Independent Study! (help?)

I’m doing an Independent Study in my Fall semester!
(first semester of my senior year)

Problem is… I’m not sure what to do to improve my portfolio? I’ve got some ideas though!

I’m interested in:

  • User Interface
  • User Experience
  • Sketchnotes
  • Illustration
  • Creating Guides/Tutorials
  • Creating a system/set of something (I like branding, but I already have branding in my portfolio)

What I’m thinking so far:

  1. Sketch-note a booklet about design thinking
  2. A website that’s kind of like an online story (interactive storybook where clicking takes you to different places)
  3. Series of tutorials (over the programs maybe? And possibly interactive?)
  4. Zine of something (not sure what)
  5. Card set with a web/booklet format to support it
  6. A typography guide
  7. Icon set for each letter of the alphabet
  8. A guide for my Business of Design class that I’m taking right now (it’s a pretty dry lecture class at the moment, so a fillable paper guide to help students get through it.
  9. A visual guide on a program (Photoshop or Illustrator, not sure which)

Any of these sound TOO COOL to pass up or does anyone else have any ideas? If not, please at least signal boost because I really need to figure this out soon in order for us to make the syllabus and proposal!

Thanks in advance! <3

It was late, and you had just finished your graphic design homework, closing your laptop as your phone rang. The tell-tale sound of FaceTime. You practically leapt towards the bed where you had left it, picking up without looking at the caller. You knew who it was. Only one person face timed you.
“Hey baby.” Yixing smiled at the screen. He was in bed, bare shoulders peeking out above the sheets as he laid on his side. His eyes were swollen and heavy with sleep, tiredness, exhaustion.
You smiled. “Hey there handsome.”
He smiled wider, and yawned. “I’m sorry for calling in this late. But I see you were still awake. Homework I guess?”
“Yeah, I just finished. Shouldn’t you be sleeping Xing?”
“Yah, Lay-hyung, I thought you were calling your girl not your mom.” A voice sounded in the background and your eyes grew wide. Fear creeped into your veins.
