If all this was a work of fiction… the guys who go to nationals would be the protagonists, and the rest of us would just be extras. But, regardless… we got to play… volleyball.

cauthon  asked:

Natsume Yuujinchou for the fandom thing if you are still doing it! :)

Ohhh, that’s a fun one!!! Natsume Yuujinchou is actually the earliest series I got into that I’m still in the fandom for! I had read many other series before it, but those have mainly faded into obscurity for me XD

How I entered/learned about the said game/show/movie/etc of that fandom: These days, I mostly read manga, and really only watch an anime if it’s an adaptation of a series I like (and sometimes not even then), or if it somehow manages to catch my attention because of friends or tumblr mutuals (like YOI). But when I was in my early teens, I was more into anime and was always looking for something new to watch. And one day, I was scrolling through crunchyroll, and Natsume Yuujinchou was on the front page, and I thought the premise sounded cool, so I decided to check it out, and I adored it. If I’m remembering correctly, there was only like one season out at the time. But I kinda forgot about it after a while. And the next time I remembered it, seasons 2 and 3 were out, and I quickly marathoned those. And I think that’s when I finally got into the manga.

Fave character:

One of the rare occasions in which the main character is actually my fav. I mean, don’t get me wrong, I absolutely ADORE Tsuna and Luffy and Yuuri and the other main characters in my other fandoms, but I tend to usually gravitate towards the misunderstood, hurting characters who like to hide their emotions behind a prickly outer shell (or, in JJ’s case, arrogance and obnoxiousness). And in Natsume Yuujinchou, that just so happens to be the main character XD Natsume is just so sweet and caring and amazing, but he’s just been hurt so much in the past by the people who were supposed to care for him, and now he’s just so aloof and always hiding behind a smile, and my heart hurts for him. But something I really adore about this series is that all the worst parts are in Natsume’s past. He has foster parents who adore him now, and a group of friends who would go to the ends of the Earth for him, and an older brother figure who sometimes might do questionable things, but ultimately has Natsume’s best interests at heart.

I mean yeah, sometimes he gets caught up in dangerous situations, but everything turns out okay in the end, and there’s no real source of misery in his life, no world-ending danger, and I rather like that.

Least fave character:

See, I feel really torn about this handsome fucker. Like. He’s shady and rood and does so many questionable things. But at the same time…he never actually does anything outright malicious? And that episode about Natori’s past with him only further served to confuse me. Don’t get me wrong, I always get super excited whenever he shows up, because that means things are going to get interesting, and Natsume’s probably going to meet other exorcists which I always love. But at the same time, I kinda resent him because of how he’s always manipulating others, even if it is “for the greater good”. He’s a really iffy character, but I don’t despise him the way I do Akainu and Iemitsu and Oikawa, so I guess that’s a good sign, if he’s the one I like least in the series. Everyone else in Natsume Yuujinchou is really likable, and even with the youkai that attack Natsume, it’s never anything personal, you know what I mean? He has something they want, and that’s it.

OTP(s): ShigeruxTouko aka BEST FOSTER PARENTS EVER.

Their marriage is absolute perfection and they adore each other and I love them so much. I don’t have many other ships in the series though. I mean, I find TanumaxTaki kinda cute, and NishimuraxKitamoto is also a sweet pairing. And if it has a cute enough premise, I rather like Tanuma x Natsume as well, and I’ve also written for Natsume x Nyanko-sensei in the past, though I don’t really ship that one anymore. I’m just kinda meh with the pairings in this series. I would conceivably be okay with any combination of Natsume’s main group of friends, except possibly anything with Sasada.

Pairing that everyone likes but I don’t get: NatorixNatsume. I can kinda see where y’all are coming from, but I personally don’t really like it much. I just don’t see any chemistry there, and really just prefer a sibling relationship between them.

