hits ground

TEAM LASLOW VS. THE DELIVERANCE

[THE GAME WHISTLE SOUNDS!!]

Camilla makes a safe and standard serve to start things off! Mist sets the ball up for Clive who bumps it hard to gain speed! …But Irene misses the spike and takes a facedive instead. Ouch! The wrong thing hit the ground…

One point for Team Laslow!

Veles readies for the next serve, and [WHISTLE BLOWS] Ooooh, he tossed it a second too soon, the set didn’t begin yet! Heh, I guess his internal clock must be a little off from this daylight.

One point for the Deliverance!

Clive makes a serve that puts Aradia in a pinch, but she bumps it back over the net, and Lianna can’t quite get there.

Two points for Team Laslow!

Camilla’s far more offensive with her serve this time, and BAM! Xane didn’t even stand a chance.

Three points for Team Laslow!

Titiana comes back with an equally skilled serve right at Megan! She barely passes it to Mae, who sets it up for Nix, who… sends the play by all three of them out of bounds. Oops!

Two points for The Deliverance!

Clives’s got that captain to captain stare-down going on. I think this is going to be an exciting serve… There it goes! Clive to Leo, who hits it back to Mist, who finds an empty corner and goes for it! Laslow’s running, and dives, but ohhhh he can’t quite get under the ball in time. Tough luck on that one!

Teams are tied up at three points each!

Forsyth’s turn at serve and he winds up… sending it right out of the court. A little TOO much training, I suppose…

Team Laslow at four points!

Things are heating up, the afternoon sun included! It looks like it might be getting to some of our players… You’re grounding volleys everywhere guys! Odin sends the ball into the net. Cynthia, what even was that move? It made you miss! Aradia just… dove OVER the ball? Python… [WHISTLE BLOWS AGAIN] no, you can’t CATCH it with your hands, that’s a fault! Mist is jumping on her teammate, while Cecil and Camilla both go for the ball, bumping into each other and… well there goes that set.

YIKES! Where do even stand now?

The Deliverance taking the lead with 7 points, while Team Laslow has 6!

Cecil tries to set up the ball for Kamui, but HITS her with it. Hey, are you alright?

Another point to 8 for Deliverance!

The ball’s coming at you two and… er… looks like Tatiana and Aoko both thought the other were going handle that.

Seven points for Team Laslow!

Alright Mist, now THAT’S a spike! Right past Cecil’s block!

Nine points for the Deliverance!

Clive and Kai are keeping Leo in a nasty volley, but he’s holding his own. Clive backs off and it’s looking to be a grim mistake… aaand Leo barely gets past Kai’s defense. Nicely done.

Eight points for Team Laslow!

Clive’s out for revenge on Leo… or redemption for himself, depending on how you look at it. Think he can manage another perfect serve? Leo’s turning out to be quite the MVP… There’s the serve… Leo’s on it… but Ah! Not on it enough.

TEN POINTS AND THE GAME TO THE DELIVERANCE!!

TEAM LASLOW MVP - LEO
THE DELIVERANCE MVP - Well… Captain Clive, I’d say… but it seems he’s going to concede title to MAE!

My personal congratulations to you, everyone! What an exciting round!

you’ll realize you’re in too deep when you find yourself staring a little longer than you used to, or when you realize you’ve been imagining scenarios where you wake up to them in your arms, or when you realize that they’ve done something ordinary but all you can do is smile because it’s just so cute, because they’re just so cute
that’s when you realize you’re fucked

ii.
you’ve fallen
hard

iii.
they didn’t catch you
and now you’ve hit the ground without anything to brace yourself again, nothing to soften the blow
you’ve got a face full of gravel and blood and when you look up at them, you decide you can’t blame them for not wanting to get their hands dirty

iv.
you blame the stars for not aligning the way they should have
you blame time for not being on your side
you blame circumstance
you blame situations
you blame fate
you blame them
you blame yourself

v.
you love them
and it’s a goddamn tragedy
because you look at them as if they’re the sun
and you can’t even see that they’ve lit your whole world on fire

vi.
there’s no saying whether or not this story will end in tears or smiles, whether you two will be making love or making your ways through life separately
all i know is
everything will work out the way that it’s meant to

so i was watching kindergarten kid and this guy came up

and i thought their gem looked very familiar and after a little thought i realised

she appears to have a gem just like a zircon but there’s a little M shaped bit missing on the corrupted gem which got me thinking.

i always thought that corruption was like some sort of disease that spread from gem to gem but wouldn’t that mean the crystal gems would already be infected? Looking at this it could be something entirely different.

a corrupted gem could be a chipped gem, the gem isn’t fully itself anymore but it’s not broken enough to loose its form. this could also explain why there are so many corrupted gems running around instead of hiding and why they can’t be healed, they need to find their missing piece.

