This is my 5000th post so I thought I’d make today 5000 day starting with the Holden Torana SL/R 5000 and L34 option. The LH series Torana of 1974 and its derivatives were the first and only mid-sized Holden to be fully designed, engineered and manufactured in Australia. Naturally it was built to take the locally made 308ci (5 litre) V8. The L34 version, of which only 263 were made, had a higher-compression engine with stronger components for more power and durability in competition use. The LH and LX (1974-78) were the only Toranas made available with V8 power

Holden Brabham Torana, 1967. The first generation Holden Torana was an “Australianised” HB series Vauxhall Viva, the Brabham Torana was the sports model which featured twin CD Zenith-Stromberg carburettors fitted to the modest 1159cc 4 cylinder engine, providing 79hp. The car was named after Sir Jack Brabham, the Australian racing driver who was Formula One champion in 1959, 1960, and 1966

The National Museum of Australia, in Canberra has acquired the 1977 model yellow hatchback V8 Torana, which was central to the conviction and ultimate exoneration of Lindy and Michael Chamberlain, over the 1980 disappearance of their daughter, Azaria