Fave thing about the fandom: I love the surreal, dreamlike quality of the series. Even in the height of battle, there’s just this kind of relaxed atmosphere that is so soothing, and I love it. The town Natsume lives in is just so beautiful, and that also helps lend to the atmosphere of surrealism. The entire town has this kind of nostalgic feel, that reminds me of the quiet, sunny summers of my childhood. Slice-of-life at its finest.

The most despised thing: The way Natsume’s relatives treated him when he was younger. It was canonically confirmed that he was both physically abused, and neglected, and my heart is broken for him. This poor boy did nothing wrong. He never knew his mother, and then he lost his father as a young child, and instead of being consoled, people just kept adding and adding to his hurt, and I’m so sad???

If there is something I would change from said game/show/movie/etc., what would it be: Honestly, I have no clue. I personally think the series is perfect the way it is. I am sad at how Natsume’s relatives treated him, but it was necessary for his character development, and it makes sense. I understand why they acted the way they did, even if I don’t approve. I would like to learn more about Reiko, and about Natsume’s mysterious grandfather who may or may not still be alive. Imagine the plot twist if he were the head of one of the exorcist clans??? That would be fascinating.

Oh! But now I think about it, there is one thing I might change. I think it would have been really cool if the Fujiwaras had a biological child. It would be an interesting source of conflict, because any child would be at least a little jealous having to share their parents’ affections with some random stranger. But it would also be beautiful to see Natsume’s relationship with his foster sibling grow and get stronger. Whether they knew about Natsume’s abilities or not, it’d be fascinating, and I’ve been wanting to write a fic for that for a while now.

Yamamoto Takeshi and Gokudera Hayato’s relationship

One of the most misunderstood factors in KHR (of which there are…………..many) is the dynamic between Yamamoto and Gokudera. I don’t think a lot of people actually pay attention to Yamamoto, because he’s not as emotionally volatile like the rest of the cast, but there is very clearly a structured dynamic between them.

And that dynamic is a complete disgust with each other’s core personality

I actually wanted to ask this question all my fav three theory blogs and you're one of them so I just hope the other two will maybe see this because I know they follow you haha. So his past self is hauting him, but what do you actually think about Kaneki inside of Haise's mind?Hallucinations etc. ? What is little Shironeki?

One of your three fav theory blogs? My little blog?? //////////// You flatter me anon ♥

I think the little Shironeki (I’ll call him Chibishiro to distinguish between the other ‘neki’s) inside of Haise’s mind is part of his hallucinations, not a separate entity with ulterior motives. TG:re has a lot of parallels with TG, and one of the current ones is how Kaneki/Haise has to accept a part of themselves they initially refuse to see. For Kaneki it was his new nature as a ghoul (represented by Rize),

(Ch26, Ch63, TwistedHel Scans)

while for Haise in TG:re it’s his memories of his past self, both the good and bad (represented by Chibishiro).

(TG:re Ch6, 31, 44 Imperial Scans)

Back in TG Kaneki “ate” Rize, symbolically accepting his ghoul half and internalizing Rize’s worldview. However in the last chapters Kaneki realized that instead of “eating” he had been “eaten,” his motive to protect everyone twisted around until he lost sight of what was important and hurt the very people he wanted to protect. In Ch140 he admits even his desire to protect came from his selfishness and fear of being left alone. He breaks down crying, apologizing for not being able to protect the little boy he once was from loneliness and loss.

Honestly, I could go on about V14 and Ch140 forever. I find Kuroneki’s choice of words very interesting here. Shironeki has “saved” Kuroneki countless times, but it’s almost with an air of inevitability they ended up in their situation in this scene. Now back to TG:re and Chibishiro.

(TG:re Ch32 Imperial Scans)

Chibishiro was being very cryptic here with his talk of the caterpillar fungus but I want to focus on this panel. In Japanese the words he used (translated literally) were “There is no way you can continue to live while carrying me 君が僕を抱えたまま生きていけるわけがない.” I feel like rather than being threatening, Chibishiro was trying to warn Haise. Isn’t what Haise is doing right now - protecting the Quinx squad and his make-believe family, Akira’s advice on how you had to be strong in order to protect those closest to you - heading down the same path as the past Kaneki? As long as Kaneki/Haise feared loss and wanted to save/protect that vulnerable side of him, it would not end well for his sanity or those around him.

