Let’s talk about how out of the 7 main characters in shadowhunters, only one of them is a straight white guy but let’s also talk about how Jace is straight white male abuse survivor because that makes him just as important to people as the other characters are
“We live and breathe words. It was books that made me feel that
perhaps I was not completely alone. They could be honest with me, and I
with them. Reading your words, what you wrote, how you were lonely
sometimes and afraid, but always brave; the way you saw the world, its
colors and textures and sounds, I felt–I felt the way you thought,
hoped, felt, dreamt. I felt I was dreaming and thinking and feeling with you. I dreamed what you dreamed, wanted what you wanted–and then I realized that truly I just wanted you.”
5 Times Dom Sherwood blew me away with Jace’s pain and inner Turmoil:
So in light of all the hate and preaching about who *DESERVES* kudosI decided to throw so appreciation Dom Sherwoods way because let’s been real they boy completely owned the last few episodes of the season.
The first scene that comes to mind is Jace begging Alec to come with him. Their was so much emotion and desperation in this scene as he is begging his parabatai to side with him. I really feel like this was the beginning of Jace’s emotional downfall. Alec turning Jace’s offer down completely broke Jace’s heart and Dom did just an amazing job making you feel that. Even in his scenes with Clary and Meliron later who could feel how parting with Alec completely rocked Jace to his core and Dom represented that perfectly.
The reveal that Micheal Wayland was alive was another outstanding scene. Dom really didn’t have too many lines but it was still amazing. Jace believed for so many years that his father had died and to see him alive and well changed everything for Jace and Dom did such a great job expressing Jace’s conflicting emotions in one closing shot. Pretty epic.
The falcon scene is really important. This is the first real glimpse at Jace’s childhood and how broken he is at the result of his upbringing. As he talks about this animal and how he wasn’t suppose to love it Dom was able to convey so much. How he feels like he disappointed his father by loving the falcon and how much his father affected every choice Jace made even after his death.
Dom has this amazing gift to convey so many emotions on his face and he literally had me in tears during the reveal. You can see Jace’s entire existence crashing around him and its so unbelievably painful to watch.
The entire finale was so well done by Dom and it makes me so excited to see what he brings to season 2. At the start of the hour Jace is so angry and willing to go as far as in takes to bring down Valentine. He puts on this I don’t give a crap facade thinking he can play Valentine’s game against him but you can literally see his face break when his father mentions hurting his friends. Of course the scene above in my favorite. You can see how hurt, broke and terrified Jace is at the aspect of going with Valentine. AMAZING ACTING!!!
can we take a moment to appreciate how amazing Luke Garroway is. He was betrayed by his Parabatai, the person who was supposed to be his brother, best friend, that person left him to get beaten and bitten by werewolves and you would think it would make him a bad person but no it just made him stronger and better. He had to restart his life, try and trust new people, get used to being a downworlder - with a new found understanding of how the other half of the shadow world lives. Having to juggle all this but still helping Jocelyn with Clary - being the father she deserved. He made sure to put Jocelyn and Clary first above everything else and when Clary met Simon he tried to protect and give Simon a fatherly figure to look up to. So that whenever Simon needed advice he’d go to Luke. Luke Garroway, has been through so much and you would think it would dim the light inside him but it only made it brighter.
