with how a trans man in the 1940s might have lived. This scene from Captain America: The First Avenger (2011) honestly looks like that cliche trans art trope where it’s like: “trans person looks in the mirror and their reflection is the right gender”. you know the one.

Later in that same scene, Bucky outright says that the reason he thinks Steve is joining the war is to “prove himself.” You could totally interpret this as Steve trying to shove himself into the absolute most masculine role in his society in order to reaffirm his own gender identity.

Bucky is also incredibly worried about the consequences Steve will face if he is “discovered falsifying enlistment documents”. If you headcanon Steve as a trans man, this adds new depth to the stakes. Instead of lying about his respiratory issues and hometown, Steve would be lying about his sex assigned at birth. Which, given the state of the US in 1943, would’ve had even harsher punishment.

It’s also interesting that Dr. Abraham Erskine (the man who accepts Steve into the military) is a German scientist. In the early 1900s, the Germans were at the forefront of medical treatment for trans people. The first clinic to treat transgender people (Magnus Hirschfeld’s ‘Institute for Sexology’) opened in Germany in 1919. But as the Nazis came to power in the 1930s, many of the German scientists at this clinic migrated to the US to treat the trans people here.

Steve is recruited by Dr. Abraham Erskine in 1943, which would be congruent with the time the German scientists from the ‘Institute for Sexology’ immigrated to the US. So, to clarify: a German-American doctor spends his life researching and creating a serum that instantly masculinized Steve via intra-muscular injection. I would like to point out that for trans men, testosterone is administered the same way. Also, this timeline just so happens to line up with a key point in the history of transgender medical treatment. Huh. Interesting.

In addition, the following quote by Dr. Abraham Erskine can easily lend itself to a discussion on transmasculinity:

“…the strong man who has known power all his life, may lose respect for that power, but a weak man knows the value of strength, and knows… compassion.”

and– hey, I just wanna point out the… interesting parallel… between the flag pole scene in Captain America: The First Avenger (2011)

and the arrow scene in Mulan (1998)

…like wow… okay. there’s actually a lot of parallels between these two movies, (except in Mulan the protagonist enters the ‘male’ gender role out of necessity whereas Steve does so by desire, differentiating between a cross-dresser and a trans man) but I won’t go there today. nope.

Then the introduction of Peggy Carter leads Steve to question his existing perceptions of gender roles. He admits that “I guess I just don’t know why you’d join the army if you were… a woman” which, under this trans interpretation, could be Steve projecting his own relationship with gendered aspirations onto Peggy.

And god, that’s not even delving into how easily his ‘transformation sequence’ could fall into a trans narrative.

In the second act of the film when a woman hits on him, Steve responds with visible discomfort. When he first realizes that she’s hitting on him, his immediate reaction is to cover his chest.

The First Avenger mentions Steve’s lack of romantic/sexual experience many times throughout the film. Steve passes it off as ‘not having found the right partner yet’ but hypothetically– if he were a trans man, that could be another reason for his fear of sexual intimacy. If he’s #stealth and passing as male, then any form of sexual intimacy could risk his reputation and his ability to remain in the military.

Oh, and did I mention? Statistically speaking, approximately 20% of the US transgender population serves (or has served) in the military. This is over double the rate of the cisgender population. So, tbh, it’s not unrealistic to have a trans character so adamant about enlistment, patriotism, or military life.

Anyways, yeah- Captain America’s story (especially in the MCU) definitely lends itself to an interpretation of Steve Rogers as a trans man.

tori-ayne  asked:

Did you see Wonder Woman? The fighting that the Amazons did was extremely choreographic and really beautiful to watch for a plebeian like me, but did it seem grounded in reality?

There’s nothing about Wonder Woman that’s grounded in reality. This is an intentional design decision and, to be fair, the likes of Atomic Blonde and Haywire aren’t either. In Haywire’s case, it’s because what makes for a good MMA fight is about as far from SpecOps as you can get.

