Chapter 10 of The Supercorp/Sanvers Storybook

Summary- A surprise visit to Lena’s office leads Kara to learn something new about her new girlfriend but she can’t say she doesn’t like what she learns.

Or

Kara learns Lena has a hidden Irish accent.

A/N: Hey people! Okay so I’ve been wanting to do this little idea for a while but one thing sitting in my way was that I had never really heard how exactly Katie speaks, I figured she’d have some slight accent as I’ve been told but I never investigated for myself but once I did I can’t say I was told wrong. At any rate since my capability to type accents starts and ends with a Mrs. Lovett level cockney accent from Sweeney Todd I’m not actually going to be typing out the accent so bare with me and use your imagination for this okay? Now enough rambling let’s move on! -Harlivygirl23

New Discoveries.

It had been a long week for Kara, when she wasn’t flying around saving the city as Supergirl then Snapper was hounding her and shooting down her articles. And after a long week nothing cheered her up like visiting her girlfriend, she still broke into a goofy smile at that word, Lena. So that’s exactly what she was doing, riding up to the penthouse level office in the sleek elevator holding two paper sacks with donuts and a cardboard drink carrier with two paper cups of coffee. The elevator came to a stop and the doors opened letting Kara walk easily to the receptionist’s desk smiling at the woman typing away behind it.

“Morning Jess! Is Lena here?”

The woman paused in typing to look up at the blonde with a small smile as she took the chocolate donut offered to her before nodding towards the French double doors.

“In the middle of a conference call, she’s been arguing with the old fool for over an hour I’m sure she’d be happy to see you.”

Kara smiled her normal sunny smile.

“Thanks Jess!”

The other woman just nodded going back to typing away and answering the phone when it rang. Kara went to the doors placing her hand on the handle to open one side but paused hearing Lena on the other side. It sounded like she’d just slammed her desk phone back into the cradle way to hard before she started muttering to herself.

“Bleeding old prude! Tell me I don’t know how to run my own company!”

Kara felt her jaw start to drop, sure she’d figured Lena could speak other languages she was the CEO of a major company and she traveled a fair share and she’d have to talk to other CEO’s and suits but having a translator wouldn’t make the best impression of a powerful capable female CEO. Another sound, two thunks, caught her ear.

“Damned shoes, there goes another pair of tights ruined.”

The sound of Lena slumping into her chair told Kara at least the other woman had stopped moving around but the string of mutters still kept her jaw from closing. The sound of the intercom on Jess’s desk made her jump but relax when the voice she was used to from Lena came through.

“Jess cancel the rest of my meetings, take an afternoon off I’m not feeling very well.”

Kara peeked over her shoulder at Jess who was already typing messages to send to the clients before pressing the button.

“Is everything alright Miss Luthor? Do you need anything?”

There was a static silence for a minute before Lena spoke again.

“No, just cancel the meetings but thank you Jess.”

Jess nodded with a quick ‘yess Miss Luthor’ before sending off the emails. Kara decided it was as good a time as any to enter the office as the mumbles started again. Opening the door she poked her head in and found Lena sitting barefoot behind her desk taking her hair out of the braided bun so it curled over her shoulders before she rubbed her forehead still mumbling in the accent Kara couldn’t place and still unaware she was there. Biting back a smile the blonde toed into the room and softly shut the door but the click made Lena jolt a little and clear her throat.

“Jess I said I’m fine.”

Kara said nothing as she approached the desk then set one of the cups in Lena’s line of sight on the desk making her green eyes dart up and her lips curl into a smile.

“Kara, love, what a surprise.”

The blonde smiled softer.

“Jess said you could use a happy surprise so here I am baring gifts of coffee and donuts!”

Kara’s chuckle was infectious as Lena straightened her back and took a sip of the coffee given to her humming happily at the taste. Kara was the only person besides herself that could add just the right amount of almond milk, raw sugar and hazelnut flavoring to her coffee.

“Have I mentioned that you are my hero in pastel argyle?”

Kara looked down at her outfit. She’d put on a light blue, cream, and tan argyle skirt with a decorative belt that reached her knees, a dusty rose pink tank top, a cream knitted sweater, black flats and a little pink clutch to finish it off. Her hair was down apart from her braided bangs which were pinned behind her head, her glasses were perched on her nose and she’d foregone any makeup besides pink tinted lip gloss. It was as far of a cry from the super suit under her clothes as she could get.

“I-I’m no hero just a loving girlfriend. Come on let’s eat I’m starving and this is breakfast.”

Lena chuckled as she stood and followed Kara to the couch and sat beside her taking her pick of the donuts before watching as Kara dug in without looking at what kind she was eating. Lena laughed a little as Kara finished the donut in two huge bites making the blonde look at her confused. Smiling softly the CEO lifted her hand and carefully wiped a bit of powdered sugar from the corner of the blonde’s lips.

“You’re adorable sweetie but if you eat like that you look like you’ve dipped into bag of flour.”

Kara blushed a little and it only darkened when Lena brought her sugar dusted digit to her lips and licked the residue from her thumb smirking. They sat in easy quiet for awhile before after her third donut Kara seemed to find the words to ask Lena.

“Hey Lee how many languages can you speak?”

The CEO raised a brow as she took a drink of her coffee.

“Three maybe four, in still working on my German and my French is a little rusty, why?”

Kara mouthed a ‘wow’ before taking a drink of her own coffee.

“When I got here Jess said you were in a conference call so I cracked the door a little when you hung up and you were speaking different, you had an accent of some kind.”

Kara lifted her blue eyes from looking over the remaining donuts to meet Lena’s green eyes as she chuckled.

“You heard that? I don’t exactly flaunt that I have an accent, it gives stuffy old business men more of a reason to believe I can’t do my job as well as a man could.”

Kara scrunched her nose finding it hard to believe Lena wasn’t capable of her job, she was doing amazing things for both L-Corp and even helping the DEO try to create an kryptonite resistant suit for Supergirl and Superman, of course Lena was admit about being in charge of creating Kara’s suit prototype since she was her girlfriend and Alex had pushed back until they’d been forced to work together on it. Kara was actually kinda grateful J’onn had made them work together because it seemed to erase a lot of the tension between the oldest Danvers and the youngest Luthor since Kara had told Lena her secret and brought her to the DEO.

“I’m sure some of them have accents too! It doesn’t make people doubt their abilities.”

Lena smiled patting Kara’s knee.

“More than a few of them do dear but they are flawless British or French accents not broken Irish like me.”

Kara smiled taking Lena’s hand and kissing her knuckles lightly.

“Well they are a bunch of idiots, your accent is beautiful just like everything else about you.”

Now Lena flushed a bit but smiled scooting closer to the blonde until she was tucked against her side.

“Shameless flatterer aren’t you Miss Danvers?”

Kara smiled placing a kiss to Lena’s temple.

“I’m only saying the truth.”

Lena rolled her eyes before tucking her head under Kara’s chin before she smirked.

“Maybe I’ll have to use it more often then if you like it so much.”

She chuckled feeling the heat rise up Kara’s chest and knew the blonde’s ears and cheeks were red. After a moment Kara pressed a kiss to her hair mumbling a soft answer.

“I wouldn’t complain.”

Lena smiled again playing with the ends of Kara’s hair. She was happy Kara had decided to drop by this was exactly what she needed, just to sit with Kara listening to her talk about her plans for her next article, plans for game night, or even just listen to her ramble about the most random of topics. As long as it was Kara holding her and occasionally kissing her dark crown she was happy and content to let the world fade away.

