here's me viola

Representation matters: my six favourite black female fictional lawyers.

  • Clair Huxtable (The Cosby Show)
  • Maxine Shaw (Living Single)
  • Joan Clayton (Girlfriends)
  • Jessica Pearson (Suits)
  • Olivia Pope (Scandal)
  • Annalise Keating (How to Get Away With Murder)
the future is now ( prologue )

When Josie Grace and Violet Friar-Matthews did the one thing you’re never supposed to do (hit the button), they never expected to end up where they did. Now, with limited time to fix it, they have to get back to where they’re supposed to be. All without saying one word to their parents.

aka the twins meets world mini fic that literally no one asked for but, here it is regardless.

a/n: so, as you guys might now, my wonder best friend maggie ( @friarlucas ) and i have been basically creating a sequel show to girl meets world, titled twins meets world, staring riley and lucas’ twin daughters, josie grace and violet. this is my contribution to this lovely world that we’ve created. it’s silly, while also bringing you a lil bit of angst, because well, you gotta have a lil bit of that in there. enjoy!

“Does this thing even work?”

“It looks like a toy. Did you bring us here to admire a toy, Minkus?”

“It definitely doesn’t look like it works.”

“It is not a toy and it definitely works.” Zeeks sounds frustrated and on edge and Josie Grace briefly wonders how much sleep he’s gotten in the last week. All week he had been coming to school with deeper and deeper bags under his eyes, the weird, far off look on his face evident to all of them that he was in the middle of a major project.

“Have you tried it yet?” Violet asks, sounding seemingly unimpressed. She had been skeptical when Zeeks had called them victoriously about an hour ago, practically screaming about what he had managed to create. But now that they were standing here, she was beginning to think they were being pranked.

“No, I have not.” Zeeks looks between them, sighing at the cocked eyebrow adorning Violet’s features and the crinkle in Josie Grace’s forehead. “But I turned it on last night, was able to do everything but actually operate it.”

When I tell my daughter stories at night, inevitably, a few things happen. Number one, I use my imagination, I always start with life and then I build from there. And then the other thing that happens is she always says “Mommy… Can you put me in the story?” So, I’d like to thank Paul Lee, Shonda Rhimes, Betsy Beers, Bill D'Elia and Peter Nowalk, for thinking that a sexualized, messy, mysterious woman could be a 49 year old dark-skinned African American woman who looks like me. Viola Davis, SAG Awards 2015.

There is a story passed down through the generations, a story of two boys and two girls who came and freed a land with the help of a lion and who disappear, later, when everything had been shiny and bright.

They are a story.

It’s a lovely story, told by rabbits to their litters and horses to their foals. Even children are meant for mighty things, mothers tell their children as they drift away into sleep. And we must be faithful, like they were faithful, and wait.

The details are lost along the way.

There is just High King Peter and Queen Susan the Gentle and King Edmund and Queen Lucy.

Just distant names reminiscent of a golden time, of openness and freedom and joy, of war and struggle and victory. There are no faces to the names.

There never were those Kings and Queens, the Telmarines later say. They abandoned us, the angry later accuse (and there is such truth in the anger that the faithful cannot argue except in silence.) There are just names.

Not that Usopp awakening his Haki and sniping from across a country wasn’t cool, but this method sure would have saved him a lot of trouble, just saying.

(Also: Usopp would so use nose emojis and you know it)
