hey look every character looks different each time i draw them

anonymous asked:

Hello there; I've been looking through your blog and, as many others say, I just ADORE your art! I was also wondering if you could give me some advice. For quite a few months now I've utterly lost all motivation to draw. I want to go into something with art, so this devastates me, and whenever I try to draw I just get so easily frustrated. I've been an avid artist since I can remember, so for me to suddenly not want to draw for months on end really concerns me. Any suggestions to fix this?

(hi!! apologies for the late reply. i hope this can still be of some help to you despite that!)

i think that’s a feeling every artist struggles with at some point. you love art, you love making art, and it’s immensely frustrating when that suddenly doesn’t work out despite all the effort you’ve been putting in. and then you start to lose motivation, question yourself and everything you’re doing, and it’s a vicious cycle that’s really hard to break out of. so what can we do?

well, here’s a thing. let’s call it the productivity branch.

i feel like my own creative cycles are very seasonal. not in the sense that my creativity depends on the season, but rather that my creativity itself goes through different seasons.

  • spring: new ideas, motivation, productivity still low
  • summer: lots of ideas and very productive
  • autumn: still productive drawing leftover ideas, but new ideas are harder to come by. and then
  • winter: nothing. art-block. lack of ideas, everything-sucks-syndrome, no motivation, the creative part of my brain is basically hibernating

that’s you up there. you’re in a creative winter right now. and without any inspiration or motivation it’ll be hard to find a way to cross that gap over to a new spring (pls bear with the cheesy analogies). and if your cut yourself off from inspirational influence you might start to think that, hey, this isn’t so bad. i mean, who needs spring right? just means you have to do things. be active. yikes. winter’s pretty chill. haha.

but don’t do that. it’ll come around and bite you at some point, because that lack of motivation and activity might start to seep into other parts of your life, not just the creative one, and you don’t want that.

so! when you don’t have ideas and motivation to create, then don’t create. but instead make an effort to inspire yourself. inspiration entails motivation (and vice versa).

  • read books, short stories, poems, science articles, anything
  • go on walks, explore your surroundings, if affordable maybe even go somewhere farther away
  • let people tell you stories
  • listen to new music
  • try things you haven’t done before (deliberately break old habits)
  • go through other people’s inspiration blogs
  • collaborate with a friend
  • get really invested in something, talk to others about it
  • watch movies, animated shorts, documentaries
  • or speedpaintings and art tutorials
  • try different techniques, or new brushes
  • look at art that’s so inspiring that you can’t believe you’re still just sitting there not drawing anything yourself
  • and most importantly, be receptive. take in the world around you, rearrange it in your head, and draw whatever you end up with. that’s the core of what creativity is

think about what you want to achieve. make your friends smile? draw something really cool you can print out and hang up in your room? touch people’s hearts? deliver a message? whatever it is, and however small or inconsequential it might seem, keep it in mind. it’s your light at the end of the tunnel.

if want to keep drawing for the sake of muscle memory while you’re still looking for your inspiration:

  • illustrate your daily activities
  • draw a random shape or find one in a photo (clouds are ideal for this) and turn it into a character or object
  • pick different pictures and combine elements from each of them into one drawing
  • do plain ol’ studies
  • basically don’t try to come up with things completely from scratch. find something to work with and go from there. that will save you the mentally draining task of coming up with a subject, so you can start actively drawing right away

if you still can’t make yourself pick up a pen, make a schedule. train your brain to turn its creative gears at a specific time of the day, make that a habit. do it for pavlov

approach drawing with the awareness that what you create might suck, especially when you’re out of practice, but this doesn’t mean that it will always suck, and it doesn’t mean you suck. if you learn to dissociate your current creative achievements from your worth as a person and your future potential you will get back to work a lot easier, improve faster, and be more resistant to setbacks.

find something that makes it worth the effort of working through the frustration.

you might need to try a lot of different things because everyone copes with this differently, and even when a method worked once that doesn’t mean it always will. so start trying! you can only find inspiration if you start looking for it. 👍

Hidden Art (Avengers X Fem!Reader)

Characters: Avengers X Fem!Reader

Universe: Marvel, Avengers

Warning: None

Request: Hey! I was wondering if you could make a fic where the reader is a shy recruit at the Avengers and she doesn’t really talk to anyone and didn’t let anyone in her room, and one day someone walked to her room and found out that she was very good at art, told the team and they all asked her for paintings and stuff and she freaked out a bit? Sry if it is too long… 😅😅

When you were little and growing up, you always wanted to be a secret agent. You never thought you’d end up being the backup of the Avengers. Whenever the avengers went on a mission, they had their soldiers beside them. The ones who worked closely with them, like Rhodey but weren’t actually Avengers, and then there was the other SHIELD agents under their orders. You had worked you way up to Rhodey’s level, and now you worked with every avengers every day, and that included having a living space at the base with them.

Forever Enough

Summary: [Pre-serum] Steve Rogers is determined to get into the Army, but you and Bucky keep trying to persuade him that it’s not a good idea.

Characters: Steve Rogers x Reader, Bucky Barnes

Warnings: fluff, cute af!Steve, angst, arguing, character deaths [?]

A/N: @redlipstickandplaid  kinda requested this, I say kinda because she asked for some Fluffy Pre-Serum Steve where Buck and the reader try a deter Rogers from trying to join the army- and this, well, my brain had different ideas. Annie, don’t hate me too much, lmao <3

“You need to stop this, Steve,” you let out a sigh as you ran a hand through you hair, exasperated at your friends actions.

He shook his head, taking a seat on the couch. “I can’t. I have to do this,” he spoke with pure determination, that determination he always had every time he tried to enlist and still got denied on medical grounds. He wasn’t one to give up, that’s for sure.

There was a short silence before the door opened, revealing Bucky in his full army uniform. It was fair to say, he looked pretty angry.

“What were you thinking!” he threw his hat unceremoniously onto the spare chair in his frustration. Bucky took a deep breath, running a hand across his face, “you can’t keep doing this, man. Going as different names each time won’t change your medical records.”

“I just want to do something to help, alright?” Steve retorted, getting to his feet, a look of dismay across his face. “Everyone else is out there fighting and I’m just here- doing nothing to save anyone.”

It pained you to see him beat himself up over things that were beyond his control. “Steve, listen to me,” you walked over to him, your hand gently taking hold of his own, “you can help here, and you do help here. You help me just by being here, by being my friend in this crazy, horrible time.”

Those bright blue eyes looked up at you with slight hesitation before Steve spoke, “but I’m not enough, am I? I never will be,” he spoke in a broken tone before pulling away from your touch and making his way out of the house.

Being a transferred student at a magic school wasn’t half as awesome as being a transferred student in no-maj schools. The kids at Hogwarts would not only laugh at the way she pronounced the spells, but would always correct her from “no-maj” to “Muggles”. They would complain constantly about why Americans don’t speak English correctly, and of course they would laugh at how Ilvermorny copied the house system.

“Of course it’s not half as good as the one here,” they would say, “they aren’t even sure what house represents what. They’re definitions are so badly structured.”

Less to say, the food at Hogwarts was extremely different; and it was horrible not to have the Puckwudgies there to have a chat or at least to have company. The elves at Hogwarts would mostly stay hidden the whole day, and if one of them was out they wouldn’t talk to the students.

Another thing that bothered her was the fact that Hogwarts was full of ghosts. Ilvermorny hadn’t got a single ghost, poltergeist, or similar. Peeves would pull her hair, the house ghost would float through her, and it just wasn’t pleasing.

She hated Hogwarts.

Of course she hadn’t made many friends. After being sorted in Ravenclaw, she found a few of her roommates as not-so bad. They would help each other out to open the common room’s door, do some homework, etc. but that was about it. Ravenclaws were… Strange.

