Hey tumblr so I need your help! My school always had one of those “Read Across America” maps with young adult novels or romances or whatever (evidently, I’m American) but I’ve never seen anything comparable for wlw. I’ve tried to rely on my memory and on other people’s recs but I’m only (exactly) halfway through. Any suggestions to fill in these missing states? I’ve tried to avoid stories that take place across multiple locations. Or offer more options for the ones I already have, the more the merrier.

I was scared of you. Being around you, it was like—you were everything I wasn’t supposed to want. You’re—no one told me about you. When I was growing up, it was always, ‘One day, when you meet a nice boy,’ or, ‘When you have a husband….’ No one ever told me that it might be different. That it would be okay to be different.

A ‘Mortals Meet Percabeth’ fic, with a twist!!
10k words

“Hey, Kelly?”

Kelly looked up from her biology textbook, blinking at her best friend Olivia, who was definitely not doing the chapter review questions they’d been assigned. “What?”

“Do you think there’s something weird about Percy Jackson?” Olivia asked.

Kelly followed her to gaze to where Percy was sitting at the back of the room, leaning back in his chair. He wasn’t doing the review questions, either - instead, he was staring into the fish tank behind his desk. Kelly couldn’t see his face, but his dark hair was ruffled up and he was wearing his AHS hoodie with ‘Jackson’ emblazoned across the back of it.

“What do you mean, weird?” she asked, turning back around to Olivia.

Olivia shrugged. “I mean, just… there’s something strange about him.”

Her lips formed into a frown as she pulled into Harry’s drive way. He was supposed to be at the studio. She hadn’t seen him in months, but she needed the rest of her clothes, she needed her stuff back. She walked towards the house, using the key she still had. The house was different. Dirty dishes laid in the kitchen, water bottles, beer cans, and trash were spread in the living room. She wanted to clean up after him, she did, but he didn’t deserve it. She makes her way up the stairs, pushing open the door to their formally shared room. The bed was a mess, sheets tossed everywhere. She rolled her eyes, tossing the suitcase on the bed and grabbing the clothes.

She zips the luggage, setting it on the ground. She couldn’t help it, she made the bed. It just seemed so messy and she couldn’t help it. She walks back downstairs, fumbling with her key chain trying to take off the house key. She frowns, hearing a car pull up. Harry practically jumped out seeing her car in the driveway. He runs inside and stops seeing her.

“Was just returning your key,” she says, “and grabbing the rest of my stuff.”

“I’ve missed you,” he says, his eyes soften seeing her face.

Her eyes are dull, no emotions in them. Her cheeks puffy and bags under her eyes, her usual well-kept hair is tossed in a messy ponytail. She doesn’t look good; she doesn’t look happy. He doesn’t look well either, stains on his shirt.

“You’ve gotta clean up in here,” is all she says, “or else you’ll get flies.”

“Y/N,” he whispered, “please.”

She closes her eyes, inhaling sharply, “you were supposed to be at the studio,” she says to him.

“I wasn’t feeling well,” he answered, “where are you staying?”

She had been couch surfing, staying at friend’s apartments. She hadn’t slept in a real bed in days and she couldn’t afford to buy an apartment on her own, the dorms at her school all filled up.

“Here and there,” she shrugs, “doesn’t matter.”

She starts to walk but he blocks the door way, “I’m sorry,” he says, “I was dumb, so fucking dumb.”

He breaks down again, falling in front of her. His arms wrapping around her legs, head resting on her stomach, “if you just gave me one more chance baby, I would never hurt you again,” he cried, “please.”

She closes her eyes, pulling his arms off and falling in front of him. Harry cups her face, pressing his forehead against hers, and she closes her eyes, her hands coming on top of his, “you hurt me, I can’t trust you,” she whispered, “I can’t.”

“Please,” he begged, “I promise I’ll be better, I promise. Fuck her, Kelly was-“

“Don’t say her name,” she pleaded, “please.”

“She was a fucking mistake, please y/n,” he begged, lips on her cheeks, kissing her cheeks, forehead, nose, lips, every part of her face.

“I love you,” he whispered.

She closes her eyes, her head resting on his shoulders, “shh,” she begs, “we can’t Harry.”

She lifts her head, looking at his pain filled eyes, “I’ll cancel my tour, stay here and work on my relationship with you, I’ll do anything.”

“Don’t do that,” she says, “just-just don’t see her.”

“I can do that.”

“This doesn’t mean we will get back together,” she says, “it means we will work on it.”

Harry nods frantically, “okay,” he agrees.

She sniffled, rubbing her nose, “I can’t sleep in the same room as you,” she says, “I still need some kind of space, we can’t pretend this didn’t happen. You want my trust? Work for it.”

“I will,” Harry says, “I promise.”

She nods, sitting on the ground next to him, their backs against the wall, legs extended as Harry looks at her, but she looks straight ahead, “I love you,” he whispered.

She doesn’t respond, she turns her head to look at him, her hand coming on top of his, “we can do this,” Harry says.

She squeezes his hand. Her head rest on his shoulder, “we have some work ahead of us,” she whispered.

“I love you,” he repeats.

“I love you too,” she says, her voice gentle and a tear falls from her eyes.
