holly are you seeing this

I drew @commanderholly in a cute/witchy outfit. I was planning on drawing her in one of her Looks™ but that just…didn’t happen?

Things have been blowing up recently with YouTube and it’s genuinely upsetting. But Commander Holly is honestly such a role model. She marches, she uses her platform to speak on real issues, and she’s just an all around incredible woman. So I highly recommend watching her content, because she’s a genuinely good person with a lotta’ heart.

How do you like keeping arboreals as opposed to ground living snakes? Is it a lot harder?

I wouldn’t say it’s necessarily harder; it just has its own set of challenges. Arboreal snakes tend to have different issues come up regarding husbandry and enrichment–for example, when I rescued my Amazon tree boa, the guy who abandoned her said she would never perch and that’s why he didn’t want her (along with the horrible mite infestation she came with).

It turned out she just didn’t like the perches he was providing her and once I gave her something that allowed her more points of contact, she started perching during the day a lot more. Animals seldom do things for no reason and part of being a good keeper is trying to troubleshoot these problems from the animal’s perspective.

Arboreal snakes also tend to behave a little differently in regards to handling. In my experience they tend to be more alert and high strung (this doesn’t necessarily mean aggressive, it might just mean you need to pay more attention to where your fingers are moving around when you handle them to avoid startling them). Treating mites on arboreals can be a bigger ordeal since I’ve found that they’re more susceptible to getting stressed by the bathing process.

I practice what I call “husbandry handling” with my ATB because she’s a slightly nervous animal who prefers not to be handled often–however, I need to be able to do it with as little fuss and stress as possible in case she ever got sick or injured and needed hands-on medical treatment. This basically means I take her out on a regular basis and practice touching gently all over her body in the ways I might need to in order to provide medical assistance, but try to make it as stress-free and short as possible. She prefers to be a hands-off pet, and that’s fine! She’s still pretty chill for an ATB and I’m grateful she’s tolerant of husbandry handling.

Holly, on the other hand, is very laid back and doesn’t mind being handled. I’ve met CBB chondros that were much more nervous and didn’t like handling at all, so this seems to be a matter of individual temperament. She had an infected tooth last year from hitting the tongs and I was able to get in her mouth to treat it with relatively little fuss and stress for her.

This got a lot longer than I meant it to, so I guess the TL;DR version is that keeping arboreals is definitely different, but not necessarily harder if you have the experience and resources to do it properly. I’ve only kept chondros and Amazon tree boas though as far as arboreals go so that’s about all I can speak for.

Little Holly Wheeler never quite forgot the Thing reaching to her from the wall in Mrs. Byers house. The Thing that lit up those pretty lights. She didn’t see the whole thing—her mom must’ve scared it away when she came in, she thinks—but her imagination filled in the blanks. Holly never quite forgot the girl on the staircase holding her big brother’s hand, either. The girl with the soft eyes and no hair who she never saw again but stuck in her memory. Holly draws that Thing every day for several days afterward and then every other week or so after that. Each one a little different from the last, trying to imagine what it looked like and what it liked to do. All of them unified in their scribbles of Christmas lights around the border and lanky, spider-like arms and fingers on the Thing. Setting her worn and broken crayons aside, one day, Holly excitedly ran over to her mom and showed her the drawing she had just finished. “Oh, Holly, that’s pretty scary! Have you been seeing monsters under your bed? Has Mike been showing you his comic books?” her mom asked suspiciously, a little frightened herself. Holly shook her head innocently, saying in a childishly stern voice, “Not scary. Friendly.” The Thing had only wanted to play with her, right? That’s why it reached out through the wall. Her mother brushed it off easily and let her scurry back off to coloring… Sometimes she drew that girl, too, the one in the blue and gray pajamas. She gave the girl colorful dresses and wide smiles. And sometimes she noticed her big brother acting……different. Sad. He wouldn’t wanna color or read stories or play tag in the backyard. He stayed in his room those times and wouldn’t bring his friends over. So, on one of these times, Holly set out to make him happy in the best way she knew how: drawing a picture. She took more time in her scribbles this time, and, though it might not look like much to you or me, she recognized them to be the Friendly Thing holding hands with the girl, this time wearing a soft pink dress and a crown fit for a princess. She peeked into Mike’s room to find him, as usual, sitting on his bed. Without words, she walked in and gingerly climbed up on to the bed next to him, setting the drawing in his lap and smiling up at him. Mike’s gasped quickly and, upon instinct, went to snap at her for coming into his room…but he didn’t. Because, in reality, the girl in the picture still was not home, was not happy. This was the closest thing he could get to seeing that. Tears ran down his cheeks silently, and Holly hugged his side

Hollstein

I recently discovered Carmilla the series and OMG!!!… Hollstein is the shit!!! Those two girls are killing me every time they kiss, seriously.