Siblings

So, I had this thought after reading several stories about humans giving birth and not having eggs.  What if aliens do not have ‘family units’ the same way humans do, but instead raise children in more of a group setting.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Captain H'roll'ah was excited to have hired on not just 1 but 3 humans, all of whom were extremely qualified for space travel.  Even better, they were all from the same clan and so there would be no rivalry or refusal to work together because of old scores to settle.
“Captain! Three humans just came in a have taken over the dining area! WHAT SHOULD WE DO?!?” Ensign Khralhen was out of breath and panicked, but his species was notoriously afraid of humans after it became public knowledge how dangerous they were.  Not that his own was much better, but H'roll'ah knew that these humans should be here and it was probably near a meal time for them.  How could such an evolutionary advanced and apated species not figure out a way to avoid needing 3 or meals a day was beyond H'roll'ah.
“It is fine, Ensign Khralhen.  These are likely the Humans that I just signed on to the crew.  They are from the same clan, so they should work at peak efficiency,” the Captain answered, trying to put as much calm and soothing into his voice as possible, “Let us go introduce ourselves and welcome them so that the ‘pack-bonding’ can begin.”
~~
“Greetings, I am Captain H'roll'ah and this is Ensign Khralhen, our cook.”
“Nice ta meetcha! Cook, huh? Guess we best buddy up to you right quick then!” said the male.  He was average height for a human and perhaps a little on the heavy side, but H'roll'ah knew that it was likely muscle not fat.  After all, this human and one of his female companions were security personnel.
“Always thinking with you stomach, Thomas.  How about you buddy up to the Captain, so that we do not get kicked off this boat? Hmm?” said the smaller female, later identified as Samantha or “Sam” for ease.  "Small" being used only in comparison because she did not have the bulk of her clanmates.  She must be the medical officer.  H'roll'ah was worried that she would be distant from her clanmates but her body language suggested extreme comfort and trust, above what H'roll'ah felt for his own clanmates of different castes.  The third human, Laura if the captain remembered correctly, remained silent but was constantly looking around, as if expecting an attack at any moment, not that strange considering all that H'roll'ah had hear about Earth.
“Well then, please tell me what times that the three of you eat, and I will prepare food for you then.  Also, please tell me any dietary restrictions you have so that you do not have any medical incidents,” Khralhen said, realizing that the humans could be bribed with food as easily as a Con'valix could be bribed with fruits.
~~~~~~~~~~~~

(3 Months Later)

Captain H'roll'ah was surprised at how well the humans worked together.  He thought that they might exceed standard human operating efficiency by 10%, but regularly they were 20-25% better than the reported average.  They barely needed to vocalize to communicate, and they were able to remember each other’s needs and the needs of the crew extremely well.  Captain H'roll'ah decided to ask them how they did it, and if it was a clan trait, where he could hire more humans of clan “Walker.”

“Thomas clan Walker, do you have a few minutes to talk about personal matters?” The captain asked, assuming that Thomas would, since he was off shift and relaxing in the lounge.

“Sure thing, hoss.  What can I do for you?  And I hope this isn’t about my or Laura’s tattoo’s, because we had to settle a bet on that a few days ago,” Thomas answered easily.  He was a bit flippant for the captain’s taste, but his results were impeccable and the other humans followed his lead, which spoke volumes for the man.

“I was hoping that you could explain how you and your clanmates have achieved such a high efficiency rate.  You perform well above average, even for clanmates who grew up together.”

“Clanmates? Oh, that’s right! Sam mentioned that your species, and most species on this ship raise their young in a group setting and the kids hatch from eggs, right?”

“That is correct, and please do not remind me that human females carry their young in their bodies like a parasite.  The last time Sam explained that, it was enough to make all of us wonder how humans have managed to reproduce at all.” H'roll'ah still shuddered when he thought of it, and Khralhen wasn’t able to cook for 3 days after Sam had explained human reproduction.

“Fair enough, I think we reproduce more by accident that anything else, but yeah.  Me, Laura, and Sam are not clanmates like you think,” Thomas chuckled and shook his head, “We are siblings.”

“I do not know this word,” H'roll'ah answered uneasily.  In his experience, an unknown term from a human meant that something painful, gross, horrifying, or all 3 was about to be revealed.

“Sam could explain it better, and having Laura here only seems fair…” Thomas trailed off as he reached for his comm.  "Hey, brats (again with the casual disrespect), can you both get up to the lounge? Captain wants to know about siblings.“ H'roll'ah was always surprised that Thomas clan Walker could be disrespectful when asking for others to do something.

“Sure, be right up,” Sam responded.  She was likely a floor up in the medical facilities and wanted to take a break.

“Grrhhrhhgg.” Laura clan Walker had been sleeping, then, and did not want to come.

“Thanks, ladies, you can both explain family better than me.”  Now the captain was worried again because there was a second new word being bandied around.