It wasn’t strange to find someone pressing their forehead against the wall, trying to create a telepathic connection to the castle; or people wearing bizarre clothing and saying all kinds of senseless stuff. And even when that was funny, even interesting, at times, (Y/N) just couldn’t relate completely.

She missed her home, she missed her friends, she missed her old school, and she missed everything.

(Y/N), who was really smart, dedicated her alone time to study, which made her become one of the best students in each and every single one of her classes. So when the first exams came, she was not even a bit nervous.

“Psst…. Pssst…” Someone started. Professor McGonagall gave said student a stern glance.

The exam was long, and there were some easy questions and some other that, everyone except (Y/N), felt like ripping their eyes off with the wands rather than figuring them out. One of those was Fred Weasley, who continued to try and call (Y/N)’s attention once Professor McGonagall left the room to get some extra papyrus.

“Psst… Hey, Ilvermorny…” Ilvermorny was her nickname. Some asshole Slytherin had named her like that and ever since they all called her that instead of asking for her name.

“I have a name.” She hissed, looking back at Fred.

“What’s your name, then?” Fred asked with his usual joking smile.

“(Y/N)!” She replied and turned his back again to Fred.

“(Y/N)… Psst… Psst…” He continued.

“What?” She hissed angrily, looking back again.

“I just need help with the last two… Page three… Please.” In spite of begging, Fred didn’t lose the smile. (Y/N) knew that he wouldn’t stop bothering if she didn’t help, and McGonagall was out so she sighed and agreed.

She finished her exam soon after. She got up and handed it to McGonagall, who gave her a warm smile before taking it. (Y/N) smiled back and went back to her place, only to grab her stuff and leave.

As she walked past him, Fred managed to grab her arm, putting a ball of paper on her hand before letting go. (Y/N) didn’t even flinch, she just kept walking and it wasn’t until she was quite far from the classroom that she checked what the paper ball was.

There was a strange doodle on it. As soon as (Y/N) un-balled the paper, it started moving. “Thanks for the help.” it read, “Courtyard, after lunch?” (Y/N) smiled, noticing how his doodles represented her and Fred, hanging out. Literally, the doodles seemed to be laughing… Or convulsing, maybe. His drawing skills weren’t really the best when he was doing an important exam.

(Y/N) wanted to be chill, but she couldn’t. It’s not like everyone had been awful to her, but not even her friends had even wondered what her name was. So Fred, asking her and calling her by her real name and not the stupid Ilvermorny nickname, and then asking her to hang out was kind of like a dream.

She waited patiently – not so much – for the lunch time to come. She tried to be chill, but she just couldn’t help but to let her eyes wander to the Gryffindor’s table, where she met with Fred staring at her, and smiling.

After she finished her lunch, she forced herself not to run out of the Great Hall, but rather speed-walking as elegantly as possible. Fred, who was just waiting for her to get up, didn’t lose time and caught up with her in no time.

They just smiled to each other and walked in silence to the Courtyard. They sat at one of the stone benches. The silence that followed was a bit uncomfortable, but it didn’t last long, fortunately.

“So, Ilvermorny, huh?” Fred said, “I heard it’s half the size of Hogwarts.”

“It is smaller, but only because Hogwarts is a castle and Ilvermorny started off as a house.” She explained, tired of answering the same questions. Although, Fred’s voice tone wasn’t mocking like the others, so she was not quite as upset as usual.

“Right… So do you like it here?” (Y/N) shrugged.

“I miss home, but the view at the common room is amazing.” Fred laughed.

“I once snuck into Ravenclaw’s common room… Don’t ask.” He said after the girl furrowed her eyebrows, “It was late at night and the view was almost the same as the one at the Astronomy Tower.”

For half an hour, Fred and (Y/N) shared all kinds of stories and funny anecdotes. (Y/N) finally understood what everyone said about the Weasley Twins – Everyone loved them, and if they didn’t love them it was probably because they had no sense of humour at all.

Soon, an exact replica of Fred and another boy walked towards them.

“Hey, Freddie.” The twin cheered.

“Georgie.” Fred chuckled, “Dean.”

“Fred.” Dean nodded his way.

“We didn’t know you got a new friend.” George said, sitting next to (Y/N) with a flirty look. “George Weasley.” He grabbed her hand and kissed it, “What name should I put to your beautiful face?”

“(Y/N).” She giggled.

“Lovely.” George giggled as well. Fred rolled his eyes and got her attention again.

“That is my twin, George… Although you already know that.” The twins shared a glance, “And this one is Dean Thomas, the master mind behind half of our pranks.”

“Pleasure to meet you, (Y/N).” Dean smiled at her.

“Aren’t you the transferred student?” George asked.

“Oh yeah, Ilvermorny.” Dean snapped his fingers and nodded as the realization sunk on him.

“Ilvermorny is a stupid nickname.” George furrowed.

“Of course it’s stupid, a Slytherin was involved!” Fred replied.

“We won’t call you that.” George promised.

And so (Y/N) befriended the twins and the master mind. They became so close in so little time that, after two months, they included her on a prank they pulled on some last year Slytherins. Of course, when the teachers caught them, they denied her having anything to do.

Fred and (Y/N) developed a rather more profound bond. They became literal best friends, sharing everything and anything – except their massive crush for one and other.

Fred would sneak her into the Gryffindor’s common room – not that it bothered anyone, Gryffindor’s were usually nice to her since she befriended the Weasleys. She would go to The Burrow on holidays and stay up all night, by the fire place, sharing jokes with him. They would skip class together, have breakfast together (whenever it was possible), study together, spend their free time with the other, etc. They were inseparable.

Everyone was aware of their feelings for each other, and even some people thought they were dating; but teens are dumb and (Y/N) and Fred were scared to death to confess their crush. Therefore, after a while, George and Dean decided to make the first move.

(Y/N) was going to spend the last weeks of summer at The Burrow, along with Dean, Harry and Hermione. If that house looked full every Christmas when every Weasley was there, that summer was even worse.

(Y/N) slept at Charlie’s old room, Dean at Bill’s, Harry with Ron and Hermione with Ginny; and even so, it seemed like the house was full.

Molly loved (Y/N), and Arthur loved her even better because they shared their admiration for muggle’s stuff. Also, the Weasleys were never mean to her or said anything about her accent – which was slowly fading, becoming a mixture between British and American accent. By the end of the summer, Mr. Weasley ended up saying no-maj instead of muggle, which was hilarious to hear.

Every night, Fred would sneak inside Charlie’s room, only to find (Y/N) waiting for him. They would talk about everything, and Fred would show her all kinds of weird stuff - from products he and George had created for their store, to things that he created all by himself just for fun. (Y/N) on the other hand, would tell him about the books she had read, or really any kind of weird thought that had crossed her mind along the day. They found each other fascinating.

The night before Dean and George pulled their magnificent move – to which Hermione and Ginny referred to as lame – Fred and (Y/N) had an especially long night. They fell asleep mid-sentence and they didn’t woke up until the next morning. After all those night pulling all-nighters, their bodies had begged them, and forced them, to get some decent sleep.

Fortunately, George noticed soon enough and dragged his brother out of Charlie’s room before Molly got up. She would have a heart attack if she saw Fred and (Y/N) sleeping together, even if it were as innocently as they had.

Fred barely got time to process what was going on. But the sight of recently-woken-up (Y/N) stuck to his mind for the rest of the day. Her messy hair and how she squinted her eyes with the light. Her raspy voice – saying his name and something along the lines of “oh no, we fell asleep, get out before your mother kills us” – and of course just her flawless-self just lying beside him.

Molly made the boys do all kinds of house chores, and then she made the girls help her out with the dinner. Therefore, Fred and (Y/N) barely got time to talk during the day, which only added up more nerves and awkwardness to the situation. If they had gotten time to wake up and talk, it wouldn’t have been worse than an “Oh, this is odd”, “You have hedgehog hair”, a few laughs and that’s it. But by pulling them apart, they encouraged their minds to overthink the situation.