The combat seen in Wonder Woman is stylistically designed to be superhuman because Diana and the Amazons are superhuman. They’re immortal, godlike beings who live on a paradise island hidden from the rest of the world. Their combat style and choreography emphasizes that aspect of their characters. It’s part of the visual storytelling ongoing to show us who and what they are.

Wonder Woman is the sort of archetypal character meant to inspire, who we look up at in wonder, who inspires us to be better, and to believe in ourselves.

The combat isn’t grounding in reality and it doesn’t need to be. In reality, we can’t reflect bullets with gauntlets and walking across No Man’s Land with just a shield would just lead to Diana’s legs being shot out from under her by a gatling gun. Realism isn’t the point of the movie though. Besides that, Wonder Woman is no more realistic than Captain America fighting Nazis with a shield or Batman doing whatever Batman does in the Dark Knight. Or Athena kicking Ares keister in the Illiad.

Wonder Woman walking into the No Man’s Land is thematic not realistic, and that’s the same for the movie’s fight choreography. Hear it: Wonder Woman walks into No Man’s Land. You don’t even need the visual to feel a sense of awe. This woman walking where soldiers are scared to go.

This is archetypal, mythic storytelling with mythic heroes.

The problem is that “grounded in reality” has become the new version of “believable” or “suspension of disbelief” or “relateable” except with much more restrictive rules. Usually because this justification is really “I don’t like it, therefore”. Used more often to shut down conversation than start it, because “realism” sounds more legitimate than personal preference or inherent bias. If you’re ever in a discussion with someone and they can’t elaborate on why it isn’t “realistic” with a genre that was never about realism anyway, then you can usually say this is why.

Realism as an argument gets brought up a lot with superheroes, and the idea that anything in the superhero genre (and this includes superspies) is real is laughable. It’s called “superhero fiction” for a reason, and DC’s heroes from the Gold and Silver Age are all archetypal, mythic heroes who are better than humanity and through which we find the best of ourselves.

What’s real are the emotions and beliefs Wonder Woman inspires in you, the sense of awe, the wonder, and the hope. To hope for and fight for a better future than the one we see before us. To inspire our dreams so we find the courage to chase them. To look up at the stars instead of down at our feet. To believe we’ll find victory so long as we keep getting up again. To remind us we can change the world.

Sometimes, we just need freedom reality’s constraints to find the best in ourselves. Inspire us to see who we could be, beyond what we’ve previously believed to be possible.

You know how many glorious scientific inventions we have because of science fiction? Like hoverboards from Back to the Future. Or flip phones from Star Trek. They weren’t grounded in reality either when they were imagined. There was only the possibility they might, maybe exist… someday.

When discussing anything creative try and remember this: no is not a shut down nor does it remove the idea’s value. Rather, any explanation on the subject is meant to help us gain a better understanding of the subject. The more we know then the more choices become available, and we’re able to pick the one best for us.

The choreographers, directors, and producers who put together the Amazon’s combat style are people who have a firm grasp of how combat is supposed to work both onscreen and off it. They chose this route because what we see on screen is representative of the themes they had in mind and the story they were trying to tell. It was intentional, not accidental. They knew what they wanted.

The point is don’t be discouraged from chasing after a feeling or a dream just because fiction is what inspired you. The difference between fantasy and reality is the will we have to take ourselves there.

Magnetospheres: How Do They Work?

The sun, Earth, and many other planets are surrounded by giant magnetic bubbles.

Space may seem empty, but it’s actually a dynamic place, dominated by invisible forces, including those created by magnetic fields.  Magnetospheres – the areas around planets and stars dominated by their magnetic fields – are found throughout our solar system. They deflect high-energy, charged particles called cosmic rays that are mostly spewed out by the sun, but can also come from interstellar space. Along with atmospheres, they help protect the planets’ surfaces from this harmful radiation.