~~~
“So, captain, a family unit for humans is very small compared to yours of Ensign Khralhen’s,” Sam explained, “A family is usually made up of the mother and/or father or a surrogate who has assumed that role and the children.  It usually numbers no more than 4-7 individuals.”
“But…But…how do you grow or develop? And to place all that burden on only one or two adults, how do they do anything else?” spluttered K'roll'ah.  He was shocked to find out that humans in the region called ‘America’ did not have an open community.
“Well, children who share 1 or both parents are called “siblings”, and they develop together.  The adults are called “parents”, and yeah, there is a definite loss of freedom involved.“
“So then, you three are…siblings?” H'roll'ah asked.
“Yes, Thomas is the oldest, and Laura is the youngest, with me in the middle,” answered Sam, “and our father bailed on us after Laura was 3 years old, so Tom became the ‘man of the house’ at 7 years old.”
THAT explained Thomas clan Walker’s attitude! Captain H'roll'ah realized that Thomas clan Walker had been in a command position and not had a commander from a young age!
“So that is why you both follow him? He is the new leader”
“Kind of, he is just the best at leading.  He knows what to do and does it well.” Laura answered, which was rare; she was the most quiet of the three.
“And the reason for your peak efficiency?” Captain H'roll'ah asked, determined to get an answer to his question.
“Well, we have known each other all our lives and spent most of those lives in close proximity to each other.  We just understand each other from the long familiarity and exposure.”
“Ah, the same way a pilot becomes better from being on the same ship, just with a person instead.”
“Exactly! And if you are interested in hiring others we are familiar with, we have some cousins, children of our parents’ siblings, who we know very well and want to get into space.”
“Then I will look them up, thank you for answering my questions."
Humans were a strange species.  Instead of focusing on a large community, they developed close bonds with only a few people who share familial ties with them.  Captain H'roll'ah did hire the 'cousins’ and they worked out very well.  The human guidebook was updated to notify captains that humans sharing close blood ties have the potential to perform at higher than normal efficiency.
~~
Now somebody write a story about a captain hiring siblings who hate/cannot stand each other!
Here’s the full transcript of Mark talking Darkiplier in the livestream
(Time approx. 3 hours, 52 minutes to 4 hours, 4 minutes into the stream. And, yes, this took forever). Thought you’d like this, maybe.
I’ve bolded stuff I find especially interesting.
~~~~~~~

Mark: Long ago, a long time ago, I liked to do these scary edits because I just felt like doing scary edits and this is how Darkiplier got born. And then what happened was over time Darkiplier became less and less about the scary figure and more about this romantic figure, and it always rubbed me the wrong way. And I kind of shied away from Darkiplier for a while. And I really really really- if I was going to bring Darkiplier, and when we thought about this, we thought, okay there should be a Darkiplier route. And that was there from the beginning, and so when I wanted to do it I wanted to do it my way, and I wanted to do it right, and I wanted to have this unending level of creepiness. And at the same time, I didn’t want to step on the toes of Antisepticeye because I know there’s a big fan base of that, and I didn’t want to get in the way of that at all and I really don’t care that there’s more than one dark personalities of people. But when I saw the opportunity to have this character here, I spent like 8 hours editing this, like just meticulously every single RBG. This is a layer, we green screened this one, I color corrected it, I separated the RBG layers I added the shakes and glitchiness every frame. I worked on the voice, too. The voice took me the longest to figure out. Like the shakes! And my computer was dying this whole time cause I put my effects on here.

Tyler: The amount of time you had to spend rendering this.

Mark: And so, the audio’s actually three separate layers. It would have been two, but Kathryn helped me out on that one to make it more clear. It’s a normal pitched layer that’s edited, echoed, reverbed, mastered, and convoluted which means it’s just thrown off to the left and right, and then it’s a deep layer of that. But then to make it really come together- it didn’t live without this center channel that wasn’t convoluted but was centered. But getting that voice right was so pinnacle, so paramount to what I wanted to come out of this. And we did like thirty minutes of shooting various versions of me talking to the camera and I wanted to pick the exact dialogue that really kind of gave away my idea of what Dark is in not a terribly obvious way.

Tyler: The other thing, this was supposed to all be one video.

Mark: But YouTube annotations, this new version doesn’t allow you to link the same video multiple times, so these are literally the old videos that I first did when Darkiplier first came about, like, these are the ones, especially this one here, and then this is my cheap knockoff Darkiplier.

Amy: Canon Darkiplier.

Mark: Canon Darkiplier. And I’m going to readily admit something. I joked about Darkiplier because it didn’t seem like something people wanted to take seriously, and I’m okay with that on certain aspects but it had diverged into multiple different facets and multiple different personalities, and everyone had their own version of Darkiplier, and I thought it was hilarious that, “Hey, here’s my version of Darkiplier, and he’s an idiot.” Like, he’s just this weird emo kid. And then I stepped back from that, like, I stepped back. And you can even- in that time, when I was doing those videos, in this era, I was not very happy. I was kind of… I was pessimistic about a lot of things. And I felt like that bled through in a lot of things I did. And that’s why even October of last year I literally made Darkiplier an emo character. And then when we were getting to this, I thought about it like very carefully and I thought back to why I did it originally, and I did it originally because, well, Darkiplier wasn’t even a thing. Darkiplier was not a thing when I was making those videos. I just wanted to make some creepy stuff. And then I thought about that, and I was like if I want to make a statement about who this is, I need to own that and I need to put something out there that is not ambiguous, because I realize that’s where I went wrong. I didn’t have a solid character so obviously, people would come up with their own versions, they would fill in the gaps where they saw fit. So, when I made this I had to embrace it fully and fine-tune it down to exactly where I wanted. When you choose the “fake” choice carrying through to this one, I really wanted that to come through, except at the end to this video, where it gets silly, but that’s because the real me comes in and the real me’s an idiot. And I’ve actually watched this over and over again because I’m listening to the takes I put in here and I’m listening to my inflection and my tone, my demeanor and I’m imagining like how to refine it better next time when I bring him back, like how to do it better.

Tyler: I remember now, I set up the table.

Mark: Yeah, you did. You set up the table we had to change it out for clear glasses because the green screen was reflecting through. But yeah, even this, like the intersplices of anger, and this is me getting real deep in the meta of Darkiplier, like if that’s even a thing that can be- let me just pause it here. I don’t read too much into this but if there’s something that I want to take seriously, I want to actually do right. So, in my mind, Darkiplier is an entirely different person from me. But, much like Warfstache, doesn’t obey the laws of physics. He exists in another world entirely and bleeds through into this one. This is sounding really nerdy of me.

Tyler: I remember the Warfstache talk.

Mark: So Completely unironically, Darkiplier is a completely separate entity from who I am. But, he admires what I’ve accomplished, and he’s very much… people picked up on this, and people thought it was really creepy, because it’s what I wanted. He’s a social manipulator. He is literally, 100% manipulative. He leads you into this false sense of security, and he wants you to trust him because he wants to take advantage of you. That is literally what I wanted for Darkiplier. And how creepy and scary that actually is from the surface. Especially in this first bit, where he says, “If dinner is what you want, then I can provide.” And I wanted this to come across in a seductive way while also masking, like, this burning rage inside that breaks through the suave nature of it. That was my clue to reveal he’s not your friend. He’s not here to help you. He’s here to use you. And that also came across when I was thinking about, like, the effects. Like, his image shatters, he separates because he’s not entirely kept together, you know what I mean? So, I wanted like the drastic impacts of the rage pulling back suddenly to the calm nature and the demeanor and this last one, I was thinking was especially telling. It’s not me trying to break through, it’s his shell cracking.

Kathryn: I love that.

Mark: Yeah? It’s my favorite of all of them.

Kathryn: That’s one’s my favorite. I have legitimately just gone and watched that bit.

