Jakob: My flight just landed! I’ll see you soon!

Jakob had texted you, you were positive, as soon as the plane had touched down at Boston’s Logan airport. The Coyotes were in the middle of an Eastern Road Trip but had two days off before they played the Bruins.

And you were ecstatic. Your mom had moved to Arizona with your step dad and on one of your trips to visit it her, you had met Jakob. You had been sitting in the restaurant grumbling over a Bruins vs Toronto game when you had noticed the blonde smiling at you from the next table.

“Hockey fan?”

“Fan and player,” you had shrugged.

“You play?” The blonde’s eyes lit up.

“Yeah, for the Boston Pride!” You were extremely proud of your team and all that the girls did.

“No way,” he had laughed. “I play for the Coyotes.”

The two of you had continued to talk and eventually exchanged numbers. Pretty soon, your visits to Arizona weren’t just to see your mom anymore.

Jakob: I think I’m here.

Your phone lit up just as a knock came at the door.

“Coming!” You called. “Hey blondie,” you opened the door, a huge smile on your face.

Jakob dropped his carry on at his feet and swept you up in a hug. “God, I missed you.”

“Right back at you.” You hugged him closer. Once he had released you, he led you into your living room.

“Nice decorations,” he smirked. The apartment definitely had a “you” flare to it. You shoved him slightly. “So, I know you have a game tomorrow and everyone’s excited about it, but the team is going out to dinner tonight and I was especially told you had to be there.”

“What?” You laughed.

“Mike and Shane brought Brigette and Andrea with them and they’ve been badgering me for the past few days about meeting you,” Jakob brushed a piece of your hair out of your face.

“Really?” You weren’t nervous to meet the girls, you loved Mike and Shane, but it was surprising that they had asked to meet you.

“I guess I talk about you a lot and they finally want to meet the mystery woman, Jakob laughed. “Laws says its because they want proof you’re not fake.”

You laughed as Jakob started to turn red. “What time is dinner?”

“20 minutes,” Jakob said sheepishly.

“You should’ve told me earlier! I would’ve been ready by now.”

“I didn’t want you stressing or anything,” Jakob admitted.

“I’ll get changed fast then,” you shook your head lightly, turning towards your bedroom.

“Wait,” Jakob grabbed your arm, pulling you back to him and kissing you. “Now you can go change,” he smiled as he lifted his head.

15 minute later and you were at the restaurant.

“(Y/N)!” You turned to where you had heard your name come from and saw Lawson Crouse running towards you. He hugged you quickly. “All I’m saying is I want a shirt with your name on it for tomorrow night’s game.”

“i can get that,” you smiled. It meant a lot to you that the entire team had decided to come to the Pride’s game to support you and the other girls.

“Oh there’s Mike and the rest,” Jakob pointed out.

You pulled your dress down quickly, butterflies erupting in your stomach. You weren’t nervous to meet them, you were just nervous about making them like you enough.

“You’re fine,” Jakob grabbed your fidgeting hand. He pressed a kiss to your temple before turning towards the two couples. ‘Hey guys! Andrea, Brigette, this is (Y/N).”

“She is real!” Brigette playfully gasped. Jakob rolled his eyes.

“C’mon guys!” He said indignantly.

“Are you positive he didn’t pay you?” Andrea winked at you. You let out a laugh.

“She’s way too pretty for Jakob. He’s definitely paying her,” Brigette agreed. You blushed, the compliment melting away the last of your worries.

“Nah, I really am dating him,” you shrugged. “But he does have to pay for dinner all the time,” you whispered back. The two girls laughed.

“It really is so nice to finally meet you,” Brigette said, hugging you.

“We’ve heard a lot about you,” Andrea agreed, hugging you as well.

“All good things I hope?”

“Absolutely!”

“Any girl that can make our little rookie happy is good in our books. And he never stops smiling when he’s talking about you.”

You looked over at Jakob whose face was towards the ground, bright red cheeks pulled up in a smile. “What? I really love you okay?” He nudged you side, causing you to laugh.

“I guess its a good thing you pay me enough to get me to love you back,” you joked causing the other women to laugh.

Jakob playfully shook his head at you before wrapping his arm around your shoulder and leading you towards the restaurant.

Monday 8:27am
I woke up with you on my mind.
You called me babe last night —
my heart is still pounding.

Tuesday 10:53pm
Today I realized we won’t work.
What we are is hurting her.
And I think she matters more to me than you do.

Wednesday 11:52pm
I broke things off with you today.
She barely said a word.
I’ve never regretted anything more than this.

Thursday 4:03pm
I shouldn’t have sent that message.
You shouldn’t have been so okay with receiving it.

Friday 9:57pm
I almost messaged you today.
I didn’t.

Saturday 8:49pm
I’m walking around town in search of alcohol.
They say that liquor numbs the pain of having a broken heart.
I want to put that to the test.

Sunday 2:32am
I heard you texted a girl you’ve never spoken to before.
I wonder if it’s because you’re trying to replace me.
I can’t help but wish you weren’t.
I thought I was irreplaceable.

—  a week with you on my mind, c.j.n.
Move on, leave, run away, escape this place… but don’t forget about me, about us, about this town. Always remember where you come from so you can appreciate how far you’ve come.