By the time dinner came, they sat next to the other but barely said a word. Everyone – except Molly and Arthur – noticed which caused some giggles and a knowing smile from George to Dean.

Molly and Arthur went to be early, claiming that they would be out early in the morning. George and Dean also left by excusing with “we’re tired from being up all night creating some new products”, Ginny got the hint and left without saying anything other than good night; the golden trio said that Harry was having a headache and that he needed both Hermione and Ron to take care of him. Percy left using his “prefects don’t clean” excuse. That left Fred and (Y/N) in charge of picking up the table and washing the dishes.

(Y/N) went for the dishes as Fred cleaned up the table. They weren’t allowed to use magic outside the school, yet. So the tasks had to be hand-made.

Fred cleaned up very quickly and ended up joining (Y/N) with the dishes. She washed, he dried.

“So, how was your day?” Fred asked nonchalantly.

“Definitely not as tiring as yours.” She joked.

“Mom likes to have many boys around to the things dad can’t do anymore.” Fred explained.

Both of them knew that the conversation wouldn’t go any further if they didn’t talk about last night. And really, it had been a really innocent accident, so there was no reason to be ashamed or uncomfortable about it. Therefore, Fred cleared his throat and decided to speak.

“It was lucky that George got me out of your room on time,” He chuckled, “mom got up five minutes after and I swear I have never sweated as much as I did this morning.”

“I know!” She giggled, “I thought we were going to get killed or something.”

Little did they know that George and Dean had asked Harry for his Invisible cloak, and were hiding at the stairs, observing their every move. Of course the cloak was a bit small, so they had to be sitting in order to be completely covered.

“I didn’t even say good morning.” Fred spoke, “Good morning, by the way.”

“Morning.” She laughed.

“Someone needs a little push.” George whispered, pulling the wand a bit out of the cloak and doing just enough magic for it to work but not much that the Ministry would send a letter.

The foam from the soap suddenly became more, and it jumped covering her nose – kind of like a foam clown nose. Fred and (Y/N) furrowed, but instead of wondering who was responsible, they burst in laughter.

“You look like a clown.” Fred commented.

“I look like you then.” She joked.

Both of them laughed once more. Then, Fred grabbed an old but clean cloth and took the foam away himself, instead of letting her do it. Of course, this isn’t a romantic movie, so instead of suddenly making out like George wanted; they just blushed a little and proceeded to finish the dishes.

Dean and George decided to go for plan B, which would probably end up in Fred hating his twin for the rest of his life but it was worth the try.

Dean called Fred to check something out while (Y/N) returned to her room. George put on Fred’s pyjamas and, after taking around twenty long breaths, he knocked on her door. She was so tired she would barely know the difference.

“Fred… What…?”

“I love you.” George spoke as his cheeks turned bright red, “I have loved you for a long while but I’m too much of a wimp and was too afraid to tell you.”

“I…” Her cheeks were bright red, and her (Y/E/C) eyes were opened widely. Her jaw dropped, and her breathing turned faster.

“Don’t say anything. Good night.” And with that, George ran back to their room, changing quickly onto his own clothes.

Dean and Fred went back to their room soon after. George was still super red, which caused Fred to get suspicious. Then, he noticed his pyjamas all scrambled around the floor.

“What did you do?” Fred asked. Of course, twins have a connection – and wizard twins have an ever stronger one, so Fred was almost certain of what George had done, but he wasn’t willing to believe it.

“Don’t hate me.” George begged, giving a step back.

“She’s my best friend, George!” Fred hissed, “What if she doesn’t talk to me ever again?”

“I don’t think…” Fred groaned, not letting his brother finish his sentence. He stormed out of their room, straight to Charlie’s.

He knocked the door the same way he would knock it when he wanted to sneak in. (Y/N) opened; her cheeks were still red.

“I…” Fred couldn’t finish his sentence. (Y/N) slammed her lips on Fred’s, who stiffened in shock for a second before melting into her arms.

(Y/N) pulled him into the room, and Fred shut the door behind him. Dean and George high fived, calling the attention of every other teen in the house.

Ginny, Harry, Ron, Hermione and even Percy got out of their rooms. They peeked from the staircase to where Charlie’s room was.

“Did it work?” Ginny asked excitedly.

“It worked.” George smiled up to his sister.

“Does he hate you?” Harry asked with half concern and half excitement.

“I don’t think Fred will hate anyone after tonight.” Percy informed from his side of the stairs. In spite of being the usual cocky-Percy, he seemed to be happy for his brother.

“Next stop, Ron and Hermione!” George cheered, high-fiving Dean again.

“What?!” Ron and Hermione asked in unison.

“Nothing, go back to bed kids.” George laughed, “Let Freddie have some fun.”

*Entended ending* (Which is ambienced the morning after)

“What do you mean you just started dating?” Molly asked as she served breakfast the morning after.

“Well, that.” Fred answered, “(Y/N) and I just started dating last night.”

“I thought she was your girlfriend ever since you first wrote about her in one of your letters.” Molly shrugged her shoulders.

Emotion and Pacing in comics

One of the reasons that I love comics so much is that there are many valid ways to approach the medium. When I make comics, the parts I’m most concerned with are character and story. Everything I draw on the comic page is in service to character and story. Because of my focus on those two elements over, say, experimenting with my art and page structure, I will sometimes get criticism that my work is safe or boring. This is probably fair criticism! I don’t do a lot of experimenting with paneling or challenging storytelling or explicitly challenging artwork in my comics, because right now that’s not what I’m interested in. Maybe I will be more experimental someday, but not right now, with the kind of stories I want to tell. :)

When I make a comic, my goal is for my readers to be engaged with the story I’m telling, and the characters in that story. That’s also what I look for when I want to read a good comic. I want characters to love, I want a story to be engaged with.

For the most part, I struggle with drawing comics (most artists do, if we’re honest ;)), but there are some parts of comics I think I have a good handle on. I feel like I’m strongest when portraying emotion on the page, and I’m good at drawing those scenes out and making the reader feel what my characters are going through. Some of the techniques I use to convey emotion came from being obsessed with movies when I was a teenager, and some techniques are stolen from my holy trinity of influences: Jeff Smith (Bone), Hiromu Arakawa (Fullmetal Alchemist) and Naoki Urasawa (Monster, Pluto, 20th Century Boys).

Of the three artists I’ve mentioned, I consider Urasawa especially to be a master of emotion and pacing. When I first started reading his comics, it was like light struck my brain; finally I saw what I’d been trying to do for years right there on the comic page in front of me! I like the way he lays out his emotional scenes a lot. Here’s an example (read right to left):

Urasawa uses repeating panels and decompression to draw out the emotions of a scene. In this single page there isn’t a lot of movement. It’s literally just two characters staring at each other, but the tension rises going from panel 1 to panel five. Gesicht (the man)’s expression doesn’t change between panels two and five, but we literally feel his anger rising off-panel, concluding in the close up in panel 5.

There’s an excellent You Tube channel called Every Frame a Painting (I’m sure you’ve heard of it, but if you haven’t, please go watch all the videos! There aren’t many, and they’re all really informative). My favourite video is this one, about editing:

This video hit on something that I strive for in my comics: emotion takes time. When I draw a scene that is emotional, when characters are struggling with something, or celebrating something, or being challenged, I want my readers to feel what the character is feeling, and one of the best ways to do that, for me, is to take my time. To give that emotion time to breathe on the page.