But Haise is not the same person as he was as Kaneki. He’s matured, become more social and expressive, and better able to understand the person behind Takatsuki Sen’s pen. Instead of Rize whispering in his ear and twisting his thoughts, Haise is taking the initiative in finding out more about Chibishiro/Kaneki Ken. That I feel is the biggest difference between Kaneki Ken and Sasaki Haise. This time it’s not going to be about “eating” and conquering an inner darkness. This time it’s about understanding and accepting past choices, and becoming wiser for it.

I don’t think Haise or Kaneki is going to disappear. I believe their memories/experiences will merge to become someone that is both Haise and Kaneki, and with knowledge of the past he will be able to find a way out of the tragedy of their world.

Aaah, I got carried away and it’s much longer than expected. I was thinking this up and writing at 5am, so apologies if I’m rambling or things are hard to understand!

So, naruto next gen IS going to be unoriginal. Hm. Btw, since bolt's the new main chara shouldn't his look be more...unique?

I’m still blown away by the lack of creativity of this next gen. After recyclying everything we liked about our favs to make tasteless new kids, now we take back the first important villain who evolved (rightly or not) quite a lot in the last arc, And yet we’re back with him having the exact same role than he used to in the manga when he first appeared. Just.. *facepalm*

(Also if Orochimaru wants the Sharingan, I’m afraid they will probably try to treat Sarada as a Damsell in Distress. y'know like they did with Hinata. To develop a romance.) (of course this part is only supposition of my part).

As for Bolt, nah. The idea is to make a cheap rip off of what worked in the early time without the mistake of developping the two main boys’s bond by mixing Sakura and Sasuke together to create another tasteless character who’s at least female.

So nah. They need to stick even more to what we loved y'know. we loved Naruto. so we’re gonna give Bolt exactly everything we loved about Naruto (hE DOESN’T EVEN HAVE THE BYAKUUGAN JUST SO HE WOULD LOOK LIKE HIM MORE)

The next gen isn’t a continuation of a story, it is a rip off of the main story.

I’m totally against “stories about the kids” when it comes to series, films or books. Because mostly it’s always the same, they just go throught almost exactly the same things as their parents, and since they are the kids of their parents they would mostly have the same attitude. They don’t try to be original or whatever, at least most of the time.

But then, “to their credits” (mind the “”), it was hard to be original when the parents defeated a freaking Goddess.

The bigger is the Final Boss of the Original Serie, the harder it is to actually manage to make a challenge for the kids. How do you top the Goddess of Chakra?

The ideas could have been to try to go on an original story. And I’m still hitting my head against the wall seeing my personal all fav possible continuation in term of “who could be the next villain” had never even been thought about by the writers.  They could also dare creating an entire new villain without thinking about the previous ones we got, which would at least make it less of a catastroph.

Or they could just rip off what made the first serie popular.

Orochimaru being probably the villain who marked our generation (as much as the Akatsuki, Danzou and Madara were amazing villains (no comments on Kaguya), this is Orochimaru most of the people who grew up with Naruto remembers as the main villain of the serie.), forcing him back to the person he was the first time we saw him shows a lack of creativity which just will make you roll your eyes.

(By the way, why would BOLT be the star of a movie against OROCHIMARU? I mean, unlike Naruto and Sasuke back then, BOLT AND SARADA BOTH HAVE THEIR PARENTS? and most importantly, parents who already fought Orochimaru, Sasuke even absorbed and resurected Orochimaru. Why would a story with Orochimaru as a villain would have Bolt as a hero if not for lazy rip off? Couldn’t their parents take care of it or would they be “nah, I’m retired man, you deal with the life or dead situation I dealt with, aren’t you a ninja after all”?)