Mark: Yeah?

Kathryn: It’s really good.

Mark: Oh, thank you.

Kathryn: I really like that.

Mark: Yeah. And number 1 the visuals work hard on this one, but nailing the audio- that high-pitched ringing that a lot of people were like wow that really hurts my ears, that was by design. That was supposed to hurt because listening to him- a lot if inspiration for him comes from G-man from Half-life 2 and 1, like this weird interdimensional person that seems human but is obviously not and doesn’t obey the laws of physics, and is just like this shell of a person that’s in a suit. Not a suit, literally a human suit, and is trying to figure out how to puppet it right that you believe him, but he’s really good at it. And that’s where the scariness of Darkiplier, I think, really comes from, is because he seems like someone you can trust, and he will manipulate you, and take advantage of you, and literally use you, and to me that’s terrifying. Like that’s the antithesis of what I want to be and so if I’m going to make an opposite version of me, he’s gonna be the fucking worst. Like worse than any romantic story can ever bring about. He’s fucking awful.

Amy: It was convenient, though, I like the way it goes from Relax to this, like the video “Relax,” because then people were not expecting this. But it’s so nice to have it on Valentine’s Day. It works so well.

Mark: And then came the bullshit transition that we had to do. So, this is comical in a way.

Amy: It doesn’t drag it though.

Mark: Yeah it doesn’t drag. You get the scary. Tyler’s here-

Tyler: In Mark’s suit, which I have fit in, but not the pants.

Mark: He didn’t fit, we forgot to get a tie, like, we printed out a mask, and I looked at this and was like I could try to make this creepy, and then I went, I objectively can’t. Let me throw in some punch sound effects.

Tyler: I have to make sure, cause-

Mark: He couldn’t see shoot.

Tyler: No, I couldn’t, and I had to keep moving the mask cause there was one time we did this that the mask ended up completely on the side of my head and I was just like, hey Mark, you can’t touch my face.

Amy: The convenient thing about this, though, with all the glitches is that you can hide stuff with it.

Tyler: Yeah, and there’s a reason I never let go of Mark I have no clue where anything is.

Mark: Yeah, oh man. Oh, this, oh my god. Oh, and secret Easter egg- you know who Dark is because he doesn’t have a shadow. Totally intentional and by design.

Amy: His toes are missing too, but.

Mark: Shh he doesn’t have toes he’s so scary.

Another “humans are weird” concept. Dreams. Hat if other aliens don’t dream and have no idea what it is. So we come skipping downstairs in the morning and say something like “hey Or’thn, I had the weirdest dream about you! You were pole-dancing with Michelle Obama!” and they’re all like, “what is this ‘dreaming’ you’re talking about? I would NEVER! Oh dear, did I actually do that? Is a dream another word for memory? I must have been drugged!”

Everyone in the crew had a fallback plan in case shit went south. Michael would be an electrician, Jack always wanted to work in radio, and Gavin would be a cameraman on films. Jeremy mentioned something about how he went to school for animation and Ryan perked up and went “Hey, me too!”

When someone asks Trevor what his fallback plan was, he shrugs and goes “I got my degree in aerospace engineering” and everyone stops to look at him.

“Aerospace engineering?”

“Yeah.”

“Like… like rocket science?”

“Yeah.”

“You can make rockets and here you are, doing crime?”

“C'mon, when’s the last time NASA was funded? If anything, I made a completely reasonable career choice.”

Tater headcanon/ficlet

Tater’s parents divorced when he was very young, he doesn’t even remember a time they were together (although they had an amicable relationship post-divorce). His father was a hockey player, his mother was a figure skating champion.

He grew up in Russia with his father, but would spend a couple months every year visiting his mother in the USA. She retired from competition, but continued on to be a formidable youth figure skating coach. Her students were always successful.

When Tater visits his mom, he usually tags along to her early morning practices. Truthfully, he catches a bit more sleep in the stands most days, but he does really enjoy watching the progress her students have made on days mornings when he’s well-rested.

When he’s 11 or so, his mom takes on a tiny blond boy as her newest student, and Tater absolutely LOVES watching him practice. The kid is fast learner, and young Tater has been around the best and brightest of figure skating enough to know that this boy is going to be great.

Even when Tater returns home to Russia after his visit, he still asks his mom about how the little blond boy is doing with his lessons. The next time he visits, the improvement is already staggering. Now he eagerly attend his mom’s early morning lessons to see what this talented tiny boy can do.

Tater meets him once, but the funny little American boy talks very fast and Tater has no idea what he’s saying. He manages to say “Hi” and “good skate” and then stares, completely overwhelmed by this ball of blond energy shaking his hand and talking a mile a minute. Tater knows he’s saying something nice about his mom, because the boy is smiling a lot and looks over at her a couple times, but he knows very little English, so it mostly goes over his head. Still, it makes him smile, and he’s happy his mom has found such an enthusiastic student.

The years go by, and although Tater is sad to hear that his mom’s star pupil no longer figure skates, he gets busy with his hockey career. His mother has other talented students now, and she’s back in Russia. Life goes on. It’s been years since he’s thought of the tiny blond boy…

But one day, his teammate Jack starts (does he ever stop?) bragging about how wonderful his boyfriend is, and brings him along for a fun shinny game with the Falcs to show off Bitty’s skills and speed.

“Remember last time we did this, Bits?” Jack teases his boyfriend while the other guys set up the nets.

“The boys made me do a jump in my hockey skates for the school paper,” Bitty replies with a laugh.

Tater insists on seeing Jack’s little blond boyfriend do a jump, because he does miss watching figure skating like in his childhood. Bitty obliges, and the moment he lifts off the ice, Tater is filled with nostalgia. He knew something was familiar about this energetic young man.

“Hey, little B!” Tater skates over to Bitty immediately. “You’re so good. Always jumping so high, even in hockey skates.”

“Well, it would be better if I were in figure skates, and had a bit more practice…”

“Is okay. Long time since you started hockey, yes? When you were 15?”

Bitty doesn’t think too much of it, aside from being a bit of embarrassment that Jack has told his friends THAT much about him. “Yeah, I figure skated for years before that.”

“So many championships. Good skate.”

Bitty chuckles, remembering the time he met Katya’s quiet son who didn’t speak much English. That poor shy boy had only managed to tell him “good skate” too. He was hit with a wave of déja vu. This giant of a man was about 10,000 times more talkative than that boy, but now that Bitty thought about it, he did look a little familiar. “Um… Tater? This may sound strange, but…”

“So B, you know my mom Katya, yes?”

“OH. MY. GOD.”

“We should send her selfie now.”

Tips for driving while autistic

I feel like a lot of autistic people have a lot of trouble driving and getting their license. For many people that’s okay, there’s nothing wrong with that, y'all are valid in every possible way. Unfortunately, many of us live in cities where public transportation might as well not exist, in food deserts, in situations where we do not have people who can drive us places, in cities which make bike riding life-threatening and sometimes illegal. I would like to reiterate: there is absolutely nothing wrong with not being able to drive. The fucked up thing is a system which forces people to drive. This is intended to be suggestions for autistic people in similar situations to mine: in a food desert, no public transit, not enough money to pay for uber, etc.

Tips for driving while autistic and things to be prepared for:

-if you start dissociating and don’t feel that you can drive safely, pull over if you can. If there’s no clear place to pull over, get as far to the side as possible and turn your hazards on (this is the button with two red triangles, one inside of the other)

-keep plenty of water in the car. Keep food in the car too, but to prevent mice and rats from being tempted to investigate, keep the food in tightly sealed containers.

-if you miss the turn, it’s ok. I promise, it’s ok. Just take the next turn. Usually you’ll still be able to get to your destination by taking the next turn, and if not, it’ll give you a chance to pull over and re-evaluate or turn around.

-people will use some body language to indicate what they are intending to do. A waving hand means, “you go ahead of me.” A still hand, palm out means, “I’ll go first/thank you.”