I also had a little look at this video and found some other corrupted gems missing some pieces.

when i first watched jasper become corrupted (the only gem onscreen to be corrupted so far) i thought it was because she had fused with another corrupted gem but i watched the episode again and she’s flung into the air before falling and being crushed by the gem she’d just unfused with

and she lands right onto her gem

just moments later she starts showing signs of corruption.

if it was a disease that spread this quickly and efficiently every gem that visited earth would be corrupted and Jasper would have begun her corruption whilst still in the air but she didn’t

she became corrupted after hitting the ground

How much sleep he got turned out to be negligible in the long run: he really couldn’t be expected to focus anyway, because Marinette wore the Chat Noir hoodie to school the next day too.

And the next.

And the next.

In fact, she wore it every day throughout the next week.

Adrien got a crash course in ‘how to pretend you were paying attention when your crush is wearing a sweater with your signature all over it.’

He failed it miserably.

Trust Fall

Langst/Klance short fic

Trust is a weird thing, isn’t it? It’s something people take so seriously, yet they also turned it into a game. Lance just falls, and sees what happens.

-

“Oof!”

Lance made a grunt sound as he hit the ground in front of Pidge. Pidge shook her head slowly, gripping her laptop closer to her body.

“I trusted you.” Lance narrowed his eyes up to her. He laid there, arms splayed on his sides, a pout playing on his face. “I even gave you a warning.”

Pidge rolled her eyes in annoyance. “Do you think I’m just gonna drop my laptop to catch you for your dumb game? I’m sorry, Lance, but I’m really busy right now.”

Lance pout deepens, but nodded his head in understanding as Pidge lowered her face to give him a smile.

“Next time buddy, okay?”

-

Lance wanted to try it again, but this time it was with Hunk.

Lance walked a slow pace towards Hunk, humming innocently and tunefully, his arms at his sides until he was a close enough to Hunk for him to make the catch.

“Trust fall!” Lance shouted, turning his back and letting gravity take him down, falling, hoping a pair of arms would catch him.

Sadly, there weren’t.

“Oh, Lance!!” Hunk shouted in surprise, almost dropping, his plates, “Stop doing that! I can’t catch you with my hands full!!”

Hunk set the plates he was going to use for the food later down, holding out his hand for Lance to take, which he does.

“I trusted you.” Lance chuckled jokingly, narrowing his eyes as he did with Pidge. He grabbed the plates down and handed them back to Hunk.

“Sorry, dude,” Hunk frowned as soon as his hands was full of the plates again. He shifted his arms for a better position for the plates, and smiled. “Just kinda caught me off guard.”

“Ahh, don’t worry, it’s just fun and games,” Lance shrugged, “Don’t drop me next time, butterfingers.” He chuckled, and Hunk gave him a smile and shook his head, nudging Lance’s arm with his own.

“Next time, buddy, okay?”

-

Keith was next on his list.

It was after training of course. Lance had waited for Keith to be done with the bot, as it fell hard to the ground in pieces, Keith ended the session and moved out of the training area, where Lance waits for him near the entrance.

Lance was a little nervous for this one, considering that he would expect Keith to be the last person to catch him. But reality is, Lance doesn’t care if Keith catched him or not.

Because he already trusts Keith with his life.

Lance cracked a smirk, his arms ready to be stretched out, falling back on either against the cold floor of the castle, or the warmth of Keith’s arms and body.

He popped out, seeing the surprise in Keith’s purple eyes, and fell back.

“Trust fall!!!” He yelled.

Gravity took him, but instead of a pair of arms catching him, it was the whole body instead, taking both Keith and himself to the ground.

Whoops.

“Agh, LANCE!!” Keith groaned, “Get your dead weight off of me!!”

Lance laughed playfully, like a puppy looking for attention.

“Keeeeeith,” he pouted, sitting up and straddling his hips purposely, “I trusted you!”

Lance could’ve sworn he saw a quick pink flush on Keith’s cheeks, but he let that thought out of his mind.

Keith pursed his lips, not knowing what to do as if Lance straddling his hips was a once in a life kind of thing.

Keith gritted his teeth. “Get. Off.”

Lance would be hurt by this, but he caught the flicker of a smile on the corner of Keith’s mouth, knowing he was enjoying this as much as he was.

“I swear to God, LANCE!!” Keith whined, “You’re crushing me!!”

Lance grinned widely, and crossed his arms, a thought running across his mind.

“Promise me you’ll catch me next time, then.” Lance smirked.

“Lance-”

Lance smiled again, taking his hands and tickling Keith’s sides, causing him to laugh uncontrollably. A laugh that could save his life, a sound that he finds the most comfort in when the days were dark.

Lance laughed wildly too. “Promise me!”

“I-haha!!-I-sTOP IT!!” Lance caught tears in Keith’s eyes from laughing too hard, clutching his sides and wiggling underneath Lance, his body warm from the contact.

“I PROMISE!!”

-

Lance decided that his next target shall be Shiro.

But hey, what other ways can he spend his time around the castle without having a little fun for himself?