I’m going to use some scenes in my graphic novel The Nameless City to illustrate how I use decompression and pacing to underscore the emotion in my comics. To avoid spoilers and because this is getting a little long, I’m going to put it under a cut. Please read on! :)

1/3 Hi! First of all I wanted to confess I absolutely adore your blog, I'm always excited when you published a new post. It seems that you've been following J2 from the start, so I'm wondering do you think they are acting bolder now? Especially Jensen, he has dropped so many bombs since, I don't know, S10? The “No, not ‘hey guys’. This is for us.” and "damn is he loveable" and the almost kiss...Jensen has no shame at all, I love him.

Dear Anon,

Please accept this gift

as my apologies for taking forever and a day, as that beautiful Oasis song, and please don’t go away.

Thank you for your lovely words and I’m glad my ramblings make sense to you. There’s a name for that condition tho, when two people share in each other’s craziness, my dear friend Freud called it folie à deux.

I guess it shows that my J2 Madness has been with me for long. Yes, J2 chemistry got me good and hard on the first episode of SPN that I watched, back in 2005. I remember looking at Jensen, especially, and thinking: “man… That boy is a good actor but I guess he didn’t get that look quite right. That’s not how you look at your brother.” So, the what’s wrong with this picture made me search for the actors and, sure enough, there were rumors, of course. As for me, well…

But let’s get to your question. You’re absolutely right:  the Js have been acting bolder and bolder, especially after the move to Austin, the #AustinEra. Jensen has let his Alpha show after his Beta’s breakdown in 2015; he may have managed to avoid his boy’s breakdown in 2014 but it eventually exploded in the following year. I’d say the events that lead to Jensen’s move to Austin, made him show to the world he is an Alpha through and through—and what an amazing Alpha he is! After the 2015 Breakdown, his Alpha became even more dominant and it is now impossible, at least for me, to see him as anything but.

During the early years of J2, Jensen was much more reserved to the outer world but at the same time, they couldn’t help but show how in love they were—the difference is that they were mostly free men and the rumors didn’t fly above the radar. Their chemistry bled through the characters and all was well until people started talking. J2 were not careful. Vancouver is a liberal town with people who really don’t bother with your gayness or fame, so they started being sloppy. They ended up drawing attention from a then famous gossiper, Ted Casablanca, who probably had an ITK source, and waited until the boys premiered the movies they had filmed to start gossiping about them, linking them to Blind Vices.

Let me just make a quick pit stop here and tell you that half this info is true and the other half either a case of misinformation or purposefully twisted for effect. Jared (supposedly Judas) would never have acted like that towards Jensen. J2 were always a unit, there was nothing one would do behind the other’s back; what we see now has always been their M.O. Those were difficult times for them but they were fighting together, not against each other. So read the blinds but with a grain of salt.

The Js indeed, rumor has it, were pressured to take measures to cover their relationship, as early as 2008. Take this resurrected thread on spn_gossip, for instance:

Anon 2:

As for Jensen “I Don’t Give A Fuck” Ackles, I’m pretty sure he’s had it with bearding and PR. He’s suffered the pains of hiding himself and has seen more than his share of suffering from his loved one. I’ll tell you what: there is no need for damage control for their slips simply because the marriages, kids and wife stans have given those boys free rein to even kiss on a Con stage, I’d say. We see it every day when TinHats point something out and are attacked by #Hetards defending J2’s heterosexuality.

Most of all, I think Jesen IDGAF Ackles has had it with #Hetards. They started off just being an annoying source of awkward laughter but are now a source of second-hand embarrassment, managing to be annoying to the point of repeating stupid same questions again

and again:

And always being unceremoniously squashed by our Alpha (All hail to you, KingJensen!).

I know that 2017 seems to have started with two left feet but nothing the Js do is unplanned. These men are strategists and I believe the events we’ve seen since the beginning of the year are telling us J2 are laying the groundwork for the end of SPN, and the end of their bearding contracts. Just take a few things into consideration and a possible hidden meaning to them:

— Launching of Family Business –> DH’s and her family’s financial security

— G’s IG –> the fame she wants so much

— J2 not being seen outside work/Cons –> they’re not attached to the hip and they're obviously not together

J2 have 2017 and 2018 to carry out their plan and let their Beards walk on their own feet. Then, by the time episode 300 is done we will see changes. Do you want to bet?

answering asks!

SOME GOOD QUESTIONS UNDER THE CUT!!! idk how many ppl read these but u def should if wanna kno more abt my goofy ocs >:^)

Deep Space Nine RECAP: 6x13

Whoa wait. Somehow in everyone’s pitching of notable™ episodes to recap and season primers and what all else, I had not gotten that this one was

Wow okay!!

Season 6, Episode 13: ‘Far Beyond the Stars’

Captain Benjamin Sisko sits at his desk surrounded by a litter of iPads, like so many fallen leaves — like so many of his fallen comrades.

“The Cortez was a good ship!” he mourns to Major Kira. He had introduced the captain to his wife. And now, the war with the Dominion has taken them too.

Kira passes Papa Sisko at the doorway — Ben’s dad is finally visiting Deep Space 9! But it has not been the cheeriest visit, laden down as Ben has been with war and loss. Sweetly, his dad tells him that’s actually why he came: “I’ve been worried about you. The last couple of times we talked it seemed like you were carrying the weight of the entire Alpha Quadrant on your shoulders.”

Captain Atlas confides that he doesn’t know how much more he can bear. He wonders…he wonders if he should pass the weight to someone else. Let someone else make the decisions, have the glories and the losses. Have his command.

Papa Sisko assures Ben he will support him no matter what happens.

What then happens is René Auberjonois walking past the door wearing an old-fashioned suit & hat, which presumedly is not what he had in mind.

Why your art isn’t getting attention from professional clients. | Insight from a client’s perspective.

So a lot of you guys don’t know this, because I don’t like to show my hand, but I am actually an author and the leader of an independent business [we’re JUST getting started so nothing too flashy]; but we’ve got 2 major projects in the works and we’re going to work closely with a lot of artists/designers in the very near future.

As someone who’s been on the “other side” of it, actually seeking professional artists for quite some time, I thought I’d share some insight as to why you’re maybe not getting the responses you want when you submit your portfolio for jobs.

1: You’re too young.

| When I tell my graphic designer to find an artist, one of the requirements I have is that you must be 18 years or older. I don’t do this to be “ageist”, but there are a lot of things we’d have to take into consideration if we were to work with a minor. Here are just some of my personal reasons why I don’t work with minors.

| +Do you have your parent’s permission? Yes its just drawing, but it’d be frustrating to have to constantly go through your parents every time we wanted to work with you. You are not able to sign any sort of legal documentation [such as a contract to grant us rights to the work] and therefore they’d have to sign for you.

| +Time vs Workload. In the United States you are legally required to attend school until you are 16/17 years old. You being in class for 8 hours a day, then having homework plus whatever other obligations leaves you a very small window to work for us, vs someone who does artwork full time or controls their own schedule.

| +Ethics. When adults interact with minors there is a certain set of boundaries and power dynamics that need to be observed. I require anyone who does ongoing work for us to provide a secondary means of communication other than email; this is to make sure we can reach them if there’re any problems. It’d be inappropriate for a high school student [you] to exchange contact information with us, 25-30 year olds. While I know my team and none of them would ever behave inappropriately, this is to protect both us and you.

So I don’t work with minors period.

2: You require payment up front, but don’t want to sign a contract.

| When I purchase something online, whether it be from a store’s website or Amazon, I don’t have any problems paying up front. This is because I know it is an accredited retailer with a lot of people and systems in place that ensure I receive what I pay for within a certain window, as required by law. There is also quality control which ensures that I get exactly what I was promised.

There is no entity that holds you legally accountable aside from me. Even with a contract, the legal process is a strain on time, energy, and resources that could be better spent elsewhere. I’d have to get a lawyer. They’d have to review the contract. They’d have to determine if we have a case. We’d have to wait months for a reply and a court date, then we’d have to show up, and then pay said lawyer: meanwhile for all the time and money spent I could’ve just hired somebody else.

