Stills from Mr. Sardonicus- a 1961 horror movie about a man whose face becomes frozen in a horrifying grin while robbing his father’s grave to obtain a winning lottery ticket. To achieve this grimace, Guy Rolfe was subjected to five hours at a time in the makeup artist’s chair. The facial fittings and glue were so painful to wear, that Rolfe said he could only stand an hour at a time filming scenes with the grin.
