these are some vigilante starters in the pov of city street people, categorized in the forms of negative, positive and neutral.
This is a job for the police, not a mutant monster.
Why doesn’t she/he let the police handle it!
He/she/they is always getting in the way of police work!
I don’t think we feel protected with a monster on the loose!
That’s no hero. That’s someone looking for attention. ❞
That is no hero! She/he needs to be behind the bars!
This superhero person just gets away with all these crimes!
I don’t like the idea of someone flying about the city.
Why haven’t they captured this person yet?
I think this ’ hero ’ ought to turn themselves in!
You aren’t no hero. You are just another criminal.
Who gave them the right to law into their own hands?
Why is the ’ hero ’ so privileged?
I’ve had enough of this city’s crazy vigilante!
I want justice to be brought and served to this masked person!
I can’t believe people actually think this is a hero.
Oh, so, we can take justice and law into our own hands now?
This ’ hero ’ is a bad influence on our children.
I don’t want my children looking up to some criminal!
This hero has proved that this city is going to fall to anarchy.
Whoever they are, they just need to go back to wherever they came from.
❝ I think they’re doing some good for our city. ❞ ❝ No offense, but, they’re doing a lot more than the police ever did. ❞ ❝ Yeah and that superhero has saved my life countless times! ❞ ❝ They’re not a criminal, the police like working with them. ❞ ❝ I’ll have you know the police would be lost without them. ❞ ❝ Hey, I kind of like this new superhero guy/girl. ❞ ❝ Our city needs this kind of hero, have you seen the criminals lately? ❞ ❝ I think what you’re doing here, superhero, is good. ❞ ❝ You only ever see the bad in anything, never the good. ❞ ❝ What do you likes o much about this vigilante anyways? ❞ ❝ They have saved a lot more lives than anyone else could of saved. ❞ ❝ So what? The police have an extra hand with things? It’s good! ❞ ❝ I used to never read the paper, until our superhero came along. ❞ ❝ I watch the news everyday just to the masked hero. ❞ ❝ You know, they saved my life once. Just remember that. ❞ ❝ What’s so bad about breaking minor crimes to stop someone? ❞ ❝ I’m not saying they aren’t at fault sometimes but they are good. ❞ ❝ This ’ hero ’ is the best thing to ever happen to this city! ❞ ❝ I’m kind of a fan of the hero flying about our city. ❞ ❝ I feel much safer walker the streets with our new hero at large. ❞ ❝ The day this city’s hero leaves, is the day I leave. ❞
❝ Anyways, have you seen/heard about our new profound hero? ❞ ❝ Why does he/she/they have to be all dressed up for anyway? ❞ ❝ I really like the suit they fly around in. It’s nice. ❞ ❝ So, is that tights your wearing or what is that? ❞ ❝ I just wanted to say, I’ve always wanted you to save my life. ❞ ❝ What’s this suit made of? Did you make this yourself? ❞ ❝ Hey, just throwing it out, if you ever need a sidekick one day.. ❞ ❝ Do me a favor and never save my life ever again! ❞ ❝ Don’t you have a life to be saving somewhere? ❞ ❝ What is that? What was that? Wait.. is that? A person? ❞ ❝ My city has a flying superhero or something, you’ll get used to that. ❞ ❝ You totally have a crush on that superhero person. ❞ ❝ This is kind of like a movie or something, isn’t it? ❞ ❝ Why is that superhero person hellbent on hiding their identity? ❞ ❝ Maybe that superhero kills people at night, like serial killer. ❞ ❝ Whenever I grow up, I want to be just her/him/they. ❞ ❝ Wait, wait.. I just wanted to ask.. could I have your autograph? ❞ ❝ How do you ever get used to living with a flying person in the city? ❞ ❝ Have you seen the news lately? That superhero is all over it. ❞ ❝ I want to follow the superhero, see where they go, find out who they are. ❞ ❝ Let’s go on a mission to discover who this masked helper is, yeah? ❞
insecure/clingy victor makes my life 500% better because it makes him so much more realistic and knowing his character, he'd be the clingiest, most worried about losing the other. like, yuuri gets to the point where he's like "okay this is happening this is f i n e. posters? what posters? he's my husband not my celebrity crush" but they've been married for years and victor's like "I LOVE YOU NEVER LEAVE I CANT LIVE WITHOUT YOU PLEASE I N E E D I DONT DESERVE YOUR LOVE BUT NEVER LEAVE"
Awwww dang you’re right :/ The beautiful thing about their relationship is that they brought out the best in each other without even necessarily realizing what was happening. But if Victor were to slow down and think about that I think he’d realize just how much Yuuri changed his life and how much he wants/needs to stay with him.