-if you’re driving down a street too narrow for two cars, and you meet a car going in the opposite direction, just pull over for a second. Or if it’s super narrow, someone may have to back out of the street. It’s not a big deal. Try to be nice in those situations and they usually will be too. For that matter, sometimes I have to swerve slightly into the lane of incoming traffic because of bicycles and that happens too. People around you will do their best to compensate, but try to make sure you’re giving them enough time and warning for them to compensate (use your turn signal or hazards and spend as little time in the wrong lane as possible).

-no one wants to crash. Usually if you do something stupid the people around you will compensate and avoid you, although you might get some honks and middle fingers (yeah, mentally prepare for that)

-in terms of speed limit, it’s usually better to match the cars around you. The actual speed on a road is usually about 5mph over the posted speed limit.

-it doesn’t matter if you are going 15mph over the speed limit. There are still assholes who will tailgate you. (Meaning they will drive really close behind your car attempting to intimidate you into driving faster) The key thing to remember is that they also don’t want to crash, which means all they will do is intimidate. Because I’m an asshole and I hate tailgaters, I usually slow down when someone starts tailgating me. Remember: do not start driving faster. Police will ticket the person in front (aka you) because that person is “setting the speed” and they will not ticket the tailgater.

-parking is stressful, especially in downtown areas. Be prepared to wander for a while looking for parking and factor that into your drive time.

-some places no longer require you to learn to parallel park. Please learn anyway if you feel able. It will make finding parking a lot easier later on.

-bicycles will always be where you least expect them. Always. Especially if it’s illegal for them to be there. Just be prepared for them being anywhere and everywhere and not following the laws of traffic at all.

-the first time it rains or snows in the fall/winter, literally everyone will have forgotten how to drive. It’s a thing. Be prepared for the roads to be chaotic

-the most difficult part is the test itself. That’s the part where you disregard everything I’ve said about how driving actually works and just obey the letter of the law the best you can. Don’t forget you can retake the test if need be. Also, there will often be reviews online talking about which DMV in your area has the easiest test route.

-I try to do meditation breathing a lot while I’m driving under stressful circumstances. It’s very helpful for me

I hope this is helpful. If anyone else has any other tips for driving while autistic, I would be glad to hear them.

Edit: I can’t believe I forgot this! I’ve found that certain types of stimming can be somewhat dangerous while driving. I’d say chewing stims are fine, vocal stims are cool, but I would hold off on the visual and physical motion stims until you’ve had quite a bit of driving practice. Auditory stims are somewhat ok, but be careful to make sure you can still hear sirens and stuff (also earbuds/headphones while driving are illegal in many places)

-turn signals can basically function as a way of telling people around you “hey, pay attention! I’m about to do something!” Even if you’re just changing lanes or are swerving around an open car door you can use them to communicate that people should be ready for you to do something unexpected.

-traffic will stop much more quickly than you expect. Always keep an eye on the brake lights ahead of you.

Everyone at the Big Hit building knew you, so when you came with snacks for everyone they could not do anything but love you even more.

Immediately one of BTS’ manager told you that they were in the rehearsal room, so smiling you did a deep bow as a thanksgiving and you headed to the rehearsal room.

It was the first time you visited the new building, but fortunately, a gentle lady pointed you in the direction you had to follow. They were all so polite and kind that you almost felt a rude person in comparison, even though your boyfriend kept saying you were the best person he had ever known.

Trying not to drop anything, you didn’t want to waste the morning you spent cooking leaving the food on the ground, you’d better squeeze the heat bag in your hand and knocked gently on the blown glass door that divided the rest of the world from the Bangtan.

A “c'mon” practically screamed at lungs gave you permission to enter and making, even more, attention you opened the door and entered, recognizing immediately Jungkook’s and Taehyung screams that greeted you enthusiastically.

“Noooooona!” Jungkook ran to help you, perhaps more interested in the food than your presence but you could understand it. Surely they were practicing for hours and they had to be all hungry.

“Hi Kookie, yes you can bring away the food….” You giggled as you approached the rest of the group, already trying to check what was in the bag. Check and scream of joy, because it was all homemade food and already just opening the zipper the scent was flared out.

You’d fix better Jimin’s T-shirt you wore, you slipped it into skinny jeans because you were smaller and even lower than him, noticing only at that moment the slightly detached look of your boyfriend. Jimin wasn’t looking at you and it was almost a surprise because his smile was always the first thing to welcome you when you went to spend some time with them.

“Aigoooo, Y/N, you cook better than Jin Hyung!” The voice of the leader rang in the room, making you laugh as you sat next to the pink-haired boy. You caressed his forearm, but the smile he made was visibly pulled so that you could be worried that something had happened before you arrived.

He hadn’t touched food yet and didn’t seem intent on doing it, which pushed you to ask him what was going on.

“Hey.. Something wrong, Chiminnie? ”

“No.”

You flinched slightly feeling his blunt response, while with the corner of the eye you would notice Namjoon’s gaze on you. He seemed worried and this did nothing but confirm your concerns.

“Are you sure..?”

“Y/N; Stop. I said there’s nothing wrong, can you just worry about your business for once?

Hey Viria, sorry to bother you but this is something I really need to talk about with someone and your blog has always been a safe space to me. I'm turning 20 this year and I've never been in love, nor have I had a boyfriend/girlfriend before. I don't know, if I'm too picky or if my standards are to high, but I never felt something like a crush before. I don't know if it's normal but I really just want to feel having butterflies in my tummy. I don't know what to do or what is wrong with me.

there’s nothing wrong with you, please don’t think this way!

There are few things I can offer about this:

- don’t feel alone if the insecurity you feel is connected to the age, you aren’t alone, there are so many young people in their twenties who hasn’t been in relationship before. Even for me, even though I had minor school crushes, I only had one relationship and it wasn’t serious and I now know it wasn’t love. So for me it happened when I turned 22.

- it might be that you feel the red flags about people and haven’t met someone you connect to yet. I know a few people who are close to their 20s but haven’t had crushes before, it’s normal too, we all are different.

- movies always make us feel like we have to be in love to be complete, because EVERY teenager is in love in the movies. They show the morally high educated girls and say they always have to be in love to be good. Don’t be too pressured by the movies; they aren’t real life.

- as for butterflies: they aren’t always good. I mentioned minor crushes I had: I used to have all the knees buckling, heartbeating too fast, and I have to say that it wasn’t the healthiest. With as much as I had of physical stuff happening, I could never even talk to that person. So..not feeling the butterflies, but feeling warm and cosy and content and just, very secure, is what I think matters more. Deep connection matters more. Attraction is important too, of course, but the physical stuff fades over time, bonding stays.

- THE LAST BUT NOT LEAST. Try looking up aromantiсism, asexuality, demisexuality. I am not the most educated person with this; but there are people who don’t feel romantic or sexual attraction towards others. There are people who need to really spiritually and mentally bond with someone to start being attracted to them. You might be aromantic or asexual or demisexual!

Hope it helps at least a bit, remember you aren’t alone and there are always people who feel the way you do! You will have it all figured out soon, don’t worry<3

Imagine your neighbor, Dean Winchester, getting jealous when he sees a guy leave your house in the morning when your parents are gone on a trip.

“Uh who- who was that exactly kiddo?”

You jumped, turning to face your insanely handsome neighbor standing very close “Oh uh” you laughed nervously “Hey Mr Winchester.” you greeted “Uhm just a friend, we were working on a project for college last night and… yeah.” you trailed off.

“Oh friend?” he raised an eyebrow, clearly annoyed if not something else too “Are you sure about that, (Y/n)? Not like I’m gonna tell your parents but bringing boys when they’re gone is kinda- well, you know.” he made a face and you frowned.

“We just had homework to do, I don’t think they would mind it that much.” you shrugged “Why are you asking though?” you couldn’t stop yourself from asking.

“Oh nothing sweetheart.” he flashed you that smile that made you weak on the knees.

“Really, cause if I didn’t know you any better I’d say you sound a little jealous.” you muttered mostly to yourself, eyes casted down but of course he caught it.

