Thank you so much!! This was such a good prompt!
Castiel had a power about him, Sam had noticed that whenever he had a plan he would take a commanding stance. It was like he took up the entire room, and Sam supposed that came from his true form being bigger than they could comprehend. Sam liked watching Cas, like seeing the raw power and passion in his face. It was admirable, beautiful even. The only problem, it made it very difficult to concentrate on whatever the angel was saying.
They didn’t spend a whole lot of time together alone, Dean always seemed to be there acting as a buffer. It made sense, Cas was Dean’s friend but Sam’s colleague at best. But Sam couldn’t help it, whenever he was near Cas he just had to stare. Okay, so Sam could admit he had a slight crush on him.
Cas was going over yet another plan with them, explaining something or other about God’s location. Sam couldn’t quite say what, he’d tuned out Cas’ voice a long time ago, focusing only on the grace that he emitted. All the sound in the room stopped, and Sam was pulled from his thoughts as Dean sprung into action. He yelled something about grabbing some food, leaving Sam and Cas alone together. It was the first time they’d spent any time alone in a few weeks at least. An awkward silence hung over the room.
“So what do you think of my idea?” Cas eventually said. He took a seat on the bed closest to him, the bed the furthest away from where Sam was sat at the small kitchen table. Sam’s eyes widened as he tried to rack his brain for whatever Cas’ idea was. A small smirk grew on the angel’s face. “You weren’t listening, Sam, were you?”
“No, I… sorry, Cas,” Sam replied sheepishly.
Cas stood, and Sam could feel his huge presence fill the room once more. It was slightly intimidating, but Sam held his nerve.
“I’ve seen the way you look at me when you think I don’t notice,” Cas remarked. He took a few steps towards Sam, quickly crossing the space between them. Suddenly, he wasn’t a whole room away but right in front of Sam. “I’ve noticed, Sam.”
Sam didn’t know how to respond to that. Cas wasn’t the most expressive person, Sam could never tell what the angel was thinking. Was he upset, disgusted, happy?
“I want you to know, Sam, that I’ve definitely looked at you in the same way,” Cas said.
“You have?” Sam choked, voice catching in his throat.
“I have. There’s something admirable about you, Sam, and watching you is a pleasure.“
If Sam had been stood up, no doubt he would have collapsed. He’d just had a dumb crush, and Cas - Cas felt the same way. He stood up to Cas, offering out his hand for Cas to take.
"I- would you want to go out some time?” Sam asked carefully, picking his words. Cas smiled, a bright smile that he’d not seen in so long.
“I would love to, Sam Winchester.”