I could picture him spilling all of this to Yuuri one night in bed and Yuuri understanding completely because he can relate Victor’s depression to his own anxiety. Then Yuuri is careful to never threaten to leave him/to never take a domestic fight too far and to reassure him that he’ll stay with him forever. But this still does make Victor clingy in a healthy way and Yuuri is happy to cling right back to him <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3
So basically my biggest hero and artistic influence just reached 10k followers and im sooooo unbelievably proud and happy for her!!
I made a tumblr account like 3 years ago and didn’t touch it because i literally had no idea what it was or how the hell to use it. So its May 2016 and literally like 5 months prior i discovered this show called star vs the forces of evil and i can honestly tell you my world turned upside down. No joke i stared at the screen and said “i don’t know who they are but i ship it” I HAVE THE SNAPCHAT!! So anyways im super new to tumblr and i final open the app and it asked me what i like.
I typed in starco (i learned the ship name through Instagram). Literally like the first post was one by a user named atomicmangos and it was of Star and Marco missing. And me being me i was like OMFG YESS MY BBYS!! I don’t think i’ve ever clicked the follow button so fast.
Another month does by and i see she does these live streams on join.me. I’ve never been to a live stream so i was actually really nervous. I downloaded the app and entered her chat room. IT WAS SOOOOO AWESOME!! AND BY FAR THE BEST DECISION IVE EVER MADE IN MY WHOLE LIFE!! There were only like 7 people there and i got to know all of them!! It was such a comfortable environment and i honestly couldn’t have asked for a better group of internet friends.
I met my current best friend because of those live streams!!
She asked us we wanted to see and i literally started throwing ideas everywhere!! I didn’t think she actually liked them until SHE ACTUALLY DREW ONE OF THEM!!
She drew 2 of my ideas. That may not seem like a lot but to a young artist it really opened my eyes and saw a new light on artist. They do listen to their fans. The thing with mangos is she doesn’t treat us like fans she treats us like family. Its like when ever i go to her streams i’m home… all her ideas and her au’s inspire me to draw.
Because of mangos i’ve now decided what i want to do for pretty much the rest of my life. I want to be an artist. Like her. I may not be the best at it but i’m trying. I know i’ll get there one day because she told me so. She’s there for you whenever you need to talk and she’s really supportive of anything you do. I am honestly soooo lucky to befriend someone like her. She’s so hard working and i know she has a lot of work with school so the fact that she makes time for us really does mean a lot. She’s inspiring and kind and talented and over all just an amazing person!! I hope we mean a lot to her like she means a lot to us. Im sooo happy and honored to be a part of her mango fam and i will never leave. Why would i! It’s my home.
Those beautiful pieces of art work above were drawing i suggested and SHE DREW THEM!! LOOK THATS MY NAME!! COMETS SAYING!! But as always creds to the Amazing: @atomicmangos
I had a dream, which was not all a dream.
The bright sun was extinguish’d, and the stars
Did wander darkling in the eternal space,
Rayless, and pathless, and the icy earth
Swung blind and blackening in the moonless air;
Morn came and went—and came, and brought no day,
And men forgot their passions in the dread
Of this their desolation; and all hearts
Were chill’d into a selfish prayer for light:
And they did live by watchfires—and the thrones,
The palaces of crowned kings—the huts,
The habitations of all things which dwell,
Were burnt for beacons; cities were consum’d,
And men were gather’d round their blazing homes
To look once more into each other’s face;
Happy were those who dwelt within the eye
Of the volcanos, and their mountain-torch:
A fearful hope was all the world contain’d;
Forests were set on fire—but hour by hour
They fell and faded—and the crackling trunks
Extinguish’d with a crash—and all was black.
