The Sweetest Medicine

imonthetumbler  asked:

Can I submit a word of my own? Callipygian - having or relating to beautifully proportioned buttocks. (It seemed like it belonged on the list.)

Send me a word and I’ll write a drabble.

I wholeheartedly agree with this word choice, @imonthetumbler. I hope you don’t mind, but I used this prompt to continue something I started a couple weeks ago. Part 1 and Part 2. I swear this has a direction, but obviously it also has a few more parts before it concludes. Thanks to @peetabreadgirl for *ahem* lighting a fire under my ass to get this done. Shameless pun totally intended. Enjoy!

Come On Baby, Light My Fire (Part 3)

I am not obsessed with Peeta’s ass.

I’m not.

Hey Catnip Girl!  I drew this for you when I maybe-probably-definitely was supposed to be doing my homework.  I dunno.  I just wanted to give you something (cuz I just like giving people stuff) and I like you and I know you like Keith so I drew him (in a croptop cuz I can’t remember the last time I drew him not in one) for you.  Sorry it’s kinda bad quality.  I doodled it on my phone after taking a pic of the original sketch on my graph paper.  Enjoy.

The Victory Train

Summary: “Peeta, this is your Victory Tour,” Effie, his manager, said. “You just won a Tony. You’re young and you’re talented, and you don’t need Glimmer as your leading lady.”

“Then, who is going to play Christine?” Peeta asked in exasperation. “We’re heading out in three days.”

“There’s my sister,” Prim, the young blonde who played Meg Giry, timidly offered. “She can sing.”

Art imitates life. Costume designer Katniss Everdeen is about to play the role of a lifetime.

Yours, Mine, Ours

For day 1 of Ciscoshipweek- Barry/Cisco (read on AO3)

“I’d be comfortable calling it our suit,” Cisco said, and Barry felt his chest jolt at that second-to-last word. Not just Barry’s, the one who wore it and dirtied it up; not just Cisco’s, the one who fixed it, whether that meant a soldering iron or a sewing needle. Our suit.

It sounded more important than if probably should, but part and parcel with this whole strange, new life was the way certain words had new meanings, like whenever someone commented, “Wow, that was fast.” So this was just one of those things, except it made him feel warm instead of nervous and vaguely smug. Barry resolved to hear it again.

4.03am

“Shhhhhhhhhh, Gale’s sleeping.” Madge is trying to whisper, but he can hear her all the way in the bedroom. Her whisper is what wakes him.

He doesn’t move, he keeps his eyes closed and his breathing steady. If he doesn’t move, if he doesn’t open his eyes, if he doesn’t act like he’s awake, then he’s still asleep. They’ll quieten down in a moment and then he’ll drift back into slumber.

But they don’t quieten, they just get louder as they stumble into the apartment. They’ve kept their shoes on too. That’s how Gale knows Madge is drunk. She’s fastidious about making everybody who enters their apartment remove their shoes; she would certainly not allow them to walk all over her wooden floors in their stilettos if she was sober. Or maybe they stole a horse; it’s entirely possible that the loud clip-clopping he can hear is a horse, because how could five women make that much noise?

Mistletoe and Majoram

This is my so sweet @dianaflynn22. I adore her and her sister @drivebyanon. Thank you for working on something for Winter in Panem. I hope that the both of you have a wonderful holiday!!

Enjoy!!

Summary: Thanks to a disastrous Christmas party, all Katniss wanted to do on Christmas Eve was spend time watching Disney movies in her PJs. Socializing be damned. But a power outage will force her hang out with the last person she wants to see.

I’ve decided that that the song Feliz Navidad combined with Christmas parties may be my own personal hell. It’s not like the song isn’t fun the first time you hear it, but it’s the fourth time I’ve heard it today alone. And now it’s being sung very loudly and drunkenly by my apartment neighbors. No amount of the cheap beer provided can make this situation any better. To top it off I feel like a big dork in my tacky Christmas sweater my roommate insisted everyone would be wearing. News flash, I’m the only one wearing one.

I thought this sort of B.S. college meet-up was relegated to the freshman dorms, but I was wrong. Very wrong. Johanna insisted I get to know someone besides her in the apartment building. I do know people, well some of their names. And I’d like to know one of them more. But my roommate is gone, the only other person I want to talk to isn’t here and I’m finding it really hard to make inane chatter with anyone else so I’m pouring myself a beer before I make my escape.