It’s time, its money, its an entire ordeal that isn’t even worth it for whatever work we’re getting 80% of the time anyways. “I promise!” is not sufficient for me to give you a portion of our very limited budget.

If you require your clients to pay anything before you start drawing: expect to sign a contract.

3: You have no variety/You look just like everyone else.

| I have personally looked through over 140 portfolios submitted to me and I can tell you all but maybe 8 of them: Looked. Exactly. The. Same. Both to each other and to all the other work in your portfolio.

For example: I said I was looking for an anime-style artist for my dark fantasy novel. Every single artist except 8 who showed me their work only had cutesy doe-eyed anime girls posing with pastel colors. They had the same faces, the same body types, the same poses, etc. Which is fine if that what you like to draw. But if you submit to my ad and I’m wondering “okay, but can they do a fight scene? Can they do a different style [chibi? shounen? shojo? etc] What about clothes? Weapons? Different facial expressions? Poses? Different genders?

[Seriously, why do so many of you only draw young girls/women?

If I have any male characters (like the protagonist!) then you just disqualified yourself right off the bat!

Please think about this when you’re putting your portfolio together!]

Different ages? Different skin tones? Different body types? Hair Textures?”

- Then I’m going to pick someone else.

No matter what kind of artist you are, variety is so important. Because even if someone says “I need somebody to draw a lamp!” and all you literally draw is lamps- somebody else just submitted a portfolio that looks like an Ikea catalog. Why should I pick your lamps? Especially if all your lamps look the same. If all you draw is one thing and you have no range, it looks amateurish compared to someone who can do what you can plus more.

Telling me “I can draw guys!” when your portfolio doesn’t have one guy in it, vs someone who has male and female characters at the very least- right away I’m looking at them over you.

| +You never know what someone is looking for. Don’t show them only what you think they’d want to see. It’s always best to show them a little bit of everything you can do. Your portfolio speaks for you. No matter what you tell me, the evidence is right in front of my face. Make sure your portfolio is always an accurate reflection of your skill and range.

4. You come across as unprofessional.

| This one is a little bit harder to define, but please make sure you present yourself as a professional. Even if you’ve never done this before, approach it like a job interview because it essentially is.

| +Always use proper spelling/grammar to the best of your ability. At least at first, then once you become more familiar feel free to relax a little. But you want to show people you’re taking this opportunity seriously. Someone who puts effort into their communication vs “lol ok xD” simply looks better. Your personal page/website can have whatever, but the important question you should ask is “how do I want to present myself?” If you come across like you don’t care about whatever you’re doing for me, I’m going to assume you don’t.

| +Keep your page/website active. If your page looks dead then you may get passed over for someone who appears more “present”. It can be as simple as having a blog update every once in a while or uploading a quick sketch of something, or even having a link to a twitter. Something where clients can see “Oh hey, this person is still around.” Even when there’s nothing going on, always try to have recent updates.

| +Avoid harsh negatives. This is the big secret right here folks! Having your own set of guidelines and boundaries is important for anyone. However, if the first thing someone sees when they go to your page is a giant list of things you “ABSOLUTELY WILL NOT DO!” it makes you appear inflexible.

A technique I suggest is one I call the “vague refusal”, at least when it comes to professional quarries. Instead of, for example, “NO PORN” a better phrase is “Unfortunately, I’m unable to accept work with sexually explicit themes at this time; however feel free to contact me with any other ideas you have!” This communicates 3 very important things.

|++1: That you understand and sympathize with the client’s needs [Even if you don’t really].

|++2: That you are not necessarily unWILLing, but unABLE [wording is important!]. Even if you’re unable because you’re unwilling- never say you wont, only that you cant. If they ask why then feel free to say whatever, but if a client is professional then they will not challenge your refusal.

|++3: That although you cannot do those things, there are lots of other things you CAN do, and you invite clients to approach you.

[This is a technique often used when it comes to rejection emails.]

“Hi Sarah! Thank you for your interest in a position at ___. Unfortunately we are UNABLE to offer you a position AT THIS TIME, however we will keep your application on file and encourage you to seek employment with us in the future.”

5. You can’t meet their needs.

| Sometimes you just aren’t what they need right now. Maybe your style isn’t what they’re looking for, maybe your price is outside of their budget, or maybe they need more done than your schedule allows for. Chances are it has nothing to do with you personally and it doesn’t mean you’re a bad artist. It just means that they’re looking for a very specific person right now and you simply aren’t that person. Keep drawing! Keep your portfolio up to date! Practice with expanding your range!

In Closing

I wanted to write this to give a little bit of insight to what goes on in mind of a client who’s looking through your work. Whenever an ad is posted we get hundreds of submissions so it really becomes a game of choosing people who have that perfect storm of prices, quality, and professionalism. Hopefully you guys find this helpful! I had a lot of fun writing it.

stydia au, angst.
4,779 words.

She wishes it didn’t happen like this, but it did, and it has, and there’s nothing she can do to change it now.

“In another world,” he whispers into her hair, words spilling over her temple and brushing her eyes shut, “in another universe, with a different you and a different me, we would have been together.”

In this life, though, her entire existence has been racing towards this point.

And there’s no changing it now.

His name is Stiles Stilinski, which is probably the weirdest name she’s ever heard in her life, but somehow it suits him.

They’re in the third grade and he’s moved into the house behind hers, and as she’s swinging in her backyard he climbs the tree overhanging their shared fence. His jeans are too baggy and he tears his shirt on a branch and doesn’t even seem to notice.

“What’s your name?” he asks, perched above her.

She kicks harder so that she can swing to his eye level. “Lydia.” Kick, swing. “Lydia Martin.”

“Lydia Martin,” he repeats, tasting her name on his tongue. “That’s a nice name.”

“Better than Stiles,” she says smugly, testing him.

How would the RFA++ react to an MC who works as a manga artist and has written a ton of successful horror mangas? (Also sorry for spamming you yesterday 😂 your headcanons and fics are so good!!) Thanks! ♡

hey! No worries for spamming me, I’m happy you like what I write ahhhhhh♥

also, this was a fun request, thank you!!

  • ok so he saw mc’s drawings when he was looking for a certain script
  • and though he’s lowkey scared of the rather graphic drawings, he’s impressed
  • he asks mc about it when they get home, since they never really talked about it
  • mc’s just glad he’s interested and starts telling him everything
  • zen’s never seen mc’s eyes light up this much and he just loves it
  • sure, it’s about scary stuff, but to him that’s all the more intriguing?
  • “mc, if someone makes a musical out of this, I want to play that character”
  • now mc is even more excited because that would be hella cool
  • they probably start making a manga that would fit to zen more, like character-wise
  • and he is Hyped…they’re both Hyped
  • look, they’re just so excited about each other’s work that sometimes zen makes up songs for mc’s manga and mc draws the characters he plays
  • they fangirl over each other at this point, its hilarious and adorable
  • the fans love it

  • horror isn’t his thing, really
  • but at the same time, he’s really interested about mc’s characters
  • helps with world-building! and character arcs!!
  • he loves getting all the sneak peeks and knowing what happens before everyone else
  • his college buddies hate him because he always “guesses” right
  • and then they find out about mc and call him a cheater
  • but anyways, he’s more interested in the characters and worlds they build up rather than the actual plot
  • when mc is out of inspiration, they run to him and he knows the best solutions to things
  • they made a character based off of him!
  • yoosung was so flattered
  • “…i don’t die though, right?”
  • “no, of course not! you get to live, I promise”
  • they kind of based it off how he went to Mint Eye and hurt his eye

  • horror is also not her favorite, but she’s more interested than yoosung in the genre
  • she is so impressed with mc’s drawings like wow, how
  • you should see her face when mc tells her what happens
  • “you’re cruel, mc. it’s going to be amazing!”
  • helps out more with plot and characters. especially characters
  • gets emotionally attached to mc’s characters
  • “nooo, mc!! why did you kill her, she was my favorite! she deserved so much better” :(((
  • mc just evil laughs
  • what kind of betrayal
  • when mc gets it published, she sells some copies at the cafe
  • it helps spread publicity both ways!
  • all the regulars read in the cafe and talk to jaehee about what happened
  • “I know, right?! they’re evil. but they write and draw so good!” and she smiles at mc
  • it’s adorable, really
  • jaehee also helps comes up with merch ideas!