He peered around the corridor wher he saw Shiro talking to Allura about what move they shall proceed next with Zarkon and his army at hand on one of the screens, dragging their hands across it as they make the plans.

Lance wonders if even Shiro would drop everything just to catch him.

Lance made a small smile to himself, and walked in unnoticed, not listening to the talk exchanges between Shiro and Allura.

“Trust fall!!” Lance smiled widely, confident that maybe he would be caught.

Instead, he had his trust back on the floor.

Allura yelped in surprise and confusion, and Shiro just groaned with frustration.

“Ahh, Lance!” He raised his voice, “Not now!!”

Lance felt his heart break just a little, but it was alright. It was only fun and games, anyways.

“I trusted you.” Lance pouted, chuckling again. His arms at his sides, his head tilted up to look at Shiro and Allura, who both towered over him like his parents would when he was about to get -dun dun dun- la chancla.

Lance’s chuckle turned more into a light hearted laugh. It was enough for Shiro to lower his gaze to a more calm expression, cracking a small smile as he helped Lance back up.

Allura raised an eyebrow, still confused. “Is this ‘trust fall’ an earth thing?”

“Kind of,” Shiro chucked, “Hey, Lance, maybe you should stop doing this to everyone. We’re not always gonna be prepared, you’re always catching us off guard.”

Lance felt a small frown forming on his mouth when looked down, staring the ground where he was just laying. He felt a little guilty annoying everyone.

That “trust fall” thing was only something that he would do with his siblings, who no matter what they were doing or how annoyed they were, they would drop everything just to catch the boy in their arms.

It was all just fun and games, right?

“Sorry, Shiro,” Lance chuckled sheepishly, “I was just trying to pass the time.”

Allura grinned, “Well, you’re in luck Lance. Shiro and I have just finished our plan for when we infiltrate the Galra. Get the others, too. Are you ready?”

Lance’s eyes went up, a small smile finding its way back on his face.

-

He decided to do it just one last time.

-Run.-

-Run.-

-Run.-

That’s all that came to his mind. That’s all he wanted to do. But he didn’t. He couldn’t.

Lance was the one who drew the attention. He drew the attention away from Shiro and Pidge, so that they could get closer to what they needed.

Lance felt himself cornered, surrounded by the Galra.

He lifted his gun, ready to fire when they did.

And when they did, he just wasn’t quick enough to avoid all four guns aiming and firing him.

He remembers hearing the blast ricochet from all four.

He remembers their taunting words, how -useless- he was and how -irritating- he must be for his teammates to leave him all alone.

He remembers the aching pain from his chest to his leg, a burning sensation that his grandchildren could’ve felt.

He remembers seeing the Galra fall back, leading themselves to believe that they have killed one.

He remembers standing on his two, thinking of the first time he walked his first steps towards his older brother, now thinking of how these were him possibly taking his last few steps.

He remembers hearing echoes of voices and blasts coming from the end of the corridor of the Galra ship.

He remembers hearing Keith’s shouts stand out from the rest.

He remembers Keith’s laugh and his smile, which urges him forward.

Holding his sides, cracking his smile possibly for the last time, he takes bigger steps to get closer to Keith, who was crouching down behind a busted machine, a good hideaway from the Galra’s blasts.

As Lance got closer, he took smaller steps, croaking out his next words.

“Trust fall.”

Although, instead of falling back, he fell forward, gravity pulling him down, expecting to feel the cold ground of the Galra ship.

Instead he felt a pair of arms in front of him, and when he looked up, he saw a sight of someone, an expression he hopes to never see on his face again. The expression of pain and concern, eyes wide in panic. Brows furrowed worriedly, and mouth tightened as if trying to hold in the sobs. He saw the tears prickling his face.

Lance didn’t want to see that. He didn’t want to see Keith like that ever again.

“I trust you,” Lance chuckled, feeling Keith adjusting him in his arms, cradling him close to his own body, despite the fact that he was being drenched in Lance’s blood.

“S-Shut up, Lance, j-just-shut-,” Keith choked, trying to get a hold of himself. “You’re gonna be alright, you’re gonna-you have to-”

Lance lifted his hand and tangled it in Keith’s hair. He just wanted to see Keith smile one more time. He saw Keith shout something into his intercom of his helmet frantically.

Lance felt Keith tighten his grip on him when he felt himself drift away, as if he believes that the tighter he held on, the longer Lance will stay.

“I’m..not going a-anywhere Keith, but you..don’t n-need me,” Lance just laughed, “I’m just the s-seventh wheel.”

Lance was so close to Keith that he could hear the breath caught in Keith’s mouth.

“No, y-you’re not, you idiot,” Keith’s tears rolled down his cheeks, “Y-You weren’t supposed to go out like this. You -aren’t- supposed to–We were just getting-,” he sniffled, laughing like him crying was so stupid, “getting started.”

Lance laughed, and hugged himself closer to Keith, taking in his scent, even if his blood spilled over him.

Finally, he heard other voices, other hands trying to help him up. But all he did was held onto Keith tighter.