Prompt 15: Modern AU. Peeta has a life-threatening heart condition and is in dire need of a new heart. Katniss just lost her sister in a terrible car accident. Their paths cross when Prim’s heart is donated to Peeta, just in time as his condition goes from bad to worse and all hope seems lost. Once recovered, Peeta is determined to meet the family of the girl whose heart saved his life, never expecting to find love along the way. <3 [submitted by Anonymous]

Author’s note: Much thanks to my bestie thesaltywinteradult for looking over this several times and listening to me drone on and on about all my works. The title comes from the Evanescence song My Immortal, which really fits the story. When I originally picked this prompt, I thought about the movie Return to Me, but then it took a large turn. I still kept a line from the movie in here, so if you know it see if you can spot it. This is only the first half. I may do the second one of these days…

———

Katniss stopped outside of the new bakery everyone had been raving about. It had started going up a few months before when she was still trying to get back to regular life. The extra people weren’t a pleasant sight when all she wanted to do was stay in bed instead of facing anyone. Work was hard enough, even with Gale there.

She walked in and stopped at the sight of a beautifully decorated cake, small and round with orange tiger lilies all down the side. Prim loved orange tiger lilies. And it was just a few days from her birthday.

Katniss swallowed hard to keep the tears from falling, covering her mouth to hold back the cry she hated letting go in public.

“How can I help you?” A young man asked from behind the counter. His blue eyes sparkled with kindness to match his welcoming smile.

She pointed to the cake. “I’d like that cake, please.” Not that I need it.

“Sure.” He pulled it out and smiled as he reached for a box. “Special occasion?”

“My sister’s birthday.” She whispered, a rogue tear fell from her eye.

“I can write a message on it.” He offered. Taking a look at her face he added, “No extra charge.”

Katniss wiped at the tears falling freely and shook her head. “No, thank you.” This was a bad idea.

Looking a bit awkward, the young man took a napkin off the top of the display case and handed it over. “Are you okay, miss?”

She shook her head. “I don’t need the cake.” She turned and walked home as quickly as she could, weaving in and out of the crowd.

Prom Season

Prim looked up from her teen magazine and sighed dramatically. “I wish I was going to prom,” she said, twirling her hair around one finger and gazing at Katniss.

“I’m sure you will, in about five years,” Katniss replied absently, before turning back to her essay on The Scarlet Letter.

Prim huffed and Katniss shook her head. Where did that even come from? Did Prim even know anyone going to prom?

——-

“I just want you to be safe, sweetie,” her mom said, and handed Katniss a small box.

“Uh, thanks?” Katniss took the box from her mother’s hand, and looked down at it a moment later. When she realized what it was, she was so startled that she dropped it on the floor. “Mom!”

“It’s important to protect yourselves every time,” her mother said, stooping to pick up the package of condoms that had landed near her feet. “Even the first time, it’s possible—”

“Mom, I’m not having this conversation—”

“Then take the box, and promise me you’ll use them, and we don’t have to discuss it again.”

“Ugh, fine.”

She stuffed the box into the back of her underwear drawer and tried to forget it was there. Why would her mom even think of that? Katniss wasn’t dating anyone, much less having sex.

——-

Peeta Mellark was looking at her again, from across the lunchroom. All around him, the wrestling team was a hive of activity, pushing and laughing and shouting at one another, but Peeta sat perfectly still in the middle of the table and watched her. His blue eyes were bright from three tables away.

Katniss bit her lip and held his gaze. She could feel her heart beating faster and faster in her chest, and her cheeks growing hotter. He was gorgeous, with those blond curls and broad shoulders, and those soft lips she just wanted to—

“Hey, Catnip.” Gale dropped into the seat next to her and took out his lunch. “Whatcha looking at?”

Katniss glanced back at the wrestling team’s table, but Peeta’s face was turned away now.

“Nothing,” she said, and felt her stomach sink. Had she imagined the whole thing?

——-

“Darius asked me to prom today,” Madge announced, as Katniss sliced open an embalmed frog on the table between them.

“You should probably look at the frog,” Katniss said. “You know Coin’s gonna put this on the test.”

“Gross,” Madge said, but leaned in anyway. “Is that its stomach?”

Katniss nodded. “So you told him no?”

“I said yes,” Madge said, shrugging. “He’s nice. We’ll have fun.”

Katniss set the scalpel down and looked up at Madge through her safety goggles. “He’s nice,” she echoed. “I thought you liked Gale.”

Madge backed away so fast that she nearly fell off her stool. “I— What do you— That’s not— Why would you even— What?”