The brows of men by the despairing light
Wore an unearthly aspect, as by fits
The flashes fell upon them; some lay down
And hid their eyes and wept; and some did rest
Their chins upon their clenched hands, and smil’d;
And others hurried to and fro, and fed
Their funeral piles with fuel, and look’d up
With mad disquietude on the dull sky,
The pall of a past world; and then again
With curses cast them down upon the dust,
And gnash’d their teeth and howl’d: the wild birds shriek’d
And, terrified, did flutter on the ground,
And flap their useless wings; the wildest brutes
Came tame and tremulous; and vipers crawl’d
And twin’d themselves among the multitude,
Hissing, but stingless—they were slain for food.
And War, which for a moment was no more,
Did glut himself again: a meal was bought
With blood, and each sate sullenly apart
Gorging himself in gloom: no love was left;
All earth was but one thought—and that was death
Immediate and inglorious; and the pang
Of famine fed upon all entrails—men
Died, and their bones were tombless as their flesh;
The meagre by the meagre were devour’d,
Even dogs assail’d their masters, all save one,
And he was faithful to a corse, and kept
The birds and beasts and famish’d men at bay,
Till hunger clung them, or the dropping dead
Lur’d their lank jaws; himself sought out no food,
But with a piteous and perpetual moan,
And a quick desolate cry, licking the hand
Which answer’d not with a caress—he died.
The crowd was famish’d by degrees; but two
Of an enormous city did survive,
And they were enemies: they met beside
The dying embers of an altar-place
Where had been heap’d a mass of holy things
For an unholy usage; they rak’d up,
And shivering scrap’d with their cold skeleton hands
The feeble ashes, and their feeble breath
Blew for a little life, and made a flame
Which was a mockery; then they lifted up
Their eyes as it grew lighter, and beheld
Each other’s aspects—saw, and shriek’d, and died—
Even of their mutual hideousness they died,
Unknowing who he was upon whose brow
Famine had written Fiend. The world was void,
The populous and the powerful was a lump,
Seasonless, herbless, treeless, manless, lifeless—
A lump of death—a chaos of hard clay.
The rivers, lakes and ocean all stood still,
And nothing stirr’d within their silent depths;
Ships sailorless lay rotting on the sea,
And their masts fell down piecemeal: as they dropp’d
They slept on the abyss without a surge—
The waves were dead; the tides were in their grave,
The moon, their mistress, had expir’d before;
The winds were wither’d in the stagnant air,
And the clouds perish’d; Darkness had no need
Of aid from them—She was the Universe.
This is another one of those scenes that I never really comprehend is real. I keep thinking that’s just how I remembered it in my shipper brain, but it actually happens. I’ve rewatched many times to make sure that, yes indeed, it does occur.
I’m talking about the one from Extinction, when the Convoy walks into an ambush in Vegas and “Project Alice” gets shut down. Isaacs says the word and offline she goes. She instantly becomes motionless and as a nice sign of ownership Umbrella’s logo flash across her iris. No more herself but now an inert automaton. And for the time being that’s where and what she stays as.
Meanwhile shit hits the fan and the rest of the survivors are pretty much screwed and dead in the water. Big time. Claire gets to be hot as fuck though while taking down a hoard of the undead that are going after Mikey. Unfortunately her badness is not enough to save the boy’s life (to be fair he never stood a chance, this is not the series that will keep its male characters alive, unless they’re evil), so she kills them all dead, but not before Mikey bit the dust. The action awesome of Claire gets to flow into a moment of heartbreak and anger, and then she screams her despair straight out into the Nevada desert. It’s a pretty great cry of despair. The kind that’s primal and from the toes.
And after the movie having spent minutes on the action this scream is on which we now cut back to Alice who takes that moment to start fighting the conditioning. So the events are; Alice gets shut down - a lot of bad stuff happens to all of the Convoy - a lot of screaming and dying - for many minutes - Claire shoots zombies in the head - Claire screams in anguish - Alice starts fighting back.
That’s some nice stuff right there, some A+ editing. Reads as emotional cause and effect. Suggesting that Claire in distress triggers some kind of human response and a will to resist in Alice - that’s just - that’s nice. That’s also pretty old school trope; the hero fighting off the evil influence when they’re reminded of/confronted by their loved ones. The fact that it’s Claire that gets to play that role is - interesting.