All Lance wanted to do was just lay there, knowing that his silly little trust fall wasn’t all stupid. He wanted to lay there, with Keith holding him close as if he was precious cargo. The longer Keith held on, the longer Lance will hold on.

Trust is a precious cargo that Lance likes to hold on. It’s funny, you know. The way it’s been made into a kind of game he held on as a kid? The way he trusts Keith with his own life. The kind of trust that turns a certain bond into something more than one person hoping the other will catch them.

It’s funny, the way he believes that falling is just like flying, except there’s a more permanent destination. Whether it’s the cold floor of a castle or a ship, or the warmth of someone who cares about him.

It all was just fun and games, right?

EVERY CURTIS FIC EVER:

“OW!” I yelled at Carbonated Beverage. We have the same looks, I guess. I have his beautiful, majestic shiny sun-kissed natural-highlighted sandy — not like Sandy, I hate her because she’s so horrible — blonde brown-ish long hair. “Did you really have to splash water on me? “I’m sorry,” Carbonated Beverage sang in response. “I love you so much you’re such a good sister you should come to the dx today I miss you hahaha you’re so cool and the gang loves to be aaround you1!1”

“hahaha totally!” I pulled on my cowboy boots. They matched my skinny jeans and tank top perfectly. And my leather jacket — duh, I’m a greaser — looked oh-so prefect with it1!

I don’t put on much for makeup because I don’t need any I’m so pretty. I’m not like the other greaser girls who wear all that makeup. But somehow everyone in my brother’s gang loves me!

“Ivory Diamond Ponygirl Sparkle Curtis!” Darry, my older brother called. “Come on and laugh and enjoy this breakfast I made or else I’ll hit you too because I’m so mean but when I’m not working 2,3493 hour shifts I find it in my heart to care about you!”

“Hey sweetheart dollface,” he said and I proceeded to blush so much. I’m really ugly in my opinion but everyone calls me pretty I hope Dally likes me.

Johnny is like my brother. He’s so little and fragile and I totally love friend-zoning him as my best friend!

But none of this matters, because my boyfriend is going to pick me up soon. And no — I didn’t change the tense of this story eight times!

“Bye friends and family! Two-Bit, you’re so funny! Steve, wash your face the cake I bake especially for you is all over youu!”

“What’s that, Ivory Diamond Ponygirl Sparkle Dakota Elaine Pearl Sierra Lavendar Curtis?!” I knew it was bad because he used my middle names and my last name.

“What is it, Darry?” I said innocently and tried to cover my makeup-covered bruise. I knew it didn’t cover well!1!! He removed my hand and gasped so loud that Coca-Cola woke up!!.

“It was your horrible hood boyfriend I’ve never, ever met, right?” Darry was so angry I tried to calm him down but it wouldn’t work ! “THat little loser —”

Ok so I just read some of your posts about martial arts, and if I understood it right, is that greater muscle mass doesn't actually make you stronger, it just makes it easier/faster to build up strength. Thinking of the upper body, if you have two individuals where one has more mm than the other (or a man/woman), on the assumption that both have equal capacity and training, the person with greater mm wouldn't directly be *stronger* because of the mm, but has just progressed faster? Is that it?

So, here’s the thing. Martial arts do not rely on strength, some techniques such as joint locks and throws require no strength at all. Muscle helps, but it is not comparable to understanding of technique. You’re not actually going to be build up a lot of muscle mass when practicing martial arts techniques by themselves. You will when doing endurance training and strength training separately, but that’s about it. Then, in the more advanced section, we get into the admission that its not about how hard you hit but rather where (and how deeply the force penetrates the body).

You don’t need to be physically “strong” to break bricks, for example. Rather, it’s a question of your ability to visualize past an object so the force carries through.

Most of martial arts is about manipulation of body mechanics to generate force. Muscles help, but not as much as most people think and certainly not in the way they think. The average athlete will have more muscle mass and muscular definition than the average martial artist. For fighting, endurance trumps flat physical strength. Too much of a certain type of muscle, such as that seen on a body builder, becomes detrimental. After all, muscle weighs more than fat. If you’re totally ripped, it becomes more difficult to move quickly which is detrimental and the amount of weight you’re carrying around reduces the length of time you can fight.

More than that, different humans develop visible definition in their musculature at different rates. In some cases, it requires a very specific, pointed regimen to get the look you see off of body builders and actors. Women have a very difficult time achieving visible definition, especially in their upper body. So, being able to see muscle doesn’t necessarily mean it isn’t there.

So, you’re still thinking about it wrong. Muscle mass (as in the size of your muscles) isn’t what’s important. There are essentially two different kinds of muscles that one can develop.

1) the ones gained by stretching/elongating the muscle over a period of time, which is what you get from most sports like running and general aerobic exercise.

2) the ones gained by tearing the muscles so they build up over time, this is what you get from body-building, weight lifting, pushups, and other similar exercises.