Katniss just raised her eyebrows and waited. This sort of reaction was what made it obvious that Madge was interested in Gale. She couldn’t even string together a simple sentence about him, and this girl was the co-captain of the debate team.

“Is there a problem, ladies?” Ms. Coin called from the front of the room, in a tone of voice that made it sound more like a command and less like a question.

“We’re fine, thanks,” Madge said, with a wide and totally fake-looking smile. Then she leaned close and hissed, “I’m pretty sure he’s taken, Katniss.”

Frowning, Katniss picked up the scalpel again and tried to consult the dissection manual. She thought she’d probably know if her best friend was dating someone. “He is?” she asked.

“Uh, yeah,” Madge said. Her voice conveyed extreme skepticism. “By you?”

Katniss looked up, her eyes wide with horror.

Madge nodded and spoke slowly, as if she were explaining something to a moron. “You. Are. Dating. Gale Hawthorne.”

Katniss shook her head. “No, I’m not,” she said. Gale was her best friend, that was all. And even then, lately he’d been sharing the title with Madge pretty extensively.

“Are you sure?” Madge asked.

“Uh, yeah. I’m pretty sure I know what dating involves,” Katniss said. There’d been that one time that Gale tried to kiss her, in freshman year, but then Katniss burst out laughing and Gale got the message pretty quickly. “And trust me, there’s none of that happening.”

“You hang out all the time.”

We hang out all the time,” Katniss said, motioning between herself and Madge with one latex-gloved hand. “Are we dating? Do you want to go to prom with me?”

“Uh, no,” Madge said firmly. “I want to cut up this frog and collect my A.”

——-

“Why did you say that about prom?” Katniss asked her sister, as they stood side-by-side in the kitchen, washing and chopping vegetables.

“I wish I was old enough to go,” Prim said with a sigh. “I bet it’s beautiful.”

“It’s just another dance,” Katniss said. “The only difference is that it’s held downtown, instead of in the gym.”

“Yeah, but it’ll be so romantic.” Prim stepped away from the counter and began waltzing around the kitchen with a bunch of carrots clutched to her chest. Katniss rolled her eyes.

“Did you think I was going, Little Duck?”

“Aren’t you?” Prim’s eyes were wide. “Did you have a fight with Gale?”

“No,” Katniss said, in a voice that might have been louder than necessary. Prim flinched a little. “We did not have a fight, we are not dating, and we are not going to the damn prom.”

Prim just looked at her with wide eyes.

“I’m sorry,” Katniss said immediately. She couldn’t stay angry for two minutes when Prim made that Bambi face. “Does everyone think we’re dating?”

“Everyone,” Prim confirmed, nodding. “I even heard Darius say that he’d ask you except that your boyfriend would kick his—”

“Everyone?” Katniss interrupted. “Even Mom?”

Prim made a face and nodded again. Ugh. At least that explained the condoms.

——-

It was four o’clock in the morning and Katniss couldn’t sleep. She tossed and turned in bed, then drank a glass of water, then went to the bathroom, then put on a pair of socks and removed them ten minutes later when her feet were too hot.

“I’m pretty sure he’s taken,” Madge said.

“Everyone thinks you’re dating,” Prim said.

“I’d ask her to prom myself, but her boyfriend would kick my ass,” Darius said, in her head.

Peeta Mellark’s blue eyes watched her intently across the lunchroom, until Gale showed up. Then he looked away.

Katniss sat up straight in her bed. This was not good. Not even a little. She grabbed her phone off the nightstand and opened up a new text.

You should ask Madge to prom, she sent to Gale.

Three minutes later, she got back a reply. WTF? no prom texts b4 dawn, loser.

Do it, she wrote back.

Sleep now, he replied.

——-

The next day at lunch, Katniss put her backpack on the bench beside her, so no one could sit there. She set her brown bag on the table and waited, looking around the room.

Peeta Mellark glanced up at her once, then frowned and looked away. Katniss propped her chin on her hands and didn’t bother to hide the fact that she was watching him. Staring, really. The sunlight through the cafeteria windows caught his hair and gave the curls a golden glow. Soon enough he looked up at her again, and this time she gave him a wide, slow smile. She let herself think about all the things Prim had talked about, moonlight and romance and slow dancing and holding hands, and she tried to put all that into the smile, as if she could communicate telepathically across a crowded lunchroom.

Peeta blinked twice, and turned to look backward over his shoulder, as if there might have been someone standing behind him. Even when there was no one there, he didn’t turn his face back to Katniss.