The thing is that they are trying to recreate the chemistry we had with the characters when we first meet them, with just a rushed copy of those characters. But even by that point of view, it doesn’t work.

Because the parents have a different background that the kids ;Most of the characters we love the most suffered from the loss of their parents in some way or another. By making the kids having the exact same personality as their parents, they forget that the personallity their parents had was because of their lack of family, which doens’t work since the kids have a family who apparently love them.

Therefore, some actions that were valid from the Original Characters POV (ex: Naruto wanting attention because he was an orphan and was hated without understanding why by the whole village) becomes totally invalid when their kids do the same thing because it woud make them look like their parents (ex: Bolt, who has both of his parents and a sister, is probably loved by the villagers at least the people Naruto is close to, and his privileges as the son of the Hokage and of the Heiress of the most powerful Clan of the village.)

So not only will they not be original with Bolt by keeping his chara design/personality close from his dad, but they will make a blant character because they are forcing on him a storyline that doesn’t give the same result on our appreciation of the character because of the difference of background between the Original Character and the Rip Off.

The next gen is well ready to be an imminant failure and I’m already celebrating.

I really want to cry. Because when the fandom say "Toei fucked up the 1 & 2 season", "they don't know how to draw them properly, "Toei realized they fucked up because of the poor ratings and blu ray sales " or whatever false nonsense they're thinking is true. They don't know Crystal and Toei's situation as much as we do. I thought everyone's mature enough to understand but I was wrong. They act they know everything, thinking better than Toei. Why can't they understand like we do?

I feel you.

Anyway, for starters, I respect TOEI and all the people who work for Crystal. I THANK them for working to give us Crystal.

And I respect everybody’s tastes.

People act like if the flaws in SMC1-2 were because of the character design; I think the character design was beautiful and unique, a perfect connection between a new anime and the old manga (Yukie Sako’s took a lot of elements from Naoko Takeuchi). Unfortunately, probably because of budget, SMC1-2 had a lot of flaws in animation: if animated properly, the past character design would have been beautiful because of the attention of small details (lips, hair, skirts… details counts!!!!).

It seems a lot of people have fallen in love with the new style, and it’s ironic because the new style is mostly the past style but bubbled and simplified: the new style is the old style minus the elements Yukie took from the manga. The irony of it: I am realizing that people who like the new style the most are the same people who say, in their blogs, they dislike the manga (REALLY! They dislike Naoko Takeuchi’s style, so, of course, they couldn’t like glossy lips).

I think the audience that now like the new style is younger, fans of PreCure and probably not fans of Naoko Takeuchi’s style. (a part of the audience, at least, not everybody).

Ironic, since Crystal should be a faithful adaptation of Naoko Takeuchi’s work (plot and style). But probably TOEI decided to reach a wider audience with this style: for sure the new style is modern, cute and moe (something a lot of people like), but, to me, too generic and too moe, whereas the past style had a unique touch.

BUT, honestly, I am not concerned about Infinity. I mean, Infinity isn’t my fav arc and Haruka and Michiru aren’t my fav Senshi (I prefer the Inners). I am concerned when we’ll come to Dream, ‘cause Dream shows the Senshi in their Princess Form, so it needs an elegant touch and not a moe one!!! I WANT YUKIE SAKO FOR THE PRINCESSES!

Besides the character design, also the writers have changed, so, I confess, my only hope is that the new writers stop acting like the Sen/Shi romance never happened, especially when we’ll come to Dream, but I think I’ll be disappointed.

Back to the character design.

See, just changing the eyes (I enlarged the pupils and reduced the big white bubble), the mouth (smaller and with lips), the hair (no more bubbles), erasing that childish hand (so poorly elegant, for Michiru) and enhancing the color, you have a different result. Choose what you prefer and wonder what’s close the manga. Just a matter of taste, anyway, respecting everybody’s else taste.

I want this (but I don’t feel the new style enough elegant to do this without childish-fied everything, whereas the past could). But if some people prefer something more simple, without those models’ poses and fashioned dresses, it’s OK. :-)
