Josef Albers (1888-1976), was German born and was educated at the Bauhaus art school till it was closed by the Nazis. He later moved to America where he taught, most notably at Yale. He introduced to young American artists Bauhaus theory and his own color theory. He is known for his color studies: the Homage to the Square Series.
