• Who worries about how they will look when they’re older: Christ, the both of them do. Kurt doesn’t want the hereditary Hummel male pattern baldness. Blaine’s afraid of getting too paunchy. They always reassure the other that they’re hot, though.
  • Who makes the mix tapes/cd’s: Blaine makes the emotional ones, Kurt makes the ones for roadtrips.
  • Clings to the other during scary movies: Kurt. Boy has exactly 0 chill about creepy shit.
  • Gets into the shower with the other randomly: Probably Blaine, but Kurt has his moments.
  • Flashes the other when they walk by after taking a shower alone: Kurt. He’s a fan of how Blaine instantly trips over whatever’s nearest, even if it’s just his own feet.
  • Initiates hand holding while the other is driving: Both of them, the sappy bastards.
  • Secretly tries to touch the other in naughty places during public/family events: Proooobably Kurt initiates, but Blaine plays along. It turns into a weird competition-based foreplay.
  • Asks weird questions in the middle of the night: Blaine consciously, Kurt if he’s half-asleep.
  • Asks “what are you thinking about?”:  Depends on who’s being more pensive.
  • Always has to be touching the other, (if either of them do):  Blaine’s more actively touchy-feely, but Kurt will hover close to Blaine if he’s in need of some personal contact.

A Noble Pursuit

An Op-Ed By Lady Eryn Holt

It is disheartening to read recent news articles as the ones that point out the glaring faults of a single caste. This “truth” is not mired in a single caste alone. Corruption and betrayal is not a disease that strikes only nobles but any and all castes, be it among the commoners, merchants and militant alike.

It is a disservice to point all fingers at the nobles as not all nobles are corrupt or petty. There are those among all our citizens, no matter their lot in life, who look toward the strengthening our of kingdom through noble works. After all, what does it truly mean to be noble? It is defined as having fine personal qualities or high morale principles and ideals, not just belonging to hereditary high social status.

By the first definition alone there are nobles among even the lowest in class within our society. These are the unsung heroes who often go overlooked and underappreciated. There are the same among the aristocratic class who often do the same without want or need for recognition as they only wish to do what is right for all.

I beseech those who are so focused on the negative traits in our society to turn their gaze to the positive and do what you can to aid those noble pursuits. Doing so can help to push our kingdom in the right direction. Some fights are best won by attrition rather than assault. To point fingers and make such broad statements can lead to innocent people being harmed simply because they were born in the wrong caste.

Let us not be the catalyst for another uprising when there are better ways to improve our society and those ways are by our own actions. Even the smallest whisper in the right ear can be a catalyst for change in the right direction. Be that whisper and lead the charge in change without negativity. Do it through positive action.

Lift your voices, but do so in a true noble pursuit. Do not mire yourself in the negativity. Let us show each other that there is a care for all life no matter our caste. Let us show those who chose violence that there is a better way to find resolution. Lift yourself into a positive light and lead by example as we all should.

Special Snowflakes

The joke is that the Schnee are unique in the world by the fact that, as far as their Semblance goes, none of them are unique from each other. They all bare the exact same, identical snowflake-emblem Glyph.

As of the ending of Volume 3, the Schnee Glyph is the only canonical hereditary Semblance in the world of Remnant. It might very well be the only one, period.

There is yet no explanation given for why it stands as an exception to the rule that all Semblances are unique to every individual. Neither do we know how long this hereditary Semblance has existed, though we can assume that Weiss Schnee’s grandfather had it, as the Glyph is used as the emblem of the Schnee Dust Company he founded.

One of the practical things this means is that everything Grandfather Schnee was able to learn about his Semblance, he was able to teach to his son. Papa Schnee didn’t have to experiment in order to discover the capability his father had already discovered, which allowed him to master those tricks more quickly and then conduct his own experiments to discover more new tricks, which he was then able to teach to his firstborn daughter. Winter in turn might have been able to discover tricks of her own, which she would teach to her baby sister, Weiss.

This is a tremendous advantage in a world where Semblances generally show more variation between family members, and thus new hunters are forced to rediscover the wheel every generation.