For a combatant, the first one is actually more important because it emphasizes building of endurance. Your muscles remain lean, you build up wind, though you won’t gain much in the way of definition. The second one is also important but in moderation as too much muscle mass will actually impede movement and slow you down. One is endurance, the other is strength. Endurance is far more necessary, because that’s what allows you to fight for a prolonged period of time without growing tired.

The problem is the vast majority of the population is only aware of the second and most obvious type of muscle. They place all the emphasis on it. Ironically, of course, this shouldn’t be news to fans of Dragonball Z. Where the problem of over emphasizing training on building up muscle mass gets addressed during the Cell Saga. (Kudos for anyone who remembers which Super Saiyan got their butt whipped.) In this case, a bodybuilder would be at a greater disadvantage in a fight as opposed to a runner.

The second thing to understand about women is that they have what’s called a subcutaneous layer of fat underneath the surface of the skin. For some women, it is very difficult to build up any sort of visible definition and sometimes even requires a specific type workout regimen to achieve it. This doesn’t mean these women don’t have muscle, it’s just not visible and that makes it hard to accurately judge how much. Women also develop muscle differently from men, having an easier time building up their legs and their core than the upper body. However, those are just as essential to combat as your upper body. Your core is your primary means of maintaining balance, and acts as the body’s centerpoint. If you’ve got a weak center, it doesn’t matter how strong your arms are.

The third thing to understand is about rippling muscles. The more visible the muscle, the easier it is to find the pressure points. Most pressure points on the body exist in the places where separate muscles meet, so the more definition someone has then the easier they are to find.

If you assume both have equal capacity and training, then it doesn’t matter how much muscle mass is visible or who has more.

The issue you keep running into is in thinking that muscle = strength, which it doesn’t. The second is the assumption that physical strength is what matters, which again it doesn’t.

Technical proficiency matters. Endurance matters. Wind, as in how much oxygen you can get into your body, matters. Balance matters, your core muscles as in the abdominal muscles are the most important muscles to develop. The rest of it? Less so.

Physical strength can enhance, but only to a certain, limited degree. In martial arts, force is generated through the motion. Being able to deadlift 200 pounds doesn’t mean you can hit with anywhere near 200 pounds of force when your arm is moving. The amount of weight you lift doesn’t translate to force. Instead, we look to how force is generated through the movement of the body. To generate the maximum amount of force in a punch, you need to throw your whole body behind it.

This means your hand, your wrist, your arm, your shoulder are working in concert with your hips and your legs and your feet. However, there is a limit to how much force can be generated. A kick creates more momentum and is more powerful than a punch. Techniques where you spin, such as the spinning backfist or the wheelkick, are more powerful than the average martial arts technique. The more momentum you generate, the harder you hit. The same goes for jump kicks. The more momentum there is, the more force created. When you’re talking a judo or aikido throw, the point is to let the opponent’s body do the work for you. You get them into the air and their body in motion provides the force when they hit the ground. You don’t need to be strong, you just need to get them moving.

Martial arts techniques both offensive and defensive revolve around the concept of creating, negating, and redirecting momentum. This includes both yours and your opponent’s.

Here is a simple example:

Someone charges at you. You’ve got three options. You can stand there and take it. You can attempt to negate the charge by grabbing hold of them as they come and springing your feet backwards so you both likely end up on the ground. Or, you can get out of the way. (Maybe, you risk sticking your foot out to trip them.)

These are the basic concepts of martial arts defense.

It doesn’t really matter if it’s a big person charging you or a small one. It will matter a lot more if they are a linebacker, a wrestler, or someone who understands how to slam their shoulder into their opponent’s core to knock them over.

I get that this concept runs directly counter to the way combat is presented in media, and that’s why it ends up harder to comprehend. Just as many people end up discouraged when they start exercising to lose weight and end up gaining instead, because they were never taught that muscle weighs more than fat. That muscle will eat your fat, and help them achieve the body they want. All they know is weight itself as an aggregate is bad, if they are gaining then exercise must not be working, and they end up quitting because of it.

If you think about combat primarily in terms of strength then you will miss all the other fundamental pieces that are ultimately more important. When martial artists talk about “strength”, they’re usually referring to the generation of momentum rather or the technique’s effectiveness rather than how much you can lift or some other definition of physical strength.

Otherwise, the word you’re looking for fortitude.

Becoming an Avenger was not what you expected. Instead of a warm welcome, you had no welcome at all. Instead of  making new friendships, you seem to have made…enemies? You weren’t exactly sure what they were. The team didn’t take a liking to you and you had no idea what you did to deserve such a rough time with them. You were on their team, you helped them during missions, and dare you say it: you picked up their slack and even saved their lives a few times.

So why do they hate you? Why do they ignore you?

You were getting ready for a mission, slipping your boots on. Your zipped up your suit afterwards and took a deep breath as you looked in the mirror. It was much like Natasha’s, just with more weapon holsters and secret pockets for knives. You sighed as you left your room, almost dreading having to leave.