I mean it’s not as if there aren’t other options that might have been more obvious within the actual narrative of the movie (at least on a shallow note). For one you’ve got K-Mart who’s established as the child that needs to be taken care of, and Alice did have an instant connection with her and was shown to be gentle and considerate around her. Putting the child of the pack in danger is a pretty accepted way of getting an emotional response. Also could have been parallels back to the second movie and Alice saving Angie. Would have made sense and no one would have thought twice about it.
Same with Carlos, with whom Alice actually has a previous connection and history with. Not to mention that on the surface they sort of play the flirtatious angle between them (even though mostly feels like casual flirting and soldier buddies). At that point though Carlos would definitely be the closest Alice has to a loved one, if they’d accepted heterosexual surface and shallow storytelling. Luckily the movie doesn’t. Which means instead it is Claire that gets to play the agent behind snapping Alice out of her stupor and into fighting mode. Claire, the woman she met a few days ago, the woman she instantly supported. The woman Alice keeps looking at like - yeah- that’s another post.
At the end of the day though remember that the editing of this film makes it appear as if Claire is what brings Alice back, it’s Claire that triggers her resistance, it’s Claire that returns her mind to herself. That’s not even subtext, that’s text. As for the reason behind this though - feel free to sub that into pure sapphism, I know I do.
I have been wanting to make this post for a while (and I once made something similar a while back but it’s on a long lost Tumblr account lol), but it takes time to really express myself properly so let’s go!
I am bisexual, and as a K-Pop fan, it’s really hard to deal with fanservice being used, but LGBT barely being represented.
Being an ARMY already is an incredible experience, but to be an long time ARMY is something completely different. Mainly because I got to watch the boys grow, and Jungkook in particular.
When I said I have been wanting to make this post, I am talking about when I heard ‘Begin’. It was that moment that I thought, “Yes. This needs to be said, and I am gonna say it dammit”.
‘Begin’ is about Jungkook coming into his own and finding himself with the help of six older men who basically raised him. He was a small 14 year old kid who knew nothing of the world and was afraid of everything. He used to cry a lot out of fear of singing for others, he would wait until everyone was asleep to shower and even eat out of fear. The boys in each of their own ways, from Namjoon’s wisdom, Seokjin’s parental instinct, Yoongi’s life experience, Hoseok’s happiness, Jimin’s affection, and Taehyung’s ability to be himself without shame made him ‘Begin’. Through this love they gave, he came to love them so much that when they are in pain, that is where he is most in pain. Their suffering is his suffering and for me, his best traits come from two places, the people who most influence him, and his own amazing personality. Also, note that this song was something that Namjoon helped him write and Jungkook cried over because it meant so much.
Now, I bet you are wondering, what does this have to do with Pride Month?
Well, I think one of the best things I have noticed about Jungkook is that he loves unconditionally and regardless of actual orientation since we do not know and can’t assume either way, he has come to love all people, and support them…and where only a few in the industry actually are open about this, to see Jungkook speak through actions and words brings a great PRIDE in my heart, as an LGBT. Why do I focus on him? Because I think one big factor played in this: Namjoon.
Namjoon has openly expressed his support for the LGBT, and is Jungkook’s biggest influence. He has said this multiple times. So, to be raised and most influenced by an ally is amazing in itself, but let me show you a few things:
1. Jungkook hates prejudice. Notice how he just states something so serious. Now, I want to say this before anything else. This is so important due to how the rest kind of answered with what people expected.
Now, I have NO feelings that any member doesn’t support. They are all open and loving people. Hell, Jimin and JHope actually danced in video for Glam ‘Party XXO’, a song about a girl not caring if the person she is into is a boy or girl, because nothing is wrong with either, but Jungkook was a little one and this was just when his hero Namjoon was starting to influence him. Which leads me to my next point.
2. Namjoon co-wrote and co-composed Glam’s ‘Party XXO’ and Jungkook danced in the video. What’s crazy enough is that this group was a part of BigHit, which shows me that they in themselves are pretty LGBT friendly too, but that is simply speculation.