Of course, there are some in the FNDM who believe that Time Dilation and Summoning are so far removed from the effects of normal Glyphs that there could be an alternative explanation: If the Schnee Glyph is already weird by virtue of being hereditary, what if the actual power of the Schnee Semblance is to add the powers of other Semblances into itself?

Both Grandfather Schnee and Papa Schnee had wives, after all, and those wives might have had Semblances, or at least the potential for Semblances other than Glyphs. What if one could dilate time and the other could form copies of the Grimm from her Aura? Could Winter and Weiss be calling upon the gifts of their mother and grandmother? Could their own children gain new abilities, and their grandchildren? Will the whole world eventually become one big, overpowered Schnee family?

It’s an interesting theory, anyway.

  • Ahsoka:But why can't I have a cloak. I don't want a poncho.
  • Anakin:Sorry Snips, cloaks are only for Knights. And Masters. Ponchos are for the Padawans.
  • Ahsoka:But WHY????
  • Anakin:Obi-Wan needs his cloaks for dramatic entrances, OK? He's gone through six of them already. WE HAVE A SHORTAGE.

Geometry of brain’s outer surface correlates with genetic heritage

Researchers at the University of California, San Diego and the School of Medicine have found that the three-dimensional shape of the cerebral cortex - the wrinkled outer layer of the brain controlling many functions of thinking and sensation - strongly correlates with ancestral background. The study, published online July 9 in Current Biology, opens the door to more precise studies of brain anatomy going forward and could eventually lead to more personalized medicine approaches for diagnosing and treating brain diseases.

“If we can account for a large percentage of brain structure based on an individual’s genes, we’re in a better position to detect smaller variations in the brain that might be important in understanding disease or developmental issues,” said the study’s senior author Anders Dale, PhD, professor of radiology, neurosciences, psychiatry and cognitive science, and director of the Center for Translational Imaging and Precision Medicine at UC San Diego.

Relevant to that last post:

My family has some hereditary deafness in the left ear.

Not completely, but everyone in my family is pretty hard of hearing. thing is weird,

Even though I have lots of trouble hearing people talking to me a lot of the time,

I can eaves drop like a mother fucker without even trying.

I just hear people talking.

Papulopustular exanthema. Hereditary Syphilis.

Baby, 4 weeks old. 5 ½ lbs when admitted to the Foundling Asylum. Suffering from bronchitis and intestinal catarrh. Skin pale, wrinkled, thick, and covered in syphilitic eruption. Flaccid, partially degenerated epidermis. Died after 24 hours. Autopsy showed double lobular pneumonia and syphilitic osteochondritis at the epiphyses of the tibiae.

From Atlas of Syphilis and the Venereal Diseases, edited by L. Bolton Bangs, M.D., 1899.

When women who may not otherwise be able to afford treatment had advanced syphilis and got pregnant, physicians recommended that they were treated for at least the last six months of the pregnancy. Some of the first major public health initiatives having to do with venereal diseases were “mercy organizations” providing for the syphilis treatment of poor pregnant women, if they adhered to certain moral standards while being provided for. If they began treatment by the beginning of the second trimester, there was less than a 15% chance that the baby would be born syphilitic.

These days, mothers with HIV or AIDS on anti-retrovirals can get much the same benefit as the mothers with syphilis did back then: we don’t have a complete cure for the advanced disease, but we can still ensure that the majority of babies born to those infected are born without the disease themselves.

Hereditary Witchcraft: What It Means & What It Doesn’t

Hereditary Witchcraft Means:

  • You are taught witchcraft from at least one living member of your family.

Hereditary Witchcraft Does Not Mean:

  • You are more powerful than someone who is not hereditary
  • You are a better witch than someone who is not hereditary
  • You are somehow more important than someone who is not hereditary.
  • You do not need to study regularly
  • Everything will come easier for you, everyone has things that are not strong points.
  • You are a failure if you can’t learn something easily and someone who is non-hereditary can. Everyone has their strengths and weaknesses.
  • You are a particular religion. Hereditary witchcraft is not a religion, people can have any religion, even within one family.
  • You are somehow less important than someone who is nonhereditary.