You tried all morning to find out what the mission was about. Every time you asked someone, they’d brush you off or just completely ignore you. It was frustrating, but you knew they couldn’t let you go out there and not know what to do. Sure, kill enemies and protect your team members, but you didn’t know if there was something you had to do specifically.

The tower was pretty quiet as you searched for the team. Taking the elevator up to the common room, you didn’t find them there either. It was ten minutes till take off and you had no clue where they were.

“Friday, where’s the team?” You asked, tapping your fingers against your thigh nervously. “They are about to leave, Miss Y/L/N.” You gasped and the elevator doors slid open just as you were about to ask Friday to tell them to wait on you.

You opened the door to the roof and saw Steve walking onto the strip, securing his shield on his back. You ran as fast as you could, yelling for Steve to wait on you.

“I’m coming! Wait! Please!” Your combat boots hit the ground hard and fast as you watched the landing strip start to close. Your heart was beating fast and you swore he almost turned around to look at you but acted like he didn’t hear you.

Grunting, you pushed yourself to run faster and you just barely made it as the strip started to lift off the ground. You fell onto the strip and crawled up into the quinjet, your lungs burning.

The team was sitting around the table, going over the mission plans again, not seeming to care that you were gasping for air on the floor.

“You couldn’t have waited for me?” You asked breathlessly, standing to your feet. Nobody turned to look at you and you sighed heavily through your nose. “Guess not.” You muttered, walking over to the table. You stood near Sam and he cleared his throat, slightly turning his body away from you.

You peeked over the table to look at the manila file folder Steve was reading from. “It’s a HYDRA base. It holds information on a new experiment and we cannot leave without it. You know what to do.” His eyebrow quirked as he looked up from the file to glance around the team, skipping you.

“Who’s supposed to get the information?” You asked, looking around at the team. Their expressions were cold and they stayed silent, moving away to sit in their seats. You sighed and you reached for the file until a hand yanked it off the table. You looked over to see Clint whistling to himself, holding the file in front of his face, pretending to read it.

The team chuckled quietly and you frowned. “I wanted to read that.” You said, waiting for Clint to put the file down to respond to you. When he didn’t, you sighed. “Forget it.” You turned to sit in your rightful seat, only to see a large black duffel bag sitting in it.

Wanda was smirking as she hummed, keeping a hand on the bag so you couldn’t pull it away. Not bothering to say anything, you sat against the wall, a little ways away from the team.

You were used to them treating you like this, so it didn’t bother you too much to not have a seat or know what the mission was entirely about. You’d do what you always do. Go in, take down any enemy you see, and make sure the team was safe.

And that’s what you were doing. Your guns were firing bullet after bullet as you fought alongside Nat, Wanda, and Clint.

“On your left!” You shouted to Nat as she snapped a guards neck. Another one was charging at her and he pulled out a gun just as you hopped off the back of another guard.

Nat, of course, didn’t listen to you. So instead of letting her get shot, you ran into her and you both fell to the ground before either of you got shot. You quickly shot him down and Nat grunted, more so in annoyance than pain. “Get off of me!” She yelled, pushing you onto your back.

You scoffed and shook your head at her. “You’re welcome for saving your ass!” You yelled back, watching her kick open a door, leading into another room. Clint followed silently behind Nat, his bow aimed in front of him. You stomped after them and swallowed your anger. All you needed to do was get through this mission alive. Being angry would only make you lose focus.

You walked into the room Nat and Clint were in and you listened to Nat and Steve talk to each other in your comms. “The room is empty. Do you see anything?” Steve asked, you could hear him grunting and fighting alongside Bucky and Sam.

Wanda and Tony had been searching the far end of the base. A sense of familiarity set into your bones as you looked around the room. You knew exactly where they would keep such information. “I know where it is!” You exclaimed, listening to the team go quiet. “Great.” Clint said sarcastically.

You looked at Clint and Nat let out a laugh. “Of course she does. She was one of them.” Nat laughed harder and soon the others joined her. Your heart sank in your chest and you gripped your gun in your hand, holding onto the last ounce of composure you had.

Your past with Hydra wasn’t what they wanted to accept. They thought you were one of the bad guys, but you weren’t. You never were. You were kidnapped and experimented on but they didn’t care to look at it that way.

You sighed and left the room, making your way to the hidden vault on the left wing of the base. A few guards cut down the hallway, yelling in Russian. Before you could do anything , you had to take them out. And it was more than you expected. “Shit.” You muttered, readying your gun and a throwing knife.

You shot down any guard you could and even had to do hand-to-hand combat to get through some of them.

You took down the last guard with a choke hold and pride filled your chest. You ran towards the end of the hallway and saw a door with a passcode button. If you remembered correctly, you’d be able to get in without tripping an alarm. You had to do this before and it was nothing new to you. You knew all of their codes, having been in a base for five years.