  • he is honestly so impressed
  • this one helps with plot
  • and he is so cruel!! mc loves it they are truly an evil duo
  • but it’s also so captivating and suspenseful that people can’t stop reading
  • he helps get mc’s stuff published
  • even the guards read it
  • everyone reads it, it’s company policy oops
  • i mean, unless you really don’t want to
  • the reporters around them ask about sneak peeks
  • jumin never tells them a thing, though
  • insists elizabeth makes a cameo in one
  • of course, she can’t die
  • “hey mc, so I had an idea about what should happen to the main character”
  • “oh, do tell……holy moly that is a great idea”
  • jumin just smiles. no one knows how he comes up with these things

707 / luciel / saeyoung

  • he saw some of their stuff from the background check
  • and he was an automatic fan
  • so when he sees mc drawing a new panel, he’s like
  • “what’s gonna happen nextttttt???” “no spoilers, saeyoung”
  • somehow he manages to always guess what mc’s going to do
  • sometimes he offers better solutions
  • and helps make the character reactions more realistic, given all he’s seen
  • also offers some of his spy stories as plots
  • which mc actually uses sometimes
  • when mc has the idea to do a space horror type thing, he is first in line with ideas
  • it’s their joint creation
  • saeyoung calls it their child
  • it was his idea to have the reader fall in love with a certain character and oh look, they’re the real antagonist and now you hate them
  • spreads word by hacking into social media sites and advertises there
  • i mean…it worked

v / jihyun

  • love love loves it!
  • who cares if it’s horror, it is absolute art
  • and v’s main job is color help
  • which mc is actually very thankful for, now their manga has a different color palette than every other horror manga
  • and these characters look good
  • he also helps with symbolism and plot twists
  • spreads words through the party and his connections
  • the rfa always asks for sneak peeks, but jihyun is the Master Secret Keeper
  • he does not tell a soul, not even jumin or saeyoung
  • “why would I ruin the element of surprise for mc? that’s disrespectful to their hard work!”
  • v, please, they just want to know if someone lives
  • no, they get nothing
  • once in a while, he comes up with the most amazing plot twists, mc is so impressed
  • surprises them at one point by finding look-a-likes for their characters in case, you know, there’s ever a movie or tv show

  • this is his shit
  • helps with all the horror elements and loves everything
  • sometimes, he gets emotionally attached to a character and mc has to change the plot so they don’t die
  • they can’t stand to see the poor bean sad because they killed off a character
  • but she doesn’t tell the rest of the rfa that the plot changed, so they think she’s lying to them all the time
  • when, in reality, that was the original plan. saeran just really liked this one person
  • he’s a good drawer, too, and he helps with background sometimes
  • mc is thankful and honestly really amazed, his backgrounds are so detailed
  • he’s also a good worldbuilder!
  • part of the reason his backgrounds are so detailed is because he has some plans for horror stuff and it can incorporate the scenery
  • mc is impressed
  • totally also makes him a character that survives everything
  • he grins. grins. it’s so cute
  • “i survive? after all that?” he asks
  • “yes, you do. and you get a happy ending.” and he smiles wider

Hello^^ I recently followed you and have found your account really helpful in the small time I've followed I really love it! But besides of that I've recently started to make my own tarot deck and was wondering if you have any advice or tips about this? If not you can delete this ask, it's ok; Have a lovely day/night^^

Hey there! I’m glad you like it, thank you! ^///^

There is actually a masterpost by @thecrackedamethyst about making your own tarot deck! Since I have never made one, the tips and stuff I would give are more based on my personal associations with tarot and how I view the cards, not by any personal experience. I can still give you some, but I do suggest looking at their posts too.

Anyway, here are some of my tips for you!

Pick a theme that you want your deck to focus around; or, if not that, a style. And, yes, there’s a difference. For example, The Welcome to Night Vale deck has a theme - all of the cards center around the podcast and characters / events within it; in comparison, the Wild Unknown deck has a style - every card may not be able to fit under one category (animals, nature, etc.), but they are unified by a matching art style and presentation. If you are interested in selling your deck to other people, be wary of copyright, but otherwise, feel free to base your deck around anything you want.

From there, it’s up to you to decide if you want to go with the “standard” tarot format, or alter it a bit. The standard tarot has 78 cards; there is the Major Arcana which contains 22 cards (the Fool being numbered as zero, going all the way to the World at 21), and the Minor Arcana with 56 cards divided into four suits (generally the suits are wands, cups, swords, and coins / pentacles). This is a good place to start for making a deck, because you can find many interpretations of the cards online - you know what they’re supposed to mean, so coming up for a theme or art for them will be easier.

Creating your own unique cards, while fulfilling, is a bit more daunting a task. You need to figure out what card you want to add, and why. Is it not included in the standard 78 cards, or do you feel there is something that needs more flushing out? From there, you’ll need to come up with what the card represents, and how to interpret it in readings. Then comes the art.

Speaking of art, you should also figure out if you want your deck to contain more symbolism or abstract art. Think of the Rider-Waite tarot - the images on the cards do a fairly decent job at showing what the card itself means; each picture is its own story, that does its best to tell of what the card means and can be looked at as. A deck based more on symbolism won’t need to outright tell exactly what the card means; or, it can, but on a more personal level. This is where you get to experiment and really figure out what each card means to you, and try to find an image or collection of images that can capture that.

If you went with a theme, like a TV show, you can depict characters and scenes from that theme into the cards; for example, doing an Adventure Time tarot, like I was, I had Finn the Human as the Fool standing on the edge of a cliff, with Jake included as the dog, while BMO held the rose (I tried to incorporate some of the traditional tarot meanings into the cards as well, but that was just me, you don’t need to do that).

It may take some time for you to draw the cards - it is a long and daunting process. Don’t be discouraged! Just keep drawing and coming up with ideas. I feel it is important that you like how your deck looks. I was told it was important that you like your deck’s aesthetic when you buy it, so I feel it is the same when you make it. I think the logic behind this is, it looks good to you, which helps form a personal connection with the cards, which can then make reading them easier and provide a sort of bond.

You don’t necessarily have to use pictures, either! Something I didn’t think of. You don’t need to physically draw anything. You can write poems or use phrases, make collages, painting, embroidery stuff maybe… That weird word art thing where you just write the words in different sizes and fonts to show emphasis and whatnot; I really can’t remember what’s that called and Google doesn’t help me with shit… You get the idea I hope. Anything.

If you are looking to create a deck based around a few key words or phrases, that varies vastly from the standard tarot definitions, creating an oracle deck may not be a bad idea. I was creating a sigil oracle based on quotes from Borderlands 2.

Uh, so that’s what I can think of, I hope that helps you out a bit!

How I’d Ruin It: Batman

(thanks to The Lego Batman Movie for making my brain keep coming back to this, and also for making such awesome goddamn toys for my retail therapy needs)

While I write my own stories nowadays, the old fanfic writer in me resurfaces every now and then in the form of idle thoughts about how I’d handle certain stories I love.  Sometimes these musings lead me to one horrible conclusion: that no matter how much I may love the story in question, I’d be absolutely fuck awful at writing it.  This is because the scope of things I’m interested in writing is significantly smaller than the scope of things I’m interested in reading/watching - my muse is a pickier eater than I am.