It’s possible that Earth’s protective magnetosphere was essential for the development of conditions friendly to life, so finding magnetospheres around other planets is a big step toward determining if they could support life.

But not all magnetospheres are created equal – even in our own backyard, not all planets in our solar system have a magnetic field, and the ones we have observed are all surprisingly different.

Earth’s magnetosphere is created by the constantly moving molten metal inside Earth. This invisible “force field” around our planet has an ice cream cone-like shape, with a rounded front and a long, trailing tail that faces away from the sun. The magnetosphere is shaped that way because of the constant pressure from the solar wind and magnetic fields on the sun-facing side.

Earth’s magnetosphere deflects most charged particles away from our planet – but some do become trapped in the magnetic field and create auroras when they rain down into the atmosphere.

We have several missions that study Earth’s magnetosphere – including the Magnetospheric Multiscale mission, Van Allen Probes, and Time History of Events and Macroscale Interactions during Substorms (also known as THEMIS) – along with a host of other satellites that study other aspects of the sun-Earth connection.

Mercury, with a substantial iron-rich core, has a magnetic field that is only about 1% as strong as Earth’s. It is thought that the planet’s magnetosphere is stifled by the intense solar wind, limiting its strength, although even without this effect, it still would not be as strong as Earth’s. The MESSENGER satellite orbited Mercury from 2011 to 2015, helping us understand our tiny terrestrial neighbor.

After the sun, Jupiter has by far the biggest magnetosphere in our solar system – it stretches about 12 million miles from east to west, almost 15 times the width of the sun. (Earth’s, on the other hand, could easily fit inside the sun.) Jupiter does not have a molten metal core like Earth; instead, its magnetic field is created by a core of compressed liquid metallic hydrogen.

One of Jupiter’s moons, Io, has intense volcanic activity that spews particles into Jupiter’s magnetosphere. These particles create intense radiation belts and the large auroras around Jupiter’s poles.

Ganymede, Jupiter’s largest moon, also has its own magnetic field and magnetosphere – making it the only moon with one. Its weak field, nestled in Jupiter’s enormous shell, scarcely ruffles the planet’s magnetic field.

Our Juno mission orbits inside the Jovian magnetosphere sending back observations so we can better understand this region. Previous observations have been received from Pioneers 10 and 11, Voyagers 1 and 2, Ulysses, Galileo and Cassini in their flybys and orbits around Jupiter.

Saturn’s moon Enceladus transforms the shape of its magnetosphere. Active geysers on the moon’s south pole eject oxygen and water molecules into the space around the planet. These particles, much like Io’s volcanic emissions at Jupiter, generate the auroras around the planet’s poles. Our Cassini mission studies Saturn’s magnetic field and auroras, as well as its moon Enceladus.

Uranus’ magnetosphere wasn’t discovered until 1986 when data from Voyager 2’s flyby revealed weak, variable radio emissions. Uranus’ magnetic field and rotation axis are out of alignment by 59 degrees, unlike Earth’s, whose magnetic field and rotation axis differ by only 11 degrees. On top of that, the magnetic field axis does not go through the center of the planet, so the strength of the magnetic field varies dramatically across the surface. This misalignment also means that Uranus’ magnetotail – the part of the magnetosphere that trails away from the sun – is twisted into a long corkscrew.

Neptune’s magnetosphere is also tilted from its rotation axis, but only by 47. Just like on Uranus, Neptune’s magnetic field strength varies across the planet. This also means that auroras can be seen away from the planet’s poles – not just at high latitudes, like on Earth, Jupiter and Saturn.

Does Every Planet Have a Magnetosphere?

Neither Venus nor Mars have global magnetic fields, although the interaction of the solar wind with their atmospheres does produce what scientists call an “induced magnetosphere.” Around these planets, the atmosphere deflects the solar wind particles, causing the solar wind’s magnetic field to wrap around the planet in a shape similar to Earth’s magnetosphere.

