hermione granger and ronald weasley

Can I just talk about Ron Weasley for a second? Because I don’t talk about my boy enough.

He just doesn’t deserve the hate he gets. Like, at all.

Listen, he went from the lanky, scruffy eleven year old boy who happened to sit in Harry Potter’s compartment on their way to Hogwarts for the first time, to the slightly less lanky seventeen year old who went with Harry and Hermione to destroy Voldemort’s Horcruxes.

Yes, he left. But have you ever stopped to think about why? Ron Weasley, one of the most loyal people in the whole series, would not have just left because he was jealous of Harry and Hermione.

He left for a few reasons. The jealousy definitely played a part, but he also had more to lose than Harry and Hermione, and he knew that.

That, coupled with the fact that he literally had a piece of Voldemort’s soul around his neck is probably why he left. But, of course, “it’s because he was jealous of Hermione and Harry!”

Can we also talk about the fact that, at eleven years old, he was willing to sacrifice himself - thinking he was going to die, might I add - so that Harry could go on, and find the stone?

Or that he willingly walked into a forest full of giant spiders (something he was terrified of) to help Harry?

Or that he stood up, on a broken leg, and told someone he thought was a murderer that if he wanted to kill Harry, he would have to kill him first?

Or that he was the thing Harry would miss the most?

Or that he went with Harry and everyone to the Ministry of Magic to save Sirius, based on a dream that Harry had?

Or that he is incredibly insecure? Or that he would die for his family and friends? Or that Harry (and Hermione, of course) is emotionally dependent on him? Or that he’s actually incredibly intelligent, just not in the way that Hermione is?

No, apparently not.

Because people just want to portray him as a terrible friend/boyfriend/brother/son, when he’s the furthest thing from it.

In conclusion, Ron Weasley deserves better.

  • *Christmas at the Potters - it's not a big house, but of course, the Weasley-Grangers are invited as usual and this year, for the first time the Malfoys too - they are all sunken into separate conversations and sitting at the dinner table*
  • Harry: Remember that one time, where you stupefied me and broke my nose? It still doesn't feel quite the same!
  • Draco: You're exaggerating.
  • Harry: Or remember when I fell off my broom because of you? (he pulls off his jumper and lifts his shirt - Ginny and Hermione begin to watch) There, I still got a faint scar.
  • Draco: Hah, don't even get me started, Potter! That's what you call a scar? Remember the time when you hit me with Sectumsempra? (he unbuttons his shirt) See, you gave me plenty of them! (Ginny and Hermione, now staring with blushed cheeks)
  • Harry: (stands up and fumbles with his belt) Yeah? And do you remember the time...(everyone is staring)
  • Ron: Ugh, guys? What are you doing?
  • Ginny and Hermione: Shut up, Ron! Don't be such a drag!