Still, no matter how awful and off message my bastardized mental versions of these stories may be, they keep popping up now and then, demanding to manifest as stories are wont to do.  So today I’m going to exorcise one of them by summarizing it to you.

Today, my wonderful readers, I’m going to tell you how I’d utterly fuck up at writing Batman.

OK I know I said I wanted to keep reading more than I wanted to flip out on tumblr rn, but fuck it.

Worm is a good story, it’s a great story - but even more than that, it’s effective.

[Cut for moderate spoilers regarding Taylor’s characterization, and the overall worldbuilding. Also, vague discussion of general people-being-horrible sorts of things, but… yeah, this is Worm I’m rambling about here.]

A high pitched scream roared throughout the whole building. Two grown men chasing after a little girl was a sight to see. Kihyun and his wife had decided to ask Wonho and Changkyun to babysit their daughter, Kira, for the whole day which they were already obliged to do so after being saved by the couple from being kicked out from the nearby arcade.

The whole house was a total mess. Bottles, blankets, and clothes were all over the place, not to mention the toys that Kira has been playing with. Wonho and Changkyun were now busy looking for the missing Kira. Tiptoeing their way to every corner in the room, Wonho was finally able to see the tiny toes sticking out under the curtains.

A cheeky grin crossed Wonho’s face and pointed at the curtain right in front of them, making Changkyun burst out laughing. “Omo, where could she go?” Changkyun acted distressed as if he haven’t found her. “Is she in….here!” Wonho pulls the curtain open and meets the twinkling eyes of Kira. “You found me, you found me!”

The sound of Kira’s giggles filled the room. Kira was about to run away again when Changkyun got a hold of her, throwing her up in the air and catching her right on time. “Aigoo, you’re really mischievous aren’t you?” Changkyun teased and tickled Kira on the armpits, making her squirm while laughing really hard.

Wonho couldn’t help but smile at the sight. Glancing up at the clock, his eyes widen and before they knew it, they were rushing towards the kitchen with Kira in their arms. “We’ll be dead if Kihyun finds out that we didn’t feed her on time.” Wonho rattled and quickly prepped the pot on the stove while Changkyun placed Kira on her high chair.

“What are you going to cook, Hyung?” Changkyun asked and frantically paced fro and to behind Wonho. “I’ll just cook some ramen and we’ll be fine.” Changkyun was then brought to a stop. “Hyung! Are you even sure that Kihyun feeds her those junk?!”

“Well, if he hasn’t then it’s totally fine!” Wonho shrugs and was about to pour the noodles into the boiling pot when his phone rang. It was Kihyun. Nervously answering the phone, clearing their throats before they could even speak was something that Kihyun didn’t catch.

(Hey guys, did you feed Kira?)

“Yeah, we did and she loved it.” Wonho lied, only to receive a look from Changkyun. “I’ve got to go now, Ki. I have to go cook some food for us.” Before Kihyun could even utter a reply, Changkyun immediately turned the phone call off and proceeded in pouring the seasoning and noodles on the pot.

The sound of tummy rumbling caught the grown men's’ attention. It was from Kira and she was starving. When the ramen was almost cooked, Kira starts to whine and let out a cry, making Changkyun panic as Wonho immediately grabbed a character designed bowl and pours the ramen after giving it ten seconds.

Carefully placing the bowl in front of Kira, Changkyun hands her some trainer chopsticks and spoon. Wonho yelps as he remembered that Kira doesn’t like it when the food’s too hot, making him grab a fan and start cooling down the ramen.

Wonho’s arms were practically gonna fall off from the continuous flapping of arms in order to cool down her meal, however, in just an instant the ramen was cooled down for Kira to dig in. Grabbing a bowl of rice and some watered down kimchi, Changkyun places it beside Kira’s bowl and watches her eat it with slowly.

“Do you think we’ll be dead when she tells Kihyun that we fed her that?” Changkyun asked once more. “Nah.” Wonho carefreely shrugs and proceeds to the fridge, looking for some side dishes that he can mix with their rice. “Yah Changkyun, get some metal bowl and some red pepper paste.”

Mouths munching on something crunchy filled the kitchen. “Have some of the white kimchi.” Wonho places a piece of kimchi onto Changkyun’s spoonful of bibimbap before returning his attention to his own spoon. It was almost normal for the two men to feed each other. “Thanks.” Changkyun couldn’t help but groan at how delicious it was to pair the bibimbap they’ve made with some kimchi.

“Hyung, have you tried wrapping the bibimbap on some greens?” Changkyun queries as he places a spoonful of bibimbap on a lettuce and wraps it up. Wonho shakes his head in response, and this was the only response that Changkyun needs in order for him to put the wrap up to his mouth. Wonho takes the wrap with his mouth in one go before groaning in delight.

It was utterly delicious. The two of them stared at each other’s eyes while enjoying the taste of bibimbap hovering their taste buds. You can say that they were in foodie heaven until they heard someone clear their throat. And it was no other than, Kira, who has been staring at them with a pout.

“Can I have some?”

Kira’s puppy dog eyes melted the boy’s heart, making them let out an ‘aww’ before feeding her some wraps. An hour has finally passed and their lunch time was finally over. Changkyun lifts Kira off her high chair and carefully sets her down on the floor.

Dashing out of the kitchen then into the living room, Changkyun didn’t bother chasing after her as Wonho has already wiped off her face and hands. “Hyung, I’ll go play with Kira, okay?” Wonho responds with a ‘mm’, allowing Changkyun to leave the room with just one go.

Kira was already sitting down on the floor with her colored papers, pens and glue sprawled all over the coffee table. “Hm, what are you doing Kira?” Changkyun asks as he settles down beside her. “I’m gonna draw umma and appa!”

“Really? Alright, then… can I draw with you?” Changkyun cutely asked with his voice slightly raised into a high pitch, making Kira burst into giggles. Kira nods her head in response and immediately transfers her attention to the paper and colored pen right in front of her.

Her tiny littler fingers were tightly wrapped around the pen and she was in a complete trance in her own little world. Red, green, blue and yellow lines inked the thin paper.  Various colored caps were scattered around the whole living room, may it be under Changkyun’s thighs, behind Kira, on top of the coffee table, meters away from the table and much more.

Changkyun was also lost in his own tiny world as he lets out everything that was on his mind on the pink colored paper underneath his palms. Starting with a black pen, he drew the outline and slowly filled the blank spaces with different colors, adding life to it.

Wonho, who was busy wiping the newly washed dishes, was surprised to only hear the sound of the tv. Carefully placing the last bowl on the rack, Wonho dries his hands off with some towel before trudging towards the living room. Wonho was surely surprised to see Changkyun having pen marks on his face.

“Oh no, I think our Changkyun needs some mustache, Kira.” Wonho schemingly suggested with a pout. A gleeful squeal left Kira’s lips as she tackled Changkyun down on the floor with a pen on her hand. Before Changkyun could even stop and let out a protest, the tip of the pen has already grazed themselves over his upper lip and tinted it with black ink.

Wonho didn’t think twice and joined Kira, placing Changkyun’s head on his lap as he write’s his name all over his forehead, receiving a lot of approval from Kira. Fits of giggles and laughter filled the air. Wonho and Changkyun had never felt this warm feeling on their tummies again after leaving the kindergarten way back during their X-Ray days.

Changkyun was now finally free and all of them were busy doodling random things on every colored paper. Wonho couldn’t help but draw a picture of him, Kira and Changkyun happily eating some bibimbap wraps to commemorate the event that happened hours ago.

“Kira,” Wonho called out without ripping his eyes off the colored paper. “Yes, uncle?” Kira softly replied and was also focused on her paper. “Who do you like more, Uncle Changkyun and Uncle Wonho or appa?” Wonho’s eyes twinkled with mischief and waited for Kira to answer.