She felt the first stirrings of doubt in her stomach, and pushed them away. Even if she was wrong about Peeta, there was no downside here. Even if they’d been idiots about this, Gale and Madge deserved to be happy. Katniss could give them that. She waited.

The next five minutes passed with horrible slowness, as Katniss sat alone and ate her lunch and Peeta ignored her. Or at least, he didn’t look her way.

Halfway through her ham sandwich, Katniss heard the lunchroom go completely silent, followed by a murmur of surprise. When she looked up, she saw Madge and Gale, walking toward her with their arms around one another. The smile on Madge’s face was so bright that it threatened to take over her entire face, and she walked as if there were springs on the bottoms of her shoes. Even Gale looked happier than Katniss had seen him in a long time.

Katniss knew that the smile on her own face reflected their happiness.

When she looked around the lunchroom, she found another face in the crowd that glowed with the same warmth. This time, Peeta Mellark did not turn away from her smile. Instead, he stood and walked closer.

Ch10 Red and Green

-2015, Age 24, December 24th-

Peeta got another text from Madge. They were fighting again. Lately that’s all they did. He tried to pacify things, but it felt as if Madge looked for things to fight about. Peeta put his phone on silent. He didn’t want to read another whiny complaint.

“You okay?” Katniss asked, carrying a box of tree toppers in green and red. Effie wanted everyone to wear traditional green or red.

Katniss was in a red-orange dress, he was dressed in green. Actually, Katniss looked amazing, but when he was about to open his mouth to tell her he was interrupted.

Title: Twelve Days of Christmas

Rating: T

Characters & Pairings: Katniss Everdeen, Peeta Mellark, Prim Everdeen, Gale Hawthorne, Finnick Odair, Everlark, Gale/Prim

Triggers: Talk of people who have died in the past.

Summary: Peeta, who runs food service for the Hawthorne Gaming and Sporting Goods corporate offices, has had a huge crush on Katniss, VP of design, for about as long as he’s run the cafeteria. On Christmas, he decides to admit his adoration with twelve days of goodies.

A/N: The Twelve Days of Christmas start on Christmas Day (Dec 25) and move on to the eve of Epiphany (Jan 5). I decided to do take the song and have Peeta show Katniss some attention every day in the best way Peeta can: with food. Thanks a million to fyeaheverlark for organizing this challenge. I hope everyone reading has/had an amazing holiday and a happy New Year! And best of luck to all other participants!

________

On the first day of Christmas, my true love gave to me a partridge in a pear tree.

Katniss stepped into the cafeteria in her ugly Christmas sweater and looked around nervously. She always found Gale and Prim in the crowd first and spent most of the evening with them until it was acceptable for her to leave. She walked toward the table and sat down the pot of beef stew she’d put together for the potluck.

Home for the Holidays

Seems like I can’t get this little universe out of my head!

This outtake from Weekend Getaway is for @louezem and BellaGracie who caught on to Madge’s plan right from the start. Hope you enjoy this little bit of winter fluff.

Written for @loveinpanem’s 12 days of Christmas.

Home for the Holidays

It was a beautiful winter night. Fat snowflakes danced in the air as a gentle flurry covered the small town.

Katniss wrapped her arms tightly around her chest and climbed the steps to Madge and Gale’s front door. After ringing the doorbell, she took a step back to fully appreciate the huge holly wreath which hung from a bright red ribbon, covering the usually sober entrance to her friends’ home.

The scent of warm oranges, cinnamon, and clove tickled her nose as she waited.

Ch4 Holly

-2007, Age 16, Thanksgiving Day-

Peeta Mellark was angry at her. Katniss snuck a peek at Peeta from Miss Effie’s kitchen. At the sight of him arranging the cheese-buns, she gripped the bowl with the cranberry sauce tightly. They hadn’t spoken much since their disastrous summer. Miss Effie gave Katniss unsolicited advice. She told Katniss the disappointing summer was part of growing up. Katniss wasn’t sure, she and Peeta were arguing team. Now they were passive aggressive toward each other. They didn’t have an actual fights, like the ones Jo had with Johnny, where they screamed at each other. Their friendship turned civil and cold.

Katniss didn’t get why Peeta acted weird. He avoided her at school, and whenever she came into the bakery he hid from her. In her adolescent mind, Katniss couldn’t figure out, what she did wrong. Her grey eyes burned a hole in his back as he went into the other room. She moved from her hiding place.