But what I enjoy the most, even more than the ship, or almost, is Carmilla wearing those leather pants and her voice, oh God, she’s so, so hot 😉💦. I just love her!! 😍😍

If you are gay as fuck and love shipping lesbian couples, you need to watch them. Sanvers, Calzona, Vauseman, Clexa, Cophine have never shared kisses like those, not even close.

When We Collide on Wattpad

“Cutest couple in Hollywood? My ass!” You commented loudly and looked down at the magazine in your hands, you wondered why you had even decided to invest money in it in the first place.

Your feet were resting on top of your desk while the icon of Tetris was still on your computer screen, but it was paused and your full attention was on the large front page in front of you.

“It’s all just a freaking joke.” You leaned over to grab your mug to take a sip of your almost cold tea, it had been standing there for too long and definitely not helping on your angry mood.

I don’t recognise Emmerdale anymore.

It still looks like the same show, but it doesn’t feel like the same show.

It’s like a copy. It’s not complete or whole right now, because it’s missing something. That’s why it doesn’t feel like the show I’ve known and loved all my life.

And for me, that’s exactly what it’s missing; emotional attachment.

Its heart.

Or what has always been at its heart - intricate and sensitive character-driven stories allowing the emotional depth which plot-driven drama for the sake of drama just isn’t capable of achieving.

Because this is what’s happening - over the last few months at least - Emmerdale has ceased to be the one soap which has always had the characters at the heart of its stories and driving them, and instead become a plot-driven mess creating drama for the sake of drama, to the point of sometimes even feeling gimmicky and farcical in places (e.g. weekly desperate attempts at forced, unauthentic comedic plots in an attempt to break up some of the sheer utter misery in the name of drama).

What we’ve been seeing lately is a regular pattern of characters’ backstories or previous plot-points being forgotten / neglected and creating this feeling of out-of-character moments, while also being given huge plot-points which are rarely followed through and given any aftermath.

How many characters have been killed off recently? And how much actual grieving have we been allowed to see? Remember Holly? Remember James? Do you remember the immediate aftermaths with the Bartons? How it affected all of the characters? Did we see it impact on Pete and his depression? Did Ross suddenly stop feeling guilty for not being there when his dad died purely because he admitted this after James’s funeral?

And then there’s Ashley. Why does Laurel need something to do immediately, regarding Emma and this video? Why can’t we just see her grieving? Why are we expected to believe that one dream has suddenly cured her of her illness regarding alcohol and that there’s no longer any struggle? Why isn’t that struggle - and her overcoming it - worth telling? Why aren’t we getting to see more of Sandy coming to terms with the fact that his child has died before him? Why - for a show that has frequently praised and valued the feeling of community among the characters - are we not seeing conversations with other characters? Why not have Sandy and Bob discuss having to be a parent watching your own child die before you? Why not have Carly turn to Laurel about Billy in light of Daniel? Why not follow through on the conversation between Aaron and Laurel about that place by Wylie’s? Why was Gabby blaming Bernice for the fact that she wasn’t there when Ashley died pitched as though it were its own plot-point when it actually lasted two episodes before she went on holiday with the very person she blamed? Why isn’t grief a worthy storyline in its own right?

Why has the narrative become so staccato, jumping from one plot-point to the next and never allowing us to see, or appreciate, the journey between them? I’m not saying this is the case for the whole show, and the grieving storylines are just one example of my point - that we are being shown very little follow-through in the majority of storylines these days, in favour of the big plot-points which guarantee the reaction. Ultimately, the characters aren’t being given the time to be human. And it was this authentic and poignant ability to mix light and shade believably, the consistent exploration of the complex spectrum of human emotion, that has always made Emmerdale different to all the other shows. This was its strength. This was the very essence of Emmerdale, at its core - its heart - but right now it feels like they’ve lost sight of that.

As you can see, my problem right now goes much further than Robron and their current storyline. It extends to Emmerdale in general. Because my issue right now, and my disappointment, is with the show as a whole and all of its storylines. Unfortunately, the backlash over this particular Robron-related storyline has become somewhat blurred with the character hate of Rebecca, and that is what the crew and media are choosing to focus on rather than distinguishing between the two. And this is where my issue lies and what I’m choosing to address.

By choosing to focus on a handful of tweets, and tarring the whole fandom / audience with the same brush rather than acknowledging the complex spectrum of humanity and the individuality of identity, they’re essentially missing the point. My issue with this particular storyline is not the storyline itself. I mean, of course I was never going to like a cheating storyline with Robron. But we’re not supposed to like every storyline. What we are supposed to be able to do is believe it, understand it, and appreciate it. Which I could have done - while disliking the content of the plot - had it been executed well. And that’s where the problem lies. The fact that it feels like there has been a distinct lack of care and effort in portraying this storyline. And I would extend this point to almost every storyline over the past few months.