“Just curious is all, (Y/n).” he put his hands in his pockets.

“Curious? About what presicely?”

“What would you want with a boy like him when there are men twice his age than certainly know how to give a woman what she needs.” he said with a casual smirk and shrug, not looking at you, as you gaped at him.

“Doubt he even knows how to please you the right way to begin with.” he added, winking at you as your eyes widened and your face warmed up.

“See ya, princess.” he said as he smoothly walked the road to his own house.

<><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><>

His lips smashed onto yours passionately and you kissed back with just as much eagerness. Your hands knotted it’s way in his hair lightly pulling every now and then, while his hands left small bruises from where his fingertips dug into your hips.

 You moaned quietly only spurring him on further. His lips left yours and quickly found their way to your jawline. Kissing his way down your neck, leaving his mark on you. But you didn’t care, all you wanted was him.

 You pulled him back to your lips where your tongues wrestled for dominance, but you had no chance of winning. Suddenly you heard footsteps and immediately jumped away from each other and tried to make yourselves look like you hadn’t just spent the last 10 minutes heavily making out.

 You peered around the corner the both of you had been hiding behind and saw Archie walking down the hall. You pulled out your phone to inspect the marks on your jaw and neck and immediately cursed.

“Fucking hell Jughead, how the hell am I supposed to hide these!?” You exclaimed quietly as you tried to shift your shirt to hide them, but that didn’t work. He pulled off his sweatshirt and offered it to you which you gratefully took, the over sized jacket effectively did the job. You left the corner you both had been occupying first so as not to seem suspicious.

For the entirety of your relationship you both tried to hide the fact that you were dating, not wanting any of the drama that it would bring. “Hey Y/n.” Archie greeted. Jughead appeared from around the corner. “Oh… hey…” Archie greeted him awkwardly before leaving.

“What was all that about?” You asked him as his hand found its way on your hip. “Nothing, don’t worry about it.” He practically spat as he watched Archie walk away. “Whatever you say, now come on, lets go to the lounge, I needed to ask Betty for some notes.” He nodded and the both of you made your way to the said room.

 You and Jug walked over to where Betty, Veronica and Kevin were. “Hey Betty, can you lend me those notes for that class I wasn’t able to make it to last week?” “Of course.” She said as she went digging through her backpack. Kevin was the first to notice your sweatshirt. “Hey isn’t that Jughead’s jacket?” He asked as he shot the two of you a look.

“I-I.” “She was cold, I lent it to her.” “Yeah, yep. That’s- yeah I was cold and he let me borrow it.” You winced at your obvious lie but prayed they’d buy it. Kevin gave the both of you another look before deciding to drop the subject, at that moment they all heard Reggie start to speak up, this time it was about Jason Blossom’s death.

“And Sheriff Keller’s grilling me, Mantle the Magnificent. ‘Cause I’d want Blossom dead. When he was, like, the only good quarterback we had.” He looked over at Moose who had been smiling.

“And speaking of offensive tight-ends, I should’ve sent the cops to you, Moose. Because here’s another unsolved mystery. What exactly were you and Kevin doing at the river, huh? Or does being with the sheriff’s son give you a free pass Keller?” Reggie was clearly trying to start something with anyone who’d listen.

 "Reggie’s just being a blowhard, Kev.“ You heard Betty tell Kevin. "I don’t care what he says. I mean, let’s think about it. If a kid at Riverdale killed Jason, it’s not gonna be a jock, right? Now, let’s be honest. Isn’t it always some spooky, scrawny, pathetic Internet troll, too busy writing his manifestos to get laid? Some smug, moody, serial killer fanboy freak… like Jughead?"

Everyone looked at Jughead while Reggie laughed. Jughead just glared back in response as he leaned against one of the many counters. "What was it like, Suicide Squad? When you shot Jason? You didn’t do stuff to the body, did you? Like After?” Jughead rolled his eyes.

 "It’s called necrophilia, Reggie, can you spell it?“ "Come here, you little-.” Reggie had hopped over one of the couches when Archie came out of nowhere and immediately blocked a blow that was was meant for Jughead’s face. “Hey shut the hell up, Reggie.” “What do you care, Andrews?” Reggie threatened.

 "Nothing, just leave him alone.“ "Holy crap. Did you and Donnie Darko kill him together? Was it some sort of pervy, blood brother thing?” You snorted when he said that as you thought about what actually had taken place between you and Jughead on July 4th. “What’s so funny you introverted freak.” Reggie asked as he stared you down.

“Nothing just… I think it’s funny how you are such a dick all the time. I wonder if this stupid massive ego you always use is to make up for something. Are you lacking a little in the size department?” You asked with a cheeky grin. Everyone started laughing while Reggie just started at you with absolute hatred before a thought crossed his mind making him smile evilly.

“Oh, I get it. I bet you were another accomplice in this whole scheme. Which one of you held Jason down while the other killed him, huh?” “I cant say anything for Archie but I know for a fact that Jughead and I were not at all near Sweetwater River during the time of Jason’s death. So go try your little theories somewhere else.” You instantly regretted your words when you realized what you said.

 Reggie smirked as everyone else watched with curiosity. “And what’s that supposed to mean dork? What could you two have possibly been doing that could be used as a credible alibi?” He asked with an eyebrow raised. You opened your mouth but no words came out.

 "Because we’re dating, and we just happened to be getting more action than you have in your entire life on July 4th, Reggie.“ Jughead replied with a narrowed eyes and a smirk as he pulled you into his side. You along with everyone else in the room gasped. "I thought we weren’t going to tell anyone!?” You whispered loudly.

“Ooooh Reggie got burned!” Someone shouted leading to everyone laughing causing him to storm out of the lounge with a pissed off look. You looked back up at Jughead with awe and confusion all at the same time. “What? I couldn’t let him go off on my girl like that.” He simply stated making you feel all fuzzy inside as you smiled at him widely before kissing him on the cheek making him blush.

Please write a short fic about tony catching peter drinking i would die omg

“Hey, Peter,”

He froze, eyes widening as he heard the all-too-familiar sound of expensive leather brogues scuffing along the floor a few meters from him, and he turned quickly, brow furrowed into a deep V as he watched Tony wander up to him, all smiles and casual posture, hands buried in the pockets of his grease-stained jeans. He looked like he’d come straight from the workshop, stopping only to throw on a leather jacket along the way.

Why he was here at all, however, made no sense at all.

“T- Mr Stark,” Peter said, trying to communicate with him through eyebrow movements alone. If it turned out that he had to suit up and help out somewhere, he was pretty fucked, considering the fact he’d had a bit to drink at the party he’d been invited to.

Well. He said ‘a bit’. It was possibly more accurate to say ‘a fucking shit-ton’, but whatever.

Tony looked at him blankly, before shooting another smile toward the circle of people who were stood around Peter and staring quite blatantly at the both of them. “Hello, ladies and gentlemen, I’m afraid I have to take Mr Parker away. He’s an intern at Stark Industries, you know how it is. Lots of work, yadda yadda, okay bye,”

And before Peter could even open his mouth, Tony had grabbed him by the arm and snatched the solo cup out of his hand almost angrily, pulling him away from the group of people and through the crowds of rowdy teenagers that littered the huge house.

“Uh, Mr Stark, wha’dd’ya want me for, exactly?” Peter asked, speaking loudly above the blaring music and wincing at how slurred his voice came out.

It had been a weird month, okay. He was just trying it out.

Tony paused, and Peter saw him purse his lips even tighter before beginning to walk again, guiding Peter through the crowds and holding him tight as he stumbled a little.

“Hey, Parker, leaving so soon?” Flash called out from somewhere to his left, and Peter stopped turning to face him as the other boy wandered toward them. “We haven’t even begun yet, Jesus, are you a pussy or what-”

“Kid,” and suddenly Tony had let go, spinning around and walking up to Flash, who seemed to suddenly recognise who exactly Tony was, because his eyes went hilariously wide and he stumbled backward a few steps. Peter snorted involuntarily, and he saw Tony turn briefly, before shaking his head and looking back to Flash, “it seems like you’re having an absolute ball here, but I’m gonna say something and I’m only going to say it once.”

Tony looked down at Flash, eyes harsh as he drew a little closer. “Leave. Peter. Out of it. Do you understand? He is not here for you to manipulate, not here for you to bully into trying out crazy shit for your amusement-”