Can I state that while the song features her being attracted to the girl, the lyrics mention breaking down walls, opposition, and taking off the blindfolds to the worldview? The intention was never to fetishsize, but to just show that regardless of attraction to a gender or both, it is okay and screw the hate. Now, sadly, this group had to disband due to some very unfortunate actions of member Dahee, but still, this song exists, made by Namjoon, and debuted with BigHit, with Jungkook in the video.
3. Now, that last one could have been a collective influence due to 4 members of BTS being involved, and BigHit themselves, but these next ones are definitely where Namjoon influenced Jungkook. As we know, the two covered ‘Fools’ by LGBT artist Troye Sivan, a song made for Troye’s former lover who left him due to what most have gathered is internalized homophobia and struggles.
This is simply a cover, but I think it does play a part, seeing as the meaning behind the song is so poignant and Namjoon already stated he loved ‘Same Love’ by Macklemore even more after he learned that it was about a homosexual relationship. So, I don’t think it is merely just a cover.
4. ‘I Know’ and the actual meaning behind it. Now, this is when I noticed something interesting, but let’s talk about the song first. It was written by Namjoon for the Third Year Festa anniversary, and was meant for the fans. Now, how many fans LOVE BTS and I mean in the desire to be romantic way? I mean, we all know. This song is meant to show that Namjoon knows too. Now, there was speculation on if this song was released around the time gay marriage was once again rejected in Korea, but lets leave that alone for now.
“I know your gaze that remained on me that day is something shared between you and me that can never be replaced” - I Know by Namjoon
This is not a statement to take lightly. It means so much, and so the inclusion of the lyric ‘Know you love me boy so that I love you” is so much more meaningful.
Now, to the interesting part: Why does Namjoon make these songs with Jungkook? Like I said, no member in my opinion shows any prejudice, but there must be a reason this happens with those two. Something that is shared. I think it has a lot to do with Namjoon being Jungkook’s biggest influence, to which he states so often. I just think there is a lot more to this than some think.
5. Can we just talk about that fanboy? You know the one. The sweet boy who not only came out to Jungkook but also confessed to him AND asked him out on a date. Now, yes, I am perfectly aware of what fanservice is. I know that catering to fanboys is nothing new. Hell, I even know that pretending to accept their requests to date them is nothing new, but can we just REALLY talk about this. Jungkook said yes to the date, but what is important is what came before it. Now, translations are hard to determine, but I have got two answers.
One was: I really love Jungkook, even though I am a boy (note that because he said this, it’s him stating that his love is not a platonic love). Would you be willing to go on a date with me?
Jungkook apparently responded with what I found to be one of the two:
“Courage! Yes! (to the date)” or “You have guts! Yes!”
I do not believe a guy like Jungkook would throw away those feelings for status and approval from fans like he only is saying it for fanservice. He knows how important this is. I don’t know, I have heard two opinions: That he meant it or he didn’t want to hurt the fan by rejecting him. I happen to think the first, but either way it is no joke to him and it is NOT FANSERVICE.
I know that this post was all over the place, and I know I probably missed a lot of other things that have happened but please note that I 100% believe that Jungkook would have come to be accepting on his own, but with Namjoon there, he became more comfortable with himself. Does this mean that I think Jungkook is LGBT? Well, I do, but that doesn’t matter really…point is…
In honor of Pride Month, and coincidentally Festa Month, I want to thank Namjoon for helping our maknae grow into the beautiful person he is today, and to our maknae, who came into his own as the beautiful person he is today.
Disclaimer: This is not really relevant, but I did want to mention it. I do think Jungkook shows interest in certain members of BTS in a possibly confused and different way, but that is a whole other can of worms I will open another day.
UPDATE: I want to add something to this since today happened. Can we appreciate that not only all of the things in my post happened BUT Jungkook and Jimin released a song meant to be a duet between two lovers and they didn’t change the pronouns for Jimin’s lines? Pride Month for an ARMY is starting off beautifully.
Mr. Meyers considered her legacy. “She didn’t have the ego of Bruce Lee,” he said. “He didn’t feel justified unless he was a star. She didn’t need that. She left Hong Kong on her own terms. She was a pioneer unconcerned with her own stardom.”
