Date #3

Hey guys! Just wanted to give you all a quick update. I’m going on my 3rd date with the older guy on Wednesday. We’re going to see a holiday show although I don’t know what show because he says it’s a surprise :) (fingers crossed for The Nutcracker). He did say I have to get dressed up but that’s all I know. Afterwards I think we’ll get coffee and dessert somewhere.

I haven’t seen him since thanksgiving break so I’m super excited :) I can’t wait to see him and get wrapped up in his arms. I’ll update again after the date!

Wish me luck!

In some good news, my iron sculpture made it into a juried exhibition in my college’s dedicated sculptural holiday show!

This is cast iron formed in a sand fortified slip mold, made from a wax positive of a plaster live cast. My parents both have nerve damage and have a tendency to move a lot, so I had to do a lot of re-sculpting in the wax phase. Did a lot of grinding work after casting, and finished it with a hot patina and some trim in gold leaf.

Back to finals!

I was out today Christmas shopping and OH MY GOSH, the humanity! People seem to be at their worst during the most joyous season.

But I was thinking, all the holiday mania shows what Christmas is all about. Really. It starts out with the best of intentions, with giving, before devolving into something not very nice and even terrible, and ending in gift giving and a feast. Jesus was that gift for us, sent to us in the sweetest, most humble way, to save a people that were created glorious but stumbled and lost their way, but who one day might sit with God at his feast, invited by him through his kind and sacrificial love.

Think of that when people are taking your parking spots and cutting in line this holiday season.

Move on, leave, run away, escape this place… but don’t forget about me, about us, about this town. Always remember where you come from so you can appreciate how far you’ve come.

You claim to love her, inside and out, but the only time you call her beautiful is when it’s 3 in the morning and I’ve already turned you down.
