Though named for their origins at Alabama’s Tuskegee Institute, the pilots of the famed 332nd Fighter Group actually completed final training at Walterboro Army Airfield. Over 500 African-American pilots faced discrimination and segregation while stationed here between April 1944 and October 1945.
