How are eggs incubated in The Aviary?

Except Merics and Banxers, egg incubation was done the old fashion way, you laid your egg(s) at home and sat on by mom (and dad in the case of Daws) Since the advancement of technology, electric incubators have become the norm, keeping eggs in town “nurseries” or at home. While some (mainly religious) folk think they should return to “natural incubating” , most women wouldnt dare, seeing that before they were essentially stuck in their house for a month, on top of artificial incubators reduce the effects of err..”broodiness”.

Merics are too large and heavy to sit on their eggs, and instead use to bury them under vegetation and warm them up through composting, though nowadays they also use electronic incubation too.

Banxers are strange creatures and dont lay eggs. They keep their unlayed chicks in some kinda “womb” while attached to a strange meat-yolk called a “placenta

Sometimes you’re 23 and standing in the kitchen of your house making breakfast and brewing coffee and listening to music that for some reason is really getting to your heart. You’re just standing there thinking about going to work and picking up your dry cleaning. And also more exciting things like books you’re reading and trips you plan on taking and relationships that are springing into existence. Or fading from your memory, which is far less exciting. And suddenly you just don’t feel at home in your skin or in your house and you just want home but ‘Mom’s’ probably wouldn’t feel like home anymore either. There used to be the comfort of a number in your phone and ears that listened everyday and arms that were never for anyone else. But just to calm you down when you started feeling trapped in a five-minute period where nostalgia is too much and thoughts of this person you are feel foreign. When you realize that you’ll never be this young again but this is the first time you’ve ever been this old. When you can’t remember how you got from sixteen to here and all the same feel like sixteen is just as much of a stranger to you now. The song is over. The coffee’s done. You’re going to breathe in and out. You’re going to be fine in about five minutes.

After watching Jack’s latest vlog:

Jack, let me give you my reaction to your latest vlog (prompted in part by my son), as a mother, an observer and a supporter.

This last year I have had the good fortune to be able to photograph you not once but twice. The first time in June at IndyPopCon.  There I was able to observe and briefly meet a young man that was enthusiastic, welcoming, happy (really thrilled), overjoyed, outgoing…….should I go on?  I observed and photographed you for 3 days.  Not once in those long, long hours did you fail to greet a supporter as if they were a long lost friend.

At PAX, your enthusiasm was no less abundant and perhaps even less contained then it had been at Indy.  I can’t tell you how beyond thrilled MY son was when you spoke to him on that last day.  You were the topic of many conversations on our long drive home.  I can’t tell you how many Mom’s high fived me as they walked past with their kid because those Mom’s were just as impressed with you.  Do you remember the young lady with the sever anxiety? You stopped signing and came over so that she could get a picture with you because she couldn’t ask you herself?  Can I tell you that mom simply loves you for that?

Look at the pictures above, all of them are you reacting to supporters at both events.

The time that you need to worry if you are failing your supporters is when you no longer have the enthusiasm, the drive, the sheer joy that you do in the above photos.  The time you need to worry is when you no longer feel the need to thank your supporters.  The time you need to worry is when you no longer feel the need to meet your supporters or care to interact with them.  That is the time when your supporters will let you know.

That time is not now.  The last picture is one of you, tear in eye, as the room responded and shouted back your outro with you.

Fear not, if you decide to become a douche bag, I’ll let you know (and I won’t take any more pictures  ; )

when mom comes home early and you and your siblings haven’t done anything she asked

When your “best friend” tells you he tried it and it made him feel better,
Do not pick up the blade.

When you are upset because the boy you think you’re in love with tells you he likes your best friend,
Do not pick up the blade.

When you think it could help, and you want to see how it feels,
Do not pick up the blade.

When you get home from school and your mom is already drunk and your dad doesn’t seem to care anymore,
Do not pick up the blade.

When the boy who crawled into your sheets the night before remembers that you mean nothing to him,
Do not pick up the blade.

When you run your hand over old scars, and it feels like they are screaming for new friends
Do not pick up the blade.

When you are snapping elastic bands, melting ice with your palm, trying to do anything but that,
Do not pick up the blade.

When tonight is the third night in a row that you’re listening to horrible voices in your head that aren’t your own,
Do not pick up the blade.

When you count your scars and there aren’t enough, there aren’t enough, there aren’t enough,
Do not pick up the blade.

When you need more, longer, deeper, deeper, deeper,
Do not pick up the blade.

When you realize that this small, cold piece of steel now controls your life,
you will have wished
that you never
picked up that blade.