The team had gone quiet in your comm and you figured all the guards left were dead. You suddenly heard footsteps approaching behind you. “What is she doing?” You heard Sam ask behind you. You turned around and let out a breath as you saw who it was. “I’m getting what you all couldn’t find.” You shrugged, turning back to the door.

You punched in a code and heard it beep two times, then the metal door slid open to reveal a large vault. You pumped your fist and exclaimed happily. “Unbelievable.” Wanda groaned, shaking her head. The others were upset and angry, but you were happy to had found what was needed.

You typed in the same code into the vault and pulled the door open, a file folder and two tubes of red liquid were set on display. You took them all and walked over to Steve, holding them out for him with a smile. He stared down at you with an unreadable expression before turning and walking away.

The team followed behind him and you sighed, following after them. Nobody was grateful for you finding it. Though, after a successful mission, you were worn out and ready to clean yourself of the dirt and blood.

So when you got back to the tower, you went straight to your bedroom to clean up. Thoughts filled your head, swirling around and nearly making you dizzy, as you slipped out of your boots and your suit. Your chest felt heavier the more you thought about everything.

You stepped into your bathroom and turned on your shower, stepping in and letting the hot water loosen your tense muscles and wash away the sadness. Only by a little. It wasn’t enough to let you feel peaceful. The way the team treated you everyday, it hurt. It was confusing and you were tired of it.

Getting out, you quickly dried your hair and slipped on a pair of shorts and a tank top, deciding to wear a thin cardigan. It gave you a sense of comfort. Your mind raced with questions and possible reasons as to why the team didn’t like you. You’d even say they hated you at this point.

Your stomach growling kept your thoughts at bay, you were more than ready to eat dinner. You’d rather avoid the team, but you had a right to eat just as much as they did. As the elevator to the kitchen opened, you could hear the team talking among themselves, the sound of their laughter echoing through the hallway.

You stopped before you reached the door, keeping out of sight as you heard your name.

“Come on, Nat! Y/N saved you.” You heard Wanda say, teasing the redhead. You could just picture the smirk on her face, you even heard the venom laced in her tone as she spoke. Nat scoffed and a few laughs covered up the beginning of her sentence.

“-but I had it under control. It’s not my fault the bitch won’t stick to her job.” You frowned and leaned against the wall, your stomach sinking as you listened to everyone agree. “I mean, she acts like she’s the best on the team!” The sound of a fork dropping onto a plate made you jump and you were suddenly aware of the tears falling down your cheeks.

You sniffled lightly and wiped at your nose with the sleeve of your cardigan. “I mean, we don’t even need her here.” Sam said just loud enough for you to hear. You felt sick to your stomach, feeling like a terrible burden to everyone.

Clint chuckled and you could hear him loudly chewing his food before he joined in. “She knew the passcode. Only a fucked up person would remember Hydra’s passcodes.” He mumbled the last part lowly. You heard Bucky clear his throat, his chair sliding against the floor. “Excuse me!?” He asked, shock evident in his voice.

You covered your mouth as a sob threatened to escape and you turned on your heel, running down the hallway and back to the elevator.

You couldn’t listen to this anymore. All they did was ignore you when you needed them or even wanted to hang out, and they were always talking about you and how they don’t like you. If they didn’t want you here, all they had to do was say so.

You stepped into the elevator and took it up to your bedroom. You tried your best to hold it in and when you slammed your door shut, you let everything go.

Everything that you held in came crashing down on top of you. Your sobs echoed through your room and it felt like your heart was going to split in two. You couldn’t understand what you did wrong.

A few minutes passed and a knock on your door startled you. Quickly scrambling to your feet, you took a few deep breaths before you opened your door, only to see Bucky standing there. His hair framed his face as he looked down at you, his eyes taking in your appearance.

You wiped at your cheeks and put on a fake smile, as if he couldn’t see that you were crying right in front of him. “H-hey, James.” Your voice came out shaky and you winced at the sound of it. Bucky stuffed his hands in his pockets, his head hanging low, guilt bubbling in his stomach.

He felt bad for how the team treated you. He would always take up for you, always tell the team to give you a break. He knew you were good for the team, whether they wanted you here or not. But he was too scared to approach you about it.

It was no excuse, but he was still new to opening up and talking about feelings. He hoped he was strong enough to finally put an end to how the team treated you.

“Did…Did you want to join us?” Bucky asked softly, kicking himself in his mind at what he just asked you. Why on earth would you want to join them after hearing what they said about you? After how they’ve treated you ever since you arrived? You were taken aback and you wanted to scoff at Bucky, but you held it in. He was making an effort.

You shook your head, “Sounds like you’re all having the time of your lives. I don’t want to intrude.” You walked away to sit on your bed and you sniffled, staring down at your knees.

Bucky walked into your room and sat down on your bed beside you. You held your head in your hands and let out another sob. “I need to leave.” You spoke through your sobs and Bucky felt his heart clench in his chest. “Please, don’t.” He whispered, and you almost missed it over your crying.