What About Beyond Our Solar System?

Outside of our solar system, auroras, which indicate the presence of a magnetosphere, have been spotted on brown dwarfs – objects that are bigger than planets but smaller than stars.

There’s also evidence to suggest that some giant exoplanets have magnetospheres. As scientists now believe that Earth’s protective magnetosphere was essential for the development of conditions friendly to life, finding magnetospheres around exoplanets is a big step in finding habitable worlds.

The Bold Type is made up of nearly an entire female cast, one of the main characters being Kat, a black woman questioning her sexuality (and possible future relationship with an out and proud lesbian Muslim woman? Who even talks about why wearing a hijab is empowering seriously when have you ever seen that in television) The show explores so many amazing topics, among those being sexuality (specifically women’s sexuality and how you can own it), women supporting women within integral friendships that bring you up instead of tearing you down, rediscovering your career and what that means, I could seriously go on. This show is just so important and yet I’ve barely seen anyone on tumblr talk about. Everyone’s always going on about how they want more diverse shows, well here it is!! Go support it!! Life is a series of closing doors, isn’t it?

anonymous asked:

I was wondering, how much/many of your ideas should you reveal and create up front ad post online and how many should you keep to yourself as an artist? I have all these ideas for like, potential shows (im a student) that would function well as webcomics. But I'd like to be a board artist or show creator. Should I make those webcomics?

Here are your options:

Option 1: Hold onto your ideas

You hold onto your ideas until you can pitch them to executives, even though that may be years and years from now. So if you’re a student right now, that means you’re probably between 18-22. I didn’t get to pitch Infinity Train until I was 27, I didn’t get to make the pilot until I was 29. Now I’m 30 and I’m still waiting around for a possible greenlight. That is 3 years of my life waiting for other people to get moving so I can get moving. If your life goes like mine, that’s 7 years until you’ve made something. One thing. 7 years. How old were you 7 years ago and how many ideas have you had in those 7 years that could also be turned into things? YOU WILL NEVER RUN OUT OF IDEAS.

Something else to keep in mind, I was able to get moving on those ideas because I was working in the industry already, had contacts, and had started building a reputation. If you walk up the front of Nickelodeon or Disney or something and just knock on the door, they’re not going to listen to your pitch. So when will you have those contacts and reputation? How will you build those connections?

Well the first thing you do is start making and producing work. That means, ironically, you gotta start using those ideas you’re holding onto. Why would you expect anyone to want to help make your things if you’re not already making things? That brings me to…

Option 2: Make your ideas

If you don’t have work, then how are people finding out about you? They’re not. You’re not an artist if you’re not making work, you’re just a person with a bunch of thoughts. Lots of things have thoughts. Cows have thoughts. The thing with thoughts is that they’re NOT REAL. It’s all just up in your head. How are you different from any other person? Everybody has ideas, it’s making the idea into a reality that’s the accomplishment.

It’s tempting to not make things. If you make something, then that means it can be a failure and that other people can criticize it. If it remains a thought in your head, then no one can say anything bad about it and it’s just a perfect thing forever that only you know is perfect. You become the person that’s like “Then there’s this guy, he’s got like a sword, and he’s like SWUH! and it’s SO awesome!” and people go: “Wow that sounds fun!” and then you go: “Yeah, I’m gonna make it someday” and they go: “cool!” and then you sit around and waste your life and never make it because why would you? It’s perfect in your head! You already got the compliment from someone, you KNOW there would be fans and people would love it because the version you have in your head is so great! You don’t have to actually prove that it’s a viable idea or that you can even make it because you’ve already done it in your imagination.

Deep down though, you’ll know it’s not true, and it will just make you feel guilty, regretful, and jealous of people who DID actually make and follow through on their ideas. It poisons your soul, then you die, then your guts fertilize some plants which get eaten by a cow, which gets turned into a burger, which gets eaten by an actual artist and used as caloric energy to power their actual artist hands.