Of course, we’ve been able to give the show the benefit of the doubt by putting some of the blame onto the character of Rebecca and her lack of identity because it’s never come across onscreen. And this is why we’re now reading quotes telling us what’s going on in Rebecca’s mind, and how we should feel about her and the storyline - because until now, we’ve never been shown her perspective in the narrative. You shouldn’t have to tell your audience how to feel, nor should you try to narrow their interpretations. The very essence and beauty of fiction is that it can be interpreted in so many ways. That’s what makes creating it so fulfilling. All artistes - including writers, actors, directors, producers - are enabling the freedom of creative expression. And that means opening the audience’s mind, not restricting it. If you want the intention of your story to be interpreted a certain way, it has to come across in the narrative. The fact that it doesn’t to so many, however, goes to show the lack of care in this storyline.

And that’s my problem, that’s why my eternal enthusiasm for the show in general is faltering. Because it feels like they have become complacent. They still have some truly great moments, of course they do. But that’s just it; they’re moments. Right now it feels like the only thing Emmerdale is actually being consistent in is its lack of consistency. And again, I say this in regard to all storylines.

For me, they’re asking too much of the audience while also refusing to challenge our minds and thirst for entertainment. Some aspects of the plots at the moment could resemble a paint-by-numbers, while others stretch the boundaries of our suspension of disbelief into oblivion. And that saddens me more than any storyline ever could. Because this show means so much to me. But right now, it doesn’t really feel like the same show anymore.

And that’s where my disappointment lies. Because I know what this show is capable of - including Super Soap Week which wasn’t so long ago and I’ll forever rave about - but it feels like they’ve forgotten.

And that’s why I’ll keep rooting for the twists and theories, and I’ll acknowledge the fact that quotes can be taken out of context and edited to fit the angle of the story the press are trying to spin. I am rooting for them, and willing them to prove me wrong on this. To root for themselves.

Because essentially, I don’t need - or want - platitudes or explanations in interviews.

I just want Emmerdale to feel like Emmerdale again.

”Morning everyone. I hope you’ve all had a good night of sleep because this is gonna be a long day.” Luke announced once one of the coworkers opened the door to the theater studio, grabbing everyone’s attention in the room including yours.

“Oh my god…” You mumbled under your breath when seeing Holly come from his behind with a huge smile on her face as if it wasn’t 7 A.M, she looked like someone who had been awake since the sun had raised just to get ready for today.

God the “Ruby and sapphire flirting in Hit The Diamond was unhealthy” complaint is so….. yikes.

Like no offense but they’re playing baseball like of course they’re gonna have a good time and flirt. Everyone donned on baseball gear and made up human names for themselves. The vibe was leisurely and upbeat. The goal was to convince a group of (seemingly) dim witted invaders that they’re just humans in a game of baseball.

You don’t see them flirting in front of Holly Blue or the Diamonds do you?

The Pinky Promise

When El told a slightly crestfallen Holly that, even though she had to go home, she’d come over to the Wheeler’s house tomorrow and play an extra hour of Barbies, she didn’t expect the younger girl to hold out her hand, tiniest finger extended outwards.

“Pinky promise?” Holly looked at El with wide and hopeful eyes. For a brief moment, El pursed her lips, unsure what a pinky promise was and how it differed from a regular promise. Tentatively, El offered Holly her own small finger and watched, with interest, as Holly intertwined their pinky fingers, squeezed them together gently, and nodded happily.

“See you tomorrow, Ellie!” Holly grinned toothily up at her before skipping down the hallway towards the kitchen, where El knew Karen was beginning to prepare dinner before the rest of her family returned from work and school. As she let herself out, fishing around on her keychain for the key Karen had made for her, El could hear Holly joyfully telling her mother all about the day she and El had spent together. She heard, and returned, Mrs. Wheeler calling out a goodbye to her and dragged her feet to the end of the driveway where Jim sat in his idling truck, waiting to bring her home for supper.

“Mike, do you pinky promise that we’ll always be friends?” El asked, the phone in her bedroom pressed between her ear and her shoulder as she lay on her bed, snuggled in a collection of pink and purple blankets, safe between the canopy posts and curtains that hung around her—they reminded her so much of the blanket fort Mike had once built for her, nearly two years ago now.