May Joseph, a professor at Pratt Institute who wrote an essay about Ms. Mao as a feminist hero, encapsulated her influence this way: “She was a radical feminist cinematic presence before there was a language for that,” she wrote in an email. “She is the Lauren Bacall of kung fu.”
Ms. Mao, however, bristled at grandiose notions about her legacy; she was not interested in hearing that she had become the subject of feminist literature.
“This is not a gender situation,” she said with a baffled expression. “I just played myself. I am strong and I am powerful. That is how I became the most important female kung fu actress of my time.”
Kohei Horikoshi’s Interview with ESJ (Jump Festa 2017)
To you, what does it mean to be a hero?
Someone who gives you peace of mind. Someone who, when they arrive, makes you think that everything’s going to be all right. Someone you trust, someone who makes you feel safe. It’s not something that’s fully fleshed out in my mind just yet. It’s something that has multiple sides and is still changing. But I think the sense of making you feel safe, feel secure, is one of the most important things.
What did you learn from your previous serialisations in Shonen Jump that you’ve used in My Hero Academia?
The main thing was not to repeat mistakes I’ve made in the past. That’s somewhat of a negative way of using the lessons I’ve learned, but for example, if I felt off about something, I didn’t do it in My Hero Academia.
What is your weekly routine like?
I spend a lot of time on the storyboards. Sometimes up to six days. Then I spend about a day on the final art. Though it’s not like I use those six days all on the storyboards. It takes me a while before I can get the engine revving and say, “Let’s do this!”
Only one day for the final art?!
Yeah, it’s kind of unbelievable, isn’t it?
How does your editor help you?
At the beginning, I’ll talk about what kind of story I want to tell. At that point, he’ll bring up different suggestions, like what to do specifically and what kind of characters to introduce. He’ll help me come up with the framework. I couldn’t create a manga without his help, so he’s indispensable.
(Editor)- I should leave the room so he’ll tell you how he actually feels. (laughs)
No, no, no. That is how I really feel.
Did American comics or superhero movies influence My Hero Academia?
Yes, of course. Spider-Man is a huge influence - the fact that he’s a teenage hero. I’m influenced by a lot of those works.
Have you been watching all of the superhero movies?
Probably not all of them, but most of them.
I’ve heard good things about Dr. Strange.
Oh yeah! When does that come out? I’ll have to see it. I’ll make sure to watch it in theaters.
If you could draw a crossover with any American comic, which one would it be?
It would have to be Spider-Man. If I could.
You have an amazing collection of toys and figurines. Do you have a favourite?
Yes, the Hulk Buster figure. It’s huge and I love it.
Which of the characters in My Hero Academia is most like you and why?
I think it’s the main character, Midoriya. He’s actually pretty negative in his thinking, and that’s a lot like me. I can’t help but put myself into the character from time to time.
Bakugou is a pretty unusual hero-type. Is there anything that inspired creating a character like him as a good guy?
My previous series Omagatoki Zoo had a character that was like a prototype of Bakugou. He was fun to draw and pretty popular among the readers, so I realised I could make this type of character work. I reworked that character a bit for Bakugou. So that would be my inspiration.
Why did you make him a good guy?
I don’t really draw him as a good guy. I draw him as a big jerk, but I add in layers where he’s working really hard in his own way to be a hero. It’s rather complicated, even to me. “Why the heck is this guy a hero? What a jerk!” (laughs)
Were you surprised by his popularity?
Yes! I thought he would be hated at first. So seeing him so popular was a big surprise to me.
Which characters might be getting a bigger role in 2017?
Let’s see… Obviously, Deku will have a big role, but…
Is it the year of Mineta?
(laughs) That would be hilarious, Well, I don’t know if it will make it into 2017, but there’s a character named Shinsou who will have some interesting development.
How does it feel to come to an event like Jump Festa and interact with the fans?
All I did was stand up on the stage, so I’m not sure if it counts as interacting… but seeing that many fans come out made me so happy. Though, being on stage, I wanted to get off and run away as quickly as possible. (laughs)
When you were introduced and walked on through the flashy lights and smoke, did you think, “Now, this is a hero’s entrance!”?