————-

I think the real question you should ask yourself is “would I rather see this thing exist than not exist?” Because the fact is, if you want the thing to exist, you have to make it, no one is going to suddenly knock on your door and beg you for your ideas. Don’t sit around and wait for a future that may never come, become an active participant in what you want your future to be.

As my friend Toby once angrily yelled into an empty street one day: “IDEAS ARE FUCKING INFINITE, JUST MAKE THE THING!”

  • but then you’d tell him it’s you he’s really relieved because he knew your voice!!
  • he’d gush about how you look so much like jumin
  • he’d tell you if jumin was a girl he’s gonna look so much like you
  • and that you are very beautiful
  • and you cough at his statements because didn’t he just indirectly admit that jumin is hot??
  • still sometimes he’d stare at you for hours
  • probably thinking w ow how is this what on earth why do you look so much like jumin
  • the poor boi would probably bug u several times “How come you look so much like him? Are you sure you’re not his relative?”
  • and youre like no yoosung i don’t even know him personally like ever except of course inside the messenger
  • he’d have mini heart attacks because your resting face is very much identical to jumin’s it’s almost s c a r y
  • it’s like jumin was indirectly telling him to do good or he’ll fail later in life
  • and he’d be 10 times more pressured than he already is
  • poor bby

Seven

  • ok so seven
  • already knew this
  • that’s why he was not very surprised though the extent of his stalking skills went as far as your first pet when you were 5
  • he’d often tease you about how you look so much like jumin and he’d take snapshots of you and send it to the fellow members inside the chatroom
  • of course everyone is very sh0okt

V

  • ok wow he is so precious he’d smile fondly while meeting you
  • because how can u look like his best bro

  • and he’s like o h
  • he’d be super embarrassed because how come u read his mind
  • was he that obvious??
  • still he’d love taking pictures of you
  • and he’s not the least crept out about how you look
  • he’s like you’re the most perfect canvas for him
  • but he also makes sure you’re not really related to jumin in anyway by doing background investigations about your origins
  • because what if, what if jumin was really like your brother or something
  • he’d feel bad if he just snagged you like that without asking jumin’s permission
  • he’d often take stolen shots of you because he wants to imprint your face in his life forever
  • you’d sometimes catch him smiling while looking at u
  • he’s pretty amused the entire time you’re with him
  • thank for putting a smile on his precious face

Don’t kiss me; I taste like shattered glass. My past isn’t your fault, but hell, if I don’t go out of my way to make it seem like that. I can’t help but feel like I’m failing you. Maybe we’re failing each other. Maybe we’re both failing, separately. I’m starting to accept the possibility that one day, I will hear love songs and think of someone that is not you. But you stain every chord of my favorite songs; it can’t fade.

It can’t fade.

It can’t fade.

The English language is shifty and inarticulate; love is too many things. I can’t tell if this is love, or if I just want it to be.

I don’t know how to make this okay.

I know you don’t know what to say.

Excellent! I will try not to disappoint my friend, but you have been warned hahahaha. Now onto the true matters! *opens a book labelled theories and madness and skips to an unspecified page* For my first official question, as we all know monsters exist within the Undertale universe some we have seen before (like undead) others we have not. My question first of all is this, do you believe that every type of monster exists from fairies to dragons within the universe and if so why don't we see em?

(undertale spoilers)

It’s impossible to say “every type of monster exists” in the game. Monsters of all shapes and sizes exist in many cultures and stories. However, considering Frisk does not get to explore the whole underground, Frisk has not encountered every possible monster. Consider how Frisk never reached New Home, which is described as a crowded capital.

Coincidentally, one of the monsters you mentioned is confirmed to live in New Home – a dragon.

There is another dragon in the game that appears much sooner – RG02.

The possibilities are endless when it comes to what type of monsters exist in the underground since Frisk is unable to meet them all.