“I, uh…” Mike racked his brain for the proper way to articulate what he was thinking. He had just finished answering El’s question, explaining what a pinky promise was. “Of course, El. But I need to see you to really pinky promise. Definitely yes though…” he paused for a moment, trying to still the beating of his heart. Why had her request to always be friends sent his stomach into backflips? Why was the phone in danger of falling from his suddenly clammy palms? Mike gulped—he knew perfectly well why. “Hey, El, I have to go. My mom’s calling me. Can I call you back before I go to bed?”

“Of course,” El laughed softly. Mike always called before bed to tell her a story and help her fall asleep—it was their tradition, “Bye Mike.”

“Bye, El.”

Hearing the click that indicated the end of the call, El hung up the phone and returned it to its place on her bedside table, reaching for the book that also lay there, a paperback novel she had borrowed from the library earlier that week. El opened the pages to the spot where a fancy metal bookmark—a birthday gift from Nancy—kept her place. Her eyes ran over the page several times before she could focus on the words, thinking instead of Mike and the strange tone his voice had adopted at the end of their conversation. She wondered, with some worry, if she had upset him by asking him to make a pinky promise.

El had only managed to read five pages before she heard a light tapping sound on her window. With narrowed eyes, she sat bolt upright and looked over to her pink curtains, behind which the tapping sound got slightly louder. El pushed herself out of bed and crossed the room, peeking out of the fabric of her curtains to see Mike, panting, with his face nearly pressed up against the glass. When he caught sight of her, his face lit up into a bright smile and he waved eagerly. El shot him a sideways glance, confused as to why he was there—and how he had managed to bike over so quickly—as she lifted the window and stepped backwards, her bare feet warm in the soft mauve carpet Jim had installed for her room.

“Hey,” he whispered as he slid his upper half into the window, leaning forward slightly. He was tall enough now that his legs didn’t dangle off the ground, but his height meant he had to lean in at an awkward angle. “Sorry if I scared you.”

“What are you doing here?” El asked in a low and amused voice.

“I came to give you that pinky promise,” Mike said, looking at her with a goofy smile and a wink, holding out his hand. “But,” he continued, his expression changing slightly and his cheeks turning dark red, “It’s just…I can’t promise to be only your friend forever. I want to be…I mean, maybe you want to be…maybe we could…” Mike grimaced, his tongue suddenly weighing a hundred pounds in his mouth and his throat dry. Could he screw this up any worse?

“Mike,” El raised her eyebrows, “You want to be my boyfriend?”

“What? Yes!” Mike smiled, the tension in his body immediately giving way to relief and his cheeks burning brighter, “I mean, uh, sure, definitely.” He couldn’t believe that El had just used the B-word; the same word he had been wringing his hands about for weeks now. “So you’ll be my, uh, girlfriend?” The word was odd in his mouth, but he liked the way it sounded.

“Yes,” El smiled and leaned forward to wrap her pinky finger around his, “I promise.”

“El,” Mike chuckled a little, before turning serious, looking her directly in the eyes he had grown so fond of. “I promise to always be there for you.” He squeezed his finger against hers and then looked up at her beaming face and shining eyes. He wanted to kiss her then, but there was a sharp, quick knock on El’s door.

“El?” The Chief’s voice sounded from the other side of the door, “You busy?”

“One minute please,” El squeaked, pulling away from Mike and working to hold back a giggle at the look of sheer horror on his face as he hurried to remove himself from the window.

“It’s nothing,” Hopper continued, his voice light and teasing, “But tell Wheeler he’s free to use the front door.”

With that, El flushed and heard her adoptive father’s footsteps retreating down the hall.

“Maybe you could…” she began, but Mike—her boyfriend—was already nodding furiously.

“I’ll go ring the doorbell.”

[Min Holly’s Point of View]

Sunday’s are supposed to be lazy days. Normally, I’d spend them curled up in Yoongi’s lap, with him pushing his fingers through my curled fur, while he watches moving pictures on that funny box in the living room. You’d cook pancakes for him, and slip me tiny scraps from your spot the sofa. Mmmm… I love it when you do that. But you’ve been slipping me scraps of food less often lately. It has something to do with the vet saying it’s not good for me. Plus, Yoongi says I’m getting pudgy. Which isn’t true! I’m still able to run and jump and chase cats out of the neighbourhood. But… maybe I’m not as active as I used to be. But the same goes for you. You’re not as active as you used to be either. And you’ve gotten a lot bigger recently. I don’t think it’s fat though… There’s another explanation - I can sense it. You’ve been getting ill, and your moods have been swinging about, and one night, when Yoongi was fast asleep, I caught you sneaking out of bed to raid the fridge – you know I’m up for a snack at any time of the day… but really? Cucumber and mayonnaise? What were you thinking? This unnatural behaviour means something big is going to happen. It’s going to happen soon.

It’s happening… right now!