“Tony, what the fuck,” Peter blurted, frowning and stepping forward, more than a little put out. He’d only just managed to get accepted by Flash and all the other popular kids, and Tony was just going in, ruining it all, “you’re not my dad- don’t tell me or my friends what I can and can’t do.”

Tony turned, eyebrows raised. “Friends?” He snorted, shaking his head and walking over to Peter once more, taking him by the arm. “You haven’t called in with Aunt May for two days now,” he hissed into Peter’s ear, “she’s worried sick. You are coming with me, right now.”

“No ‘m not,” Peter pushed his hand off, looking over at Tony in anger. “You are fucking….embarrassing me…. in fron’ of my friends-”

“They are not your friends!” Tony snarled, pulling his arm again, “your friends are all currently at home, worrying their asses off because this is not like you, Peter, and they didn’t know what to fucking do, so they ended up calling me. Now you will fucking follow me out of this goddamn place right now, or I am hauling you out.”

You woke up to the sound of your alarm. As you slowly gained consciousness, the obnoxious noise echoed louder in your ears. You groaned to yourself and fumbled around for the snooze button. Finally getting the blasted thing to shut up, you groggily turned so that you could see the time. It was half past six in the morning. School started in one hour. You begrudgingly rolled (quite literally) out of bed and stumbled as you stood up. You stretched your arms above you head before yawning for what seemed like the longest time. Jeez, you were tired. Why were you so tired? Then it hit you.

Dinner. Relatives. Boyfriend. Peter.

Peter.

Closing your eyes, your entire body shifted as the memories from last night flooded your mind. You suddenly had the very strong urge to retreat back under your covers and never face the world again. You shook you head. Hiding wouldn’t help anyone. You huffed out a frustrated breath before deciding to head to the kitchen. Maybe a quick breakfast would lighten your spirits. You didn’t get very far though. Not even five steps in, your foot fell on top of a material that most definitely was not hardwood floors. You looked down to find that you had stepped on what looked to be a men’s blazer. You picked the jacket up and stared at it. It was Peter’s jacket. The one he gave you last night before you told him to leave. Before you had your emotional breakdown. Before you had ruined everything. You stared at the piece of clothing in your hands. Tears were already starting to form in your eyes, but you couldn’t make yourself look away. It was all so fresh in your mind.

“Hey, sweetie, I wa–”

You snapped your head up, blazer still held firmly in your hands, as your mom’s frame opened your bedroom door. She immediately cut off her words when she saw you. She looked down at the jacket you were holding, then back to your tear-soaked eyes. Her face filled with love and concern.

“Oh, honey,” your mom cooed as she went to wrap her arms around you.

You stood frozen for the longest time, not reciprocating the hug that your mom was offering. After a while, you finally seemed to awake from your daze and moved to embrace your mom as well. In that moment, you felt the tears that were forming in your eyes finally fall down your cheeks. You sniffled into your mom’s shoulder. She rubbed your back soothingly and whispered soft reassurances in your ear. The two of you stood like that for quite some time. Eventually, your mom backed away just enough to wipe the tears from your cheeks and look you in the eyes.

“I’m so sorry, sweetie,” she said. “If you want, you can stay home from school today. I know what you’re going through must be difficult.”

You gave your mom the best smile you could muster. The offer was extremely tempting, but you had already made up your mind that you were going to go to school today.

“N-no, it’s fine,” you replied between sniffles. “I… uh… I think I have an English test today anyway, so… um… I wouldn’t want to have to make that up.”

Your mom smiled at you, “If you say so, sweetheart. I trust your judgement.”

“Thanks, mom,” you said. You really loved your mom so much. She was so supportive and was always there for you when you needed it.

“Well, I’ll let you get back to getting ready. Love you, sweetie.”

“Love you, too.”

You watched as she closed the door behind her. Looking down, you stared at Peter’s blazer once more. You walked over to your closet, opened the door, and hung the jacket up in the very back where you could barely see it. You closed the closet door and sighed. Out of sight, out of mind. With that problem momentary resolved, you wiped your eyes one last time and set to picking out an outfit for the day. It was too late for breakfast now. You’d just have to grab a protein bar or something from the cabinet on your way out. You settled on some navy blue skinny jeans and a dark grey hoodie. You threw on your favorite black, hightop Converse and grabbed your backpack. You walked out into the main living space and kissed your parents goodbye. Quickly snatching a granola bar, you stepped out of your apartment and made your way to the train station to get to school.

As you were nearing the station, you suddenly hoped that you wouldn’t run into Peter there. The two of you normally rode the train to school together. However, you really didn’t want to have to confront your presumably ex-best friend any time soon. You sighed in relief when you managed to get in the train without spotting the boy. A small part of you was slightly disappointed though. You dismissed that thought immediately. The train pulled into your stop and you got out quietly, along with many other student-age looking people. You paused briefly at the front doors of the school. Once you walked through those doors, there was no turning back. You hoped to god you wouldn’t have too many run-ins with one certain brown haired boy.

Your wishes were instantly crushed after you turned the corner and saw Peter standing next to your locker down the hallway. He was awkwardly bouncing on his feet and glancing around, no doubt looking for you. He must have taken the earlier train to ensure he got there before you did. That jerk. You considered your choices of action. If you went to your locker, you’d definitely have to talk to the boy. If you waited until the break between first and second period to though, you could probably slip in and out completely unnoticed. You decided on the latter and turned around to head to your first period class. You couldn’t help but feel a twinge of guilt whilst walking away. Peter would probably wait there right until the late bell. He would probably willingly be tardy to first period just to get the chance to talk to you. You took a deep breath and continued walking. Your decision was already made.

Class periods one through four went by far too quickly for your tastes. The bell rang, signifying the end of fourth period and the beginning of lunch. You took your time packing up your notes before giving the teacher a small nod and heading to the cafeteria. Lunch today was going to be awful. You had no where to sit except at your normal seat with Peter and Ned. You had already wasted so much energy trying to avoid Peter thus far into the day. You partnered with Michelle instead of him in chemistry and you opted to work alone in pre-calc instead of with a partner. As you entered the busy lunchroom, your eyes immediately were drawn to where Peter was sitting. The boy was right next to Ned, as per usual. Maybe you could just casually turn back around and head to the bathrooms. Eating there didn’t sound appealing at all, but it was better than with Peter at this point. Just as you were about to leave however, you saw Peter jump out of his seat and run up to you. You cursed at yourself for not being fast enough.

“Y/N! Hey! Listen, I know you’ve been avoiding me, and you most certainly have the right to, but there’s something I need to tell you. I–”

“Please don’t,” you interrupted.

You could already feel more tears in your eyes. You couldn’t do this. Not right now. You didn’t want to hear what Peter had to say. You were too afraid it was going to be something horrible. Something that would be sure to shatter what little dignity you had left.

“No, Y/N, hear me ou–”

“No. Stop,” you declared again.

“Y/N, please, just listen to m–”

“NO, PETER! You listen to me!” you shouted at him. “I don’t want to hear what you have to say. Do you not realize how difficult it is for me to stand here in front of you and not run away after everything that happened last night?! I-I can’t even look at you right now. Not without seeing all my shame and regret reflected in your eyes and back at me. So… I want you to stop… please… and just leave me alone.”

You let out a shaky breath. Tears were running down your face yet again. You could feel all of the student’s who filled the cafeteria staring at the two of you. It was all too much. You wanted to run away and hide. So that’s exactly what you did. Before Peter could react, you turned and ran in the opposite direction. You didn’t know where you were running to, but you soon found yourself bursting into an empty girl’s bathroom a few hallways away. You locked yourself in one of the stalls and leaned against the back of the door. You cried some more as a million different emotions ran through your head. You were so distracted that you didn’t hear the bathroom door open, or the footsteps that stopped just short of your stall.

