‘HIGH TIDE’ by @evoca1 in Miami for @pangeaseed and @seawalls_ This piece represents the artist’s concerns with the effect of global warming on the rising sea level in Miami. The dog on the car is a representation of our will to stay afloat and struggle to survive the changing times. #streetart #hightide #globalwarming #dog #cars #pangeaseed #seawalls #art #mural #evoca1 #miami https://www.instagram.com/p/BQs8UQnjDxH/

I just now remembered this one time when I was on a school trip to some….butthole nowhere village??? what is that place. it was so dark i honestly can’t remember. anyway it was by the sea and the tide was coming in so there was a tiny island of sand a little ways away from shore and me and some classmates heard a meow and they were like ‘omg what do we do’ but I IMMEDIATELY threw off my shoes and went to retrieve the cat that got stuck in high tide. being a fairly quiet child everyone was like ‘where’d all that initiative come from’

anyway that’s something Agent Washington has done at some point

BOOKS I READ IN 2016: Seven Tears at High Tide by C.B. Lee

Home is the waves, his family swimming beside him as he hunts for fish, the sparkling water and the hidden depths, forests of kelp swaying gently in the current. But home is also Kevin’s smile, the way he cuddles up next to him in Kevin’s bed, watching movies; it’s the colorful rocks on the trail in the state park, the dazzling cliffs and the beaches.

On this day in music history: January 31, 1981 - “The Tide Is High” by Blondie hits #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 for 1 week. Written by John Holt, it is the third chart topping single for the New York based rock band fronted by lead vocalist Debbie Harry. The song is a cover of the Jamaican rocksteady classic originally recorded by The Paragons in 1967. Debbie Harry and Chris Stein discover the song on a compilation tape of Caribbean music that a mutual friend gives them, while they are in London. “Tide” is released as the first single from Blondie’s fifth studio album “Autoamerican” in November of 1980. Early US pressings of “Tide” erroneously credits the songwriter as being “Duke Reid”(The Paragons producer) rather than John Holt. It is corrected on subsequent pressings of the 45. The single also includes the non-LP B-side “Suzy And Jeffrey” which also becomes a fan favorite. Entering the Hot 100 at #81 on November 15, 1980, it climbs to the top of the chart eleven weeks later. “The Tide Is High” is certified Gold in the US by the RIAA.

Brightest supermoon in almost 69 years

The phenomenon known as the supermoon will reach its most luminescent in North America before dawn on Monday. It will reach its zenith in Asia and the South Pacific on Monday night. Across the international dateline in New Zealand, it will reach its brightest after midnight on Tuesday local time.

The moon orbits the Earth in an oval shape. The moon will be at its brightest this week because it is coming closer to the Earth along its elliptical orbit than at any time since January 1948. The supermoon will also bring stronger than usual high tides, followed by plunging low tides the next morning.

Viewers can expect to see a moon about 14 percent larger in diameter and about 30 percent brighter than when it’s at its furthest from the earth. It won’t be as big and bright again for another 18 years.

NASA says its closest approach will occur at 6:21 a.m. EST (1121 GMT) Monday when the moon comes within 221,523 miles (356,508 kilometers). That’s from the center of the Earth to the center of the moon. Full moon will occur at 8:52 a.m. EST (1352 GMT).

According to the astronomy website earthsky.org, the term supermoon entered usage five years ago when the closest full moon fell on March 19, 2011. The scientific term is perigee full moon.

In 2034, the moon will come even closer, within 221,485 miles. That, too, will be a supermoon. (AP)