This was also something that has caught the ever silent Changkyun’s attention. Kira seemed to be unbothered by the thought but there was a knowing smile plastered on her face and it had an uncanny resemblance of Kihyun’s smile The dimples on her cheeks were deep that she almost looked like a cute little kitten.

Her eyes twinkled as she looked up to meet the gaze of her uncles. “I like you guys more!” There was a hint of sincerity in her voice and the boys just couldn’t get enough of it. “C’mere!” Wonho throws his arms widely before wrapping them completely on Kira’s tiny body.

“Do you want to hang out with us tomorrow?” Changkyun peered over Kira’s smiley face and ran his fingers through her brown locks. “Where will we go tomorrow?” Kira’s already hyped up by the thought of having a lot of fun with the best uncles in the whole wide word.

Wonho pulls her away from the hug and sits her down on his lap. “Do you want to go to the amusement park?”

“Ooohhh! I do, I do! Appa never takes me there since he’s too busy.” Kira sadly says with her shoulders slightly slumped in sadness. “Aww, don’t worry. We’ll ask permission from your appa when he comes home, okay?” Changkyun reassures the toddler and bloops her nose with his finger.

Suddenly the sound the door opening made everyone turn around, only to see Kihyun and his wife smiling widely at them. Kira didn’t think twice and ran towards her parents, giving them a tight hug.

“How was your day with the uncles, sweetie?” Kihyun’s wife asked and only received a smile from her daughter.” Aye, is my daughter being cheeky again?” Kihyun teased, making Kira burst out laughing.

“Uncles was really fun!” Kira beamed and squirmed out from her mother’s hold, going down to rush back to Changkyun and Wonho. “Aigoo, look at the time. I guess we have to go now, Kira.” Changkyun sadly announced and stands up to get his things when he felt a small pair of arms being wrapped around his leg.

“Oh, what’s wrong Kira?” Wonho asked with his bag and Changkyun’s bag in his hands. “Don’t leave..” Kira’s happy smile was long gone as it was now replaced with a sad pout. Tears were welling up on the corner of her eyes and even tightening her grip around Changkyun’s leg.

“Aigoo, does our Kira want us to stay over for the night and play with her a little bit more?” Changkyun picks her up and looks at her in the eyes. “Yes…” her response came out as a whisper as she fiddled on the hem of her dress. “Baby, your uncles still has work to do..” Kihyun apologetically reasoned out and caressed his baby girl’s head, only to make her burst out crying.

She threw her arms around Changkyun’s neck and buried her face on his shoulder. It was no use in denying that she has grown attached to her uncles in just a small amount of time. “Do you love your uncles?” Kihyun softly queries and only earns a nod from her.

“Do you want your uncles to be tired that they can’t play with you anymore?”

A soft ‘no’ was heard and everyone was startled when Kira makes Changkyun set her down on the floor, her head lowered as tears continued to brim down her cheeks. “Ey, don’t be sad now, kiddo. We still have to go to the amusement park tomorrow, silly.”

“You are?” Kihyun confusingly asked, taken aback by the sudden announcement. ”Yes, we are!” Changkyun beamed and finally lets out a sigh of relief when they saw the smile on Kira’s face.”And we’ll be going tomorrow morning!” Wonho glances over Kihyun’s wife then to Kihyun.

“Now, if you want to go to the amusement park with your uncles, they have to go home and rest up, baby.” Kira’s mother coos as she pickes her daughter up. “Okay..”

“Alrightie then, we better get going since [y/n]’s gonna treat us to dinner.” Changkyun remarks and was about to head out when Kira stopped them. “Wait! I have something for uncles.”

She waddled her way towards the coffee table and grabbed the colored paper that she had been working on since a while ago.

“Here.” She offers the colored paper to Changkyun and Wonho, who was tearing up at the thought. “Thank you, baby.” Wonho utters and gives her a pat on the head.

Kihyun and his wife couldn’t help but soften at the sight. Never has she really opened up to others but they were glad that it was Wonho and Changkyun being the first persons whom she opened up to first.

“Why don’t you give your uncles one last hug before they leave?”

Kira didn’t need to be told twice as she already wrapped her arms around Wonho’s neck then pulls away immediately to give Changkyun a hug. “We really need to go now.” Wonho chuckles as they were already ushered to the front door.

“Thank you for watching Kira for us.” The couple cooed and received only a smile from the two. “Take care now and don’t forget about the amusement park tomorrow, alright?”

“Don’t worry, we’ll be back tomorrow and we’ll probably bring [y/n] and Hyungwon with us.” Changkyun says and gives Kihyun and his wife a hug, only to be followed by Wonho.

“Bye guys.” The two unisons and slowly headed out to their car when they heard a high pitched scream from behind, only to make them burst into a wide smile and leave the place with their hearts beating in joy.

“See you tomorrow uncles!!”

Hey! Sorry if you have already answered this, but what programs do you use for your animations? And what's your general work flow look like? (like, do you roughly block the whole short out first/ do you rely on boards, ect). I loved the carboys animation, your work is honestly stunning!!

Hi! This ended up relatively lenghty, so find preproduction rambles, trash boards, and my favourite programs/tools under the cut:

Wow, what you're doing is being a complete ass. If you take off ever facial feature except for eyes, nose and mouth out of every anime character, NO, EVERY HUMAN, even then you wouldn't know the difference. Stop being an idiotic close minded person and think of HOW much he draws and how often he does it. Compare it to other anime, then let's talk.

Oh hey, what’s this? An easily obtained handful of Oda’s awesome women who are very easily identifiable by nothing but their eyes, noses, and mouths.

But Take a look at Oda’s male cast, take a look at his female cast, and then tell me that he draws men with the same faces all the time, just like he does with so many of the women.

Some of Oda’s men do have similar faces—Luffy, Coby, Dellinger, and Sabo all have fairly similar faces. Zoro, Kohza, Shanks, and Smoker have fairly similar faces as well. BUT they are still easily distinguished by things like their different face scars. That’s one of the biggest differences between Oda’s character designs for men vs. women. Oda’s men get face tattoos, they get face scars (over 25 of Oda’s men have facial scars, while only 1 woman (Cindry the zombie) does), and they get crazy eyes, they get facial hair, they get weird noses and unique eyebrows and more. Even Oda’s most similar male characters still have things that make their faces distinct and unique.

The problem has never been that Oda draws EVERY woman the same. Oda has created a number of diverse and awesome women. The problem is that when he wants girls to be “pretty,” they wind up mostly looking like Nami with different hair, with no real facial differences between them than things like slightly puffier lips, or eyelashes on their bottom eyelids.

In my collage of the women’s faces in OP, I did go out of my way to choose only women who looked alike—but it wasn’t very hard to do, seeing as there were so many to choose from. Some people criticized it on the grounds that I avoided women like the ones pictured above, the ones with unique faces, but that was the entire point of the collage—to show the unreasonable number of women Oda’s made that are barely distinguishable from each other.

But the men’s collage had a different purpose; it’s meant to illustrate the numerous ways that Oda has to make his characters unique, everything from crazy eyes to hooked noses to broken noses to pointed teeth and more, including the massive range of different eyes that Oda makes for his male characters. I had to go out of my way to find men with similar faces, and then I had to go an extra mile to erase their scars and facial hair and tattoos, all things that help make Oda’s male characters unique, even when they do have more similar, more “normal” (and usually regarded as hotter) faces, such as Zoro’s, Smoker’s, and Shanks’. Hell, I even had to erase Ace’s freckles. Oda’s women don’t get to have cool scars or face tattoos, so that’s not a thing I had to worry about with their collage.

There are a huge variety of ways that Oda’s men are distinguished from each other, and no two are alike, yet for so many of the women the only thing that separates them is a different haircut. A lot of people don’t care about this sort of this, but it matters to me and other people too.

(And if you still want to tell me that I’m making a point about nothing here, please read my preemptive rebuttal here before gunning for me.)