“Y/N?”

You heard Michelle’s voice echo against the walls. You froze, not knowing what to do.

“Are you in here?”

You contemplated staying quiet, but knew that Michelle was more clever than that. She knew you were in here. She would probably wait forever just for you to reply. You sighed in defeat.

“Yes, I’m here,” you mumbled.

“Do you want to come out of the stall?” she asked.

“Not really,” you replied.

There was a pause before you heard, “Alright, I’ll just talk to you from out here then. In fact, why don’t you let me do the talking and you just stay in there and listen, okay?”

You nodded your head before rolling your eyes. Michelle couldn’t see you nod from inside the stall. She seemed to take your silence as approval though, seeing as she began to speak again.

“I don’t know what is going on between you and Peter. Based on what I just witnessed in the cafeteria though, I can guess that it’s pretty serious. At least for you. But let me give you a word of advice: you need to let the boy talk to you.

"Peter’s a weird kid, trust me, I know. I like to… observe… him. I promise it’s not as weird as it sounds. Anyway, I can tell that he’s hurting by not being able to talk to you. Whatever he’s got on his mind, he’s just dying to say it, and I’m about ninety-nine percent sure that what he has to say is a good thing.

"You probably won’t believe this, but if any part of you trusts me at all, Y/N, you’ll go talk to him. I see the way you look at him. I know you have some sort of romantic feelings for him, and I’ll let you in on a little- known secret too. He makes the same exact googly-eyes at you that you make at him. It’s honestly amazing you two haven’t noticed it yet. So please, just let the boy talk to you.”

You slowly unlocked the stall door and stepped out. You stared at Michelle with a mixture of confusion and awe.

“Why are you doing this?” you asked her.

“Why am I doing what?”

This,” you repeated, “telling me all this. Being so nice to me. We barely know each other.”

“Oh,” she said, looking down at her feet. “I, uh, guess I figured since you’re a friend of Peter’s you must be a pretty alright person. Don’t tell him I said this, but I think Peter is way cooler than he gives himself credit for. I hate to see him upset. Which also means, by default, that I hate to see you upset. Whenever one of you is upset, the other one always is too. It’s like you two are connected spiritually or something. I don’t know.

"Plus, you seemed really nice in chemistry today. I usually end up working by myself since I don’t have any ‘real’ friends, but partnering with you today wasn’t all that bad. Even though I know now that you only did that to avoid Peter, it was nice that you picked me and not someone like Flash or whomever. You seem like a nice kid, and I figured since you and Peter are such good friends, you’d also be a good person to be my first 'real’ friend. It’s a stupid thought, I know.”

You tilted your head as you continued to stare at Michelle. She was quite the weirdo, in a good way of course. You liked that.

“Well, thank you,” you said. “And I’d love to be your first 'real’ friend.”

Michelle looked back up at you and gave you a quirky half-smile. Her speech really did help to lighten your spirits. She was right about the fact that you didn’t quite believe everything she said about Peter also having romantic feelings for you, but knowing that she cared really helped.

“I think I need a little more time though,” you continued. “Your speech really helped, but I honestly don’t think I’m ready to talk to Peter just yet.”

“Fine,” Michelle conceded, “but you need to promise me that you’ll talk to him eventually, and preferably sooner rather than later. I’m tired of seeing all the pining looks you two give each other when one of the two of you isn’t looking.”

“I promise,” you said, chucking at her comment.

Michelle nodded her head in approval.

“So, want to head back to the cafeteria and talk about how stupid my emotions are?” you asked.

“I thought we just went over this. Your emotions aren’t stupid. Actually, they’re probably recip–”

“I was joking.”

“Oh, right.”

“About my emotions though, not about eating lunch together,” you clarified. “Come on, we still have half an hour. If we hurry, we can probably still get the less gross looking mystery meat.”

The two of you walked back to the cafeteria in tandem. You heard a few mumbles and whispers are you walked through the lunch line and sat down at the end of the table with Michelle. Peter was just a few feet away. You could see out of the corner of your eye that he was looking at you. He looked sad, from what you could tell. He wasn’t attempting to grab your attention at all. What you said to him before really must have taken its toll. You frowned at the thought. You certainly didn’t want to hurt Peter, but keeping your distance was the only way you thought you could manage to keep your emotions under control. You took and deep breath and turned your attention back to Michelle. The two of you soon started talking about how you both had the same favorite book series. That conversation went on for ages.

The lunch bell rang and you went to go dump your tray. You and Michele figured out that you had the same fifth period, so you ended up walking to class together too. It was surprising how many classes the two of you shared without you even realizing it. As you entered the classroom, you walked past your normal seat next to Peter’s and went to sit next to Michele in that back. Peter walked into the class shorty after you and saw that you weren’t in your normal seat. You watched as his face and shoulders fell in disappointment. The two of you made eye contact very briefly before he looked away and sat down. You silently cursed at yourself for making Peter feel so upset. That wasn’t what you wanted in the slightest, but then again, you weren’t entire sure what you did want either. The bell rang and the teacher stood up in front of the class. Guess this whole mess would have to wait until later. For now, you turned your focus to the teacher as they wailed on about another historical revolution or something.

The rest of the day went by pretty smoothly. You didn’t really have to put forth any more effort in avoiding Peter. After your speech in the cafeteria, he seemed to be finally giving you your space. You didn’t know whether or not to be relieved or disappointed. There were so many variables at play that you didn’t know which ones to think about. You walked into your apartment building and smiled at the new concierge working in the lobby. That must have been the new guy that gave Peter so much trouble the night before. You scrunched up your nose momentarily. Everything always led back to Peter. It was impossible for you to escape him, even for a second. You rode the elevator to the twelfth floor and trudged your way to your apartment door.

Finally stepping inside, you dropped your backpack right at the door and shuffled into the living room. You flopped down on the couch, absolutely exhausted. You let the stillness of apartment calm your agitated nerves. Suddenly however, you sat up from the couch, nerves very much at full alert. It was quiet in your apartment. Too quiet. Where were your parents? As if on queue, your phone began to ring with a call from your mom. You answered the call a bit too eagerly.

“Hey, where are you?” you blurted out.

“Hi, honey, we’re actually at the airport right now. Your father and I got called in last minute for some long-term business trip. We’ll be gone for at least three weeks. I’m so sorry we couldn’t say goodbye to you in person. We barely had enough time to pack and get to the airport on time,” explained your mom.

“Oh,” you said, slightly stunned. It wasn’t abnormal for your parents to go away for long business trips, but you almost always got to see them off. You frowned at the idea of spending the next three weeks alone. Now was not the most ideal time to be left with nothing but your thoughts and a big, empty apartment.

“I know, I’m sorry, sweetie! The timing for this couldn’t have been worse. I hate the idea of leaving you alone after what you’ve been going through. How was school today though? Did that help at all?”

“Um… yeah, it helped a little bit. Nothing has improved with Peter at all. If anything, I think it’s gotten a bit worse, but I started talking to that girl, Michelle, today. Or rather she started talking to me. Anyway, she helped me today during a rough time. So that was nice. She’s a bit weird, but she’s cool. I think she helped lighten my mood by a fraction of a percent, which is technically an improvement.”

“Well that’s good,” your mom said. “Wait, no, that’s our flight being called right now! Don’t tell me we’re late! Sweetheart, I’m going to have to call you back. I don’t know when that will be, but you’ll find out I guess. Okay, love you! Bye!”

The line went dead before you even had the chance to react. You sighed before setting your phone down and looking around the room. Three weeks. No parents and no best friend. Just you and your thoughts. You groaned and fell back into the couch. This was going to be the longest three weeks of your life.

A/N: Sorry if this wasn’t the happy ending that you expected, but I want to make this story as realistic as possible, which means stretching the series of events out. That said, please let me know whether or not you guys want a part three to this story! Thanks for reading, and I hoped you enjoyed it!