You let out a shaky laugh and you looked up at Bucky. “You guys hate me! I can’t do this anymore. A-all I’ve ever done, all I’ve e-ever tried to do was be apart of the team!” You inhaled deeply before another sob shook your body.

Bucky’s right hand rested on the small of your back, his metal hand moving to your cheek to wipe away your tears. “Y/N, when I first got here, they, aside from Steve, treated me nearly the same way.  And…what happened to you, they don’t understand it. But I do.” Bucky saw your lip tremble and that did it for him.

“Come with me.” He stood to his feet and held his hand out for you. You stared at it as if it were a foreign object, your eyebrows creasing. “What?” You asked, sniffling as you wiped at your cheeks.

He gently wiggled his fingers after a few seconds. “Come on.” Bucky quietly urged you to take his hand and you gently slid yours into his, letting him pull you along to wherever it was he was taking you.

Taking the elevator back down, Bucky brought you into the kitchen and you felt small beside him. But you felt even smaller when the team looked up at spotted you with him. He stood there, his chest rising and falling heavily as his anger tried to break through his ribcage.

“She’s apart of the team. I don’t care who doesn’t like it. She has saved you-,” He pointed to Nat with a hard stare and she slowly sank in her seat, casting her eyes down to her lap, “-and you, and you.” He pointed at Wanda and then Clint.

They all sat there, seemingly full of shock and surprisingly, guilt.

Bucky’s hand dropped from yours and he walked over to the table, moving his plate of food to an empty seat beside him so that you could eat it.

"Y/N, eat with us.” He said with a small smile. You stood there, unsure of what to do, just like the others as they watched. Bucky sighed and walked over to you again and pulled you to the seat, gently sitting you down.

“If anyone says anything about her again, I won’t be so nice.” Bucky threatened, taking the seat beside you. You kept your eyes on the plate and bit your lip nervously. Bucky gently nudged your arm and you looked up at him. He smiled at you and motioned towards the plate.

You sighed and slid it back to him. “It’s yours.” You whispered, ignoring the stares from the team. “I want you to eat first. You worked hard today.” Bucky shrugged.

Nat took a deep breath and Bucky tensed in his seat. He shot her a warning glare and she held her hands up in defense. “I was just gonna tell her thank you.” She said softly, her eyes flickering to your face before looking at Bucky again.

Steve straightened his back in his seat, “Y/N, I want to apologize. And I-I want to say thank you, as well.” Steve said, his cheeks tinted red. Your eyes widened and soon enough the whole team was apologizing.

“We weren’t sure if we could trust you. Hydra has…Hydra has a way with weaving people in and destroying things.” Tony explained after a few minutes, setting down his drink.

You nodded gently. Bucky let his arm rest on your chair, his thumb brushing against your shoulder. A warm feeling spread throughout your body at the small action. “I’m sorry if I haven’t proved myself.” You whispered softly, keeping your eyes on the food.

Sam cleared his throat and looked over at you. “You’ve proved that we could trust you many times and I’m sorry for everything. We need you on the team. I was too cocky to admit it.” Sam mumbled the last part bashfully. Bucky snorted and covered his mouth with his hand. Soon enough, you were laughing along with the team.

“Do you want to say something?” Bucky asked softly, watching as you took a bite of your food. You looked around at everyone and sighed.

It wasn’t entirely wrong to accept their apologies. They did have a good reason to resent you at first, with the whole new recruit with a Hydra backstory situation, but it would take you a little while to fully become their friend after everything.

You shook your head and looked up at Bucky. He simply nodded at you, completely understanding, and let you get back to eating. He kept his arm over your chair and scooted just a tad closer to you.

Not too long after, the team started talking again, only this time: they didn’t ignore you.

say it the first time in your own tongue; snatch the syllable out of the fire like his body. in your mouth, taste the name. tell them he is saved.

say it again with a new tongue, a new face. feel the grace within you shake. wonder what it knows; wonder if your head will learn too late.

say it again in curiosity - watch the way you can make his eyes turn to you with a call. his eyes are green. it’s becoming your favourite sound.

say it again in sorrow - watch the way he keeps his eyes on you as you fall, as you fall. the night, without flight, is obscene - and you hit the ground.

say it in anger. say it in loss. say it in painful hope. say it and mean everything you feel in one word, one single word - feel it slope and bend under the weight. feel your heart shake. feel your hands shake. remember that the part of you that knew first was your grace.

say it out loud - say it to yourself. say it in silence with eyes only. say sorry with it, say you’re sorry for the lies - only you can’t be sorry for wanting him to be safe. oh, the part of you that knew first was your grace.

say it again, say it again. never for the last time, promise that. swear to yourself it will always be on your tongue; swear there will always be another chance to say it, and another, and another one.

cup your hands around his life. close your fist around your knife. his eyes are green. his eyes are green. say it again - say it like you mean it; say it like it could tell him what it is that you mean. say it again. say it again.

say it.

Dean.
